It’s Hump Day and World Meteorological Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
My perfume today was chosen for madtowngirl's "perfumes that make me smell richer than I really am" project from Dealer's Choice edition 3, and I'm even wearing one of her examples: Chanel Bois des Iles.
Reminder: 3/25 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 6 (variation)...pick a project you liked from a past Dealer's Choice project, and do that project. You can find prior editions (and choose your project by looking through the comments) here....edition 1, edition 2, edition 3, edition 4 or edition 5.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Day three of Vacation week, and I’m in vintage Eau de Courrèges, bought at a flea market in Berlin in May 2016. (They have amazing flea markets: you could spend an entire Sunday just scouring them, and we have.) The scent starts off like a cologne, bright orange, minty greens, and airy florals, but soon reveals very un-cologney patchouli, oakmoss, and sandalwood. It all smells completely natural, not a synthetic in sight, and it’s still in perfect shape. One of the best blind buys I ever made.
The mail just arrived and in it was a batch of seeds I ordered. We’re moving to a new apartment next month after 18 years in this one, and for the first time in almost two decades I’ll have a balcony, and window boxes. Night-scented stock, forget-me-nots, dianthus, mignonette, nicotiana, four o’clocks, heliotrope, and more, every perfumed flower I thought might grow in this climate. I’m so happy.
Oh, what fun!! I love balcony gardening.
Good luck with your flower boxes! I used to have lavender and miniature roses in mine in Montréal. The bees loved the lavender.
Hey, moving twins here!! I’m leaving my apartment after something like 17 years… I’ve lost count. And I’m also making many plans for plants in the new place.
Good luck with the move!
Have fun with the seeds! I started using them 2 years ago and was so impressed with the results! I’ve got my zinnias and lavatera (performed so well last 2 years) and am trying out lupins and foxglove this year.
Good luck with your upcoming move!
Robin,
twins today in Box of Eels. So beautiful
Hey twin!! We do indeed smell beautiful.
I’m doing Elisa’s “Just Finish It” theme from edition 1 in Amouage Lyric Woman. I thunked the sample, but now I want more, which can’t have been the purpose of this CP!
Ha, I think not 🙂
Amouage Lyric is getting harder and harder to find at discounters. And Lyric is a fabulous perfume.
In L’Artisan Timbuktu for my perfume and a poem theme –
The Ache of Marriage
The ache of marriage:
thigh and tongue, beloved,
are heavy with it,
it throbs in the teeth
We look for communion
and are turned away, beloved,
each and each
It is leviathan and we
in its belly
looking for joy, some joy
not to be known outside it
two by two in the ark of
the ache of it.
– Denise Levertov
Wow, that is some poem. Thanks allo.
I love Denise Levertov’s poems. They’re so evocative.
I don’t get it. ??
I think she might be saying that marriage is complicated, not always satisfying in the ways we might have hoped it would be but that we are still in it together and difficulty isn’t always a bad thing.
I am wearing Estee Lauder Private Collection and drinking my second cup of Himalayan Spice Tea.
I’m on my second cup, which today is Fortnum & Mason Countess Grey.
Nice 🙂
You smell wonderful! Do you have a recent version or an older one?
Just out of curiosity, how many applications do you get from a sample?
Glad you asked this bc I’m curious about it too.
For me, I try to get 2-3 applications so that I can test it a few times. With .5ml samples, I will apply it to only one wrist so that it lasts for 2 applications. With larger samples (especially store freebies that I didn’t choose) I try to be heavier handed so that I can use it up.
I think I have to start wearing more per application.
I was going to wear Amouage Lyric today, but it’s supposed to be 27C, so I thought it might be a bit much. Wearing Memo Sintra instead.
Wow, jealous of your weather!
It is glorious! But we will be heading back to winter in a couple of weeks (in Canada). 😉
I read something you wrote on another forum (I’ll remember just after writing this). You have such a gift with words and analysis of material. After reading, I saw your name. Keep up the writing, please!
I can’t imagine that was me, but thanks. 🙂
Is Sintra really orange blossomy, or mainly other things? My lust for OB forward scents has not abated, since I missed buying a bottle of Dilletante before it disappeared!
It is definitely orange blossom on me. Where are you located? If you’re in the US or Canada I can send you some.
Oh, how kind! I am in Michigan. You can email me at my username in geemaylland. Or how can I be in touch?
Currently in Coco Mademoiselle edt and staying behind at home today. I have no idea on what I want to wear post shower today. Maybe Lyric or Epic today.
Enjoy your day off Dawn!
I so agree that Bois de Isle smells rich! I really want that one badly, but it is so pricey!
It is not cheap! But I just checked the price of the 15 ml parfum (what I have) and am shocked at the increase…it is now $280. I can’t remember what year I bought mine but pretty sure it was closer to $150.
In a rush to the office this morning, so I wore what I had in my work bag, a travel spray of Oliban.
Not sure what theme it would fit, maybe a recently acquired scent. I was on a quest for incense-y rose scents, and had to try this after seeing Katie Puckrik’s rave review on youtube. I do like it a lot, but it’s not “the” rose incense for me. Happy to have my travel spray!
Just Got It sounds like a great theme.
What have you tried so far? Mine are Taue4 Incense Rose and Olivier Durbano Pink Quartz. I’ve heard the Amouage is good too, but $$$$.
I’ve tried the Tauer one, Clinique’s Beyond Rose (Oliban is closest to this one), POAL, Calligraphy Rose. My wallet is too frightened to try the Amouage! ?
I think my favorite is probably Calligraphy Rose, it’s definitely the jammiest and sweetest of all of them. Love POAL too but I definitely have to be in a mood for it.
Yesterday, there was sad news on Facebook about a longtime member of the perfume community. Monica Hsiao died of maternal sepsis after giving birth to twins. Sadly, one of the twins also passed away. Monica lived in Taiwan and hosted SO many splits for perfume lovers, especially in the time before Facebook perfume groups started up and before NST split meets were a thing. These splits were done over email via a Google Scent Splirs group. She also posted here occasionally as womo531. She was kind and easygoing, though I didn’t know her well. I still have so many decants received from her.
So today I chose Le Labo Geranium 30, a limited edition from 2014 made for Opening Ceremony. It’s my favorite of the geranium perfumes I’ve tried, and I was only able to try it (only 100 bottles made!) because Monica split it.
I remember womo’s posts from when I was a new perfumista. And to die of maternal sepsis is this day and age is a tragedy.
Totally agree
That’s a lovely tribute. It is terribly sad to lose one of our own. I’m not sure if she was on MakeupAlley, but we all get connected.
I also can’t remember if she was on MUA.
Oh how awful. :-(. Such a sad loss.
Maternal sepsis- so so sad.
I’m so so sorry. That’s terribly sad.
What a shame.
This is sad news indeed. I have decant splits from her as well. She also split via Basenotes which was how I initially encountered her.
Ahh yes, I don’t check the Basenotes split forum often so forgot about that. She was a fantastic perfume supplier to perfume lovers.
Oh dear, I am so sorry. What a tragedy. Condolences to her family, that must be just devastating.
Another favorite poet of mine below. I’m wearing Au Dela Narcisse today.
Spring
BY GERARD MANLEY HOPKINS
“Nothing is so beautiful as Spring –
When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
Thrush’s eggs look little low heavens, and thrush
Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring
The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing;
The glassy peartree leaves and blooms, they brush
The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush
With richness; the racing lambs too have fair their fling.
What is all this juice and all this joy?
A strain of the earth’s sweet being in the beginning
In Eden garden. – Have, get, before it cloy,
Before it cloud, Christ, lord, and sour with sinning,
Innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy,
Most, O maid’s child, thy choice and worthy the winning.”
Well hi there scent twin!
Before it cloy!
I sometimes think I have aged out of poetry — I read so much of it when I was young and have less patience with it now — but really enjoy the occasional poem in the comments here. Thanks Deva.
I’m wearing Slowdive today.
It’s a beautifully honeyed scent, although I usually wear it in the evening as it makes me feel sleepy.
You smell fabulous.
Just a gorgeous scent!
I’m testing Goldfield & Banks Velvet Splendor today. Orange flower, mimosa, patchouli, and creamy wood notes.
Tea of the day is F&M Albion.
I love Velvet Splendour and never hear it mentioned. How are you liking it?
I loved the first couple of hours, but then the patchouli took over and I don’t love this phase nearly as much. I’d have preferred if the woody notes or the tonka had taken over instead.
Random sample is Ambre Eccentrico. Got the new job and will start in May, maybe a little earlier. Yay!
Congratulations!
Congrats!
Congratulations! ???
Big congrats!
Congratulations!
Congratulations on the new job!
Congratulations! ?✨
Congratulations!
Oh how lovely!! Go you.
It’s been damp and warm here in the last few days, March is a very unpredictable month, sometimes like late summer, other times like early winter. I’m thinking of 24 Faubourg, which I haven’t worn for a while.
24 Faubourg is so gorgeous.
Un Jardin Sur le Nil, from my project of “What’s on my desk”
Super juicy and fruity at the moment. So pretty and perfect for spring.
Yep. I need to buy some more.
I’m wearing Guerlain Angelique Noire today, which is surprisingly green and fruity, given its name and characterization as an amber/floral fragrance. Still, I smell great.
Oh, it’s supposed to be an amber…?
:-). On me, it gets closer to being amber-y in the dry down, but those first two hours are definitely fruity!
And vegetal, which I think must be due to the angelica.
You smell great!
Thanks!
I finally tested a sample i got 2 years ago, Dusita Splendiris. It turns much too sweet and powdery on my skin and reeks of violets, which i cant tolerate in larger doses. Ha, money saved.
Then we did 50km along the Neckar river by bike, with some gyros at a nice beer garden plus icecream some hours later. All in great sunny spring weather and not much people on the bikelanes. I will sleep great tonite, because i am really tired.
Tomorrow we will drive to Alsace to a restaurant with a Michelin star and have a great lunch there. Their business lunches are really. affordable, so we are looking forward to it!
Sounds like lots of fun!
What a great day!
I’ve had an Alsace dinner in NYC a while back. The dishes were not the most elegant looking but they were down home tasty and came in individual large portions!
All of that sounds so perfect! Hope you have a wonderful lunch.
Joining the Rich Lady perfume crowd, I am in Encens Mythique D’Orient, denying the unpalatable reality of workday life.
Such a gorgeous scent. 🙂
I love that one – it is very elegant and fascinating in an understated way. It’s in my top 20, even though I am more of an overstated perfume fan. 😀
I’ve been too busy this week to really scroll through past projects,so I’m just winging it…
Prerty sure there must have been a “No-brainer scent” somewhere,so I’m in Africology Gardenia parfum.Pretty straightforward effortless gardenia.Theatre-friendly and helped me through 18 theatre cases from 8:00-20:00…phew.Almost weekend!!
✌???
21:13 Wednesday Lillyjo!
XO
Lol! I still don’t know what time it is?
Lillyjo, J B is on something similar to military time. For example, 17:00 hours is 5pm. So subtract 12:00.
So what I want to know is do the clocks and watches use the military time or are they the same as my clock? I know this sounds laughable but hey… I don’t get out much.
They probably use the military time. I have a travel alarm clock that can be set either way. I keep it on the 12-hour system that we use. But it can be set as a 24-hour clock.
And having mentioned that, I should probably check the battery on that clock… ⏰
That’s a long day, no-brainer scents are sometimes the best! Enjoy your weekend!
Of course there was a no brainer project 🙂
Wanted to share that my sister’s follow up scan came back negative! ? She has an appointment w/ her oncologist in the next week and expect she will finally be able to remove the port.??
I am trying two more from the EL luxury line today: Paradise Moon and Infinite Sky. Paradise Moon is a sweet, fruity/floral leather and Infinite Sky is a spicy, woody vanilla. Both decent.
Yay!! So happy to hear this great news. I liked both of those EL’s. Not enough to buy, but they are pleasant.
Woo-hoo for your sister!
What great news that is!
That is great, happy news!
Wonderful news about your sister, w00t w00t w00t!
So thankful for She-ra Sister good news! I liked all those new EL’s. They are “real perfumes” to my nose, and definitely solid, as you say, decent, quality.
Oh, that’s terrific news! I’m so happy for both of you.
Great news!
Great news!
Fantastic, thanks for telling us!! So nice to hear some good news.
I am pre-anticipating Spring by wearing all my most flowery scents. Mon Precieux Nectar is by far my favorite now, largely because the sprayer quit and now I keep spilling it all over myself when I apply it! No need to spray generously , just slosh it around! Lol!
You smell great, I love MPN. Sent you an email!
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/UNq9gmY_Oz4
This was me trying to get some sleep last night.
RIP Madeleine Albright.
Cool, cloudy, grey and rainy. It’s March.
SOTD = went back to Au Dela Narcisse. It’s reminding me of something else and I can’t figure out what.
You smell wonderful!
Thank you!
You smell nice! And Madeleine Albright…I saw her at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library about 8 years back. She’s very petite.
Thanks! And lucky you, seeing Madeleine Albright in person. She was a tough, smart cookie!
We are weather twins.
I hope we both get to sleep well tonight.
Sending you some “Sleep well!” vibes!
Horrible time getting to sleep last night. Had to be up in the morning for a group I meet with weekly, so did that and ran a bunch of errands. All on a blustery, rainy day. Happy to be back home and pondering a nap.
Mon Guerlain Intense. From a split. Perfect for today.
Hope you got that nap LizzieB, and/or that you sleep much better tonight!
SOTA is another entry in the Mislaid Intentions theme I’m doing this week. I stumbled across the sample while looking for something else (Galop – never did find it), and remembered ordering Sel Marin several years ago specifically because it sounded interesting. I don’t remember giving it any significant wrist time until now, and while it is interesting … it reminds me a little of Iroaz, with the rose subtracted and some iodine added, and not one that I need to pursue more of. $$ saved. Tomorrow it’s Uncle Serge — either Bas de Soie or Rousse.
I like that theme, especially since I have a sample of Sel Marin sitting around. I was like you, I thought Sel sounded so interesting but then I never tested it.
I’m in a bit of a gourmand week. Monday and today have been Over the Chocolate Shop and yesterday was LPRN edt.
On Monday, I seriously oversprayed myself with OTCS and it stuck most of the day into the evening. I think that’s the trick with it!
That could be the ticket for OTCS!
As a resigned, yet circumspect, blind buyer of perfumes (“circumspect blind buyer?” a perfumista oxymoron?), after spritzing on Cruel Gardenia, I came up with a Dealer’s Choice theme of: The Bloggers Made Me Do It. Thank you, Undina: I smell wonderful!
Sounds more like you are making educated (perfume) guesses.
SOTD = DSH The Absinthe Drinker and PdM Oriana
WFH today and was able to spray to my heart’s content. 8 sprays of The Absinthe Drinker did not last much longer than the 4 spritzes I used on Monday. Still longing for it because the initial hour was glorious! Once this one have up the ghost, I wore PdM Oriana. Oriana smells like Love, by Kilian except, I just noticed today that there’s a somewhat off-putting soapy scent in the drydown. Money saved.
I am hoping to get my auction winnings tomorrow as I will be commuting to NYC on Friday and I would hate for the painting to be subjected to the elements if it were to be left outside!
Hope that picking up your auction goodies goes smoothly! ?
The drydown is a big decider for me. I can suffer through a not great opening but not a bad lingering drydown.
Oh what a grumpy day!
My theme was “wear a perfume that won’t make me more grumpy because I am wearing it”
I chose Angel Muse?
LOL — I like that theme! Sorry for the grumps though.
Ugh, a grumpy day! I can see how a lack of sleep could contribute to that. ?
