Friday scent of the day 3/18

Posted by Robin on 18 March 2022 202 Comments

Happy Friday and happy World Sleep Day! Birthdays: Charley Pride, Queen Latifah. Our community project for today: wear a green perfume (this is a repeat from 2014).

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm sticking with my choice from yesterday...Gobin Daudé Sève Exquise. I'd sort of forgotten how wonderful it is.

Reminder: 3/25 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 6 (variation)...pick a project you liked from a past Dealer's Choice project, and do that project. You can find prior editions (from which to choose your project, by looking through the comments) here....edition 1, edition 2, edition 3, edition 4 or edition 5.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy World Sleep Day! And wouldn’t you know it, I couldn’t fall asleep last night and woke early this morning, unable to fall back to sleep. The bright side is that this is my inaugural first post of the day on NST :)

And I’m in Eris Green Spell to help me wake up. Keemun tea with milk will also help.

Excellent choice for green! (Why was sleep so easy when I was younger and now it’s hard?)

I was almost proud of how easily and well I slept until I hit 50. Then it all went sideways. But…glad to say, that settled down, and my sleep is now much better. (My Fitbit generally gives me pretty high scores)

I slept so well until 35, then divorce stress and perimenopause sent me off the rails, never to recover.

I thought about wearing Jacomo Silences (i have a mini parfum) but one dot of it last night reminded me that I don’t wear that when I expect to be in close quarters (chiropractor and meeting this morning). So I went with Gucci Envy which is plenty green for me but a little easier on the nose.

    Good morning and TGIF!
Sotd is ELdO You or Someone Like You. Green and minty, perfect for warmer days which aren’t too far away.
Currently drinking coffee, from some Arabica beans that I got from a friend. Quite good but a little sour, I prefer my coffee less so.

Perfect choice! I just found a travel spray in my sample pile. I forgot I had it. I really like this one. The initial blast of Bergamot is lovely. And the mint lasts fairly long on me, and doesn’t go sour as some mints are inclined to do.

World sleep day, how ironic. I finally feel like I got a decent nights sleep last night. It’s taken my body all week to catch up with the godforsaken time change.
I’m in the queen of green, no. 19. Lol. I’m guessing I’ll have many twins today.
Got up, threw on some clothes and made a run downtown to grab my favorite chai to kick off my Friday. I hit all the green lights on my way. All 12 of them! That never happens! I think it’s going to be a good day.?

Mugler Aura EDT — preposterously, fluorescently green: I tamped it down a little with a smudge of the body lotion, which is darker and not as dramatic (since it’s based on the EDP). I bought this only last week and I’m crazy about it.

They’re both very green, but the EDT is brighter, fresher, and airier, the EDP more deep-dark-jungle. This is pretty usual with EDT vs. EDP: you normally get a lot more brilliant top notes in the former (and so the EDT doesn’t usually last as long on the skin). But they share a lot of the same notes, and they’re recognizably related: they’re cousins rather than siblings.

Wearing Silences for my green, perfect for a rainy spring day.
I mentioned yesterday that I’m missing my daughter, then she called last night to ask if I can come stay with her next week while her husband is out of town for work. Yay for being able to drive, and my old car is a diesel that gets 50+ miles per gallon. It’s only a 3 hour drive.

I’m in Atelier Jasmine Angelique, which has a big dose of Galbanum making it uber-green. Def my fave from the line.

I’ve also got DSH Absinthe Drinkers and Re-Assess on the way, both with the hay note I’ve been craving, as well as some other interesting green notes like fern and palmarosa.

My body did not get the memo on World Sleep Day. Woke up in the middle of the night, and when I finally got back to sleep, the alarm went off waaaaay too early to get me up for my 7 a.m. meeting.

Once I finally get a shower, I’ll be CP-compliant in CBIHP Memory of Kindness to start the day. And since that doesn’t tend to last long, I’ll switch over to a different kind of green for the afternoon — the lime in Eau de Gaga.

Put my contacts on today before choosing my perfume, so instead of the peaty, smokey fire I had yesterday with Winter Woods, I’m actually in a deep green dense forest with a babbling brook that has a bit of mist lifting off of this morning. There might be elves or pixies hiding around here… ?‍♂️

I too consider Chanel No. 19 the Queen, but….my bottle of Aliage literally fell off its shelf onto the carpet in my bedroom, so I took that as a sign. Both a newer formulation spray and a vintage splash from eBay. Neither of which is the powerhouse I remember from my early 20s. I had lotion, powder and spray back then. It was glorious. I think I’ll keep splashing today.

Springlike temps yesterday and now possible rain/snow expected today. Sounds like a good evening/afternoon for watching March Madness. My husband promised to make Sloppy Joe’s.

Must be spring because I am in the green tinted lilac of En Passant.

In random news–the other day dropping off some packages at a UPS mailbox type shop, the woman behind the counter exclaimed about my perfume. It reminded her of her mother and all sorts of things from her childhood. She looked South Asian and had an accent, but I didn’t want to break up her reverie by asking where she grew up, etc. She did say that her mother’s perfume was an oil. The perfume I was wearing was the amber incense bomb, Laudano Nero. Anyway, I had the pleasure of swinging by later with a decant for her, and another amber (an oud amber). I wish I could have been a fly on the wall as she opened the packet!

Anyway. In even more random news, this auction item came over the transom this morning. I have an ongoing search for a first edition by V. Sackville West, and you would not believe the stuff sent to me by the auction house as “related to [my] search!” I thought you’d enjoy it, and no, I am not bidding on it :-) https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/121830038_lalique-france-ondines-crystal-perfume-in-bottle

… from my travel spray set. Tomato leaf, galbanum, vetiver etc. In the whole scheme of things, it has fair longevity (5 sprays and I can now barely smell it 5 hours later). Beautiful fragrance!

My green of the day is Un Jardin en Mediterranee, which is a sibling to the Miller et Bertaux Green I wore yesterday. They’re quite similar but I still have bottles of both heh.

My boyfriend gets back from his work trip tonight woohoo! I plan to order pizza for dinner since it’ll reheat well for him when he gets home around 8:30 or so. I know I won’t be able to wait that long to eat dinner myself.

You inspired me to wear M&B green green, green this morning! And you smell lovely.

It didn’t last long, though, so now I’m in Salon dt from Angelos Créations Olfactives. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways….I found this perfumer on a FB forum, ordered a sample set, and then a full bottle. This is a beautiful scent without being overtly floral. Here’s the description from his website:
“Salon dt is a pun on Salon de Thé, using dt as a reference to my scientific background.
It is of course a creation based on several varieties of tea and other herbs infusions/ beverages.
It starts with a blast of Earl Grey tea with the addition of a red fruits blend and transforms into a floral and herbal delicacy with Osmanthus, Mimosa and Jasmine Absolutes along with 3 varieties of Chamomile and spiced up with Nutmeg. Finally dries down to a Fleur D Oranger and Muguet honeyed with Beeswax absolute, Sandalwood and Musky based hand cream.”
No affiliation, etc., just passing along some love for a new indie perfumer on the scene! ❤️

I just noticed that your photo is a trillium flower! I posted a photo on instagram of some blooming trillium I found on a hike last week. In California, our trillium have larger, more balloon-like “petals”. Tis the season. :-)

I didn’t know they grew in that climate. I first saw them blooming near a river when I was a teen and have loved them ever since. Years later, in my hometown in the Midwest, they used to have a trillium festival every spring. ?

SOTD is Orto Parisi Viride (thank you, yasmina, for the sample!) It is perfect for this early (alarmingly warm) spring day. Smells like a succulent in damp soil with a freshly snapped leaf so that you can smell the pulp. There is a touch of an indistinct floral note weaving in and out that sweetens the whole up thing notch. I like it quite a bit and am interested to try it against Bracken Man, since so many people see a similarity.

Drinking london fogs this morning. Hugs to everyone dealing with poor sleep and difficulty with the time change. I’m a night owl and can usually fall asleep by 1:30/2am, but this week its been 2:30/3am with the time change this week. I still have to get up at 8:45 tho, so I’m running on a deficit. Hopefully we’ll all be able to reset this weekend.

I have never been able to sleep late either. Probably a mixture of natural morning-person spirit, hatred of being late for things, and many years of working “banker’s hours.” Maybe once or twice a year, I wake up and have this certain relaxed feeling that lets me know I’ll drift back into some lovely extra winks. I never know why!

    Happy friday, dear NSTers!

I had full intentions of pulling out my precious No 19 extrait today. I’m pretty sure this is the first bottle of Chanel I bought myself, it was a treat for a milestone back in the early 2000s. And there’s quite a few drops left. BUT, the bottle is well taped now to prevent evaporation and since I’m moving soon, I didn’t want to mess with that. Instead I’m wearing Heure Exquise which I have mentioned is like a No 19 which works better on my skin.

    Happy Friday!

    1) SOTD: The Beauty Pie Mandarin Leaf scent- a woodsy citrus, actually. But a great perk me up on a cloudy day!

    2) I gave notice at the hardware store! My tech job now wants an IT presence at the downtown PDX location 2-3 times a week. So with commuting, I could not keep the second job, which sucks, because it was an easy (though tiring) extra $1200/month.

    3) Plum blossoms! Cherry Blossoms coming soon! And since I am no longer at the hardware store (well in two weeks) I can work in the garden and get transplants done.

But I noticed that my daily diet was going off the rails, my memory was getting foggy and my housekeeping fell behind. Turns out I do need that down time to do all those things that make my life worth living.

A sunny Saturday morning here, bur increasingly autumnal. I had a day off work yesterday, which was very relaxing. I had had plans for a week and a half off, going to visit my mother and then her visiting me. We cancelled that because of Omicron, but we’ll reschedule when the peak is past.
Pre-shower, I can still smell yesterday’s Après L’Ondée on my clothes, and I’m thinking of Green Spell for later. I think (hope) I still have a drop left in my sample.

I went with Chanel 19 EDT today. Quick run in the covet-inspiring loaner car (sigh) to pick my own car up, and then out to the light-bulb store to find replacements for two of our bathroom lights. I have to say that driving the loaner and my own car back-to-back helped me realize two things: one, the loaner wasn’t actually that much quieter than mine but it was definitely a way smoother ride; and two, my car (a small suv) doesn’t work as well for me as it used to. I’ll go back to a small sedan or coupe style car when it’s time to replace the suv.

Thanks to everyone for the kind and supportive comments yesterday about my surgery recovery. I truly appreciated it!

I’m wearing Zoologist again today, but it’s Elephant, which is a big honking blast of juicy green woody trees and leaves. I am still exploring this with my 2nd sample. When I first tried it (first sample) I thought it was an instant scrubber, but I kept it on and found myself coming to like it, especially once it mellowed after awhile (I guess into the coconut phase). At first it’s quite green and has some sort of piercingly strong note that I cannot identify. Is it the green Darjeeling tea? I don’t much like the opening. After an hour it’s more rounded with a floral/coconut addition to the green, and the base has both incense and patchouli, so it’s really quite nice, comforting almost. I suppose that is the more fun, communicative, and caring side of the big strong elephants.

Your description is very helpful – I must return to my sample. All I remember from a single test was the woody trees (wet peanut shells?) and that over-the-top tea. Elephant would be the second Zoologist after Sloth that won me over several tries after an initial “NO.”

I really like Elephant from what I remember from my sample, I’ve had a travel bottle on my buy list for a long time. Zoologist makes me a little nervous because they are so apt to redo their scents. I missed out on the original Dragonfly and still have buyer’s remorse, I should make a decision about Elephant sooner than later.

I love ‘green’ scents in spring, especially those with that galbanum punch, a favorite note for me. Today’s SOTD, Balmain Vent Vert (the 1991 version, perfumer Calice Becker), was a perfect scent for yesterday – it was 73 degrees, dry and sunny, the epitome of a beautiful spring day, little green shoots coming up everywhere, shrubs on the brink of budding. I love everything about this fragrance, and its delightful polka-dotted bow tie and jaunty tilted cap always bring a smile to my face even before I spray. I’m enjoying it but today it’s only in the 40’s with a cold rain destined to become heavier and colder into tomorrow and not a day I would normally wear this fragrance. It’s a day for a warm and comforting scent, so when this wears off I’ll probably switch to Dame’s Earth Mother, a favorite of mine for this kind of it’s-almost-spring-but-not-quite kind of day.

This afternoon I watched a livestream Zoom side-by-side concert with my favorite cellist here in Chicago and a singer-songwriter-poet-human rights activist in Ukraine to raise funds for humanitarian help. At first there were difficulties connecting due to the fact that she and her two band members were broadcasting from a bomb shelter in Lviv to block the sound of rockets flying above! She talked about her brother, who has a band quite famous in Ukraine and who lived in Kyiv. He, his wife and three children fled the city and his home and musical studio and all his instruments were completely destroyed. Currently homeless he is hoping they can all make it to Austria. Watching for a whole hour someone immersed in this tragedy rather than just the snippets of a news broadcast was even more heartbreaking, yet seeing so many people here uniting to help those suffering in Ukraine gives me hope as I pray for a miracle for peace.

And I’m really looking forward to brunch with my son and his family on Sunday at our favorite restaurant. Grandkids are in HS now and busy and I don’t see them as much anymore, so this will be a real treat. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead!

    ****Good News Update!****

Hello Perfume People! Just jumping on here to let those who are concerned about Glannys know that she, her mom, and her adorable cat have all made it out of Ukraine safely and are headed to Sweden. They are all safe (!) and as well as can be expected. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers ❤️

I had a very busy day off. I am finally sitting down while waiting for the laundry to be done. I started out wearing Aura today. I then sprayed No.19 Poudre late afternoon. I’m tired.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend ?

Oh and a thunk to Angelique Noire which I let my daughter use up today.

I tried out 19-69 Invisible Post for green SOTD. Notes listed as petitgrain, fig, tangerine, palm leaf, black currant, cyclamen, sandalwood, cedar, tonka. Starts out really green but by mid day I could just smell sandalwood.

Very few things stay green to the bitter end! But that sounds like an interesting scent?

Hi all, I’ve been reading and lurking but went shy for a while.
I’m in Guerlain’s Vetiver Pour Elle. It’s slowly whittling away down and there’s no point in hoarding what’s left!
    Stay well, everyone.

I’m wearing Pacifica Mediterranean Fig today which is sadly discontinued. I found an old roller ball hidden away and it actually smells better now.It has a softness it didn’t have before.
