Happy Fat Thursday! It's also World Bartender Day and National Toast Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Demeter Gingerale for Crackerbox Palace, 1976, admittedly not my favorite George Harrison song but the video always makes me smile.
Reminder: 2/25 is George Harrison's birthday. Tell us a favorite George Harrison or Beatles song and wear the fragrance that matches the song. (Adapted from a suggestion by Old Herbaceous. We did a similar project for John Lennon in 2020.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Bonus watch: the video for Crackerbox Palace, directed by Eric Idle of Monty Python. Read more in 45 years of George Harrison's song 'Crackerbox Palace' at Far Out.

Good morning.
Sotd is EL Pleasures Intense.
I just showered but am too lazy to blow dry my hair completely so now I am a little cold and I am huddled next to the heater with a mug of ginger spice latte.
One of the things I hate doing most.
I recently purchased one of those rapid dry hair wraps which do an OK job of absorbing the water out of hair but having lots of hair it still is more effort than I’d like.
I’ve often wondered if springing for a pricey Dyson makes long-term sense for those with very thick hair. I know I’d be tempted, because I get impatient during the 5 minutes it takes me….
Several years ago I went to a spa that had Dyson hair dryers in the locker room you could use if you gave the attendant your driver’s license and a credit card. I was miffed at first but understood why after using one!
I have one. I bought it a few years ago when my hair person used on one my hair. takes one minute or so to dry my hair.
Excellent on cleaning windowsills.
Went out to see friend for dinner. Was so cold along beach had puffy coat on.
SOTD post shower will be Chergui.
I’m in Chanel no 18 again. Just about ready to thunk the sample.
A week from today I am headed out of town for a 2 day conference. An actual in person conference! No Zoom! I am so excited. Plus a hotel room all to myself for one night. Heaven.☺️
Yesterday my husband told me that there was a piano out on a frozen lake near us, and sure enough there is.
https://youtu.be/smBT8jYo9FY
Hope someone brings it in before the ice starts to melt!
Yay for in-person conferences! Can you believe we’re doing all our events (what I do for a living) virtually this year? Ugh!!!
Love that piano. My husband also pointed out the ice sailing boats.
Safe travels on your upcoming trip & conference!
It might have a warped sounding board or be otherwise irretrievably damaged and someone is hoping to give it a watery final resting place…
I finished a decant of Five O’Clock Au Gingembre. Happily, I believe that I have a larger decant, still pretty much unused. Also the full bottles aren’t that expensive. yea!!
Yay for BUB 🙂
On this bitingly cold day, SL Fourreau Noir, a gorgeous warm complex black-licorice lavender thing. Every single time I wear it I think it’s my favourite Lutens, although I think that about most of his scents while I’m wearing them (see also: Chypre Rouge, Un Bois Vanille, Douce Amère…).
Smelling amazing!
You smell wonderful! I still laugh at one description of Fourreau Noir: lavender pancake syrup with hookah pipe. That sounds lovely to me. ?
Chypre Rouge and Douce Amere are two of my favorites, too!
Me too! ?
You smelled great today, and I feel the same way about having rotating favorites in the line.
65 degrees yesterday, 31 today – crazyland
SOTD: Synthetic Jungle; pretending that Spring is here
We had snow last night! Also pretending it’s spring, in Heeley Menthe Fraiche.
I just bought some shampoo that smells exactly like that. It makes my hair look like a broom, but it smells nice.
You smell so good and green! I love Synthetic Jungle.
SotD = Mon Precieux Nectar
Dabbed from a dwindling decant, I’ve worn it often, and the evaporating angel’s share sweetly scents my perfume cupboard.
I’ll pair this one with George’s Give Me Love. I love this perfume, and though it is sweet, it feels meditative to me.
Hope everyone enjoy’s this thankful Thursday.
You smell wonderful.
Loooooove! You smell amazing!
CP-compliant (and wearing one of the new vintage sample bottles I got): vintage Halston, for “All Those Years Ago.” It was my mom’s perfume, and she died not long after this song came out. She’d be happy today (she was a teacher and constantly pushing for us to get into the best school we could, given the circumstances of being in the military and in the middle of nowhere), because after a slew of private school rejections, Ockeghem Tween got into our first choice school, the public arts mini school. It was iffy as her second audition was nothing but sight reading, and she was nervous, and it didn’t go well. Apparently the band director already knew he was taking her, I guess.
I have to say thanks to Robin for this CP. I had never really dug into George’s post-Beatles stuff, other than the things you hear on the radio every so often. (I think “I’ve Got My Mind Set on You” put me off in high school, similar to “China Girl” putting me off Bowie in elementary school; both since reevaluated.) I listened to “All Things Must Pass” last night, and loved it.
Congratulations and what a relief for your daughter!
Great news.
Congratulations to your daughter!
Congrats to Ockeghem Tween! You must be so relieved!
I am so glad if anybody but me enjoyed it, and HUGE congrats to you both, that’s just wonderful.
Great news about your daughter! Congrats!
I’m smelling divine in Divine Divine. This weather makes no sense. Spring can not come soon enough. It must save me from my winter malaise.
Seriously, I feel like I cannot take many more days of this!! It was beautiful and in the 60s yesterday, which was lovely but makes today’s grey chill even more insulting.
Hi fragrant friends! I’ve been AWOL for a bit, dealing with some horrible sleep/health issues, but thanks to some chemical intervention I had an okay night last night and feel halfway chipper and functional today. I let Littles pick out my perfume — he voted for a rose, of which there are many, so we sniffed through a few and he chose Imogen Rose, which actually suited my perfume mood perfectly. It’s a well-aged solid that’s lost its baby-powder notes and just hugs the skin as a lovely warm, pink rose with soft edges and carnation undertones.
I hope you’re all doing well!
Glad your back and have been able to get some sleep!
*you’re*
Hi! Glad to hear you are sleeping better. Love the story of sniffing rose perfumes together.
So glad to see you back — was worried. Good to hear that you’re feeling somewhat better.
Welcome back! I was wondering how you were doing, and so glad to hear that you had a decent night last night! I hope things continue to improve.
So glad to hear you’re doing better. As a fellow sufferer you have my complete sympathies.
Glad to have you back!
Nice to see you back and glad you are getting some rest at last.
Yay for Good night sleep, I occasionally go for chemical when I have several bad sleep in a row. Good to see you back, I love how you picked your scent with your boy.
Glad you’re feeling better!
Glad your sleep is getting better. Your boy is a delight.
So glad to see you!
Relieved to see you posting today. I was getting rather concerned.
Adding my well wishes to the chorus. Glad to see you back and hope better times and nights of sleep are ahead.
My birthday morning.
Woke up to the news that Russia attacked Ukraine.
I can’t believe that in 21st century Putin decided to go on war.
I’m wearing my signature Prada Amber Pour Homme as I hope that Poland won’t be in danger soon…
Birthday? Congrats, and hopefully we all here in Europe stay safe..
Happy Birthday, but sorry it was marked by such human tragedy. I won’t say anymore because, ya know, rules. I hope you’re able to find a way to celebrate yourself today. As Walt Whitman wrote:
Song of Myself, 1 [I Celebrate myself]
Walt Whitman – 1819-1892
“I Celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.
I loafe and invite my soul,
I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass.
My tongue, every atom of my blood, form’d from this soil, this air,
Born here of parents born here from parents the same, and their parents the same…”
I SO wish my kid would be given this as a poem in her speech arts competition at school, but every year they turn the screws tighter and now they have to select their poems from a small handful: “Charge of the Light Brigade” (which all the boys will do, and have done in the past, even though they’re not supposed to repeat), “Caged Bird” (which we chose on our own in the past), Emily Dickinson (this year it is “Because I could not stop for death” but kid has done “I started early / took my dog” in the past), and Robert Frost “The Road Not Taken” (she did “Stopping by Woods” in Grade 2). I managed to sneak in some Mary Oliver in Grade 5. I love all these poets, but seriously, can they not come up with anyone else? E.g., Whitman?
They should be able to choose their own poem! It seems rather dictatory (not a real word but you know what I mean!) to not give them a choice. I mean, they could give “guidelines” but do they have to be so inflexible?
Dictatorial is a word. I think. 🙂
Happy birthday, hope you had a decent one despite the craziness!
Happy birthday all the same. Praying for a speedy end to the violence.
Happy Birthday dear friend! I’m so glad you posted here today as I am feeling the lack of your annual Chemist in the Bottle birthday post! I’ve been thinking of you and yours there in Poland, and am sending love and hopes and prayers that all will be well throughout this challenging time.
Happy Birthday!
I have been thinking of you.
Any Birthday bottles looking good this year?
Happy Birthday lucasai! I always appreciate your posts and join others in hoping for peace.
Happy Birthday. Let’s hope for more peace and less war.
Hapy birthday and the news about Ukraine is very worrying.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday, lucasai!
Let’s hope this barbarity won’t last long.
Happy birthday! Hoping Poland stays secure and Ukraine is resolved. I have been thinking a lot of Victoria at BdJ.
Putin’s midlife crisis is a little over the top.
Sorry to make a joke- war is horrible, pointless, senseless.
We must all do everything we can to put more love into the world, to counterbalance the anger and pain this action will generate.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Certainly a somber and worrying day. May your NEXT birthday be celebrated in peace and security.
Happy birthday dear Lucasai.I hope you stay safe and out of harms’ way!
Indeed you smell great!
XO’s
Happy birthday, and yeah, hoping there is concerted action taken to stop the obvious ambitions at play in Ukraine. (Also not saying more here, because…rules.)
Happy birthday Lucasai!
Happy birthday — and I too hope other countries don’t find themselves imperiled.
Happy Scented Birthday.
Hoping that Poland stays safe and calm.
Happy Birthday! I hope you
can peace and joy today.
Wearing SL Chene. Matching song by Harrison? “Something” (Beatles) works, I think. No direct connection – it’s just Chene and Something make feel in a similar way, relaxed and excited at the same time.
Link to Something – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UelDrZ1aFeY
And as a Ukrainian, thank you guys for your concern for us.
Praying for Ukrainians ?♥️
Absolutely. Lots of concern here in Canada. Many of us have links to Ukraine or Eastern Europe or Europe in general.
?❣️
There’s a sizeable Ukrainian community in the Philly metro area. Lots of folks worried about loved ones there. Hugs.
Annoyed to wake up to snow so I put on Miss Marissa Tropical to trick my brain into thinking I’m somewhere warm!
Wow, that’s one I have not heard of in ages! Hope it is warding off the gloom.
A quick one for now…
SOTD = Diptyque Kyoto
❤️
Question: Last week, someone here mentioned looking for non-current (but not vintage) No.5 EDT. Please raise your hand if you were that person. Thanks!
That was short!
What’s your take on Chris Rusak’s Timbre and/or Resonance? Resonance is supposed to be a combo of Timber and lo(loVE).
IG ?
I got an email from Saks today trying to temp me with that bottle!
Fingers crossed that you don’t get any freezing rain, sleet, or wintry mix overnight!
I went with Iris Prima this morning, just because. We have dustings of snow in our neighborhood, so I guess the February Tease that we nearly always get here is over. The roses and daffodils are confused, as usual.
Saw a fair number of early crocuses out yesterday, but so far in my yard, no confusion at all 🙂
Meet Me On The Corner, which definitely has a 60ies vibe for me, so i am at least in the Beatles timeframe. Had a mammogramm today, because i felt a small lump, but thankfully nothing to be seen. I will have to get a sonogramm again in three months, but for now i am happy.
Glad the lump turned out to innocuous. Hoping for the same same in three months when you have your u/s. ??
Glad to hear you’re okay. May all continue to be well.
Having been there in the past — and in the excellent German health care system — I am so glad everything turned out okay.
Yay for good mammogram results! ?
I have not matched anything to GH this week, loser that I am. However, I ‘m matching quite well with Fat Thursday and Toast Day, not so much Bartender Day. Partial points, maybe?
I took the easy way out and reapplied Ummagumma today because it’s so GOOD!
The “blizzard,” such as it was, has departed and we have a couple of inches of white on the ground, but that will soon disappear under the blasting sunshine and warming temps. Well, not that warm. The predicted high today is 36*…The most annoying thing about the weather has been the howling winds (literally rocking my van like a cradle) the past few days, but that thankfully, has traveled elsewhere.
Stay well, y’all!
We’re getting all of that up here in the Pacific NW, too. Crazy winds, cold, light blanket of snow.
Well, sorry to hear it traveled your way! ?❄️?
Philosophy Fresh Cream Soft Suede – cozy.
Finished reading Station Eleven, which I enjoyed. An easy, non-linear read. Sounds like the TV series deviated substantially from the book.
Moving on to Cold Enough for Snow by Jessica Au. And gathering tax stuff. Ugh.
I really enjoyed Cold Enough for Snow.
I heard the author of Station Eleven speak at our local library when it was the “one book for one community ” choice here. This was long before the pandemic and I have thought of her so many times during this plague.
I really liked “Station Eleven.” I read it in early 2015, just before we moved to Germany, and there was a temporary apartment we lived in there, in a giant, deserted block of “Hochhäuser” (high rise apartments) in August during 40C temperatures, that totally brought that whole feeling to life.
Today’s SOTD is Caron’s Aimez-Moi, to go with the early Beatles’ song Love Me Do! Tomorrow will be all about George Harrison.
?
You smell divine! Aimez-moi is gorgeous.
It really is! I have a decant and I’m enjoying it!
Nice pair!
Wearing Kilian Sweet Redemption and praying for the people of the Ukraine and the whole world. Such troubling times.
Praying with you.

Well, it’s alright, even if the sun don’t shine
Well, it’s alright….wearing a happy perfume (Ostara).
They look like they’re having so much fun 🙂
And they are so young!
I opened a box of decants the other day and came across Grossmith’s Shem-el-Nessim, which autocorrect wants to call Shem-el-Nessie. I will forever think of this as my Loch Ness scent. lol It is suitably opulent for a cold and sunny after a snowstorm Fat Tuesday.
Still pondering what to wear tomorrow…
You smell beautiful today. “Opulent” is a very fitting description of that one, too.
I have been wondering about this one for ages, almost to the point of blind buy! Does it smell as nice as they say? ?
It is really beautiful. I was happy to rediscover it in one of my decant boxes. It lasts for ages on my skin, too. Definitely worth a try. It reminds me of some of the Roja Doves.
Just had my avocado toast for toast day
Trying color pop shadow, I like it, but the flaking is a major booo!
SOTD Accento
I do love avocado toast.
Sotd is Fleur de Peau and joining tiffanie for George’s “Give Me Love” since Fleur de Peau means something akin to horny/frisky in French.
And also “Give Me Love” in the world right now.
That has NOT been covered in my Duolingo French course, after nearly two years of learning. 😀
Before I discovered the fragrance, I hadn’t heard the expression either.
A sunny and calm morning, which is a bit at odds with the craziness of the world. I’m wearing Le Galion’s La Rose, which I somehow overlooked wearing all summer.
Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere
You smell elegant.
Scent cousins today!
SOTD is Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka.
I put a strong scent hoping it would distract me, at least for a moment, from the shattering dread that climbed into my chest this morning and won’t go away.
To everyone struggling to cope with the news from Ukraine, you are not alone.
JM Myrrh & Tonka is an excellent choice for a comfort scent.
I ❤️ JM Myrrh and Tonka!
Troubling news from the east.
A sunny day, saw the first daffodils.
Baiser Volé essence de parfum during the day and went for even more vanilla this evening with I Profumi di Firenze Vaniglia del Madagascar.
Bois d’Iris Van Cleef & Arpels.Need I say more?
Beauty amidst the chaos.
XO’s
Off to bed in Byredo Flowerhead.Ben Gorham has my heart!I know Byredo does not get a ton of love, but this is one of MY brands!
???
Flowerhead is lovely!
Oooh, I have a sample of Flowerhead. Maybe tomorrow.
Sampling DSH Musk Futura which I sniffed and immediately thought it reminded me of some scent growing up. Turns out it was inspired by some scents from the 70s/80s. Nothing I need
Breath of God, for Awaiting on You All.
Spent the day glued to the news. We are now at a comedy show (with 1000 other people, mostly unmasked). We seriously considered ditching the show, given the events of the day. It has been good to laugh, but we are still heartsick.
Surreal.Comedy and war,in this day and age?Don’t we have enough to deal with already??
I wanted to get a decant thunked today so I’m in the remains of my old Ava Luxe Hong Kong Garden. I sure love this perfume, and it fits well with a cold, sunny day.
Ah, Ava Luxe. Sti licking myself for not buy more Wit before they sadly shut down!
I needed something very distracting today, yet not “me” so that I won’t care if any bad scent memories are formed! I’m sampling Baccarat Rouge and Oud Satin Mood. Very sweet and distracting for sure, hahahaha! It’s doing its job for today.
I’ve been pretty stressed out house hunting and putting in an offer for our first place. Lots of nervous energy! And today’s news is not helping.
Best wishes on your house hunt!
Good luck with the house hunting! Hang in there.
Best of luck with your house hunt! I loath buying & selling real estate.
I hope you get the house of your dreams!
An unsettling/troublesome Thursday, for sure. Ukraine is in my thoughts.
It was also “Cat Wrangling Day” for me. Sweet little Spooky kitty was scooped up and plopped in the cat carrier for her trip to the vet. She’s lost some weight since last year, which is troubling since she’s so skinny as it is. At least the weather held off on the sleet until the trip back from the vet.
SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’eau EdT. Needed a comfort scent that also had “Get ‘er done!” vibes.
Hope Spooky kitty is doing ok.
Spooky has a chronic health situation (suspected IBS and GI issues) that I’m trying to manage. Hopefully we get some answers with the bloodwork…
Good thing you didn’t have to drive much in the sleet!
And wouldn’t you know it, the sleet stopped about 10 minutes after I got home. But it might come back later on tonight.
Not planning on going anywhere tomorrow!
You smell great and I hope Spooky’s reports come out good.
Thank you! The vet said that she should have results on Monday. For now, I am going to try and get her to eat a little more wet food.
Hope your Spooky is doing ok. Waiting is the hardest part.
Casmir today for a very cold day. Lots of sleet. I will have to go in to work tomorrow since main roads will probably be OK. Luckily, my husband is a teacher and so he’s going to be home because the schools will still be out and so he can let the dogs stay in and be warm and cozy. Our next house is going to have a doggie door so they can go in and out at will.
I was just thinking about you today as I still have a voucher for a UA flight(s) which I got from the cancelled trip to your part of the U.S.
The state of the world is frightening. Here in my part of the US, it’s also cold and snowing like crazy right now. I keep thinking that maybe this will be the last snowstorm of the winter, that would be great.
Sotd is Scorpio Rising, I am really enjoying it’s dry, dusty spiciness. It doesn’t seem to go well with Something, today’s George Harrison earworm.
I was thinking the same thing about tonight’s advisory. Maybe it will be the last one. It seems like next week might be mostly dry. You’ve been getting hit pretty hard this year weather-wise it seems.
Yes, it’s been the worst winter since 2016, I think. Next week is looking dry and maybe even sunny! Above freezing! I’ll take it ?
Also have advisories for winter-like weather in my area. But February has been absurdly warm for my area. Not sure I like that.
Warm days in winter freak me out a little. I want my winter weather during winter, not in April.
Exactly! I much prefer an early winter to a late spring.
I went with Prada Candy Night for my sotd. I had a couple of meetings today, and wanted something sweet and simple.
Something sweet and comforting sounds just right. Hope the meetings went well!
Bleah, meetings. Hope that things went well, or at least weren’t too bad.
It’s been a dispiriting week, for many, many reasons… After a damp and chilly walk — I felt I had to get out of the house, no matter what — in late afternoon, I came back to soak for a while in a nice hot bath. In jammies now, with a small glass of wine to keep me company, I’ll read today’s posts. I found a few Ex Nihilo samples from Lucky Scent, which I’ve been trying out. (At least the samples vials from LS are ones that I can open and use; don’t get me started on complaining about the Ex Nihilo manufacturer samples!) I have on Devil Tender right now, a soft powdery rose with a bit of a sweet Turkish delight vibe. I can smell the cedar in this, but it behaves itself and remains cedarish. (Weirdly, cedar seems to transform itself into hay for me in scents like Arielle Shoshana Friday, blocki For Walks, and Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur. Wonky nose…)
A hot bath and Jammies sounds wonderful. I talked myself out of taking a second hot shower tonight, but I will make some hot chocolate.
Lucky you, getting hay with cedar notes. Most of the time for me, if there’s cedar in something I reek of giant hamster cage.
There’s always worse…
19-69 Purple Haze, and just now Classic Patchouli Balmy.
I can sniff upon initial, so I keep pumping!
My heart goes out to everyone reeling from the pain of last night and the uncertainty of what is to come.
Arrived back home at 3:30 am after a marathon flight home starting yesterday (with 2 pit-stops and plane delays due to parts issues). Despite everything I’m very glad to be home. Especially now, given the state of the world!
I wore Iris Silver Mist paired with C&E Iris lotion to grocery shop today. Wishing everyone a good evening!
