It's Almost-Friday plus Random Acts of Kindness Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am commando at the moment for a mid-morning appointment, but my plan for later is to test Eris Parfums Scorpio Rising.
Reminder: on 2/18, we're doing Testing, testing, 1 2 3. Wear a perfume (or more than one) that you have never worn before, and tell us about it. (This is almost certainly a repeat.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I Profumi di Fierenze Sandalo Misore. What I love most about it is that it isn’t smooth *at all*: every step of the way there’s something jagged or jangly or discordant, from the citrus up top to the spices in the heart to the wood, so much sandalwood. There’s always something unsettled about it. It keeps you on your toes.
Sounds great!
Good morning.
Sotd is MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold. A warm cozy vanilla.
Woke up today with this sense of dread and stress. Don’t know what’s causing it and I hope it will go away soon. ?
Drinking sleepy time tea with lavender to de-stress.
Hope your day gets better. That feeling of impending doom is unsettling.
I feel better now. Yay! Thank you.
I hope the tea is helping!
I think it helped!
Hope it goes away soon! ??
It went! Hopefully real far away too.
I hope these feelings calm down
Deep breaths
I think my zen is back. The day is looking brighter 😀
Yay!
Hope you can whistle away the dread soon. Big hug!
Thank you. Hugs! ?
Sorry to hear that your day had such a rough start. But glad to hear that it did improve.
Orris Tattoo for me today, planning to meet up with a perfume friend for lunch.
You smell wonderful! Enjoy your lunch!
Love your SOTD!
Twins…I am in Orris Tatoo today as well! I love that scent.
That sounds like a great day in the making! Enjoy!
It was fun! Then we raided the perfume closet. 🙂
I’m wearing 4160 Tuesdays A Walk in the Forest. It’s very cedar forward, so not for me. A CP point however, since it is from an unsniffed sample I got a few months ago.
I am your house twin today
Superstition No 13, from a sample i got from 4160 Tuesdays. This was made for 13th Floor Fragrance, of whom i never heard before. Its a vanilla amber with some citrus and a tad of incense. I am not very much into amber fragrances, but its very wearable in colder weather. I had hoped to smell a bit more oakmoss from the notes, but i dont notice it.
I have never heard of them either, but I do like the name!
Happy Almost-Friday, everyone!
SOTD is Chanel No5 l’Eau ?
I’ll try to find some interesting tester in my stash for tomorrow!
No.5 L’Eau is one of my favorites from Chanel!
Smelling very good today!
One of my favorites!
Not cp compliant as I’m in some vintage Lauren. I think of SmokeyToes when I wear this one.
Yesterday I wore 4160 Tuesdays Captured by Candlelight from a sample. I got a bit of fruit, almost citrussey up top then some sweetness and slight woods. It didn’t last too long on me and moved along fairly quickly. Someone mentioned that spraying on clothes may help with longevity.
On Tuesday, I wore Dame Singularity and Soliflore Mimosa courtesy of PL67. Wow, those had some power in them. Will test again in cooler weather. I wouldn’t hesitate purchasing from this line.
I recently ordered a sample set from Dame for $48 and the $48 can be used towards a FB! Definitely perfumath free. I do already have several of the samples.
That is literally perfumath free™️! Any front-runners yet?
I haven’t received it yet. I bet I’ll have a few packages tomorrow.
I hope you can report back with any winners! That sample set seems like the way to go.
I’m looking forward to when all of the samples will be back on the Dame Perfumery’s website! I’ve been interested in some of the soliflores, based on comments made here.
Yes! I think there’s probably a few winners!
Broke into the sample set from Memo that has been kicking around since a days-gone-by Sniffapalooza. Italian Leather. Early stages, so it’s still strong on the tomato leaf.
Did I mention I went to see Moonfall? Worth the discount $5 ticket. Ridiculous, but entertaining, and I quite enjoyed the last half hour with all its nutty “science” to explain what was happening. Emmerich has a formula, by gosh, and he’s sticking to it – no matter the results. It’s fairly amusing he complains Marvel has made it hard to do anything original (not based on comics), because I’d argue he’s been doing the same formula for years himself. That being said, I did have a good time and realized partway through the movie that popcorn was necessary, so I had to make a quick run to the concession stand.
I quite like this scent. Will keep spritzing and huffing throughout the day.
Wow, some of the reviews of Moonfall are downright funny! Glad it was enjoyable.
Just saw a snippet on the news about wordle and the changes that seem to have people up in arms since the NYT bought it. Apparently, they will not be using “obscure and/or offensive words” in the daily puzzle. People are now complaining it too easy and dumbed down. Maybe that’s why I got it yesterday. Can you EVER make people happy?
I’m wearing CSP Vanilla Cafe on a sunny but chilly day. Off to play wordle! Will look for something to complain about. ?
That’s funny Deva. I read an article that said since the NYT took over Wordle that the words selected were too hard. Monday’s word was difficult. Now today’s word seemed much simpler. You would be right-there are always people who need to complain about something.
I, too, hers the opposite. That it had gotten harder. Not sure there are enough data points either way…. I still enjoy it, although my husband ruined it for me yesterday by revealing the word before I’d tried it. Thus, I now have a first try win…
When the NYT took it over, people had bookmarked the old “page” and were continuing to do it on that site. The NYT Wordle site is a completely different website. I think there was a lot of confusion right after the takeover…so I can see some people having missed opinions.
Mixed *
What are the proportions of vanilla and coffee in CSP Vanilla Cafe? Mighty curious – or maybe I just want a fancy coffee!
I was wondering that too Annie.
My Vanille Café is fairly ancient, and I couldn’t say what they’ve done to it in the interim, but it’s very heavy on the creamy coffee at the beginning and mostly vanilla a few hours in. It’s really lovely.
I bought mine last year and I’d say you’re description still rings true.
Not sure either way concerning wordle . I haven’t noticed. Sometimes we get thrown by American spelling though: Humor, Favor etc.
It’s all so subjective isn’t it? I used the word “abattoir” in a poem for a creative writing class and the lit prof had never heard of it before. He was obviously well educated being a English Lit and creative writing prof, so it’s all the luck of the draw sometimes I think. What’s common and generally well known in one area of the world may be quite rare in another part. ??♀️
You cannot make everybody happy.
The day I don’t get the word, I will curse the NYT, I’m sure.
Ha! I think some people WERE cursing the NYT because a husband/wife did wordle separately one day and they both got the word, but it was two different words! This according to that same snippet I saw. They were up in arms (in a joking way) because there is only supposed to be ONE right word. ??♀️
Sticking with the CP today by continuing through the stash of M. Micallef sample bags that have been kicking around my drawer for forever. Today’s is Jewel for Her. My initial thought was that it’s trying for a classic 80s scent feel but is missing…something? I can’t put my finger on what. It’s big but not particularly distinctive, I guess. And into the drydown I’m starting to suspect that it’s headed to bug spray territory.
Clearly I’m not overwhelmed. It’s…okay, at least if it doesn’t take a bug spray turn. I should just get rid of those samples, since I haven’t liked any of them and they remind me of a particularly bad perfume shopping experience, anyway.
Indeed, don’t put yourself through a grim task of trying them all.
2nd that!
Some houses just don’t click with a person’s chemistry.
Life is too short to waste on crappy samples with bad juju.
Taking a CP point today in Dusita Erawan. My testing notes would read: sweet hay. It’s nice, and it’s different from most of my collection, but I’m not overwhelmed.
Gearing up for a “curriculum review of resources” meeting, which is code for addressing cries for increased censorship. As a literature teacher, I’m not exactly looking forward to it.
Oh no! Good luck with that. These censorship things are so ridiculous. My mom as a librarian went through some of that way back in the 1970s or so. I believe there were cries back then to remove Nancy Drew mysteries from the shelves (because feminists objected to them as showing her as too dependent on male help!).
Just before I retired as a school librarian there was a group that wanted to ban Berenstain Bears.
It’s Freedom to Read week! Public libraries apparently by far have the most challenges. While it’s a serious issue, it still make me smile that there was an attempt to ban Beatrix Potter on classist terms, due to the depiction of bourgeois bunnies.
I’m sorry because I’m sure it matters to somebody, but bourgeois bunnies gave me a really good laugh.
I just can not believe how the censorship of literature is a THING in 2022! ??♀️
Good luck with your meeting. Nightmare!
Sending you much support for your meeting! As a librarian who thankfully does not have to deal with such things, I’m sending you all my mental strength.
Fellow teacher sending you a pile of patience and good juju! It’s almost surreal, isn’t it?
Hope that your meeting today wasn’t horribly tedious and irritating.
Snoozily continuing with the decant of Fève Délicieuse. Will whip out my only new item in the house tomorrow, a Yves Rocher sample. Suspect there will be quite a contrast…
Ha, likely you are right. Put a little dab on the back of your pinky, and wear what you like elsewhere 😉
Robin, before I even read NST todays scent was Scorpio Rising. I got a sample from Luckyscent and it came yesterday. It’s a super blast of cinnamon right now. Like CINNAMON!! I’m hoping it calms down and gets a little more interesting.
I got 1/2 doz samples and am eager to try them out. I bought another sample of Baccarat Rouge. I’m really wavering on this. I hate that it’s so popular, but it’s the rare scent my hubby seems to love. Maybe if HE bought me a small bottle? ?
This has me craving SL Rousse. Why did I not snag a bottle when it was still readily available? It’s an oddball that I love for some reason.
And so now I have to admit that the day got away from me after my appointment this morning…I was not ready to put on fragrance until 2 pm and then it’s too late to try something I might not want to wear. So NO points for me today in Brin de Reglisse.
BR 540 won’t be popular forever. As an example, a lot fewer people are talking about Santal 33 now. And it was *the* hot perfume a couple of years ago.
I am in Mojave Ghost
Getting ready for zoom..Westman Atelier eyeshadow pods & creme highlighter
Going to try to get outside today…its like spring!
I have heard Mohave Ghost smells like Marc Jacobs Daisy. If that is true, then I will stick with Daisy as it is much cheaper.
I haven’t tried Daisy…
From comments on other sights it seems that MG smells less fruity and more mature than Daisy
I join you in nectar highlighter
how do you like the eyepods?
I have the les jours..and there is another one for evening which I don’t have.
they are smooth and bendable. Obviously being like a “balm” there is zero flaking.
I use the chocolat as an eyeliner
What do you think of this makeup line?
I like the foundation sticks a lot and the highlight sticks.
Baby cheeks too
Hope you manage an outing after your Zoom. Enjoy the weather.
I’m in the ‘not for the faint-hearted’ va-va-vhoom of Coco body lotion topped off with extrait concentration of Bal A Versailles. One of many benefits of working from home in one’s own office. I feel like a human room scent!
I would like to be in your room. So good.
Now if I could just press myself into a bit of cardboard, shaped like a kitten or Christmas tree, you could hang me from some curtain rod or drawer pull, for months of radiating scent. 🙂
I would hang you from my car mirror any day!
Taking cp points for Iris Empire from the Carolina Herrera. People seem to love this one . I’m getting a synthetic note right from first whiff. I smell this note in so many perfumes and it ruins them for me. Has anyone tried this one? Is it a synthetic oud note? Anyway, I read several rave reviews about this scent. I smell scratchy synthetic woods and vanilla; No iris.
hello Petunia! you are smelling great
Thank you LTSG!
Ugh, thanks, will scratch that one right off my list.
IMO, you’re not missing much.
When did those annoying woody notes get so prominent?
I truly like woody notes in perfume. There is some widely used synthetic note that smells like scratchy burning woods to me. Could be synthetic oud? Iris Empire is part of the CH collection which was released primarily in the Middle East. The line was made for that market.
This collection probably won’t work for me since I have a hard time with that pervasive note.
I enjoy some woods, but others are the smell equivalent of loud static on the radio.
Another chilly gray morning, and I am urging spring to come soon, wearing Jour d’Hermes. Nothing urgent on the agenda, so reading and a walk today.
House twins today 🙂 You smell fabulous.
Me three 🙂
No CP points for me – I enjoyed last week’s CP so much, I’m still doing that. Today is Boyfriend Dry Oil on one arm and Jacomo Art Collection #02 on the other. They’re so nice together although I don’t know how to articulate why exactly. Both are soft skin scents and perfect for my day on the go.
I say since the combo is a new scent profile, you are sampling!
;D
No points for me, I’m wearing my much loved Neroli Outrenoir.
And smelling mighty fine!
Hermes Rose Ikebana. Absolute love. It reminds me of Kelly Caleche EdT, minus the leather and grapefruit. Not a complaint! It’s nice to have them both. Rose Ikebana is for anytime, and Kelly Caleche I love the most at the beginning of fall when things are just getting crisp.
Yes, and it layers nicely with many other Hermes, including KC.
Oooo I am going to try that. Bet it is gorgeous.
SOTD is EL Infinite Sky second day in a row. very lovely, easy to wear year round. I would like a body lotion to go with it.
Dentist appointment this afternoon. California law is even contractors get sick time, so I am using it this afternoon before my last day tomorrow.
Hope the dentist knows it is random acts of kindness day and goes easy on you!
It’s been an interesting week here. After 22 months of zero Covid cases it’s finally reached us, and this has coincided with the return of university students – some of whom are participating in large street parties as part of the start of the year. They have to be double vaccinated to attend university but the party atmosphere ( and attitude toward testing and isolating) hasn’t gone down well with the rest of the community who are doing their bit not to stress the hospital. The town is about 95% double vaxed. . Meanwhile anti mandate protesters have set up in the middle of town with placards about poisoning children with vaccinations. So, a strange atmosphere over the neighbourhood as people adjust.. Anyway, a beautiful morning and I will go to the park later for a walk to check out the maples. Wearing By the Fireplace, a caramel sugary wood smoke.
Probably need to add that university itself will be online for a while so no filled lecture theatres.
Sorry for the upheaval, there and elsewhere. My local area is so quiet, no real upheaval from either side of the divide, and the case load has remained pretty low despite not getting anywhere near 95%.
You smell wonderful.
As I feared, I jinxed our home repair project yesterday — more dry rot discovered. Apparently it’s fixable, but it means more days with plywood where the new back door is supposed to go. Am wearing Cuir Ottoman for comfort, and hiding out at the other end of the house. This too shall pass … someday. ?
It will pass! And your house will look great
Indeed — and continue standing! Our contractor told us another 5 years and important things would have started collapsing. Eek.
Yikes.
At least you smell great
Thx! ?
ARGH! Sorry to hear about the home improvement jinx.
I know. I’m officially keeping my mouth shut going forward! ?
Sorry about your bad news but you smell wonderful!
Thanks Petunia!
I’m in Bee while satay my surgeon’s office for my two-week checkup. I’m doing pretty well today after a day of screaming pain yesterday. I don’t know why. I’ve sampled Bee before but never really worn it, so I’m sort of with the CP. Unfortunately I’m masked and can’t smell anything.
waiting in my surgeon’s office
Ugh, sorry you were in so much pain yesterday. I hope it was just an outlier and that your surgeon give you a good report.
Hope that you got some good news at that checkup!
Hope your check up went well!
Testing Roja Dove Elysium. It’s bright and citrussy but not really my style
I think the brand in general is not my style.
I like 51 parfum but haven’t tested much of this line. Those that I’m most interested to try are ridiculously expensive. Why bother since I wouldn’t pay the price?
We had a big snowstorm last night, and it’s still coming down today. I was craving something warm and cozy so I went with Jubilation XXV. It’s doing the trick beautifully.
Ugh on the big snowstorm, but you smell fantastic. That is the Amouage I would most like to own (although really maybe 2nd if I could still get some of the original formula of Ubar).
I’m back in Fragonard today. The sample said “Eau de Toilette”, which isn’t listed on Fragrantica or Basenotes, but it is on the Fragonard website. It’s very pretty, a floral that start out smelling green, but the amber base kicks in after a bit. Nice!
I’ve been dusting and tidying, getting the house spiffed in preparation for the hubster having shoulder replacement a week from today. It really has snuck up on me. ?
I had to think that through — probably you figured after his surgery you couldn’t clean for awhile? And probably from that question you can guess my housekeeping skills are not as robust as yours, ha?
Anyway, good luck to him and to you as his caretaker!
It’s the former. The first few days he’s home will be busy for me, and walkways need to be completely clear for him (read: pick up the dog toys).
But no, I definitely don’t have very good housekeeping skills! I’m a master at low lighting to hide the dust.
🙂
Best wishes for your husband’s surgery!
Thanks Jalapeno!
Good luck to the hubby!
Was there a name to the sample besides Eau De Toilette?
No, I kept rolling the decant, with the sunlight behind it, expecting to see something else! The name is Eau de Toilette. ??♀️
Wishing your hubby good luck!
Thank you, Gail!
Hope all goes well for your husband’s surgery, and wishing extra energy for you as his temporary caretaker!
Thank you, ringthing! I’m sure I’ll need some extra energy next week.
Doing the CP today by testing By Kilian Love the Way You Taste, which was a limited edition from 2018, I believe, that’s based on a mojito. It’s not my thing at all as I get the minty freshness paired with a traditional fresh masculine designer perfume but lots of people on Fragrantica seem to really like it. I didn’t have high hopes since I don’t really enjoy mint in perfume, so I only sprayed my arms. It’s not overbearing under my thick long sleeved shirt. I’ve got another untested green perfume on deck for tomorrow so hoping for better results.
Yesterday and Tuesday I wore a couple comfort scents, Shalimar MVP and Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka.
So far, have never found a great mojito fragrance, which is a shame! “Traditional fresh masculine designer” makes me shudder.
Shuddering with you!
Same re the shuddering, Robin. Luckily, it doesn’t give me a headache and wears close to the skin so I can basically ignore it under my shirt.
Adding some gagging to the shudders!
?
Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant?
Day 2 of drywall repairs. The items we missed on the initial walk through were pointed out to the contractor, who took care of them as well as the second application of drywall compound to Monday’s patches. Spooky kitty was once again nonchalant about having a strange person in her environs. Teflon was less skittish than she was on Monday, but still not thrilled by it all.
It was warm enough here today that I turned off the heat this morning, and have had a screen door to the patio open for fresh air! Crazy weather for February in NJ! ???????
SOTD = Diptyque Fleur de Peau, from the Sample Stash and an NSTer noted for their generosity. This has incredible tenacity on me. I’d bet that it will still be around tomorrow morning.
I was shocked when I looked at the temps and saw that it was 70F! In February! Unheard of!
And you smell good for sure!
Thank you!
I’m thinking I may leave the heat off overnight, since it is supposed to stay warm! There were plenty of kids playing outside in my neighborhood after all the school buses came through this afternoon.
Sorry for the continued repairs. Drywall is the worst; So dusty and messy.
I think you smell wonderful today although I bet FdP is a hard sell for you. ? You mentioned before that Iris isn’t your favorite note. FdP is al about it.
So far, there really hasn’t been much dust. Most of the fixes are being done with mudding compound. There’s been only one spot that needed new drywall to be put in, and it was about the size of my outstretched hand.
Iris and I aren’t bestest buddies, for sure. But I am much more tolerant of the note than when I fell down the rabbit hole. And Chanel No. 19 has always been something I’ve liked, even before I knew what perfume notes were.
I don’t think I could ever see myself wearing iris in warm/hot weather. Definitely a cool/cold weather note for me!
SOTD = Amouage Attar Incense Rori
CP points and this may be it for me but hmmm, I just realized I may have a “sample”.
The incense attar is resinous and has a salty facet to it. And, it just hit me that Incan make these attars more complex (complexify?) by layering them! IG was misbehaving since last night and just became available for me.

Back in the office tomorrow and then I have a three-day weekend!
Yay for a three-day weekend! ?
?
I had a PT appointment today for plantar fasciitis and he confirmed it is PF and not much PT can really do to help it. 🙁 He recommended I get one of those night sleeping braces as many find that helps. And he did give me an exercise to do. If anyone has ever slept in a night brace and has a rec for which to off Amazon let me know please. 😉
I am sniffing the 3 new Tom Ford Roses on cards as my appointment was close to a mall. They are all different of course but not terribly rose-centric imho. All interesting…I like Rose D’Amalfi the best and it is the sweetest…quite powdery too. I debated getting the travel spray set w/ all 3 but after sniffing on paper will not. 😉
Rose d’Amalfi is the only one am curious to try. But good call on not springing for the set.
Not familiar with the night braces. A relative who had PF said the most helpful exercise was going up & down on tiptoes on a stair, providing a decent stretch. Someone else uses one of those spiked balls to roll under the foot. Hope it goes away soon!
Thank you for the stairs tip. I think I saw that exercise online too and shall try it.
No recs for braces, sorry. But I have heard of people getting some relief by rolling either a tennis ball or a lacrosse ball under their foot.
Thanks, Jalapeno. I shall try a tennis ball.
Sorry about the PF! Custom orthotics finally helped mine, but my most soothing thing was to freeze a water bottle and roll it with my foot. Before I got the orthotics I used Spenko shoe inserts, they held off the more expensive orthotics for several years. They’re on Amazon. I don’t know about a brace, though.
CP points for me! SOTD was Dioramour. Very nice.
