Happy Duet Friday! Our community project for today: wear two perfumes, one on each wrist or arm. You can choose two that seem made for each other, that bring out something special in each other, or that compete for the spotlight? (Suggested by Kanuka, who listed as inspiration Lakme’s flower duet, Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood singing Jackson, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett crooning softly in your ear, Billy Idol and Miley Cyrus belting out Rebel Yell.)
What fragrance(s) did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I've separated my favorite layering combo, so I've got Hermès Eau des Merveilles on one arm and Eau Claire des Merveilles on the other.
Reminder: on 2/18, we're doing Testing, testing, 1 2 3. Wear a perfume (or more than one) that you have never worn before, and tell us about it. (This is almost certainly a repeat.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m going with Dzongkha and Timbuktu. Happy Friday!
Fabulous!
You are truly rolling around in the hay, somewhere out in Africa.????????
LOL! I think Dzongkha is in Nepal but for sure Timbuktu qualifies!
You smell amazing!
Hey, we’re l’Artisan house twins today! ?
Two of my absolute faves.
Two of my favorite L’Artisan scents. You smell wonderful.
Timbuktu and Voleur d’Roses are my favorites from L’Artisan.
Deep in the back of my cabinet, hiding coyly behind some taller bottles, was Clinique Chemistry, which I had more or less forgotten I owned. Standing tall next to it was Halston Catalyst for Men in its slivery test-tube rack. Serendipity! A theme!
Chemistry, on my left hand, is bright and citrusy up top, and then grows ever darker as the woody chypre base takes over. Catalyst, on my right, starts out dark and warm and never deviates from that, all spices (cloves!) and wood, a bit sweet. What they have in common. apart from the laboratory setting: they both smell *instantly* like men’s fragrances, no dithering; they were both launched in 1994; they both have oakmoss, obviously; and they are both excellent. Without question they don’t make them like this any more.
Oh I love that Halston packaging!!
In truth, probably the best overall packaging for a men’s scent ever. Every single thing about it is unimprovable. When it was launched they did a GWP, a rack containing one-ounce test tubes of EDT spray, biphasic after shave, and shower gel; even if I hadn’t meant to buy (though obviously I was lost as soon as I smelled it), that would have tipped me over the edge.
I would have bought it jist for the gwp myself!
Ooh — these both sound fab. I was oblivious to the outside world and utterly broke in 1994 (I was in grad school), which may explain why I’d never heard of either of these.
Happy Friday!
SOTD!
Parfums Grès Hommage à Marlene Dietrich.
On ze left arm My Passion
On ze right arm My Dream
Unworn in ze trio:My Life.
These were bashed to smithereens by Luca Turin in The Guide, which obviously made me very very curious.
I got a set of 3 5mls in a cute little box featuring Dietrich’s signature and some Warhol-esque photographs of her on the lid.
I do enjoy the two I am wearing, and they do compliment each other fairly well.Planning to test the 3rd one in a bit, just for the hell of it.I would suspect that Dietrich herself might have chosen more sultry scents as personal fragrance. These are pretty florals.
XO’s?✌?
https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ12W9bK_9Tk23RHW47vOkn7uYeUK1wuMnVedo0/?utm_medium=copy_link
a picture tells a 1000 words….✌?
I see we have another nurse among us. I am now a retired one, but always happy to see all the nurses on here. And we smell good!
Surprisingly many perfumista nurses, yes! My one colleague/friend is also a perfume collector of note, and I admire her SOTD’S!Alien!Amarige!Insolence!Coco Mademoiselle!?✌?
Wow, completely forgot about those!
I like that you bought them because LT hated them. I bought a couple small things because LT loved them, and discovered we did not always see eye to eye 🙂
While I *mostly agreed with him, there were definitely some moments of utter disbelief in his comments on some of my favorites-all in good fun of course!?✌?
This may be how I feel about Cloon Keen’s Castaña. LT labeled it a masterpiece. To me, it is undeniably beautiful, and I enjoy many aspects of it, but it doesn’t mesmerize me. OTOH, I’ve only only tried it twice, and I know full well that some of the greats take a while for me to “get.”
I got a chuckle out of your getting perfumes for the sake of being contrary. I’ve done that, too.
Haha!
Well he lead me to perfumes that I would never have explored otherwise as well.
Habit Rouge being the first one.
I went with my favorite combo to layer as well, so Hermes Poivre Samarcande on one arm and Rose Ikebana on the other. I prefer the latter layered tbh…
I prefer my two layered too, so maybe neither of us chose well for this project!
I went with two jasmine scents: ELDO Jasmin et Cigarette and Floris Night Scented Jasmine.
That sounds like a nice combo!
Sounds really good
Any comparisons or observations on how they blend?
They are quite different. Compared to Floris, jasmine is quite restrained in ELDO. It is sort of bitter-sweet and wet, with a strong ashtray note. More like herbal, aromatic floral. And it gets even more bitter as it develops.
Floris is a more traditional white floral bouquet, cheerful jasmine and orange blossom. Sweet with soft fresh green notes.
I think they do not blend at all despite being named after the same flower and sharing the jasmine note. When worn together, they seem to accentuate how different they are from each other – Floris smells happier and sweeter and ELDO smells darker and moodier than how I remember them separately.
Thank you! Good detailed analysis!
But which do you like better?
Hard to tell. I think Night Scented Jasmine is more my thing, because I like bright, happy white florals. But Jasmin et Cigarette is so interesting and unique… I need to be in the right mood to for it though.
That sounds nice.
I’m in Dame Earth Mother on one arm and Sky Father on the other. These are two decants that I wore once, thought meh, and never wore again. They have been left to languish in my decant box, and have evaporated to almost nothing. However, I may have to get another decant of Earth Mother, since that one seems to be more interesting than the first time I tried it. On the other hand it might just be the combination of the two, although just sniffing the Sky Father arm has left me unimpressed. I’ll wear the dregs of Earth Mother this weekend and figure it out.
I like that idea!
Maybe it’s the evaporated more concentrated version that made it smell better?
That’s what I was thinking. Many of the neglected decants that I’ve thunked this month have been evaporated.
I chuckled when I read your post – I’m wearing the exact two scents for completely different reasons! As soon as I read what today’s cp was I knew what my choices would be. Although they are both favorites of mine that I’ve enjoyed wearing for several years now, this the first time I’ve worn them together and I’m really liking the result. Glad you gave them another try!
Sky Father didn’t work for me at all. But I rather liked Earth Mother.
I started my perfume obsession with Jo Malone so decided to go with that. My duo is Orange Blossom and Vintage Gardenia.
That sounds like a lovely combo.
Oooh, you smell like spring!
A little early for spring, but what the heck. It smells nice on this chilly day in the Midwest.
I went with chocolate and vanilla – Nest Cocoa Woods and Nicolaï Vanille Tonka. Originally pulled out my rollerball of Vanilla Flash (the Nest is a rollerball mini) only to find that it’s completely evaporated. There wasn’t a lot left, but hate to lose the last bit.
You can always pry off the ball and hope there’s a teensy amount to shake out.
You smell like Valentine’s Day!
Sometimes a little bit of rubbing alcohol can reconstitute a dried out sample or decant.
Returned to Montale White Musk and my new bottle ofPN Poudre de Musc. The latter has hawthorne, which might be the bit I am really enjoying.
That sounds nice! I don’t think I know what hawthorne smells like.
I loved the CP this week Robin!
I would fit this into “Perfume has no gender boundaries”
I have some Byredo on today. On one wrist is Black Saffron.
Leather, cigarettes (?) I love it.
The other is Slow Dance…Cognac, vanilla ..incense
Makeup today since I have a zoom call very soon. Chantecaille blush and eye quad, Lancôme mascara , Lisa Eldridge lippy.
What a good combination: perfume and makeup!
Thank you!
Slow dance is the sweeter of the two scents. But today Black Saffron fits more my mood!
For the makeup I am trying a new Givenchy foundation I picked up. Wears like a tinted moisturizer and I like it a little more than my beloved Laura Mercier!
I owe you an enabler pin. I bought a BY Terry eyeshadow palette ( I liked the tin) to ramp up my game. Only trouble is I don’t want to mess it up by using it.
https://www.byterry.com/vip-expert-bonjour-paris-palette/13205323.html
I love BY Terry!
What do you think of that pallet? I am going to check my stash and see what I have..
I still haven’t tried it but it looks good.
That’s a gorgeous palette. I wouldn’t want to mess it up, either.
That is stunning! Maybe they should sell a plain version of those shades for actual use 🙂
Kanuka-
I checked my stash and I have brightening cc palette (blush), Paris mon amour eyeshadow palette.
They both get a lot of love. Its so fun to play !
Enjoy, and let me know what you think
Oh! What is the Givenchy? They used to make a foundation that I LOVED. I cannot wear the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer – instant breakout for me. But I am going to need something, soon — I need heavy moisturizer with Fenty, and all the color ends up on my mask. How is the transfer factor for the Givenchy when wearing a mask? I am hoping to try the new Charlotte Tilbury tinted moisturizer/BB cream that has just been launched here in Ireland — it may already be in the States?
Prisme Libre is the name of the foundation. Hydrating , coverage and lasting power is to my liking. Have your tried Chanel vitaluminere aqua? That is a good one too..
LTSG is still on the Byredo train this week. Smelling good my friend.
I am in Philosykos EDP for this lovely sunny day ?
Happy Friday, everyone!
Happy Friday!
TF Ombre Leather paired with SSS Velvet Rose. I got a sample of the Ombre Leather in a Sephora package earlier this week, because they never send the samples I actually ordered (what is it with Sephora’s online store?), so I thought I’d try it last night, and then thought it might work better paired with rose this morning.
Can’t say I’d spend money on the TF. It’s WAAAY too literal on me, nothing but stiff leather. It relaxed a bit after a couple of hours last night, so I’m hoping it will again today. It does have lasting power, though. And the kid told me I smelled nice when I was putting her to bed last night. But I prefer a bit more complexity than I’m getting off this scent.
Leather twins..if that is a good thing…
It IS! I love leather, generally. I just like a bit more complexity than I was getting off the first couple hours of the TF, and it really dominated for that period. The drydown’s very wearable, though, and the Velvet Rose started dominating then.
How is Velvet Rose?
I really like Velvet Rose. It’s probably the most straight-up rose I own, even a bit more so than MCMC Kept, which I also like. I have a ton of other roses, but they’re all a bit more complicated. Sometimes I just like a nice, full rose.
SSS does rose perfumes beautifully. ???
My twofer is from l’Artisan today.
Safran Troublant and Tea for Two. It’s a nice subdued combo.
Currently sipping moderately warm coffee (not my favorite) and doing laundry. I’m a firm believer in procrastination so I always wait to do my laundry at the last minute. Also have big plans to wash Moby, hike, grocery shop, pick up my contacts, fill my water and empty my toilet. And I’m working tonight! We’ll see how much actually gets done. ?
For those of you living in a normal world and enjoying a normal job, Happy FriYAY (as JadainGa would say- haven’t seen her in a while here or on IG…) and I hope you thoroughly enjoy your weekend!
Friday night working twins!
I wouldn’t know what to do with a normal schedule.
You smell great twin!
Moderately warm coffee twin! Have a good day ticking off your chores!
JadianGa and Bear have been missing. I haven’t seen SmokeyT but maybe I missed ST’s post
I haven’t seen Marjorie Rose for a long time either.
Those are the fwo FBs I have from L’Artisan, you smell fabulous 🙂
Full Bottle Twins! ✌?
Happy FriYAY, Deva! Miss seeing JadainGA too.
Wanted to ask if you have Farmacia Annunziata Vaniglia del Madagascar please? I seem to remember discussing that with you in the threads unless it’s a false memory.? I was thinking of hunting down a sample or decant to revisit but believe it might be discontinued now…don’t see it at Luckyscent anymore. Was wondering if you have it and might consider a swap or happy to pay for small decant too. Why do they always discontinue the good stuff??
Yes, I have a 100ml bottle. More than I’ll ever use. I’m happy to send you some, no swapping or payment necessary. You can email me at taiga101 in the land of yahooligans to arrange. Cheers!
Haven’t seen Isabella for a little while here. I hope that she’s doing all right.
Today I have 2 Clinique frags on; Aromatics Elixir on the left, Wrappings on the right. Just 1 spray each for now.
Inspired by Jalapeno over recent talk of amped up brownie recipes, yesterday I wore 4160 Tuesdays Over the Chocolate Shop and New York 1955. NY ’55 won that day. OtCS didn’t stick around too long on my scent-eating skin.
Wednesday was Jorum Trimerous and Ramon Monegal Impossible Iris. II won that day.
Yesterday I had a nice conversation with a friend of my nephew who is out here visiting (but mostly here for the golf). He asked if I did have any hobbies. I said, well yes I do. When he asked what they were, I said “I can’t tell you”, referring to this perfume hobby/passion. They are heading back home tomorrow so he said he will still try to get it out of me..
That’s kind of cute with your nephew’s friend ?
OTCS did not stick around long either and I don’t have scent-eating skin!
Oh, you smell so good today! I have and love both of those Clinique perfumes.
I kept thinking about Nancy Sinatra and somehow Chanel No. 19 seemed like the right fit. I usually wear my green fragrances during summer, and it feels so vibrant and crisp on a cold, sunny day like today. On the opposite wrist: a layering of Atelier Trèfle Pur and Iris Rebelle.
You did a three-fer!
Which Chanel No.19 formulation did you wear? I am married to the EDP and think that every household should have a bottle.
That’s why you got an enabler pin when I snagged an EdP bottle before I moved…knowing I’d never see it here.
???
EDP, for sure! And I agree that it should be a staple in every home! The Atelier Trèfle Pur really is good, too, solo or layered. I often layer it with Un Jardin Sur le Toit or In Jardin Sur le Nil. Ooooh, now I’m craving all the green scents! ?
And I have the two you layered so will try it out one day. All of my pairings this week were excellent!
Oh man, I have been all set to get the EDT next time I’m at a Chanel shop, but now you have me rethinking whether I should get the EDP instead.
That sounds like a cool combination.
Kanuka, it’s a favorite combo. Iris Rebelle is so great when I’m craving that root-y, fresh out of the dirt iris. The Trèfle Pur adds such a lovely garden green note to it. Oh, iris, how I love all of the iterations.
Nancy Sinatra & No. 19: spot on! And, I am trying to kept my lemming under control knowing Atelier may vanish over the horizon soon! I think I have all my favorites, but of the few I have not tested, I wonder if I should simply not go there. What if the one I love best is hardest to find and hence the most $$$??? Don’t need anymore yearnings in that category!
FWIW, if you have your favorite Ateliers, don’t go chasing any others. Plenty of other perfumed beauties are all too easily gettable!
Wise words, my friend; wise words!!! 😀
I went with Ancient Resins body oil on one arm and LVDP Hindu Kush on the other. They are similar, but the Ancient Resins is more bitter-herbal and the Hindu Kush a bit sweeter, and I do like them in combination. I foresee a layering experiment sometime soon.
That’s interesting, I need to try Hindu Kush.
They do 15 ml bottles … ?
I need to travel to the Hindu Kush.
Hello and TGIF!
It’s been such a fun week. I haven’t worn so much JM in a long time! Today I have Myrrh & Tonka on the left and Velvet Rose & Oud on the right. I saved the best combo till last. 🙂
That sounds great!
That combo seems perfect for valentine’s day
Oooooooh, wonderful picks! ? I will have to try that combo myself!
Another Jo Malone fan. Yay!!!!
lucky me, I got to sleep till 5:30am today.
Testing JM Starlight Mandarin and Honey. it’s pretty for a rather warmish day in SoCal.
Lucky you! I made it to 5:15. You smell lovely.
I need to try that one.
it’s pretty but does not last.
I may have to snag one of the engraved bottles before I depart to consult for a shipping company. Not glam but hey we need what’s in the containers.
And I can sleep till 6am
You smell sparkly and festive!
He’s a little bit gentle
He’s a little bit running wild
She’s a little bit of full grown woman
She’s a little bit of child
I’m taking one of the greatest musical duet masterpieces as my source: Donnie and Marie Osmond. A Little Bit Country, a Little Bit Rock’n’Roll.
I love my country with all my heart and soul
I go out on Saturday night for a little bit a rock ‘n roll
I now I’m gonna feel alright
No matter where I go
With a little bit a country
And a little bit a rock n roll
It’s Saturday here so I “now” I might go out and feel alright. Maybe Lillyjo could come too.
Enough! Perfume matches. For rock’n’roll Donnie it has to be Philosophy Fresh Cream. And for half’n’half full grown woman, little bit child Marie…hey, Philosophy Fresh Cream. Two creams are better than one.
Oh, the Osmonds. I always felt they got more than the standard complement of teeth.
SL Dent de Lait?
Indeed! 😀
oh sooooooo good!
???
I am in awe! What a great interpretation and I am disappointed in myself for not thinking of it!?
???
What a great homage, Kanuka!
I say you get full points!
At first glance I thought those were the lyrics to A Little Bit Alexis ?
I’m in a cloud (a duet!!) of orange blossom. On my left wrist is Penhaligon’s Orange Blossom and on my right JM’s Orange Blossom.
The weather is getting warmer and I am signing off work early today to hang out with some women friends. We plan to drink and dance by the pool.
This was truly a gawdawful week. It turned out that the identity theft was bad, but the sudden death of a young man in my son’s residential program knocked that issue off the self-pity plate. There are only 20 young people, and of them only 11 young men. So the young man’s passing has been hard. Depression is very high among high functioning adults with autism–something that haunts every parent with a quirky kid.
Mamas (and papas) hold your children tight. And if they are adults out and about in the world, hold them in your heart.
Agree – my kids are always held tight in my heart, but the reality is that I can’t always be there to save them. I hope you can relax later today with your friends. That sounds wonderful.
I will give my two a big hug! My kids are usually up before I am (Mr L wakes up at the crack of dawn) and this morning they drew me pictures and slipped them under my door..The best way to start my day
So sorry your family had to experience that! I’m sure with such a small group the impact is magnified.
I’m so sorry to hear this and sending you a big hug.
I’m so sorry that happened…I didn’t realize depression was an issue as you described. My heart goes out to his family and all the families.
You smell fantastic!
Depression.The invisible illness.
Sending hugs!
I’m so sorry.
I hold my kids tighter than I probably should. It’s hard not to, knowing how easily they can be influenced.
Parents know best, lillyjo: hold ’em!
I am so sorry, OF.
Oh no, I’m so sorry. I know of some similar situations. Hugs all ’round.
Oh geez. I am so sorry, Oakland Fresca. I can’t even begin to imagine. Hugs.
Orange blossom twins! I’m sorry about your awful week though. I hope your get-together with friends helped.
I like this cp – fun to pair my fragrances. Today it’s Milky Musk and Dzing!. Tomorrow I’m planning to go with Monserrat and Bal d’Afrique. Endless possibilities! Happy FriYAY, all.
Tomorrow I will twin with you in Bal d’Afrique and I haven’t thought of the second one yet…
SOTD = Aftelier Alchemy and 4160Tuesdays Clouds EDP
I’m with the CP so points for moi. Another great combination and I can’t determine where one started versus the other ending!
My mini-poll yesterday had 90% of the people preferring perfume boutique arrangement by brand. I can see though that for an SA, by dominant scent family may be attractive but to me, this type of placement does not invite exploratory variations.
Nothing to do with perfume although it could explain how we interact here — If you’re interested in knowing your creative type, you can take a quiz at mycreativetype.com. I’m the Innovator – move, shake, disrupt, repeat!
Fun quiz! I’m the Maker, apparently — quietly busy solving problems and working toward goals. I guess that’s fairly accurate.
Perfect! I need a MAKER to ground me in taking something from beginning to end!
You got it! ?
I am the dreamer. Ain’t that the truth! Lol.
Hi Dreamer Twin! ✌?
Another dreamer.
Wow! A DREAMER collaborates with INNOVATOR to see the practical side of things. That be me and I think we get along mighty fine!
I wish I had asked your advice before I purchased the 5 dollar losing lottery ticket this morning! Lol
?
I love these kinds of tests, so thank you for posting the site. I turned out to be “A Dreamer.” No surprise there! ?
I had no clue what I was going to be since personality type-wise via Myers-Briggs, I am an ESTJ.
I’m an ISFP…or ar least I was years ago when I took the test.!
According to that quiz, I need to hang with innovators, because I’m so busy with my head in the clouds, I need innovators to help me get stuff done and keep my feet on the ground. Hi, friend! Lol! ??
Oh my! Same as with lillyjo, I think we complement each other.
That really IS a fun quiz! I enjoyed all of the animations that were in interludes between the questions. It was interesting that for perhaps 2/3 of the questions I knew what to answer right away, but for the rest I really had to sit and ponder what to choose. I turn out to be a “Visionary” which I kind of liked. Oddly enough, given that I’m a philosopher by training and disposition, it said I would be best paired up with a “Thinker.” I’m sitting here trying to figure out why I myself didn’t turn out to be a thinker (am I a poor philosopher?!) but I’m kind of glad I’m not. Thank you!
I can see you being both a VISIONARY and a THINKER. I’m thinking that because this is a creative typing, it’s an area that one normally doesn’t examine in-depth and can yield surprising results.
You know, hajusuuri, I can really see you as The Innovator!
I was surprised because my MBTI is ESTJ. I had no clue what the end result types were but I am glad to be an INNOVATOR!
Interested in this quiz: you did *move* me to take it. I tried to balance gut reaction answers against questions that I felt stumped on and had to think about. Those crazy graphics meant nothing to me! But I thought it was fun. I came out as The Thinker. But not sure what I think about that XD. Thanks, Hajusuuri for a fun Friday diversion!
You and I are supposed to be good collaborators!
I think you did steer me toward the edt version of Aromatics Elixir a while back!
I got Thinker too. The quiz was fun!
Apparently I am a Producer and I need to pair up with Dreamers so that I don’t get so focused on what I *am* doing without considering what I *could* be be doing.
I’m also a Capricorn, and this 100% tracks.
Funny! I’m a Dreamer and a Pisces, and many of my good friends have been Capricorns. Maybe there’s something to all this zodiac stuff, huh? ?
I don’t really believe any of the star sign/horoscope mumbo jumbo, except that it is 100% accurate for this stubborn goat ??
I’m a Producer too! I’m a Virgo, so it seems right to me as well.
That means you & I definitely should have a perfume get together when the time is right!
Most definitely!
I am the Artist.I need a Producer in my life!Fun quiz.
I can totally see you as an artist. This quiz seems to be eerily accurate. ?
I’m a dreamer! I’m also a Cancer and yeah this is tracking for me as well, lol.
Dreamer here! And Myers-Briggs INTJ.
Yet another Dreamer here. I show up as either INTJ or INTP on Myers-Briggs.
I had to take several of those quizzes for work over the years. I found they were pretty accurate on what type of personality that I had.
How fun! I came out a Thinker. Well, I am very curious and always reading and learning. I need an Adventurer to balance me out. Anyone?
I am a huge walking pastry today: Lush Rose Jam and Dame Perfumery Chocolate Man??. I am pretty sure people are keeping their distance from me! ?
Enjoying my last day of this week staycation. The warm, sunny, gorgeous weather is still with us. I am on my way to meeting my newphew for lunch. First time eating outside since the pandemic started. I have to admit I feel uncomfortable, but I am sure we will have a nice time eating outdoors.
Yei ate a bit more this morning. I spoke to the vet, and we agreed to see how the weekend goes for him. We will talk again tomorrow. He is still in bad shape.
Happy and healthy Friday, everyone! ?
You are a walking Valentine’s Day! Rose and chocolate!
Yes!Love it!
Inspiration for me to wear Lost Cherry and Chocolate Greedy together tomorrow!!
LOL! It was an energizing combo!
Have a great lunch!
Thank you, Lillyjo! We had a lovely time.
Why would they avoid you? Seems like they would want to nibble on your elbow!
Nobody complained, so I think you were right! ??
Hope doggo improves a bit each day!
Thank you, Deva! I am still keeping my hopes!
I am glad you have what sounds like a caring vet to keep an eye on little Yei! Enjoy your lunch; DH and I have been quite out and about since our boost with no problems for us and our circle.
Yei is fortunate to have a very caring vet. He is always in touch, following up on Yei.
Lunch with my nephew was very nice. Few people around, perhaps because it was a weekday. I am sure the weekends are busier.
I’m so sorry about Yei.
My cat-sitter reports that one of my kitties has a big wound on her back. Who knows how she got it? I am so fortunate that she is taking poor Lucy to the vet this afternoon. It’s not as serious as your poor pup, but it’s tough to worry when I’m at a distance as I now am.
Oh no! I am so sorry to hear about Lucy! I hope she recovers quickly from the injury. I understand how you feel about not being around for Lucy. But it is a relief that you can count on your cat-sitter, especially when an emergency arises.
One of my cats has a big scratched-up spot on the back of her head. I have no idea how it got there. It seems to be healing up just fine, though, and it isn’t bothering her.
I thought you said you ate a big pastry on your way to lunch! That was inspiring!
Sorry Yei is having a difficult time. You are so good to each other. ❤ Wishing you everything good. Weekends are hard to wait for a check in. Prayers all around, my friend.
Thank you, Annie. I am very stressed about Yei’s situation. I have to stop the anti-nausea medication tomorrow. I am praying he can tolerate his food without it.
We got an email today saying we are mask-free except for the unvaccinated or those that are dealing directly with the public. I will be thinking hard about my personal stance as some businesses still require masks, I get my share of people whose air I would rather not breathe in and my comfort level in opening up myself to semi-avoidable pathogens. That said, I was very happy to see the email.
I was masked today all the time, except at the time of eating. Mask mandates here for businesses ended already, but I am still feeling uncomfortable about it. We also received an email from work yesterday. We need to keep wearing masks in common areas, but the guidance will be updated in the next couple of days. In-person meetings will be restored on Monday; however, Zoom and Teams will be kept as an option for now for people who prefer to join that way. I am not ready for indoor changes yet. I think it is going to take me a long time to get back to a pre-pandemic lifestyle.
Fingers crossed for Yei, and I hope you enjoy your lunch. I have felt so lucky that we live in a moderate climate where I’ve been able to have occasional meals with friends outside over the last two years.
Thank you, Old Herbaceous! ?
I had a very enjoyable lunchtime, and the weather was pleasant. We may reach the 60s tomorrow, but the temps will drop to the teens on Sunday evening with snow in the forecast. The change is brutally overwhelming!
That perfume combo sounds like it would invite people closer, not shoo them away!
Sorry to hear that Yei is in such rough shape.
Hope that your lunch outside was a good one! You picked a perfect day for it; so gorgeous out.
Thank you, Jalapeno! ?
The day was gorgeous, and tomorrow, it will be even better!
I’m sending out good thoughts for Yei. I hope he can tolerate his food.
Glad you had a nice lunch out this afternoon. Sending you some hugs!
Thank you, Gail! ?
So sorry about Yei, I hope he improves soon! Sounds like you have a very good vet.
Thank you, ringthing!
I hope Yei continues to improve! Sending him some cuddles.
Thank you, Socks!
Somehow I missed your post earlier. You smell absolutely delicious – I love your combo! And sending healing wishes for Yei and a big ? for you.
Thank you, Laila! ?
I created a battle of the tropical floral oils today: child v. kai. For me, Kai is the clear winner. While I liked the creamy opening of Child, it’s all sad and wan by now, while Kai still smells lush.
I agree—this was a fun CP!
I can’t wait to finish the work day and spend some time outside in this spring-like weather.
Kai is wonderful as an oil and I really do need to get another vial!
I love Kai and find myself wearing it a lot in the summer months.
Allure EdP one one arm and Gabrielle Essence on the other. I think of these as sister scents. Allure is the older, more sophisticated sibling to the younger, sweeter Gabrielle Essence. But they have similarities. And I enjoy both.
Oh, but you smell glorious with both. I do like Gabrielle quite a bit!
I’m wearing Bronze Goddess on one wrist and Elizabeth Taylor’s Gardenia on the other. Turns out it’s a deliciously summery combo, and I’m not one for layering generally.
Oh- you smell wonderfully summery! Delightful!
Nice combo!
I love pairing bronze goddess with other scents, especially things like plumeria or other tropical scents.
Nice!
I had a plan for the cp, but at the last second Alien leather version called my name.
I was going to wear a cheapie and an overpriced match. Bbw At the beach with TF Eau de Soliel Blanc.
Right now which one smells better?
The TF is definitely more floral but mixed really well with the At the beach lotion.
Wow that’s quite the duet!
I like you combo concept: one of the benefits of smelling many perfumes!
If you ever try your 2nd option please report back. Sounds like an interesting face-off!
I’ve only ever tried the match with the bbw lotion. The body mist would work too as a good layering option.
Can’t argue against the leather-clad Alien!
You must obey those siren calls. ?
Happy Friday!
The sunshine is awesome today!
SOTD: a combo of Bagatelle de Gabrielle and Joy (the OG). On one arm, bright orange flower/tonka/musk freshness and on the other, beautiful rose/jasmine/musk lushness. They go so beautifully together- I can see layering this on in the late spring/early summer for a wedding or a date.
Rose d‘ Arabie plus Musks Khoublai Khan, a bit dramatic but a great combo. Shakshuka for dinner plus a nice red wine from france. Happy Weekend
That combo does sound lovely!
No perfume yet this morning, but I’ve spent most evenings later wearing at least two perfumes. I’ve bought a lot of samples from TPC and Luckyscent and have been dabbing little bits all over my arms as I work out which ones warrant deeper investigations.
Last night, I tried Ambre Supreme from Les Indémodables and Jasmin Kâma from Rania J. Ambre Supreme didn’t grab me, but it might have been completely overwhelmed by Jasmin Kâma. It’s a lovely jasmine and powerful. I hadn’t tried any Rania J before and I’m keen to try more.
On a sort-of related note, we called our cat Phaedra, after the Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood duet Some Velvet Morning. It’s a strange song, lovely but completely perplexing.
Eau des Merveilles on my left arm; Mandarine Mandarin on my right:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nWslgPOI8I
You are a walking cloud of orangey goodness!
Oh, I just realized I reported wrong, I have the Elixir des Merveilles, not the Eau. But I am in an orangey cloud of goodness.
I actually prefer the Elixir to the Eau.
Belated congrats to you, Robin, for 17 NST years! And ? so very much for this beautiful place!
Double duets for me today: two of my favorite performers + two of my favorite Dame Perfumery scents together create an interesting visualization for me. Earth Mother on one wrist reminds me of Dolly Parton and Sky Father on the other wrist makes me think of Kenny Rogers (looking down on us and still singing from his special place in heaven), and they are reprising their beautiful ‘Islands in the Stream.’ Only this time we are the islands in the stream midway between the two of them, and the song is not about romantic love as much as it is about friendship and love – (theirs as well as ours as human beings). ‘How can we be wrong? Sail away with me to another world’ – a world of peace and unity and ❤️! – ‘and we rely on each other’. I want to travel to that place!

A cold and frosty weekend ahead but we’ll be tucked in with ???watching our favorite PBS dramas, the Olympics, and if the Super Bowl commercials get too boring (we don’t care about the ? itself) we might get an early start on our annual viewing of ‘Chocolat’ – my favorite Valentine’s Day (and pre-Lent) movie. I never tire of seeing this one, especially on a cold February day.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead – and remember to do something special to love yourself! ?
We’re patchouli note twins today! Earth Mother has a lovely one.
Yes, it does. I really like to wear Earth Mother in late winter/early spring when I visualize the first stirrings of new life beginning to stir deep within. You smell good! I’ll have to try Fancy Love sometime with a patchouli scent sometime – I ❤️ patchouli!
Oddly enough, Fancy Love reminded me of the patch note in the Angel EdP. I will have to try that face off at a later date, though. I was pretty darn aromatic today!
I’m doing rose oud combos today with MFK Oud Satin Mood on my left wrist and By Kilian Rose Oud on the right. This is a combination I adore. Somehow for an odd reason I’m not smelling much rose in either, though ordinarily I do. ??? The MFK is simply smoother and more seductive with powdery and smokey-vanilla elements. The Kilian is a very loud stinky out. I wonder if my smeller is off or if the interaction is making me miss things? I bought the whole set of MFK Oud Moods and immediately fell for the Oud Satin Mood. It’s one of my absolute favorites.
If you have another rose-oud combination I would love to know about it!
Last night I began the book The Family Chau. It’s a true page-turner. I’m well over halfway through. I think it would be a good read for most anyone, but if you know The Brothers Karamazov, which she is riffing upon, then it’s amazing and brilliant–so creative and fun. It’s unnerving in many ways (accounts of anti-Chinese racism in the US) but also enlightening.
Love to hear what people are reading…
For not candy sweet Rose scents I like New York by fragrance du bois, Montale rose musk and lately Rose Prick, though the rose is in the back ground of this perfume and not front and center. Another Oud by Juliette has a Gun is pretty. Encens Mythique is really beautiful but I am not sure it has what you are looking for. Anyways, I guess I am no help! Someone else can chime in.
I finished the book this afternoon. It’s a real WOW. My guess is that this is a movie just waiting to happen, and it will be total dynamite starring a wide swath of prominent Asian actors in deep character roles. Mark my words! Thanks for the suggestions!
I like both Estee Lauder’s Wood Mystique and Amber Mystique. They have a big fruity-amber phase, but rose and oud are there in a shy way.
They sound good and I’ve never tried either. Thank you!
David Yurman Limited Edition is a rose/oud extrait. Very nice, and sometimes to be found in a tester bottle at the online discounters. The bottle is gorgeous, too, even without the fancy cap.
Oooh, I’m going to look for it!
Atelier Cologne’s Rose Anonyme is a lighter weight, but still pretty rose/oud combination. I liked it enough to get a travel spray.
Thank you!
Happy Friday to all!
I’m going for broke over here with Fracas on one wrist and Tubéreuse Criminelle on the other. Since my skin eats perfume, I’ll be ready for Carnal Flower by late afternoon.
Trio day!
Wow! You smell amazing! I cannot imagine having skin that would eat those tuberoses. I am impressed!
The only ones my skin doesn’t eat (as fast) are Nuit de Bakélite and Carnal Flower
I’m very impressed! Sounds like a great combo.
Holy heavy hitters Batman! I would keel over if I tried to do that.
SOTD is Dzing! and…Dzing!
We are on the Dingle peninsula with the students for the weekend, and currently experiencing a wild Atlantic storm. Warm and snug in our hotel, thank goodness — but tomorrow’s day of hiking around archaeological sites will be…interesting. I have good rain gear, EXCEPT for the footwear. But I do have spare shoes and extra socks.
You smell fabulous and fabulous! And the Dingle Peninsula is so amazing, even (or especially) when stormy – enjoy!
Hey now, you’re not too far my dad’s stomping grounds just a little to the south- the Beara Peninsula. Glengarriff is the nearest town to the farm he was born on, which is still in the family. Southwest Ireland is just stupendously lovely! I hope your enjoying your time there. ??
You’re* ?
How beautiful — I hope you stay warm and can see as much of the scenery as you want. Our one trip to the Cliffs of Moher, a few summers ago, was the one rainy day of the whole trip. It poured, and we couldn’t see more than a few feet over the edge. Very disappointing! But now I have an excuse to go back … I love Ireland.
Happy Friday! I had to make a quick decision this morning. I paired DSH Gingembre with Bois des Iles hoping to emphasize the gingerbread note. I think it worked.
There’s a gingerbread note in Bois de Iles?
So they say. Although, I only get a tiny hint. I have the EDT so the reformulated EDP may not.
The sample I have is also EdT, and I’ve never noticed gingerbread at all. Time to dig that sample out of the Stash!
Maybe you’ll find it now that you know it’s there. It is not a pronounced note. ?
I love this pairing!
I do get a faint gingerbread in Bois des Iles, more in the drydown. And more so in the EDP than the EDT…. but could be just my nose!
I get it faintly too. Although, it depends on the weather. I love ginger notes in perfume which is what I wanted to enhance.
SOTD: Confetto with a delicious coconut lotion. Definitely will reapply and add Kulfi. Both my travel size of Confetto and Kulfi are draining quickly!
Covid symptoms persist. I had very low blood pressure this week at a drs office. My advice was to drink lots of fluids, eat nutritionally and add salt to everything.
And poop was picked up before I got up!
Happy Friday!
Oh take good care of yourself, Annie! I missed that you were stricken with Covid! I, who must restrict salt, would find it all too easy to follow your guidelines so I hope they help you to a speedy recovery.
I hope you start feeling better soon!
I hope you are feeling better very soon. Confetto sounds fantastic, right up my ever-growing gourmand tooth!
Hope that you are feeling better soon. Take care of yourself.
And YAY for poop getting dealt with before you got up!
Ugh, so sorry to read that you are sick. I hope that you feel better soon.
I hope you feel better soon, and I can sympathize with you on the poop situation! I had to do a lot of cleaning up after my last dog when she got sick.
Hope you feel better soon and your symptoms ease. Sending healing vibes your way!
Well, I’m not having a lot of success with my duets this week! Still claiming CP points, though. Today I stopped by Sephora to see what Atelier Cologne they have left, and whether I like any, so I put Lemon Island on one hand and Vanille Insensée on the other. Meh. I actually like Lemon Island more than Vanille Insensée, which surprised me because I think VI has a lot of fans. Not good on my skin. Lemon Island is okay, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it, even on sale. I will wash them both off later and attempt a duet with some better frags.
Lemon and vanilla would be a good place to start, but obviously, they don’t always take one where one would want to be! 🙂
I’m with you on the Vanille Insensee. Doesn’t work for me at all
I am also with you on Vanilla Insensee. I’m not sure what it is but the drydown isn’t that great on me.
I have mixed results for Vanille Insensee. Sometimes I wear it and can’t wait to get rid of it. Other times, it’s all good. I think it might be one of those very weather-dependent perfumes for me.
I’m wearing an armload of roses today. MFK A La Rose, Miss Dior Rose n’Roses, and Dior La Colle Noire. MFK ALR is a beautiful, romantic rose. Like a handful of soft, pink rose petals. Rose by far dominates, and the citrus, violet, and magnolia come out only if I hunt for them; they seem to be there to amplify the rose, rather than create contrast or complexity around it.
With MDRnR I get rose and geranium, including the geranium greens. It gives it a sharper, greener note than the straight forward MFK ALR. I get some some mandarin juice, but only a few drops. There was some awful hairspray note when I sprayed it on, but that was gone in a minute or two.
I wasn’t planning to try LCN, but I saw a lot of comparisons between it and MDRnR, and I had just gotten a sample from Lucky Scent, so why not? turnsout to be my favorite of the three. Petal soft, not thick enough to be velvety or powdery enough to be powdery. Has an English rose vibe, I think from the LOTV and peony which are no more than supporting notes, but work really well here. The black currant, raspberry, and peach create a balanced sweet-tart combo that plays well off the rose. Gorgeous.
Drinking london fogs today.
You must smell like a gorgeous cloud of roses! I remember really liking LCN when I tried it at the store. And I really should try the MFK one, it seems like a must-try for rose lovers.
Ooh that LCN is really u my alley!
I have a decant of La Colle Noire, and I agree — it’s lovely. And yes, you must smell like an entire rose garden!
Interesting re: MFK A La Rose. On me it was an aquatic rose that I didn’t care for. Your version sounds much better.
Hmm, definitely didn’t go aquatic for me, but also was not the best rose I wore this week. Not even the best FK rose I wore this week — I preferred Rose de Siwa.
Wearing Clouds and Both Sides of Clouds today.
Work has been crazy busy and stressful this year so far. I am listening to a book on Audible about overthinking and how to channel emotions at work think I need to listen faster!!! ehaeheh?
Recently received an email from Nordstrom encouraging me to check out their beauty exclusives. You might like this:

Thank you for the shower cream link! It is so tempting. ? I see they have a vanilla hand cream too. So much vanilla…so little time!
Ooh, Clouds and Both Sides of Clouds, together! Brilliant! You smell great!
Thank you! They are both beautiful.
That is a great combo, I bet! Which one do you like better, or is that like asking which of your kids is your favorite?
Ahhaha it hard to pick but maybe Both Sides…it’s close though. Clouds has some beautiful nuances that Both Sides doesn’t.
Hey all! I’m in dueling orange blossoms today: Yves Rocher Neroli on my left arm, and Elie Saab Le Parfum on the right. They start out kinda similar, but now the YR is more sharp and musky and the ES has more of a mix of florals than just orange blossom. At this stage I like the ES better.
Today is the first day of my little vacation, woohoo! I’d hoped to go somewhere warm but still don’t feel like traveling long distances, so I’ll just be visiting the fam. I’m off to do a bunch of errands now but will be back later to read the rest of the comments.
Yay for a sorta-kinda staycation! It’s still a much needed chance to reset and refresh.
Yes! I’ll be going to my parents’ house tomorrow, which always feels like my real home even though I haven’t lived there in years. I will definitely reset and refresh.
My duo today centers around peach notes. I’ve got Flower of Immortality on one arm, and Histoire’s 1969 on the other. In the weird heat wave we’re having, I’m enjoying the Flower more, it’s like a refreshing peach tea.
I’m eager for it to cool down a bit so I can try hajusuuri’s vanilla pairing from yesterday!
Nice pairing. I’ve sniffed 1969 but haven’t the other. Peach tea sounds delightful!
I’m in Benjoin Boheme on the left and Indochine on the right. There’s a lot of similarity between the two, but BB is significantly sweeter than Indochine. I do prefer Indochine.
Nice pairing Nancy!
I thought of Benjoin Boheme this morning but the temps here are unseasonably warm at the moment.
Indochine has that gorgeous spicy honey note.
I’ll have to give that combo a whirl. Spicy incense heaven.
Thanks Petunia! I hope you get some chilly weather soon. ?
I’m comparing two DSH perfumes, both of which have fruity notes. I’ve got Ruby Candlelight in voile de parfum format on my left arm and Muresque EdP on my right arm. RC has a raspberry top note while Muresque has prominent and long lasting blackberry. I am not really a fan of her VdP concentration and am bummed I didn’t specify in the notes that I wanted EdP when I ordered the 5ml spray of RC. I enjoyed my sample of the EdP much more because yhe raspberry was very present and helped balance out the perfume. I can’t really smell it in the VdP. Instead, it emphasizes the beeswax but in a way that makes me think of unsweetened coconut? Weird, but that’s what I smell.
I’m loving Muresque though! It’s a rich, winey blackberry.
So many scent types/formats at DSH are part of why I have yet to get anything from there.
I am wearing the ground-breaking Bois Datchai overall today from a sample that recently arrived.
Was going to compare it to Russian Tea this afternoon but my large decant glass bottle of Hilde Soliani’s Hot Milk just arrived and couldn’t resist but to spray that. Hot milk is just perfect for what it is. Initial sprsy revealed a very herbal note, like smelling someone’s herbs and spice cabinet. But the whole time a very lactic, warm milk undertone is very present. The milk note radiates in it’s sillage. But putting my nose directly on where I applied gets me a very herbal chili oil note. Overall the milk in it smells like the kind I like: no reduced fat, full milk. Actually makes me crave warm milk a lot!!
Another gorgeous sunny day here today at 61 degrees F (16 degrees C)! Not a cloud to be seen in the sky, just a beautiful blue that whispered “Spring is coming!” The weather made grocery shopping a pleasure. ???
Weird grocery outage this time: no ice cream at the store. I don’t recall ice cream being a Super Bowl Thing. Did I miss a memo or something? ??
SsOTD = JS Fancy Love and Sana Jardin Celestial Patchouli. The Fancy Love starts off with a camphor note and slowly eases into mellow patch with a teeny tiny hint of vanilla, while the Celestial Patchouli is spicy and smoky. These 2 perfumes curl and swirl around each other very nicely! Drydowns are very similar.
My grocery store was almost completely out of spaghetti sauce this trip. I did see plenty of ice cream here. I didn’t get any because there was also brownie cheesecake. Lol.
Hey, you gotta have priorities, right?
Wow, practically a heat wave. No wonder the ice cream was sold out.
And tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer! ?
Hey Fancy Love friend! I’m super jealous of your warm weather!
Not CP-compliant, but it’s remarkable enough for me to have on one perfume these days, much less three, so I thought I’d comment anyway. This morning I put on PG Querelle, from I sample I had forgotten about and never tried before. I like it, but I don’t get the incense people talk about in this one; I guess it’s been so long my nose is broken. Then, randomly this afternoon, I put JM Silver Birch and Lavender on one hand, and Chanel Paris-Edimbourg on the other. The two don’t clash as much as you might think… Anyway, Edimbourg is still going strong, while SB and L is now very faint.
Hello FearsMice!
Waving hello back to you!
Good to see you!
Good to see you, too!
PSA: By Killian Angels Share Travel size available at Sephora. $45 for 7.5ml ? or $6 per ml,
If that feels any better…?
I have been loving and loving thw Hot Milk trail around me so I ordered a little (10ml) backup from Hilde’s website for now. Also still have Maison Crivelly Patchouli Magnetik cute travel spray coming in the mail and now I also have a Santal Volcanique coming in the mail too (also a travel spray). All of my most recent purchases were in travel sprays, samples or decants. But my next time with extra FB cash to spend I am DEFINITELY buying a bottle of Bois Datchai!!!!
Very late to the party. It was pouring rain when I got going this morning with temperatures in the 30s (F), and I immediately wanted to smell a leathery chypre so I sprayed on Cabochard. It’s like a gardenia wearing a leather jacket. I’ve been craving Black Orchid lately and can’t find any of the decants I have but I found an ignored bottle of Black Orchid Voile d’Fleur and sprayed it on too. Both perfumes connect at the gardenia, and once Cabochard’s black leather relaxed, they smell great together. Happy weekend, everyone!
I too think leathery (or any) chypres are warming in cold, damp weather. And I really liked BO Voile d’Fleur way better than I usually like TF’s perfumes.
