It's Monday and National Peanut Butter Day. Birthdays: Edith Wharton, Neil Diamond, Aaron Neville, John Belushi. RIP Thierry Mugler. What fragrance are you wearing?
I had planned to wear Guerlain Jicky for the photograph above, but I switched to Mugler Cologne in honor of Thierry Mugler.
Reminder: 1/28 is Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette's birthday. Do whatever you like with the theme (wear a fragrance inspired by Colette or one of her characters? scent a character? scent Leslie Caron in the movie Gigi? Or wear Guerlain Jicky, which Colette is said to have worn.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning.
I am wearing Angel in honour of Mr. Mugler.
Currently drinking Blue Mountain coffee.
We are just starting 2022 but it seems like we are losing so many people already…
Did not see the news until now, but I’ll join you in Angel tomorrow.
It does seem like that.
I agree. It does seem like there are too many people leaving these days. It has been true closer to home, although thankfully not anyone I have been close to. But friends and family have been going through the wringer. Tough times.
Wearing Alien in honor of Thierry Mugler.
Drinking my second cup of coffee with few drops of anise and four butter cookies.
Safe and healthy Monday, everyone!
Hope you had a relaxing weekend!
YES!!!! It was quiet and free of stress! ?
SO happy to hear that you had a relaxing weekend after last week’s unpleasant surprise.
Thank you, Jalapeno! We really enjoyed our weekend at home!
If I had read this before I’d left the house I would be in Over the Musk. In reality I’m in Vanille Insensee. Maybe tomorrow.
We’ve had snow over the past two nights and it really looks like winter outside. Took my college daughter back yesterday and it was a pretty drive with bright blue skies and the snow hanging in the trees. She is stocked up on groceries for a little while at least. I didn’t cry when I said goodbye, but man it was close! My eyes welled up when I hugged her and she said to me “don’t cry” and so I didn’t. I love all my kiddos but that middle one is like a ray of sunshine. Almost always in a good mood and she just radiates happiness.☺️ I love being around her.
I woke up with Duran Duran playing in my head, anyone else watch them on Austin City Limits last night?
Feeling how much you love your kids makes me want to cry!
Among the rock kids in my middle school it was uncool to admit to liking any of the new wave of current music. The exception being Duran Duran and Adam Ant. Lol. Still love them both.
Aww. Like my daughter says, don’t cry!?
That’s too funny. They still sounded good. I also love Adam Ant, still have my copy of Strip on vinyl from 1983!?
That was my first concert!?
OMG? That is so cool!
i saw him in Munich in the long gone concert hall Schwabylon, must have been 1980 or 81, one of my first concerts. He looked stunning!
I’m glad you had such a good visit with your daughter!
Back in the day, I LOATHED Duran Duran. However, as an adult, I’ve found an appreciation for them. And of course, even though I didn’t like them, since I was in the appropriate demographic, I heard all of their songs enough that those lyrics are indelibly etched into my brain.
Thanks missionista!
Those lyrics are etched on all of our brains of a certain demographic I am guessing.?
You describe it exactly as I also feel about Duran Duran!
Awww this made me miss my own daughter even more.
I recorded Duran Duran, we were in football world last night and it wore me out.
Gah. This parenting thing. Our kids. Our kids! And this separating business–pride and sadness (where on earth did the time go?) all wrapped up. I actually like being an empty-nester. I love the freedom. But I really miss my boys–especially the laughter. I love that I can still make them both laugh incredibly hard. I miss that. My younger one, with all of his quirks and disabilities, will no doubt have periods back under our roof. I am totally okay with that–lots of jigsaw puzzles and laughter then.
Your daughter sounds like a gem.
I know that successful parenting means that we raise our children so that they can successfully fledge, but I can’t think of anything more bittersweet! Fortunately, my son staunchly insists that we’re going to live together forever, and that when he grows up he’s going to buy a farm for us both to live on. He’ll grow the food and I’ll make the pies, apparently, and if I want my own cottage I can have it but it can’t be further than across the street from his. Sounds perfect to me.
Oh wow. This brought tears to my eyes.
Sweet.☺️
Yes, to all of this. I’m proud of my sons and feel they have been successfully “launched” into the world, and I also enjoy having my own schedule now, but boy do I miss all the laughter and fun. I still see them but not often enough. And now two of them are getting married. That feels like another level. Bittersweet for sure.
Where on earth did the time go, is right! Your post made me all teary.? I miss the laughter while she’s away too, or more specifically, the giggling. When my girls are together there isn’t a day that goes by where there isn’t giggling in the house.
I would give my eyeteeth to be the kind of person who is almost always in a good mood and radiates happiness. Alas I didn’t come equipped with that sort of disposition…
+1
+2 … Though since taking vitamin D and magnesium I find my mood has much improved somehow (and can’t put it down to anything external). Apparently both deficiencies are rampant in the population and are a frequent cause of anxiety and low mood. Just in case it helps anyone.
Me too – vitamin D and magnesium have helped me as well. But there’s only so much they can do.
Sending you a big hug cazaubon xxx
Thanks for the advice, Cicely, I could add magnesium to my vitamins.
After years of trying to fight anxiety on my own, I realized that therapy helps me the most. But yeah, there is only so much we can do and I’ve become much better at accepting that it’s part of who I am and learning to live with it.
You are so right, accepting yourself is so important! The one little lesson I have learned over time is to be a bit kinder to myself. Therapy (cognitive) also helped me.. thoughts can be powerful.
The other thing magnesium is good for is sleep- and being stressed and anxious increases the chances of deficiency as your needs increase.
Awwwwwwwwww. The bonds of affection between you and your kids is such a wonderful thing to read about, madtowngirl. ?
I naturally decided to wear a Mugler in memoriam to his genius, and discovered to my surprise that I have an even dozen Muglers at my fingertips (I genuinely had no idea), so I’m doing a week. I don’t know how I’ll align one of them with Colette but I’ll think of something.
Today I’m in the brilliant A*Men Ultra Zest, which is basically the original scent with an overlay of orange peel and ginger. It’s great fun. I’m even wearing a bright marigold-coloured shirt to match it.
I also had more than I thought, eight Muglers, and am doing a week. Was going to go with Robin’s Cologne, but ultimately chose Oriental Express instead. Would love to see your Ultra Zest-appropriate shirt. Loved the A*Men Ultra Zest bottle.
Happy Birthday, Edith Wharton! I miss you.
It’s this one: https://www.budgetpromotion.ca/products/gildan-cotton-longsleeve-t-shirt-gold. It’s even brighter and more yellow-orange than it looks in the photo. I don’t usually wear strong colours but I love this so much.
You smell fantastic. Oriental Express is my favorite Mugler.
Mugler and Colette were both interested in liberty from sexual mores…this is from Fashion magazine:
“He has always been an outlier whose work is provocative and unapologetically designed for women who own their sexuality and power. It’s also for women—and audiences—who share his mischievous sense of humour.”
So hey, you could say the same of Colette, right? And she also used clothing to explore gender roles, as did Mugler…

Excellent point, and interesting link, thank you!
Living large in l’Elephant which is still going strong after 12+ hours. I got THREE compliments last night, which is amazing! ?
I’m enjoying all the new makeup I bought in the last couple of months, and make-up play has become a kind of therapy for me. It seems strange now that the last few years I have had minimal interest in it. When I hit the road, I planned to have a “minimal make-up capsule” like some do with their wardrobe. It was fine for a while, but so boring!
For those interested, the LE liquid Lux eye shadows are a dream! Very easy to work with, can be an everyday minimal makeup look, or you can really go all out glam. I will say they do not last through a work shift for me, but that’s asking a lot of any kind of makeup.
What DOES last, and still looks immaculate for 16+ hours are
the Colourpop Jelly Much shadows. I wish there were more colors to choose from, because they’re fabulous!
Off for four days and so relieved, I can’t even begin to say…?
Stay well! ?
I bought the jelly much eye shadow for my daughter and agree they are great.
Enjoy your time off!
I am in excellent company then! They’re so FUN! And we all need to get a bit of that wherever we can find it…?
Enjoy your time off! How is T-Rex doing?
Thanks! She’s doing well. She just finished washing my breakfast plate for me! She such a help with chores…?
The other night I was giving her belly rubs, and she was giving me a nudge with her nose when I stopped, and I realized how old she was and seriously, almost started to cry like a toddler. There is nothing better than love and nothing worse than grief. I had to redirect my thoughts stat! ??
But until then, nothing better than love!
I always tell my kitties, “aw, if you had just not missed that little spot, I could have just put the plate back on the shelf!”
I understand that feeling. It is happening to me often! Enjoy to the max her love and the wonderful moments shared together! She is a unique, beautiful companion!
Enjoy your days off! I watched that video you posted this weekend and it is spot on. And sad.
Very.
Enjoy your time off! I forgot about the Elephant, it might still be with you when you go back to work. I’ll have to wear it this week.
No kidding, right? If you want longevity and sillage, I’m pretty sure the elephant is as good as it gets. Hope you thoroughly enjoy it when you decide to spritz. ??
Have ignored eye makeup since the pandemic, but am interested in getting back to it soon. May have to give the LE lurex a shot. Enjoy your down time, you deserve it!
Thanks, Just not having to go to work makes me ecstatic!
I have a “few” of those shadows, and the only thing is to NOT open your eye until fully set. It doesn’t take long, but if you open your eye too soon, it will crease. After it sets, you’re golden! The color I’m enjoying the most is Angelica.
I have not tried anything from Lisa Eldridge but love ColourPop though I haven’t tried the jelly eyeshadows yet. I have had a renewed interest in makeup just this month for some reason after not have much for the past couple years.
I hesitated to try the Jelly Much because I had never sampled in store and I though it seemed a bit hokey. Some of the colors may push boundaries, but if you find a color and finish you like, the performance is outstanding! Highly recommend! The LE shadows are an excellent representation of her style- timeless and elegant. I hope you get your makeup mojo back.??
You smell glorious!
Thanks for sharing the video yesterday, so heartbreaking.
It sure is, especially if you are a patient who suffers because of these issues. ?
I am interested, thanks for the LE report! They look gorgeous, and I was considering getting one- also back to using make up daily. Are they easy to take off?
I think perfume and make up fit in a similar category of bringing aesthetic joy to the day and allowing for self expression. I have been indulging in a few lovely eyeshadows lately that don’t hurt my sensitive eyes (Suqqu- a Japanese brand- and Dior) and it’s a nice ritual to pick what colour to use every morning!
They come off easily with cleanser or micellar water. You don’t need to tug or rub.
I think you’re spot on with the “bringing aesthetic joy” idea. I never really did much with my eyes before other than the usual mascara and maybe tight lining. But, with the inability to see a persons full face because of masks, it seems to be important (to me) to have a bit of your face for other to focus on while interacting. Eyes say a lot, and I think it helps people connect these days to have good eye contact, and if the first thing that brings their eyes to yours is a lovely eye look (or an outlandish one!), all the better. I hope you try them and enjoy!
I’ve heard good things about Suqqu but I’ve never had access to the brand to explore. Cheers!
Thanks Deva, that’s very good to know! You are right, eyes are important and about the only thing we can pay any attention to nowadays.
I got Suqqu via Selfridges which I think you might access from the United States. There’s so much eyeshadow out there, but this brand got me with their poetic descriptions of their makeup and colour choice inspiration. It’s eyecatching colourful makeup but somehow subtle and understated at the same time… always work-appropriate. Cheers to you and T-Rex!
I didn’t know about Mr. Mugler until I looked at Fragrantica while waiting to get today’s morning drink. I have never been a fan of the fragrances, but it has been years since I tried them. Time to revisit, perhaps. In any case I had already applied Lumiere Blanche.
Haven’t seen that one mentioned in awhile. You smell great!
R.I.P Thierry Mugler. This morning I went to my fragrance net cart and finally ordered Miroir des Majestes. I have Des Joyaux and have wanted Majestes but kept talking myself out it.
Good for you- enjoy your new perfume!
Thanks I will!
Forgot sotd is Angel edp from a slowly evaporating vintage mini.
It only takes a dab.
A very good buy!!I am sure you will love it!The packaging is also beautiful, with the mirrored container inside the box.
??
I’m excited to see it in person!
Yes!!
If you ever want someone to talk you into something you’re trying to talk yourself out of, just give me a ring! ?
I hope it arrives in your mailbox ?!!
It won’t be too soon. Fragrance net usually takes 2 weeks to get to me. I don’t mind though.
Yay for your purchase! I have not tried either of those but will check out the notes.
I have so many perfumes in various carts. I’m glad to have purchased at least one of them!
Great choice; smells wonderful and the presentation is very exciting!
I had to go for it. I have a feeling a lot of the discontinued one’s will be going up in price.
Yay! If anyone deserves a perfume splurge, it’s you. It’s gonna be super exciting to hear about when that particular Mugler perfume shows up!
Aww thanks! You deserve a splurge yourself birthday girl?
Congratulations on your new bottle, the Miroir series was so good.
Hi all and happy Monday! It’s been a while since I’ve posted.
My SOTD is Angel Liqueur de Parfum 2009, in honor of Mugler, one of my favorite designers, I adored his theatrical creations. I own several of his perfumes, Angel, Alien, Mugler Cologne, and Alien Liqueur de Parfum 2009 are faves. I wish I could get my hands on more Alien liqueur de Parfum 2009….
His Cirque d’Hiver show and Too Funky video collaboration with George Michaels are in my top five productions of all time. The video is a who’s who of iconic fashion models and actors Linda Evangelista, Nadja Auermann, Eva Herzigova, Estelle Hallyday, and Tyra Banks; Julie Numar and María Barranco and performance artists Joey Arias and Lypsinka!
Everyone have a fabulous Monday! I’m off to talk 3.5 miles!
So glad to see you!
😀
Thank you! Glad to be back!
Nice to see you SmokeyToes!
*waves at SmokeyToes*
So nice to “see” you smokeytoes!!???
Glad to see you again SmokeyToes! I was thinking about you last week and hoping everything was ok.
I’m glad to be back, it was a rough go in December/early January. I just needed to be offline and focus on self-care.
I’ve been walking quite a bit. On yesterday’s walk, we saw two African Tortoises. See below. Quite exciting!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CZGbk8rry8n/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Also very happy to *see* you, SmokeyToes!?
Nice to see your post, SmokeyToes!
Howdy to you! And, scritches to THE Smokeytoes’ cheeks. =^v^=
Hello hello! Good to see you here.
Today I am thinking of wearing Bon Bon. I was considering one of my Mugler samples, I will have to decide later on. Will probably stick with my original choice.
Echoing others above, it seems like we have been RIPing way too many people already, and January’s not even over.
For those participating in Friday’s CP, a suggestion: Wear a Chanel. Keira Knightly portrayed Colette in a 2018 film, and Knightly is (one of) the faces of Chanel. I saw the film and liked it. I usually like (almost) anything she is in.
That’s a great idea about Chanel, I was stumped for the CP. I could do a Chanel week easily. I like Keira Knightley too.
Oh thanks for this reminder! That film was so much fun.
Thierry Mugler and Andre Leon Talley both gone within a week and both at 73 yrs old – wow. Huge, towering losses for the fashion industry.
I’ll look for my sample of Angel Muse later today and wear it this week.
SOTD: Akro Dark
Seriously. Talley cannot have been in great health. I don’t know about Mugler.
Judging from his photos, I’m guessing there was steroid use affecting his health. Very sad.
Thierry Mugler and Andre Leon Talley both gone within a week and both at 73 yrs old – wow. Huge, towering losses for the fashion industry.
I’ll look for my sample of Angel Muse later today and wear it this week.
SOTD: Akro Dark
My husband just turned 70 and these 73 year old deaths are kind of freaking me out.
Oh, I don’t blame you. It would freak me out too. Mr. SmokeyToes and I just lost a friend of over 20 years. It’s sobering.
I think I’ll wear Alien Fusion in honor of Mr Mugler today. I will freely admit that I bought it more for the red bottle than the scent, but I still enjoy wearing it.
You will smell wonderful – the bottle did influence me, but that was after the scent kept growing on me. My favorite Mugler scents are Alien and Aura. I love to smell Angel on others, but it is not for me.
Bottle lust is a real thing!
And much cheaper than people lust!?
73 is so young. well, at 68 it’s right around the corner.
no Mugler in the collection. Two meetings off camera in bathrobe.
post shower SOTD will be Smudge.
I’m liking you sartorial acumen today! Smudge is a great name for a perfume!
Yeah. Aging is a mixed bag…
Totally agree: so young! ?
I wish it were possible to turn off the camera at will outside of Zoom!
I wish I were doing meetings in my bathrobe. I’m jealous ha!
Ya know, I’d be too afraid some sort of camera *would* start working – I’d never do an internet meeting unless I was street legal!
I had already put on Memoirs of a Trespasser for a cold snowy day here when I read about Mugler on Fragrantica. Will wear Angel Eau Croisiere tomorrow unless something else calls out.
SOTM is Costes, the perfect light fragrance for a Monday am dentist appointment.
Will it be a crown or root canal? Joining those of you with recent dental issues in solidarity. I am also feeling grateful for good dental care and don’t want to take it for granted.
Love Costes — you smell elegant and unique.
Thank you! Everything Olivia Giacobetti touches…
And so far so good, it looks like it’s “only” going to be a crown 🙂
First time I hear about this fragrance… Must investigate ?
Good to hear that your dentist visit wasn’t too bad today.
#rip Master Mugler
What a force of nature z??✨
I’m in a cloud of Angel today in his honour ??
You smell outstanding.
RIP Thierry Mugler! So many interesting fragrances from his house. I had been in the middle of a J’Adore binge (L’Or on Saturday, Touche de Parfum on Sunday) but I will switch to Mugler out of respect. SOTD is Cuir Impertinent.
Interesting to see some J’Adore being worn! There was very little of it in the discussion last week and that made me wonder what has become of it. And whether anyone is wearing Dior Joy, or Miss Dior Rose n Roses or whatever that recent flanker was…J’Adore is another one that my mother wears beautifully but I’m not sure how old her bottle is. So glad you’ve been enjoying it!
J’Adore is one of my long-time favorites. I own quite a few vintages and variations.
*Happy* Monday!
The day is basically over this side of the globe, but I was in glorious wafts of Mugler Miroir de Majestes today, and am still smelling spectacular at 18:26 pm!It’s such a beautiful fragrance,I really should pull it out more often!
Lillyjo,I am sure you will enjoy it as well!
Here’s hoping for a great week ahead.
XO’s!
You smell wonderful; the beauty of the scent is worthy of the very fun box IMHO!
Yes!The mirrored box inside the box was a complete surprise,I initially thought “boy, this perfume bottle sure is heavy!” Haha!
I’m in NVC Niral.
Have a good week everyone.
You, too — hope your week goes well.
You smell glorious!
You smell wonderful.
Mugler perfumes. I am not sure I have any at the moment. I had a bottle of Womanity that I wore with great enjoyment, but didn’t need to replace. I sent my decant of Supra Floral to someone else recently. I do have a great memory of spending the day with a young perfumer on Penang. His favorite perfume house was Mugler.
Anyway, I am in Mizensir’s Luxury–a Christmas gift from my husband. This perfume is be-u-ti-fulllll.
Someone asked about my recent blind perfume purchases. They were Penhaligon’s Orange Blossom (which has arrived and is very pretty if not terribly cutting-edge) and CdG’s Vogue 125 (someone on NST suggested it as similar to something, etc.). Both were practically free in perfume math, so . . .
I am also waiting on an FB of Boucheron’s Santal de Kandy, which is not a blind buy. I found it for a great price from, of all places, World of Watches. The shipping is taking forever, but customer service assures me it is on its way.
And that my dears, is a perfume wrap.
Shadowing johanob in perfume bottle mishaps— the CdG arrived a little while ago–the perfume box, containing the glass bottle, rattling around in a much larger cardboard shipping box with no cushioning wrap. Needless to say, the cap was cracked off at the top and not a drop of perfume remained. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the yellow and brown leopard spots on the perfume packaging were not intentional! The seller is refunding me and sending a replacement for the same discounted rate, minus shipping costs. Hope it gets packaged better the second time around. In the scheme of disasters, a cracked perfume bottle ranks pretty low. But it is a disappoint none the same (the waste drives me crazy, if I am honest).
Oh dang! Can you smell the perfume? Do you like it? I actually have it in one of my carts right now. It’s such a good price.
I had trouble smelling it, weirdly. So either it is a hot mess of alcohol and whatnot, or I haven’t gotten a good sense of it. My second bottle is supposed to arrive in the next three days—so I can let you know then.
Oh dear…well at least your disaster has an amicable outcome!
I just cut my losses and moved on swiftly, although days later on Instagram someone commented that what I wrote was a “dumpster review”,and how can people trust me,some silly man who spent 5 million(not true…lol) on perfumes. Not one for head-on altercations, especially on the internet,I blocked this person and my profile is set to private.Bloody troll.
Ummm. Say what? Dumpster review? What does that even mean? You got a smashed bottle in the mail of what turned out to smell like cheap juice to you–packaged in a pretentious and unsatisfying sack. And you shared this in a forum where people have to elect to follow you, and can simply elect to unfollow you if they wish?
Life is too short. How can liking or loving a perfume mean anything if you cannot dislike any perfumes?
Oooh. That had the whiff of profundity. I’m dropping the mic 😉 !
ARGH! That’s a shame about your smashed up perfume bottle. You’d think people would know that, DUH, glass breaks!
Hope that the second one arrives intact.
Luxury is gorgeous! You smell lovely. I bought it last year for my birthday as well.
SOTD is La Curie Ossuary. No Muglers, so can’t go that direction. I’m not much for the mainstream lines, I guess. I do remember almost buying A*Men Pure Coffee for my spouse years ago.
Agreed with everyone else that it just seems like the last two months have taken too many people.
Happy Monday!
You smell great! I bought a FB of Ossuary after falling in love with a sample. Such an interesting take on Iris.
Iris? Antennas perk. Adding to sample list. Not sure if you’ll see my response. If so, what is it like?
Just checked the notes and it looks really promising.
I really enjoy it even though I don’t usually gravitate toward “smokey” fragrances. It’s complex and well balanced. I’m curious to hear what you think if you try it.
I like it a lot — but then, I also like smoky fragrances (I tried this one when we were in Tucson, a few years back, because I was in the shop to buy Incendo; then I ordered a bottle of Ossuary when I got home). It’s pretty smoky up front, but settles beautifully into iris.
I’m also curious to hear a report if you try it!
Alien Eau Extraordinaire today.
Trying to build some enthusiasm for this work week…no luck yet but 2nd cup of coffee is imminent! 😉
Finished Over the Garden Wall this weekend and loved it…quite brilliant.
If you find it, send some my way. Mondays are just so, so UGH.
Let me know if you manage to find enthusiasm for the work week! If so I’ll need to do whatever you did to find it. 🙂 You smell great.
Do you mean the miniseries over the garden wall? Or something else? I’m very fond of the miniseries. Hope the coffee is delicious!
Yes, the animated series…I love the music too. 🙂
The music is the best! Such a brilliant series overall!
Some weeks just have to be taken day by day. Hang in there!
i read about Mugler. in the afternoon, very sad. Although most of his scents are not for me.
Wearing Larmes de Desert today and thinking of doing an incense week maybe.
Nice evening walk plus some time on the crosstrainer. Now i am making shakshuka for dinner.
Incense week! Do it. You will smell fabulous, and everyone around you will also benefit.
And, shakshuka! Yummy. Surprisingly delicious for how easy it is to make.
Incense perfumes and January go together so well!
Well, after being back to work on site for just two weeks, I got sick last week. Fever, cough, the whole shebang. I tested but it came back negative thankfully. Regardless, didn’t wear perfume much last week because it irritated my sinuses. Since I’ve been vaxed and my symptoms are gone I was cleared to come back on site today (joy!).
Yesterday was my hub’s birthday so I wore Geisha Noire which he loves. I was going to wear Noir de Noir today for my anniversary (which he also loves haha) but went with Angel Muse instead for Mr. Mugler. I have a few Muglers that I will wear this week.
Happy belated bday to your hubs, and happy anniversary! Must have been very disconcerting to come down with classic covid symptoms. A mixed blessing to return to the office, no doubt.
Happy Anniversary! ???
Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary, KellyC! ?
Happy anniversary, and glad you got better so quickly!
I have only one Mugler — a tiny mini of Angel, about which my sampling notes say “nononono”, so I think I’ll just enjoy looking at the adorable mini without opening it. ? SOTD is Tam Dao EDT, from a not-at-all mini FB. I think Colette would have approved.
Oh, wait — I have a sample of Angel La Rose, provided by the lovely Vee in an impromptu swap a few months ago. Will dab on a bit of that later on in memoriam, after the Tam Dao has faded a little.
Tam Dao followed by Angel La Rose!? You smell extra marvelous today!
Minis are too cute. One I emptied due to concern that I would someday forget its vileness and try again, but my main problem is never remembering that I could in fact wear them if I wanted to.
We kind of enabled each other with Paracelsus, didn’t we? I ended up getting my bottle after you had picked up yours.
Wearing no 5 again today. It’s cold and snowing here and spring can’t come fast enough.
-6°C here and I can’t wait for spring to come too.
You smell lovely, Dawn.
No. 5 sounds perfect for a snowy day!
I read about your weekend trip to the animal shelter. I could never have done that so soon after losing a beloved pet.
Re lemmings, it’s possible to custom order a gold perfume flask ring based on a vintage design:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CI0zt7EFkJ0/
This Instagram account is full of astonishing vintage gold jewelry. ?
Here’s an article about the ring’s designer of the ring, a journalist who became a dealer in vintage gold jewelry:
https://gemgossip.com/q-a-with-shelly-branch-of-particulieres/
I love vintage jewelry, but it’s probably good that I don’t have an Insta account. It would be a rabbit hole from which I’d never return…..
It’s even worse than eBay, because the photos are so enticing!
Thanks for posting. Especially love the pendant necklaces. . . Beautiful items!
So beautiful I had to share!
I don’t have any Mugler scents with me so I’m wearing Chanel No. 19 edt instead.
No. 19 is always acceptable, no matter the occasion.
I wore Alien Eau Luminescente last night when I read about Thierry Mugler. My only other Mugler perfume is Chyprissime, and I wore that just last week. Too soon to wear it again!
I’ve decided on De Profundis, purely for the colour – purple perfume and lavendar dress.
I could spend a week in Cologne, it’s so easy to wear…but it doesn’t really stand up to the weather we’re having right now.
Slowdive today, for its honeyed gentleness after a non-great night’s sleep and a fairly frenzied start to the work week. Bundled my Littles off to school today with some misgivings — we had our first notice of a Covid case in his class last Friday, for an exposure that would have occurred on Tuesday. No symptoms and his weekend rapid test came back negative, so fingers crossed for an uneventful week on that front. It was a frosty bike ride to school this morning at sunrise!
Juggling a million work things at the moment, but I just noticed that they’re all related to care and protection: gearing up to create no-disturbance buffers around bat maternity roosting trees and bird nests, mapping a no-burn-pile zone in an area where hundreds of little coral mushrooms come up each winter and we don’t want to overheat their soil, designing a very careful little prescribed burn to try and bring a miniscule endangered plant back from the brink… It may look and feel like I’m just working-from-couch and pushing a lot of e-paper around, but it’s all in the service of tenderness.
I hope all of you have a tender start to your week! 🙂
I love your description of the tenderness of your work. How wonderful.
I love it too, especially the bat and coral mushroom nurturing! ?
We made a pond in the garden which turned out to be mostly a mosquito pond plus a few dragonflies and water beetles… but the bats started to visit regularly! I love watching them fly past. In French they are called chauve souris (bald mouse ?).
Loved this post, and the spirit of Agape in it!
Wearing my Angel Muse sample in honor of Mugler. Mugler has never been my thing, but he has really shaped fashion and perfumery; I can’t picture the 90s without his contributions. What a loss!
What you you think about Angel Muse?
It’s a very wearable version of Angel for me. I admire the original but it’s a bit much for me, I think I still have bad memories of overspraying it once decades ago! I definitely still recognize the original in Muse though.
I doused myself in Alien Essence Absolue last night in honor of Mr. Mugler, may he rest in peace.
Today I am craving Patchouli, but can’t abide Angel, so I’m in HG Arbolé instead.
You smell great! I had the body balm years ago. It was so decadent.
I should pay some attention to my bottle of that one soon.
It’s been a miserably grey January day, I’ve been fighting it with the cheerful Rose Amazone which I noticed opens up like Kelly Calèche – afterall it’s the same perfumer – but then changes to do its own delightful drydown, I retrieved it from the chest of many perfumes on the balcony where the summer perfumes are but it’s not going back, I am keeping it as it is the perfect antidote to winter.
Like many I was saddened by Thierry Mugler’s death, such a unique, daring talent.
I start craving summer perfumes in winter. I hope you get some sun soon ?
We feel the same, sometimes summer perfumes brighten up a winter day, citrus are especially appealing. Thank you, I’ll let you know if the sun comes back.
I love Kelly Calèche so am very pleased to know this about Rose Amazone, thank you!
It never gets mentioned, yet it’s very elegant, the citrussy opening really reminds me of KC, hope you can sample it at an Hermes counter.
I will try to send the sun your way Aurora! ???
Thank you Jalapeno, I will let you know if it works?, it really was miserable today.
If I’d known, might have worn my one Mugler…Angel Muse. But…I had noticed my Shalimar body lotion so used that after shower and the Eau de Cologne.
So glad I had a good night’s sleep. Saturday night was truly awful…very little and disrupted sleep as well as early wake up. Last night I was reading and had Once Upon a Time..in Hollywood on. I had to hit “record” with only about 20 minutes left because I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I’ve seen it more than once, so didn’t need to stay up.
Glad last night was better sleep for you! Insomnia is the worst.
Testing Diptyque Eau Duelle today.
I am usually not a fan of vanilla perfumes but decided to give this one a go. I was in a bad mood earlier and didn’t want to wear any of my favorite scents 😀
I am not crazy about the opening… We’ll see how it develops.
Happy Monday, everyone!
Diptyque has been hit or miss for me.
Hope your mood is better NinaV!
Good afternoon fellow NSTers!!
I am just wearing my every day combo: Japanese Cherry Blossom lotion + Wild Cherry EdP by Mancera.
It is good to have an every day combo that works 🙂
Foggy and Sunny Monday!
RIP to the Honorable Thich Nhat Hanh.
SOTD: TF Noir Femme – just a spritz.
And we are now in the thick of winter. Sigh. Meeting with the new boss on progress with this new position!
Still going at the hardware store- I finally go to repair my own screen door and bought my own saw & saw horse for kitchen trim work. There are no handy people available- they are all booked up. Some are sick from COVID and need to recuperate. So looks like, once again, your girl is just doing it!
Good luck with the meeting!
You could host a youtube channel or PBS show that showcases your DIY talents…something like The Perfumed Handy Ma’am…but less hokey-sounding than that.
Thank you- the meeting was a success!
And there are so many very talent people out there doing great videos! Only mine will have a perfume of the day! LOL!
Thank you for this Ede – I hadn’t heard of Thich Nhat Hanh or of his death, so I looked him up and am very glad I did. His life and achievements are extraordinary to read about, in the midst of all the bleakness. Thank you.
He was an amazing teacher, a true Bodhisattva right here on Earth.
*virtual hug*
He wrote some wonderful books…many of them.
Thank you for mentioning Thich Nhat Hanh. I hope he is resting blissfully in sukhavati right now. What an extraordinary blessing his life was.
Yes-may he rest in peace and beauty.
I’m wearing Angels’ Share for Thierry Mugler (it’s the closest I can come to his Angel, at least in the name). Too many meetings today. I enjoyed the stepping back from the edge poll (even though most of us were supportive of going full steam ahead with purchases ;D), thanks, Robin.
Oh, I tested this the other day and I can confidently say that you smell very yummy! Have been craving it ever since.
Bleah on all the meetings! I wonder what the plural grouping for a lot of meetings is? Or is there a name for it (that we can say here at NST?)?
Ha – A crapload of meetings? (Like a pod of whales or a murder of crows.)
Or an “aggravation” of meetings?
This!
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/T3Iay1J87x4
I have survived another trip around the sun today. Yep, it’s another birthday! Plan is to order pizza for dinner tonight. Yesterday Mr. Jalapeno and I saw a friend in person for a belated Christmas gift exchange. We hadn’t seen each other since 2019.
SOTD = Divine EdP, from the sample stash. I may get on the TM train later on this week, but today Divine demanded her turn in the spotlight.
PS. Pixel, I appreciate your offer of a couple more samples of the Eau Croisiere as a way to circumvent that perfume lemming. However, I will admit that bottle porn is also a factor with that one. I should re-try the sample I have later on this week to see if the juice is something I could see myself wearing again. A healthy “Like” isn’t the best reason to get more perfume.
Happy Birthday Jalapeno! Hope the pizza will be wonderful and that the year ahead will be good to you.
Thank you DolceVita! The pizza was very tasty, and we have leftovers, so lunch for tomorrow has been taken care of, too. Whoo hoo!
Happy birthday, dear Jalapeno! I hope you’re having a lovely day, and may your next trip around the sun be a good one in every way!
Thanks, Isabella! The sun came out for a while, and the temps weren’t bad today, so I call that a win. ?
Happy birthday, Jalapeno – I hope it’s a great day and a wonderful upcoming year.
Thank you springpansy! BTW, I have a couple samples of Ummagumma in my Sample Stash you could have, if you want to put off getting a bottle of that…
Thanks. I appreciate it. You can find my email address via my gravatar above and I’ll see what I have that I could send in return.
Just to let you know, it might take me a bit of time to get to my Post Office. Hope that won’t be a problem for you.
Happy Birthday you good smelling rocker!?????
From one rocker to another: thanks lillyjo! I shoulda had a beer with that pizza, LOL!
Oh yeah. We had an excellent beer with our pizza last night.
Happy birthday Jalapeño!! ? ??
Thank you Cicely!
Happy birthday!
Thanks cazaubon!
Happy happy birthday, Jalapeno!
Thank you NinaV!
Sending you wishes for a very happy birthday!
Thanks foxbins!
?Happy birthday Jalapeno!?
Thank you madtowngirl!
Happy Birthday, jalapeño! Birthday perfume(s) don’t count so you have a good 5 hours to scratch any itch you may have ?
Thanks hajusuuri! ??? I bought socks today instead of perfume.
Don’t yank my perfumista card!
Happy Birthday! May you have a wonderful year ahead!
Thank you tulipani!
Happy birthday fellow Januarian! 🙂 Wishing you a year health and happiness!
Thank you very much, fellow Januarian!
Happy birthday, Jalapeno! Just let me know if you decide you’d like those samples 🙂
Thanks pixel! Do I have your email?
Happy Birthday Jalapeno! I hope you had a wonderful, relaxing day!
Thank you Petunia!
Happy, happy, happy birthday, Jalapeno! Wishing you another year full of health and lots of scents! ????
Thanks perfumelover67! How are your Mom and Yei doing?
Thanks for asking. They are both kind of stable and waiting for upcoming doctors and vet appointments. Crossing fingers!
A very happy birthday, and hope the pizza is wonderful!
Thank you Robin!
Happiest of belated birthdays Jalapeno!(It’s Tuesday 6am here already, hence belated…haha!)
Hope you had an awesome day and that your next trip around the sun is a fragrant and beautiful one!!
XO’s???
Thanks johanob! That was one good thing about 2021… I smelled pretty darn good most of the time, despite everything!
Happy Birthday Jalapeno! Hope it was great! ????
Thank you socks! It was a nice, low key day, which was exactly what I wanted.
Happy Birthday! ??
Hope you had a spectacular day and this year will be a much easier one.
Thank you AnniePerfumes! Not going to make any predictions about 2022. Not after what happened in 2021, LOL!
Many happy returns Jalapeno. Hope you enjoyed that pizza.
Thanks Aurora! I enjoyed the pizza both yesterday, and today. Leftover pizza can be a great lunch choice. ?
Belated Happy Birthday, Jalapeno! Hope you had a wonderful day. ???
Thank you Gail! Yesterday was a good day.
Just reading this today so happy belated birthday!
Thanks, therabbitsflower! I got an e-card from a friend today, so you’re in great company. ?
Hello everyone, no Muglers in my current collection (an old bottle of Cologne was too thick/fuzzy to keep, and a tiny bottle of Womanity suddenly became became unbearable-such a pity! Such an interesting perfume!) so I have been thinking about Colette perfumes instead. Gigi is one of my favourite musicals (the film I mean) and I think lots of Guerlains could feature this week. First up, Jardin de Bagatelle (there’s a scene near the start where young Gigi is having a riotous time playing in a park) so…some sort of jardin connection there! Colette lived in an apartment in the Palais Royal for many years and the Serge Lutens boutique in Paris is nearby, so that might be another route to take. Wishing you all a peaceful week. We need a break from all the bad and sad news.
I can see how Womanity could become a perfume version of Godzilla.
It did! Such a small bottle overpowered my whole house!!
RIP Mr. Mugler.
Remember when my dryer was making a funny noise? The repairman came and said it is the solenoid in the natural gas valve. He said to go ahead and use the dryer, but the solenoid is wearing out. When it quits working I will have to buy a new dryer, because apparently replacing the part costs almost as much as getting a new one. So, money saved for now. I bought a Dusita Discovery set that arrived on Saturday, or maybe Friday, so I am testing them. So far no must-haves, but I have five to go. High hopes for Splendiris.
I ended up buying Splendiris, Cavatina and Moonlight in Chiangmai. Looking forward to reading your impressions!
Splendiris is my favourite, closely followed by La Douceur de Siam and Anamcara which are the ones I own. The others were interesting (especially Issara and Melodie de l’Amour) but couldn’t see myself wearing them. I thought the lily one (Cavatina) was really well made and might be a lily lover’s dream, but that is not me.
Good luck with the remaining testing!
Glad to hear that you don’t need to replace your clothes dryer just yet. But it’s a bummer to know that it’s coming.
Good(ish) news on the dryer. At the very least you won’t have to buy one under duress and can try to catch one you like on sale.
I picked up the Dusita discovery set (and a promise to buy a FB if I love one of them) as a bday gift for myself, so I’ll be working through it with you. So far I’m three for three on Spendiris, Issara, and Cavatina. At this point I’m kind of hoping some of them are bad (well, not bad, just not for me) or else I’m going to be in trouble.
My favorite Dusita is Splendiris closely followed by Le Pavillon d’Or… Such a great house!
I am sorry to hear of Thierry Mugler passing. I never owned anything of his, but I did admire the original Angel and I liked smelling it on others.
Today my scent was Honour Woman by Amouage from a decant. I am really into white florals now and this tends to happen in the late winter. I guess I’m craving for spring and warm weather, or maybe I find these scents comforting. My other staples these past days are Safanad from Parfums de Marly (another decant running low) which is orange blossom heaven to my nose, and Portrayal Woman. I also have a decant of Jubilation 25 coming through the post… discovering Amouage and liking it!
I’ve tried a few Big White Floral perfumes in the winter, and they usually smell gorgeous. Good choice!
BWF are a great way to combat winter doldrums. Amouage is a great house.
While I do have a Mugler, the (to me) atypical Supral Floral, I was up early to finish my decant of Bois d’Argent. So far am proceeding apace with this perfumed resolution, but it might start getting a lot harder with gone-forever decants. We’ll see…
Bois D’Argent is really lovely. I heard it was reformulated. What hasn’t been. I wonder if it is still good?
Supra Floral was a good one.
Wearing Aura Sensuelle for Mr. Mugler today. This one goes fruity on me such that I get none of the promised gardenia, but that’s OK because I mostly bought it for the iridescent bottle. Finally got myself a bottle of Womaninity from a discounter today. Blind buy, but I’ve always liked his pillars, so I went for it.
Drinking a mix of half snowflake and half chocolate coconut teas for an almond joy(ish) black tea blend.
If you’ve tried the Angel Eau Croisiere fig flanker, then you would sort-of, kind-of have an idea of what Womanity is like.
OK good, then I shan’t be disappointed 🙂
However, I should tell you that what people smell with Womanity is wildly varied. I get spicy figs. Some reviews on Fragrantica talk about cigarette butts and other unpleasant things…
Yup, so I’ve read. :). Curiosity as to how it will turn out on me is part of the appeal. I’m still working from so the only one who can be scandalized is Mr Vee.
I am feeling out of sync as I do not own a single Mugler. I was tempted by Oriental Express but never pulled the trigger.
I was also tempted to try Supra Floral but didn’t get around to it. I admire people who live life on their own terms since I am fairly conservative.
SOTD is 34 Boulevard Saint Germain EDT. I sprayed at 6 AM and can still smell it’s spicy soft scent.
It’s kind of a shame how quickly some of the Mugler perfumes disappeared…
Late to the party but here anyway! This week, I will try to do the CP in somewhat unusual ways!
Today’s is a gender bender.
SOTD = Valentino Uomo
So good I have an accidental BUB! Sorry apsara, no knitted kittehs. Soon!

In other news, and really to hold myself accountable, I had 2 extra trash bags, a box of boxes and a pile of magazines. Onwards! I also found $165 in gift cards (Target, Nordstrom, Chipotle and Barnes & Noble).
I may also have satisfied my itch to try the Amouage attars. A discovery set is available from the brand’s website. ?
Finding gift cards you forgot about is free money!
Wow! You hit the jackpot with both the gift cards, and finding those Amouage attar samples.
Excellent work on the continuing clean-out and a nice reward with finding the gift cards!
Tempted to wear nothing but Jicky all week.
And that wouldn’t be wrong!
Hive five! Also, please report on the attars.
Just found out about Thierry Mugler. RIP. He was a real innovator. Will try to wear Angel Muse tomorrow in his honor. Didn’t put on any fragrance until after supper tonight, but now wafting Iris Ganache from a carefully hoarded decant.
