It's Friday and Christian Dior's birthday (also, International Sweatpants Day, and Dior can help you with that). Our community project for today: wear a Dior fragrance. (This is a repeat from 2014.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in vintage Diorissimo...Eau de Toilette on one arm and Eau de Cologne on the other. They are blending nicely with the paperwhites on my windowsill.
Reminder: 1/28 is Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette's birthday. Do whatever you like with the theme (wear a fragrance inspired by Colette or one of her characters? scent a character? scent Leslie Caron in the movie Gigi? Or wear Guerlain Jicky, which Colette is said to have worn.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is from the Dior Spring-Summer 2020 campaign.
Honestly, isn’t every day sweatpants day now? Robin, you and your paperwhites smell wonderful.
I’m wearing Addict today and I’ll bet I’m not the only one. Happy Friday, NST!
You bet right ringthing!
I’m in my sweatpants right now. 🙂 The last two years have been sweatpants day.
I just remembered that Karl Lagerfeld’s quote: “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.”
I too am in my sweatpants right now 😀
? I loved Andre Leon Tally’s memoir for many reasons, but the insight he gave into Karl Lagerfeld’s world was one of them. Highly recommend it!
Fresh Air on NPR replayed an interview with ALT with Terri Gross this week. Planning to listen to it later.
Alternating with leggings days!
It’s Friday! International sweatpants day is something I can get behind. Although I refuse to wear them out in public. Just can’t do it.
I’m in Dune, my one Dior. I would say this is one of my 10 desert island perfumes, although I haven’t worn it in awhile.
It’s currently -5F outside.? But we have blue skies and sun, so I’m not going to complain. My college daughter goes back to school this weekend, and I’ve promised her lunch at Raising Cane’s today. Yum.
I love Dune, it’s one of the most aptly named fragrances ever. It smells like a desert on an alien world or in a dream.
Twins! We just got a Raising Cane in our town. Is it good?
It’s very good. Really fresh-tasting chicken.
You smell fantastic! And I’m with you on sweatpants not being worn outside the house.
Brrrrrr that’s cold! Hope it gets warmer soon.
I also refuse to wear sweatpants out in public, but I do enjoy wearing them in the privacy of my home 😉
I hope you warmed up a bit!
Enjoy the lunch ?
Hi, twin! I totally agree with you on Dune, but I would say it’s one of my 5 desert island perfumes! Enjoy your lunch with your daughter!
Yeeeeeeeeeek! That’s STUPID cold! ?
Hello all!
Jicky and I are enjoying some lovely chilly weather. I couldn’t quite decide on what to wear, so I pulled out my Tendre Poison. Lovely round floral with a sensuous honey base. While I wish they still made this, I can’t imagine what they would have done to it in the intervening years.
Stay safe everyone!
Oh we are twins! I didn’t think I would have one today.
Jicky!
Wishing you and Jicky a lovely weekend ?
I’m in Cuir Cannage, from a mini that I had thought lost forever in the wilderness of my bedroom. However, the lost was found and I am wearing it. It is my favorite of the Dior fragrances that I have worn this week.
It’s a beauty!I remember it being very high on my wishlist when it was just released, but I never actually bought it for some reason. So easily distracted…lol.
Cuir Cannage is so beautiful — I will likely switch to that after a shower. But right now I’m in Gris Dior on one wrist and Gris Montaigne on the other because you mentioned it/them yesterday. Aside from the color of the juice, I honestly can’t detect much difference between them. And the color thing might be due to the age of my GM decant — it’s a very light, slightly cloudy amber color, while the newer GD is pale pink.
Yay for finding a lost perfume!
I haven’t been participating in the Community Projects too much lately because I’ve been ferrying folks to scent-barring medical offices so often. Today should be appointment-free,so I am also wearing Diorissimo.
So glad you could join in — hey twin!
Happy Friyay!
SOTD!Dior Mitzah. It’s one of 5 I have from the original private collection, the others are Oud Ispahan,Eau Noire,Cologne Blanche and La Colle Noir.Mitzah is so beautiful,I read it as a spicy woody amber.Just gorgeous, and works well in today’s heat!
I have a pretty extensive Dior collection,I do think most of what they did in the early days are spectacular.Poison will always be a favorite, and I am grateful for the vintage Diorissimo which I found in a dusty old apothecary shop many many moons ago.We are a great-smelling bunch today!
XO’s
Oh my word…Rest in peace Meat Loaf…what an epic voice!??
I know.. I am very sad.
Mourning Meat Loaf too. He was so influential for my teenage self.
I horrified my older husband this morning by singing half of Paradise by the Dashboard Light, he was married when I was in high school and didn’t have the Meatloaf experience.
Yeah. One of my local radio stations played a lot of his music today, as a memorial.
You smell great!
I’m joining the Doirissimo crew today in the EDT, thanks to a swap with socks a few months ago. We all smell beautiful!
I haven’t made my pot of tea yet, but F&M Christmas tea is calling my name this morning.
Happy Friday all!
Nice tea! I like the green version a little better than the black tea but all F&M tea is good!
And I had a cup of Upton Christmas tea first thing 🙂
I’ll have to try the Upton Christmas. My new nighttime tea is a combo of the bagged Twinings Christmas and bagged Tazo Joy. Tasty — and more important, not too complicated for Mr. Vee to concoct if I am on the couch, covered in kitties. 🙂
The upton is clove heavy. I like it but I also tend to drink it half / half with a plain black tea.
Hi Vee! Glad you like it! I’m wearing some too today ?
You smell like Spring in the middle of Winter.
I meant to wear Bois d’Argent today, but the Oud Ispahan that I put on yestereve is still hanging on. I didn’t remember that it was this strong! So Oud Ispahan it is. Happy Friday, all!
Not to worry – I have put on enough Bois d’Argent for two…
Oud Ispahan is nuclear.
Yes it is!
I am celebrating sweatpants day in style–or lack thereof! It is so cold, and all my leggings are in the wash, so I am wearing pajama pants UNDER my sweatpants. Good thing there is only one other person in the office.
Wearing vintage Poison. I love it! I wore some after my shower last night as well, and the tween (just like her dad) HATED it. I tried to explain that it was vintage! Dior! And the exact smell of 1985! And they were not having it…
Also dealing with some troubling medical news today. I think 2022 is going to be a tough year.
Missionista, love the pj pants under sweatpants! I hope the medical news improves and that 2022 will turn out better than you think. ♥
Missionista, everything springpansy said. And my banker father wore pj pants under his suits every day in the winter.
?
Love this!
Hoping that 2022 brings help from unexpected places to support you in dealing with the medical news:)
Missionista, I am thinking of you and wishing you strength and hope for the year. Big hug.
I hope the news will end up not as troubling as they are now for you!!
Your pajama pants story reminds me of the Ramona novels – in one, she gets these super cozy new pajamas and secretly wears them under her pants to school and gets so hot…loved reading the Ramona stories to my kids!
Longjohns under sweatpants for the win. :-). Sending you lots of positive vibes as you deal with the medical news. May it turn out better than you expect.
So sorry misssionista.
Joining others in wishing you strength, missionista, and a better 2022 than you expect ♥️
I am wishing you the best missionista.
My husband dislikes most anything vintage.
Sorry about your medical news. Hope your year goes smoother than imagined.
Love your perfume! And wishing you all the best for the year ahead (and hopes for better news than what it looks like at present)
Adding my wishes that 2022 turns out better than initially expected and sending a big ? along with positive energies.
Joining you in vintage Poison today. We smell great!
I am also hoping that the medical issues work themselves out quickly.
I am so sorry missionisata. Sending you warm hugs.
Sorry to hear this, missionista. Wishing you well. ❤️
Sending you thoughts of strength and endurance, to deal with whatever comes down the pike for you.
Dior day 5, and what could it be but vintage Poison esprit de parfum, the original and best? I have a mini which is miraculously intact: the top is going just a little haywire but you’d hardly notice. Yeah, it projects a lot, but it’s gorgeously rich and complex, a genius composition.
Yep, major points!
You smell wonderful – I will probably do Poison esprit tomorrow, because it was so hard to decided between it and two others for today.
I have an esprit atomizer (which included 2 refills) many moons ago – the green one. My father in law asked me what was on my list for Christmas that year, and of course it was Poison. I still have the empty atomizer at home that I huff from time to time. You smell amazing!
I’m joining in with Diorissimo – a decant sent to me back in the heady days of makeupalley swapping, circa 2005 or so. Not truly vintage, but really vintage is all relative, right? Things have to be pretty old to seem vintage to me!
We’re supposed to get a break for a few days from all the rain we’ve had so I will head out for a long walk later, which makes me think of SmokeyToes (“shoes on and out the door”) — hope she is well and out walking! Happy FriYAY, all.
You smell simply divine and have inspired me to put on my Dior, shoes and get out the door for a walk!
Yay – Dior and a walk! Add wine with a friend and it doesn’t get any better.
I see her posting on IG with her healthy meals. I miss her here though!
Thanks — good to hear.
Good to know! Thanks for checking, H!
Same with missing SmokeyToes!
I found a sample of Grand Bal, sprayed it and disliked it. Its much too flowery for my taste. I think i will now spray something nicer over this, thankfully its not a strong scent. Maybe something mild, because i got a headache now. Will do a nice walk outside, maybe this will help .
Ugh, sorry about the headache tannina!
I hope your headache went away!
Wearing Dior Oud Ispahan. I love to wear it on very cold days like today.
Thank you for all your comnents yesterday. The plans to have just cookies and coffee with the rude, unannounced family members this coming Saturday, at my younger sister’s apartment were abruptly canceled late last night when my sister saw pictures in my cousin’s FB, where none of them were wearing masks anywhere they went, especially in the subway. That was “the final straw that broke the camel’s back.” We are relieved that the stress and upset feelings are now over since we are not meeting them. I read all your comments to Mom last night. I think they make her feel better about the cancelation and the risks we were all going to be exposed to. Besides, as you all said, with Covid or not, unexpected, unannounced visits are unacceptable and never welcome.
On my second cup of coffee with a couple of shortbread cookies.
Happy Friday, everyone! ?
So glad you were able to get out from under the obligation to see them. That sounds like a huge relief.
It is a huge relief. Looking forward now to a more relaxing weekend!
How ironic — for the first time ever I am thinking thank goodness for FB! ? Very happy that your sister saw the pics before, and not after, the gathering.
LOL! I don’t have FB, but I am pretty happy my sister does! She was pretty curious about their activities here before asking them to gather.
So glad everything worked out for you and especially your mom.
Thank you, ringthing! I am so glad, my mother is safer now!
Thank goodness! There’s no excuse whatsoever for not wearing a mask while in mass transit territory. Good on your sister for checking FB. I have FB and have not posted anything – I basically read what’s up with people when I get notification and I don’t get every notification because that would flood my email even more.
Well that’s a good outcome! Now you can relax and enjoy your weekend.
Wow. Glad that worked out.
What a relief to see this, and what a painless resolution for you. I am so glad that you were able to share the comments with your mother, I hope she found that interesting and a good support to you both in this family dilemma. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Oh good, I am glad that you don’t have to dread the weekend anymore! Hope it’s a relaxing one ?
I’m glad to hear that stress is over!
Yay. I’m so proud of your sister’s sleuthing and canceling on them. Good for her!
And I’m rolling at my eyes at all their testing when they can’t even wear masks. Where is the logic in that?!
Wow! How relieved you and your family must feel. Your sister really saved what could have been more of a disaster. Flagrantly flauntingly adventures, maskless, (unannounced!) haven’t seen in a zillion years.
So happy your weekend in yours.?
I just got caught up on yesterday’s posts and, wow, what an experience you and your mom had. What we’re they thinking? You certainly made the right decision to cancel; hope your weekend ahead is a little nicer! ?
That is such a relief; great detective work by your sister! And how wonderful that you have shortbread cookies to now enjoy.
Whew! So glad you won’t be dealing with those people any more!
Hello and TGIF!
Sotd is J’adore L’Or and I also sprayed some J’adore hair mist for extra CP points.
Currently drinking hojicha.
Definitely double points! I wish Dior made a really good cream for Diorissimo, that would make me so happy.
Quintuplets with Robin et al in vintage Diorissimo and smelling like heaven. Sadly, the bottle leaked during our last wildfire evacuation and I lost most of it, but still 5ml or so to eke out by droplets and swoon over.
We’re having a big, gusty, east-wind event today — I nearly got knocked over while taking out the recycling — but it’s warm and sweet-smelling outside with the birds singing as they go about their business between hooshings. The wind has cancelled both my plans to do some fieldwork this morning and to take Littles to the beach for fish and chips dinner on the sand (no one wants to eat dinner with a 40 mph wind in their face), alas.
I love watching seagulls fly when the wind is strong. The way they suddenly bank and hurtle-soar with the gusts. I hope you two find somewhere sheltered for alternative fun.
Aw, enjoy what is left! And hope you find a fun indoor dinner plan.
In Saudi Arabia, the Islamic lunar calendar has month called Shawwal.
It translates to lift or carry and the sands will blow almost everyday, essentially reshaping much of the landscape.
I literally could not step outside for days at a time.
SOTD is Dior Tobacolor. I love this one.
Ceaselessly blowing sand sounds like a tremendous challenge to live with! Fortunately, I’ve only had to deal with all the cardboard I’d laid down for sheet mulching in the garden being lifted and carried…
Canceling your plans was a good call. No one likes to get sandblasted!
I’m in Diorella today, which is my only Dior. (Not Diorissimo, which I’d thought it was.) The sample’s vintage (as in, at least 10 years old), and I believe I may have bought vintage Diorella at the time…but that was a long time ago so maybe I’m remembering something else. I haven’t tried this in probably 9 years, and I’m liking it, though it’s similar enough to a couple of other bottles I have that I doubt I’d go for a FB.
More high school admissions fun today, with the tween on an online “in-person” assessment for one of the private schools. I love that they schedule this while the kids are supposed to be learning in their own schools, and that she is required to be shut in my office alone while I’m supposed to be on work meetings. (Grumble, grumble.) Oh well, one more of these assessments next week, and then we just wait for decisions at the end of February. (We’re already out of the running at our fourth-choice school, but that saved us the pain of her having to take another test; other kids in her class have gotten decisions already, so I think it’s becoming real to her and she’s starting to get stressed out.)
I really like this one! Got a bottle last year and couldn’t say what it smells like but I do enjoy wearing it. So sorry to see that this school headache is continuing, and wishing you and your tween all the strength and clarity of perspective that you both need to get through this.
So sorry for all the stress, and hope she will get the placement she wants!
Life is still tough without Jake and in Diorling. Still kicking myself by not getting a bottle before Dior discontinued this.
Hugs Dawn, it’s hard to lose a friend.
More hugs and joining you in perfume regrets – all the fragrances that got away!
More hugs added.
I am so sorry about Jake.
Give yourself time. I still miss my wonderful dog friend that we lost in 2020, but the pain has eased.
It takes a long time to get over the loss of a furry friend. Be gentle with yourself. Hugs.
Hugs… and give yourself plenty of time to miss your furry.
Dior still sells Diorling in France. Suzan from ShopFranceInc can get it for you (I have a bottle on the way from her).
Sending you some hugs too! I’m so sorry you lost your buddy.
I also think you should give yourself time to miss your furry friend… I am very sorry for your loss.
Dawn, I agree that you should give yourself a long time to grieve for a pet. I am sure Jake gave you so much cheer during his life!
My deepest sympathy on the sudden loss of your beloved furbaby. ?
Dawn.? Big hug.
I’m so sorry about Jake. Losing a pet is so, so hard.
Be kind to yourself Dawn, and don’t rush things.
Sotd is Original Miss Dior Parfum. I’m going to smell very fancy on my walk.
Yes, you are ?
You will smell fabulous – I went round and round trying to decide among “real” Miss Dior, Poison, and Diorissimo!
You smell great!
Miss Dior makes me sit up straighter 🙂
I’m going to try to get back in a NST routine. I miss reading about everyone’s SOTD and what’s going on. When I saw it was Dior week I decided it was time to jump back in – with Dune. Doesn’t smell like anything else I own!
Twins in Dune and twins for trying to get back to posting more often!
I can’t think of anything that smells similar to Dune. As far as I know no other brand jumped on Dunes bandwagon.
That’s such a good point! I have a Guerlain Shalimar thingy-one of the Souffles-and it’s the only perfume I have ever come across that has even a hint of Dune (from what I remember of it, from decades ago), but only when I sniff the bottle, not from the actual sprayed perfume. (Did I really buy a Shalimar flanker just to sniff the sprayer? Woah ?)
We are Dune quadruplets now!
Dune is fabulous – and has a good memory for me, in that my Mother, who was loyal to just one or two scents for most of her life, once stopped what she was doing and told me how good it smelled when I sprayed some on near her! <3
Hi there! Good to see you posting! ?
You smell mahvelous!
Not on project. Wearing Milk of Flowers which is a good traveling companion for my flight later today
Safe travels!
Good luck with your flight!
Saturday, and my son is taking me to the movies after breakfast. First to see Spencer ( which I’m not that interested in, subject wise – though I probably would have said the same about Jacquie, by the same director, which I liked) and then, after lunch, Nightmare Alley, which is probably more my thing. There will probably be ten people in the audience and everyone has to be masked and double vaccinated ( still no Covid down here, yet). To tell the truth, I’m not in the mood for two movies ( feels like a chore today) and would rather just potter around and go for a walk. Wearing La Dolce Vita to get me up and over.
You smell great! Hopefully you will have time for a walk at some point today. I love my daily afternoon walks with Mila to the ocean lookout point. We sit in the sun on a log and enjoy the view and breeze.
Beautiful perfume choice! I liked Spencer a great deal (no interest in royalty) – had an excellent discussion with Mr Dolce about it afterwards, in terms of the state of mind of the character and where and how much sympathy the film had for her. Quite like Jackie in that regard I guess. Hope the day goes well for you.
I hope you end up enjoying the movie’s. You smell perfect ?
I would SO love to go to a movie! I have not been since 2019.
But also I always say I would love to do something , and then when it’s time to do whatever it is, I would much rather potter around 🙂
Lol,we are totally twins regarding this behavior!!It always sounds fun in theory, and then…plus I’m the king of procrastination so there’s that…haha!
I’m commando since I’m at the eye MD for annual (last time was three years ago ?) eye exam and new contacts.
So, this has nothing to do with perfume, so you may want to skip it, but it was QUITE entertaining!
After getting an appointment, you are sent via text a whole SLEW of questions to answer, including very personal info, which has nothing to do with eye care. For example, are you straight/gay/other, what are your pronouns, do you have a gun in your household, what is your annual income….I bypassed most of those questions because it has nothing to do with an eye exam. When I ARRIVED, I was told I “had to complete the questionnaire in order to be seen.”
Okay, I’m not a complete jerk and filled everything out, although I felt a bit disgruntled about it. I had to use my phone to scan a thingy (Q code I think) and follow the pop up link, then answer a bunch of questions. You had to answer every question or it would not move forward. The lady in front of me had a conniption fit! She had to have help to do any and all the “paperwork” on the their iPad, because she couldn’t see the questions and couldn’t figure out how to scroll, enter, type, etc. This held the line up for a good ten minutes until they sent out another receptionist to assist with the line. Not sure if that lady was ever seen, but there were 4 people in line and if this “technology” was supposed to speed up care, it had the opposite effect. Plus, what do people who don’t have smart phones do? They have to use the facilities iPad and hold up the entire line I guess…so ridiculous. Technology has gotten to the point in some cases that it actually hinders care.
Anyway, rant over! I will apply something warm and soothing as soon as I get out of here.
Wow, that’s extreme!
Very!
When I get asked questions unrelated to my reason for having to fill out a questionnaire, I lie. I cannot tell you how many times I have used Harry Potter’s birthday when a site just wants to know I am over 18.
Oh, I feel vindicated because I lied too! ?
LOL
Funny about the weapons question. I only recall that from kids appointments to assess risk for them. Maybe it’s because it’s an eye exam??? 🙂 🙂
My aim is (used to be) spot on!
That is so ridiculous and over the top! I would change doctors if forced to go this rigamarole. I would do like Foxbins and lie.
This is the only place I could get in because most offices have waiting lists of great than 3 months, which is how long I’ll be here..!
Totally ridiculous! If it was something I could wait for I would have left. In the past, if I couldn’t skip a question I have lied.
I need new contacts pretty bad, so I sucked it up. I was going to say something about it to the MD, but they have no power over this kind of BS either. They’re in a huge practice and have to toe the line…
Wow, talk about making a simple task overly complicated, huh?! Reminds me of my friend telling me that the coin laundry in her apartment complex has now been replaced by tablet-operated machines that will text you when your laundry is done. I do see the convenience of this, but she was rightly very concerned for the less tech-savvy folks.
That’s just crazy! I’m pretty sure most people can tell time well enough to get their laundry when it’s done washing/drying. They probably increased to cost of doing laundry to pay for that stupid program, which will probably be nonfunctional in less than a year…?
Like WHATTTTT….We have 10 standard eye-related questions plus 5 on covid,and that’s it.So stupid.
And the really crazy thing?! They didn’t ask me a SINGLE QUESTION about vision history! So I had to TELL the MD when she came about having a repair of a retinal detachment, having an IOL, cataract removal, etc—! So STUPID! ??
Oh, I do appreciate the extra stupidity!
Wow, that’s a bizarre story if I ever heard one! Glad you managed to figure out a way to get through it.
A perfumed high five for your rant.
Of course, a fair number of patients seeking to see an Opthamologist will have visual problems which would make such forms problematic.
I can see asking people what pronouns they use, so each is respectfully addressed.
But there is no reason for a medical record to ask about income, sexual habits for an eye exam etc. this is especially inappropriate since medical records can be shared for various purposes, especially for patients who sign the disclosure waiver .
No way!?
“Yes. Lots of Nerf guns everywhere.” “My sex life? Great! Thanks for asking!” O sexuality.
It makes me so nervous when a line is forming behind me.
Kudos! You survived!
That is totally nuts. Yes, I also lie on a lot of that stuff when I have to answer it online, if it’s clear that it has nothing to do with what I’m trying to achieve.
Seriously, though, I work in a financial institution and we have to prove that we have a very, very solid business reason before we can ask for any personally identifiable information. We don’t need to know your sexuality to give you a mortgage, so we’re not allowed to ask it. (And rightly so!) How on earth would that knowledge help with your eye exam?
Some of that stuff they were asking for is utter horse ?!
Fulling executing sweatpants day–mine are from Athleta, olive green, and hardly stained.
As for Dior, I couldn’t find my decant of Mitzah (and I really worked hard just now not to type ‘mitzvah’–which would be an excellent name for a perfume!) and I wasn’t up for Jasmin des Anges, of which I only have a decant–not an FB. It seems Dior is really not well represented in the OF household.
So, naturally, I am wearing Laudano Nero today. Amber, incense, cognac. . . a warming perfume if there ever was one.
LOL at “hardly stained!”
Me too! 😀
I wore Athleta sweatpant-ish pants this morning to the dog park! Pants Twins!
I always think of mitzvah when I see mitzah as well. 😉
‘International grime, sauce and cooking oil splattered sweatpants day’ originated here. Aspirational, as always, OF!
Well, yours sound rather more fun than mine. I think the aspirational aspect may be mutual.
Oh. Did you mean that, naturally, I would be wishing to aspire to your level of grime and sauce? Well, now I’ve put my foot in it–or am I, to use a better metaphor, lost in the sauce? Either way, I am happy as a clam (in butter sauce of course).
And now I will shut up.
As a fully stained ( and dog-haired) member of the community I aspire to be hardly stained.
That would be the best kind of SP’s, *chortle,* snort; can only compete by mentioning I have a pair that is more that 25 years old that I wear every winter.
Wearing Fève Délicieuse from the Dior Privée line. I found a mini dabber bottle in my stash, seemingly forgotten. My only other choices would have been Ambre Nuit and Eau Sauvage and I was not in the mood for either.
I’m looking at the notes on Fragrantica and quite a few are listed but all I can smell is spicy (cinnamon?) and boozy vanilla. Not bad for a chilly day.
Wishing you all a nice weekend!
You smell wonderful!
Thank you Cazaubon!
Those notes sound pretty darn good to me!
That sounds perfect for chilly winter weather!
It turns out I don’t have any Dior since my beloved vintage Miss Dior evaporated on me, so I am wearing Shalimar today. if Guerlain day every rolls around I am well prepared.
And I’m sure it will roll around again eventually 🙂
Home sick but comforted by Dior Homme, pajama pants and the perfectly terrible Sex and the City reboot. I just tried to do some work but got too dizzy, so I guess I have to keep binge-watching!
Happy weekend, everyone.
Hope you feel better soon!
Sorry to hear you’re still unwell with whatever this is but hope you feel much better soon (and the work can wait. It has to- otherwise you can never get well! Your students were given some slack for the semester and their make-up work/grades – I might not be describing this correctly but I remember you mentioned that earlier this week – and the same leeway needs to be shown to teachers/faculty! Sending hugs).
You are correct, and thank you for this reminder!
I used to teach…it has taken me years to see that I had some right to protecting my health and happiness. The system will keep taking it out of you – and it is so hard to see that when you are in it. You have a duty to yourself as well as to your students! Wishing you all the best!
It is perfectly terrible! Lol. I am 2 episodes behind but will catch up this weekend. Stay resting!
Dizzy spells are no fun, hope you feel better soon and do be careful!
Hope you feel better this weekend!
Hope you feel better soon!
Dizzy spells are perfectly horrible. Sorry to hear you are going thru that.
VIntage Diorissimo is one of my true loves, but today I am wearing vintage Miss Dior EDT in honor of the woman for whom it was named, Christian Dior’s sister Catherine. I had no idea of her heroism until I read reviews this fall of Justine Picardie’s 2021 book about her, and her history as a member of the French Resistance and prisoner of the Nazis. Short excerpt here: https://lithub.com/was-it-i-who-came-back-home-on-the-return-of-catherine-dior-and-other-survivors-of-ravensbruck/.
Thanks for the link, Old Herbaceous.
And, of course, you smell great!
Thanks!
Happy Friday!
I was planning on wearing J’Adore, from a mini that I found this week, but since yesterday’s post about FM Rose Tonnerre I’ve been craving Une Rose ?
So I am in Une Rose today and I love it! I think the combination of this simple name and the fragrance with such a strong character was brilliant. And I am still thinking of buying a bottle with the old name – I just can’t trust them that the juice hasn’t changed ?
My February budget is already getting complicated. Oh well… ?
Have a great weekend, all!
I hope you can get an old bottle.
It’s such a good name. Silly It’s being changed.
Good luck finding one of the older La Rose bottles!?
You smell great!
I am twins with PriscillaE in Cuir Cannage, such a beauty. My new mattress is wonderful, I had apparently been sleeping in a ditch on my old mattress. I slept almost 10 hours, and I never do that, but I was so comfy.
Yay for the new mattress and getting a good night’s sleep!
You smell great! Glad to hear the mattress is comfy.
Might I ask what type/brand your new mattress is?
I bought a Novaform Serafina Pearl Gel foam in medium firmness. Costco sells them.
In Dune, my one and only Dior. I don’t wear this often, but every time I do, I really like it! It doesn’t not read sand/beach/ocean/desert to me at all, though.
It doesn’t smell beachy to me either. I think it’s more like the sci fi book, as the opening is so weird.
I like it best in winter.
Sometimes I get salty sea air from the rocky Atlantic seacoast, and sometimes I get desert sand. IMO winter suits it best.
you’re all very insightful!! I do agree re. winter for sure! Nothing summery about Dune.
I love Dune so much. It’s so dark and bizarre. Nothing like its old print ads used to suggest, with all those calm sandy landscapes!
Dune and Gucci Rush are 2 of the strangest mainstream perfumes ever made. And that’s a Good Thing!
With much trepidation, I tried my Tobacolor decant again. Boy this stuff is potent. I only put a couple of spritzes on my wrists, far from my face. So far it’s going okay, will probably not have to scrub. LOL.
Tobacolor is at the top of my “Going to Buy” list. You smell great!
I just had a really craptacular meeting this morning where a stressed person, instead of being happy I am minding the store (my department area), seems annoyed it is still in business. ehaeheh This person has a lot on her plate but still odd to be annoyed w/ the store manager who keeping it going. 😉 Wearing SD Vahina.
After that meeting, I may in indulge in some retail therapy and get a new Chanel lipstick I have had my eye on…Rose Eclatant…a lovely bright red. No affiliation to Temptalia but she does great swatches and reviews…
https://www.temptalia.com/chanel-rose-eclatant-rouge-vie-radiant-rouge-allure-velvet-la-cometes-reviews-swatches/#review-505838
I read too fast and read you got a new chapstick! Lol. So happy it’s a Chanel lipstick!
I love chapstick also! 🙂
Retail therapy is a joy! And only a lipstick? Impressive.
I meant to write the other day, do NOT get rid of the Ligne St. Barthe. It is a gorgeous perfume. I just received my lotion and it is perfection. Maybe, try it later? Just my 10 cents. ?
I am eyeing blushes now too.?
I wondered how the lotion is…good to know.
Enjoy your new treat, you deserve it!
Thank you, Laila!
Yuck. That meeting sounds like a dirty wet blanket splatting over your morning.
Joining the CD project for the first time in a while, wearing Ambre Nuit. I love it, but glad to have a challenge to remind me to wear it.
I’m pea green for all of you wearing Dune! I loved that so much, but only had samples. You ALL smell fantastic. Be well.
You also smell fantastic!
I think it’s often easy/cheap to find? Maybe not anymore?
The Dior website carries in the US… I bought my bottle in-person at Bloomingdale’s in NYC but I had to ask whether they had it!
*Don’t* be afraid of checking good old ‘bay of E.
I remember seeing Dune at UTLA, so if there is a store near you, it might be worth asking about.
Ack, should be ULTA! I swear that I checked that before I hit “Post”!
I am sweatpant-adjacent in joggers today! Hahahahaha. I just couldn’t bring myself to put on real pants this morning when I went to the grocery store.
No CP points for me, I’m in Keiko Mecheri Oliban. Last night I did dab on some vintage Feminite du Bois after all that chatter of Pierre Bourdon and Dolce Vita. It was so glorious! I’m definitely on the lookout for Dolce Vita now, after DolceVita reported that that currently formulation is still very good.
Sorry Tulipani, I replied in the wrong place ☺️
The grocery store is stressful enough these days. No need to add to it by having to put on “real pants”.
?
Hello everyone! Wearing Diorissimo edt today, what a popular choice. My bottle has a funny story attached: around ten years ago I bought it as a gift for a dear aunt (a dedicated Estée Lauder wearer) and that was that. Four years ago another aunt (her sister) gave me a bag of her own things that she thought I might like-scarves, some jewellery, and a bottle of Diorissimo. Yep, the same bottle: unworn by the first aunt, partially worn by the second, and now back in my hands and much-worn by me! I’m switching to Hypnotic Poison for the evening though, to accompany a full face of Dior makeup, a houndstooth jacket and a long grey velvet dress (Christian Dior was very fond of grey apparently, and also used velvet a lot). There will be some cocktails too…This week has been very hard for Mr Dolce so we’re pretending to be at a party in Paris to make it all go away. He’s in Eau Sauvage and pretending to be Alain Delon. Wishing you all a peaceful weekend and some relief from whatever is troubling you!
What a fantastic story and evening plans! Enjoy pretend-Paris!
Thank you Irisjasmine!
Such a great story! Have a great time tonight!
Thanks Lillyjo! This first cocktail is a real treat!
I too love your story. Have a wonderful party tonight!
Thank you adanst! ?
Great story!
The party sounds like a wife really stepping up for her man. Have fun!
❤️ thank you so much AnnieP
Oh I wish some of my gifts would get back in my hands! ? Mostly because some people didn’t deserve them…
Have a great weekend, DolceVita! ?
Thank you NinaV! There just might be a bottle of Joy by Patou in my collection that I had originally given to my mother, that, ahem, made its way back to me…I did ask first though, as I could see she hadn’t been wearing it. When bottles come back they mean even more!
All roads lead to Diorissimo! Have a wonderful soirée ce soir!
Enjoy your imaginary trip, we’ll be on one, too!
I love grey velvet – you will be elegant!
What a fun story of that bottle of Diorissimo coming full circle, it made me chuckle!
Have a great evening!
I enjoyed your story about the wandering/returning perfume bottle!
Oh! Well if you have vintage FdB then I am sure current DV will smell like nothing in comparison – but oh to have vintage FdB! There’s a chance also that my positive associations around DV M make me very forgiving towards to current version- but heck, if you get to try it, do let us know your thoughts!
The temperature has made it to 19 here. With little wind and the sun beating down upon my face like a Led Zeppelin song, it’s not so bad ?
Sotd is Tendre Poison. My all time favorite Dior. I went to 3 grocery stores today chasing the sales. I need a nap!
Just saw that Louie Anderson passed away. R.I.P
I saw that earlier this week. I remember that cartoon series he did a while back.
Loved your sentence about the sun and a Led Zeppelin song! ???
Thanks! I knew you would get it!?
I was in Dolce Vita all day, still going strong, it makes me wish I were in Italy.
Wouldn’t that be nice !
My favorite Dior scents are vintage Miss Dior and vintage Dune. It’s much too cold for Miss Dior today and, although Dune often reminds me of the rocky Atlantic seacoast, I get its desert vibe, too, and the thought of warm golden sands is most welcome in the Midwest midwinter, so Dune is my choice for SOTD.
A serendipitous Dune memory: A few years ago I wore Dune to a concert featuring my favorite Chicago-based cellist/composer to complement the new desert-inspired composition I knew he’d be performing live and one which I’d really enjoyed. Afterwards we hugged and chatted as we usually do. I told him how much I’d enjoyed Desert Sun and, for some unplanned reason, told him I was wearing Dune to honor it. His face brightened in recognition as he told me he knew my fragrance was familiar and that it was his mom’s favorite fragrance. I was delighted at his comment because I love him like a second son, and if I provided a happy moment for him of his mom who lives 5,000 miles away in his native country, it’s small payback for the joy his music has brought to me.
Dune is also a serendipitous choice for today as we will be watching a virtual performance later of another favorite local guitarist/composer, who’s packed up his camper van and headed to the southwest desert where he’ll be performing songs in various locations beginning tonight, all powered by the sun via the solar panels on his van, aka The Music Box. It’s been awhile since we’ve traveled to his performance locations or seen him in person and, as avid campers and music lovers, we are really looking forward to this until we can do both for real!
Wishing everyone a bit of serendipitous happiness ahead this weekend!
I hope the performance will be good, even virtually!
What a great story — really, both stories!
SOTD = Dior Addict
From either a swapped or freebie vintage bottle!

So I am helping someone with his resume. When he first sent it, it was, are you ready for this? – 5 pages long! No. No. And No! I’ve already had three 30-minute sessions with him and yes, he took my advice but still have a ways to go. Yesterday, I happened to come across a company-sponsored event on “Resume Writing”. I provided him with the info and said it would be good for him to attend even though it may not work very well for his time zone. One of the other things I mentioned to him was a comment made by a previous manager who said “You need to be in charge of your own career because no one else will place YOUR career as their first priority.” In any case, I got whining and he also wanted me to find out if it was being recorded and if yes, could I send him a link. I just said “Yes” but I am sure I won’t be searching. If he asks, I will suggest that he searches for it himself. Sometimes, people don’t realize a very good thing even if it smacks them in the face!
writing resumes is hard and tedious. I occasionally have to update mine; it feels very satisfying once it is done but boy – to get there…
Agree 100%. I don’t know how the 5-page version passed a recruiter’s sniff test way back when. He knows I will be brutally honest. Also, if he applies to the job someone recommended, the hiring manager is based in the U.S. and the focus will be on essentially an elevator speech on why he should be considered for the role, not his responsibilities from 2012.
I feel you. My sister is trying to shift into the business world (yet another exhausted, underpaid person in healthcare who has been left holding the bag for everyone else who’s left). She sent me her resume for review recently, and it was 3 pages long and went on at length about her clinical expertise but didn’t mention how many direct reports she’d had at every step or highlight her transferrable management skills. Not gonna fly. I did the first pass, but deferred to her friends on later edits, because it was just too much to revise.
Resume reviewing and writing is one of the most unpleasant things I can think of, and that includes getting a root canal! Last time I wrote one, I was told that 2 pages was the maximum. No exceptions!
Absolutely participating in sweatpants day today and basically every fall or winger day that I spend working from home.
Wearing the gorgeous Dioressence from a 2002 bottle that smells even more vintage than the year indicates. I’ve had fun sleuthing to figure out the dates for this and my 1985 Poison.
Super ready for the weekend and just 4ish more hours of work before I’m free!
You used the same exact word to describe Dioressence that I did in my testing notes: gorgeous!
I’m doing the CP by wearing some generous sprays of Miss Dior Cherie EdP. I have no idea when or where I bought this bottle. It’s really not my usual type of thing–I think of it as a bit sweet and I hate that frou-frou fake silver bow on the top of it. I suspect I bought it once in an airport duty free shop where I was spending too much time bored during a layover. In wearing it, though, both today and yesterday I’ve realized it’s really NOT that sweet. It’s a chypre in fact. I’ve read about it and simply do not get the supposedly weird notes of strawberry and popcorn. I do get mandarin and some light patchouli. It seems it has a complicated history of renaming and reformulation. I can’t tell what vintage mine is, but I’d guess at least 10 years old and maybe more. It has the name on it in silver raised letters, not printed on a white label as most of the ones I’ve seen pictured have. Who knows? This is one good reason to participate in the CP’s. I took this one out of my storage rack just for the project and am wondering why I have put it away all these years!
Someone here passed along a sample of that to me a while back, and I was surprised at how much I liked it.
Joining the many in vintage Diorissimo edt from a houndstooth bottle, probably 1980’s or thereabouts. Simply a life-long love!
Love vintage Diorissimo for combating the March mopes!
I was going to wear Miss Dior “Original” or Diorissimo, but most of my Dior bottles and samples are stashed at the office right now and I’m home today! Instead, I’m wearing Hypnotic Poison, which brings back fond memories of the early 2000s and is perfect for a cold day like today!
You smelled great today Jessica! And it is better for cold weather anyway.
Wearing a local made lotion that smells like Angel. It comes in a pump glass bottle that I will figure out a way to repurpose after. Maybe decorative with sand and shells? Maybe a diffuser?
Went last weekend and, so far, so good. Thank God. I did douse myself with Angel. I could barely smell it, so I kept reapplying. I forgot my sense of smell is coming back, but lightly. Decant and lotion shoved into my purse, too. I must have really poured it on. More than 8 spritzes and constant refreshing! Hajusuuri are you listening?
Thanks Jalapeno for the suggestion!
I’ll put on some Poison later to join the party.
Happy weekend!
Where did you go? So it’s your Angel I tasted a while ago ?!
My mother-in-law.
The Exposed One.
Exposed to Angel!!!
???
???! “Keep calm and spray on!” And on and on and on, it seems. ??
Definitely worth keeping your perfumed heavy hitters close by for the foreseeable future, IMO.
Absolutely, keep those biggies close by!
You were my inspiration! And it is Dior week.?
I’m in 4 sprays of vintage Poison edt. I can’t see a batch code on the bottle but the address is 33, avenue Hoche so I believe it’s after 1991. The juice smells absolutely divine and just what I remember it to be.
You smell awesome. ❤ Poison and very interesting about the batch code.
More sprays, Gail.
Hello NSTers.
Sometimes technology really, really, really sucks. Today I found out that my cell phone had deleted the last voice mail I got from my Mom. I didn’t tell it to do that! ?? Damn devices.
In other news, RIP Meat Loaf. I was going to link to a song of his, but somehow it doesn’t feel right, given the first part of my post.
SOTD = Midnight Poison, from a bottle I came across several years ago on EvilBay after it had been discontinued. It was a lucky blind buy for me.
Sorry about the voicemail. There should be a memory keeper type function for voicemails one wants to keep for posterity! I lost several from my mom as well.
I tried to figure out how to forward that voicemail to my brother but was unsuccessful. Absolutely agree with your suggestion for a memory keeper function!
Jalapeno!
???
So sorry!
I have my father’s last voice mail, too. And text(he just learned)
This sucks.
Can you hear your father’s voice in your head? I hope that makes sense. Whenever I say a phrase my father would, I can hear his voice.
???
My brother sounds just like my Dad did, so when I talk to him, I hear my Dad’s voice. It’s kinda eerie sometimes.
It must be. Also, comforting. Your brother is amazing.
So sorry to hear that! My phone also deleted the last voicemails I had from my aunt who died six years ago. I’d been keeping them and deleting newer messages when I ran out of space, but one day they were just gone. No warning!
My brother was able to email a voicemail he had of my Mom’s to me earlier this evening. His phone is new enough that he can back everything up onto The Cloud. And he does.
I’ve been able to email voicemails to myself with my old iPhone, so that’s what I do when I really want to save one. I’m so sorry that you lost the one from your mom — those tangible reminders of a person are so immensely precious. But glad your brother still had one!
I haven’t switched over to a smartphone yet, so my options were severely limited. But the changeover is coming soon.
I need The Cloud.
My phone lost my texts and photos of my mom. Stupid phones. I’m sorry jalapeno.
Here I will link a Meat Loaf song
https://youtu.be/k5hWWe-ts2s
Your turn to play DJ today!
I’d thought about linking to his singing in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”…
Oh good one!
I did come across another Meat Loaf song I haven’t heard in a dog’s age, though. Might have to go with that one instead.
Oh drat, I’m so sorry.
Popping by later in the morning to say I’m at the hair salon wafting a cloud of Encens Mythique d’Orient. Very sad to read about Meatloaf.
I remember watching a video of some live performance of Meatloaf for the first time. I remember thinking, “Who IS that guy?” He could belt it out! Another passing. I try to seek out some new example of the genre whenever we lose an old one. Who would you recommend as a new old style rocker with a good heart? Sad to say I am loosing track!
SOTD=Diorissimo, Diorissimo, Diorissimo even tho it is not doing well in the very cold air outside, and the not so warm inside here. We have both been so busy, the fire hasn’t been tended as enthusiastically as usual.
Here is to a good weekend, everyone!
As predicted, I chose Cuir Cannage for the CP. I’m in a delicious cloud of scent!
I’m in Diorissimo today, like many of you, but my bottle isn’t vintage. I bought it in 2019 at the airport in either Seoul or Singapore, I can’t remember anymore. That feels like a long time ago, when I did big international trips every year or two! I really miss traveling!!!
Hopefully traveling will become more pleasant in the future. It really isn’t something I want to do now.
I miss traveling too. Sigh.
Late to the game. Non-vintage Diorissimo, although I still have a small vintage decant courtesy of a kind NSTer.
Christmas decorations boxed up, ready to go into the garage. Tree will be taken outside and left in the woods behind our house. In NYC, the building staff would come up, bag it and remove it for us. Maybe the deer will enjoy it.
I noticed a difference with the new tires yesterday. Car rides quieter. My husband and I went to the movies afterward. He saw Nightmare Alley, and I saw The 355, which was mildly entertaining. Would have been better if it maintained more of a sense of humor.
It’s amazing how much of a difference tires can make with the ride of a vehicle!
Very tardy to the Dior party! Wore the original iteration of Dior Homme EDT, still hanging in there today. I purchased this when it first came out from my local Sephora. I think this is the only full bottle I have ever purchased there. I got the little bottle and now I wish I had purchased the larger one. It definitely has a carrot-iris thing going on and is altogether lovely❤️
Very late to the party. Wore J’Adore Voile de Parfum yesterday.
