Monday scent of the day 1/17

Posted by Robin on 17 January 2022 217 Comments

It's Monday and Martin Luther King Day. Birthdays: Benjamin Franklin, Anne Brontë, Betty White, Eartha Kitt. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Ginger Piccante.

Reminder: on 1/21, for Christian Dior's birthday, wear a Dior fragrance (this is a repeat from 2014).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is from the Dior Homme Spring/Summer 2019 Campaign.

    SOTD = PG Felanilla

Love it! I unearthed this while continuing in my quest to clean up slowly but surely.

    I’ll be back later.

In the meantime, here’s my Caturday post where you meet all my knitted kittehs:

I am going to do a week of Juliette has a Gun since Dior is not a perfume house in my fragrance wardrobe.

I feel like the fatigue is subsiding and able to rest a little even though its nearly impossible with two kids.

Started a new book this weekend. Always happy to dive into a new one..

Big 4th for Lands End! They have a crazy amount of size and color options, and yes: no matter WHAT your figure, they have something that will flatter, conceal, or flaunt it, as you may desire (talking women here, but DH’s was good, too.)

Gottex for me — they fit me well (at least, they always have in the past – haven’t checked them out in several years), and they’re very well made. Of course, they’re also a bit spendy … but they do hold up over time.

    Wearing Dior Poison.

I am finally resting today after a crazy, busy week and weekend at work trying to meet a deadline. This week will be another super busy one, and I hope it goes fine and without any issues.

Beautiful sunny day outside after a very rainy night. Having my first cup of coffee with a dash of cardamom and a splash of Irish Cream creamer. Ready to take my mother to some medical tests and then run errands in the afternoon.

    Happy Monday, everyone! ?

Dior week! I could do several of those. Today’s scent is Mitzah, so lovely.

I got my office closet elfa system installed yesterday, woo hoo! Now to populate it. I did some sorting/purging when I emptied the closet, but more needs to be done as I put stuff back.

But first, gotta finally take down the Christmas tree. So busy here!

The tree is now down, finally, and I deserve to slug on the couch the rest of today. Even my feet are tired!

I left the lights up on the wall, I think we may need some winter cheer.

I’m always tempted to leave the lights out all year! So far I’m pleased to have gotten the tree put away but I still have a large wooden bowl out that is full of my most extravagant and fragile glass ornaments. (I can’t hang them on a tree because KITTENS!). I like seeing them and haven’t yet brought myself to pack them away.

We (I) took ours down on Saturday — I like to leave it up for a while with just lights on it after we un-decorate it, and call it our “winter tree.” Wound up being a good workout, as I always saw the branches off and keep the trunk as a trellis pole for the garden

I do the same, though I just use loppers. Actually I lop the branches off inside the house and haul the branches and trunk out separately — easier than trying to get a big dead tree out the door.

I’ll wear Dior later in the week since I only have a few.
I am testing Fox In The Flowerbed by Imaginary Authors since I was gifted the sample set. This is a very pretty honnied white floral. Sheer but still very present.

I got a sample of it at Christmas time. The first time I tried it was Christmas night at my sister’s, and I basically couldn’t smell it (probably too much going on around there, and too many scents). I tried it again just this weekend and liked it, though I found it doesn’t last long (though that may be because it’s not a spray sample).

I’m thinking about ordering a bottle, though, because it’s lovely for the hour it’s on my skin — the nice thing about IA is those affordable small sprays, so I don’t have feel like it has to be the best scent EVER to justify the cost.

I could smell it really well for the first hour. It’s a skin scent now. Nose to wrist. It seems like a easy scent to wear and it’s very pretty. In some odd way, it reminds me of Do Son. Weird, since the notes are different. I detect a slight soapy quality that I also get in Do Son.

I am very clearly too tired as I mis-read that as “pretty hominid white floral.” Chasse Aux Papillons is my go-to pretty hominid white floral — is it anything like?

I haven’t smelled Fox in the Flowerbed yet… but I know what La Chasse smells like and it is floral, maybe even white floral sure. But it has that leathery base reminiscent of a typical L’Artisan leather base.

Hello everyone! Going for a Dior week as well. I don’t have so many bottles but I can do a week. I swapped away a bottle of current Poison a few years ago, hmm, but I have all my mainstream favourites. I haven’t tried many from the Collection Privée line as I was afraid I’d get obsessed with 200mls of something far too costly, but now everything else seems expensive, plus Dior does smaller bottles for this range…well anyway, wearing Eau Fraîche today from a recent bottle and it’s going very nicely with the clear blue sky of this cold but sunny January day.

Oh, and a little quotation for you from Christian Dior’s The Little Dictionary of Fashion (1954): “When I was young, women used much more perfume than they do now and I think that was wonderful and I regret that more women don’t use it lavishly now.” I intend to be lavish this week!

Full CP points in Hypnotic Poison. I thought my vintage bottle was empty but I got a few sprays today ? In the 90s when I was constantly hauling teenagers to the mall, I would always sample HP and couldn’t decide if I liked it or hated it. Then I started to crave it and bought a bottle. Glad for Dior week!

Agreed! 20 years ago I lived in a cloud of this on a daily basis, as one of my close friends at university wore it as her signature. It was years before I felt I could wear it without impersonating her-now it makes me so happy to remember her each time I put it on. It will feature in my choices this week for sure!

Another chilly day in Michigan. Upgrade going with expected number of issues. SOTD=MonPrecieuxNectar, pretty friendly, still wafting in spite of the chilly air and work issues. In 2020 at this time I believe I was getting ready to go to New Orleans, having fun and blissfully unaware of what changes were barreling down upon us. We traveled the last week of January, flew, dined in crowded restaurants, rode in buses, lined up in museums. Wonder when any of that will be possible again?

Dior week…hmm, don’t think I own a single Dior. Except…I might have a sample of Diorissimo stashed somewhere from early in my perfume journey?

I wore Poison in the early ’90s; it was my first “grown up” perfume (I’m not counting the Primo and Liz Claiborne I wore in high school), but I haven’t smelled it in years. I remember buying that bottle quite vividly; I was in university at the time, and bought it at a Base Exchange in Germany. It was the right scent for that moment in my life, and I don’t think I ever wore it after I moved back from Germany. I should go find it and smell it again.

Haven’t figured out a SOTD — need to work out first. Maybe I’ll do Ormonde Jayne week, since I have a sample set from Christmas?

I *might* have 5 Diors, if I count Poison twice (vintage and not). I guess I’ll find out. Today I’m wearing Midnight Poison, which I’m glad I bought when it was launched, because it was not around for very long. I feel as if it’s too simple — I like a lot of complexity in my scents — but what’s there is nice, mostly rose and vanilla and patchouli: can’t go too far wrong with that combination. It’s sort of Poison for Men, tbh.

I’m wearing SHL 777 Taklamakan thanks to a generous and kind NSTer. Is this brand no longer? I’ve heard rumors somewhere about that, can’t remember if it was here or somewhere else..?

Made a giant leap into the 21 Century and subscribed to Netflix. Specifically, wanted to watch The Witcher. I’m a bit disappointed in it, truthfully. I don’t think Henry Cavill is the best actor for this part. Nevertheless, if anyone can recommend good series or movies on Netflix , please let me know.

Tomorrow I’m back at it, and dreading it. No one here wears a mask. (Not trying to get political, just an observation!) Maybe I’ll win the lottery tonight…??

Too hot in bed last night so I dragged the mattress outside and then was plagued by moon trouble. It was incredibly bright, almost full, but cast terrific shadows over the garden. One small advantage (I learned at the weekend ) is that a bright moon washes out the sky a bit, making it difficult to see all the stars. The upside is that it is easier to see the constellations as they are generally brighter, and it is less confusing trying to isolate them once all the other stars are out of the way. So I saw cancer and Leo ( I think!). Another hot day today ( around 25C, that’s all…not 50C or anything crazy). Wearing Diorling, a modern version bought in a thrift shop.

Such a good CP for using all my Diors but today, in a fruity mood I sprayed AS Saturday, a joyous fruity floral I won on NST sometime last year, and tonight I continued with Burberry Black Le Parfum, I fell in love at the airport in 2020, with this more over the top, less elegant and sweeter version of Miss Dior Le Parfum which I shall wear later this week. Their patchouli and Amber notes are very similar to my nose.

I’m probably one of the few folks here who doesn’t own any iteration of Poison in any quantity, but I could stitch together a passable Dior week with Leather Oud, Eau Noire, Eau Sauvage, Dune, and Diorissimo. Alas, I wasn’t in the mood for any of these, so I’m in Vanilla Galante instead.

I only have one Dior I think. Diorissimo. Which I’m not wearing today. My hand reached for a small decant of Samsara.

Tires are in! Just need to schedule the appointment – will check weather forecast, because I prefer to not drive down if weather is sketchy.

Samara is a favorite vintage for me. You smell great.
It’s so nice to drive your car with new tires. The ride feels a little smoother. I had to replace all four tires in December. The car rides better but I could have lived without that expense at that time of year.

Looking forward to Dior CP, but today’s SotD is Sira des Indes, which I finally found in the hoard, lurking behind a big ol’ unboxed bottle of Insolence. Remembering Dr. King, and wanting all to “live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Chilly today, with a Wind Advisory. Yuck. Both cats have been parked on either their kitty cat heating pad or the heat vents today.

SOTD = SSS Incense Pure, day 3. I’m on another perfume monogamy streak, it seems. Thinking about getting a BUB of this one.

Kitty cat heating pad! I didn’t know that existed. They are living the life!

Yep. We originally got it for our old lady cat Jinx (RIP), on the advice of our vet. She was always spending time on the heat vents to stay warm.

The body is made of hard plastic, and the power cord is reinforced with a protective metal spring on the outside. It has an easily removed fleece cover that can be washed if something unfortunate gets on it (like cat barf). The pad itself can get wiped clean in that case.

I used to rent a house with a big O’Keefe and Merritt gas stove with a built-in griddle that was always a bit warm from the pilot light underneath — my cat spent a large amount of time sleeping on the griddle. 🙂

Yikes! I would totally freak if I saw any of my cats even near the stove!

I think I only have two scents by Dior, and I’m saving those for now. Today I’m wearing MFK Amyris. It’s perfectly pleasant but honestly a bit insipid. That man can deliver some dynamite perfumes but I’m afraid some of them are a bit, shall I say, blah? We have another bright sunny but cool (for us) day here, and I have to laugh at how many cats were huddling and cuddling on my bed when I went upstairs just now! Even the cranky ones who snap at other cats are just crowding in for the mutual heat.

Huddling and cuddling with cats in bed is the best ? On a cold night my kitty often comes and politely “asks” me to let her get under covers by touching my face with her paw. Then when she gets in, she curls into a ball of fur glued to my tummy (I sleep on my side) and starts purring. One of the few things I like about winter ?

I completely forgot about CP this morning and I’m wearing Arabie.

I am looking forward to wearing Dior this week. I own no full bottles, but many mini bottles. I bought the discovery set of the Private Collection, and was so thrilled at the time because the SA let me compose my own set of minis based on what she had available.

    Ugh… I am tired.
Early this morning I dabbed on a bit of Dolce Vita. My second favorite Dior. It’s a perfect blend of floral, spice, and sparkle. My mini is almost gone. I would say almost half due to evaporation.

Yes for sure. I will keep my mini bottle once it’s gone too. It’s so pretty.

Very late to the party, but put on Miss Dior le Parfum after I got home. Spicy, rich goodness. Even at home, a tiny spritz to the fingers then dabbed on the neck is plenty. Otherwise it’s overwhelming.

Today’s wonderful SotD was (and still is) B&BW Japanese Cherry Blossom lotion + Mancera Wild Cherry. (The other day I wore some House of Sillage Cherry Garden instead). I looove this combo. This morning when I sat down after applying my lotion and EdP, I felt so cozy, so at home. Yes cherry smell makes me feel right at home. Definitely and for sure and 100% I am in a desperate need for the largest bottle of Wild Cherry.
