Happy Friday and happy Guy Fawkes Day! And a very happy 61st to Tilda Swinton. Our community project for today: wear Like This, or any other Etat Libre d'Orange fragrance, if you have one. If you don't, or if you're not in the mood for Etat Libre d'Orange (or if you just wore Like This for the Pumpkin Spice project), do something else. You could listen to Tilda Swinton read the Rumi poem that inspired the fragrance, and choose something based on that?
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm wearing the first Etat Libre d'Orange fragrance I came across this morning, You or Someone Like You. It does not remind me of Tilda Swinton. If it helps anyone, I was just reminded this morning that she wore Penhaligon's Bluebell for 25 years before she collaborated on Like This.
Reminder: on 11/12 we're doing Dealer's Choice, edition 5...propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I happened to have a discovery set that includes Like This, so I wore it. I am thinking it deserves at least a decant, and I found a decently priced 1oz. bottle on Amazon. Its not my favorite ELDO, but its up there.
It is up there for me too. Sort of brain dead at the moment — it might be my favorite but I can’t remember 🙂
TGIF! Good morning.
Sotd is Like This from my sample box. I was also thinking of You or Someone Like You. Maybe later in the day.
Currently drinking apple green tea with collagen and eating some digestive biscuits with a wedge of brie.
Tonight I am thinking of making beef stew so grocery run this afternoon!
Yum! I love beef stew. I’ve also been craving pot roast lately.?
I just made my first pot roast of the season last week on a cold, rainy day. I bake it in the oven slowly for hours in an onion/mushroom gravy and the house smells so wonderful and warm! Beef stew meat is already waiting its turn in the freezer. ?
Yay! I am thinking pot roast season starts next week.
My simmer on the stove fo me at least two hours season started tonight, and I am very happy as a result!
Yum! That sounds delicious too. When I make pot roast, I do it in the crockpot and make the “Mississippi pot roast.”
Your breakfast sounds wonderful! I have a chuck roast in the freezer; will make stew sometime soon too.
Lots of folks making tasty eats here at NST! ?
Tried Like This ages ago and it wasn’t me, so I randomly grabbed an ELdO from the box of 16 minis and the one I grabbed was Antiheros, a lavender soliflore, nothing prettified about it — serious, fresh-from-the-ground lavender. It’s really great.
That one just made it to my samples-to-get list. Thank you!
I really like Antiheros — might be my favorite lavender. You smell great!
Perks up. Lavender? Will get my hands on some.
I must try this!
Hello from the couch, binge watching The Morning Show with a cappuccino in one hand and biscotti in the other.
I love Swinton but I don’t have the perfume she wears
Love the Morning Show. So many of the characters, I just want to swat and yell, “Snap out of it!” And then I go back and start from the beginning again. 🙂 Cappuccino and biscotti…MMMM.
I am watching the season 1 finale, can’t wait to see how this one wraps up and then I will starts season 2 next week
I need to watch The Morning Show. Sipping an espresso as well.
Enjoy your espresso! I will do an espresso after lunch
I forgot to mention my SOTD Xerjoff’s Ouverture
Notes: Orange, fig leaf, magnolia, Indian jasmine, Bulgarian rose, cinnamon, ylang-ylang, sandalwood, vanilla, amber, cashmere wood, incense.
Wow, that sounds lovely!
It’s perfect for this weather
Sounds so nice! From the few I have sampled, I think Xerjoff has amazing perfumes. My favourite so far was Oesel, which I also enjoy in cold weather.
The two I have tried have staying power for hours What do you think?
Yes, very long lasting. I have two large samples of Oesel and one small spray is enough to smell the day after! That may be why I haven’t bought a bottle yet, I’m still good with my two samples.
I love Tilda, but I am a fail for this cp in Molecule 01.
Friday, FriYAY! Starting the week after thanksgiving I will be saying that on Thursdays. My permanent schedule will be Monday through Thursday.?Feeling so incredibly lucky and grateful.
For those of you that read yesterday, guess what happened to my deodorant as I was using it this morning? Yep, it cracked right off and fell on the floor, lol. Good concept Dove, poor design.
Hooray on the 4 day a week schedule!
Can you return the deodorant due to design fail?
I know! And three day weekends! Woot woot.
Hmm…well I suppose I could. Target is really good about returns. I love the metal container, it’s a shame the design is so poor.?
That’s a great schedule! Sorry about the design fail.
I know! Counting my lucky stars!
Yeah, it is a bummer.
w00t w00t w00t on that 4-day work week! But, argh, what an annoying design/product fail. ? You’d think someone would have tested it before sending it out into the Wide World.
I’m wearing Putain des Palaces, which probably isn’t a very Swinton-ish scent but it is ELDO.
You know, that one wore so discreetly on me earlier this week that I can see one of her outwardly-respectable characters in it, rebelling quietly through the perfume’s name…maybe her character in Michael Clayton, or even I Am Love?
Sprayed from a bottle it is not discreet (on me.) It’s a little bit raunchy with a violet note that I quite like. I’d pair it with Orlando, for the costumes and setting.
Ooh, lucky you! Far too many of my perfumes are discreet.
ELDO I Am Trash sample – my only ELDO. It’s pleasant (and a bit shampoo-y as we discussed yesterday) but not bottle worthy and also not something I would think of Tilda wearing. I really wanted to like Like This, but it was all immortelle, all the time on me and I needed more notes.
Exercise today: some Barre, some weights
Breakfast: oats with blueberries — and later, TOAST with my homemade strawberry freezer jam 🙂
Baking project: Lemon Bars with Pistachios (an NYT recipe)
Love the workout! I did a little Barre yesterday also, with bands and the ring. It’s always surprising to me how Barre hits the hard to reach ‘in-between’ muscles. I may pull out my CD later today for yoga.
Your baking project sounds fabulous!
Barre is good stuff. I’ll be sore tomorrow!
I just finished my Barre workout (The Barre Method CD), I’ll be a tad tender tomorrow. 😉
Hello everyone! Began the day in a sample of ELdO She Was An Anomaly but it disappeared into pleasant nothingness after an hour, so now in Chanel No. 5. This picture is from one of my favourite Swinton films, and I would match her character with Acqua de Parma Iris Nobile, for the first half of the film at least…Wishing you all a beautiful day.
Yes, iris would suit the first half and the second half would be oh, Carnal Flower?
It is one of my favorites too, but the truth is I have not seen all that many of her films. I just like her, I don’t know why. Maybe it helps that I have not seen them all, who knows.
Love Swinton. Love Rumi. Guess I better go get some ELDO samples, of which I have none…TGIF!!!
SOTD = Gissah Miral, a vaguely floral and very oudy but smooth oud, which I enjoy wearing more and more the colder it gets.
TGIF – I am wiped out by the excitements of the week…
I am majorly wiped out myself. Have so much to do this weekend that it won’t help. I am looking forward to the week after Thanksgiving, when I will be very unbusy.
Robin, thank you for the 10 best films link! I’ve seen exactly none of them, so glad to have the list. ?
I’m in probably my favorite ELDO, Rossy Eau de Protection. Love this take no prisoners rose. ???
It’s 52 degrees out there and a balmy 75 degrees in here. I’m sweating, hubster is cold. Let the thermostat quibble-chatter begin! ?
We have had our annual chatter about how to use the (electric) radiators more efficiently and should we supplement with forced air and is there a way to lower the heat bill, etc. The biggest issue here is that it can be 50 one day and 70 the next, and if it’s sunny, our apartment gets really hot midday. It’s not the ideal climate for radiant heat though one supposes it’s what everyone had for a century or so. But we both hate forced air, so now begins the fussing with dials and checking overnight temps obsessively. And then being either too hot or too cold.
Your husband would be toasty & comfy here where the year-round indoor temp is 77. I’m super cold-sensitive and my husband has adapted. He even complained about the cold before I’d turned the radiators on the other night!
We can have wild fluctuations in temperatures too, so I sympathize with you. It’s supposed to hit 80 here on Tuesday. How’s about getting a duplex and each spouse gets his/her own space and thermostat? I’m only slightly kidding. ?
Lol. Yep, the debate has begun here. My hubs standard line is “it’s so hot in here!” We keep it at 65? and I live in layers of wool.
I really want to try his now after seeing some positive mentions of it here this week!
That may be my favorite ELDO.
It’s running neck and neck with Remarkable People, Fat Electrician and Fils.
and with Roland Mouret Une Amourette, and Someone Like You, and Jasmin et Cigarette, and . . . 🙂
I adore Eau de Protection and was going to wear it, but I thought it would be more fun to just grab one at random from the box (as long as it wasn’t the unwearable Sécretions Magnifiques — I don’t why I haven’t thrown it out).
Keep as a reference maybe? I tried it once. That was enough.
Not much a of rose person, but this is a Tough Rose and I feel like I have a bodyguard when I wear it, if that makes sense.
I get it. Rossy means business!
I have only seen I Am Love myself…I can vouch for it, I thought it was a great movie.
Has your hubster put on heavier clothing? Mr. Jalapeno has made the concession of wearing a sweatshirt now versus just a T-shirt, since the cold snap here.
To some extent, yes. But really, he’d prefer to run around in shorts and a T-shirt, barefooted. ?
Happy FriYAY! We made it! I adore Tilda, but don’t have any ELdO scents. Scent for today is Fendi’s Theorema. I imagine Tilda might like this one.
Makeup today is Chanel foundation, Chanel Ombes Quadra Eye Shadow in Winter Delights. Girding my loins – dealing with work drama all week (not my favorite thing). *sigh*
Oh, and I’m sipping a double-espresso with collagen, and toast with Nutella. 🙂
I had toast with chocolate-almond butter earlier. Plus another with creamy skippy PB topped with salted Virginia peanuts ?
Yay for Theorema!
And Boo for having to gird loins for work drama. My very least favorite thing is work drama. May it all go well!
Your toast sounds delicious, however.
https://www.chanel.com/us/makeup/p/151737/les-4-ombres-n5-limited-edition-multi-effect-quadra-eyeshadow/
Have you seen this Chanel No.5 eye palette? Has your name on it!
Oh, salted P-nuts sound delicious… I like Spanish peanuts over chocolate ice cream.
That palette is so gorgeous! Totally lemming the dark color, smudged with a red Chanel lippie?
*sigh*
Lemming ! That Chanel quad is ?
YUCK on the work drama! Will you be able to relax over the weekend?
Hi Jalapeno! Fortunately, I resolved the drama early in the day – what a relief!
I was able to take a long walk on lunch, come back and finish what I needed to for work.
I hope to do some reading in bed Saturday and Sunday. I really want to see Dune with the hubby, so I hope we get to do that as well. 🙂
Ugh, work drama! I just wrote a blog post about how I wear Chanel No. 19 to help me feel brave in facing conflicts at work, as part of a new project, Scent Semantics: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2021/10/31/scent-semantics-november-2021/. One thing I will say for this pandemic: working remotely even part of the time does seem to have decreased the amount of work drama, at least in my workplace.
My CP fragrance: Fils de Dieu du riz et des agrumes, because it’s Etat Libre d’Orange.
Other: Aqua Allegoria Flora Nerolia Guerlain, in a bid to tame the shoulder-lurking Orange Craving Monster. Fils is winning on the sillage front, which almost surprised me.
Tea: Upton Christmas, maybe some Stash Orange Spice next.
Reading: Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions. Grabbed at a library table themed ‘What to read after watching Only Murders in the Building’
Have a great Friday!
Joining you in ELDO Fils de Dieu. How could Tilda not like it?!
Exactly!
Triplets with you and allo! I love this one, and am dangerously close to thunking my 30mL.
Thanks for the book suggestion!
A murder mystery that takes place in Italy sounds like it’s right up my alley.
I love libraries!
Clever librarian!
FdD has been jumping onto and off of my Bottle Wish List. I keep finding other perfumed distractions to chase after…
Happy Fri-yay all! SOTD is Remarkable People. This sample has been rattling around my sample stash for a while and today’s CP got me to try it finally. It is my first time trying an ELDO and I’m now curious to try more. I get a champagne-heavy mimosa (drink, not the flower) with a dash of cardamom that is getting more and more prominent over time. Bright, but also a warm and sugary-spicy. Lovely way to wear citrus in the fall.
Tilda Swinton is such a great actor. I’ve been trying to decide which of her movies is my favorite, but I can’t choose between Only Lovers Left Alive and Michael Clayton, so I’m declaring it a tie, with a special mention for The Souvenir.
Drinking a chai-assam blend this morning to compliment the perfume.
Mmm chai. I have swapped in my fall/winter clothes and perfumes, but not my tea. Must rectify!
I’ve not smelled your SOTD but I love mimosa and it sounds intriguing.
She’s been so good in so many things, but I think my favourite performance of hers is as the White Witch in that Narnia movie, which I did not care for, but she was truly scary.
That she can be equally convincing as a scary witch or an in-over-her-head corporate lawyer just shows how great she is
Took me ages to figure out she was playing the magazine editor in Trainwreck (all the bronzer, wig and eye makeup). Kind of amazing.
I think Joanna Hogg has made a part 2 to The Souvenir. I am looking forward to it
I loved Only Lovers Left Alive so much!!!
Wearing Like This from a sample, as assigned! I thought it was really interesting when I first prayed it on, but it’s been a couple hours and like springpansy said, it’s gone straight, 100% immortelle.
I think my favorite Tilda Swinton film is We Need to Talk About Kevin, but I have several still on my watchlist. Considering going to see her in French Dispatch today…but Spencer just came out and I still have to catch up with Antlers. It’s been ages since there’s been multiple desirable options at the movies. Are we “back to normal” now?
Some day I will watch Kevin, but I think it might freak me out at the moment.
Can’t wait to see French Dispatch. But I will wait for streaming. So I am not back to normal!
I have no ELDO at all, so I went with another house known for throwing a curve ball–Serge Lutens. I’m wearing the relatively straightforward Un Bois Vanille. It’s still raining here, but I don’t mind. This is what fall in the Pacific Northwest is supposed to be, and it has been much too dry the past three or four years. It smells good here, too.
If you want to smell terrific and not risk bothering anyone, Un Bois Vanille is an awfully good way to do it.
Tilda Swinton is cool! I have a sample of Like This, but it’s not my favorite ELdO.
I’m trying Experimentum Crucis, and it’s an interesting big Rose chypre. I like it. However, someone in the hallway commented on a smell of “dying animal” this morning, so I’m really hoping I was not the animal.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Doh! ?
Ack!
Yikes!
Ruh roh!
Noel au Balcon for me today, my only ‘winter’ ELdO: soft honey, spices, musk, definitely a comfort scent. It’s cool but clear here today; looking forward to more rain next week. DH is going to be out all afternoon; I am looking forward to some quiet ‘me’ time 🙂
Enjoy your quiet time. Bliss.
Scent twins today! I love this one!
That one sounds nice!
Twins! I love Noel au Balcon, my favorite ELdO.
I have and own both You or Someone like You and Like This. My only two ELDO. But I will not be wearing neither one of these.
Right now I am commando because my job is landscaping.
Wear what you like 🙂
Don’t own any ELDO offerings so it’s a no go for the CP. Did a little more decluttering since my grandmother loves to snoop and will continue on after work. Testing out Her by Burberry today. So happy that I will be off for the next 2 days when I am finished with work today.
Yay for a whole weekend!
I tried that same Burberry this week. It’s a nice one, fruity, but not overly so. I hope you have a great weekend!
I chose OJ Woman for the CP, because the forest that this smells like is exactly where mystic poetry should be read.
Ooooooh, good description…
Perfect.
In ELDO’s Roland Mouret Une Amourette–somehow making neroli and black pepper seem like the most natural of bedfellows.
Was it on the British Bake Off? Some baking show I was watching had a contestant who kept mixing in a bit of black pepper with her sweet baked goods. She was booted off the island or out of the tent or whatever pretty quickly.
There is nothing gourmand to my nose about this scent, but the black pepper ping works very well with the neroli and other floral notes.
Could be GBBS, but I don’t remember it. They all blur together after awhile 🙂
I really like that scent. Not sure about the baking…
Yeah. It sounded edgy, but terrible. Black pepper on blueberries sort of thing.
Not an ELdO fanboy. I’m in Safran Troublant from L’Artisan.
To those who were wondering about Aedes fragrances – Aedes perfumery peeked on their Insta a photo of something that looks like the bottle caps and they said the fragrances are coming back this Fall.
So it seems the fragrances will return, repacked in new bottles. Hopefully not reformulated.

yay!!!!
Good to know, thanks!
Excellent news scoop!
Thank you for bringing good tidings of joy!
Wearing the exuberant Bendelirious. It is the one perfume I own whose philosophical stance is: Wheee!
I’ve heard so many fun things about that perfume. I bet you smell fantastic!
I wore too much Like This last week, so I unearthed the Penhaligons deluxe sample set I bought over a decade ago, when I was just starting my journey down the rabbit hole, and put on Bluebell, which was always one of my favourites of that set. I haven’t had those samples out in years, so thanks for the suggestion, Robin!
Friday. More rain. My WTForecast app today said the forecast was for “Wet Crap,” which about sums it up. I survived the transit trip out to the head office in the suburbs yesterday; going at off hours helped. Also was good that one of my colleagues rode home with me, so we could make our own little bubble.
Not sure if I remember correctly that it was also Kate Moss’ signature for years? In which case, that is what KM and TS have in common (along with thin, blond, wealthy, British).
I had to laugh at the forecast your weather app had! I ought to tell my brother about that one, since he works outside.
I have an ELdO discovery set that includes Like This, which I don’t love, but I’ve had a tough week and just grabbed something I knew would make me happy — a delicate mist of 31 rue Cambon. It’s sunny and cold here today, so I will go for a walk after my final meeting of the day.
You smell fantastic! I went with 31 rue Cambon yesterday. 🙂
Always go for the happy! Hope you have a peaceful weekend, skalolazka.
I hope things improve after a tough week!
Perfume comfort scents beat CP points any time!
I thought I had never seen a Tilda Swinton movie. Just now though I remembered that she was in Constantine with Keanu. It’s a good movie. She plays Gabriel.
Heading into work wearing vintage Poison because I am in a mood, lol.
Go get them, lillyjo! Does your son still work at the same place as you?
He works one day a week with me now. 3 days a week at the ” nice” job.
But that one is only 5 hours each day.
You smell so great! Go get ’em and knock ’em dead!
Thank you!
I love that you wear Poison to work!
Well, I don’t hajusuuri it…
Lol!
Why not?? ?
?
Always good to see you!
LOL, you’re such a temptress!
HA! I spit out my espresso, thanks! *Wardrobe* change ensues….
Sorry! Lol.
Haha ?
Oh, sounds like a “don’t mess with me mood!” That’s one of my favorite moods?. I most recently had to employ it when an alert and oriented 37 year old patient had a screaming fit at 3am because we didn’t have any turkey sandwiches…I think your job and my job are close cousins.
You can contribute to my book some day. ” people are nuts” ?
I’d buy that book in a heartbeat!
When I worked in health care, full moons and Halloween were crazy (and crazy-funny).
Girl, we could tell some stories! ?
I know it isn’t the point, but having a tantrum over such a crappy food item is particularly ridiculous. I would have a tantrum over, say, you not having goat cheese-beet-grapefruit-walnut salad, or steak frites, or something.
Exactly right! And you haven’t seen crappy until you’ve see this “sandwich,” which consists of white bread, a single slice of dried up turkey and a slice of plastic cheese. I’m embarrassed to give to people who really need it, like a post-op or a diabetic.
At least there is some sort of protein unlike the miserable biscuit full of sugar and palm oil (another classic in hospitals) plus sugary drink ?
When I give advice to my patients either diabetic or on steroids to avoid ultra processed sugary crap, some ask me about why they are getting it as inpatients then. And I don’t know what to answer.. if not to curse the governments lobbied by food industry and public health being thrown out the window (sorry for the rant)!
That is one of my favorite movies! I loved Tilda in that. Also love the religious symbolism.
I’m so with ya in ‘the mood’. Vintage Poison is spot-on perfect.
It is really good! I didn’t see it in her Wikipedia, but I was reading fast.
That movie is fabulous.
Ooooh, you smell so good!
Which concentration of vintage Poison?
I think it’s 1992, but I would have to double check.
Means it’s probably EdT or EdP. I think the EdC didn’t survive into the 1990’s.
Poison is da bomb. 🙂 you go girl!
Wow, vintage Poison, that must be some mood! I hope your day turned out okay!
Claiming points with Fils de Dieu, my only ELDO fragrance with some other nst readers. I love Tilda, she is so beautiful and talented.
Points to tannina!
Is it me or does her profile look like that of Susan Sarandon?
SOTD = Slumberhouse Mond
Woohoo, I snagged one of the 30mLs. I was shut out the first time around as I was in the process of deciding which 4 free samples I wanted and this time around, I just said Surprise Me with the latest and indeed they did, one of which was Tauer Sundowner ?. Anyway, 4 tiny sprays as I don’t know how big or small it is. So far, I smell spiced honey amber tobacco and if this is all I’m ever going to smell, I’m a happy camper. 8 sprays when I am working from home.
And I am taking full credit because Mond has 4 letters and so does Rumi.
In other news, did I mention that I started using my Air Fryer / Oven combo yesterday? I tried it with tater tots and they came out golden brown. I watched it like a hawk since it’s all about experimentation and I may have left it in a minute more than ideal so will adjust next time! I can now expand my menu and may make some of the easy recipes in the booklet!
Tomorrow, I will list some potential splits (did it too late yesterday).
Should I get the Guerlain Beehive Advent Calendar? ?
I’m off to an appointment, but if its on discount, I say YES! If you are secure in your job, double YES! Savings for 6 months, triple YES!
No discount though …
If the other 2, YES, YES!
Enjoy that air fryer! I wish I had one, and the power it takes to run them.
Now wait! Are you talking about sundowner above when you say “spiced honey amber tobacco”… ? If so, I may have to invest in a large sample. I just got the ittybitty…
Okay, I was wondering that too, I mean about Sundowner!
I was talking about Slumberhouse Mond. The far drydown is a nice non-sweet tobacco – nice!
Oh, maybe I need that slumberhouse…?
Someone else got the Guerlain advent calendar. Not sure who, though. An emphatic yes from me! Dooo eeet! And post photos, of course. ?
KellyRed got it although I am not certain if she has a way to share the pics.
Now that you mention it, yes, that Swinton profile pic does look like Susan Sarandon!
If you can afford the Guerlain goodies, shoot the moon and go for it! ??⭐
Thinking … although it would be indulgent since I also have the Chanel Calendar.
A perfumed “Clash of the Titans” for sure!
If you decide to split the Tauer, count me in!!!! Get the calendar…life is short, but Guerlain makes it all good!
Life is short! I will split the Sundowner … I just have to make it attractive since I was charged shipping but got a 5-piece Discovery Set (although not sure if everyone else did as well).
And you’re so right that life is too short.
Ooh, a Sundowner split? Interested…
I really like both Mond and Sundowner. I got the five piece discovery set too. Nice perk. 🙂
You mean you haven’t got it already?!?
I might have to look into an air fryer. We love tater tots at my house, but they take forever in the oven.
Air Fryers are supposed to cut down on cooking time and uses less oil. I suggest checking out Target!
The advent calendar looks amazing. I would say go for it!
Eeep, you’re making it harder…
Sorry, but it looks like a work of art.
Oh, and I decided against the Guerlain advent calendar because I already have full bottles of all the minis, too many candles, and don’t use their skin care products.
Have no idea where my sample of Like This is so I went for Champagne as a lovely celebratory scent
Sounds good to me!
Friday!
1) I am wearing Fat Electrician, which actually reminds me of Orlando, one of Swinton’s (breakout) roles!
2) She’s an aristocrat- a real one- and I swear I have seen some of her relatives in paintings in London.
3) She’s not just an actress, but a performance artist and woman of real taste, daring and sensibility.
The fashion bloggers Tom and Lorenzo, whom I follow regularly, call her “Pope Tilda.”
Ha!
She just radiates so I can see calling her Pope! 🙂
https://www.theguardian.com/film/2013/mar/24/tilda-swinton-glass-box-moma
YES.
Amongst other thought provoking works!
Orlando is one of my favorite books. I love it so much that I don’t want to see the movie, but because Swinton is Orlando I’m not anxious about it.
I’m wearing Alahine, from the last splitmeet. Love it! It’s spicier on me than the notes would suggest, and I swear I smell cloves.
PSA for Lush fans. Avert your eyes if you don’t want to be tempted to spend a lot at Lush!
https://www.lushusa.com/gifts/all-gift-sets/advent-calendar/9999960948.html
It’s definitely way too much than I’d ever spend at Lush, but it does look wonderful. Love the big box, but it’s hard to tell if the inside is packaged in a way for you to open a little box each day.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Wow! That’s a lot of bath bombs! ?
Lovelovelove that box.
Ohhhh! That’s a bath bomb supply for the whole year.
Last week I bought the white bear soap in that basket, which this year comes as my beloved snowcake scented soap! I cannot get enough of that scent and last year’s wasn’t quite the same. It’s almond marzipan goodness.
I have that white bear soap, too. That will be next in line!
I remember seeing Tilda Swindon in a TV series Your Cheatin’ Heart when I was in Glasgow, around 1990 and it had enough impact on me that I bought a black cowboy hat like the one she wore. She was singing country music, for context. In this clip she sings From a Distance ( not that well).
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VuGAF_qd_HI
Wearing Couche du Diable and the linking it to Young Adam, another Scottish film with Swindon and the great Peter Mullan.
No fireworks here last night, not a one. But because some of you mentioned hopes of seeing an aurora the other night here’s a link to the aurora Australis seen from my city this week
https://www.odt.co.nz/news/national/rnz/aurora-australis-dazzles-over-southern-skies
Don’t know why it came out as Swindon not Swinton
Beautiful! I have seen striking videos also posted from up north in Wisconsin. They said there was a solar storm.
Amazing video!
I had never heard of that series! She really does not sing it that well! Hard to tell from the clip if that is intended or not.
Joining a few others in Fils de Dieu today. It was great in the summer heat so will be interesting to see how it develops in much cooler weather.
Happy Friday!
Summer heat!!! Don’t remind me 😉
Slept like a boss last night until noon today! Still raining, but the pitter-patter on my fiberglass roof is very soothing. The ground is so mushy though. I think it’s reached maximum saturation point, and most of the rain now is run off. We need snow!
Fils de Dieu today, an ELDO near and dear to my heart. Had a bottle of PdP a while back but swapped because the dry-down was a bit sweet for me.
Has anyone tried the new Tauer yet? Mine arrived at my mail forwarding service yesterday, so I imagine some of you have gotten yours as well. Do tell if you’ve tried it!
Mine arrived today, so far, too busy to open it! Hopefully tomorrow.
Robin, what happened to your priorities?! ?
Have not tried it yet! Too many packages!
Too many packages is not a bad thing! ?
You’ve got all sorts of goodies!
I have gone off the deep end. Donatella would be proud. ?
Like too many to count I am in FdD but special wave to Deva who is I think the most consistent wearer, it smells mighty fine today, that heir to Shalimar is a delight to wear.
*waving back* ??
This is a great time of year for Fils de Dieu, IMO. For me it shines in cool to cold weather.
Oh, I agree; it wears less citrussy than my last wearing in summer iirc and more ambery.
I am wearing You Or Someone Like You.
Definitely a pick-me-up of mint and more mint.
That’s the part of You or Someone like You I adore – the mint!!
I’m in Kilian Imperial Tea. I hate how much I adore this perfume. So hard to find and even then overexpensive because it is so rare. I just don’t like Like This enough to want to wear it. I only have a little bit in my bottle.
I see what you did there. ?
I’ve never been drawn to any of the ELdO scents and don’t even have a sample of any of them so for today’s cp I’m going with the general feel of the Rumi poem and the notes of Like This and wearing one of my fall favorites, the original Bvlgari Omnia. Mandarin orange, soft spices – ginger, cardamom, saffron, clove, cinnamon, – creamy white chocolate at the base, I love these notes! And although many are not fans of its unusual bottle, I love its soft round interlocked shape reminiscent of the infinity symbol; it fits perfectly in my hand. Everything about Omnia is soft and understated and says ‘peace’ and ‘calm’ to me.
Looking forward to the weekend ahead. Weatherwise, it’s probably the last beautiful fall weekend – warm and sunny with temps to the mid-60’s and trees are in full color. A virtual concert tonight with our favorite Chicago folk troubadour followed by a local Murder Mystery conference Saturday and lunch with friends on Sunday, and somehow we’ll squeeze in celebrating Mr. Laila’s birthday this weekend! Hope you all have a good one, too!?
Enjoy your autumn weekend and have a happy day with your husband
Sounds like a fun line up for this weekend! And I’m in total agreement regarding Omnia. Such a wonderful understated classy perfume. I don’t mind the shape of the bottle per se, but I intensely dislike the spray mechanism, which doesn’t spray so much as dribble. It’s one of those rare unicorns that can go to a funeral, a wedding, date night with SO, and to your place of employment, no matter where that may be. A workhorse of a perfume and so cheap!!!
I agree about the sprayer on those bottles — awful! I much prefer the pretty “charm” bottles from Bvlgari.
Happy Birthday to Mr. Laila!
Sounds like a wonderful weekend full of life! Happy Birthday wishes to Mr. Laila!
Yay for Friday! It’s been a productive day here: mended a shirt, made a batch of chili, and watched someone replace the windshield in the truck. And best of all, bright and sunny! ???
A question for the makeup savvy NSTers, what would you recommend for under eye bags? Although in my case, under eye backpacks might be a better description. I’m always looking tired and worn out even when that isn’t the case. ?
SOTD = ELdO Jasmin Et Cigarette, from the sample stash. Usually this is just all jasmine all the time on me. Today I got a hefty sniff of cured tobacco leaf and a little bit of jasmine. Weird, huh?
It’s weird how perfumes change so much from one day to the next! I wonder if it’s the skin, the temperature or our sense of smell being different. Or all at once.
I have been delving into evidence based skin care lately as I am dealing with similar issues! Looking so so tired lately. What I’ve found:
Retinol/ retinoids may help with this issue as it increases the thickness of the skin and that is one of the reasons we have blue circles under the eyes- skin being very thin and more so with age. Slow process over many months for any results and it’s important not to overdo it with small concentration that you build up. Is anyone on retinoids? I’ve been trying lately with the ordinary serums and so far liking it.
If the bags are because of the deep fat pads coming to the surface from the age related thinning of collagen and connective tissue- little to do but prevent this from happening further by avoiding rubbing the eyes and being very very delicate with this skin (a blepharoplasty being the only solution).
If the bags are because of fluid collecting around the lids, caffeine serum can help and it’s also antioxidant so in general good for skin.
Exercise and good nutrition, no alcohol and no excess of salt- the most important thing!
I personally find that the more makeup I use for under eye circles/ bags the worse it looks… so embrace them and smoke the eyelash line instead.
I haven’t tried retinols or caffeine yet, so those are definitely options.
However, salty snacks are my weakness, especially when I am stressed! So I might have to throttle back on those. My allergies might also contribute to the problem.
I don’t use makeup in my daily life, just sunscreen.
Yes, same here. I’ve not worn foundation (or concealer) in ages, just sunscreen and a bit of mineral powder on top. Just eye makeup for the most part.
The caffeine serums do help to temporarily reduce puffiness. I think you are on to something about salt and stress though.
Reducing puffiness even for a little bit would help, though.
Glad you had a good / productive day! It was sunny and cold in NYC today and I ended up wearing my convertible fingerless polartec gloves.
The occasional breeze that I felt sure was a chilly one! Time to remember where I put my gloves after last winter was over…
I got a sample of Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream with an online order. I used it all and was very impressed. For me, it really seemed to help smooth and depuff the under eye area.
I’ve also been watching Mandy Davis, MUA on YT. She has the most
impeccable skin that I’ve seen in a long while. I need to rewatch her skincare videos as she goes through her entire routine.
Good to know, thanks!
You can also try to elevate the head of the bed on risers. They come in various heights and can be very useful for facial edema (and many other things) as the risers lift your face/head above the level of your heart. I sleep like this all the time for an unrelated reason- silent GERD. Works wonderful! Now I just try to park with the nose of the van a few inches above the back end because I sleep longitudinally. When I was in a sticks and bricks, I slept this way all the time. Good for people with OSA, just to mention another frequent issue.
I’ve been using Retinol Eye Cream by The Inkey List. Refreshingly simple name, right? Every third night, with my regular eye cream on top of it. Not a dramatic transformation, but I look fresher, and the price is right.
I would have the same advice vitamin A derivatives such as a retinol, available in many creams, go with 10% concentration or a retinoid proper, 0.5 or 1% proper available on prescription. I don’t have bags but very purple dark circles that also make me look very tired (sigh).
You smell great.
I’m in Iris Ganache after work which I find super cozy. Earlier I was wearing Chloe Naturelle and really liking this one. Is so easy to wear, a sparkling mimosa and fresh rose without aroma chemicals to upset me. Has been one of my recent splurges.
Today I wore a particular Dior quad eyeshadow with beautiful blue shades- Atlantique. I used to wear mainly warm colours but lately I’m loving purples and blues all over the lid, especially with a bit of brown in the crease and to line. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203089006976
I am looking forward to trying Chloe Naturelle when it reaches here.
I am sure it will. It’s quite accessible around here now- find it in every Chloe display. As opposed to the other collection “Atelier des Fleurs” which I also would love to try.
I’ve been leaning to cooler eye looks, too. Was at Ulta last night and I’m probably the last person on earth to try the Stila shimmer and glow liquid eyeshadows, but the color Cloud is just delicious. It’s a lavender, pink, grey, silver shade that doesn’t move once dry. No glitter or anything, just an intense metallic glow. A bit of eyeliner and boom! The eye look is amazing, subtle, and glam. So easy peasy!
I’ve heard so much about these eyeshadows, but never went ahead with any because of my glitter-phobia! They do look really gorgeous.. are they easy to remove?
I use Clinique cleansing balm and they come right off with that. Just FYI: Cloud and about 4 other shades have NO glitter, just high metallic shine. There are some matte ones as well. I think they have been slowly expanding the line because when they first came out I remember them all being glitter bombs, but not anymore.
Ok’ I’m sold 🙂 thanks for the recommendation!
I haven’t tried them either, because of the reason that Cicely mentioned: glitter phobia! That, and finding out glitter actually irritates my eyes.
SOTD alternating between Like This, for Tilda Swinton’s birthday, and Jasmins Marzipane, for candy!
Hi everyone! I was CP compliant in two sprays of Like This (I own a small bottle). It was fun to think about all the other NST people in the world wearing this one at the same time.
Now I’m home from work, so I’m testing Hiram Green Slowdive on my arms. Holy cumin, batman! That’s what I thought at first, but that note subsided pretty quickly. Maybe it’s actually the tobacco flower I’m detecting since I don’t see cumin listed anywhere, and I don’t actually know what tobacco flower smells like! But now I’m just getting honey and beeswax. Not bad!
Now I’ll read all the previous comments :).
Hello there!
Hi Jalapeno! ?
Holy cumin, batman.
Yep.
My day is just a little bit better.
Yay! ?
ELDO is in second place (behind Hermes) for full bottles in my collection (6). Today I just wore a work scent (not an ELDO) but I think tomorrow may be a Like This day.
Which ELDO full bottles do you have? I think they just had a buy one get one half off and I was sorely tempted, but haven’t sampled enough yet. Very interested in the Spice Must Flow scent.
I have You or Someone Like You, She Was an Anomaly, Fils de diuex…, Jasmin Et Cigarette, Remarkable People and Like Thus. I’m interested in several others, but will wait until the vet bills are just a distant memory before buying any more.
A lot of times, the lack of testing/sampling SAVES my wallet.
