It's Almost-Friday and National Apple Day. Today is also Ursula Le Guin's birthday, and her estate (she died in 2018) has announced the Ursula K Le Guin prize for fiction, to be awarded starting next year. (More birthdays: Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Celia Cruz, Dizzy Gillespie, Carrie Fisher.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Thierry Mugler Aura for Pantone 18-6022 Leprechaun.
Reminder: on 10/22, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's picks for the Autumn/Winter 2021/2022 NYFW Color Palette. (If you like, click through to the article and pick your fragrance based on the color name or description rather than the color itself, as in "Leprechaun is a wondrous green hue emblematic of the mythical imps featured in Irish folklore" or "Friendly and joyful, an optimistic yellow offering the promise of a sunny day.")
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Such a lovely, peaceful picture Robin!
Another chilly start to the workday. BUT it’s payday.
Think Cuir de Russie again since I waited so long to open the bottle and smelled so fab all day yesterday.
The pantones aren’t working for me this week.
Beautiful choice. And ditto on the Pantones. I think of lots of my perfumes in terms of colours, usually, but not this week!
You reminded me to check and see if it was Payday for me, and it was, so thank you!
yay!!
Isn’t that gorgeous? So little open coastline like that left.
I’m wearing Armani Mania
15 years ago when I was an 19 year old girl I thought that it was the most perfect fragrance in the world.
I asked my mother to buy it for me and she came to store with me to y me a 30ml bottle. It was an expensive gift for our family and I really treasured it.
Guys loved it. I lived in the dorm and I was asked constantly what perfume I was wearing. People in store lines also asked what was this perfume I wore.
It was the only perfume that actually made compliments. I thought that I would wear Armani Mania for the rest of my life as a signature scent. It was so ambery-peppery nice. I used up 3 bottles.
But then I started to try other perfumes and things got complicated))
Now I don’t think that Armani Mania is that great. It is rather boring. It has a fresh note of calone probably, pink pepper and a synthetic base.
I respect it as my first grown up perfume. But I won’t wear it again for sure
She deserves a special place in my heart though) As my first real perfume and as the only one that got me complements on how I smell)
Great memories! First great perfume loves are always special.
The original Fendi by Fendi is mine, I’ve never tired of it.
Lovely story, Veronika! First love, aah, ain’t it grand. ?
mine were Tatiana, Anais, Charlie, Ciara… first loves make the best memories.
Wonderful memory/story.
That’s a beautiful and touching story. How nice of your mother!
Yes, thank you!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful scent memory, your mother sounds like a sweet lady!
thank you! She understands the importance of perfume for a girl for sure!
Lovely story!
Wearing Bois des Iles, EdT. This has been a challenging scent for me for many years. The sandalwood becomes very prominent on skin and that’s a note so difficult for me to wear. However, after a long time, I decided to give it a try again and it finally clicked. I have been wearing it daily for almost a week and its beauty is very comforting.
I have been away because my mom was admitted again to the hospital last Friday. She is in very serious condition. She is scheduled for surgery next Wednesday, but not sure if she will be able to make it by then. The past week has been full of sadness and stress. I just want her to be out of this situation soon, no matter the outcome.
I have been lightly spraying on BdI for comfort. My sisters associate perfumes with pleasant or happy moments. They don’t understand how I can be wearing a scent under the current circumstances. My youngest sister, especially finds it insensitive. Only I know how scents have helped me through the toughest times of my life and I will not stop, unless I am not in the mood for it. I made some damage to my wallet a few nights ago and purchased a couple of full bottles. Waiting for them to be delivered today.
Planning to have a relaxing day at home on Saturday, when my younger sister and nephew will be spending the day with mom. We are all looking forward to a quiet, peaceful holiday season full of health, peace and gratitude and hopefully celebrating life!
Sorry for the long post! Happy almost Friday, everyone! ☕
Sorry you are going through this!
What FB did you purchase?
I would say, take comfort in perfume or a nice cup of Joe..whatever it takes to get through these times. Your family may not understand whom you truly are, seldom family members do, so don’t take their criticism to heart. Just my humble unsolicited advice
I know this is a difficult time for you, and you must take care of yourself, so that you can face the outcome of your mother’s situation with a clear heart. If perfume makes you feel better, wear it.
I also use perfume as a sort of therapy for the soul
It is absolutely not a vanity thing
Hope your mom gets better and you can cope with this stress by any means at your disposal
I feel like I might not be in the mood for it in your situation, but whatever brings you comfort in a trying time should be celebrated.
Hoping for peace for you and your family.
Prayers for you and your family Pl67.
I will echo Ltsg about not taking any criticism to heart.
I am glad to see you here and enjoying your perfume. ⚘❤?
I am sorry to hear about your mum.
Everyone has their own way of coping and I absolutely understand how perfume can help. I have relied on it too.
I hope things will be better and I send well wishes your way.
I’m so sorry you are experiencing this very difficult time. I too agree with Ltsg, you do what is a comfort for you. Hope the situation is resolved soon, hugs.
Sending positive thoughts your way! And yes, do whatever you have to do to comfort yourself.
I’m so sorry about your mother’s health and am glad that you finding comfort in fragrance and able to take a break when your sister and nephew are visiting. Thinking of you.
I’m sorry to hear your mom’s health has again deteriorated.
Sending you warm thoughts and hugs, PL67. Take comfort wherever you can find it.
We’re all thinking about you.
I’m so sorry you and the family are going through such a difficult time. Here’s hoping your mom heals and has a successful surgery and complete recovery.
I’m with you. Perfume brings me comfort, these days, take comfort wherever you can find it. Sending you warm hugs from afar.
I’m so sorry about the situation with your mother. This stage is incredibly hard on everyone. I’m glad you will wear fragrance when that brings you comfort! Sending you hugs and warm thoughts …
Sending hugs, and hopes for peace for you and all your family.
I am so sorry ?
I agree it’s good that you can find comfort in perfume
I’m so sorry about the stress you’ve going through right now, pl67. Enjoy your BdI and ignore the judges. Wishing the best fir you, your mom, and your family.
Thinking of you and your family, pl67. That is so hard.
pl67,
I am sorry to hear this about your mother and I will keep her and you in my thoughts.
I never wore BdI until around 2016 – then my mother died and I wore it to her funeral, the days before and the days after. It brought me comfort and when everything was over, I actually purchased the EDP on my flight home.
So, it has a special meaning to me and while I am sorry your sister doesn’t quite get it, we do.
Thinking about your mom, you, and your family, pl67, and sending hugs if you want them.
I find wearing perfume causes me to take long deep breaths when I bring my wrist to my nose to smell what I am wearing, and those deep breaths cause my body to relax a bit. So even from just purely physical POV, I agree that perfume can help with stress.
Hugs for you, pl67 to get you through this difficult time.
I’m so sorry you are going through this. My best well wishes for you and your family. I know how perfumes can comfort during times of distress and I’m so glad you have your perfume blanket to soothe your heart.
Sending calming thoughts to you & your family, pl67.
You smell great. I am sorry your mom’s health has deteriorated. I pray for her comfort as well as for yours and the rest of your family.
So sorry to hear about your mom! I hope they’re able to keep her as comfortable as possible. Also, hope perfume continues to bring you a bit of comfort, even if others don’t really understand it.
I’m so sorry to hear this.
I also had a hard time with BdI, but fell in love when I revisited it, and it is my ultimate peace and serenity fragrance.
Thinking of you, hugs. Keep on wearing your perfumes if they bring you comfort.
*virtual hug*
1) Whatever the outcome, may it be the best one.
2) Only you know what can bring you comfort and joy at this terrible time. In time, your siblings will understand.
I’m very sorry your mother’s situation is so serious, and hope for the best for her, you, and your family.
Sending love to you and your family, so hard to work through….
Terribly sorry, PL67. You are such a constant, caring and always there for your mother. Perfume is very healing for some of us. My mother picked out a perfume she loved on me and I wore it every day till she passed. Dad was different. I wore my own different ones till he let me know they were awful. Then, I wore Mom’s and he loved it.
You have no energy or room in your life to deal with whining. If they never had a problem before, leave you alone. It only makes this sad time worse.
Lots of us get it. You just want your mother in no pain and having a good quality of life.
Big hugs. Bigger than you can imagine.???
Big hugs, PL67. Hoping your mom improves and the surgery is successful and sending lots of love and strength to you and your family.
I am sorry to hear about your mother, I’m hoping for the best for her, and for you and your family.
Dearest pl67, I’m sending you lots of hugs and well wishes for your mother. Will be thinking of you!
The gentlest of hugs to you, pl67. I’ve been where you are, and it’s the hardest thing. You don’t have to explain or justify what comforts you in these times, and I’m glad you have fragrance as a solace. Also glad you have some time this weekend to sit quietly.
I’m so sorry to hear you mom is in the hospital again, pl67, keeping you both in my thoughts.
Biggest hugs to you. I hope your mom is as comfortable as possible.
I wore Wood Sage and Sea Salt constantly during the mast days of my mother in law’s life. It grounded me and made me stronger for my husband and his family.
PL67, I am so very sorry that you are going thru this now. I was in a similar situation not very long ago. You’ve got to do something that works for you as self care. Hugs.
I’m so sorry about your Mom. Sending you and your family hugs and strength during this time. I’m glad there are some scents that are resonating with you now.
Hoping for the best and for your peace of mind.
I’m wearing a sample of MMR Lazy Sunday Morning which I’m almost ready to scrub off. Serious laundry dryer sheets on me. And I do not do the laundry in this house.
Happy Thursday! ONE.MORE.DAY.
Nothing worse than dryer sheet, ugh.
I read the description of that one and thought it would be amazing. It was so very bad on me. Blergh!
Ew, ew, ew, ew. Dryer sheet/fabric softener is Unpleasant!
2 cups homemade chai tea
Jersey today-just felt right.
Makeup EL double wear and some Dior eyeshadow
Ohhh, chai tea! Yum! I may search for my sample of Beige… it’s somewhere. I may make a cup (or two) after a 10am meeting.
Oh chai! So glad to see your posts this week ? Is it a recent Dior? I have some newer palettes (the 5 Couleurs Couture style) and they’re excellent quality but I find I’m reluctant to disturb the lovely patterns on the surface, so that are not getting as much use as they should!
I’m exactly the same way about my Dior palettes! They have ended up just being museum pieces. They are rather shimmery, so I’ll take that as my excuse. ?
the new EL double wear sheer matte is perfection. It feels like nothing on my skin all day long.
I will have to try that one
The EL double wear and Chanel are my fav foundations
It was released just a few months ago and won Allure best of new products.
And I am not prejudiced just cause of consulting there.
Taking notes-I use the EL double wear powder daily but need a new foundation-all my other ones are years old (yeuch)
Ooh I’m eager to try the new double wear. Now that I’m back to the office a few times a week I’ve been wearing Dior’s backstage foundation, and it’s working pretty well, but I’m always seeking out better!!
If you don’t mind my asking…do you think the double wear sheer matte would be good on dry skin?
I’ve added a drop or 2 of a facial oil to a foundation if it’s a bit too matte.
Oh, good idea. Thanks Gail!
I think it works on all skin. My skin can be dry. At 68 full face foundation is too much. This one has hit the sweet spot.
Thanks apsara. I feel the same way about full coverage foundation – it’s just too much. There were several comments on the Sephora site from dry skin folks that were positive, so I’ll for sure get a sample and test drive it.
I’m wearing Cartier Vetiver Bleu. I got a flu shot on Monday evening and it wiped me out. I was home sick Tuesday and Wednesday. Feeling marginally better today, and not feverish, so I’m back at work. This is the first really bad reaction that I’ve had to a flu shot in a couple of years. I did have a really bad reaction to my second COVID vaccine, so maybe it’s just my age and general health.
Different people respond differently. My mother has been receiving her flu shot in two doses for years, maybe that’s an option for next year.
I hope you feel better.
My flu shot this year I had no reaction to, beyond a slightly sore arm overnight. My COVID booster exhausted me for 5 days. Random responses…
my flu shot was a doozy.
I’m sorry it hit you so hard! I hope you’re feeling much better.
For Illuminating, I went for the brightest cold-weather scent in my collection – Winter Palace. Maybe stretching it a little bit, but it’s a favorite.
Stretching is always allowed!
Good morning!
To celebrate Apple Day, my sotd is Toy 2, a crisp apple, mixed fruits and clean soap scent.
Currently on my first cup of coffee. Decaf and black.
And I am on my third cup of tea, so we are probably about equal 🙂
Toy 2 sounds fun! I, too, take my coffee decaf ?
Knize Ten, “The Gentleman’s Toilet Water”, leathery as heck. There are a great many other things in there, but Knize Ten doesn’t care: it just wants to surround you in leather like the gentleman you secretly are. Such a good cool-fall-weather scent.
You smell heavenly!
Love Knize Ten — you smell gentlemanly for sure!
SOTD is Nirvana Rose, a find at TJ Maxx for $16.99! First time in a long while that I’ve found any fragrance of interest at any of the brick-and-mortar discount stores — what’s up with that? I guess it can pair with the Pantone color Pale Rosette, but it’s not a “pale” rose fragrance. It’s got a nice dose of vetiver with the Rose de Mai, and it’s a bit spicy. For tomorrow, I’ll probably wear either Rosine’s Clair Matin for Pale Rosette, or one of my beloved green fragrances to go with Leprechaun. Papillon’s Dryad comes to mind!
What a find! I used to find all sorts of gems at TJ Maxx but it’s rare.
I know, it has been really scarce pickings for at least a year now. I’m sure it has something to do with supply chain disruptions. Given that department stores can’t or won’t put out testers any more, I keep hoping a lot of them will show up at discounters online.
I have this thought too – a full pipeline of goodies to suddenly appear. I am keeping some “dry powder” for the holidays/year end…
Nice!
I like it a lot but will hold off on reviewing it until next May, if I do another “Roses de Mai” marathon on my own blog! I’m saving up a few new (to me) fragrances for that!
Kiss Me Intense, which I don’t think pairs with any of the colors since it’s a combo of vanilla and bitter almond, which cuts the sweetness.
Power sleep last night and crazy dreams in the morning hours. Lots of driving and errand running yesterday, so staying close to home in this rainy day. Will take a run up to the big farmers market to see what apples they have…it’s getting close to their seasonal closing time. We won’t see them again until late May. Hard to believe it was a year ago we were here making decisions on flooring, counters, tiling, etc.
Hope you found wonderful apples! Our farmer’s market is year round but obviously has less fresh stuff in the winter.
I am wearing Wazamba which works for apple day and therefore for Pantone Fire Whirl, none of which was planned lol. It is finally fall here, wearing a favorite sweatshirt today. Looks like we may have had our last 70F day for a long time.
you smell great!
Such a great fall scent, good choice
Every time I see Wazamba, I mentally hear Animal from the Muppets saying it. And it makes me smile.
Me too!!! I can’t believe someone else does that.
Someone here at NST mentioned it ages ago, and I almost fell off the couch laughing. I won’t forget that earworm anytime soon.
This is a late comment, but I get a kick out of the insurance commercial featuring Animal. “We love our new house, but there’s an Animal in the basement.” I giggle every time.
I am wearing Casablanca today – a fiery whirl if there ever was one and one of my favorite fall fragrances.
Beautiful choice!
Carnal flower for an important meeting ?
If anyone misses flying and would like to re-create the sensory experience and I have a tip – brew a cup of Keurig coffee and spray Bath and body Works “sea island Shore” in the air – it evokes a combination of compressed air, commercial airline soap, and high altitude coffee – enjoy!
?? Know exactly the “sensory experience” you describe!
????
That is a *great* scent picture! And right before your meeting, too. Gives one that old “road warrior” feeling.
LOL!!
Hello everyone, cheered myself up for a few tricky meetings today by wearing a big-shouldered and short-skirted suit, and a lot of Dior Eau Fraîche. Is it silly to wear suits when I am still working from home? Anyway, it worked! Looking forward to catching up on all today’s and yesterday’s comments later. Good wishes to you all.
If they are Zoom meetings, it’s entirely appropriate!
Makes sense to me!
My department is very much a “cameras off” online working environment so this self-presentation is very much for my benefit alone – amazing (embarrassing? nah) that it works so well.
That sounds like an amazing power outfit!
Brilliant! I had a few of those suits “back in the day.” I say, wear whatever brings you confidence for those tricky meetings! Chanel No. 19 does that for me …
My SOTD is Sonoma Scent Studio’s Fireside Intense with a spritz of her Incense Pure, a match with Pantone Fire Whirl.
Sipping my 2nd cup of coffee, wishing it was a chai tea. I’ll make some later this morning.
Makeup: Chanel foundation and Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadow in Abyssinian Catbird (rich, complex bronze with green and gold glints). It seems RBR has stopped production of their makeup, which is a shame, as they had beautiful colors.
I had a RBR eyeshadow , such a shame they stopped
It is! The colors and texture were gorgeous, so silky and buttery.
Which color did you have?
Alabaster or something like that. There was a blogger that reviewed this makeup line and sometimes perfume and I bought the shades she recommended. I think she passed away ..
yes!
Gaia, The Non-Blonde.
She was a wonderful beauty blogger!
And so young, too. Incredibly sad.
Yep, that’s Gaia, the Non-Blonde! She passed away a couple of years ago. I loved her reviews on skincare, makeup, and perfume. I miss her voice in the blogsphere.
And her cat pictures. I think they had 16 cats??
I loved her makeup reviews and skin care recommendations. She used to describe her coloring as Mediterranean with green undertones, similar to mine. I could pretty much buy any makeup she recommended and the colors worked beautifully.
I bought a scarf that I saw on The Non-Blonde’s blog. Then I got some as Xmas gifts and they were a hit.
That sounds like a gorgeous eyeshadow.
I had too look up that shadow. Gorgeous!
SOTD = Bois ‘Iris, which doesn’t really fit with any of the Pantone colors – I have some sky blue and white irises in my garden which have a slightly resinous scent, and this perfume reminds me to of them. I do have some very deep blue/purple irises, but they smell like grape juice! Lol!
I love Sweet Bee apples, they aren’t available for very long, but they are my favorite. They are crisp and slightly tart, mostly sweet.
Are you wearing The Different Company or VC&A version of Bois d’Iris?
I’m asking because I’m wondering if anyone has smelled a strange top note on the TDC version. I returned one bottle and bought another, thinking the top note was off but it’s there on both. I find it very off putting but if I can get past the initial blast, it dries down nicely.
TSC iris is so lovely, sorry to hear about this experience. My bottle is maybe 5 years old and it’s fine from start to finish, but maybe I just can’t smell what you can? The very first note is almost a cheap-sweets-violet to me but it lasts a few seconds, then the whole thing warms up and develops.
I wish I could smell cheap-sweets-violet because I like that smell, definitely better than the strong chemical odor I’m getting:) I’m going to try blotting it and see if I get a different first impression.
I have a bottle of TDC’s Bois d’iris and also get the fleeting sweet violet top note. Nothing odd.
Yay for apples!!! Make mine a Macintosh. ?
I’m wearing vintage L’Origan for the CP today. Pantone Adobe- warm and supportive.
You smell so beautiful !
Why, thank you, Barqs!
Haven’t posted in a few days as House She-ra endured a bout of stomach flu. Mr. She-ra and I had it on Saturday and were tired but ok on Sunday. I thought She-ra Jr. might be spared but she woke up late Monday night vomiting. 🙁 Pretty much any sickness symptom a kid get needs a negative Covid PCR test to return to school right now where I am…but I managed to get her one yesterday and she is back at school today!? (Side note: I am very much pro testing but it is logistically tough for parents and I wish they would take the rapid result )
Wearing Azzaro Wanted Girl By Night today.
Curious for any previews of what folks will be offering in the Splitmeet this weekend please…? ?
She-ra, curious to know if you fell under the spell of the new Shalimar? I thought of you immediately after reading about the LE release.
I bought it blind on Weds night from Guerlain’s website ehaeheah haven’t sniffed it yet but reviews are good and vanilla. 😉
What’s funny is…I wasn’t up-to-date on NST comments but I read some in yesterday’s thread and it seems like MANY people all purchased it on Weds night…perhaps it was the full moon!!!? I randomly checked the website that night as I was pouring over reviews on Fragrantica and pulled the trigger…along w/ several NSTers across the globe. ehaeheh 🙂
Did you indulge in it too and have you tried it yet?
I did indulge, have not tried it yet, and probably won’t for a while since I had it sent to my mail service in Florida. So, it’ll be a least a month or so before I actually get it. Looking forward to hearing your take on it. You are the Queen of All Things Vanilla! ?
I’m sorry that House She-Ra was under siege and that getting the flu is so much more complicated now than it used to be.
Re: the splitmeet, I am going to split bottles of Alahine, Impossible Iris and probably one more.
Ugh. I hear you on the rapids. Hope you’re all well on the mend.
I’ll have some 10 ml Guerlain Art & Materieriel (sp) from the Perfumers Set.
Blergh, sorry to hear that House She-ra was besieged by The Crud! Hope that everyone is feeling better now.
Oh no! I’m glad to hear you’re all on the mend.
Ugh, but hopefully everyone is on the mend. Not sure about the splits as I am still working on a swap and the entire lot of freebies (which should be easy as my goal is to split them up for each package to not exceed 11oz).
It’s a lovely sunny day in SoCal, a brisk 63 degrees. The 80s theme continues. I’m wearing vintage Ysatis by Givenchy as suggested to me by the lovely Lillyjo. It’s all Big White Flower bombs. I feel rich and I’m fantasizing that my bank account is as big as my perfume. I can’t believe I’ve never smelled this before. The Ylang Ylang is quite pronounced which I adore. I’m definitely going to beg my friend for a decant of this powerhouse. I’m matching this to Pantone’s Illuminating because it reminds me of the yellow flowers of Ylang Ylang. Thank you Lillyjo for the suggestion. You are now officially my go-to girl for vintage Big Perfumes. ???????
I am no expert in vintage. I just have a good memory for what I wore and loved. Another one I wish I had again is Trueste by Tiffany. It’s from the 90’s but still very big. Glad you enjoyed Ysatis!
Love this!! “I feel rich and I’m fantasizing that my bank account is as big as my perfume.” Joining you in that fantasy!
I am wearing Chanel No 19 Poudre and drinking a large cup of English Breakfast Tea.
I may have miscalculated wearing No 19 Poudre, since its still very warm here. I absolutely love wearing this scent when its very cold outside. We had a few days of cool weather, but it all went away last night.
This is a lovely one! I haven’t worn it in ages – bought it when it came out and didn’t really understand it, but now that I’ve tried a range of iris perfumes (as well as a good range of Chanel) I really like it. Would usually go for this in spring so thanks for the cold-weather suggestion (it feels like there might even be some frost here tonight).
I’ve also been challenged by matching my perfume to the weather. And picking the wrong days for cooking and baking projects.
My husband was telling me that he visited some chat board about our (new) local area where someone was asking whether it would be warm enough for her kids to play in the sand at the beach on Thanksgiving. Answer was: it could be anywhere from 40-90F.
Sounds about right, if our first year here was any indication. In winter you need both a parka and sandals at the ready.
Inspired by Robin earlier this week, I’m wearing Prada Candy, which has been languishing in my purgatory basket for years. I’m enjoying it more than I’d remembered and it suits the day, which is mild and rainy and calling for cozy socks and sweet treats. Thanks for all the words of support yesterday! Today my inner warrior-woman is taking a well-earned rest and turning her attention to cooking a batch of spiced pear and beaujolais jam rather than wrestling with the patriarchy.
Spiced pear and beaujolais jam! Maybe just feed the patriarchy into a puddle of pleased submission, huh? 🙂
I prefer to feed the feminist fellas and let the patriarchs drool with envy… 😉
Yay for a well-earned rest, jam and taking down the patriarchy!??
All in a day’s work!
Situations like the ones make me so infuriated that I can barely form words. I’m sure you handled it with aplomb.
I have pears that are just now ripe enough for the pear & almond cake I bought them for. Your jam sounds delightful.
Glad you plucked Candy from purgatory and are enjoying it. I find it easy to like, myself. Also the perfect choice for someone who wants to know what benzoin smells like ?
Mmm, pear and almond cake! Last year my son and I made a pear and almond tarte with a chocolate crust that was a total prizewinner. I wish pear season lasted longer; they’re one of my favorites.
I love pear and almond (frangipane) tartes, but I am thus far unwilling to make pate brisee or sucre or any form of pastry, so cake is my cheater way of getting the same flavors ?
Cake is totally legit! I tend to make cobblers when I can’t be bothered to make pastry — still very similar flavor profile to a fruit pie, but so quick and easy. My son and I are currently in the process of “forgetting” about the stash of summer blackberries we hid in the freezer for mid-winter cobblers.
I read your post from yesterday very early this morning and woke the dog up with some extremely salty language. (My husband slept through the cursing.). I’m glad today is better!
Sigh. I’m allergic to pears and apples. Today’s posts are causing fruit-related melancholy. Everything sounds so yummy.
Oh dear, those are grim allergies! Does it make any difference if they’re cooked? I know cooking denatures the proteins responsible for oral walnut and grape allergies. May there be many helpings of bananas foster, peach pie, cherries jubilee with ice cream, and glorious berry crumbles in your near culinary future! Hopefully plenty of good things still on the menu…
I’m wearing Montalé Sensual Instinct, which “combines vibrant notes of coffee with the mysteries of the rose and creates a praline balance of mesmerizing sensuality.” Nope, all I get is some sweet rose, no coffee and no praline. I’ll have to wait to see if I like the dry down.
Stopped at Marshall’s
yesterday to see if I could find a bigger perfume traveling box, but no luck. I DID find a Nars Matte lipstick in Force Specialé which is a beautiful deep berry for 7.99. Don’t know when or where I’ll wear it but it’s a lovely color and their matte formulation is comfortable and doesn’t enhance lip lines or look dry and gross. Also found a full size Laniege Overnight Lip Mask in grapefruit for a song. I now have a backup to my vanilla pot.
It’s my Monday and I’m suitably blue. ?
Glad you scored at Marshall’s.
A nice find, I love a good night lip mask in winter. I use the Aritaum one or the cheap Carenel dupe of the Laneige
Laneige lip balms and masks are my faves. (And beeswax free, which is hard to come by. )
How is that Laneige lip mask?
Several people have been singing the praises of Laneige. I need to get some for my perpetually dry lips!
Nice little haul! Lately I’ve found more makeup goodies at the checkout stands than perfume back in the aisles. I hope you find a bigger perfume box!
That lip mask was a game changer for me!!
Thursday!
1) In Cloud spray- perfect for this very windy fall day!
2) FINISHED the deep clean of the former housemate’s – my word- and did the patching and smoothing. Phew, the work!
3) National Apple Day? I am thinking of making hard cider tomorrow afternoon from apples I gleaned. I have about 2 pecks of apples, and it’s a mix of crab and sweet, so I am gonna make a car jack press, add some Champagne yeast and give this a go!
DIY Car jack press: https://www.filson.com/blog/how-to/diy-car-jack-cider-press/?fbclid=IwAR2joEFbilscgcYphgEqb4AImeWPv2dV-MXa4Vk0puyBWdcK6dCaeTr2Xug
That looks like quite a good upper body workout! ??
Love the car jack press! I just used my car jack to get a new rug under my bed — such handy tools. Good luck with your cider!
I love that home made press – let us know if it does the trick.
I will! I will put up chaotic pictures!
A car jack press?!? Well. This is certainly not the first time I’ve thought to myself “I’d really like to be Ede when I grow up.”
Ede would LIKE to grow up! 😀
I’m in PdN’s Vetyver today. I think of vetiver as being a dry note, as if the grass has been cut and left out to dry in the sun, but this one is like just-cut vetiver that that is starting to ooze out its juice. I also get a strong note of coriander and ylang-ylang. I don’t get the caraway, or the cumin that some people say they from this.
Drinking Marco Polo tea, one of the few black teas that I like without milk.
PSA – The new Scents of Wood subscription finally opened today.
Love that one! You smell wonderful?
Oh My! That PdN sounds marvelous!
My credit card has a new subscription!
I’m wearing Bohemian Spice by April Aromatics from an old sample. It’s a good match for the Pantone brown color Root Beer. It’s mainly patchouli with incense, not getting much of the orange and spice top notes. I don’t know if it’s gone off because I can’t remember it very well. It’s pleasant as is but not at the top of my patchouli list.
This afternoon I’m going in for a one-week check-up on my knee surgery and plan to ask why I still have so much pain and am almost unable to walk. Ugh!
Good luck w/ your appointment.?
Have you started PT yet? Hope the pain is significantly better soon!
Hoping the pain will get better soon.
Oh, so sorry you’re dealing with so much pain! Hope it resolves quickly and that you get some good info this afternoon.
I hope that you got some answers at your checkup.
I hope your appointment went well and that you got some answers. Healing vibes coming your way!
Ugh is right. My lovely husband had knee surgery this week. So far, so good, but he’s still on the really strong pain meds. I hope your check-up provides some answers and relief!
I saw your note in IG…hope the PT can alleviate the pain.
Wearing J. Crew/Arquiste No 57 which is one of my favorite fall scents.
That one is so good. Wish I’d snagged it when it was available.
You smell great! I love that one and its “sibling”, No. 31. I think if they had priced them more reasonably from the start, they might have had a lasting classic that sold well for many years.I did snag some of each, and I hoard them.
My L’Air de Rien matches the Pantone Adobe a bit, although it should be a bit more golden brown.
Glad I can wear this again, because it’s finally fall and I also have a backup bottle
That’s a beauty! You smell great.
Still thoroughly enjoying the wistful charms of PdN’s Sacrebleu. It works well with autumn. Another busy day at work but I got a lot done!
Yay for getting a lot done!
Well no fragrance yet for me. I am going to take a very late shower today and then decide.
The other day though I tested FM Rose & Cuir. First of all I KNEW it would be a perfume of best quality even before I tried it on. FM makes very elegant, very high-end fragrances. Second of all – Rose & Cuir is just gorgeous. More rose than leather (and great for me) but what a beautiful fresh yet elegant rose!!
Some of the FM fragrances don’t quite suit me, but to quote Elizabeth Bennett, I really cannot laugh at them — they’re so well done. Wondering how Rose & Cuir compares to Galop, which I love immoderately.
And I wish I knew how Galop compared to Rose & Cuir!!
I have a little Galop decant I could send you — I recently upgraded to a full-sized bottle thanks to another NSTer. Feel free to email me at c a l in d a 4 at the hot mail, with spaces removed. 😉
All good here – it’s a sunny Friday morning before a long weekend. I’m celebrating all of that with Le Temps d’Une Fête.
Enjoy the long weekend! And the LTdF – very springy.
I am listening to Les Misérables on French radio.
I wore PC Jasmine-White Moss, very like Cristalle.
This evening I am in Caron Aimez-Moi, the last notable release from Caron I think, alas.
I’m so curious about the radio broadcast. It’s someone reading the book? Music from the Broadway adaptation? A stage play?
It’s a dramatisation of the book, a narrator and dialogues by actors, really good, in 30 minute episodes.
Which radiostation is that?
France Culture.
Thanks, I love France Culture, I’ll look into their Misérables!
My Guerlain Perfumers Set arrived last night and today I’m testing Rose Cherie. I wore it solo for a few hours and concluded that it’s not as bright as French Kiss.
I’m now comparing it to French Kiss, and my initial evaluation was correct. FK also has a more distinct raspberry note. Someone else here (forgot who – sorry!) said FK is more firmly gourmand and I would concur. FK has always smelled like a raspberry macaron to me, and Rose Cherie lacks the cookie and vanilla, but still has fruity notes and is very similar. But it’s a bit more muddled (like heavier on the mid notes, and fewer higher pitched top notes and effervescence, if that makes sense. )
It would probably make a reasonable substitute for French Kiss for most, but do we need one? I can’t keep track of what Guerlain is up to. Did they discontinue the Charnels altogether? Or rename/reformulate/repackage some but not others? My recollection is that FK was in the Charnels line, which doesn’t seem to exist anymore, but Rose Cherie is part of A &M.
I don’t know; I just fell into a vat of Ladurée-style visual and olfactory hallucinations thanks to your descriptions, and can’t get out!
?
Ooh, a Laduree vat sounds wonderful, may I join you??
Infinite room, and infinite Ispahans!
Still smell Snow Fairy on my sweatshirt. Yum!
Need to buy a bottle before Christmas, even though it’ll be on the list, anyway! I haven’t been all that good. I got coal last year.?
Crazy question: Comfortable underwear, where does one find? I have VS forever, but am corny and want some holiday undies, and to hopefully transition to a new brand.
Thanks, all! Happy Thursday and peace for all.
I just bought some new undies from Aerie that are very comfy, and you can’t quibble with the price. My spendier comfies are from Blush, Cosabella, and Hanky Panky.
Thanks, Isabella! I have some shopping to do.
My choice in unmentionables is rather basic: Jockey French Cut.
I just want comfy. Holiday patterns would be fun, cause I am festive no matter who knows!
Hi AnniePerfumes, I wore VS for years but made the switch about a year ago to Pact and I’m never going back. Super comfy. My WholeFoods carries them but I’ve ordered from the website too.
Ok. Sounds great! VS just hits me in all the wrong places, these years. And I’m not Very Sexy.
Duluth and they have sales all the time. I’m cheap so my colors are the discontinued ones.
Like at the Tractor Supply Store? Thanks!
I love what we are thrifty on and not!?
You guys are awesome.
Thank you for sharing your undie choices.
Wearing Bois d’iris from VC&A today.
And you smell wonderful!
I’m wearing MFK Grand Soir today, for the root beer color. It was perfect when it was grey and drizzly this morning, but it’s now rather sunny out! Luckily I only did one small spritz so it’s not cloying.
Smelling great! I really like that one even though it leans quite masculine on me.
Love Grand Soir! You smell nice!
It’s Francesca Bianchi Sticky Fingers for me today, for Pantone 17-1340, Adobe. The juice is a good bit lighter, but the warm, spicy patchouli is definitely a match. Lovely! ❤️
W00t! This one does not have the skanky body odor present in so many of her perfumes.
Happy Friday Eve, everybody! I’m in vintage Vol de Nuit EDC, sprayed lightly because of a meeting with a paint estimator earlier this morning. Have finally selected new paint colors for the main rooms and hallways in the house, and there was a LOT to be measured, much of it at heights that are scary … hence hiring someone else to do it. ?
Good call on hiring out the scary measuring job!
I think the best thing of finally becoming financially stable is hiring people to do the scary jobs!
Vintage Vol de Nuit — you smell wonderful! And congrats on the paint color selection. We’re in the final final stage of putting our house back together after last year’s plumbing disaster, and the paint colors I chose look amazing! Best of luck with your project!
Robin, you smell wonderful. Aura is so much fun to wear – it has for me the smell-good factor while at the same time being oddball. I slightly prefer the Eau Sensuelle or the edt version, but when my edp mini gets the thunk, I might just track down a pre-L’Oreal bottle. Sotd was indecision – finally grabbed Esprit d’Oscar which had too much citrus for me. I think I need to switch to Lolita Lempicka L. as EdO fades away. Burr, chilly all day except when moving about.
Is there a L’oreal version? I assumed they discontinued it since you can’t find Aura in stores around here now.
Lillyjo, I have no actual information about this, but I heard some rumors that some Muglers won’t be the same after the buyout. I for sure have no insider source. But being a person with many wonderful vintage and older perfumes I always try to find “first editions.” Our small town Macy’s never even got Aura at all, though they did have the Mugler Fountain for Alien and Angel.
I originally read “too much circus” and I figuratively scratched my head ?
I know some people for whom “too much circus” describes their personal life!
LOL you guys!
It is fun, and I should have tried the Eau Sensuelle.
National Apple Day? That’s a good reminder for me to get more SweeTango apples the next time I go to Wegman’s. They were delicious and crisp! ?
Another terrible night of sleep. I wonder if carb heavy meals could be the culprit? I was yawning and couldn’t keep my eyes open on the couch, but when I got to bed I didn’t drop off. Annoying!
SOTD = bounced back to No. 5 L’eau today. Definitely liking this one more than Eau Premiere, so that’s telling me where the perfume $$ ought to go. It’s funny, because I thought my first Chanel would have been No. 19 EdT.
Oh your first Chanel! Fun!
Aw, you’re making me blush!
I also had a terrible sleep last night, but had a salad for dinner. Maybe it was just the day?
Tongue in cheek suggestion: maybe it was the full moon? IDK. Hoping we both get decent ZZZZZZZ’s tonight.
I am rooting for L’Eau!
Heh. Donatella and I will have an interesting talk next quarter no matter what.
I do love L’Eau! My first Chanel (more years ago than I care to mention) was No. 22. I own a lifetime supply of the EDT. My other true Chanel loves are No. 19 and Cristalle, but I also enjoy Eau Premiere and L’Eau. Original No. 5 was my mother’s Chanel.
I don’t know of any non perfumistas who wear/wore Chanel in my life. One of my aunts had a bottle of Shalimar when I was growing up, and apparently that was given to her by her daughters.
Enjoy your first Chanel, whichever you choose.
Thank you Gail!
I hope tonight brings you a whole night of deep blissful sleep! And subsequent perfect clarity on which Chanel to pick. 🙂 I would have thought my first Chanel would be Cuir de Russie, but it wound up being No. 19.
Thanks Isabella! Perfumes are kind of like cats to me; they do what they will.
I woke up late today and my daughter missed the bus. Luckily I still made it to work on time. I grabbed and sprayed the first perfume I saw, which was The Body Shop White Musk Smokey Rose. On my lunch I applied Angelique Noire from the purse stash.
You’re definitely getting an enabler pin soon!
Looking forward to it!
Nice purse stash! Wanna trade?
I try to only have decants of perfumes that I really love in my purse. Plus a couple that will do fine in a pinch. I rotate them every few months.
How did they layer?
The AN totally took over. It became the star!
I wore Escentric 2 to work today. On my way home I stopped at Lush to buy shower gel and spritzed on Shade, their new sandalwood scent. The notes say sandalwood and guaicwood, but on my skin it reads as slightly burnt caramel and lavender?
It’s nice, but it’s not the sandalwood I was hoping for. Oh well, I smelled good as I drove home.
Oh, I need to smell this. Maybe I’ll stop by the store tomorrow.
So does your Lush store only let you smell things through your mask, and then make you use hand santizer every time you touch something? I did not realize this was the rule when I went in…
I didn’t have to sanitize every time I touched something, just when I came into the store. But yes, mask up the whole time.
Thanks.
SOTD = Les Indomedables Vanille Havane
Fruity boozy chocolate tobacco vanilla leather – what’s not to love ❤️?

I’m in Root Beer again!
In other news, people do need to take what they hear with the right context. Imagine if you just walked in on a Zoom call, did not see what is being shared and only heard “Joe, wiggle!” (person’s name was changed to protect the innocent). Oh my!!! In reality, a mock up with many columns was being shown on a screen and the facilitator just asked the person sharing his screen to wiggle his mouse pointer to help direct our attention to the correct part of the screen. My opinion: the mock up has too much info, never mind the wiggling!
Lol!
???!
Can you say “double entendre”?
Was testing Robert Piguet Bandit EdP today. I also have a sample of the EdT (thanks to a WONDERFUL NSTer <3). But when I have a choice between the EdT and EdP of the same perfume I will always go for the latter first… Thoughts on it? Very deep, very perfume-y and soapy. Aldehydes maybe? Most people of today could think it is very vintage smelling so it would take a perfume connoisseur to really enjoy it's beauty – at least I would imagine. Will test the EdT later.
Very late post but I am really enjoying everyone’s fall choices lately! I’m in BV Eau de velours today since I wasn’t doing patient cared at work today. Sweet dreams if you’re still up reading!
