Wednesday scent of the day 9/22

Posted by Robin on 22 September 2021 204 Comments

It's Hump Day, Hobbit Day, and the Autumn Equinox (or the Spring Equinox, if you're in the southern hemisphere). What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in L'Eau de L'Artisan for Kermit, singing Rainbow Connection in the swamp in the first Muppet Movie, 1979.

Reminder: 9/24 is the birth date of Jim Henson and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Wear whatever fits for whatever reason — scent a muppet or a Fitzgerald character, maybe? (Extra reading: We Deserve The Muppet Great Gatsby at The Verge.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy fall or spring everyone! It’s 55F here with a gusty north wind and buckets of much-needed rain, ahhhh. After our hot swampy summer, the cool is what I love about fall. Wearing my beloved Memoirs of a Trespasser, a new sweatshirt and cozy socks.

We are expecting buckets of rain overnight, I believe, with a flash flood warning, but looks like we have a few more weeks before I will be in the sweats & cozy socks 🙂

    Its Fall Y’all!

Shalimar l’initial (a sample from the ultimate NST enabler)
Not sure what is the difference between this new sample and the older Shalimar Initial the came out with. Smell the same to me, just a different name maybe.

I am doing Shalimar all week. The initial is nice when I need a break from the Queen herself 😉

Black Kate Spade skirt and black boat neck Uniqlo top today and Dior eyeshadow

I’m in Maria Candida Gentile Lankaran Forest. This is from a new decant. I’ve had a decant of this before, and it hasn’t been a favorite. However, this time I totally love it. Go figure.

My relationship to fall changed when I forced myself to think of it as an extension of summer rather than the dreaded lead-in to winter ?

Meteorological fall is usually figured as September 1 – November 30, and certainly, there is nothing to dislike about September, it is indeed an extension of summer in my region, and often nicer than summer. October is fine, usually, and often we get a spell of summer weather.

November, it’s my birthday month but I have little good to say about it 🙂

My favorite season as well, and more thankful for it than ever because is seems to be getting truncated by the lingering heat of summer and early appearance of winter. It’s a season that is becoming an endangered species. ??

Wearing Fils de Dieu, ultimate transitional scent.

I was poking around on the internet, just for fun, and found that Miss Piggy released a perfume! It was called (of course) Moi, and was a big floral (no surprise). That is clearly the holy grail for the CP, and it made me laugh.

I’m also channeling Kermit in FM Synthetic Jungle. Green and springy with a modern sensibility; I think it’s perfectly named. I’ve seen reviews that say it lasts forever, but I’m struggling to smell it after about 5 hours. Maybe I’ll try a stronger dose next time.

Well, the Autumn Equinox and our weather are definitely in agreeance. Is that a word? It stays. Clear blue sky and 72 degrees. Taking the Wild One for a walk before she goes in to get groomed.

I’m in Initio Atomic Rose, same as yesterday. This has serious staying power. I can still smell it on my clothes from yesterday. Not sure it’s FB worthy, but I’ll enjoy my sample.

Agreeance is indeed a word, although a fairly archaic one at this point. Still, you get to use it. One of the beauties of the English language is that we have all these suffixes (mostly from French or Latin) that we can attach to words to make new words, and have been doing for a long time. If you want to say “agreeance” instead of “agreement” or “evolvement” instead of “evolution”, well, you go right ahead!

Trying a sample of Allsaints Sunset Riot today. Beautiful woody freshness. The pepper gives it, not quite a sparkle, but a sustained pop. Some sweetness from the floral and amber notes but not sweet-sweet. In the same vein as BR540 but not a dupe. This is fresher. Not necessarily brighter. This feels like a welcome flick of ice cold water on a hot day, whereas BR540 is more airy to me. This one also feels more immediate and engaging, whereas BR540 seems more elusive. It’s great!

Aww, Rainbow Connection is one of my and my son’s favorite bedtime lullaby songs. There’s been a lot that’s surprising about motherhood, but one of the nicer surprises is how much singing is involved…

It’s technically not autumn here until about lunchtime, so I’m celebrating the last hours of summer in rather a lot of Le Chevrefeuille, doing GIS work on my sunny back porch, barefoot in a Reformation sun dress, and hoping they never force me back into the office.

Saffron Troublant for me today. This is usually a very dry, minimally sweet scent on me but today I’m getting a bit more sweet. I’m not mad about it, either!

Thanks to the person who recommended The Stranger Diaries. I downloaded it yesterday, enjoying it quite a bit. Didn’t realize this is the same author as another series I started.

    Stay well!

Lillyjo, I know it doesn’t help, but that’s very common. Have your tried any over the counter meds..? Like Tylenol or ibuprofen, if not contraindicated? I felt horrible after my second shot too, but a couple ibuprofen had me right back to normal after a couple hours.

Just want to say I think you’re incredibly brave to have gotten the vaccine because I know you were quite anxious about it. Do something nice for yourself to recognize the Wonder Woman that you are! ✌?

My sympathies for your discomfort. My first shot (AZ), my arm hurt for six whole days, but the second (Pfizer), I was back to normal the next day. And I had flu-like muscle aches for exactly twelve hours both times, so I guess now I can set my watch by my immune response. I hope you’re back to normal soon. It was worth it, though, right?

I didn’t have side effects with shot 2, but did have a very helpful nurse who gave me tips to cut down on the arm/shoulder pain so it was much less painful and didn’t last as long as shot 1.

Dunno if it’s too late to help, but do a “wax on / wax off” in both directions with your injection arm. Apply a cold compress (cold washcloth) to the injection site as needed. And 6 hrs after injection, it’s okay to take pain relief.

Hope you are quickly on the mend!

My arm was sore as well (for both shots). I used a flexible ice pack (mine is a Sponge Bob) on the injection site and it was better after the 2nd day. I also felt a bit tired after the 2nd shot.

I’ve recently been reading about the songwriter/singer/actor Paul Williams – he co-wrote ‘Rainbow Connection’. Another song he wrote the lyrics for with Barbra Streisand as composer is ‘EverGREEN”. I think Kermit could do a nice cover version. ??

Cristalle EDT is today’s scent. I’m feeling a bit cranky that it’s been discontinued so the Muppet I identify with is Oscar the Grouch!

I’ve been watching You Tube perfume review channels in Spanish to help me brush up – it helps to listen to something you are interested in!

It’s interesting the catalogs they have in Mexico, Fuller & Stanhome – I’m guess they are like Yves Rocher? But not sure. Also a dupe site called “SENZ” gets a lot of love. Anyone know what the US equivalent of SENZ would be?

if SENZ is a dupe site then the closest would be Dossier and Alt, which does impressions of popular perfumes; sometimes they will do riffs off of them, like flankers.

Providence Perfume Company Branch & Vine, to go with Robin’s Rainbow Connection Kermit!

The Muppet Movie came out when I was five, and we had the record. My mom used to make us sing all the songs when we were driving places in the car. As a mother now, I used to sing this all the time with my daughter, too. (Though these days I find myself singing “Movin’ Right Along” with her a lot more, trying to get her to get going…)

    Happy Autumn Equinox!

    1) Shaky workout today – my migraine usually has after effects on my balance, so I was on the reformer today, then a quick bout of weights. Very shaky, but as I went on my senses started to sort out.

    2) SOTD: A combo of Ambery Saffron ( the BR540 dupe that is better than the OG) and LM Creme Brulee. I smell rather lovely and fall adjacent, if I do think so myself.

    3) Run to Trader Joe’s and get the Brazillian Body Butter! It’s supposed to be a Bum Bum cream dupe. After rubbing it on my own bum bum, I can say that it smells really nice- lightly musky sweet and coconutty- and absorbs in quickly. This would also make a very nice manicure cream.

I’m the warm and cozy Idole from Lubin, and I need warm and cozy right now. I’ve been visiting my mother and we had a lovely time, but marred by cat worries. Our handsome Deuc has not come back after nearly three weeks, and then Phaedra disappeared for a day and a half. She came back at midnight last night, which is a huge relief.
I was so anxious to get home yesterday to try and find Phaedra, but my flight was cancelled – engineering issues. My mother was very surprised to see me again for another night. Back home today, I hope.

First day of Fall was truly the first day of Fall in my neck of the woods: high 50’s, rainy all day! A junior hummingbird sat on my feeder for quite a while (it is under my porch roof) puffed up to about ping pong ball size for dryness and warmth, sipping occasionally and seeming to be getting up the nerve to fly south. SotD Embruns d’Ylang. I just got it and I love it and it makes me anticipate my upcoming trip to the Florida panhandle.

Wearing Boy on this not quite Fall day (weather-wise), still very warm!

I just took a walk with a coworker I haven’t seen since March last year. It was lovely! Makes all the hassle of coming to the office worth it. We chatted about how the last time we saw each other, we were alarmed that there was 2 Covid cases in our county. Ooh boy, if we had only known!

We’ve had 4 on our floor since July…and our floor is considered small. I’m pretty sure they were people on the other side as we got emails but none of us were told we have to quarantine.

    Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/AFj0qmBMBa4?list=RDAFj0qmBMBa4

Technology issues today. First, the cable TV had all of our HD channels suddenly become unavailable overnight. Turns out that the reliable cable converter box we’d had for years wasn’t HDTV compatible anymore. Then there was a brief Internet outage when I tried commenting earlier this afternoon. A new converter box has fixed the TV issue. I guess the Internet thing was a fluke?

And Spooky has decided to be super picky about her wet food. After I bought a 12 pack of food she had previously eaten with enthusiasm. I’m debating beating my head against the wall…

SOTD = Atelier Cologne Encens Jinhae, from the sample stash. Getting low on this one. But that simply tells me it is time to bring out more incense perfumes. Can’t go wrong with those.

Sorry for the tech issues and cat finickiness! I hope they are resolved going forward.

Do you happen to have any favorite incense frags? I’m woefully lacking in this category but think I need to do some sampling!

Today’s tech stuff seems to be resolved with a minimum of fuss, yay! But the cat finickiness will purr-sist, alas.

I have 3 incense perfumes that I LURVE! Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant, Tauer’s LAdDM, and SSS Incense Pure. I’m always up for sniffing more, though.

Spooky sounds an awful lot like a certain 6-year-old I know, who recently begged for pistachios and then promptly decided he didn’t like them after I bought about two pounds of them…

One of Spooky’s nicknames is “Brat”. Sometimes she lives up to (or down to) it!

I had to chuckle a bit at your pistachio tale. I wouldn’t have any problems at all eating 2 pounds, which could be considered a problem of another kind, if you get my drift.

You should sign up for the Atelier emails. They seem to run sales during every few months. Just in case you decide you need more.

Did you end up trying the cat probiotic to, um, firm up Spooky’s intestinal situation? My cats go nuts for it, even when it is in a cat food flavor they have decided is passe. Maybe it would work similarly on Spooky?

I just got the Probiotic in a box from Chewy.com today, so I haven’t run the experiment yet. But soon!

What with all the talk of Kermit and Cristalle, I’m in the latter, in EdP. Which as far as I know, was discontinued 20 years ago. Fortunately I have the 100 ml bottle with plenty left, so no need for a BUB. It smells extra floral and less emerald-cut green in today’s muggy and not-so-hot equinox weather.

Judging by the forecast fall is on its way here. 70s all through October. Open windows weather sounds great. We shall see…

Crazy that the end of September is near.

I’m kinda wondering where September has gone, too! This year has flown by.

Jan through March didn’t fly by. I think we just forget by time the weather actually gets nice. Lol.

Wearing a few sprays of Chergui today; the color of the juice matches closer to Animal or Elmo. A great fall transition scent!

My sister had a Kermit when we were kids; I used to “borrow” him once in awhile and keep him in my room until she figured it out.
