Happy Friday, and happy (almost) Labor Day Weekend! Our community project for today: take a break from community projects and wear what you want.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project. (Although really, if you're here, you're participating, right?)
I went with Kenzo Air, for no particular reason except that I hadn't worn it lately.
Reminder: 9/10 is Karl Lagerfeld's birthday. Wear a Karl Lagerfeld fragrance, or a fragrance from his stints at other fashion houses (Chloe, Chanel, etc). Or, wear a fragrance he wore (scroll down, although I am sure he wore other fragrances as well...feel free to investigate).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Radishes and beets! One could make a fabulous summer salad with that as a base…
SOTD = The first perfume Comme Des Garcons did for Stephen Miller. I like this a lot, and the only reason I have bought a bottle of it, is I really don’t like black bottles sitting on my dresser like little black holes absorbing light and good vibes…. weird little thing to be neurotic about, huh? I will probably just keep getting decants of this.
Happy beginning of Labor Day Weekend, here in the US. I am on-call, so not sure how much weekend I will really have – I got paged twice last night, once at 11:30 PM and once at 12:45 AM. They were easy and I fell back to sleep quickly each time, but, I am a person who needs good blocks of uninterrupted sleep! Hopeful the residents doing the ER cases over the weekend will be people who know what they are doing….
But for the moment, drinking Vietnamese style coffee, with sweetened condensed milk, yum yum, since I am out of regular milk. I swear, I did not run out on purpose, but this is so good.
have not bought a bottle…I am trying to think positive, but I can’t just go dropping “no” words from sentences if I want to make sense. 🙂
Oh wow, I’ve never had coffee with sweetened condensed milk but that sounds delicious.
It is indeed delicious! ?
I occasionally treat myself to coffee with sweetened condensed milk, it’s another level of delicious!
Those are prime for pickling! I like to add pickled radishes to a summer rice bowl, with peas, asparagus, and tofu. A great recipe is below.

Interesting! Thanks for the link.
Sure! Here’s another great link from the Spice House.

I was going to wear Shalimar Souffle today, but accidentally sprayed Shalimar edp instead. The funny thing is, it took me a bit to realize it. I kept thinking ” gosh I’ve been wrong, Souffle really does smell like Shalimar ” lol, I had to go back and check what I had actually sprayed. It all worked out though, I smell great and was not wrong!
I am working the next 4 days. I wish everyone a safe and peaceful Labor Day.
That’s funny! Your nose is well developed, actually to have noticed the difference…
My mind was just trying to trick me! ( as it often does)
You smell great! I hope your work weekend zips by! Is your daughter feeling okay today??
She’s doing ok, just sluggish. She’s just now getting up. I promised to take her to the mall before work so hopefully she will perk up.
Either way, you smell marvelous!
Yay for mistakes that work out! I hope your long weekend goes well, lillyjo, in spite of it being a working one.
I have never loved the original Shalimar, but I do have a bottle of the Parfum Initial version that I happily wear.
? You smell wonderful of course, I enjoy both for different reasons.
Good luck for an easy long working Labor Day weekend.
*if long
I hope your shifts pass quickly and uneventfully lillyjo!
Ah..shalimar! you sprayed the right one IMHO
Hope you have a calm easy weekend at work. 🙂
You will be Labor Day weekend working twins with my brother. I hope that things will be smooth and uneventful for both of you.
I figured, Labour Day, all right, what scent have I gone through the most effort to obtain? Nothing came to mind, so I decided to wear the one that I travelled farthest to buy, and that would be SL Feminité du Bois, which I bought in Narita Airport as we were leaving Tokyo in 2012. It’s *so* good, a massive pile of cedar festooned with the usual Lutens fruit and spices. It has a lot of moving parts but it smells very straightforward, something I love — all the pieces fitting together into a unified whole.
That’s a nice memory-scent connection! Have you ever compared a current version of FdB with yours?
No, I never have. I remember when the original Shiseido version was out in that striking bottle but I never tried it, and I haven’t tried a tester or a sample from more recent years: mine is just an island in a sea of versions.
I’m in Tam Dao.?♀️
I slept like a rock last night! Good thing because I have a big day ahead of me. Today is the day we take my older daughter back to college. She is packing as we speak. That procrastination gene runs strong. Lol. We are making a family weekend out of it just as we did last year. We have the cutest little Airbnb booked for 2 nights. I found last year that having this weekend to look forward to, helped to offset the sadness I felt about saying goodbye to my daughter. I’m feeling pretty good today actually. No sadness at all! (Yet!) She’s been home for almost 4 months and we’ve had such a lovely summer. Plus, she’ll b home again over Christmas break.☺️
You smell wonderful and have a safe trip!
Thanks MossyBerry!?
Have a great trip! Hope the traffic isn’t too bad.
Thanks lillyjo! We take the “back way” which is a pretty drive and no freeway traffic.??
Enjoy the ride! Love back roads.
Thanks! Me too. It takes a bit longer this way but is so much more enjoyable. We go through the driftless area which is so beautiful.
Safe travels!
Thanks Jalapeño!?
Wearing SL Chergui from my sample again. I know I at least like this perfume, but I think next I need to get a slightly larger sample with a atomizer so I can properly spray the perfume instead of just pouring a few drops on each arm…
Spritzing usually works out to be nicer.
It really does!
You have inspired me to drag out the bottle. Thanks!
You are welcome! I’m really enjoying it today!
Wearing Hermes Brin de Reglisse.
Sunny, breezy and chilly morning. On my second cup of coffee with toasted Italian bread, salami and olive oil, inspired by ltsg yesterday.
I will have my foot cast removed today and then I will be in a boot for at least two more weeks. PT to follow.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy Friday! ?
YAY for cast removal. Good luck with it PL67.
Love Brin de Reglisse, sounds like you’ve got a perfect day for it.
Portia x
Thank you, Portia! Brin de Reglisse is a favorite and perfect for this beautiful day! Hugs!
Congratulations on the cast removal! Hope it’s a great weekend for you!
Thank you, Lillyjo!
I hope your weekend is not so hectic and you find some time to rest after is over!
I gave serious thought to BdR this morning! Maybe tomorrow.
BdR matches this weather perfectly! You will smell great tomorrow!
We’ re sisters one day apart with cast removal? enjoy the freedom.
Thank you, Aurora! I hope you are enjoying yours already! ?
Yay for cast removal!
?
Oh, boots make bathing So Much Easier! Big congrats on your cast removal.
Thank you, Nancy! It is a relief to be out of the cast already. Looking forward to a more proper bath later tonight! ?
Wishing you and your foot a speedy and healing recovery.?
Thank you, Laila! ?
Shoot! You really did a number on yourself.
Hope your cast off makes you smile!
??
Yay for the cast removal! Enjoy being free!
Thank you Gail! ?
Big congrats on getting your cast removed! I had a walking cast when I was a kid, and the day I got that off was a Very Good Day indeed!
Thank you, Jalapeno! It feels much better despite wearing a boot!
Un Jour d’Ete by Keiko Mecheri tonight. Tropical floral with vanilla undertow. I’ve been craving it lately, maybe because spring is here and the weather is beautiful.
Not much news from lockdown in Sydney. We really thought we’d dodged the bullet till Delta came and changed the game.
I’m enjoying the enforced stillness.
Portia x
Put that way, Enforced Stillness sounds downright lovely. https://louderminds.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/introverts-unite-e1472018729952.png
HA HA HA! Kpaint, that graphic is perfect.
I’ve always said to my friends that I’m an introvert who extroverts in company.
Portia x
I always wanted to try your sotd. It sounds really nice.
It is lillyjo, brings a smile to my face every time.
Portia x
Not sure I’d heard of your SOTD before.
Hey Jalapeño,
Un Jour d’Ete came in my very first LuckyScent curated grab bag of samples. Do they still do those? Up to that point I’d been buying from the decanters like Perfumed Court and Posh Peasant. Suddenly it felt like my finger was on the pulse of new, just released, impossible to find in Australia. So it really is the scent of exploration for me.
Portia xx
I’m in Eau D’Italie Acqua Decima, which is already pretty faded. I just got a decant this week, and this is my first time to wear it. I like it, but I hope it lasts longer than an hour.
Good luck!
I just applied Hermann A Mes Cotes Me Paraissait Une Ombre because the Acqua Decima is long gone. I’ve never worn the Hermann before. I think I really like it. We’ll see with the dry down. Hopefully it will last more than a minute.
Fast fade twins today. My MFK has disappeared. ?
Niki de saint Phalle today, because it’s Friday and it lifts my mood every time I wear it. Happy weekend
And it’s a marvelous scent! Galbanum and marigold are a great combination. 🙂
You smelled great today.
TGIF!
Sotd is Candy. After yesterday’s scrubber episode I am reaching for something safe ? I think this is my 3rd bottle… Like most of us here we have more than enough perfumes to last a few lifetimes so while I do love Candy, how did I manage to use up so much? ?♀️ (Not that I am complaining of course)
IKR? I’m always a bit stunned when I, like, run out of a perfume because I wear it a lot. LOL
My bottle of Candy empties itself 5x the normal amount. The sprayer never worked and the store had a no refund policy.
I don’t reach for it much because it is like a bath 1st spritz.
Really feels like fall here today in NJ. My son and his girlfriend are flying in today for a Sunday night wedding. I’m super excited for their visit. I hit the big 6-0 on Monday and know my mother is always extra tickled when my birthday falls on Labor Day! I’m looking forward to my parents’ call on Monday to hear the “labor story” haha. I am very happy to celebrate that and Rosh Hashanah! I’m wearing Strange Invisible Virgo!
Very cheering to read about families being together, especially at Holiday times. Happy Birthday, and I love your Mother’s sense of humor – that joke never gets old from those who have the right to tell it!
Happy belated birthday! ?
Happy Birthday, ‘labor story’ lol
Happy birthday!
Wishing you a Happy Birthday ? and Happy Celebrations and family times! ?
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to a fellow Virgo!???
Off to check out your sotd.
Happy Belated Birthday! ???
Oooops. I misread your post, and thought that you had already celebrated.
A quick note although maybe everybody but me already knew — Luckyscent has Goutal now, although not all of it and not the new LEs.
Thank you for sharing this great Goutal news Robin and for posting a photo of beets which inspired me to wear a beety blast of CdG Rouge.
🙂
And they have Le Chevrefeuille!!
I thought of you when I saw Le Chevrefeuille!
again, I continue to fall into thinking this is a flaky pastry.
😀
Saw that and was briefly tempted!! Can’t get over the new luxury price.
And there’s that.
I love you❤
I didn’t know! Thanks for the heads up.
Really? Oh, I need Le Chevrefeuille but those prices!!
Beautiful weather here in Southern Indiana – not too Fall like, more like a Summer day with low humidity. I’m going to go outside and pick a few weeds, pick up a few sticks, and trim a branch or two, but no sweaty work today. SotD Shalimar Philtre de Parfum. I’ve been enjoying Pixel’s Splitmeet share so much.
Oooh, I’d been eyeing that Shalimar. Can you throw out some descriptors? Do I need it (in my vast Shalimar collection?)
It is a most excellent Shalimar. But I am not sure of my ability to compare it to an ultimate Shalimar. I think it is more citrus and vanilla; the powder is lighter. The vanilla is of the hefty kind, that might suggest the animalics of older versions. I was very fond of the lemon pastry Shalimar that was 1980’s edt, and maybe I’d go so far as to say Philtre is a not too sweet pastry. I think some NST’ers saw a connection to Le Lion? I’ll report again – I should compare it to Souffle Intense, which I also really liked but can’t call up at the moment. Rambling on, it occurs to me that I liked it so much I did not want to hold back and see if it turns up at the discounters!
Okay, sold! Thank you ?
It sounds like a lovely day, hope the weather will remain the same for your long weekend.
Oh, I remember southern Indiana in the fall — it’s lovely, at least around Brown County. It’s been many many years, but I remember hills and trees in colour and old barns. Enjoy the long weekend!
Beautiful weather twins today!
I have finally started populating the PERFUME CABINET. A fun thing to do while stuck inside due to smoke. It’s supposed to clear ‘tomorrow’ which is a forecast we’re getting quite accustomed to.
I must say I didn’t think of myself as a Guerlain fangirl until I put all the bottles together…! And this is just the summer scents, ha. I think I’ll go with AA Bergamote Calabria for my exciting morning of running errands. Just the thing for Home Depot.
Yay – the PERFUME CABINET. Can’t wait to see pics.
Sounds perfect 🙂 Can’t wait for pics!
I had the same surprised realization when I grouped all my Hermes bottles and decants together. I knew I had a lot of Chanels, but never quite grasped how many Hermes scents I’d fallen for.
Eagerly awaiting pics!
Serge Lutens was my big surprise, when I did an organization by house. I was late to the party, and only have SL’s since 2013, but even these new versions, plus some of 2012 – on releases take me to my happy place. The fabulous Clair de Musc, L’Orpheline and a couple others in the 50ml bottles are still languishing at the discounters, I might add.
I’m very excited to see the PERFUME CABINET too! At least you can be productive and do something fun while being stuck inside. I hope the smoke situation goes away soon.
We will be Home Depot twins. Have to fix the sliding glass door latch. My hubby was taking out the screws holding the latch-thingy (my technical terms). I was holding the latch itself with pliers, but when he went to grab them from me to jiggle it out from the door, the latch itself fell down INSIDE the door. Oops! He tried to get it out from inside the door for an hour, all to no avail! That was fun, not! Hoping we can find the proper sized piece.
Hurray for getting your things inside the PERFUME CABINET!
Happy FriYAY! I did sleep better last night (thanks for all the kind words yesterday). And will try to get lots done at work today so I can relax this weekend. Started off the day with a good yoga class.
I’m in AG Eau d’Hadrien and I have a fun story about that. I was online shopping and perusing various fragrance sites, adding things to my cart and taking them out (as one does) and had that urge to buy something. Something small and something new. I found a very small Borsari Acqua Classica and remembered reading about that somewhere; also had a mini Eau d’Hadrien in the bag, removed that and ordered. And later panicked because I did some more reading and decided the Borsari was likely not my thing. My order arrived a day ago and it was the AG Eau d’Hadrien! I checked my order and they were correct, that’s what I ordered, alright. And I love it–so not only a sort of unsniffed buy (at least not sniffed for years) but also an unintended buy that worked out!
Ha! Your brain knew what you wanted even if your mind tripped up ?
AG Eau d’Hadrien is perfect! I’m glad you got a great night’s sleep! How was the yoga?
The yoga was very good (livestreamed) and makes me realize I do miss my in person classes although I get by pretty well with the recorded ones.
Oh cool! I miss in-person classes too. They are a little flat, if that makes sense.
I, too, have enjoyed virtual yoga – and virtual tai chi and virtual Zumba. Yes, nothing beats ‘in person’ but ?Zoom; it has been a lifesaver for me!
I read comments late yesterday – I’ve been bad sleep twin. Yay for your rest in time to have fun for the long weekend! That was funny about the online shopping. I have had the sad opposite a time or two, and learned to just log out if I’ve done too much switching. :/
I wish I had appreciated how easy it was to sleep when I was younger. It’s certainly not a one time issue for me. Still, we soldier on, right?
Yes! We do our best!
SP, I found a blog called Yoga for Times of Change, written by Nina Z. She has several blog posts on insomnia.
https://www.yogafortimesofchange.com/looking-sleepy-by-tsukioka-yoshitoshi/
Thank you, ST! I appreciate it and will check them out. (I’m looking forward to fall weather and FENDI edt!)
Yay for good sleep and your 6th perfume sense!
Glad you got a better sleep last night.
I got myself a ‘hug sleep’ pod and it sure seems to help me sleep through the night. It applies light pressure around you so you feel snuggly and it seems to keep me from tossing and turning. I’m not affiliated but am a happy customer.
Interesting – I’ll look this up.
Jealous of the SOTD-I love that one and should of snagged it when Goutal store was still here..I guess I can lurk on other websites..
Glad you got some sleep, and for your happy mistake! 🙂
SOTD: Blue Agava & Cacao
Still drying off from this week’s storm but happy to be heading into a 3-day weekend. And the weather looks amazing!
You smell wonderful!
In Bois des Iles EDP just because.
Have a hair appointment today with a new stylist. This is after having gone to another stylist twice, who I wasn’t at all crazy about, so was not despondent when I got a call from the salon telling me that she was “no longer there.” (I’m assuming she got fired – otherwise she’d have called her clients to let them know she was leaving?)
I have curly hair (and am currently wearing it curly and short – a bit like Ruth Negga’s short looks) which most stylists don’t know how to cut, so we’ll see how things go.
I have lived in 3 different regions of the country in the last 3 years and finding a new hair stylist is always a PITA (really, it was tough even when I lived in the same city for 15 years.) That, and finding new medical providers. I am a person who spends a lot of time at doctors’ officers due to a couple of medical conditions I deal with, and I have gotten the worst medical care of my life here where we are living currently. I don’t think I am (though I may be) comparing it to the superlative care I got at the Cleveland Clinic (that place is an outlier) but rather to the generally shitty care I’ve gotten my entire life.
Bad haircuts are much more tolerable than bad doctoring, so no worries if I don’t look any better walking out of the salon than when I walked in :/ And I can always go back to a pixie if I can’t find someone good. Just about anyone can pull off a decent pixie.
Enjoy the long weekend, those of you who celebrate, and have some time off!
kpaint, you smell marvelous! You remind me that it’s just about time to bring up some early fall favorites from the vault!* I always associate Bois des is Iles with fall.
I am feeling your pain with bad haircuts and sub-par medical care. My doctor (and/or her office) have screwed up my prescriptions the last 3 out of 4 times. Time to switch!
And hair…I’m tempted to go back to a pixie also, lol!
*aka basement fridge
I think that if there *is* a heaven, it’s a place where we can lock in a good hair stylist, doctor, dentist, gynecologist, and mechanic FOR EVER. I’ve never had more than three of the above list in place at the same time. I have curls, too, and fortunately like my current hair stylist. Hope your new one can work some magic!
Haha, so right!
This made me LOL
YES!
I think, if there ‘is’ a heaven, there would be an abundance of great hair stylists for when we want a change, but there would be no doctors, dentists, gynecologists, or mechanics because, well, we’re in HEAVEN – we are healed and never get sick and nothing ever breaks, forever! ?
Oh, that’s much more rational than my idea! Although, in my dad’s idea of heaven there are lots of motorcycle engines that need to be repaired…
Loved this!
Finding a good hair cutter is a pain. Especially shorter hair.
Yes, it takes a special touch to shape shorter hair. One stylist I had years ago was amazing with shorter cuts. She’s in Sf, and not affordable, but the few times she styled my kinky/curly hair, it was simply amazing. I may go back to her at some point when work slows down.
Totally agree about finding a person who can work with your hair. Mine is fine and curly (and often frizzy) and at the moment I’m just not bothering to get it cut.
You do smell wonderful.
My hair is the same as yours, plus very densely packed. My grave disappointment with stylist 1 is that at my first haircut she did ZERO stripping, all while bragging about how great she was with curly hair.
Next cut, I emphasized that the primary goal was to reduce volume. Every time she thought she was done, I told her to keep going. That time I got much closer to what I wanted.
SP-do you have a Trader Joe’s near you? I found a hair serum by TJ’s, Coconut/Shea hair serum. Cheap as chips and amazingly good for controlling frizz!
I stopped having my hair cut because I was so frustrated trying to find a good stylist. As for doctors, thankfully I am pretty healthy because I haven’t found anyone really good in years, and now that I’ve moved I have to start looking again. Totally agree with Isabella’s post!
I hear you on the hair stylist. I’ve been going to the same one for about 10 years, she is so good with short hair. My hair is straight, so how hard can it be, I thought. But no, no-one does it like Kiri 🙂
I have mostly straight hair, too. But I do have a few wild hairs that do their own thing, plus a cowlick. I’ve stayed with my stylist since sometime in the 1990’s because she can put some much needed volume in my hair.
Hair and doctors — I am with you! And I haven’t really moved for 15 years. We just went through it with the hair — I had a great stylist, probably the best of my life, and she opened a salon about 10 years ago. Then about 5 years ago, she had a baby and stopped cutting hair, and no one there was as good, and I tried another highly rated salon where they kept giving me a stylist who told me she was giving me a mom cut (really? Did you have to say it? It’s really just a bob, honestly). Finding a really good stylist is hard.
And doctors are even harder, on both sides of the border, I’ve found. It shouldn’t have to be this hard!
Hey kpaint, hair is tough. Even the very best cutters and colourists have off days when the muse does not deliver. I now get my husband to shave my head with clippers of zero every so often. Yes, I know that’s not going to work for most people but it has stopped the anxiety and expense. Fingers crossed the new one is fab.
Bois des Iles = gorgeous
Portia x
It’s a sunny day before a rainy weekend, the latter being quite welcome. Wearing a classic summer choice, namely Guerlain Vetiver Pour Elle.
Enjoy (or appreciate) your rainy weekend AnnieA!
We need no more rain for a very long time so you may have it 😉
We’ve got rain here too AnnieA.
How did I never buy a bottle of Guerlain Vetiver Pour Elle. You smell fab.
Portia xx
Happy Friday.
Just came back from brining the kiddos for their first covid screening. Wasn’t pleasant but we promised TV afterwards. After that I did some errands and wanted to smell the flanker to La Vie est Belle that Hajusuuri raved about, but it wasn’t available to test at the store I was at so I am just in regular La Vie Est Belle, which isn’t as loud as I remember. Maybe reformulation.
For SmokeyToes-I am in my Chanel foundation today Les Beiges and some of the Chanel blush. Didn’t have time for much else. But I still feel chic
Felt like fall this morning to me, anyone else?
Oh, I love Chanel foundation. Which one do you like? I loved their cream in a compact foundation, the name escapes me now. Natural-looking coverage and moisturizing.
Wearing a Chanel lippie in Experimental, a coral-red, so bright and cheerful. I match my workout top, which is a bright coral pink.
It’s definitely cooler and crisper this morning! I love seasons of change…
Googling this cream compact foundation but I can’t find anything..
Yes, it’s discontinued. Probably about six years now?
Thank you for inspiring me yesterday, I was feeling down and weepy, but I showered, did my hair and makeup, and went into town. It really lifted my spirits. 🙂
I am so happy! This post made my day
Yay!
I missed that hajusuuri rec — which La Vie Est Belle was it?
Intensement.
I think it’s LVEB Intensément.
Yes that one they mentioned
Yes, the Intensement! And She-ra likes it too!
L2SM – I received my samples, I’m wearing BR 540, wow, it’s gorgeous. It is definitely like AG’s Cloud but with a gorgeous jasmine note.
I still have remnants of Coco but will wear this tomorrow for a proper test.
I am so excited!
Do report back on your proper testing tomorrow
Hello all, my SOTD is vintage Coco EDP. I oversprayed a bit, I’m wafting big time! 🙂
Putting on my walking shoes and heading out for a walk. I got a great night’s sleep yesterday, chamomile tea and a carb-laden dinner of brown rice, sauteed swiss chard, and salmon helped.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CTV1zLOloUi/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Your dinner looks wonderful, I will definitely try a version of that after next food shop.
That dinner is making my mouth water! ?
I forgot to mention that the tea is by Ahmad, it’s Vanilla, Honey, & Chamomile. I like it with a generous splash of vanilla soy milk.
Keeping the world at bay with the newish Nuxe Neroli oil…quite nice…and burning a B&BW Limoncello candle.
Take that, world!????
Oo, I’ve been very curious about the Neroli oil — is it very neroli-y?
It has good oomph in the opening…will pay attention to when it peters out w/ my next wearing but thing i could smell it for a couple hours maybe.
Candle twins! I am also burning the Limoncello from BBW! ?
I am loving that neroli oil too! Layered it under Neroli Outrenoir.
Did someone say Limoncello..
?
How is that new Nuxe oil?
The oil had good oomph in the opening…will pay attention to when it peters out w/ my next wearing but think i could smell it for a couple hours maybe.
Geez, everyone seems to have had a great sleep last night! There must be something about Thursday nights ;P Good on you and enjoy your walk!
This was meant for SmokeyToes (and all the other well-rested people) ?
I’m in the good night’s sleep club today too. For me, it was cooler temperatures we finally got yesterday in NJ. It made the blankets all the more snuggly. 🙂
Oh, you might be on to something.
I actually threw an extra blanket on last night as it was chillier than usual.
It was a chilly 54 degrees this morning if I’m to believe my Apple Watch!
Last night I tried the Vetiver Pamplemousse that Jo Malone did for Zara and was impressed by it. Woke up this morning craving more Vetiver so (courtesy of the generous SarahN) I’m wearing SL Vetiver Oriental on one wrist, and bc I have a backlog of samples, SL Nuit de Cellophane on the other.
VP – Sheer and straight forward vetiver and grapefruit, as advertised. The grapefruit is juicy, and particularly pretty.
VO – This is bone dry vetiver and sandalwood to me, with amber and labdanum in the background. I don’t (but wish I did) get the cocoa note.
NdC – So pretty. Osmanthus, lily, fresh apricot, and mandarin to my nose. Fruit flesh, not so much the juice. I get some green, almost tea-like, notes in there too, but it is so well blended that it’s too difficult for me to identify many individual notes.
Drinking English Breakfast pumped up with some extra assam. Work has been quiet today, so I’m hoping to plow through some dusty items on my Task List and start next week with a clean slate.
I had a vetiver craving as well, so post-shower I’m in the Prada Infusion one.
Commando again today other than the leftover Musc Ravageur pleasantly wafting from my sweater sleeves (this would be from, what, two or three days ago? Stuff has staying power!). My son still has the sniffles but seems to be feeling pretty okay; poor kid is getting his first Covid test this afternoon and he has no idea how unpleasant that’s going to be. And since I’ve now come down with whatever he has, I’ll be getting tested on Sunday and having a rather more stuck-at-home holiday weekend than I’d expected. I’m vaccinated so either a random cold or a breakthrough infection — will be interesting to find out.
I have a friend who got tested yesterday and said it was less unpleasant than the last one she’d had. My other friend works for a medical lab and says it’s because they figured out the swab doesn’t need to actually touch your brain, lol. Hopefully it won’t be too bad!
That’s good to hear! It’s been a while since I last had a test but I’ve had a few that made me cry and one that left me with pain for a few hours. Hoping they’ll be gentle with my little one!
YES…the last 2 tests I had were easy peasy. Good luck Isabella!
I think they shove the swab less high now than they did at first. Hoping your tests go well and you feel better asap!
My daughter had cold symptoms the end of May when they finally went back to in person school and she tested negative for Covid and was better in a couple days. There are lots of non-Covid viruses very eager to get on w/ their business of replication too now that we humans are mingling again. 🙂 Hope you and your son have just encountered one of them and both feel better soon.
I’m sure it’s virus soup at school! The last time he was in in-person school, he got sick approximately every three weeks, which felt nuts.
Wishing you and your son good test results?.
SOTM is Chanel Eau de Cologne. It fades quickly, so in a bit I’ll switch to something different — maybe Dryad, which I meant to wear yesterday.
In other news, Mr. G and I went out our back door last evening for the first time since mid-July. The deck tear-out and rebuild included our back-door landing, so there has been a steep drop out there until recently! I’m hoping to see the handrails go on today.
Congrats on the deck progress!
Thanks, Vee! They’re out there now, pounding and drilling like crazy, and it looks like the handrails are indeed going on today — just in time for Labor Day weekend! I don’t think they’ll be completely done today (there’s still step lights to be wired and installed), but maybe they’ll surprise me!
I noticed that you had mentioned Paracelsus as a SOTD recently. ??
Yes indeed — you get full enabler points for that, Jalapeño. 🙂
It’s a beautiful fall-like day here! Such a relief, especially since I’ve been letting the world get to me lately, so I’m in an old favorite, Jean Louis Scherrer. Such a beauteous green chypre. ?
Also today, Day 1 of getting back on the meditation wagon. Bidding anxiety adieux.
Ahh, sounds like loveliness all around! May you have a long, fruitful ride on the meditation wagon!
Thank you, Isabella!
I bought Scherrer on your reccomendation I think it was Ann- it is lovely, you smell beautiful ? ?
mayfly, thanks! I’m happy to hear that you are liking it. ?
It’s gorgeous ?
You smell great, happy meditation ?♀️
Thank you, Aurora. ?
I need to get back on the meditation wagon too.
It really helps me! I really want to stick with it this time….?
I’m commando today, but yesterday my discounted (half price) bottle of Gallop arrived, and I really like it, unfortunately it only lasted a couple of hours on me, but was nice to reapply and enjoy its fruity- rosy- suede loveliness from the beginning again.
I thought being a pure parfum it would have better lasting power, or maybeim just anosmic to the Muscs in the base?
I will make a little decant to reapply when I go back to work.
Perfume has been seeing me through since my Dad died, my love of perfume has been reignited, and I’ts providing a lovely and much needed distraction.
I also bought a slightly used bottle of my beloved 31 Rue Cambon on eBay for my Dads funeral, 2 weeks ago and it is providing backbone and comfort in equal measure. Was also relieved that it’s not too different from the EDT.
It’s nice that scent is nice again providing comfort a d distraction. Certainly some good choices…I quite like Galop but don’t own it.
So glad you are finding comfort in your perfume collection, I find Galop not so long-lasting too.
I’m so glad to hear you are finding joy and comfort in your perfumes.
Thank you , it really is a good and leasurable distraction ?
We will be twins in Galop soon! I was bemoaning my dwindling decant, and its general unavailability, when someone (I wish I could remember who) put out a PSA that it was available at Off5th, so I jumped on a bottle. I hope yours will bring you comfort.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your father. When Dad passed, I purchased Happy, because that’s how he described me. I hope your perfume provides you with comfort and warm memories.
So sorry to hear about your Dad’s recent passing. My condolences.
So sorry for your loss, mayfly.
Wow, so many comments already!
I just finished breakfast (mushroom and cheddar omelet! ?) and now sitting riverside sipping my not so hot but still delicious coffee. The sun is peeking over the ridge, playing tag with leaves and rushing water. I can hear the foghorn/ship horns from the Strait of JdF, which really adds to the ambiance. It’s a beautiful morning. ?
Last night before bed I decided to refresh my Bengale Rouge to ensure some good sleep. This morning…Ooops! I did it again! I love this perfume and it could easily be my one and only, although I would fondly miss some other scents.
T-Rex has found a huge stump that seems to be the hidden gateway to the squirrel and chipmunk realm. She watches it with such focus it’s astounding to me. I don’t think she even blinks.
Happy Friday (and holiday weekend to all those in the USA)!
LOL “squirrel and chipmunk realm:” I thought it was under my garage.
Or my attic. Grrr.
Uh oh ?
Your surroundings sound beautiful and I love your description.
Thanks, but nothing compares to actually being here. Simply gorgeous. ?
LOL Mila would love to find that squirrel and chipmunk realm too! You smell great.
I think some of these squirrels might be bigger than Mila, but I’m sure she’d give them a run for their money! ?
Funny, I had a convo last night with my sister insisting that there are no chipmunks in western Washington, and she claimed there were.
I guess she’s right! Although I never saw one there, and had my first chipmunk sighting in my 40s in eastern WA.
Neotamias (Western chipmunk) – 23 existing species! ?
❤️ the beautiful description of your surroundings. Wish I was there!
And I bought a perfume named after my nemesis, Chipmunk. Those f***ears have my rascal fixated. Could handle the lawn damage…but just a year ago, my girl would be barking up a storm all day. The neighbors loved me.
Pretty sure that there is a chipmunk burrow somewhere near my patio. Every so often I see one dart across the concrete. My cats enjoy that very much!
VCA California Rêverie from an unearthed bottle. Back at going through some moving boxes and finally found one marked fragrance. Trying to get thru some boxes and make room so we can put in a garage freezer. We discovered the freezer portion of our fridge isn’t as big as we thought. Our neighbors want to get rid of theirs, which makes it easy.
Mad at myself for not remembering scents get discontinued. Looks like Guerlain Baiser de Russie no longer exists anywhere, except for two hideously expensive bottles on eBay.
Call Holt Renfrew in Vancouver, they had some last week. If they won’t ship to the US I can bring it for you.
What a gem you are! ?
Okay, never mind – I just called them and bought it to save time. Please email me at my user name at me dot com, I’ll be back in the US in 2 weeks and can send it to you then. 🙂
Wow. Thanks! I have names of people interested in splits, so this is great. I’ll email you.
I’m listening to The Monkees greatest hits and wearing MFK Aqua Celestia Cologne Forto and Aqua Universalis Cologne Forto. I discovered I have two greatest hits CDs by the pre-fab four. One might need to go?
Not a big fan of the Fortos. They are nice, have an out of the shower feel, wear close to the skin, but don’t need ‘em.
Here’s one from the boys that kinda ran under the radar:

Happy Friday y’all. ✌?
Loved the video – they seemed to be having, you know, **fun** on the job!
Isn’t that a good video? Made me a little sad, though.
Yes. That too <3.
Oh I love The Monkees! I tried to join their fan club when I was around 7 or 8 and my application got returned because they were already disbanded. I didn’t know until then I had been watching reruns! Lol.. I still listen to them.
Oh no! I’m sure you were a crestfallen little kid. I’m glad you got a response, though.
Chortled at “pre-fab four”. Can’t believe I had a crush on Davy Jones — if I were a tween now, it would be Michael Nesmith all the way. ?
Oh, I had a crush on Davy Jones, too. I actually realized after reading a teen mag that I was taller than him, and that broke my heart. ?
how is the cologne forte?
Sadly they are both meh. Citrus freshies that are done well enough but don’t last.
Our local radio station plays The Monkees now and then (which gives some clues about the demographic here…). It’s usually “I’m a Believer.” My sisters and I had it somewhat covered. I, the youngest, liked Davey. My oldest sister liked Nesmith. My middle sister, the most hippie-like, was all about Peter.
Ahh, I’m the oldest of three girls! Don’t think either of my sisters were into the Monkees.
I vaguely remember seeing their TV show on Saturday mornings, along with Scooby Doo cartoons.
And The Flintstones.
Yabba Dabba Do! ?
Feeling fabulous in my lovely Chinatown.
As for the CP if I had any I would HAPPILY wear Sun Moon Stars. Hard to have it when this is so rare and hard to find going for cosmic prices on Ebay… In my early perfumista years besides falling in the rabbit hole I used to order Sun Moon Stars or Laxroix’s Tumulte for dirt cheap.
I used to wear Sun Moon Stars, it was a good one!
Yup for sure.
Thanks for the reminder about Sun Moon and Stars; I have a bottle and although I like it I haven’t worn it in awhile, will have to pull it out. Had no idea it was rare or expensive now!
Was in Clean Reserve Sel Santal which leans masculine but I don’t find that a problem this evening I reached for my oldish Must de Cartier, I also have a half bottle of proper vintage (more animalic). In my head I always refer to Must as the green Shalimar.
Happy Friday! Cloudy with rain moving in but wearing the cheerful Amouage Love Tuberose.
I keep thinking I have this but I actually have Love Mimosa.
It’s the Niki de saint Phalle again today. Last night however, I took a trip down memory lane and dabbed on some Heaven Sent by Helena Rubinstein. Almost felt that I was in high school again ?! Picked up this vintage small bottle at Value Village here in Toronto. I’ve found them to be a treasure trove of partially used but sometimes killer vintage fragrances at unbelievably cheap prices.
Heaven Scent sure brings me back, too. Still love some powdery scents!
Vintage HR Heaven Sent is one of my favorites, loved it then and still love it now. You smell wonderful!
Oh I love Heaven Scent – one of my very first perfumes. I have a little of the vintage too – hooray for your wonderful find and for Value Village!
I feel a Value Village trip in my future! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
What a wonderful find!
My Mom had the dusting powder in the white container (with the powder puff). She would dust my sister and I after a bath when we were small kids. I loved that scent back then.
Saturday morning here, and gearing up for supermarket shopping. At least there doesn’t seem to have been quite the panic buying of toilet paper as last year – we actually need some!
A bit of anxiety here, we haven’t seen one of our cats for over 24 hours. I know some cats stay away for days at a time, but this is not usual behaviour.
Meanwhile, I’m contemplating spring perfumes, the mention of Annick Goutal’s Chèvrefeuille is quite inspiring 🙂
Oh dear. Hope Kitty resurfaces. Keep us posted.
Oh, I hope kitty comes home soon. I’ve been through that and understand your anxiety. ?
Oh no! I hope kitty comes back asap! I had cats before and I can feel your anxiety!
Uh oh. I hope that you have good kitty news soon! It’s incredibly upsetting to not know where they are.
Crossing fingers for kitty. I’d be anxious, too.
Kitty come home vibes!
Adding my good thoughts for kitty! Hope she’s home soon.
Eeek, I hope for kitty’s safe return!
Azemour today for me.
Why do long weekends these days just feel like an extra long period of fighting with my kid over her screen time? 🙂 No plans other than that for the weekend. We are oh so close to being able to actually use put things away in our kitchen. It is tantalizingly close and I want to do it, I really do, but I also know that the minute I do so the workers will need for some reason to get into that cabinet as well as the other ones that aren’t finished. Maybe just one more week?
Maybe you can tell her she’s lucky that the government doesn’t regulate screen time, at least not yet!

Ida left more of a destructive path in NJ than I originally thought! And there’s more to come tomorrow when swollen rivers crest.
I am still careful with allotting COVID risk exposure points in a given period. I have a few calendar challenges to resolve – first world problems!
I just bought a large
?sample? of a limited version of Bruno Fazzolari’s Pantoum which has orange flower, tuberose and labdanum. I will likely split this. ?
I am in for 5mls!
Me too!
And you too!
You got it!
Is your large sample purchase a blind buy? ?
What’s a blind buy? ??
Yes please! I don’t know where I’ll be shipping wise, but I’ll be *somewhere* that gets mail delivery. I think 5 ml would suit me just right! Thank you, just saw this one advertised today.
Perfect! Just let me know!
Black always reminds me of you. It seems you wore it often when I first came here.
I did … and should wear it more often!
Today is cool and cloudy with intermittent, gentle rain- and I’m lovin’ it! I thought the heat and humidity would never end! SOTD is one of my favorite September scents, the original Burberry edp (I think it’s now called Burberry Classic for Women). The peachy/woody/vanilla combo is perfect to bridge the seasons. I’ve been wearing and enjoying this one since it first came out in the mid-90’s
My grandtwins had their 14th birthdays the day after they started High School this week, each to a different school, the first time they’ve gone separate ways. And dad teaches at another high school. Looking forward to celebrating with them this weekend and hearing lots of school stories!
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead.
Busy times for your family, then.
Posting late today. I’ve actually started to tackle the Mountain of Laundry. Still not quite feeling right, and I suspect that maybe a pinched nerve could be the culprit.
SOTD = back in Encens Jinhae. I had wanted to wear Angel, which would have let me pick up the 2 CP’s that I missed. But I’m not quite ready for most perfume yet. It’s going to take time. I’m willing to wait.
Laundry has a way of suddenly *multiplying* 8o
It’s about 2.5 weeks’ worth. I had knocked it down to a single load before I had to drop everything and fly out of state. Entropy always wins with laundry, though.
Laundry is a mysterious beast. It multiplies out of all proportion to what’s worn, and then the child’s socks disappear mid-wash and turn into… the dryer lint?
LOL! It’s been a long time since any socks have done the disappearing act. I usually find them stuffed into the sleeves of long-sleeved shirts. The dryer’s work, not me!
I almost wore Angel too, it still seemed to warm for it.
I’ve worn Angel in summers past and enjoyed it. But I will admit that I was also feeling a little ornery when I did so!
SOTD in free choice: Atelier des Ors’ Choeur des Anges. I just love it, and I will receive a full bottle for my birthday soon!
Oooooh, a Birthday Bottle! Congrats!
Enjoy your Birthday Perfume! And happy birthday to a fellow Virgo; there seems to be a few of us.
Jangala for me today which was a good choice since my first client wanted eucalyptus oil added to her massage so at least I didn’t clash.
Inspired by pixel, I wore Guerlain Insolence for a trip to Home Depot. Had to get the parts to fix a patio slider door latch.
It was a struggle (to say the least). We watched a few YT videos but the issue with our door was there is additional moveable metal box inside where the lock/latch piece was to be fit in and screws matched up. After multiple screwdrivers and sweat (plus Virgo stubbornness) we finally prevailed. Yes, my hubby is also a Virgo!
