It's Monday and Slinky Day. RIP Ed Asner. What fragrance are you wearing?
After a good long spell of indecision, I ended up in Maison Francis Kurkdian Petit Matin.
Reminder: 9/3 will be Labor Day Weekend...take a break from community projects and wear what you want.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

It’s Monday and the first day of my week of vacation! I’m going to wear all my favorites this week starting with Eau Premiere.
We take my older daughter back to college this weekend so I’m trying to enjoy every last second with her. Today we are off to IKEA. I haven’t been there since 2018 and my teenager has never been, so it should be a fun day. I can almost taste the Swedish meatballs already.?
Ikea should be fun but I always leave with a pounding headache from, amongst other things, dehydration. Bring water!
Thanks! We did.?
Ohhh, Swedish meatballs! YUM! Have you tried the Almond Torte from IKEA? It’s yummy.
Have a fun vacation!
I haven’t! I love their chocolate cake though. Thanks!
In preparation, maybe watch Charlie Berens’ (Manitowoc Minute guy) video on How IKEA Was Invented. It’s very funny. (As is his Husbands at Target video). I love going to IKEA, but my closest is 3 hours away. ?
By the way, you smell great. L’Eau Premiere is my favorite of the Chanel No. 5 scents.
I will check that out. I’ve seen some of his other videos and he’s pretty funny.
I think your nearest IKEA is my nearest IKEA.?
You smell wonderful!
Thanks! It’s been too long since I’ve worn it.
and for those who are not fans of a day in a furniture store, there’s Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix…
Oh god, I love that web magazine! It’s hilarious!
Yay for vacation and meatballs! I find Ikea overwhelming…I think it’s designed for extroverts perhaps or maybe they are just always too busy for my liking. 😉
I do not broswe, and I try to find the shortest path to whatever I’m buying, but it’s still overwhelming
I can see that. Today’s visit was not very busy which was nice. I would never go on a weekend.
Yay for vacation! Enjoy the time with your daughter!
Not sure about IKEAs where you are, but around here they’re out of a lot of things and have been for months — fair warning. Wishing you luck!
Thanks!
Yes, the supply chain issues. We have been waiting a year for the desk to be in stock that my daughter has had her eye on and they finally had it in stock!?
YAY!
Woo hoo!
I have used Craigslist to buy any IKEA furniture this year due to the supply issues.Bonus is you are getting something already assembled.Assembling IKEA projects can trigger a headache!
Getting ready to go on a very short camping trip, just 3 days, to get out and see something besides this @#*&! house. Wearing Neroli Outrenoir and hoping for clear starry nights!
You smell great! Enjoy your starry nights trip! It sounds relaxing!
Fingers crossed — hope it is a great trip!
That sounds wonderful! Enjoy.
Enjoy your trip! Such little car trips to the outdoors or to visit my parents have really saved my sanity this past year and a half!
I hope the weather, woods, and peace and quiet welcome you with open arms! ?
Yay for camping and starry nights!⭐️
Sounds lovely — we scrapped the backpacking on our trip recently when it was going to rain the whole time. Looks like decent weather for the next week or so, though, at least here, so hoping you’ll see those stars!
Early bird here in vintage Rive Gauche.
Wow, you smell marvelous!
TY!
Smelling fabulous!
Indeed!
Love this one! I am nursing a few precious sprays. Nothing lasts as long on me. Been wearing it off and on for about 45 years.
In Blackbird Y06-S. I had not reached for my full bottle in ages. Jasmine, banana, milk. Perfect for the not so hot, but cloudy, humid day.
On my second cup of coffee with a slice of apple pie. Fall is in the air! ??
P67 – Your perfume sounds really, really good. Banana and milk – wonderful. But add jasmine and it really sounds it isn’t just a gourmand. Anyways the notes sound lovely. I put this one down on my list to try.
It is really a good non- gourmand summer scent. I love it! Here a review from Kevin:
https://nstperfume.com/2017/11/29/blackbird-y06-s-fragrance-review/
Perfect!! Thanks for the link. I already looked this one up on their website but will gladly read Kevin’s review!!
Ah, I think I might wear that tomorrow. I always forget.
I also forget to wear it and it is such a fun, enjoyable scent!
If you like banana, have you tried the lip balm from Laneige? To me, it smells distinctly of banana, and some other tropical fruit.
I have not. Banana and tropical fruits sounds yummy. To my try list it goes. Thank you! ?
The lip balm is super creamy and moisturizing. I got mine as a GWP/Birthday gift from Sephora.
Great!
This is the only lip balm I use anymore.
I get either the grapefruit or berry and have never gotten a banana vibe, though.
What a fun fragrance! Glad that your weather has finally calmed down a bit.
It is indeed a fun fragrance!
I am glad it is not so hot, although the humidity is very high. We are in the mid 80’s today. More than happy I am! ?
Yay for fall, 2nd cups of coffee and pie! I am having my 2nd cup right now but my pie shall be quiche for lunch instead. 😉
Almost twins! I had a big piece of quiche Lorraine last week that my sister brought me. Craving for it now that you mentioned it!
Take a break from picking my own perfume and I let me oldest smell around (she is 6) After opening and examining all the bottles and sniffing them she picked Mimosa and Cardamon by JM. “This one! This one! “she said… too cute.
A dress with lemons today and Dior eye makeup
Cute all the way around! 🙂 I bet your dress is lovely. Is it the DIor five-shadow palette? Their eye shadows are so silky and velvety. Among my favorites.
Forgot to mention, makeup is by Chanel today, both eye shadows and foundation. I adore their old palettes, some of the colors are very pigmented.
Which foundation are you wearing?
I recently bought EL Double Wear.
I have the old Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet, which is HG, it’s so flawles, lightweight, ticks all the right boxes. It has fragrance, which is a bummer.
Yes the five shadow palette. I have two of them. This one is more “fall” that I am wearing today. The other has more purple and glittery pinks.
Oh my gosh – dresses with lemons are my FAVORITE!!!! I have been eyeing them forever. For now got a gorgeous dress with lemons for my two year old.
LOL – I’m twinning with your daughter. I was at the mall yesterday with my mom. She wanted to try something new and asked for a recommendation — I suggested Mimosa & Cardamon. 🙂
You smell great and your dress sounds delightful!
AH! This is an excellent story!
You have great taste by the way…
Working on using up “almost favorites”, so SOTD is Wisteria Hysteria, which I like but do not love as much as my other wisteria scent, Dame Wisteria Soliflore…after several days of relentless air conditioning weather, today we have the windows open, and I can hear the hens announcing the eggs they have laid in the hen house, and various little birdies chirping in the full sized cherry trees the previous owner planted too close to the east side of my house, but even tho they are so tall, I can never harvest any of the cherries, I love them for the spring blooms, and the little birdies…
Pray for Afghanistan, and for Louisiana, and all the disasters happening around the world. I am very blessed to be complaining about “too much air conditioning!” Be kind to one another, because everyone really is doing the best they can at any moment in time, even when the “best they can” leaves something to be desired. There is always room for improvement. Ack – ok, getting all the platitudes out of my system… 🙂
Envious of your open windows!
Love your platitudes!♥️
Happy Monday Robin! My SOTD is Cloud Ariana Grande. It is nice, and would have easily made last week’s CP ‘Never would I ever’ category. It got a compliment Mr. SmokeyToes.
After meeting a woman who was wearing Baccarat Rouge, I went down the rabbit hole with Maison Francis Kurkdjian scents. The price tag. oof. 😯 I ordered a sample of BR from Luckyscent.
Looking at the notes, a mix of Cloud by Ariana Grande (sweet notes) and Alien (aural jasmine and amber) by Mugler might be a close dupe and I won’t have to sell a body part to get this perfume.
Oh wow so You did meet someone wearing BR54… All the hype about it and I have never met anyone wearing it… Yet. I am very very curious about this perfume and keep reminding myself to finally get a sample of it. You liking it makes me want to try it even more!! I also read somewhere people comparing it to the Cloud by Grande… A lot of people like Cloud too!!
I did! And wow, it smelled marvelous on her! But the price, I just can’t do..
Cloud is marvelous and fun to wear. I’ll definitely do a side by side when I get my sample from Luckyscent and report back!
You know it’s weird but I trust people on this blog the most… Like when I read other reviewer’s somewhere else on other blogs or sites I kind of take it more lightheartedly. It is hard to explain. Anyways a side by side from You smokey toes is something I am looking forward to. Please do report back!!
Maybe layer the Cloud with the less-expensive BR lotion…?
Did you get the EDP or the extrait?
I ordered a sample of the EDP. I can’t wait for it to arrive. I will definitely let you guys know how the testing goes!
I have Cloud and enjoy it sprayed judiciously (meaning lightly!). I couldn’t smell BR540 no matter how hard I tried, which gave me a weird feeling–what else is out there that I am not smelling?
I admit, I adore the cute cloud bottle!
Oof is right!
The recent opening of two stores carrying major niche perfumes in South Africa ruined 2 perfumes for me,because NOW IT IS EVERYWHERE…
Baccarat Rouge and Portrait of a Lady.Happy to have more easy access to niche, sad that “my little treasures” are so widespread now.Am I weird in thinking this way,or being snobbish for wanting to NOT smell these on every street corner?Lol!
Back to Le Male,I guess…haha.
I have the opposite view in that I want everyone to smell like Chanel No.19 EDP ?
I’m with you on that! 😉
That’s so interesting!
I do think I could never wear Le Labo Santal 33 for that reason. I don’t find it snobbish at all — wanting to assert some individuality in your clothing or fragrance isn’t saying you’re better than everyone else.
You are being just as I am, honestly. I am so fond of being a fan of owning my Enchanted Forest from a brand I don’t even know if a single person in my town has heard about… Just now I got travel spray and can’t wait to try it and for someone to ask the name of it so I can be like “it’s called The Time!!”. Also my two favorites are opposites: Swan Princess not many heard about and Chinatown is a well-known one.
I just saw the news, RIP Ed Asner. Loved a lot of his work.
I started a full rewatch of MTM, starting with episode 1, at the beginning of the year but still have a couple of seasons left. I shall finish watching it in his honor.
MTM – tv sitcom icon of my youth. I loved her. And Asner.
And Rhoda and Sue Ann and Ted and Georgette and Murray and everyone else.
Truly one of the best shows ever made.
Way too early start with a meeting with Panama team.
SOTD is le labo Rose 31 lotion and fragrance.
Ugh, I hope am early start means an early finish for you!
*an. Guess I’m a butterfingers this morning
It does! 40 billable hours a week for the company of many fragrances.
57 years ago today my sister and I saw the Beatles in Atlantic City. it was my dads’ 40th birthday. Today he would have been 97.
Good! That sounds like an incredible concert! I hope you have many happy memories of your dad to carry you through the day!
it is always a magical memory!
I’m in the last of a decant of Azemour. Luckily, I keep forgetting that I have a decant and I buy another, so right now I have two 8ml decants waiting.
You smell wonderful!
🙂
SOTD is a sample of JHAG’s Moscow Mule. I’m hoping it will be an additional option for hot summer days (my go to has been Saint Julep but I’m nearly out). So far I’m liking it but I think I’ll probably have to cave and get a bigger bottle of Saint Julep before next summer. Still it’s nice to know there are at least two JHAG perfumes I enjoy (lady vengeance being yet another good rose scent I adore)!
Plus now you have options if Saint Julep disappears for whatever reason. It is good to have options 🙂
I’m in Chinatown… Again.
Nothing wrong with having a favorite and wanting to know you smell great on a Monday morning!
you still smell great!!
Thanks guys!! The person who enjoys the way I smell the most is of course ME!!
Chamade EdT. Boy, I’d like to have this in extrait someday.
Not to enable or anything bit Bergdorfs is having its Gift Card event from now through September 7th ($35 off $250, $100 / $500, $250 / $1,000 …).
Hah! You are an enabler! I did go to a Macy’s today and spritzed on LVEB Intensement. Didn’t like it at first but it dried down nicely. My husband wasn’t a fan, though. Money saved.
I’m in Diptyque Eau Capitale today.
Just came back home from work but I’m off to business dinner later. Luckily it’s a casual one.
You smell great! And thank you for the reminder – I’m going to spritz with Eau Capitale for my Sota (scent of the afternoon)
Sotd (really scent of the morning) is Eau de Rochas. It’s such a complex fragrance for an Eau – the Coriander, Basil and Narcissus, etc. etc.
Plus, a classic.
Veering question – what is your favorite sorta soliflore spring/summer perfume – Linden, Lilac, LOTV, Carnation, Dianthus, Daphne, perfumes that showcase a flower other than Rose or Jasmine, which are the standards…
For me it’s violet, lavender, carnation, narcissus and iris. Daphne and linden are too sweet for me, and LOTV and lilac are … too much of something, not sure what. Not familiar with dianthus – what’s it like?
DSH Oeillets Rouges for carnation.
Pretty Machine or Grand Chalet for linden and Desarmant for lilac
Linden – Grand Chalet and Vouloir être ailleurs
Violet – Kerbside Violet and Maison Violet “Violet”
Linden, honeysuckle, and orange blossom. Thanks for the reminder about Daphne! I have a bottle of Demeter Daphne, not sure if they still make it but like many of their scents, it’s a ringer for the real thing.
-Vilhelm A Lilac a Day.
-Dame has very nice soliflores. I like Mimosa and Gardenia.
For lily I have two: Cavatina from Dusita- I received a sample after buying a couple of her perfumes and it is really beautiful. And Death and Decay from Lush – really the opposite to its name, a big lush lily floral note.
For lilac I have Highland Lilac and En passant which are both really nice- somehow I don’t really feel like wearing either lately. I now prefer Champs Elysées for a lilac note- I smell mainly lilac and mimosa and is much more dimensional that the other two.
For linden soliflore I like French lime blossom from Jo Malone.
Currently wearing AG Le Chevrefeuille. Last night, I wore Pacifica Lilac.
Looks like we are having one more pretty hot day, and then more reasonable temps starting tomorrow. YAY!
Currently brewing: Republic of Tea Black Raspberry Green Tea.
Other: slowly decluttering and rethinking my kitchen. I’m going for a slow reset on the whole house, and enjoying fantasy kitchen remodels while I’m at it.
Have a great day, everyone!
You smell great TeaInTheGarden!
I did some kitchen decluttering when I repainted cabinets a couple years ago, but honestly, it needs it again. Good luck!
Spent a good chunk of the morning in Eau Premiere and now in no 22 edt.
Half twin!?
I just wrapped a weekend of red letter shopping. I needed a pair of comfortable boots, a bra that doesn’t feel like a torture device after 1.5 years of going commando, and wanted a pair of slip-on sneakers, and managed to find all 3 (!!!)
And yet…
I know I’m in good company in feeling like I need a massive closet overhaul.
Every time I need to look presentable/dressed up/cute I am at a complete loss. I open my closet doors and stare into an abyss of joggers, leggings, tank tops, and sweatshirts, searching for whatever it is I used to wear to “dress up. ” But once I dig out that section of my wardrobe (and find something that fits) I’m again at a loss, wondering, “Really? I thought this looked good?” or, “JFC how did I manage to wear this hideously uncomfortable thing for more than 30 seconds???”
Where is that magical store that sells chic clothing (and shoes) made from comfortable soft textiles, in flattering, versatile cuts that work for a dinner out, trip to a museum, or a show, or the other quasi dressy affairs we’ve been looking forward to attending again?
There’s a glut of WFH/looks fine for a zoom meeting/oops I gained 20 lbs stuff out there, but not much that addresses what to wear when we’re ready to leave the house again – in something equally comfortable – because it’s not normal times and people like me need to transition.
/rant over
But y’all feel me, right?
I will recommend ponte knit skirts. I started wearing them pre-covid, and at this point I’m not interested in wearing any other type of skirt at work (I am a skirts & dresses person, except for jeans). They look good, hang well, but feel like the PJs of business casual. Also, wrap dresses.
Hadn’t thought of wrap dresses- thank you! I am a dress person, not so much a skirt person.
The two most insanely comfortable dresses I own are from Ulla Johnson and No. 6 Store, two brands I could never afford new but sometimes find at a bargain on Ebay. The Ulla Johnson one has a smocked waist and the fabric feels like it was made from the breath of angels, so even if one is feeling cranky or bloaty and generally in need of ease and forgiving clothing, you still wind up looking like an elegant poetess out for a stroll in her manor garden.
Though, this poetess is generally just wearing it to take the bins out…
Ahh thank you! This bloaty gal will happily pay (within reason 🙂 ) for fabric that feels like the breath of an angel. I have a CNS-related condition that makes me hyper sensitive to textures and fabrics, which makes shopping very challenging.
I am familiar with No 6 as I stalked their collection of clog boots for many years but never bought.
I will look up both.
I’m 100% feeling you!!
what bra? must have bra info.
Two suggestions are Warner’s Lace Escape and Wacoal Lace Embrace, for those who now find wireless bras simply Too Much. The latter is prettier but less supportive, and neither’s lace is itchy.
Thanks AnnieA!
I hate buying bras.
I now find my once-comfortable and liberating wireless bras too much so switched to my 10yo sports bras, and was looking for more. Most sports bras do not fit me because I’m too tall, but I found one at athleta that happens to fit perfectly. Their other bras fit into the torture device category for me. (Cannot do racerback by any brand for same reason. )
So for anyone else in the same predicament, it’s the Exhale.
Third Love has great bras, reasonably priced and they have the fit down. The name is strange but the bras are my favorite.
I switched to Wacoal B Smooth Seamless when I started WFH last year, and I am never going back to underwire. I am solidly in the plus-size range and haven’t found many no-wire options that get the job done, but these do.
Have you tried True&Co? Love.
Still wafting faintly of Omnia. We’re moving camp today, so a shower is in my near future, then who knows what I’ll spritz..?
Sad about so many people I grew up watching/listening to that have gone space trucking in the past few of years. I feel old, and I’m not sure what to do with the sense of loss I feel, which I guess is really the understanding of my own clock tick-tocking.
Pretty gutted about the loss of Sean Lock, whose humor I just adored. I love that way he describes himself in this short clip. Who else would mention fragrance as a way of defining themselves..?!
https://youtu.be/qRPngk5QyK4
I cried last week when I saw Sean Lock decided to go explore the universe. He was so *witty* just fun, a type of person who would just build a story until you were belly laughing at the end, or just make an observation that was so crisp and sharp.
I always think of you when I wear Omnia.
Deva=Omnia!Such a beauty!
Very sad about Sean — such a funny guy. He was one of my favorite QI panelists.
And mortality certainly can seem to loom, specter-like, particularly if one does not have what I assume is the comfort of belief in an afterlife. I’ve been trying to get genuinely more stoic, and also to channel my Japanese mum, who isn’t at all flipped out about being 94 and nearer her end.
Good morning all! In lashings of Caprifoglio, the Little Black Dress of my summer fragrance wardrobe, and scrambling a bit to get up to speed on a field meeting that I’m standing in for my boss on today, so I’ll come back and read comments a bit later.
Hope the meeting went well, Isabella!
It did — I had to provide the botanical expertise to identify some tiny rare plant seedlings in the vicinity of a site where a UC research group wants to install a fire camera. Nice to get out and sweat a bit, but the Caprifoglio was no match for the hike, the heat, the sun-warmed bay laurel, and the general macho-dude vibe among the group. Transitioning to Eau de Magnolia for my afternoon with my young ‘un, for the refreshment of it and in honor of Louisiana, to whom I am beaming love.
But I do like the idea of a pretty floral tagging along for the trip 🙂
Tigress for me today. Bought at an antique shop in New Brunswick last month.
Thoughts of my neighbours south today and what everyone there is going through. You are in my prayers.
Same here — been watching the news all day in between other things. Could have been worse, but boy.
In a spritz of Bois d’Argent before getting ready for the day.
Hope it was a good day AnnieA!
Testing Jo Malone Gardenia & Oud today, and yeah, this is gorgeous. Creamy gardenia with a rich oud backbone. Very few notes, but feels more full and rich than most Jo Malones (which make sense, and they are marketing this as an absolu as opposed to one of their standard colognes). Not only do I want a FB, but I want to try the rest of the & Oud line. Luckily I got a sample of Rose & Oud when I got this one; I’ll have to include Violet & Oud in my next sample bonanza. I wish they made an Orange Blossom & Oud.
Drinking english breakfast with coconut flakes again.
House twins.
I haven’t tried any of their Oud perfumes.
Sounds lovely
SOTD is Angelique Noire. So far so good, but some days this one can be a scrubber for me, I think it’s the combo of the sweet vanilla and sharp green.
Tea is a silver needle, brewed with slightly warm water.
I love Angelique Noire. I hope it stays good for you today!
And I’ve always said t his one would be better named Angelique Verte.
I love this one too! So unique… nothing similar out there and the mix of super green aniseed herbal Angelica and vanilla delicious.
I can see how it can be a bit grating to some, I have to be well rested and alert otherwise it can wear me!
You’re right about the name! I do love how “verte” it stays, down to the drydown.
It’s another 16C day, cold for the season, and I’m wearing Dune.
You smell of perfection! I’ve watched a couple of young YouTube “reviewers” talk about Dune. They just don’t get it, lol.
More for us!
? Yes I suppose it is because it’s so unique, my little 30ml bottle is enough as I find Dune rather melancholic, I have to be in a certain mood.
I am in the very cheerful Rose Mallow Cream from Solstice Scents
First day of school for my 3rd grader today…where does the time go? ?
I am scentless with two packages being delivered today…feeling like hajusuuri!???
LOL … and I have a package coming to me at some point from ShopFrance!
I hope she had a good day!
I’m in Coco EDP because I wanted to. And it’s a cool day here. Looking forward to my cool weather scents.
It is so humid here that I am *almost* looking forward to cool weather.
Monday!
1) In Ambre Vanille after my workout shower. A bit cooler and milder today, but still warm. In light warmth this is really nice!
2) Cleaned up my front strip garden this weekend- trimmed down my box shrub which grew all big and shaggy and put out these jasmine-ish smelling flowers, planted 4 smallish lavender plants so that they grow nice and big next year, and deadheaded and pruned the roses (I might get one more flush before November, we’ll see.) Also cleaned up the yard and driveway of the house for sale down the street. The people selling it and agent marketing it are letting the outside decline and look neglected- and as a result it has invited a lot of bs and drama on the block. Also, the fruit trees are dropping fruit, and without cleaning that up, it will invite vermin into their revamped home!
Just my presence and making eye contact seemed to have detered some people from parking and a couple of people who had needles in hand walked away when I offered to call the agent for a viewing.
The house is not moving due to a) it’s overpriced for where it is and what was actually done b) since we are a block off near a transit center, a very questionable dive bar and I-205, all that seem inviting to questionable characters (myself included) and c) it’s not being actively maintained. In a hot housing market like PDX, this house has now sat at $499K for 4 months. So instead of complaining about the neglect and the resultant problems, I am gonna just try to make sure the place seems cared for.
3) I might- JUST MIGHT- get an e-bike! I am deciding between the Aventon Level and Gazelle Modeo.
Wow, a house for $499k that’s overpriced! That’d be unheard of up north. 🙂 Apparently the latest real estate tactic around here is to increase the price if the house isn’t moving. I gather there are foreign buyers who think expensive is better…and being near a transit centre would mean a perfect tear down / development opportunity.
Sounds like you got a lot of gardening done, and helped out the block!
For me, being near a transit center is GOLD- I can go anywhere in the city at a moment’s notice- I just walk about 5 minutes! But for some, proximity to a transit center may not be all that.
Honestly, the home was revamped and refreshed and it’s a cute cottage so it would be a shame if it was torn down. But it’s on a larger lot so I would not be surprised if it was torn down sometime in in the future 🙁
So much gardening work. This afternoon I will sow the fall/winter veggie garden!
Yes — too many cottages and arts & crafts homes being torn down here, IMHO. But apparently they’re not the fashion and don’t offer the amenities that the cookie-cutter new homes going up have.
We have a new subway line / station going in a block from our house. The construction is a headache now, but it’s going to be fantastic once it’s done. Transit access IS gold, I agree!
$499k for a house is a DEAL where I live in South Florida… Houses go for a million and up and that’s normal for here!! Even sh*#/y houses go for about that much!!
Please keep us posted re: your e-bike choice. A rental this summer changed my relationship with biking so I might be in the market too:)
Absolutely! I am looking at the Blix, Aventon and Electra! I will let youse guys know on Wednesday when I have had placed my order at my local bike shop.
Thank you!
SOTD is Narciso EDP again, since I ordered a travel size from Sephora that arrived yesterday. I’ve been going with the heavier perfumes lately, as we inch into fall. This morning has been downright chilly — had to turn on the heater downstairs as we’d left a window open. It would seem that lots of sawdust got into it when they redid the floors, as I came downstairs to the smell of burning sawdust at breakfast.
The excitement of the weekend was finding a product (Restor A Finish + Feed & Wax) that seems to actually make my scratched up / water-ringed wood furniture look pretty good without any sandpaper. Everything else I’ve used dried out within a day or two and didn’t really help. So now I’m slowly working through all the wood furniture in the house.
*Takes notes regarding feed and wax*
I used that on a lot of old furniture last year! Worked really well.
I must spend too much time around ranchers, because I’m stuck on the idea that you’re rubbing something on your furniture that you can also feed to livestock…
A sunny morning and the last official day of winter! It’s also the last day of our two-week level 4 lockdown. I’m looking forward to a takeaway coffee tomorrow, as we move to level 3. Yes, we really mean it with our lockdowns, no takeaway or food delivery at the highest level.
Heading off to the lounge for another day of WFH and perfume sampling.
Are you in New Zealand/Australia? Your governments are NOT fooling around- which is good for the safety of the people!
I have to say, getting that first Starbucks after lockdown last year was pretty wonderful.
Enjoy that takeaway coffee!
Oh yay!!!
I put on some Safran Troublant this morning but it’s pretty much gone now. I might respray, it was so pretty, and the day is perfect for it.
Safran Troublant is beautiful!!
We’ve had a cool, cloudy start to the day, so Chergui seemed appropriate. It had been a while since I’ve worn this one. Its strong presence helped force me to wake up today.
Wow, it is *so* not Chergui weather here! Hope it worked its magic.
Yeah, it barely hit 63 and stayed cloudy and cool all day, so Chergui was the perfect choice. And it’s still going 12+ hours later!
I’ve been sitting most of yesterday and today glued to the hurricane coverage. There but for the grace of God go I (we). It was a tremendous storm and we’re only now learning of its extent with more to come. I wish we could see some good news from somewhere for a change. In my own humble front I seem to have developed a horrible knee problem and am afraid of what it might be, and also afraid of falling on the stairs in my multi-story home. Which is leading me into nightmare scenarios of trying to downsize and move (Where?) into a one-story home. Ugh. I’ve got an appointment in an hour with my doctor and hope for some diagnosis and advice. I’ve put on a tiny bit of MFK APOM just to feel a bit brighter and prettier. Didn’t want to walk in trailing a big cloud of scent behind me.
Handrails are your friends! We have irregularly curving stairs Chez G, and they are two parts danger to one part blessing. Danger in that I have a tendency to zone out or catch something out the window as I’m descending the stairs and, more often than I’d prefer, that results in slippage if not an outright tumble. But blessing in that going up and down the stairs actually helps my knees, as long as I pay attention to which muscles I’m engaging to get the legs to do what they have to (as opposed to zoning out and not paying attention). Working with a Pilates coach has been invaluable for my knees.
Hope you get good news at your appointment.
I’m all for single story living spaces, regardless of what kind of shape one is in.
I’ve also been having knee issues, and keep reinjuring myself. It is no fun. Hope your situation can be easily resolved ?
I hurt my knee last year at the protests- and I had similiar fears regarding my home. The injury healed but it is a good thing to think about handrails, doing strecthing and Pilates and flat single story living- that’s gonna be my next home ambition.
Oh, I’m with you. I screwed up my knee six years ago, when we were in Germany without great healthcare (only kinda the Germans’ fault…their healthcare system and just about everything else does not EVER consider short-term residents, but for people who live there for more than a year it’s great). I’ve reinjured it a couple of times since coming home, mostly in coming down the stairs from my bedroom to the kid’s late at night in the dark.
Also took my usual quick walk before my first morning meeting this morning, and was just…kinda down about everything. It’s all…still…a lot.
We are having fun here with progress (finally!) on our deck rebuild project. The contractors discovered a couple of breaks in underground pipes related to our sprinkler system while they were digging holes for new concrete footings, so we’ve been turning the sprinklers on and off for them all morning while they try to trace what leads to what and get things patched up. We think they’ve got it figured out now, but meanwhile I’m in Carthusia 1681 in the hope that it will have a calming effect.
Ohh!
Fixing a sprinkler system should not be too bad! I bet your deck will come out looking great!
Lush Love for a pretty uneventful Monday!Loving the re-issue of some much loved Lush perfumes!
Here’s to a great week for all of us!
XO
Oooh, we are house twins! I am in Lord of Misrule!
Wore Cuir Beluga today with a bit of L’Heure Bleue on top… I have been loving this combination.
I did not think of this combo! I bet you smell really nice!
It is very nice! I read somewhere that Iris Ganache could recreated that way…. without going as far as that (though it does remind of it from my almost exhausted sample), it creates a really interesting smell. Cuir Beluga gives LhB a more gourmand touch!
Wow, that sounds like a powerhouse combo! (In the best possible way ?)
I tried this combo the last time you mentioned and really enjoyed it, so thanks so much for sharing! I was surprised how strong the Cuir Beluga. I’m still learning to love L’Heure Bleue so I’m enjoying ideas for playing around with it. I also tried layering it with Jersey and enjoyed that.
Please keep sharing your L’Heure Bleue combos – it’s a challenging scent for me too.
So good to know! I have learned to love LhB and now is one of my favourites. I’m not sure I can do the same with Mitsouko, which is the challenging Guerlain for me.

This was a find in one of the shopping bags I must never have opened to put away! Nice surprise and even nicer powdery sweet and spicy patchouli + vanilla!

I was supposed to take today off but ended up work practically a day yesterday and a half a day today. I will reward myself with more time off whenever.
Nice find!
Hey guys.
I am sorry to say that the world seems to have gotten the best of me, and I am just feeling very down.
Sotd is Chance eau Vive again. I will wear it again tomorrow, then switch Sept 1st.
Jalapeno, if you are reading, I am thinking of you.
Lillyjo, there is so much in the world right now to get the best of anybody.
I am so sorry you are feeling down. One foot in front of the other, right?
Sending love, Lillyjo! You aren’t alone, and the world is so heavy right now. I wish I could reach out and offer you actual help, but please take gentle care of yourself and know that we’re all wafting good thoughts and good scents your way.
I’m so sorry the world is getting the best of you lillyjo.☹️I wish I lived closer, I’d stop over and give you a big hug.☺️
I’ve been noticing Jalapeño missing too and thinking of her.
So sorry Lillyjo, allow yourself to feel sad but I hope today is a better day.
