It's Friday, plus National Lemonade Day and World Mosquito Day. Our community project for today: wear the first scent that made you a fan of a particular note. Thanks go to PriscillaE for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Guerlain Vetiver, which I think was the fragrance that made me crazy for vetiver? It was a long time ago so I can't be sure.
Reminder: on 8/27 we're doing People change... wear something you never would have worn in your pre-perfumista days.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Lann-ael is the reason I seek out perfumes with grain notes to try. Not that there’s many of them but I’ll try them when I see them.
Love Lann-ael, it reminds me of sophisticated French Froot Loops.
LOL at your description!
Lann-ael is so good! You smell delicious.
Hello perfume people! Just dropping in to say hello, hope everyone is well.
I’m wearing Ummagumma today, which goes perfect with the cool damp weather on the pacific coast of Washington where we are currently camped. The marine layer is thick, so not sure if we’ll see the sun today.
Have to run (well, drive an hour!) into town today to do laundry and pick up some groceries. Happy to be in a state that has a fairly high vaccination rate, compared to some other states, but still masking in public. To all my Florida peeps, I’m thinking of you and hoping you all remain happy and healthy there. ?
T-Rex says “woof,” and wags her tail to everyone! She’s especially happy because I made too much pancake batter this morning, so she had two small pancakes mixed in with her morning kibble. ?
Here’s where we are camped if anyone is interested:

Whoops! Wrong spot! Sorry! I must have forgotten how to comment here…?
Nice to hear from you, I’m just over the border on Vancouver Island now. You smell great!
I was over in Port Angeles a couple weeks ago, gazing fondly at Canada and wanting make a return visit in the worst way! Hopefully soon. Hope you and yours are well, including that little fluffernutter of yours! ?
We are fine and Mila is enjoying all the rabbits. 😉 I think the border is open now to vaccinated Americans with a covid test.
Nice – we camped just west of Port Angeles (Salt Creek Campground) recently and loved it. Hope you’re having a great trip.
Love seeing you here today. You are missed! Your instagram post today really made me smile. Take care, stay safe, and please stop by more often. ?
Deva, so glad you and T-Rex are well and happy!!
Nice to see you Deva. I think of you whenever I wear Ummagumma.
I’m glad NST is open early, because it’s going to be a long day. I got up early to pay bills, and now off to the grocery store. I have a cable guy coming at noon to fix whatever is wrong with the cable. Then off to work for the night. This is the last weekend here before school starts so it will be crazy. Hot and humid is my forecast so I am wearing Orange Sanguine. The perfume that made me love Orange as a note. I can’t say citrus, because grapefruit is rarely a friend to me. Happy Weekend everyone!
Oof, that is a busy day! Grapefruit can be tricky for me also…. I hope you can get everything accomplished and put your feet up later!
Orange is so good and you smell great!
There has been research done showing that the smell of orange improves one’s mood so you chose the perfect fragrance for a very full day.
I’m with SmokeyToes hoping that you can put your feet up later and relax.
Yes, I third what SmokeyToes said. And you smell great 🙂
Quite a day, but you smell optimistic, love orange.
You smell great, and I hope the orange can be your strength today.
Hope your energizing scent helps you get through the day!
Never liked patchouli at all until I smelled Michael for Men by Michael Kors in 2001 and bought it on the spot. It starts with a slightly mentholated/medicinal smell, then opens up into a big masculine tobacco-patchouli thing with a fair bit of Lutensesque dried fruit. It’s particularly nice in the fall, but it smells good any old time, including today.
Nice! I love patchouli and was interested until tobacco….
My gateway IIRC was Reminiscence Elixir Patchouli…but too humid for it today even if I had any!
It’s FriYAY!
Getting back into the habit of posting again…I have missed it! Had to go with Ego Facto Poopoo Pidoo, because this scent made me swoon at rice notes in perfume! This is just so soooooo good. Wafting a bit strong at the moment, but it will soon settle in….
Have a great weekend y’all!
I meant to comment yesterday that I had just wondered where you were when you posted. Glad you’re back and healthy!
Excellent call!
FRIYAY
testing down the line…Guiac 10
so far nothing to say. I will give it an hour.
Oh, nothing to say doesn’t bode well….
Foo. I was hoping this one would be amazing. Eagerly awaiting your final thoughts on it.
I used to love this one, when I worked with a very scent-sensitive person and had to wear very subtle scents. She never complained! But I can see what you mean by nothing to say!
I find it ethereal and lovely, but my bottle is quite old… possibly reformulated.
Okay, here’s my comment after 6 hours? Nothing.
🙂
I’m wearing Timbuktu, which was the first what first introduced me to incense. The L’Artisan discovery set and the coffret set were literally the first sets that I purchased after starting to read NST. Timbuktu is one of the only incense fragrances that I wear during the hot and humid Texas summers.
I just looked up the notes, that perfume sounds wonderful! You smell great!
You smell wonderful!
Morning all, my SOTD is Sunshine by Clarins, easy to wear, with notes of mimosa, chamomile, linden and Osmanthus. I woke up sneezing like crazy, Flonase and Claritin are my best friends.
Happy surprise, when I went to the office the other day, I checked my desk to find two adored Shiseido lipsticks and a Baies candle by Diptyque. 🙂
Flonase and Claritin are like Vitamins to me – take them every day… I have found that mask wearing really helps with seasonal symptoms. Have you had that experience?
Going to the office is like entering an archeological dig! When I went to my office the last time, I found a travel bottle of Do Son I thought was lost forever. 🙂
I definitely think the mask has helped allergies! They are better by far than two years ago.
It IS strange! And a little eerie to head to the office, we normally have a lot of activity. There were fun discoveries, like candles and lipsticks, and icky ones like I found some snacks like PB and crackers that needed to be discarded. But discovered things that I thought were gone forever like the lipsticks. I love happy accidents like finding perfume, and candles! Do Son is lovely!
I may wear that or Ofresia if the allergies calm down tomorrow. The air quality is supposed to improve over the weekend in the SF/Bay area.
I forgot to mention, another helpful tool in the allergy arsenal is Bausch + Lomb’s Advanced Eye Relief Eye Wash. After removing makeup, I rinse my eyes (it comes with an eye cup) and it helps to remove pollen.
It also helps resolve styes faster. 🙂
Flonase and Claritin are my buddies too! Oh, will have to check out the eye wash tip…
I laughed out loud when I went to my office last month for the first time since the pandemic began, and looked in a drawer for a pen, and found at least 50 perfume samples, wee rollerballs, and solid perfumes and absolutely nothing work related!
Oh my god! Same!
I found quite a few perfume samples that unfortunately had evaporated. Boo!
Ha! They are work related, presumably, because they helped make working tolerable?
Absolutely! They’re basically Personal Protective Equipment!
Yes, fragrance samples definitely make work tolerable!
SOTD is lush’s Rose Jam which taught me that I like rose smells and that’s okay. However what I have on hand at this time is solid perfume and the body spray, I’m a bit potent at the moment! Happy FriYay all!
I’ve always loved roses but I think if someone were on the fence or even a hater, Rose Jam might be the scent to convert them. It’s friendly and modern, not the slightest bit old-fashioned. (Obviously I don’t think “old-fashioned” is a pejorative, but a lot of people do.)
I also have the solid and the body spray, and they stack well. Maybe tomorrow.
Old fashioned is definitely not a pejorative! Rose Jam is a very friendly scent and was such a good access point for me! It taught me not to dismiss floral/feminine scents out of hand!
Wear your potency with pride! Waft that rose!
I will!
Rose Jam shower gel is so refreshing.
Rose Jam is nice! It’s one of the few lushes that doesn’t knock me off from sheer essential oil concentration. Second favourite after Snow Cake (marzipan almond perfume with rose and benzoin) ?
TGIF! Today I am wearing Vetiver Tonka. Its the first fragrance that made me really fall for vetiver.
Side note about another vetiver fragrance, Coeur de Vetiver Sacre from L’Artisan, I get nothing but juicy passion fruit from it. Am I the only one..?
You smell really, really good!
Note twin! Along with Robin too. Make that triplets!
I’ve never smelled Coeur de Vetiver Sacre, but passion fruit sounds good too.
🙂
Oh, interesting. I own Coeur de Vetiver and definitely don’t get anything fruity from it – on me it’s all hay and grasses. Very soothing, actually.
You smell good, and CdVS is not a heavily vetiver-y scent, despite its name. I think that’s the one that smelled like cherry pie to me…
Usually I wear Orchidée Vanille on these kinds of polls, because it was the scent that made me appreciate vanilla. But…to mix things up I splashed on some Aliage. Which started my love of all things green.
Cooking class was fun! My little group made roasted root veggies with a drizzle of a rosemary honey concoction. This will mark the date that I discovered that roasted fennel is delicious.
This VCA and AA’s Vanille Ylang are my only vanillas…
Oh nice…I never think to roast fennel and I should. I like almost any vegetable roasted.
Happy FriYAY all! This has been a slog of a week at work, so very much looking forward to this weekend for the break. Will be visiting some of my favorite cousins (well, Mr. Vee’s cousins, but I claim them as my own).
SOTD is Regime des Fleurs Falling Trees, which sent me on my hunt for my HG Forest&Juniper(or now maybe Cypress) scent. Cedar, juniper, moss, incense, some wet earth. I love it so much.
Falling Trees sounds good! And many of the RdF bottles are so stunning.
Have a great weekend with cousins!
As a firefighter, “falling trees” is a name to inspire terror, but it sounds like a gorgeous scent!
I should have worn Aromatics Elixir, which made me love a good chypre and oakmoss, but chose Scherrer EdT instead. Finally Friday. We are planning a bike tour tomorrow
Oh Scherrer, lovely.
Both AE and Scherrer are fabulous! It’s a win both ways!
Both wonderful options!
Orange moon, red sun, occasional ash in the air… it’s gross out. Wondering if I should wear a hazmat suit when I go do errands later, lol. Will definitely wear an N95 mask.
SOTD is Xinu Copala, which taught me that I could like vanilla in a perfume (if it’s mixed in with something else I really like, such as incense). I am She-Ra’s evil twin when it comes to vanilla.
TOTD is Russian Caravan from Tea Runners. Assam, oolong, puerh, and lapsang souchong. You’d think I had enough smoke just from the air here, but I guess I wanted some in my tea too.
Is it the Caldor fire impacting you?
Caldor, Dixie, Tamarack, …….., take your pick.
Ha ha, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em with your tea! Sifts of ash on everything here, too, and nasty air. At least it’s supposed to clear through the weekend.
I can’t wait for some clearing!
We had a red moon yesterday, it was eerie and beautiful.
Copala is lovely, couldn’t bring myself to spring for a bottle but that’s the best one in the line for me.
My ❤️ goes out to you. Stay safe!
We’re safe, the fires are about 300 miles away. But the smoke is here.
Happy Friday Fragrant Friends!
I’m really enjoying reading everyone’s first loves and feeling especially grateful for this community. I always come away with new ideas to explore the fragrant world and inspired by the ways that each of you vulnerably, honestly and courageously live into whatever life is for you in the moment. Thank you.
Sotd is L’Artisan Premier Figuier because it set me on a happy figgy path. Side note: it’s fun to pay more attention to the fig trees in my neighborhood and appreciate their beauty.
Chez Panisse does a dish where they steam a piece of fish wrapped in a fig leaf and it’s such a beautiful use of that magical fig-leaf scent! Been meaning to raid the neighbor’s tree and give it a try.
Sounds delicious!
Am in Different Company’s Oriental Lounge and Kenzo Flower Oriental aka my entire collection of summer, or gauzy, orientals. BTW what the status on Oriental as a perfume category? Is it no longer Correct? if so, what would the new name be?
Amber. I have never classified anything as Oriental and I doubt I will start calling them Amber.
LOVE O Lounge!
I have seen both Amber and Ambery.
I had planned to wear Coco today as it made me fall in love with clove many years ago but it’s just too hot. Wearing Seville l’Aube instead, my summer go to.
Has anyone tried Zoologist Chipmunk yet?
I was eyeing my Seville bottle, too as that was my gateway to orange blossom!
Not my gateway to ob but my favorite so far.
Very interested in Chipmunk, will definitely sample soon.
I ordered my sample today. The Zoologist website says that shipping to the US is taking at least 4 weeks? I think? But hopefully that means cooler weather when it gets here.
Chipmunk???! Must go look. The name alone….
The picture is adorable ?
SOTD is Nuit de Tuberose by L’artisan which is my gateway (and only way) into tuberose fragrances! I should try more but haven’t found any others. I do like the fresh flower a lot.
L’Artisan did it so beautifully. You probably don’t need another. What a fragrance.
no need for another, true!
Wearing Chamade today, which is the perfume that made me warm to galbanum. It also smelled so sharp and shrieky to me before, but the galbanum in Chamade has this lovely fresh-cut green pepper quality. It smells like flower stems you just took in from the garden or something.
Oh, Chamade is such a beauty! Definitely would make my desert-island list.
Love Chamade! You smell great!
I have the EdT, which I love. But one day, I hope…..extrait.
Timbuktu was the scent that made me aware of vetiver many years ago. I don’t think I even knew what vetiver smelled like before then. But today I think I’m going to wear Vetiverus by Oliver & Co./Avant-Garden lab. Sadly the whole company is no longer in existence, and this is the only scent I’ve smelled from them. It’s a smoky, apricot-y vetiver.
The air is getting bad here, smokey and orangey. It’s really bringing bad memories of being in lockdown with horrid air quality last year. At least I’m prepared with air purifiers now. But I feel very bad for schools now having to balance Covid protocols (more outdoor activities, open windows) and high AQIs (shut all windows and keep kids inside)!
It’s really affecting me on an emotional level, too — feeling really bleak and burned out and I think the triggering of memories of last year is partly to blame.
Me too, I’m feeling quite down about the state of the world. It feels like a downward spiral. Must find something more hopeful to focus on.
Yes, this. Living in smoke is really discouraging and depressing along with unhealthy. So sorry.
I agree too! It looks apocalyptic and feels like it too. Two years in a row now (plus 2018 not long ago) makes me think this is going to be a regular occurrence. ?
As your friendly neighborhood fire ecologist, it pains me to say that it’s absolutely going to be a regular occurrence. It’s interesting to note, though, that before the implementation of a national policy of attempted total fire suppression within the past 100 years, the acreage the burned each year was similar to what’s burning now, and people did endure long, smoky seasons, so the “new normal” is also a return to the previous normal, albeit with worse outcomes from the fires now.
Thanks for your great insight and educating us!
Part of the problem seems to be that people are now moving closer and closer to fire-prone areas. ☹️
That’s such a helpful insight, thanks!
That’s fascinating, I would not have assumed that. Adding my thanks!
Wearing SL Iris Silver Mist, the fragrance that made me crazy about iris, my favorite note.
Tough days for me lately. Hope everything starts improving soon. Wishing you all well!
Happy Friday! ?
Always thinking of you, pl67! Hugs.
Thank you, Springpansy! Hugs back!
Twins! Sending good thoughts your way!
Thank you, Ockeghem!
We smell fabulous!
I hope things improve this weekend! You smell amazing.
Thank you, Tulipani!
I wish for better days ahead for you.
Thank you m, Aurora. So much needed.
ISM is great, and I’m not even a huge iris fan. You smell really good.
Thank you! ISM is my favorite iris ever, along with Masque Milano L’Attesa.
You smell great! I hope your tough days ahead turn to better days soon!
Thank you, Hajusuuri!
Looking forward to better times!
Hopefully better things are just ahead ?
Sending you some southern hemisphere love PL67. XXOX
Sending you hugs!
You so smell so good. I hope you are feeling much better very soon.
ISM was my gateway iris too, you smell great. Hope things get better soon!
Sending you a big hug ? and wishes that things get better soon.
Sending hugs, PL67. Missed seeing your comments this week. Hope you start feeling better soon.
ISM is wonderful! And I hope things improve for you soon. Love your comments!
You are not alone pl67….sending more hugs.
Thank you, Robin! ?
Thanks for stopping in anyway – you smell wonderful. I’m late to the party but here’s another fragrant wish for a clear way forward!
PG Bois Blond today for my intro to the wonders of woody fragrances. Very happy it’s FriYAY.
Just finished an excellent yoga class and now eating my muesli and drinking the golden milk I just made (first time – it’s delicious) and hoping this makes up for being an absolute slug yesterday. I’ll walk later, too, but that’s more for sanity. 🙂
Hope everyone has a great day!
Sounds like a lovely FriYAY for you SpringPansy. Smelling fine too. Don’t you love Pierre Guillaume? SWOON
PG is awesome! And adding: Once our weather is cool for the fall, I’ll join you in Fendi.
Gardenia is a scent I love in flower form but find difficult to wear as it rather wears me, but I’m in Aftelier’s Cuir de Gardenia which I’m a huge fan of. The rather animalic leather note cuts the sweetness and nixes the shrillness — it’s a sexy, sweaty, close-to-the-skin gardenia and makes me feel lovely.
Ghastly air quality today so I’ve had to cancel my forest fieldwork and stay trapped inside all day, boo, hiss. Feeling rather dull and grey but at least I *smell* vibrant and lush.
You smell great! Sorry about your poor air quality.
Glad you’re able to stay in, though, even if it’s boring.
SOTD is Iris Silver Mist. I thought maybe I was weird for this one, of all the irises, getting me into iris, but apparently perfumelover67 & I are on the same wavelength!
Shouldn’t have been a long week (officially I’ve been on vacation for half of it) but somehow it has been. But my US passport finally came yesterday after waiting all summer, so that’s good news. Fingers crossed that we can go on the October long weekend.
You also smell great!
Congrats on the passport arriving and you do indeed smell wonderful!
Yay for passport!
ISM was definitely the top of the iris mountain for me and there has been no going back. Such a phenomenal fragrance showing iris in all her glory.
And yay about the passport! I hope you can get back to the San Juans soon.
Great – come on over to WA state!
Q for ISM lovers — for someone who has never tried it (me), do you think the current version worth trying? Or is this a “vintage or bust” scent?
I have not tried a recent version because I was told it was not the same. But hope someone who did try it will answer!
This does not exactly answer your question, but I have a Vaporisateur of ISM with a batch code of 2013. I purchased it through FragranceNet. It smells to me very much like the many descriptions I’ve read in reviews that date from its release until now. I find mine to be a haunting and beautiful perfume as is.
Great news on the passport. Positive thoughts on the vacation.
Commando so far, but my plan is to go with Jour d’Hermes for the blast of grapefruit at the top. It would work for next week’s project too since back in the day I would never have predicted grapefruit would be a scent I’d want on me, but it’s lovely.
Switched gears after reading the comments above about Coeur de Vetiver Sacre, to check my memory. No passion fruit or cherry pie for me — I still get hay and sweet grasses, and now that I’m an hour or so in, a hint of iris. Just lovely.
Hermes Hiris, a scent that definitely influenced my love of iris in perfumes.
Hiris, so good.
So, so good.
I am preshower but had already been a little “active” this morning perfumewise. I ordered BUB of Chinatown. Ok I am trying to go slow on perfume buying for myself to save great $$$ for Christmas this year. But I did decide to treat myself. I have an extensive perfume wishlist. But had recently REALLY norrowed it down to just 2: BUB of Chinatown and my own bottle of Swan Princess. Yup that’s it. I got the Chinatown backup though because got a great deal on it and because oh well I LOVE it too much. I think of myself this was a “boring” purchase because I already have Chinatown but trust me I just wanna bathe in it.
It’s great to find that true love in perfume 🙂
Absolutely. And I am excited because when my back up arrived I can spritz guilt free!!
Your love for Chinatown convinced me to pick up a sample recently and I’m trying it for the first time this afternoon. I get an almond note, and I’m wondering if Chinatown is what Elie Saab was going for (but fell short of) with Girl of Now. Have you tried that one?
Wearing Caleche, because it got me interested in soapy aldehydes. Love a good soapy aldehyde! Going back to read what others wrote now.
YUM! So good
Oh, good one.
I am wearing Chypre Mousse, the scent that taught me that I don’t hate all green scents, just all the ones I have smelled up until now except this one.
Still marveling over Pixel’s tiny feet from yesterday (I wear a ten) and a Kanuka sighting. Today I’m going to the luggage store to see if they can put new wheels on my suitcase. The airline broke one this last trip.
I’m an 11…. and yes, they called me flipper in H.S.. 😯
I wish I had big feet. Mine aren’t small, but I love the look of a big foot to hold everything up on. I usually get shoes that make my feet look bigger.
My late mother had very long, narrow feet — at least an 11, maybe larger, but something like AAA width. She would go to NYC to buy shoes at a store that specialized in unusual sizes, large and small. And yes, because shoes her size were so hard to find, she became a bit of a shoe hoarder, understandably! After she died, we probably donated 100 pairs of shoes, in carefully labeled original boxes, to charity.
I didn’t see Pixel’s comment, but I wear a 5.5 in sandals, so I can relate to the tiny feet. 🙂
5.5 twins 🙂
5.5 here too!!
I’m a size 10 too. I was a size 8 in HS. That’s how much my feet have grown. They’re wide too…got my Dad’s feet. My mom had lovely, narrow size 8.5.
Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger Neroli Blanc EDP which back in 2012 got me interested in orange blossom. It is now discontinued along with the great cologne and only Neroli Blanc intense – too cloying – was kept.
I love Neroli Blanc Intense. 🙂
? I’m sure I would enjoy it on other people.
SOTD = Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue
And my eyes rolled to the back of my head — my gateway iris fragrance.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CSytXeHrmHQ/?utm_medium=copy_link
I was naughty this week and have a few goodies to uncover ?, to be revealed soon. How could I not with a $s off offer from Saks that was almost 25% off (pre-tax) and getting a gift card on top of it? Someone else was naughty too (I think), but she will confess on her own.
Woo Hoo for down low spending sprees. Can’t wait to read what you scored Hajusuuri.
LOL! How funny that I was on the phone with the SA when you walked in to pick up your order. ;-). Busted!
Toss another enabler pin on your pile, hajusuuri. 🙂 I didn’t know about the Saks sale until you mentioned it. Just put in an order.
Wearing Tobacco Nuit by Atelier Cologne today. Though I’d worn tobacco scents before, the way it’s mixed here so thoroughly with a warm sweet amber made me really love it. Like it’s lifted the tobacco to another level.
Interestingly, it has also made me able to smell tobacco with more love in other perfumes.
You smell great, that’s probably my fave tobacco scent.
YAY! Snap on the tobacco faves cazaubon!
I love your phrase “smell tobacco with more love.” My current favorite with a tobacco note is Nirvana Amethyst.
Somewhere around here I have a little roll on of that. I’m going to check it out again. Thanks OH.
Wearing Lyric today. It was the first Amouage that I fell head over heels in love with when I first applied it. Was thinking of Cuir de Russie but didn’t seem to fit my mood today and I love a plush leather perfume.
Lyric is beautiful and you smell great!
Having a tough day…*grumble grumble* but I just doused myself in 4160 Tuesdays Rhubarb & Custard and expect things to improve any moment now… 😉
At least you smell great, and it’s Friday. 🙂
Sorry for the tough day, hope tomorrow is better!
Catching up. My mom’s from Ireland and used to make rhubarb with runny custard for dessert. Good memories. Hope your day got better!
Wearing Tonka Imperiale, my first introduction to tonka as a note.
Thanks to enabler extraordinaire hajusuuri, got my first colored bee bottles. Was only going to get one, but decided to get three and split the perfumes to reduce the expenditure, since I really only wanted the bottles. 😉 (I have plenty of stock bottles). Went for Cuir Beluga, Bois d’Arménie and Spiritueuse Double Vanille in turquoise, dark blue and gold bottles.
Can I put in dibs for a split already (Bois d”Amenie) ?! ?
Stay tuned for the next splitmeet!
My hand is up for that too please!
Heh, just got my first one recently. A purple bottle of Vol de Nuit. Did I need *more* Vol de Nuit? Of course not. But PURPLE! Now that, I needed 😉
Oh I am so jealous! Purple. 🙂
Totes jelly on this. I would like some Beluga plz lolol.
I always wanted the black bee one with the Beluga…le sigh lol
They had black, but I wasn’t sure if I would like it… really wanted purple or green.
I want a green bottle of Chanel No. 19. If I keep saying that, will it come true??
I’ve got the green cazaubon, Cuir Beluga.
Oh wow, those all sound gorgeous! And a purple Vol de Nuit??
Oh my gosh! Those sound lovely, and here I was totally unaware of colored bee bottles! Completely out of the loop. I hope you enjoy them immensely!
SOTD is vintage Nina Ricci Bigarade, only available for a brief time in the mid-1970’s, the fragrance that made me fall in love with bitter orange as a note (and also, oakmoss). ❤️ it then and ❤️ it now, one of the first fragrances I purchased from eBay long ago. Later, I might add a couple spritzes of Tocca Stella, the fragrance that made me fall in love with blood orange as a note ( and it also has a bitter orange note). Orange is my favorite citrus note, with ‘bitter’ and ‘blood’ varieties topping the list.
Like many of you, the news, both world and local, is so dismal lately it’s getting me down, too. And this week I learned that two of my favorite former coworkers passed away on the same day, and yesterday a cousin of mine died. But a bit of joy and hope to share with you: Butterfly #1, named Delia by my granddaughter, was born and released yesterday, and Butterfly #2, named Indiana Jones by my grandson, was born today and released just a little while ago. New life, in any form, gives me hope, and their birth makes my efforts at doing the little bit I can in my garden to help their survival worthwhile.
Sending a wish to all that you can find your own reasons to be hopeful and at least a few joyful moments this weekend. ?
Sending hugs, Laila. I’m so sorry about your losses, and your heavy heart. But thank you for sharing the news of your butterflies (what species?) and their awesome names! We’ve planted lots of native milkweed and Apiaceaes in our garden in the hopes of creating habitat for monarchs and swallowtails, but no takers this year. I did find a huge sphinx moth in the garden a week ago and suspect it may have emerged from my tomato patch, and the native bees and ladybugs have been in delirious delight all summer in our yarrow and sage and jimson weed.
Monarch’s; they were late this year but they finally arrived. We, too, have lots of native plants and several varieties of milkweed. I cut milkweed leaves that have been laid with Monarch eggs and keep them in several containers and am thrilled to see, first, the caterpillars, then the cocoons, then the butterflies. Raising Monarchs by Sue Fox McGovern is my ? bible – I highly recommend. ?
I’ll check it out! I saw one monarch on a recent trip to San Luis Obispo and almost wept.
Thanks for those recommendations. We have done no landscaping yet, but I plan to plant for pollinators and such. Milkweed is in the plan. Will look at that book.
I’m sorry for all your losses. Thank you for sharing about the butterflies, so lovely!
Thank you.?
I’m sorry to read of your losses. Butterflies sound lovely. If you like the note of blood orange, Atelier des Ors’ “Choeur des Anges” has a lovely one.
I’m not familiar with that scent and will definitely check that out. Thank you! ?
Oh dear, condolences to you Laila!
Thank you. ?
I’m very sorry for your losses.
Thank you. ?
So sorry to hear this. Sadly, I’ve been seeing it a lot over the last year and a half. The sense of loss can be disabling. I think your butterfly endeavor is absolutely wonderful! Wish I could join you in that…?
I got a new one from Sonoma Scent Studio. New to me. Amber Incense. Frankincense from top to bottom, with crazy longevity. It’s all natural which isn’t my preference since they are usually weak, but this one is wafty and lasts over night.
Immediately adding the word “wafty” to my lexicon… 😀
Naked and afraid (to be without scent on) lol. I better fix it with something old school…I so want something oakmossy and musty 90s..hmm but honestly do not wanna try to look for a sample that could fit this lol…naked I shall remain
Clothed with Youth Dew lol
*You* are in the royal robe – a desert island scent for sure, IMHO!!
I’m in 28 La Pausa edt! Absolute heaven; a huge thank you to the generous NST’ers – you know who you are! It’s not my gateway iris, but it has sent me down a deep(er) iris rabbit hole. If not for them I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to smell this beauty.
Went to the pub today for lunch; we hadn’t been there in over a year! It was so nice to get outside, see the blue sky and relax for a minute. Cheers everyone and Happy Friday!
Lucky you! It’s grey and overcast here, possible rain in the forecast (which I know we need but sigh…). Actually wearing sweatshirt and socks for the first time in suite a while.
I’m in Fat Electrician, which is the fragrance that turned me on to vetiver, I believe. Encre Noire wasn’t far behind. Vetiver was one of the first notes that I’d never heard of, yet went rather gaga over. ❤️
Well, we drove to Dallas yesterday to see the grandkids, and had to turn around and head home. My DIL was exposed to covid the day before at work, and found out shortly after we arrived. It was disappointing to have to leave, but it was the right thing to do. There will be better, safer days ahead.
Oh ugh! Hopefully nobody gets sick.
Hope you all will be well – but feel for you having to turn around! Vetiver was one of the first notes I had never heard of but my reaction was, “eww – glad to know what to avoid,” until I met my CP SotD! 😀
I’m sorry that this happened and hoping your DIL is okay. Fingers (and everything else!) crossed that brighter and safer days are ahead.
That’s a bummer. I hope everyone stays well.
Wishing good health for you and your family!
My first note love was amber and the perfume was MPG Ambre Precieux. I don’t have any of that now (must fix that!) and so instead I wore the king (queen?) of all amber perfumes, and my very favorite, MFK Grand Soir. Perhaps a bit heavy for hot humid Houston but SO very beautiful and, I might add, glamourous. :-).
Some friends have tested positive for Covid, despite both parents having been fully vaccinated. Their two boys are small and school age, so couldn’t be. They’ve (parents) gotten the antibody treatment and I’m sure will be OK, but it’s worrisome and makes Delta seem to be getting closer.
Yes, that’s pretty scary. My sense is it’s all around us but we may not know it.
Started out the day with Stash body oil for a morning’s sweaty work in the yard. I love it and it checks off sage, grapefruit, cedar, and vetiver: all note I normally dislike very cordially. But I am joining the vetiver crew post shower with SL Vetiver Oriental. It’s one of my top five Serge Lutens (I think, unless Fils de Joie has edged it out), and I only got it because I was garnering those 50ml bottles when they were first discontinued and were so cheap at the discounters. By that time, I had learned to trust M. Lutens (Arabie, Vitriol d’oeillet, Claire de Musc) so I threw it in the cart – one of my 50ml samples, LOL. Happy FriYAY and good to see some of the regulars who’ve been missing lately!
50 ml samples ?
I think I need to pass the praise or blame for that to Hajusuuri, except I think she said “100ml sample.” <3
Chanel No. 22 made me a fan of aldehydes, but I didn’t know it at the time! I started wearing No. 22 in my 20s, long before I knew anything about fragrance other than “what I like.”
You smell absolutely beautiful!
