Happy Friday and happy Happiness Happens Month! Our community project for today: wear a happy fragrance, and tell us about something that's made you happy recently.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm copying Isabella, who went with Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers on Wednesday. Things that are making me happy lately: a spate of windows-open summer weather (not today, though); my new-ish folding step thru e-bike; my sister moving a couple hours away, at least for a few years (she usually lives overseas); and a family beach vacation coming up at the end of this month. Also, PG Wodehouse, who has provided much of my evening reading lately, as a palate cleanser between two somewhat dire books (The Fishermen and Klara and the Sun).
Reminder: 8/13 is Alfred Hitchcock's birthday (and Friday the 13th)...wear whatever seems to fit the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Oh, I am the first to report in.
I am feeling holiday vibes with lots of Batucada, wishing I had a Caipirinha and a pool nearby.
Happy weekend!
I would take a caipirinha by the pool…but will do my best to finish chores cheerfully this morning, ha.
I always read that perfume name as “bagna cauda”, which is delicious, but not necessarily how I’d want to smell. It confuses me every time!
I have the same confusion! But I visualize the “warm bath” element of bagna cauda, as opposed to the smell of the dish. 😀
A Caipirinha actually sounds pretty good right now…
I’m wearing Clinique Wrappings, which smells like happiness — fizzy, shimmery aldehydes and bright greenery, like a flower garden in Shangri-La. (Some people on the Fragrantica page insist it’s a cold-weather scent and must never be worn in hot weather, which is nonsense: it’s incandescent regardless of the season.)
Two things have made me happy this week. The first is my 34th anniversary a few days ago: someone actually managed to put up with me for over a third of a century, which hardly seems possible, but we’re still crazy about each other. And the second is this piano rendition of Handel’s Harmonious Blacksmith, three minutes of utter joy — effervescent, effortless, magical. I’ve been listening to it over and over and it’s just incomparable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mza-xqk770k
Happy anniversary! 🙂
I agree, Wrappings is a gloriously happy and fizzy scent, regardless of season. I love it in Summer.
Happy anniversary!
34 is an achievement, congrats!
Happy anniversary!!
Happy anniversary!!!
Happy anniversary to you and the smart person who has put up with you!
Happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary and listening to the Handel now!
Oh agreed with Wrappings- it’s beautiful, has a glorious trail and people always ask “what are YOU wearing” with a smile!
And Happy Anniversary! I love romance- especially long ones!
Congratulations on your anniversary, you smell great.
Wow, #34 is phenomenal! Congratulations!
Happy Anniversary, pyramus! And for the mini-concert. ?
Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary!
Happy, happy anniversary from a cold-weather wearing Wrappings fan.?. And thank you for sharing that beautiful ?!
Happy anniversary! Wrappings is lovely.
Happy Anniversary Pyramus!
I have never smelled Wrappings (will need to remedy that) but listening to that piano rendition of the Harmonious Blacksmith definitely brightened my evening. Thank you for that!
Happy 34th Anniversary! That is impressive! ✨??
And you smell wonderful. ITA about Wrappings!
You smell great today.
Robin, I had a feeling that Azemour would turn up somewhere in this week for you! This week’s theme has made me reflect on the many different flavors of happiness that exist. If I was going for sunny-day, leaping-through-the-flowery-meadows happy, I’d be wearing AG Le Chevrefeuille but since I’m in the mood for something quieter and more comforting (but still very happiness-inducing) I’m doing a side-by-side comparison of The 2nd Cumming and After Party. They’re close, but After Party is a titch sharper and lacks something very warm and sweet and buttery in the base that’s in 2nd Cumming. It smells like 2nd Cumming diluted with a bit of Black March — still very nice, but it doesn’t quite purr like my old favorite…
The type of happiness on my mind a lot these days is the happiness born of gratitude. Gratitude for the time I got to spend with a dear friend on Monday and for the way she and her husband group-hugged me after jump-starting my car. Gratitude for the local mechanic who came over to my house to jump-start it again in order to get it to his shop, and the next-town-over mechanic who came to pick it up and repair it under warranty at his shop and found a way to expedite the work, and then shuttled it back up to the local shop with help from his girlfriend, and then again for the local mechanic who drove it to my house and left it in my driveway when I wasn’t looking. Gratitude that while smoke has finally descended on us today, thus far this year we’ve avoided most of the agonies of last year — I literally feel a lift in my heart every single day that we can open the windows, that we’re not in danger. And of course, brimming-over joy for my son — who I’ll finally get to see tomorrow. I tried to tidy up an avalanching pile of his drawings a few days ago and thought I’d cull some of them and keep the best ones, and I discovered that he’d written variations on “LOVE MAMA LOVE MAMA I LOVE MAMA” on the back of every single one. Ergo, nothing was thrown away. 🙂
Le Chevrefeuille is indeed a seriously happy fragrance!
What a nice bunch of good things, and so happy you’ll see your son this weekend, that’s lovely.
I always get this one confused with French cheese. In my mind it a flaky cheese tartlet. Sad, I know.
*weeping with laughter…*
It sounds like a cheese!
Aww, that’s a lot of things to be happy for!
Wonderful list of happy things.
Yay for all your auto help, loving son and gratitude! 🙂
You story of your son’s drawings makes me happy!
That’s a lot of happy!
Beautiful thoughts on gratitude! ?
? What a sweet boy you have.
Very touching!
I am feeling fresh in Ninfeo Mio
My happy moment was digging into the last of the baguette this morning for breakfast , eating it with salami and sheep’s cheese with lots of butter and olive oil.
Trying to push through the last 100 pages of the violent Black Leopard Red Wolf book ?
Hair is still good today after trying the soap bar from yesterday.
Your breakfast sounds delicious! I love Laura Chenel Spreadable Goat Milk cheese on toast with honey. Decadent but delicious!
Thanks! I do love any kind of spreadable cheese
If you haven’t, try it – it’s sooo hard not to eat my way through the entire carton. Wonderful complexity and very smooth & creamy.
The very idea of spreadable goat cheese makes me happy.
Oh, that is a BREAKFAST!
Mmmmm wish I could have joined you for that breakfast!
I’m in Un Jardin Sur Le Toit, and I’m happy that I just ordered a full-size backup bottle.
Congrats on the new bottle!
I still have to try that one
Lovestosmellgood, I have a vat and would love to send you some.
Aww ! Great ! Thank you 🙂

Robin: PG Wodehouse is wonderful! I also remember watching and loving The Jeeves &Wooster series when I was younger. I wonder if I should re-watch them or spend that time re-reading the books?
I have missed so many community projects lately that I needed to wear two perfumes today. I applied some Homage by Amouage in the morning. Somehow it always makes me feel happy and peaceful (as long as I dont think about the price or its discontinuation). My bottle is from a less-rosy batch and I really needed to smell the roses today so I added some vintage Nahema (extrait) in the afternoon. We are in early evening now and I am in olfactory heaven.
This will sound so naive, stupid and self-evident but when I think or happiness, I see my children. It has been like this since the birth of my first one a bit more than seven years ago. Yes, they drive me nuts every now and them (especially when they reflect my most annoying traits), but I am so grateful to have them. I hope they will grow up to make the world a happier and better place to others too.
I like both! But there are so many books & stories that never made it to the series.
Also when I re-read PGW I usually stick with Jeeves & Wooster, but was just thinking it might be time to re-read the Blandings series and/or Psmith, both of which are wonderful.
Thank you for the recommendation, I think I will choose Blandings instead, as I haven’t read them yet.
Have you already had a Wodehouse Friday in community projects? His novels are full of wonderful characters, it would be fun to try to scent-match them.
I know Wodehouse has fans here, but seriously doubt enough people read him to do a full scale community project? Would be fun though!
Enjoy those childhood years! I loved that time too, when mine were little. Just take lots of photos and videos, because some day, it will become a blur!
I know… incidentally, my current project is to finish the photo albums from these first seven years. The photos are here, now I just have to stick them to the albums, write the descriptions and ask the kids to add some decorations.
Wearing Mugler Take Me Out. A really cheerful orange blossom!
Things have been hectic for me lately, we’re having to move just a few months after a major move down from Alaska because Mr’s job that came with the apartment didn’t work out. But the good news is that we just got approved for a place, well ahead of the time we need to be out of this one. Good news!
Ouch, sorry you have to move again so soon. Glad you secured a place though.
Oof, that’s too soon of an upheaval! I’m glad you have a place lined up to move to, though, and hopefully Mr.’s job prospects are looking good.
Cheerful orange blossom is always a good idea, in my book!
Good news and wishing you good luck!
Ugh! Another move, so soon?
I went with Diptyque Eau Capitale today. So glad it’s Friday already.
Enjoy your weekend Lucasai!
Good morning, all! I finally made it in to post, although I’ve been playing along at home this week. My SotD is Diptyque Geranium Odorata, which said “happy” to me from the first spritz and still does. ?
Robin, what a great theme for this week’s CP. I’ve only read 4 posts so far (I’m including yours,) and I already feel better! It’s not been a very happy week here, but things are looking up, and I’m happy about the DH’s impending return tomorrow from a week-long biz trip to Seoul. I’m sure he’s even happier about it than I am, lol!
I hope things get better! It seems this has been a difficult week for many (myself included)…
Seoul (and Tokyo) are on my list of must-visit places. I keep hoping for someday…..
I feel like many are having a bad week
Uh huh. Lots of wild energy in the zodiac going on.
Thanks, SmokeyToes. I hope you make it there some day! I would add Tokyo as well. And Osaka. ?
It’s been a bad week for me too, is Mercury retrograde or something?
Close! As far as I could make out, it’s Uranus making trouble with the Sun. And other uncomfortable goings-on among the big planets.
Really glad you liked the theme! And hope things settle down when your husband gets home tomorrow.
Thank you, Robin! ?
Hope that the next week is an improvement for you.
Aw, thanks, Jalapeño.
I’m going to be wearing Sylvaine Delacourte’s Osiris-a happy, pleasant, (what I feel is) non-offensive orange blossom. Yesterday the judge made it sound like today will be our last day in jury duty so here’s hoping!
Good luck sostara — hope it’s wrapping up!
Thank you! Yes! It was the last day and the gave us fancy donuts as a treat. A great way to start the weekend!
Perfect!!
Morning all, my SOTD is Bandit extrait. I need leather and galbanum for fortitude and comfort. Busy and stressful work week. Being bleary-eyed from lack of sleep doesn’t help. A visit to the gym will cure many ills today! 🙂
What gave me joy this week was discovering a recipe for butter chicken that looks like a must-try. Since we moved out of SF earlier in the Spring, finding a good Indian restaurant has been a challenge. Recipe for Butter chicken is below.
I purchased a few new tops on sale – more joy in the mail. 🙂
TGIF everyone!
https://getpocket.com/explore/item/with-this-simple-recipe-you-ll-wonder-why-it-took-you-so-long-to-make-butter-chicken-from-scratch?utm_source=pocket-newtab
Stressful work week buddy ? Goodness is up ahead, I know it!
Shopping for new tops always gives me joy
I am a big fan of stripes in my wardrobe, found a few French-Sailor style shirts at Petit Bateau that are adorable.
Bandit extract should help in the fortitude department! I love that stuff.
Smokeytoes, I am going to wait until you make that and tell me it’s fantastic!
I will report back!
Can’t really get into the happiness theme right now, wearing Bengale Touge and waiting for better days ahead.
Bengale Rouge that is.
My brain initially corrected that to “Bengale Tongue”. ??
Me too ??
Hope the better days come quickly!
Thank you!
yes, yes the weekend is upon us.
happiest when my sister and I find ourselves in seats 3a and 3b starting our next travel adventure so it will be a while longer.
SOTD is a new happy – OJ Damask. just a touch as it is warm here.
no video meetings on Friday so an old t-shirt and just sunscreen will work.
It will be awhile longer for me too…it is sinking in lately that it may be a very long time before I go anywhere.
No sotd yet, but I will probably wear something light. I’m happy today because we finally get to go visit my hubby’s parents. Things have been put off until we were all vaccinated, but then came the heat and fires all around the province. The smoke has finally cleared from my window view (but the fires haven’t); we should be able to sit outside and visit anyways. Rain is in the forecast for Sunday.
We will be watching a football game with my hubby’s Dad (and of course we cheer for opposite teams!) – always fun! It’s the first game for us since 2019. And I made a giant batch of Russian Salad to take over.
Enjoy your visit!
Thank you!
I don’t know how I’ve never heard of Russian Salad, since a google search makes it clear it’s a well known thing.
Enjoy your long awaited visit!
I know, me too! A co-worker friend originally from Bulgaria gave us some and I had to have her recipe. Very simple: boiled potatoes and carrots, canned peas and dill pickles all smothered in mayonnaise. It’s definitely not diet friendly but it sure tastes good.
There’s probably other versions out there but this one is pretty good. It’s become my go-to for potato salad.
This sounds like something I can make! I’m going to try it!
Interesting, thank Gail!
I’m also in Azemour this morning, and clearly in very good company! Azemour never fails to make me happy. ? In other happy news, it might actually drizzle here this morning! That isn’t usually a happy thing, but right now it’s sorely needed and much appreciated … even if it IS rather humid out there. Ahh, ? ☔️
Hey twin! Hope you got decent rain. We need it too.
SOTD is Byredo Pulp, because who doesn’t need a shouty happy perfume every now and then 🙂
Looks like it’ll be smoky today and then clear out, so yay for that.
I was awakened at 2 am by a fox yowping on my front deck. We’ve been seeing and hearing lots of foxes this week, so cool.
Pulp is such a good call for this CP! I’m going to join you in it once my SOTM fades.
I’m having fox envy!
Well, one of them pooped in a pair of old shoes that my husband left outside. I bet you’re not so envious of THAT.
Really? Oh dear. Well, err maybe it was time to get rid of those shoes. . . ?
Yes, yes it was.
Fox twins.
Oh, I have a fox thing because my little redhaired Papillon dog looks like a fox. 🙂 But ugh to pooping in your shoes!
Thank you for the laugh about fox poop pixel! I needed something like that.
Good morning.
Thanks to all the well wishes yesterday, I am feeling better. Still have a bit to go but I am positive! So that I am happy about. 🙂
Sotd is TF Fleur de Chine. I am happy that I bought a bottle and also the massive 280ml refill (or more? Anyway it’s the big one) before they did the crazy thing of discontinuing it.
280ml! That’s a lot of perfume!
Missed the post but adding to the well wishes for you.
Sending well wishes to you! You smell fantastic!
Wearing Epic today. Epic was the first Amouage full bottle that I bought. Going to Hale farm and Village today.
Hale Farm & Village looks interesting, hope it is a good trip!
Mon Precieux Nectar, my happy sweet modern Guerlain! I have owned more bottles from this house than any other. Shalimar (several versions), Mitsouko, Apres l’Ondee, Samsara, Jardins de Bagatelle, Insolence, Chant des Aromes, Spirituese Double Vanilla, the list goes on…don’t have actual bottles of all of these right now…
So happy – my sweet pony got another dose of IV antibiotics this morning, and the vet confirmed my impression that she is responding well, eating, more active, clearly feeling less sorry for herself – yesterday she was very droopy, poor old dear. He will come back and give her another dose tomorrow just to make sure. She gets vaccinated with all sorts of things, every spring, but apparently now we need to add this to the list! Vaccinate your livestock, your pets, your children, your extended family, and yourselves…
Glad to hear she is doing better
So glad about your pony.
Glad to hear she’s on the upswing!
My replacement bottle of Mohur Extrait is flowing into the pony’s veins, but, what can you do? Allocation of extra money is a first world problem for sure. We have given this sweet girl a comfortable retirement home, and she is grateful for it, in her pony way. When we got home from vacation, she followed adorable hubby closely for several days, just to make sure he wasn’t going to disappear again…
That’s so sweet. I’m glad she’s feeling better.
Glad she is feeling better!
Good news on your pony and continued get well wishes being sent her way.
Glad your baby is doing better!
Glad to hear good news re: your sweet horse!
Happy Friday! SOTM is Bottega Veneta Parco Palladiano II Cipresso. A bright, translucent cypress. It reminds me of taking hikes at the state park near my hometown, where the trees grew close enough to beach that the “forest” floor was more sand than soil and the fresh forest air mixed with the fresh beach air.
Clearly I’m starting to feel a little nostalgic for my hometown now that my parents have moved and I can’t go whenever the fancy stikes me. But the joy of having my parents and my sister live less than 10 minutes away far outweighs any hometown wistfulness. (And also glad that they are no soooo close that I have an Everybody Loves Raymond situation on my hands. My sister, however, now has only only a half block of buffer from my folks….)
I expect Cipresso will be gone by the late afternoon, so I think I’ll join pixel in Pulp later on today for a second blast of scented happiness.
I was very plesed with my combination of clipper ship assam and nutcracker teas, so I’m sipping on that again today.
I haven’t heard of your Sotd , Sounds interesting
It seems to me that the Parco Palladiano line is Bottega Veneta’s version of Prada’s Exclusives; each focused on a different note (although not soliflores) and exorbitantly priced.
Bergdorfs carries this line.
Longtime lurker, occasional poster here. I’m not sure if you saw my response to you a few weeks ago, but I’m pretty sure we grew up in the same town. Your Clipper Ship teas made me suspect that, and your Sweet Shop reference convinced me! 🙂
I get super homesick even after being gone 20+ years and I dream about retiring there (probably need to stop buying perfume if I want that to happen!). One nice part about growing up in such a scenic area is that there are lots of talented amateur photographers who post pics on Facebook. It’s no replacement for the smell of waffle cones or the water, but it takes the edge off. There’s also a group that posts about the bald eagle family living in the next town over. I usually ignore social media, but I’m so grateful for it in this case.
Oh wow! I missed your response a few weeks ago, but just looked and found it in my email. I don’t meet many people from “Cow Harbor.” I had my 20th high school reunion a few years ago, so it sounds like we might have grown up there around the same time.
Thanks for the tip about following some photographers from the area. That’s a great idea. I do keep tabs on the eagle family 🙂
If you want a taste of home (err – a sip of home), Clipper Ship launched a website a few months ago so you can order their teas online now. In case you hadn’t heard, Clipper Ship moved to Htgtn after the fire at Gunther’s, but the Artisan House recently re-opened in that space, so while I miss having the tea shop in town, I do love seeing the Artisan House back in its old home. And the Japanese restaurant in the old Sea Shanty space has closed, but a new sea food restaurant is going to open there. I hope it has a Sea Shanty vibe because that was my favorite restaurant, broke my heart when it closed.
Other NSTers, please forgive the hyper local gossip.
In Santal de Kandy because the decant jumped into my hand. My general fine fettle has been due to both of my sons having a great summer at last. More materially, I am very much looking forward to our first full on family holiday in years, in mid-August. And I guess in terms of the larger world, while democracy appears to be contracting in every region of the globe, south to north, I am very fortunate that I work with people and organizations that every day pursue extending the franchise and protecting human rights.
Yayyyy to this whole post. 🙂
Second that Yayyyy! I’m so glad to hear your sons are having fun, in particular. Crafting opportunities for positive experiences for the young ‘uns has been so challenging laterly.
Another yay!
I am glad for You, Robin about the things that have been making You happy!! Very nice to have a sister first of all (I’m an only child) and sweet she is moving closer to You.
My SotD = Sticky Cake. My favorite iris and I love it so.
I love Sticky Cake! You smell so good.
Yes it made me happy wearing it today 🙂
Thank you! My sisters (I have 2) annoyed me most of my life, but now of course they are crucial.
SOTD = Lancôme La Vie Est Belle Intensement
From my newest full bottle: fruity-berry, iris, vanilla, benzoin and patchouli!

In happy news, my very beautiful niece sold her first short story which will be published in a horror anthology! She kept persisting and woop! She’s also preggers with child number 2!
In other happy news, I am off on Monday so it will be a longish weekend. I will be taking off the last 2 Mondays of August as well as I have a first world problem of having a good number of vacation days.
Oh, what wonderful news for your niece! That’s SO awesome!
And same with vacation days! I need to utilize mine before being let go in November!
Thank you! Normally they would lay you for the unused unless you were told to use them up.
Yay for vacation days and big congrats to your niece!
Thanks. She is over the moon!
First publication is so great! Congrats to her, and enjoy your long weekends
Thank you. I should be a little bit more ambitious with how to spend the extra days.
Congrats to your niece!
And what a beautiful bottle! ?
Thank you and yes, the bottle is extra nice and can actually heavy as a paperweight.
Congratulations to your niece for her first publication, and for bambino #2! And YAY to you for a long weekend!
Thank you. The first one is always bottersweet after several tries with different genres.
Congratulations to your niece!
Thanks!
I am doing Fruitchouli Friday in Azzaro Wanted Girl. ?
Orange blossom? ✅
Patchouli? ✅
Vanilla? ✅
Stop, She-ra! Stop creating easily-obtainable lemmings. If the paper strip I smelled was at all true, you smell wonderful. I could not think of a targeted audience less like me than the ads suggest for AWG, but I loved the way that test strip smelled on me. 😀 And I love all sorts of classics, but I am not ashamed to love me some fruitchoulis!
Seconding this, She-ra! Your orange blossom & vanilla kick lately has had me seeing if adding a spritz of Vanilla Flash to one of the orange blossoms I already have would calm my lemming, but he is antsy for Sintra and it is all your fault! 🙂
Friday!
1) In Sunshine Mimosa body mist- for waking up!
And then Joy EDT later on for meeting up with vaccinated friends! Pizza and maybe a wee bit too much wine to go along with it! Joy is Joy, of course, but Sunshine Mimosa has been a surprise favorite this summer- fruity, fizzy and very fresh without being super sweet!
2) A light misty rain this morning- so appreciated, so needed!
Have a great time with your friends Ede97005! Joy is indeed joy.
Hi friends! Long time, no post. I still wear perfume everyday I just have been posting about it. Life has been crazy. Trying to get settled into the new house and then also get it painted and updated all while working. Just chaos.
Today I am wearing OJ Sampaquita which I do think is a happy scent! So many of that line are for me. Frangipani, Osmanthus, Tiare etc.
Things that make me happy lately are the animals I see in my neighborhood, my new house, and the wonderful weather we’ve been having. I’m also happy that my best friend’s mom is free from her cancer battle. Sickened she is gone so soon (3 months sick at 58 years old) but also joyful she is free of the pain. Will be heading to NM for a few days to spending with my friend. They can’t have the funeral until the 30th thanks to COVID backups but still want to be with them and support them this weekend. Trying to decide what scents to take- something super glamorous to honor her, as she was so glamorous and the best hostess always!
Congratulations on your new home. I love decorating! And picking out paint..
LOL, Lovestosmellgood: we are evil decorating twins! I only reluctantly decorate so that I can deploy treasured family items, and all my walls are white!
What a thoughtful friend you are.
KellyC, I feel very happy thinking of you making a trip for your friend, and I offer sympathy for the passing of your dear friend’s dear Mother. Yes! for super glamourous perfumes – let us know what you pick.
Agree about OJ! I almost wore Frangipani today.
Hope the house is looking fantastic KellyC, and do enjoy your time with your friend even under the sad circumstances.
That’s quite sad but your friend managed to get married while mom was alive. You’re a good friend!
Wearing Kyoto for a visit to a retina specialist that is suckling up my whole day. Once I get cleared that my eye is ok, then I’m getting cataracts removed and I’m happy about that! Have a good weekend everyone.
Hope your appointment goes well!
Good luck with your eye
Hope you get to see more clearly soon!
Sorry you have to spend the day dealing with a medical visit, but you smell terrific and it sounds like a brighter outcome is on the near horizon!
Good luck with your appointment!
Good luck!
Good luck and wishing you a speedy resolution to your eye issue.
Good luck! My husband was thrilled with the results of his cataract surgery.
Mine was too and mine are so bad, I can hardly wait! And the retina doc says I’m all clear for surgery, so yay. Thanks for the well wishes 🙂
Good luck with both the eye specialist, and your upcoming eye surgery! ???
Good luck ringthing!
Glad you were cleared!
Wearing Brocard 5O’Clock My Cup of tea which makes me almost as happy and serene as having an earl grey tea.
Earlier this week I exchanged a long look with a fox who was sitting in the front yard of a house in my neighborhood, he was so close and unafraid it seems.
What an exciting nature encounter. 🙂
It did feel like a special moment.
I was remarking on this to my husband recently…what is with all the foxes, wandering about unafraid of humans lately? It worries me. Do they have rabies? Have they just lost all their predators? They’re like rabbits now.
I think it’s more that they’ve had to get used to us as our cities and towns have encroached on their territory but they are still weary of dogs in my experience, I understand your concern about rabies but it’s rare.
Thanks. And my neighborhood doesn’t have many dogs.
Around here we’re seeing families — so perhaps it’s just the time of year when the pups are big enough to be getting hunting lessons from mom.
And several of my neighbors got pandemic chickens, I’m sure that’s oh so tempting to the foxes. One of my neighbors tried having ‘free range’ chickens in her yard. They didn’t last long.
We used to have way more coyotes than we do lately; I wonder if fewer coyotes = more foxes. Not sure what happened to the coyotes.
Oh duh, why didn’t I think of that? We have lots more chickens in our neighborhood (actually, 5 years ago I’m pretty sure we had none).
I remember seeing a program about urban foxes on TV a while ago, and how well they’ve adapted to having lots of humans as neighbors. Most of the time, people don’t even know that they are around. So your moment was very special. ?
It makes sense, we have foxes but of course they are mainly active at night so we don’t see them, so I was thrilled, such intelligent eyes.
Wearing Jour Ensolleille because it reminds me of where I got married…Healdsburg, CA. We are at almost 24 years, and I’m often amazed at how two such different people can be so bound together. Me, the introverted, stoic Westerner. My husband, the emotional extrovert who lives for the moment and must express every thought or feeling out loud. ???
I’m a bit as Isabella described. I feel extraordinarily blessed most days. My moment today was when Agnes snuggled next to me in bed to be petted just before I got up. And my shower. Which is huge and makes me feel like I’m on vacation every time I step into it. And all the wildflowers around town. The knowledge of those will, I hope, carry me through the very long winter that will inevitably arrive.
I once told a boss I didn’t think too much about happiness. There are times I’m not happy. But I have joy.
So funny…we have been married about the same amount of time, but I am the emotional introvert, and my husband is the stoic extrovert, ha!
All this talk of being married about 25 years, which applies to me and my husband too, and extraversion/introversion preferences makes me think about the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and how knowing our preferences on the 4 scales: extraversion/introversion, sensing/intuition, thinking/feeling and judgement/perception has really helped us to understand each other better and to have language to to talk about our differences in more constructive ways than “Why are you intentionally trying to annoy me?!”
Yes, I used to know my type but have now forgotten.
But I also I would never get my husband to get interested in such a thing. His whole life philosophy is “grin and bear it”, and people who don’t grin and bear it (including me) are whiners & complainers, and he is so sure of this that trying to convince him otherwise is futile.
Wearing Fils de Dieu today, which always makes me happy. It’s making me happy today specifically because it makes me think of international travel, which is something I look forward to doing again some day.
Lately, happiness has come in the form of local travel. I got to see my baby niece, who I’ve only met once before in her 2+ years of life (thanks, pandemic)! I got to swim a lot! Then when I returned to the job, I was able to complete a complicated move.
Overall, I’ve been feeling a lot of middle-age contentment recently. I’m not as cute as I once was, but I have a lot more skills. I don’t know the same people I used to, or have quite such a fabulous social life (again, thanks, pandemic), but the social life I have is really solid. If this is what middle age is going to be like, I’m pretty stoked about it.
Satisfaction – gotta love it!
Hermes 24 Faubourg, a scent that makes me happy 🙂
I should wear this too. You smell nice!
Cabotine for me – still trying to decide if I like it!
Cabotine is supposed to be close to Dior Tendre Poison. I think you smell great!
In Chanel 19 EdT, which always makes me very happy!
A reason for me to be happy this week: one of my cousins called last weekend to share the wonderful news that he and his wife will meet their adopted 18 month old boy for the first time on August 16th. There is so much joy and hope and beautiful plans in their lives! It has been a very long process. Hope to meet our new family member sometime in the fall, when they are ready for it. So excited about it! ?
Happy Friday, everyone ?
That is truly exciting! Wishing everyone the best!
Thank you, Laila! ?
Happy news for your family! ?
They are! ?
You smell great and your news is even better!
Thank you! ?
Congratulations and the best of luck to them!
Thank you, Lillyjo! ?
Good morning! Right now, I’m very happy to say that it’s Saturday morning and the sun is shining. The forecast is for rain, but that doesn’t spoil the moment right now.
There are the long term things that make me happy, like family and friends, our two cats that continue to be a delight (Deuc is proving to be a very good hunter, specialising in rats that live in the bush behind our building – another dead rat in the house is a less delightful moment).
Then there are the immediate happy moments. My latest perfume purchase arrived yesterday, Armani Privé Encens Satin. I also got an email telling that the two new Amouages will be coming to my local perfumery. I haven’t really liked any of their recent perfumes, but I’m ever optimistic. So I’m hoping my SOTD later might be Material.
I hope you got to try the new Amouages!
I’m wearing Angel Muse this morning, it’s a happy perfume. Who can’t be happy smelling like dessert? Yesterday’s home fixes went 50% well. The tub doors are removed (thank you DeWalt tools) but the lock replacement was impossible for me. I couldn’t get the handle off and called a locksmith, who couldn’t get it off either. He finally twisted the stem with a pair of vice grips to break the spring and found that the door (47 years old) has been drilled so many times that there isn’t any wood structure left to mount a new lock. He will come back Sunday with wood and some metal braces now that he knows what’s needed. The joys of home ownership never end! I did go sniffing yesterday at Saks but didn’t find anything I wanted.
I must say after purchasing my first home three weeks ago that I look forward to selling it and never buying another one.
I have to chuckle at the irony in today’s ‘happy’ cp and Happiness Happens Month, as the past week or so has been more Mis-Happens for me. A series of miscommunications, misunderstandings and mishaps on a variety of fronts have left me pretty grumpy lately, so I’m hoping that with today’s cp my stars will realign and Happiness will Happen!
I chose YR’s long d/c Ode a la Joie as my SOTD. Its bright yellow packaging, name, and burst of citrus – mandarin, bergamot, orange, and lemon – with a wonderful pineapple note at the top – certainly make it a cheery scent, and a soft blend of lily and jasmine and a bit of musk and an unnamed blend of ‘sunny tropical notes’ in the drydown make it a summer favorite of mine.
Last week’s visit with my grandtwins was definitely happy! Between the pandemic and their reaching teenagehood I haven’t seen them as much as I used to, but it was just like old times (except now I have to look up to them as they’re taller than me!). Brings a smile to my face whenever I think of it. ?
Hoping to get in a couple of outdoor concerts this weekend despite the heat, humidity, and occasional storms predicted. Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead. Here’s hoping Happiness Happens for you! ?
Congrats on seeing your grandtwins!
Hey Laila, Your team is the White Sox, right? They are doing so well! It’s starting to get exciting!
I hope it’s a better week ahead for you.
Thank you, NSTers, for all the wonderful and supportive comments last night. I did not comment directly to all of them, but I sure did read each and every one.

This one makes me smile every time I hear it. But what exactly does “Tin roof, rusted” mean? ? Thanks for indulging in my MTV trip down memory lane.
Some things that have made me happy lately: butterflies. For the past 2 weeks, I have seen quite a few of the big, beautiful yellow-and-black tiger swallowtails. Each instance reminds me that moments of beauty and happiness will come my way, if I am open to the possibility. ???
SOTD = Fendi Theorema Esprit d’Ete, from the decant stash and one of you NSTers. This is a happy-making perfume to begin with, and the fact that someone shared part of their precious stash makes it that much more special. Thank you.
Perfect! I actually have this on my Apple Music or whatever it’s called now. It’s second on the playlist and I get to losten to eat each time I take a walk!
listen listen listen … just when you need spellcheck, it failed!
That seems to be one of spellcheck’s “features”. Fails when you really need it, makes corrections when you don’t.
I love Love Shack! I actually saw the B-52s perform live in the 1990s, such fun. I hope you find much comfort in butterflies, and perfume.
I’ll bet that was a great concert!
It was! And outside, which was even better.
P.S. Some sources say that “Tin roof rusted” is slang for being pregnant.
I have enjoyed MTV week immensely!
I haven’t seen many butterflies here yet.
There might be a “bonus round” during the Weekend Poll. Stay tuned!
SOTD for happiness is Perfumology’s Blyss! Very pretty parfum.
And what makes me happy recently is that my two young adult children who had to live at home for the past year have been able to start new jobs and move into their own digs this summer! Not too far away, though, which also makes me happy.
Happy for everyone, how great!
Sotd is Lotusland X Heretic Osmanthus Perfume which is making me very happy. And NST makes me happy, possibly poorer, but always happy 🙂
Lol! Nst makes me happy too.
?
SotD Covet Pure Bloom. I love the bottle; it is nothing like Covet; it is very much like Juicy Couture. I am fine with that, but CPB is just a work-day scent that would be good for a spritz after work. I’d be interested to to know if anyone got a night shot!
Sorry typos & auto correct; wondered if anyone got a distinct scent?
I think Delicious Delights might have a review on YouTube for Covet Pure Bloom.
Wish I could help, but I never smelled that one.
My happiness came around 5 o’clock today when I finally started to feel like I turned the corner towards feeling better.
I have been spritzing Orange Sanguine all day. This is a very happy perfume. It reminds me of summer (another happiness) ?
Whoo hoo for you feeling better! That’s a relief to hear.
Glad to hear that! Tomorrow will be even better! ?
So glad you’re feeling better! I hope you can enjoy your weekend!
Glad you’re feeling better!
