Wednesday scent of the day 8/4

Posted by Robin on 4 August 2021 222 Comments

It’s Hump Day, Coast Guard Day and Louis Armstrong's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Tauer Perfumes L'Eau.

Reminder: on 8/6 we're celebrating Happiness Happens Month. Wear a happy fragrance, and tell us about something that's made you happy recently.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

What a lovely, yet melancholy picture.
Today will be one of the Chanel Eau – not sure yet.

Can anyone tell me if le labo Vanilla 44 is the best? the worst? a yawner? I am tempted to get a small one during city month.

Ack, did I pick a melancholy picture for Happiness Happens month?

My review of Le Labo Vanille 44:

Vanille 44 was the first city exclusive I tried and I immediately fell in love with it. Luckily, a generous NSTer got me in on a split. I’m sure you can guess who.?
To my nose, it’s more of an incense than a vanilla.

      Apsara,
Vanille 44 is lovely and understated (a dry vanilla accompanied by woods and incense). I absolutely love it.
I hosted a split a few years ago, finished my remaining 30 mLs and purchased another bottle since. If it’s only 10 mLs or so that you are interested in, you can email me at arzeznik in the land of comcast with a dot and a net and we can discuss. That is, if you haven’t already acquired it ?

I love dry vanilla and find that in JM Golden Vanilla and Vetiver.
I am ordering the city sample kit and it has a sample in there.

I’m in Santal33 after talking about it the other day.
It’s another sunny day and it’s the last day of my 6 day weekend. Back to work tomorrow. I’m not gonna complain though because it’s been gorgeous the entire time I’ve been off and I’ve loved every minute of it. I feel recharged, refreshed, and ready to head back.
Gonna head downtown to an outdoor cafe in a bit, sip some chai and read the book that I just started: The Midnight Library. I’m just 50 pages in, but it feels like it’s gonna be a good one.?

Tauer L’Eau sounds absolutely lovely. I’m commando so far, having gotten up very early to take the trash and recycle bins out to the curb – usually Mr. G’s job, but he’s off bonding with his son and Doing Manly Things In A Manly Fashion. ? I’ll be joining apsara in Chanel later, and two things are making me very, very happy right now – one is my new computer, which arrived intact and exactly as promised), and the other is the commencement of sorely needed work on the back yard. Right now the deck is gone, and this weekend some more of the unsightliness will be dug out and removed. Progress!

      Manliness happens too :-)

I got a new computer a couple weeks ago, and yes — getting one intact that works, it is a joy, isn’t it?

Hope the back yard will turn out lovely!

Hurray for progress on back yard projects! We got a couple done this spring/summer, huge improvement though relatively small projects. One was replacing the very small “deck” and stairs outside our kitchen. The deck is just big enough for a gas grill and my planter with herbs and a hummingbird feeder. Perfect for our needs!

Yesterday I had fun at L’occitane, Since Donatella forgives I bought a small purse spray of Herbae.
On paper Herbae was awful but on skin it was very beautiful green fragrance.
She-ra mentioned fragrantica yesterday and I never go on there to read but looked up Herbae reviews and some said it reminded them of Hermes Un Jardin Sur la Toit, I have never smelled the that Jardin line so I can’t help with that, but that gives you an idea of the notes.

My main reason to visit was to try out one of the shampoo bars. We are going “glamping” for a few days this month and thought that this would be easier. What is really neat is the travel case for the shampoo bar (sold separately) when you open the case there is another case you can remove and use as a soap dish and has slits for the water drainage. I will report back if its any good!

Have fun glamping! I love Herbae, and like you, I didn’t care for it on paper but loved it on skin.
I enjoy so many L’occitane products, they have a wonderful catalog.

I love their soaps, I’ve used them for 30 years.
The 25% Shea Cream and 100% Shea Butter and hand cream is fantastic.

The Immortelle Skin oil is wonderful for winter-dry skin as is the Immortelle Face Mist.

I am loyal to my cheap caress soap but I do like there rose scented shea butter soap. It last for months!
I will look into the Immortelle skin care mist and oil, they gave me a sample of a night serum that is really nice. I trust your judgement after your recommendation of sunscreen that I love.

Eau de Cartier, which is a nice, light, dry fragrance for a hot summer day. It doesn’t last very long, though.

Just finished The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. Very sweet and charming. Highly recommend.

Wearing the last drops of my beloved Chanel 28 La Pausa EdT, one of my big favorite scents. As much as I love it, I will not replace my full bottle. Unfortunately, the EdP lacks something that made the EdT very special and magic to me.

Thank you all for your well wishes a couple of weeks ago. I am feeling better. I already started physical therapy, which hasn’t been easy and I will be back to work after Labor day. In the meantime, I am going out for short walks, engaging in light activities at home and resting.

YAY for getting better while wearing CHANEL!
It does seem some of the magic left the EdP building. It’s a bummer and REALLY hard not to compare. I wonder if the juices will settle into themselves better after a little oxygenation and age?

I have never understood the reasons for the change, if the EdTs were already fabulous. Unfortunately, the EdP never met my expectations, price included.
I am still waiting for Chanel to release a masterpiece, like the old and beloved perfumes, Coco, No.
19, 5, etc. But it seems like it will never happen again.

SOTD is Vilhelm Mango Skin, which is fruit juicy fun. Definitely a happy scent. I am curious about the new scent they just released. Must sit on evil perfume-purchasing fingers.

Trying to decide if today is a yardwork day, or a lazy day. I’ve been mostly lazy this week. I *should* do yardwork, but really… still feeling lazy.

No fun scent, it’s gray again today. I wore Mitsouko EdT on one wrist and EdT on the other. I like the EdT better.
Now I have chicken legs with zucchini and potatoes roasting in the oven, topped with Gorgonzola.

Right now I am re-sampling Bass Solo. I am pre-shower so and cooking with mom (yes and having a tiny amount of Boss Solo on my wrist while our chicken soup is already simmering).
Bass Solo when sampled for the first time was done so with all 4 being applied to different parts of my skin. I already knew Swan Princess and loved it but applied it next to the other 3 anyways. I found Bass Solo “too predictable” nice but not a wow. It reminded me of Angel’s Share, a perfume so anticipated by me and the one that disappointed me when I opened the bottle and gave it several tries. It just seemed so boring, like many other fragrances out there.
This time Bass Solo sampled by itself smells a lot different to me. It smells nothing like Angel’s Share. First of all it isn’t a gourmand and second of all it smells very woodsy. And a nice kick of spices. A tiny bit of soapy lavender (which is a great thing for me). Previously I called Bass Solo a unisex. This time around after giving it a good try I think it is somewhat unisex leaning a little bit towards masculine. But by all means I would happily wear it if I had a bottle.

I’m in Azemour today, watching the fog clear and hoping the mental fog will do likewise. And I continue to be marooned at home — turns out the new alternator that the mechanic put in last week was faulty and needs to be re-replaced, and now the shop is so busy that they think it’ll take all week to fix it. Have had to cancel all fieldwork, social events, and long-awaited doctor’s appointments and am just hoping the food I have on hand will hold out. Just trying to roll with it, but really missing all the physical activity and intellectual engagement that was supposed to help me keep from missing my son too much this week.

I am a fan of Hove Rue Royale, Camellia, Elan d’Orange and Honeysuckle. My husband will ask me if I am wearing a Hove scent sometimes while I am wearing them. I guess they all have similar DNA.

A lot of their scents hold up well in the heat, and it gets really hot down here in New Orleans.

    Hello all!

My SOTD is Jo Malone Jasmine Sambac and Marigold.

I’ve never been been impressed with and therefore mostly ignored Jo Malone, with the exception of Mimosa and Cardamom (which I like ok but very rarely wear), until I smelled this jasmine one on a friend a few months ago. I was inspired to buy a small bottle shortly after. It’s a soft, slightly vanillic and creamy white floral fragrance which I find comforting. I would say it fits the CP nicely.

I started the day in Caron Eau de Réglisse because I hadn’t worn it yet this summer, it’s a citrussy licorice and lasts surprisingly well but tonight I was in the mood for something richer and I chose Guerlain Souffle; as much as I like the intense I find this more versatile and reach for it more often. In all seasons.

Had to go to the office today ? so just now checking in. Wore 19 edt because that’s the vibe I wanted for my mid-year review. It worked. I wore an obscene amount because 1) people who are masked would barely smell it anyway and 2) people who aren’t masked would have to stay outside of its force field. That worked too. ?

Drank crappy bagged tea bc options were severely limited here. The only way I can deal with coming back to the office regularly now is if they let me have an electric kettle so that I can make proper tea here.

I love the image of the No 19 force field! Totally agree with you on decent tea.

Was it your first day back? I was discombobulated, not knowing what to expect. It ended up being “normal”.

Extraneous electrical devices were outlawed in our offices a while back. Of course if you use it and put it away, one can probably get away with using it. No extension cords though.

Not quite my first day back. I went in for about two weeks when I started this job in September, and then once in May to deal with some paperwork that had to be done at the office. I had to go back in again to do paperwork, so figured I’d take the opportunity to have a face to face for my review, but we sat outside so that we could meet maskless. In theory I will be in three days a week starting after Labor Day, but Delta may throw a wrench in that. I couldn’t believe how much stuff I had to tote with me – laptop, notepad, food for the day, travel mug, so much stuff!

I’m hoping if I get a kettle that has auto shutoff after X minutes they will let me have it. I had to give up my office plant collection (no live plants allowed in the building) so I’m hoping there is some leeway with other creature comforts. We shall see.

Ha ha — love the force field! Really, depending on how one applies one’s perfume, it can either say come-here-and-kiss-my-neck or danger-stay-back-six-feet.

My agency dropped its return-to-the-office plans in light of the Delta variant so we’re all home workers for the foreseeable future. Suits me just dandy!

    SotD = Eau de Guerlain

Today feels like a cologne day. EdG is a minty citrusy delicious cologne that always makes me happy.

That odd photo up top today is also making me smile.

I raided the perfume cupboard this morning for other cologne-ish scents. They are lined up on my desk for future spritzing — Guerlain’s Cologne du 68, Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat, Apres L’ondee EdT, also Eau des Merveilles and Paris-Riviera.

Summer-friendly scents as far as the nose can smell. :)

I love the color of the flower but thought it was a headless ballerina.

SOTD = Chanel Les Exclusifs Le Lion de Chanel

… because someone (MossyBerry?) mentioned it yesterday and apsara mentioned having Chanel on tap.

In other news, it’s kinda cr-ppy out … not raining, not super hot, very humid, threatening rain, so I am giving myself a pass from taking my walk.

Perfume friends, I got my bottle of Lancôme La Vie Est Belle Intensement yesterday! I’m glad I did because the person who gave me the generous sample was working and she got credit for the sale. I also got a GWP (which I will give away) and a $10 credit which I can use by September 2nd with no minimum purchase.

Yeah, it was “bleah” weather for me today, too. Only nice thing about was the temp, which was rather pleasant.

I wonder how many people are going to get LVEB Intensement in the near future? ?

Checking the notes and it seems like a winner. Lots of reviews both in the plus and minus. I love raspberry and vanilla (besides being my favorite cookie) so I may have to take a chance! I don’t think I want to chance it by going to my local mall yet.

Is there anything comparable that you’ve tried?

I think if you are close to the mall, you can dash in and out pretty quickly…just sayin’

As to comparison, not by how it smells but by how it feels, it’s a fuller version of Black Perfecto (the original) which is no slouch to begin with.

BBW Japanese Cherry Blossom again during and after a hot shower. Slept very poorly…got up around 2 am to read for about 30-45 minutes.

We had bad air yesterday from Canadian fires. Bothered my eyes and sinuses. Today seemed better but I was inside all day doing some chores and resting a sore back. The shower and the refreshing smell of the BBW scent perked me up nicely though. It’s quite delicious…clean, a bit sweet and fruity. Which doesn’t sound good on the face, but it is. I may need to do full size.

I like that one, too. I have the body spray and it has a nice presence. I’ve noticed our Plato’s Closet often has a bottle, along with many other B&BW scents; not that there are not good deals at the store, but Plato’s sells most body sprays for $3 or $4 and you don’t have to buy more that one.

I’m involved in an online conference this week and so far it has been plagued by technical difficulties. Fingers crossed that all goes smoothly tomorrow. (I am a participant but not at all involved in running it; I feel for the people who are.)

SOTD was Cristalle Eau Verte, many happy associations and also confidence-giving. Will probably try some Prada Infusion d’Iris before bed because it is so soft (the Cristalle did not last through my workout and shower).

Tech issues are the worst! We had one Town Hall where the 101st person and then on up were denied entry because someone forgot to set up the Zoom line to accept at least 1,500 so it was a big deal.

La Vierge De Fer by Serge Lutens. Yes, I know people pooh pooh it but it is so beautiful and joyous that it perfectly fits the early springlike weather we are having in Sydney. Just got back from walking the dogs and it was instant balm to being locked down hard here. The sunshine, greenery and fragrance all joined together to have me smiling happily behind my mandatory mask.
