Happy Hump Day and happy National Junk Food Day. (Birthdays today: Robin Williams, Ernest Hemingway, Cat Stevens). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing vintage Diorissimo for Season 3, Episode 11 of The Good Place, where the cast discovers that heaven smells like whatever makes you happiest.
Reminder: 7/23 will be Sitcom Friday...name a favorite sitcom, and wear a fragrance that reminds you of the show in general, or one of the characters.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Good morning all, my SOTD is vintage Estee by Estee Lauder. Crisp with loads of aldehydes.
Happy birthday to Robin Williams, one of my favorite actors. Years ago, when we lived in the outer Richmond district, Mr. SmokeyToes and I would frequently run into him. 🙂
And happy National Hot dog day! Rastelli’s butcher produces a hamburger shaped hot dog, to which Mr. SmokeyToes our household hot dog expert declares is “not” a hot dog.
But if you mould hamburger meat into a hot-dog shape, grill it, and serve it in a hot-dog bun, it is a hamburger or a hot dog?
Categories are made to be broken I think.
I agree! I’m always coloring outside the lines. 😉
My mom did that once or twice when I was little, and it was still a hamburger. ?
WOW! Was Robin Williams nice?
He was very warm and approachable.
Kevin met him years ago, before we started dating, and was impressed that Robin always remembered his name.
Hah! I still treasure the memory of running into Robin Williams as my roommate and I were struggling to carry home a Christmas tree in SF one year. He looked at us and laughed. All I could think was, “I made Robin Williams laugh!!”
Oh wow, what a great memory!
Yes, if I made Robin Williams laugh, I’d consider that an accomplishment!
I looked for and couldn’t find my Demeter Blue Hawaiian for a community wear a while back. This is how I know I have too much stuff. Anyway, I stumbled across it this morning, so I’m wearing it at long last, and it’s delightful: fresh, juicy, realistic pineapple boosted with orange (and, they say, rum, though I don’t get it — to me it’s just orange-pineapple). Discontinued, but I bet their Pineapple is just as nice.
I never smelled that one! Sounds like a useful layering agent.
My in laws flight got cancelled last night. Kids woke up asking for them and we explained.
Sotd Cartier Panthere , the only sample I grabbed at whole rushing out the door
Oh, what a bummer! I hope they get to your place soon! Looking forward to chai stories…. 🙂
Me too. I also have jury duty so we had to scramble last night to find care for the kids when you we realized they were not coming
I hope they can reschedule soon!! I feel for the kids what a bummer ?
Oh no. Are they coming later then?
Oh dear! Hope they can arrive soon. Need that vicarious chai.
I’m sorry to hear that! I hope they’re not stuck in an airport.
Aw, that stinks!
Work systems are down, woo hoo! It’s Vanira Moorea for me.
so lucky!
Like a snow day in summer!
Hooray! Adult snow day!
SOTD is Volutes, EDP.
You smell great apsara.
why thank you, Robin. I love this one.
Moschino Funny!, because the grapefruit-rose cuts through the (@*%#) humidity.
You have humidity and right now we have poor air quality, but I can still smell my SOTD ?
????????
Long time no see
Back atcha. ?
??
Good morning.
I was commando but reading what Robin said about what smell is the happiest, I went with Youth Dew, one of my absolute favourites.
Currently drinking Genmaicha.
So we are both in heaven! (Or really, if you watch the show, stuck outside proper heaven, in the mail room, IIRC)
You smell marvelous!
Things here were running pretty good until about an hour ago. My dogs have never bothered with anything on the coffee table before until today. My mother bought a new Kindle on Prime Day took it out of it’s package but today, one of them got a hold of it while I was in the bathroom and now the screen is cracked. The thing still turns on but I am not sure Amazon will do anything. It wasn’t ordered under my account and she didn’t set the thing up. I never had reason to think that they would mess with anything on the coffee table. The eldest dog started to chew up the box it came in. There looks like there might be a puncture in the corner of the screen. I just texted my dad and my folks are going to have to deal with that. Wearing no 5 edt.
Oh yikes.
OH NO!
So sorry Dawn!
Oh no!
Oh no….. So sorry about that Dawn!
So sorry – ick.
Oh wow, that stinks.
Total bummer.
Baklava from Pearlescent Parfums which is a new, offshoot line from Gallagher.
Very sweet fruity and nutty gourmand…reminds me quite a bit of Behold Patchouli which I already have..need to compare…lovely stuff.
Lot of honey too? Because that does sound tempting.
I don’t want to smell like Baklava, because then I’d try to eat my arm.
Now I want some pistachio baklava!
Good morning!
I’m wearing Dior’s Jasmin des Anges and feeling far more together than I actually look as a consequence.
Wanted to pass along this link from the Templeton Foundation about the scent of a meteorite that fell in Murchison Australia in 1969.

Thank you for the article 🙂
It’s also Charlotte Gainsbourg’s 50th birthday…so naturally I’m wearing Balenciaga Paris
How is Charlotte Gainsbourg 50??! I put on a little Cologne du 68 in her honour — for some reason it feels like one she’d like, though of course I’ve no idea.
I know right?
She looks stunning, just like her mother ☺️
For some reason I think Charlotte is a Guerlain girl -I imagine she would enjoy 68 and Mitsouko
Wow, time does march on, doesn’t it?
It sure does
Naturally as soon as I decide to get back to wearing perfume the migraine beast hits! Headache day 2, trying to power through as I have a huge backlog of work projects, and commando until I start feeling a bit better…
So sorry Isabella, that’s really rough! Hope it is better tomorrow.
Hope you can rest.
I hope you feel better soon.
Yuck. Fingers crossed you shake that migraine off ASAP.
Triple Distilled Jasmine by Santa Maria Novella
Talking about Bewitched the other day here and I went and did a little digging.
From Wikipedia
In 1964 episode “It Takes One to Know One” Darrin’s advertising firm is finding a model for a perfume called “Miss Jasmine”……
So jasmine it is tonight.
“Triple distilled” makes it sound desirable
HA! It’s like a jasmine soliflor extrait that you put on with a glass sword. Thick as oil.
Nice! Great backstory!
Thanks. It really is exquisite.
SotD = Tuberoza Extrait de Perfume over Japanese Cherry Blossom body lotion. These two go very well together. Watching Meghan Thee Stallion perform and having a blast. She can shake and twerk like noone!!
You get an enabler pin. I happened to be in a BBW and bought some little sizes of the Japanese Cherry Blossom. Spray, lotion and shower gel
Joining the Dior fans vintage Poison.
Ah, good stuff!
I’m enjoying some light sprays of my new Acqua di Parma Osmanthus.
Oooh. That sounds good. Is it?
Yes!
SOTD is Saturday. Sitcom-wise, I think this would be something Twyla from Schitt’s Creek would wear — bright and optimistic and fruity.
Well, we briefly got hopeful that we could join my family on Orcas Island in August, since Canada simplified entry (a bit), and opened the border to the vaccinated as of 9 August. But the U.S. dashed those hopes this morning by continuing the U.S. border closure until at least August 21. I mean, what do they have to fear? The fact that our vaccination levels are higher than theirs? Ugh.
Oh no, I am so sorry. Hope you can get that vacation worked out.
(And part of my task for this afternoon is to decide what to wear for the David Rose character tomorrow.)
Remember that Byredo that came in the outer-spacey bottle with the odd font? David Rose may have gravitated towards that!
I’m sorry to hear that. How frustrating!
Boo hiss on vacation setbacks! ??
I’m in Lubin Grisette, finally worn as it needs to be — sprayed rather than dabbed, and somewhat lavishly. The descriptor that comes most readily to mind is “sprightly”. Everything about it is light — light grapefruit, light powder, light musk, light incense, and hopefully a little later, some light woodiness. Very, very nice, especially in the mugginess we’re having here lately.
I much prefer spraying a fragrance over dabbing them! Whenever it isn’t outrageously priced, and I have the option, I prefer to sample from sprayer bottles. Otherwise, it’s common for me to pour the little 1mL into a sprayer so I can properly test it. When bottles come in dabber form, I ALWAYS decant some into a sprayer. I don’t understand why it matters, but it really changes the experience of the scents to me!
Go Team Grisette ?
Hey, thanks for recruiting me onto the team! 😀
The hot weather arrived last week finally, meaning 30C at most though, it’s London not the tropics.
I have to take a day off for some x-rays so I took tomorrow off, hope it will not be crazy busy at the hospital but I’ll take my book with me.
Spent the day in vintage Jardins de Bagatelle EDP which bloomed in the heat but am now in Weil Suki Essence, my best sweet incense, my only one in fact.
You smell wonderful x2. Suki Essence is such a polite and quiet and delightful scent. Too bad it did not get out to a larger audience.
Thank you so much, totally agree about Suki, it’s a little confidential gem which deserves more attention.
Been missing you Aurora. Glad to see you, hope tomorrow goes well!
Thank you Lillyjo! It was just a blip not posting because less practical with a bad wrist, and thank you for the ood wishes for tomorrow.
Good to see you posting! Glad that you are getting a taste of summer finally. Hope that your X-ray appointment goes well tomorrow. ???
Thank you Jalapeno. It was a long day at the hospital but I expected that. Gorgeous weather 27C and a breeze.
I hope your x-rays go well!
Thank you Sistine!
4711 Acqua di Colonia White Peach & Coriander from a past freebiemeet. Love a nice peach note.
Busy day yesterday. Went down to the “city” – visited our favorite, excellent taco place, got the 2nd hole in my left ear re-pierced because it closed up years ago. Had a beer at a lovely roof top brewery. And tasted an aptly and hilariously named ice cream. “Exhausted Parent”. Obviously coffee flavored, but it also included a splash of bourbon and chocolate pieces. Oh, and the Roof Tap Bar advertised weekly yoga for $15. Beer included. ???
LOL, beer and yoga. Burp, excuse me.
Oof, yoga and beer? I’d avoid twisting poses and opt for corpse pose instead!
As I have seen yoga and MJ…this seems like a more tame alternative!
Both sound pleasanter than yoga with goats, which is apparently a thing around here…
I really want to do yoga with goats! But it will definitely end up with me just cuddling the goats and abandoning the yoga.
It cracks me up to try and imagine how the goats might be involved. I can only imagine there’s lots of ill-timed head-butting while one is trying to do downward-facing dog…
That ice cream sounds great!
2nd that! I want some!
Omg, I just had a scoop of that ice cream last week! Lol. It is tasty!
Joining the line of people who want a scoop of that ice cream!
When I ran the Twin Cities marathon there were non-sanctioned stations set up where runners could get Bloody Marys or beer. About 22 miles into the race. And some runners were taking them.
They must have been way better runners than me. Or else they 2 didn’t care about finishing the last 4 miles.
That ice cream does sound amazing!
Yoga AND beer? Sounds like that class would be full!
Sotd is BDK Tubéreuse Impérial as I continue to smell through my BDK samples. This one seems perfect for Julia Louis-Dreyfus aka Selina Meyer in Veep. She makes an impression when she walks into a room, everyone knows she’s there and who’s the boss.
I need to give that show another shot. I don’t know why it didn’t grab me…I love politics, I love JLD.
The 7% Solution– nice easy to wear scent for work. My stepdaughter and in-laws arrive today sometime while I’m at work. My husband’s daughter will stay with us while his parents will stay at a nearby hotel. My husband is disappointed that she doesn’t seem to be interested in going to the nearby amusement park/water park and is rather more interested in going to the mall. At least we’re all doing an escape room on Friday…
Well I hope it is a fun visit, even if she has grown out of the water park and into the mall!
I hope you have a wonderful visit!
Hello all!
1) SOTD is Sunshine Mimosa – shower gel & perfume spray. It’s a bit cooler today – high of 79F (26c) but very sunny with big pretty clouds. In this weather, SM does not burn off as readily and on me smells like a stripped down LVeB.
2) Today will be shifting the remnants of the kitchen project to the garage, and getting them prepared for returning to IKEA. I am left with a LOT of remainders, which is nice while in the project so that you know you will not run out of anything, but the hassle of returning is OOOF.
Also- will be doing the sofa slipcovers laundry- trying to decide with to tackle all in the washer machine here or take to the laundromat, which have bigger machines.
Why so many extras? Did they send you duplicates or did you overorder some things in case they were needed, or ???
I think IKEA sends dupes of certain things, just in case. In my particular case, there is a massive decorative panel that I don’t want to mess with ( I was going to enclose the fridge, to make it look custom and built in- but I have changed my mind on that, since the fridge is plumbed and in case of any mishaps I want the ability to move the fridge to be there) and there are a LOT of extra hinges, pulls, and shelving that should go back.
Robin, you smell wonderful. No CP tie in today, just saw and grabbed Jasmin Angelique from the Swap Meet. Colognes and most citrus/fresh scents are my least favorite style of perfume to wear and they just go flat on me. But JA is doing all kinds of change ups amid the angelique and lemon-pepper notes and I am enjoying it. Like other Ateliers I’ve tried, it has great lasting power, even withstanding some outdoor work on a warm and humid day! Angelique, vetiver and tonka are notes that mostly keep even me from blind buys. But this angelique works for me. BTW, it very much has some ash tray accord, but that note tends to work for me and I think it’s coming from the galbanum, another favorite note. I did look up the notes on Fragrantica. Have a good day, all!
So glad you found a cologne you could wear and like!
Hey, we’re house twins today!
SOTM is a heavy dab of Vilhelm Dear Polly, from my Luckyscent samples. So far, I’m getting fruit and heavily smoked tea.
Oh, I don’t think I ever tried that one and sounds like I should. You like?
You should. I think it’s really good.
Per my comment above, I think I need to give it a spray before I decide. I usually really like tea scents, but the smokiness is feeling a bit too much for me at this sampling. Maybe the other notes bloom and balance it out better when sprayed?
Smoky tea & fruit actually sounds pretty good to me.
Still in Pineward’s Steading from last night. This one has staying power! Smells like standing next to a maple tree with a honeybee hive, while the sap is running. Honey and maple sugar candy (though not so much maple syrup). Freshly chopped wood. Sweet tobacco. I get some hay, but I don’t get hops or pine notes the brand mentions -maple leaf is the only green note I’m getting. I’ve been very impressed with the discovery set so far.
This would be a good scent for Ed from Northern Exposure, outdoorsy and meditative, but also sweet.
Drinking chocolate puer to get me through So! Many! Calls! No one wants to email today, everyone wants to have a call.
Oh, I loved Northern Exposure! Also loved the very short-lived Men In Trees, which had a similar vibe.
I adored that show.
That fragrance sounds dreamy! There’s a mysterious 1/2 block in our town that always smells like maple syrup and pancakes, year round, and we can’t figure out what it is. My best guess is that it’s the scent of some beehives in one of the yards, but I’ve never gotten close enough to a honeybee hive to take a proper whiff.
NYC had mystery maple syrup smells and it was A THING! The Gothamist (R.I.P.) did some great reporting about it: https://gothamist.com/news/happy-10-year-anniversary-of-nyc-finding-the-alleged-source-of-the-mysterious-maple-syrup-smell
OMG, forgot all about that.
https://nstperfume.com/2009/02/05/its-always-new-jersey/
Loved Northern Exposure!
It’s noon here and I can barely keep my eyes open despite sleeping long and deeply last night. I might take a nap. SOTD is Twilly.
Hope you got that nap foxbins!
Ormond Jayne Woman for me today, our dull and dreary weather continues.
Sotd is No.5 L’eau for Louise Jefferson (since I don’t have the original) the rest of the cast
George Jefferson- Egoiste
Tom Willis- Aramis
Helen Willis- Rive Gauche
Florence- Youth Dew bath oil
Mr. Bentley- something Penhalligon.
LOL at Egoiste + George Jefferson! ???
Some wild weather here earlier this afternoon. The thunder, lightning and heavy rain is gone for now. Maybe there’s more in store, maybe not. But the air outside is smelling MUCH better! ⚡☔
SOTD = back in Love Osmanthus again today. Thinking of a travel spray of this one, perhaps. If it happens, Lisa D gets an enabler pin for it.
I got out late last night, and I swear the air had a hint of Fall in it.
I took a quick peek last night at the moon, since the weather folks said that it would be colored due to all the smoke particles in the air. It was bright orange! No hint of fall here yet, thankfully. Not ready for that.
A bit of box of eels and Lauren Original in the red bottle..jasmine and labdanum combo:) lol
I did some testing today so I have Le Labo’s Fleur d’Oranger on my left wrist and L’Ombre des Merveilles on my right. The Le Labo is pretty great.
The Hermes? Loved the top notes. But it’s very quickly turned into the scent of a Lush store, which isn’t what I was expecting nor wanting.
First SOTD was Juniper Sling, second was La Colle Noire.
Very late to the party in vintage Diorella. ? I’m constantly amazed by how comforting and uplifting perfume can be in dark times.
