Tuesday scent of the day 7/13

Posted by Robin on 13 July 2021 233 Comments

It's Tuesday and French Fries Day. A very happy 81st birthday to Sir Patrick Stewart! What fragrance are you wearing?

I spent much of yesterday in bed, and am feeling great today. I'm in a tiny, weather-appropriate dab of Andrea Maack Coal, but I'm guessing I'll be in something light and citrus-y before the day is out. (Providence Perfume Co Tangerine Thyme is queued up on my desk.)

Reminder: 7/16 will be Nordic Friday...wear a fragrance inspired by, or made by a brand from, one of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Royal Copenhagen Mega Rose teapot ("In an inspired collaboration between Blue Fluted Mega-designer, Karen Kjældgård-Larsen, and visual artist, Mette Hannemann, the limited-edition collection Mega Rose pays tribute to Blue Fluted Mega in airbrushed hues and blooming roses") appears to be sold out in the US. You can find it at Magasin in Denmark for 1.399 kr.

Tea today is Rose Himalaya from Mariage Freres. My oldest sniffed my tea tins this morning and said this was her favorite of the bunch.

    Ortigia Sicilia : Ambra Nera
Notes: spice wood, labdanum, oak musk, galbanum and amber resin
    Beautiful!

Have this in the candle format, and will break it out come winter. Once it’s gone I’ll still be keeping the glass jar *and* the box. Alas that I will never have the matching caftan, or caftan lifestyle…

Ortigia, I adore their bath oils! I just used Geranium last night. I really should explore their perfumes. And the bath oil bottles are lovely too, heavy and nice designs.
SOTD is a spray of Vanilla Banana, it’s a hot day.

Have told this before: researching whether I could get more Ambra Nera shampoo based on a sample encountered whilst traveling caused my fall down the rabbit hole. I do have the perfume now and it is spicy amber wonderfulness. Joining you with Ambra Nera as SotD.

Today it’s a sample of Penhaligon’s Endymion, a fairly standard lavender fougère. Unobjectionable, that’s all I have to say about it.

From IG – “MrCologne” code gets you the bottle plus 2 7.5mL travel sprays (Bohemian Lime and Pacific Rock Moss) good until July 17.

I don’t always agree with him but some codes are quite good and this was the first one I’ve seen.

I’m in the very lovely L de Lubin this morning – many thanks to Vee who included it in our recent swap along with a couple of other Lubins that I’ve also fallen for. L reminds me a bit of 24 Faubourg, but it’s lighter and possibly a bit more floral. In any case, it’s wonderful!

I should be more excited about the Nordic week especially since normally it is right up my alley. I love winters, chimneys covered in snow, I love Christmas, I love deep scandinavian woods… By the way is anyone else on here a fan of Moomin? I have a collection of Moomin stuff (of course) including Demeter colognes and solids with Moomin. I gotta get ’em out.

SotD = B & BW Japanese Cherry Blossom. Surrounded by a ohhh so gorgeous veil of this beautiful fragrance thanks to the most lovely PL67!! ???.
I am in both lotion and the perfume, Japanese Cherry Blossom has been my favorite of the line since it first came out in 00’s. Very special to me.

I still feel like I should jump right on the wagon of the nordic week… I have a yellow Moomin Demeter in citrus but I am well “saving it” since You can’t get them anywhere anymore… I used up all the other ones!! I thought I still had a few drops of Moomin Finnish Winter or Norwegian Wood or whatever it was called but the bottles are completely empty… I remember I was going to save them too but liked wearing them too much…

Glad you were able to stave off the cold, Robin. I’m wearing Messe de Minuit, thanks to a lovely NSTer. I had wanted to try this for many years. While I’m not sure of the age of my sample, I’m guessing it may be the last of the reformulations of MdM. I read it as orange spiced tea with honey. If I squint hard, I can see a bit of incense and cathedral, but I certainly don’t get the heady atmospherics that the 1994 version seemed to have evoked in people. Oh well, maybe I’m just too prosaic… ?? Be well, everyone!

Trying Korres Morning Mimosa which is a lovely fruitchouli…Top notes are Mimosa, Pink Pepper, Grapefruit and Pineapple; middle notes are Ylang-Ylang, Rose and Jasmine; base notes are Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Musk and Patchouli.

I blind bought 4 from this line from SkinCareRx (no affiliation) as they have them for less than retail ($38 for 50 ml vs. $48 on Korres’ site) and then had a 25% off code for the 4th….so $28.50 a pop….that’s good cheap fun, folks.

I had been eyeing Midnight Dahlia (based on a best new and affordable article on Fragrantica) for a while and tried that one yesterday…a fruity patchouli w/ amber…also very nice. The pyramid notes listed on the bottles are quite accurate for the two I have tried. I bought Cashmere Kumquat and Vanilla Freesia too.

I realized many of my vanillas were more fall/winter so I have had to branch out into spring/summer vanillas to appease the Goddess Vanilla. ;)

Hi there!!!! I am still alive. ?
Project/job absorbed most of my energy and time.
What was left of time and energy I spent on horse riding, some running and painting (watercolour). And watching a lot of tv (streaming services)

Perfume (and everything else) took a backseat ?

But just this weekend I decided to order a few samples.
…and i hopelessly fell in love with Spell 125. ?

I hope everyone is doing fine!!!!
    I miss you guys.

I will try to visit NST more often again, but…its still hectic , also because social life is rebooting again now lots of folks get vaccinated around me and restaurants are open again…

Thanks. She is hanging in there now that most of the shock has worn off. It helps that two of my siblings live nearby (my sister is staying with her temporarily) so she has family with her. She sent pics of the sunset at the beach they used to enjoy since they both retired… hence my choice of Beachwalk probably for the next little while.

“Shopping” in my box of packed scents and stumbled upon Narciso white cube. Had to go for it. So beautiful.

Watched the crew working in the next door duplex this morning. Fascinating how they move earth so efficiently. They’re filling in the sides of the foundation and packing gravel in what will be the crawl space. Luckily, we’ve been walking up early…they started work at 7 am. But I’m happy to see the big mounds of dirt be diminished.

Finally baked my rustic peach tart. Peaches can be so finicky. The first one I cut into seemed to not be ripe or ripening oddly. Still rock hard on inside but soft on outside. Second was same, but the third peach and the rest were at perfect ripeness. This seems to be the way of peaches…they can be a crapshoot.

Totally agree with you on the dice roll of how tasty or not peaches can be. When they are good, they are wonderful. But when they are bad, they are horrible. ?

I believe there is a Seinfeld about fruit being a crapshoot too. Just bought some hard nectarines and wondered if they would ripen…occasionally they don’t :( but within about a day they are soft, juicy and delightful…the mysteries of stone fruits. ;)

Drives me nuts when grocers don’t make brown paper bags available for peaches…helps them ripen much better.

Went for Agent Provocateur today, because cool and rainy again. Nearly all our tomatoes in our garden got brown rot, because of the extremely wet weather. My poor boyfriend worked so hard with nursing the plants etc and now we have to throw them all out.

That teapot is gorgeous, Robin. I’m glad you were able to avoid the cold, and I hope your husband is feeling better.

ToTM was Numi Aged Earl Grey + Bengal Spice. I’ll be drinking a cup of Cultured Cup Snow Peach white tea pretty soon. An almond butter Rice Krispie bar will go with it. I made a double batch so I can take some to my sister’s house tomorrow. I’m in a book club that meets in her general vicinity, so will be staying overnight. The following day I’ll be having lunch and a sniffa with Calypso! ?

I’m in Byredo Sunday Cologne today with a little La Tulipe on my shoulder. Both have faded, so it’s time to try something else. Have a good day, all!

Posting a little early today since my schedule is all scrambled.

Commando. I had an emergency dentist appointment this morning because I chipped a tooth late last week. I noticed it Friday evening. My dentist doesn’t have weekend appointments, but I wasn’t in any pain. It turns out the chip was small and didn’t crack the tooth. All I needed was for the rough edges to be smoothed down. I got lucky, in a way.

Also, there was more bad news yesterday about my Mom. The situation is still evolving, but it looks like I will be back on an airplane to help my brother out again. I don’t know if she will survive the rest of this year.

So not the best day for me to wear perfume.

I started the morning testing two Kierin NYC samples: Left wrist: 10am Flirt, which is a gorgeous gardenia-fig-sandalwood that I could not stop sniffing. Right wrist: Nitro Noir, which to my nose was a red berry (lingonberry or maybe red currants) with patchouli; apparently others get a lot of iris, but either I got none, or I need to work on identifying non-powdery iris. I liked both, and I have a feeling I’ll take advantage of the discovery set discount to get a FB of 10am Flirt.

Post shower I am in Sonoma Scent Studio’s Forest Walk, thanks to SheriG’s efforts to help me find my HG forest scent. To me FW is a photorealistic deciduous forest, in the late fall a few days after a heavy rainfall; the petrichor is gone, but the leaves on the ground and the earth beneath them are still damp, and there are thick streams of sticky amber sap clinging to the tree trunks. So amber, wood, earth, and decaying leaves (but in a good way). My HG will have less amber and more cypress or juniper greenery, but wow does SoScSt deliver on what they promise with the name here.

    Drinking darjeeling today.

As of now, 8 have advanced to the next round (When this mythical next round will take place and how many contenders I will allow is yet to be determined, but as long as I’m still having fun I’ll keep round one going). In no particular order:
        -CdG Hinoki
        -CdG Yoyogi
        -CdG Zagorsk
        -CdG Avignon
        -Pineward Bindebole
        -Pineward Mirkwood
-Regime des Fleurs Falling Trees (which kicked off this search)

If I had to choose, I’d say Bindebole is in the lead, and I haven’t tried it yet, but I think layering Bindebole with Hinoki and Zagorsk would probably get extremely close to what I’m searching for. ???

Wore Sketch (Maison Violet) this morning, but the tuberose was very prominent on me and I washed it off. I don’t think I want tuberose in my ambery scent, but if you’re a fan of tuberose, this is quite nice and different. I might copy FearsMice and spritz on some Messe de Minuit soon.

I just got my bottle of Sketch. Still in the package but I intend to wear it next week.

I hope the weather will cool a bit for you to wear Sketch! It doesn’t strike me as a warm weather scent.

The first couple of times I wore it, the tuberose didn’t really stand out, but it has the last two times. It seems unusual to find tuberose in a warm, amber type scent.

In other news, a friend of mine passed away on Sunday morning, 3 days after surgery for a blood clot. I am garnering courage to call his widow to express my condolences. He had been planning for retirement since our 30s and it is sad that he cannot enjoy the fruits of his labor. 3 kids, with the youngest having finished Ivy League college on a full scholarship. They live in Texas (not the 2 older boys) and the memorial service will likely be in NJ next week. Gone too soon.

    SotD = Bogue MEM

MEM is both odd and sublimely comforting. Lavender works wonders for me. I really should get a FB before it disappears. It’s always the good ones that get away. But the price and the consumer guilt (!) hold me back. That’s a good thing, I guess.

LOVE the teapot up top today. My Danish grandmother’s china was one of the blue and white floral patterns from Royal Copenhagen. That teapot could kickstart my collecting tendencies were I to see it in a shop. Funny thing is that the teapot is about the same price as a bottle of MEM.

    You smell lovely, NSTers! :D

exactly that! :D I have four blue and white “Blue Nordic” dinner plates I saved when my grandparents’ home was being sold. None of them match exactly, each is from a different decade, but they look great together and mixed with my white IKEA dinnerware.

I generous dose of Cashmere Mist this morning. Not that popular but sometimes it’s just easy and nice! It’s really stuck in there throughout the day but that may be because I used about 10 sprays haha.

Unintentionally CP compliant in Vilhelm Mango Skin, from a sample. Meh. This sample’s getting thrown into the “bath bowl” to scent some future soak. Fruit. Flowers. Nothing to really offend or keep my interest.

Spent the morning dealing with “customer service” that was neither customer nor service oriented. Finally managed to resolve my issue, went for a walk to calm down, and now I’m scented in Bombay Bling. BB never fails to cheer me up. Also, finished Andy Weir’s latest. Some similarities with The Martian and much, much better than his 2nd book.

Day 2 of Agonist for the CP with The Infidels. Amber, rose, spice, patchouli. Bourbon vanilla is also listed–maybe. Sweet but also dark after around five-six hours. Not my top choice from this line, but definitely acceptable. Our weather is overcast, rainy, with thunderstorms, but not very hot today. This is a good choice.

Sotd was Bvlgari Aqua Divina, from a generous Nster. I think it’s too soft for the humidity here. I went well over 8 sprays and my skin just ate it up quickly. It was nice while it lasted though. I chipped a tooth today. Thank goodness there is no pain, and it gives me a reason to continue wearing my mask! I think I am the last person in the city to do so.

If you makes you feel any better lillyjo, I am starting to feel like the last person in NJ wearing a mask. I am debating trying to find one that says “Vaxxed & Masked” on it bc I’m worried ppl think my mask means I’m not vaxxed, when in fact I am just terrified of covid. ?
