It's Hump Day and World Chocolate Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am copying pyramus on Monday, with Guerlain Anisia Bella for Tiger Tail ice cream, an orange and licorice combo that I'd never heard of, and which apparently is a love-it-or-hate-it flavor (and rather hard to find outside of Canada, although I see that it does pop up in the US here and there). I love licorice: I'm game.
Reminder: on 7/9 we're honoring Ice Cream month. Tell us your favorite flavor, share a recipe if you like, and wear any perfume that you think fits the project.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Tiger Tail ice cream is from Virtuous Pie Portland at Facebook.
You smell fabulous, Robin!! I also love licorice and Anisia Bella.
Wearing Guerlain AA Pamplelune for another hot and humid day.
On my second cup of iced coffee.
Happy Wednesday! ?
Also on my second glass. Haven’t hopped into the shower yet, so still perfume free.
Coffee twins! I am sure you will smell great later!
Pamplelune in the heat! Heaven.
Agree!
You smell great, GO GO GUERLAIN ?
Thank you! ?
You smell fantastic! AA Pampleune is marvelous in the heat.
Thank you, ST! Pamplelune is one of my favorite summer scents. Love it!
You smell great! Love Pamplelune too.
Thank you, She-ra! ?
Excellent perfume pick for today! SO gross outside! ??
Thank you, Jalapeno! You can barely breathe outside ?. Hopefully, the rest of the week will be better.
Licorice ice cream week continues and I’m wearing SL Un Bois Vanille: the licorice is only a grace note but it’s there alongside coconut and bitter almond. The whole scent is a grown-up but comforting vanilla ice cream, the most accessible scent Lutens ever made, I think.
You smell wonderful – it used to be my signature scent when I had one.
I agree with you on the accessibility. I think it is the best of accessible SL scents, though – there have been quite a few ”easy” (bool-ring) ones which lack the intrigue factor UBV possesses.
Apologies for typo, tried to type boo-ring?
But I love “bool-ring”!
I liked it too.
I’m midway through a week of wearing only original Lalique EdT (femme). It’s a fruity floral so though ice cream is the game I’m wearing a close companion, gelato.
Full points, I say!
Thanks AnnieA.
You smell great! Gelato counts!
Hiya PL67,
Thanks. X
Another Rivières de Cartier – Luxuriance today. It smelled lovely when first sprayed, nice for the first three hours and then just ok. Good for the hot humid weather, although it does not remind me of any ice cream
Workday is done, off to sew some kaftans for the upcoming holiday…and do caffeine overdose so I can stay awake for the soccer later on.
You are making your own kaftans, how cool! I really wish I’d learned to sew.
I’m wearing an Armani Prive scent – Pivoine Suzhou. I can smell the raspberry.
Raspberry gelato it is, then!
Parle Moi Milky Musk sample today. This is a soft sandalwood musk that has really grown on me and very attractive if you like under the radar fragrances.
Also PSA that Beautyhabit has 20% off most fragrances until midnight on Sunday, July 11 with code: FRAGRANCE20.
Wanted to share my ice cream recipes as I will not be able to post on Friday. I make these in an ice cream maker, but you could probably use a no churn technique as well.
Earl Grey Ice Cream (which I posted yesterday):
https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/earl-grey-ice-cream/
Brown Sugar Ice Cream:
https://www.baking-sense.com/2018/07/09/brown-sugar-ice-cream/
And our latest favorite – a version of Stracciatella:
Use the above recipe and grate or finely chop a chunk of your favorite chocolate bar and stir in once the custard is chilled and before freezing. Awesome!
wow! Thanks for the links
So welcome! It’s all delicious!
Ohhhhh, brown sugar ice cream! Nom Noms…. Thank you for sharing! What do you like to serve with it? Topped with caramel? Sandwiched between Stroopwaffle cookies?
I might have a sugar addiction….
A lot of times we just have some type of homemade cookies around to eat with it (I, too, might have a bit of a connection with sugar–or at least with baking.) And we often sprinkle some berries on top. Brown sugar ice cream is my favorite with everything! But in our defense, we stretch it out and don’t eat a lot at once.
Brown sugar fudge (penuche) is my favorite outside of classic chocolate fudge with walnuts. Haven’t had it as ice cream, but sounds good to me!
In Prada Infusion d’iris not to be confused with
Les Infusions Iris which is different I think. Though I have never smelled the ladder. Someone else can chime in if there is a difference.
In Prada today for the Italy Eurocup soccer win yesterday. I told the kids “if Italy wins I will make pasta for dinner” So it was a win win for everyone.
Yes, there are differences – I find Infusion d’Iris Eau de Parfum Absolue…more profound, if that makes sense. I had dismissed Prada Infusion d’Iris and wouldn’t have even sniffed the Absolue if a perfume pal hadn’t urged me to try. Am now on my second bottle, or possibly third.
wow! Didn’t know about this version!!!
Wow, that’s a great advertisement for Prada Infusion d’Iris. I might seek out a bottle.
Forgot-todays sipOTD is a lavender latte made at home. I cut some lavender from my “balcony garden” boiled it to a sugar syrup and added it to my latte. Cheaper than the one they make at Maman cafe here in the city
That sounds like a delicious latte!
Making me jelly of your lavender latte again! I need to grind some lavender sugar tomorrow and get on it!
I loathe licorice, so Tiger Tail ice cream does not appeal at all.
I’m in Philosykos today, and thinking fresh figs might make interesting ice cream. I dislike dried figs, but can eat fresh ones. Maybe in an ice cream sweetened with honey rather than sugar?
Fig ice cream is good, and I bet sweetening it with honey instead of sugar would be delicious
It should be a goat milk ice cream
You smell good.
yuuuuummmmmm
Yeeeeeessssssssssssss!
Yes to that!
SOTM is SL L’orpheline because it smells cold on yet another hot humid day. To me it is like cold, wet incense, which seems like a contradiction, but it is like incense lingering in a large stone cathedral with water dripping down the walls. Not musty or mildewy, but wet-minerally. I’m sure it is the power of suggestion, but I do understanding the cold, empty feeling others say they get from it. I find it really intriguing and keep smelling my arm. The dry down is a strong musk and whatever fragrance molecule it is, it must be the same one they use in Mitchum’s Mens’ “Unscented” deodorant.
I agree 100% with your impressions and descriptions of L’Orpheline. It’s very unusual. I love it, and must wear it soon in our hot weather.
If I had unlimited access to a time machine, I would use it to go back to college and find those insufferable guys who claimed to be soooo into Nietzsche (but were definitely just trying to seem deep) and yell “You want nihilism? Here you go!” while spraying them with a cloud of L’orpheline.
(I *may* have dated one of those guys in college….)
Have you tried Messe d’Minuit? I get a bit of the incense plus cold stone vibe from that one. Never tried the L’orpheline. Serge Lutens went on a perfume release bender a few years back and I just couldn’t keep up.
SOTM is Lubin Grisette, thanks to an impromptu swap with a fellow NSTer. It’s quite lovely and true to the description on the LuckyScent website (where, SOMEhow, a bottle has been added to my shopping cart). Our swap was multi-tentacled, however, so I have a lot more to try before hauling the credit card out from under the mattress, where it’s cowering in fear.
Oh, yay! Grisette is so pretty!
It really is. I need to do a slightly heavier application to get the “real” feel of it, but I’m guessing that bottle will stay in my LS cart. ?
Morning.
Tiger tail sounds fun! I haven’t heard of it but I am also game. I wonder if the orange ice cream is a realistic orange or more soda pop. Hmm.
Wearing Miss Dior Originale. I find the green-ness cooling. I am still contemplating on buying the parfum extrait. It does smell amazing.
You smell great!
Need to go back and catch up on past days’ comments.
We’ve gone from a hot and humid 4th weekend to rainy coolness here. And, yes, we have the fireplace going just to cozy the place up.
I’ve added Kiss Me Intense for added coziness. Considering a BUB of this during the Beautyhabit sale. On warmer days, I like to mix it with Elie Saab L’Eau Couture, which is a sweeter almond blossom scent (very sweet). The combo of sweet and bitter almond blends nicely.
Wow, cannot imagine using a fireplace right now, or wearing Kiss Me Intense! Enjoy the cozy.
Spent some time in no 22 edt this morning and now in Estee Lauder Pleasures. I hope that the storms that we are supposed to get cool things off a little bit.
I need to dig out my mini of Pleasures. I used to dismiss Pleasures outright because how could it be as good as any classic Lauder? But when I actually wore it, it was so nice. I moved on after that first test because So. Many. Bottles.
Synchronicity happened this morning. Last night I thought ahead to wear a perfume with a banana note using Jeni’s Brandied Banana Brûlée ice cream as inspiration. I was thinking of Vanille Galante. Then in checking emails early this morning, I saw an eBay alert for a bottle of discontinued Penhaligon’s Amaranthine just listed for sale.
I’ve been waiting for this to pop up for a few years. There were actually 4 bottles, so I had some time to select this as my SOTD to ensure I really wanted to buy it, and I did. So it’ll soon be on its way to me! There’s still one more bottle available if anyone else has been holding out hope for it.
And it does smell like green bananas from the ylang ylang and some green notes, so I still got my ice cream pairing. ?
Amaranthine is one of those I wish I’d grabbed when I could. It’s probably already gone from ebay, though– those things tend to go fast.
Lucky you! Amaranthine is a beauty!
Hi all, my SOTD (and another from the sample bin) is Coty’s Chypre. Stunning. Starts out with a blast of oakmoss and initially reminds me of Magie Noir with less galbanum. The dry down is sweet, powdery, and similar to Youth Dew Bath oil.
I’m on my second espresso and heading to the gym in a moment.
Happy hump day!
Ooh that sounds so good!
Chypre sounds really lovely. I love oakmoss and the Youth Dew dry down? I am so there.
You smell superb, I treasure my 15ml bottle.
Wow. That sounds Ah-may-zing.
I forgot perfume this morning, and may have a little spray of Lolita Lempicka for the licorice, yum! ?
Then we will be cousins!
In Acquasala from Gabriella Chieffo today
Scent: P d’E Osmanthus Interdite on this hot, humid, and currently cloudy day. OI is fading fast.
Tea: Upton Lemon Drop
Got out and walked this morning, but petered out in the humidity and heat (89 when I returned to the house).
I have petered out entirely…heat is really getting to me today! You did smell great this morning.
DSH Marzipan today for the comfort factor. Not a licorice fan, although I do like Lolita Lempicka.
Caught your sympathy yesterday for my using up the last dregs of my Dilettante decant. Ver much appreciated it. I very very rarely regret not buying something, but Dilettante is a big regret!
Having a Nicolai day. Tried to ummph up Angelys Pear with some Neroli Intense. I just feel like I smell like pretty shampoo.
My space heater is again puffing away at my feet this cold morning. It was so cold, that at about 6 AM our central heating kicked on. I shut that down–ridiculous in the middle of the summer. But I wish I understood how the Northwest could be suffering so badly from heatwaves, and yet the Bay Area remains so cool. Usually my uninsulated office is a furnace at this time of year.
Bay Area weather prefers to be somewhat mysterious. My sister in Stockton is heading into the usual heat wave….
*cries in Portland*
We have overcast weather today- such a lovey break from the cruelly high temps!
It really is a relief!
It feels so good- perfect gray skies, just need some rain now!
Spoken like a true Oregonian!
My least favorite thing about living in SF was how it almost never got over 65 degrees. I don’t even begin to feel warm and alive until at least 75, so I was always miserable. (Except for February.) And I lived in the Mission, a relatively warm and sunny microclimate. Partner is back there this week visiting, and I’m embracing the 90-something degree weather in NY.
Never going above 65 degrees is my dream climate. If only my family and life were not so entrenched on the east coast…
Meanwhile, my A/C is getting quite the workout. I don’t think it ever shut off once during the night last night. I’d love to send some hot & humid weather your way!
We always just called that ice cream tiger rather than tiger tail. It’s a favorite of mine, but you do have to like licorice to enjoy it. Today I’m wearing Vert Pivione, which isn’t very ice cream like, but I have plans for Friday.
And I think Nestle calls theirs Tiger Tiger? And from looking at pictures, looks like there are widely different ideas of how much licorice should be in the mix.
What an odd flavor combo! Hmm.. not sure on that one.
I’ve been on a strawberry ice cream bender as of late. From mochi ice cream to classic Häagen-Dazs to some newer brands out there, oh! and Italian Ice too.
SOTD: Marni EDP
Strawberry Haagen Dazs was a favorite of mine back in the day. ??
Strawberry is an excellent flavor ice cream.
Trying Pacifica Dream Moon today which is considered a dupe of BR 540 by many and I would agree to a point…a bit lighter/more airy and floral.
My sister had her 2nd round of chemo yesterday…was worried it might be worse than first but seems on par w/ side effects so far. She also gained a few pounds in the last couple weeks which is good news.
Thinking of your sister and you, weight gain is a good sign.
All the best for your sister!! This disease sucks so much.
Yay for a bit of good news re: your sister!
Glad your sister is tolerating the chemo well!
Continued good wishes for your sister!
I like fennel, and I like orange, and I like them TOGETHER in a salad….but not so sure as an ice cream….
SOTD: Brazilian Lime by Beauty Pie.
Overcast morning with a high of 80F(27c) – now that’s more like it! a long bike ride is called for today- I have not done one in a couple weeks due to crazy heat and the work in the kitchen!
Interview 1 went well. Not as much money with this job BUT unlimited PTO, subsidized gym membership & travel & health insurance more than makes up for it! We will see.
Hope your job change goes well – salary/wages and accompanying benefits are a challenge to parse out.
They are a challenge! You have to figure out what is important amongst what is AVAILABLE.
I should publish my little matrix although you do need to be considering several jobs and you can of course use this prior to an interview to even decide to go on one.
Create a spreadsheet with your list of priorities (e.g. Pay, Commute Time, Benefits (you can list days off separately), stepping stone, etc.). Across the top, list the different jobs. For each row, allocate x number of points (out of 100 or another number of your choice) in accordance with how you would weigh the priorities, then split the number of points for each row by job to total up to the number of points you allocated to it. Add the points for each job and voila. If you find yourself allocating the same number to the priority for each job, you can exclude that priority in your assessment or view it as Must Have but don’t bother with allocating points to that priority.
I have never had the privilege of multiple job offers at the same time. I have always had to decide on one option before I knew what my other choices might be. I think, in that situation, many of us feel we do not have the leeway to wait out a better option when a pretty good one comes our way. And of course, how tight our expenses are, and other personal factors, play a huge role in what level of risk we are able to take.
I am really glad we squeezed in a quick bike ride earlier this week because it is too hot to even think about it now.
VERY good luck with your job search!
I spent the day in Chant d’Arômes but it faded a few hours ago, so now I’m in Rochas Absolu from last quarter purchases, so I am still getting to know it. I discovered that it has a bright citrus opening so maybe it will join my other summer ambre LM Lumière d’Ambre. Absolu is by Jacques Cavallier, now of Louis Vuitton, so out of my price range, wearing this is a way to still enjoy his work.
If anyone can find a good deal on LV, it’s you!
Ah, thank you for the compliment Lillyjo but LV perfumes never show up on discounters and even on ebay.uk I find the prices too high + I hate LVMH and what they did to perfumery.
You do come up with some incredible finds in the Damage Polls.
?
Well I will happily claim some CP points as I am wearing a good amount of Sticky Cake sprays. My favorite ice cream is green tea, blueberry, rum raisin and pistachio. Sticky Cake can make one think of ice cream. Particularly the milk and pistachio notes in it.
Points for you
Not on the CP yet, though I have options! Today’s SOTD is Jo’s Rhubarb, from Zara. I quite like it, though it’s gone after 3-4 hours.
Rhubard note: hmmm, you may have given me an idea for the CP (goes to dig out Mugler Aura…sherberts count, right?)
I think sherbets count! And sorbets, and gelatos … must stop now before I start craving all of the above, lol.
I’m wearing Xerjoff Lira because it reminds me vaguely of creamsicles. It is the only scent I have that smells anything like ice cream so I may have to wear it all week.
The perfume does not have to smell like ice cream to get points! The definition is very loose.
SotD started out with Aromatics Black Cherry. I am trying to think of an ice cream scent, and I like black cherry ice cream, but ABC goes in a non-gourmand direction. Just before heading out to my hot and humid yard for a morning of this and that, I topped it off with Fendi L’Acquarossa Elixir. Some on Fragrantica have voted as “reminds me of” ABC. IDK. (But I really like both scents.) The search for an ice cream scent in my collections continues.
As I said just above, there are no rules and you don’t have to wear a gourmand!
Wearing Eau de Rochas. Rather wish it came in a kiddy-sized wading pool, so I could wallow around in it.
I love Eau de Rochas, it’s a unique cologne. I wouldn’t mind bathing in it either
Showing up late to say I’m wearing Gris Clair today. Not interested in lavender ice cream. I’m not very adventurous with my flavors and like to stick with chocolate or coffee ice cream best (preferably coconut ice cream, since I’m fairly lactose intolerant). Maybe one of my coffee-scented samples will arrive in time for the Friday project.
I am pretty adventurous with flavors, but chocolate and coffee are my favorites!
I will say a great combo is a small scoop of lavender ice cream with a medium scoop of a good Dutch or Belgian chocolate ice cream!
I’m wearing Mure et Musc today because someone mentioned it yesterday (thank you) and it can count for a black or dark berry flavored ice cream. I thought of another kind of ice cream I love, mango (ice cream, sorbet, or gelato). Not sure if there are mango scents? Probably.
Today is one of those bad days… air conditioning woes. I had a repairman yesterday for one of the units in my house, but the problem isn’t fixed so they’re sending him back (as they should) today. Meanwhile when I got out to go somewhere this morning I discovered that the a/c in my car has stopped working. What all this spells out is, I’m afraid, $$$ going out the window. Meanwhile I have another cat with a problem (ear infection) but her vet trip will have to wait until I get my car fixed.
PSO: The new/final season (Season 7) of Bosch was pretty good overall. I have some complaints, but won’t mention them to avoid spoilers. I’ve read all the Bosch books and the characters in the show are really great realizations of the ones from the books, especially the lead (the handsome Titus Welliver) playing Bosch.
Good question: is there Mango Perfume? I feel like saying yes but can’t think of any…
Hope the cat recovers quickly and good luck with Your car A/C!!
Isn’t there a mango note in Saturday? Oh wait, no, that’s passionfruit. Hmm. I feel like they’re kissing cousins, anyway.
Needs Vermeire Bombay Bling!
That should be Neela!
Trying to enable? ???
Ugh to all of the above except a handsome Bosch! I hope you can return to coolness soon!
There’s a green mango note in L’Artisan Timbuktu. And one of the summer LE Escadas (Rockin’ Rio) had a mango note in it, but that also had tons of sugar.
As a Rockin’Rio fan I can only agree, lots of incredibly sugary (and trashy) mangos.
LOL at “trashy mangos”!
NVC Bombay Bling
Jacomo Art Collection #9 has a mango note. I’m thinking about wearing it on Friday. #8 could be an ice cream, too.
Angel eau Crossiere 2019 version is a mango perfume. IIRC though, you’re not an angel fan.
Parfums de Nicolai Eau Exotique, although I don’t think she makes it anymore.
Vilhelm Mango Skin.
Calypso, so sorry about your expensive a/c problems!
Sorry about the a/c problems; I hope they are fixed promptly!
I also wore Mure et Musc earlier today; I enjoyed it more this time. Maybe the heat brought out something that I didn’t get the first time around.
Ohhhh I forgot the name of this Thai perfume house that makes a fragrance called Mango Sticky Rice. One of my favorite desserts too!!
I spent most of my day in Law Galion’s Åme perdue, which would sort of translate to peach or plum ice cream. Never tasted either of those but I have very fond memories of some apricot ice cream I once had in Siena Italy. I even remember the name of the shop, it was called Nannini and they sold wonderful things.
Law is Le
Peach ice cream made with fresh peaches is amazing.
But ice cream in Italy is better than ice cream anywhere else.
No CP for me, because Aromatics Elixir called me today. Great for a warm and cloudy summer day.
You gotta do what you gotta do
I’m wearing the heavenly Santal Sultan, a genuine Mysore sandalwood oil from Ensar Oud.
This would be a delicious ice cream flavor; HOWEVER, it’s unsafe to consume sandalwood oil. ☠️ Someday, I must try eating vanilla ice cream while sniffing it, though.
Sounds like a worthy plan!
That perfume oil sounds wonderful.
Even more hot and humid here than yesterday was. The air temperature has made it up to at least 95F, which is 35C for those of you on the metric system.
Last night’s weather got “energetic”, with a bit of a brownout, the cable TV getting knocked off the air, and my cell phone conversation with my brother getting dumped. Some truly epic thunder and lightning there. ⚡☔?
More of the same might be in store for tonight.
SOTD = back in 8 Billion Astronauts today. I think part of what I smelled yesterday was the far drydown of something else, since I am not getting any floral notes at all. Today, 8 Billion Astronauts is a woody amber with hints of incense. No bubblegum notes either.
Edit: “here TODAY than yesterday was.” Derp!
Interesting — what brand is 8 Billion Astronauts?
Soivohle. Unfortunately, it sold out in a New York minute. The only reason I have a sample is because it was included as a freebie when I bought Paracelsus.
I hope my cold front reaches you soon!
Btw… how is your mom doing? ( sorry if I have missed any updates)
No Heat Wave here, since the temps were in the 90’s for “only” two days. It’s supposed to be a little less hot tomorrow.
Sigh. My Mom was admitted to hospital over the holiday weekend. She was not doing well at all. She did have a fever when she was admitted, and hadn’t eaten in 3 or 4 days. In fact, “hospice” was mentioned to my brother. Lots of tests run again. Her BP wasn’t being managed very well, it seems. As of this afternoon, she is in a different PT/OT/rehab facility than the one she had been in this past spring.
I didn’t say anything over the weekend because a) lack of information, and b) didn’t want to bum anyone out.
Aww geeze… I am sorry. I know this has been a difficult time. I hope she can get stabilized. Hugs to you and your brother.
Thank you lillyjo. My brother and I are taking it one day at a time.
So sorry to read this, sending hugs.
Thanks Aurora.
Really sorry Jalapeno!
Thank you Robin.
Same yucky weather although I may chance a short walk!
Good luck with walkies! ?♀️
Did 1.8 miles so better than yesterday!
Cool front coming through! Enjoying sitting on the deck again. My sotd is bbw coconut lime body cream. I’ve had a slight headache all day, but it’s easing up. I saw bbw is already putting the fall scents out. I’m not ready for pumpkin anything!
Glad your headache diminished. I am pumpkin-ready at any time!
They did have a new fall one called Apple Coconut, that caught my eye. I will wait for the coupon.
Boo hiss for a headache! Hope that you can shake it ASAP.
Thanks Jalapeno. I took some benadryl and it’s helping.
Good to hear. BTW, I am not ready for pumpkin anything, either!
SOTD = Frapin 1270
Love this! Out of all the Frapins I tried as part of the February 2021 virtual masterclass presented by OsswaldNYC, I liked this the best. Go figure that it was something from 2010!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CRCpEtgB6dg/?utm_medium=copy_link
In other news, I never made it into the office this morning. I will try again tomorrow, Tropical Storm Elsa can go fly a kite ?.
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again, huh?
Exactly!
That owl could be brand ambassador, it matches so well!
Possibly!
I’m wearing Box of Eels parfum today.
Always works, Box of Eels.
Posting late, but I’m wearing Chocolate Man by Dame Perfumery (Jeffrey Dame). Dark chocolate heaven! I might have to wear it for the Ice Cream CP too!
