Happy Friday and happy King Kamehameha I Day! Our community project for today: wear a tropical or beachy floral. Bonus points if your fragrance includes at least one floral or fruit note native to Hawaii. (Native in modern times, that is, given that many of the flowers and fruits we associate with Hawaii were brought from elsewhere.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in L'Artisan Parfumeur Ananas Fizz. It would work for next week's project too, since the limited edition bottle with the pineapple cap was definitely a factor in my purchase. (There is a nice shot of it on flickr; here.)
Reminder: on 6/18, we're doing edition 3 of Bottle Porn Friday, by request. Wear something you bought in part or in full because of the bottle, or a fragrance you think has a beautiful (or otherwise perfect) bottle. (suggested by michael and happy888cat, this is a repeat of a project we did in 2015 and 2017.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Protea , Sue Salisbury Maui Hawaii [cropped] by Sue Salisbury at flickr; some rights reserved.
And, I just realized that proteas, originally from Australia, have only been in Hawaii since the 70s, so sorry for the poor image choice!
It sure said “Hawaii!” to me! In my one and only trip I saw a lot of leis made with roses, so I think they are non-denominational about their flowers…
Well good then 🙂
Interesting, I thought they originated in South Africa.
Good morning NST!
I’m in Bombay Bling, inspired by PL67’ s post yesterday.
It’s as close to tropical as I have in my collection. Makes me happy every time I wear it.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
One of my favorites!!
You smell perfect!
Thank you PL 67!
Cheerful, happy and beautiful, you smell great!
Thank you Austenfan! So do you.
Glad you’re back amongst colleagues ?
I’m in my go-to beachy smell, perhaps the only one I have, Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete. I bought it online years ago based on the notes (ylang, carnation, and vanilla), and it’s the best blind buy I ever made. It’s perfect: it could have been created with me in mind.
Such a pretty fragrance. if I’d seen your post earlier we could have snapped!
Scent siblings today!
Tonight I’ve given myself a couple of blasts of Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Ylang & Vanille. A cool weather tropical floral.
My favourite bed-time scent!
That’s exactly what I wore it for AnnieA. Drifted off into dreams of tropical escapades.
I’ve heard that is one of the best of the Guerlain AAs.
Good morning and TGIF!
Fruits! I am smelling like a basket full of delicious, ripe and juicy mangoes and pineapples in Terry de Gunzburg’s Fruit Défendu.
Now I am craving some fruit sorbet 😛
Oh yum!
I’m in Prescriptives Calyx.
Calyx is so refreshing!
Great choice!
I’m going sideways at the CP in Paris-Deauville. Back when I visited my folks at their (now former, sadly) condo on Maui, my favorite evening “cocktail” was a weak rum and soda with a generous squeeze of lime from a tree just down the hill from them. Yum. Limes are probably not native to Hawaii so I’m probably stretching the limits of the CP … but I smell great. ?
My husband and his friends were big fans of Mount Gay rum with soda and lime during summers on the Cape. Limes are good in drinks and scents!
I don’t think I’ve ever tried Mt. Gay. My parents mostly drink wine, but they kept a bottle of light rum around for me. ?
You smell nice! Did the refrigerator fit?
It did! We did end up having to take our front door off its hinges, but other than that everything went reasonably smoothly.
TGIF! My SOTD is Cool Tropic Palm by Comptoir Sud Pacifique, a favorite for warm weather. 🙂
Later, I’ll spritz Dune Homme. Another favorite beachy/fig scent.
Smokeytoes is extra clingy this morning. We had fireworks go off last night, he isn’t amused. He’s blocking the front door and won’t allow dad to pass. 😀
https://www.instagram.com/p/CP8SPtdBLAd/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Ohhhh SmokeyToes is a beautiful kitty!! Poor thing is mad at daddy for the fireworks ?
Thank you! 🙂
SmokeyToes and my Larry are in agreement about fireworks. Larry doesn’t like thunder, either. What does SmokeyToes think?
Oh my! SmokeyToes kitty is SO floofy! ?
Poor kitty!
I wanted to wear something with frangipani or any of the beautiful flowers I remember smelling in Hawaii, but then, most of them are not native. During a trip in 2019 I had one conversation with a lady who was a botanist, from which I learned just how many of the flowers I loved smelling were in fact invasive species..! So today I went with Strange Invisible Perfumes Tropical Vial, which smells like what the green side of Hawaii Big Island feels: heat and dense foliage, with hint of fruit, and memory of eating a small lilikoi flavored vegan cheesecake bought at Island Naturals store.
That’s all delicious sounding!
That sounds like a great scent and even better memories!
Sounds wonderful – another house goes to the sampling list. These community projects are dangerous?
Feeling very tropical in vintage CSP Tiare. It’s part of a set of minis that also includes Pamplemousse and Tropiques. The labels on the aluminum splash bottles are starting to lose their adhesive, but the scent’s still pretty good. The trio came in a carved wooden box, which I still have.
Also wearing Tiare, but in the OJ iteration. Aloha!
Wearing Bronze Goddess as it’s sufficiently beachy, and starting my own vacation tomorrow though few beaches are likely to be involved.
Enjoy your vacation!
Perfect glam vacation starting scent. Have fun.
Robin, the image is beautiful. Arrived in Hawaii in the 70’s makes a staple there by now:) also I admire YOU for HAVING Ananas Fizz pineapple cap!! I have been searching forever for that bottle myself, but most importantly I have never smelled it yet. But I always wanted that bottle though!!
It is double what one would normally consider vintage ?
The cap has not held up perfectly and is currently held together with some discreet tape, if that helps 🙂
But personally, I would not buy a bottle that old, unless I was particularly after a vintage version of a scent, which I don’t think applies here (?) You would do better to buy a newer version.
Right. Thanks for the suggestion!!
SOTD: Chanel Paris-Edimbourg
I’m nonstop work these days, even on weekends, unfortunately.
Enjoying the new splits received and Edimbourg is a very pretty, but simple, lavendar-focused scent. Stays quite long on me compared to the other Les Eaux’s.
Happy Friday, all!
And it had quite the opposite effect on me. I do love the fragrance!
I was going to wear Datura Noir for the CP, the only vaguely tropical scent I have that came to mind, but then I remembered that I have a sample of L’Artisan Bana Banana, so I spritzed that instead. VERY banana in the first few minutes — I’m hoping it morphs into something a little less ripe in the next hour or so, otherwise I might be the target of any fruit flies in the neighborhood.
Happy Friday, all!
I never did try that, but now I realize I should have worn CSP Vanille Banane this week.
Doubling down in CSP Aloha Tiaré topped with OJ Frangipani. Doesn’t work as well as the Terracotta, Frangipani combo.
Heading out early tomorrow to a graduation shindig for one of my husband’s childhood friend’s kids. Five hour drive, two nights away. Should be fun but forecast is hot and, undoubtedly, horribly humid. People will be thinking, “why is that woman crying?” Not realizing it’s sweat dripping from my forehead….
I can relate! I definitely don’t perspire, I sweat and my forehead is the worst. Maybe try taking a linen handkerchief to dab your brow, and a hand fan.
Yes! Thank you for reminding me. I have cheap fans I used to carry for subway. Will toss in my overnight. I have lots of hankies too.
A great tropical time! It is not ever that I have 2 NST scent of the day in one week. Earlier this week I wore Kai, and so excited to wear my cherished Ananas Fizz with the cute pineapple top bottle. I hope they bring it back.
Also going sideways with the CP: enjoying myself in a cloud of Bamboo Harmony. Purchased because: it is Kilian, because of the tea notes in it and because I love the name.
In Nuxe Prodigieux le Parfum and feeling beachy even though it’s overcast and sprinkling here. I have the oil too and enjoy putting it on my hair and enjoying the scent throughout the day.
I’m looking forward to trying the new floral version. Has anyone had a chance to sniff it yet?
I like to put the Huile Prodigieux in my hair, too — does double-duty as a curl tamer and fragrance halo creator!
I have the floral oil, it’s a bit of a fruity floral scent. Very enjoyable.
Sipping on some cold brew Ka’u coffee and enjoying a slice of toast with wililaiki blossom honey.
SotD was Fresh Sugar Lychee, but that’s worn off from gardening outside. Contemplating either MM Beach Walk or Cartier Zeste de Soleil as a replacement… or maybe I’ll just go with monoi oil instead.
Lovely pic.
Your breakfast sounds amazing. wililaiki blossom honey? sign me up!
It’s from Big Island Bees honey (they have 3 main varietals) – my family usually sends me a jar for my birthday as it’s my favorite. It’s sweet and black pepper on the tongue where as macadamia blossom is sweet buttery/nutty and the lehua is sweet and super floral if that makes sense.
Tropical in Bat today, though it’s more furry than floral.
I continue to be afraid of Bat, the fragrance, though I’m not at all afraid of the animal. It’s probably lovely, though!
Wearing a dab of Courtesan today. After work, I will spray with abandon.
How could they DC this incredible fun and glam perfume. Courtesan is amazing. What a cool choice for the project too.
They discontinued this one? Why?
First: Robin, you smell great! I love that you have the fun Ananas Fizz bottle.
Scent: L’occitane Mimosa on one arm and a bit of Bronze Goddess on the other. Might apply OJ Frangipani later.
Lesson from this week: I should consider getting a paper notepad (remember those?) to jot down what I’ve thunked. I’m pretty sure I spent time this week trying to track down decants (OJ Osmanthus) and samples (Bahiana) that I’ve tossed. Whoops!
It was a great bottle, and I wish they still did summer LEs.
I used to track such things in Evernote, but have long since given up!
I recently bought a new paper notepad that has “WOMANKIND WORLD DOMINATION ACTION PLANNER” stamped on the cover in gold foil and it’s really making me feel good about my to-do lists. 🙂
oh that’s perfect! I live and breathe to do lists. 😀
That notepad is all kinds of awesome.
Now you sent me googling. I need a new notebook for work and this sounds just perfect!
I have a huge number of notepads and notebooks. I cannot function without writing tasks down – electronic calendars just don’t register in my brain.
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
First day back in the office since March 2020 required reinforcements.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CP_G0QlhRZi/?utm_medium=copy_link
I survived the commute with 3 trains cancelled, but I made it. Perhaps the smells have gotten more intense or I stopped getting used to them, ranging from horse manure, unwashed bodies and overapplication of indeterminate perfume. I’ll tell more in the weekend poll! Thanks for all the well wishes yesterday.
Yay – you made it. Interesting that they chose a Friday as your first day back? You smell wonderful and appropriate for a go get ’em day!
Thanks. I chose Friday as I knew it would definitely be less crowded.
I hope you went 8 sprays to fortify yourself for the trip in.
I only used 5 but judging by what I smelled on others, I would have been fine with 8 sprays!
Wow, 3 trains canceled and you still made it. Sounds like no 19 did its job! ?
Indeed!
I’m glad you were able to make the commute ok. Good luck with the day and the return commute!
I don’t know what the picture is, but it reminds me of the craft beads we used at day camp when I was little. Tell me what it is after someone guesses.
Thank you. I had a good day although parts of my technology did not work or worked after I smacked myself in the head for not noticing stuff.
You were close about the “craft” material…to be revealed in due course ?.
Big hugs to you! And I can totally imagine the smells being overwhelming on mass transit. Hope your day is going great! How many days a week will you be going in or is it more ad hoc please?
The perfume smells were inside the train. Outside was where a more diverse mix of organisms were present.
As to the number of days, we’re supposed to be at 50% occupancy but the math doesn’t work for individual teams given the odd number of days. Also, we were told that being together is good for collaboration but did someone forget that half the team won’t be there? My manager will not dictate the number of days or which days so for now, I will choose Thursdays and Fridays. Don’t know when this will start.
3 trains! That’s crazy.
Seriously. And there were no alerts!
Well, you smell just perfect! Too funny about the intensification of the smellscape — it may well be that your nose had learned to tune it out (to mix anatomical metaphors a bit…).
Possibly. Since I use my kitchen as my workspace, I usually just smell my perfume and food.
Reentry is stressful! Glad you eventually made it in. It will get better.
Thanks!
Yay, you made it! Although the smell sounds less than appealing, perhaps a scented handkerchief is in order. 🙂
I am not a handkerchief person; however, I think my mask can take White Flower oil ?
Where on earth are there horses in your commute?!?
I was trying to figure that out myself! It wafted around outside Penn Station and then again around Macy’s. Unless they are ummm vegan human ?. Eek. Methinks there should be more poop emoticons.
Horse poop has a “characteristic” odor that I don’t think is interchangeable with other stinks. There’s a fair amount of it around Independence Hall in Philly when the carriages are queued up.
Wow, that was quite an adventure! I’m glad no. 19 was there to shield you. But from manure???
Yes, I couldn’t figure it out either. Very strange!
GAH! That trip sounds like a nightmare.
No 19 to the rescue!
At least the train did not get crowded as it used to … 3-seaters were left as 2 seaters.
As I predicted, I’m in AG Songes today. Somewhat tropical and about as close as I generally get, just not my genre. Super happy it’s FriYay.
I’m looking forward to next week’s cp – just to see gorgeous or fun or weird bottles that others have. Most of my bottles are fairly standard. And I love that Ananas Fizz bottle, Robin!
I wore Songes yesterday ?
I am happy it is Friday too!
yes to Songes. You smell divine. 😀
It’s not my genre either, but I absolutely love (and don’t know why) Songes. Loved it from the first time I smelled it. My favorite for sultry summer evenings at outdoor concerts as well as cold, snowy January days.
Songes is gorgeous!
BUGGER! Songes is a great choice so I’m going with it for today. Do I get extra points for double days of project?
Such a great perfume! I was torn between this and Terracotta yesterday but was able to find Terracotta faster. Off to do some serious perfume organisation now!
Wearing Orquídea Absoluta by the Exotic Island Perfumer. The perfumer is Juan M. Perez, the nose for Zoologist Dragonfly, another favorite. It is really sad that his own line of perfumes, all beautiful, dissappeared after he was seriously affected by the hurricane in Puerto Rico. I hope he eventually brings his perfumes back.
Happy Friday! ?
I don’t know these perfumes but I hope he is able to re-start his business.
Totally failed the CP, wearing Gallivant Bukhara from my new bottle! So happy with this successful blind buy. In other news, it appears that my new dose of thyroid hormone has done the trick – I feel better than I have in a long time, even pre- surgery! Sitting at work, feeling ok, not overwhelmed. Odd sensation, to just feel ok. Didn’t realize that I have been feeling not ok for a while! I am such a fan of modern medicine… Happy Summer, everyone, (even though summer isn’t official until the summer solstice on June 21 or something like that, right?)
Glad that the medicine is working! I will hopefully be starting new medicine in the next month and am looking forward to feeling ok too.
You are correct about the solstice. ?
So glad you are feeling better…I am a big fan of modern medicine too! 🙂
So glad to hear you’re feeling better than ever! Modern medicine is indeed a blessing, and so is getting out from under the burden of constantly feeling not-okay.
Glad to hear you are feeling better!
Great news that you are feeling better.
Wonderful news that you are feeling so much better; wishing you many such good days ahead.
Glad to hear you are feeling better!
Everyone is sweet and kind! Thank you all, my perfumista friends!
I’m thrilled to hear you feel better!
Glad to hear that you are seeing such an improvement in things with your new meds.
My favorite tropical smell is Vanira Moorea. I’m sure if Hawaii doesn’t have oranges, it will have vanilla orchid. This stuff is so great. All I want from a perfume is to smell great, and it does that. Has a dry down on fabric similar to Lolita Lempicka from before they made it too sugary.
yay! I almost wore VM today. 😀 Spoiled for choices aren’t we? Agree there is something like LL in there, never thought of it before!
Thanks for sending me that VM sample. It smells like I remember my aunt Voula’s house smelling. Which is weird because she smoked inside, but I don’t remember her or her home smelling like smoke. Just this delicious vanilla smell.
Oh yes- that is so pretty! You smell like a tropical dream! 🙂
You smell lovely. Hawaii has a variety of citrus growing there these days (my mom has an orange tree and a tangerine tree in her back yard) plus a plethora of orchids including vanilla.
Copying PL67’s scent from yesterday, Bombay Bling. What a happy scent.
I’m off to my son’s elementary school graduation soon. I will try not to cry! Then dinner with the in laws tonight.
Yay for your son! I say go ahead and cry!
Congrats to your son; treasure every moment!
Congrats to your son! And yeah, I’m with lillyjo, go ahead and cry.
Congratulations!
Suitably peachy and tropical in Musc Monoï (Parfums de Nicolaï). I had not worn this in well over a year, it is lovely, and makes me think of summer holidays be they in the tropics or not.
Yesterday I had my first day of work in the office in well over 7 months, it has made me feel so much better, not so isolated.
A great start to the weekend!
How lovely, good for you!!
Thanks Robin, we humans are social animals after all it’s the simple things that I was missing so painfully.
Yay for back to the office! I hear you on the isolated feeling.
Yep, I surprised myself by how much it improved my mood
Sounds like that was a good day at the office for sure!
It most definitely was!
That’s wonderful – is this your first time working in the office since you moved?
No I had four weeks in October and then worked from home till this week. I will not be able to work in the office full time because we are only allowed 20% of the normal number of people there, but even a few times a week will do me good.
Was it scary and fabulous to be back in the work environs?
Fortunately not scary but just fabulous in all its non fabulousness
Trying Chinotto Gourmand…very nice but somewhat aldehyde heavy for my tastes perhaps.
Happy, happy Friday!…been a crazy week work-wise. Have my daughter’s 8th birthday party at an indoor trampoline place tomorrow…wish me luck!!!?
Happy Birthday to your daughter! 8 already!
Good luck tomorrow ?
Happy birthday to her! May all the jumping tire her out in the best possible way and make for a peaceful night for all! 🙂
Happy birthday ? to your daughter and wishing you luck!
Good luck for the party!
Sending you thoughts of strength and endurance for the big event tomorrow! ????
My thoughts exactly☺️ May the force be with you!
Happy Birthday to your daughter!??
Oh my! 8 already?
Memoire D Une Odeur, so no points for me today. Maybe I will wear some Nuxe oil this evening for the night.
You smell so good though. MMM
It is my day off, and I am avoiding paying bills.
Does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive air purifier? They seem to be like perfume… reviews are all over the place.
I have a ton of beachy scents now, because I went on a beach kick a few months ago. ( ok, maybe not a ton, more like 5, lol) I am going with my new Miami Glow body spray. I went through 2 bottles in the last decade and decided I could live with the body spray since it was five dollars. It smells more chemically than it used to, but still pretty good.
Hi lillyjo — I have two Winix brand ones that work well and weren’t too spendy, and an Air Doctor that I purchased with a suffering-Californians discount that they offered last year. All very energy inefficient and seem to work well to reduce allergens as well as wildfire smoke (may we never weather something like last summer again!)
Thanks for the info! I have been leaning towards the Winex brand.
ha! I’m with you, lillyjo. This month I ignored my internet bill for so long it was due the day before I paid it. Oopsies 😉
I can only say thank goodness for the car payment grace period! Lol
Hope that you enjoyed a little bit of your day off.
Ikea just came out with one! And it’s supposed to be pretty good.
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/rooms/living-room/how-to/how-to-use-the-foernuftig-air-purifier-pub0a9e8710
I’m back from my camping trip and non-CP-compliant in Paris-Biarritz from the splitmeet, but I can tell this will be a fleeting fragrance so I may shift to something more tropical this afternoon. I came home to the best pile of mail ever — all the splitmeet packages plus some luscious silk pajamas I scored on ebay, *plus* a letter from the IRS saying “We might send you some money” rather than the other way around. A pretty decent ‘welcome home’!
Now, that is a HOMECOMING indeed! SCORE!
Chanel Eaux twins! 😀 You smell wonderful.
Oh wow, I want your mail!
Most days you don’t, but today was a winner!
My mail hasn’t come yet, I hope we are mail twins! Lol
I love that kind of mail! My new driver’s license came today and the picture is hideous.
Lol. My photo makes me look like a farmer with a giant head.
I think that the photographers for state DMVs take a class in how to make people look bad.
My drivers’ license photo is from 20+ years ago and was taken right after I rode my bike to the DMV on an 85 degree day, with consequent sweaty red-facedness. Every time my license is up for renewal, they send me a letter that says, “Don’t worry — we have your photo on file!” and I’m like, shoot.
I actually liked my previous picture, unfortunately I moved to a new province so they had to take another one. I have pandemic hair and the colour is now listed as white. Boy do I feel old and haggard. Maybe you can suggest next time the photo needs an update?
Wow- I want to hear about those pajamas!
They’re lavender and white stripey ones from Morgan Lane, which is a brand I typically can’t afford but sometimes I can find them gently used at a steep discount. I bought a pair as a birthday gift for myself several months ago and I sleep SO WELL in them!
Happy Friday!
1) Am in Kai perfume oil & body lotion after a shower in Waikiki Moisturizing Shower Cream by BBW. It’s lovely gardenia/jasmine and truly feel tropical on this cool, rainy June day.
2) Am waiting for the delivery of the butcher block countertops and my handyperson is doing the final panels and trim for the wall & pantry cabinets! There remains the island to be anchored to the floor, the plumbing for the island AND then the fix to the floor (some of the flooring will need to be taken up and adjusted for the island). I also did a mock up of the island countertop; it’s hard to find butcher block in the size I need (85 by 39) unless I get it custom. However, custom butcher block will be on par in expense to stone/smooth surface for the island. I will sand and treat the butcher block for the wall cabinets this weekend so it can ‘cure’ and be ready for first fit next week.
3) To get away from all the house stuff, I went to (double vaccinated ) birthday party that was called last minute! It was so fun to be around party people in a space, to give and get hugs, and dance in a living room!
Kai is perfect today and every day. You smell beautiful! 🙂
Oh thank you! And Kai is truly lovely!
What a fun party, and your butcher block sounds great.
I just received it an hour ago! It really looks good in person!
Dancing with people
Sounds like carefree joyous fun
Thank god for vaccines!
I can not wait to go to a dance party! Sounds like you had some much deserved fun
SotD = Chanel Paris-Riviera
I thought I’d wear Terracotta or Songes today, but my hand wavered and reached into the box of decants. P-R reminds of Beige but without the honey. Also reminds me of a floral-scented tanning oil I can’t quite recall the name of, so I’m calling it “in” for today’s CP. 🙂
Hope everyone has a lovely Friday. In a few hours I’m heading to Costco for the first time in I can’t remember how long. Slowly wending my way back to life in the wider world!
How funny, we’re going to Costco today for the first time in ages as well.
We will be smelling wonderful out in the wide, wild world.
that is funny! We do smell beautiful, doing our civic duty to improve the Costco ambiance if you ask me 😀
We have a younger friend who’s let us know when she’s headed to Costco for over a year so we haven’t had to go. The thought of a weekend Costco run seems daunting st this point.
It did feel daunting, I went with my sister for moral support.
🙂 She’s more courageous and has been doing her Costco shopping plus mine, then delivering it to me, for the past year. I’m very grateful.
Almost scent twins today! Good luck with the Costco run.
thanks, Jalapeno! We smell lovely. 🙂
Costco was easier than I expected. It almost felt good to shop again.
Wearing CB I Hate Perfume’s White Ginger Flower. I’ve had this sample forever, and am so close to thunking it…Anyway, the CP seemed like a perfect time to wear it, since ginger is not exactly native to Hawaii, but has been there since appx. 300 AD. Happy Friday one and all!
Your SOTD sounds lovely.
Testing Whispers in the Library but having a tropical beverage lol. Passionfruit beer but I am struggling to taste passionfruit in it lol. Not impressed lol.
Not sure if I would try a passionfruit beer. You are braver than I!
I’ve had passionfruit ipa so good it haunts my dreams!
Ooh nice. Do you recall what brand?
Tired Hands’s Such Passion. I love that beer. I’ve driven two hours each way just to get a growler of it. 🙂
I’ll have to add it to my list of things to find next time I visit with friends and family in NJ and PA, lol. Thanks.
I am nowhere near PA so that one looks like it’s out haha. Not big on Ipa but SN Hazy Little Thing is nice to me cause it tastes like pine needles and apparently, I like that lol. I think another brew that I remember liking..was Drake’s Drakonic, dark chocolate imperial. Tasty.
What brand did you try? I’ve had the Kona Brewing company one before, but it was years ago. I think it was a scent of passionfruit when first poured and a bit of a tart finish to an otherwise standard wheat beer.
..I think it was Alaskan..passion fruit double blonde..double bleh. Lol.
Joining the CP with California Reverie. Fits the theme just fine.
And you smell amazing!
It’s nearly 4 years since my trip to Hawai’i. My beloved’s son (which makes him my step-son, but I’ve always found that an odd thought, I doubt he thinks of me as his step-mother!) got married on Maui. Looking out at a dull wintry morning, Hawai’i seems very attractive 🙂
I seem to recall a lot of wild ginger, but I might be imagining that. Nonetheless, I will wear my favourite ginger, Mon Nom est Rouge from Majda Bekkali.
There is a lot of wild ginger in the back country of O’ahu, The Big Island and Kauai! So it is a perfect choice!
Today’s cp perfectly suits the days we’ve been having lately – it’s definitely tropical weather with temps in the 90s and high humidity now. Not my kind of weather unless I’m in the pool and I’m not today ?.
I chose LMDLV Vanille Divine des Tropiques as my SOTD. Its name and some of its notes – jasmine, tuberose, gardenia – meet the cp criteria. On me, it’s mostly a soft, sweet, creamy vanilla with just a touch of the tropical. I almost smell a bit of coconut but it’s not listed in the notes. And, fortunately, I’m not getting any tuberose, a note I don’t care for. It also fits last week’s cp as it, and several others, were sent to me by a wonderful perfumista a number of years ago who decided she wasn’t a vanilla person.
Here in Illinois, including Chicago, we are celebrating moving to the complete reopening of all facilities and the ending of most of the Covid restrictions (masks, social distancing, capacity limits). Masks only need to be worn by all on public transportation, hospitals, and a few other places and, although masks are supposed to be worn in most places by the unvaccinated, that doesn’t seem to be enforced too strongly. I’m still being very cautious here, but I am very glad that starting today all our park district pools are fully open with hourly reservations no longer needed. Swimming and baseball games are the highlights of my summer and what I’ve missed most. Last week’s Sox game was awesome; hope I can say the same about my first swim of the season next week!
Wishing everyone an awesome weekend ahead!
Yay for reopening! Swim season is the best.
Yes! Along with baseball games and outdoor concerts!
Are there any park district pools you can recommend? I tried Holstein Park’s once, but 20 minutes after getting in the water, we all had to evacuate because someone had a lil accident in the pool. When I told this to a work friend, she said “people are always pooping in that pool!” Haha! But now I’m scared to try another. I really love swimming though.
We used to call that “code brown” ?
Noooo! Haha!
?
I live in the nw suburbs and am not familiar with Chicago Park District pools. But I don’t think that’s a problem confined to just the pool you went to. It happens occasionally in mine, too, and it’s not just kids! I like to go in the early afternoon right after the Senior Swim hour, and many of the seniors stay for awhile afterwards. Last year there was a ‘code brown’ episode that was clearly caused by a senior. Just one of the sometime hazards of public pools. If you love swimming as much as I do. I hope you’ll give it another try.
Oh okay, cool! Yeah, I know it can happen anywhere, but it’s the first time I’d seen it happen! I guess most pools I’m used to are of the gym/Y/JCC variety, but they must get mishaps sometimes too. I could try the lake again, of course–at least there I probably wouldn’t see anything since the water’s not that clear!
My favorite lake swim has always been Oak Street Beach. Swimming in the joy and beauty of Lake Michigan and then you turn around and see the skyscrapers that reflect the strength of the city always gave me a thrill. Haven’t been there in a long while but used to love going when I attended Loyola’s Lewis Towers campus.
How exciting! I hope all of your favorite summer activities are extra sweet this year.
Thank you, I’m looking forward to anything outdoors!
Well, well. I am on point in Zoologist’s Chameleon, which includes notes of mango, coconut, frangipani, and sea salt, among others. I wouldn’t say it is a classic tropical scent–no suntan lotion note–but floral beachy for sure. Either it has notes that I am anosmic to, or it is just something in the mix, but catching this perfume is like lightening in a bottle. Now I smell it; Now I don’t. Pretty, but frustrating.
And today I concluded, beyond a doubt, that Snowy Owl does not work for me. I so like the idea, the marketing, and the nose—but not the scent, sadly.
I wanted to love Snowy Owl too for all the same reasons, but alas it’s not for me either.
I haven’t tried it yet, I thought it sounded wonderful but now I’m not so sure.
If you live in CONUS, lemme know your email and I am happy to share my sample.
Really? I’m at opponatrix@gmail.com, thanks!
Snowy Owl is the one I have not yet smelled but I’ve had it on my wishlist for a while a.k.a blind buy wishlist that is!!
Not really tropical but the best I can do: Hiram Green Shangri La. It’s a dark rainy day, so I’ll dream of far off tropical vacations.
You need to close on the house first ?
Yep, that’s for sure! I’m hoping this winter we can use up that United Air Lines voucher before it expires. 🙂
Going for at least partial points for the CP in Yosh Ginger Ciao, of which I have a bottle but forgot about. It does smell wonderful with that dark coconut! Since the temps here are in the 90s F with humidity to match, this smells very tropical. Now, before bed I will be showering with my beloved summer staple, Dr Bronners Peppermint Castile soap so I will be fragrance free to sleep, making me enjoy Ginger Ciao even more. Happy weekend everyone!
I’m in Olivine perfume oil, which the creator says was inspired by gardenias of Hawaii. This cp has been a great way for me to use up some of these perfume oils as I make my way through the sample stash.
TGIF! I have a 3 day weekend coming up. Hoping the weather is good.?
We’re 3-day weekend twins. I have been taking Mondays off to use up my 2020 vacation by June 30th – use it or lose it.
Hey weekend twin!??
I hope your weather is great!
Thanks sistine! Me too!??
Yay for a 3-day weekend! Enjoy!
Thanks Jalapeño!?
I had several perfumes to choose from today. Thanks to all you NSTers for reminding me of some things I had forgotten I had.
SOTD = Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum. Perfect for the cool, wet weather that rolled in today. It will be leaving just as quickly as it arrived.
The weather, that is. The perfume is still wafting around me nicely after several hours.
I almost didn’t know what clothes to wear today but I knew which perfume I needed ?.
I pulled out some wool socks for today, and that was a good call! It was chilly! ?
I think I need to burn all of my old office clothes and get a “uniform” when I start going back in. I’ve been in jeans and a black tee everyday while WFH and I love not expending mental energy on deciding what to wear. (This from a (former?) clothes horse ?♀️)
Terracotta sounds so nice, and gets a lot of love here! Yet another one I need to try someday :).
Hello there perfume twin!
I wore Replica Beach Walk today, from an almost-gone sample. I sprayed it 4-5 times this morning, and now what I have left is a sort of watery scent, not unpleasant, but I miss the coconut and sunscreen stuff. I think I’ll reapply some now that I’m home.
Only one more week to work now, and then I’ll be on vacation for over two weeks!
W00t w00t for vacation time!
Absolutely! Thank you!
Oooh, how exciting! Are you going anywhere?
Just to my parents’ house in Minneapolis, but I love being home again! And I haven’t seen them in almost a year. My brother will be visiting too, with his cat, and I’ll be bringing my dog, so I hope the pets (“cousins,” I say) get along!
I wore Lilly Pulitzer’s Beachy over Bain du Soleil orange gelee. The BdS works as a moisturizer but definitely not as spf these days; it smells great though.
It was cool and cloudy so there was lots of tidying done in the home office and we finally dealt with a bunch of things that had been put off for too long. Feeling very accomplished today!

Now you have me singing, lol.
? I knew it! I had forgotten about that commercial, but as soon as I read “now you have me singing” it popped right into my head!
That’s awesome! Thank you for that!
Or maybe this as a musical selection:

Oh that’s great too! Too bad I’m the opposite of tall and tan and young and lovely..?♀️
I am too, so you’ve got company! ?
Today (and yesterday) I participated in the CP using a sample of Ormonde Jayne’s Frangipani that I’ve had for at least three years but never tried. Wow, it is flipping gorgeous!!!
Today was my last day of work for this school year. We had two outdoor graduation ceremonies planned but had to move them into the gym and split them into 6 smaller groups because of heavy rain. So I’ve sat through/ handed out programs at 6 graduation in the last two days. I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, but I’m so thrilled the graduates and their families got a real ceremony. The true stars are all of the student speakers, singers and band members who had to perform 6 times!!!
Congratulations to you and your graduates! You made it!
Congratulations sistine! And glad you found a treasure in your samples!
Congrats!
Congratulations! You smell lovely.
Congrats! And kudos to the band members. I’m surprised their lips weren’t numb by ceremony no. 6 🙂
The quest for a coconut perfume is probably satisfied enough. I have a tiny bottle of Yves Rocher Noix de Coco, very realistic but very fleeting. I have still have a bottle of Harajuku Lovers G, nice, a bit sweeter and also not great on the longevity. I purchased a bottle of Pacifica Indian Coconut Nectar, very realistic and not very sweet. Honestly, Fragrantica reviews are not very trustworthy. I get no plastic and no play-doh just fours hours of every part of the coconut from the sweet flesh, to the water to the earthy stringy shell and surprisingly dry just like a real coconut. I think all of these would layer nicely with white florals, or fig and even vetiver, which is grown and harvested quite successfully in Hawaii now and also helps with erosion.
I did not know that vetiver was being grown in Hawaii. Wonder if anyone is making a perfume with it?
Hiram Green has a brand new perfume named Veitiver!
Although his is Java and Haiti vetiver, not Hawaiian. Very interested to sniff it!
Vetiver Farms Hawaii distills their own really excellent oil, for sale on the website and also the little dry bundles of vetiver grass to place in your draws and also a really nice bar soap. They also sell vetiver plants and do large grass installations to help with erosion. I just dab the oil behind my ears and on my arms because it is lovely enough to wear on its own.
I’m wearing Messe de Minuit from the splitmeet before last. It goes remarkably well with warm and humid conditions.
Posting late because I had a condensed morning at work, followed by my first summer Friday afternoon off! Spent an hour wandering the mall for the first time since pre-covid. In a cacophony of scent from sampling. Going up one arm and down the other, I’m wearing:
-JM Frangipani – CP point, but I prefer OJ’s version
– Chanel Edimbourg – fabulous
– En Passant – also fabulous
– Bitter Peach – too sweet tart-y for me
– Aerin Amber Musk – I prefer the JM Amber Musk, but think I missed the boat for that; this one is pretty close tho
-Chanel No 18 – expected to love it and I didn’t like it at all!
I love that Aerin Amber Musk!
Hi Robin! I thought the name Bottle Porn Friday sounded familiar. I believe that I suggested it in 2017. We did it June 2017 ?
Yep!
so now I must come out of covid hiding and participate 🙂
