Happy Almost-Friday and happy Iced Tea Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
Me, points again (I am doing better than usual this week) in Ormonde Jayne Frangipani Absolute.
Reminder: on 6/11, for King Kamehameha I Day, wear a tropical or beachy floral. Bonus points if your fragrance includes at least one floral or fruit note native to Hawaii. (Native in modern times, that is, given that many of the flowers and fruits we associate with Hawaii were brought from elsewhere.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

So I’m at work stapling a canvas, and somehow I just drove a staple into the side of my wrist, leaving two little bleeding holes like I was attacked by a vampire with a poor sense of direction, but it’s fine because Band-Aids exist and because I am wearing delectable, vintage-ish (late ‘90s? early 2000s?) Chanel Antaeus, thick with herbs and wood and so much oakmoss.
Sorry about the wound, but Antaeus sounds great. Do you know if the current version is any good?
I haven’t tried it, but I’ve read reviews and a lot of people think it’s still great. Of course, it’s changed: more floral now, I understand, and obviously minimal to no oakmoss, but a good scent is still a good scent.
Ohhhhh you smell marvelous! Vintage Anateus is fantastic stuff.
I love the vampire comment, with my luck, that’d be me in the “un”dead life.
Hope you cleaned your wound well! Nothing beats bleach IMO. And you smelled great earlier this week when you wore Yatagan!
Ugh…so sorry to here this…hope it heals quickly!
Oh gosh Antaeus was great!
So you smell great!
Ouch!
But Anteaus sounds wonderful!
Yikes! I flinched reading about your injury!
So did I. Ack.
Feeling tropical in Neela Vermeire Bombay Bling.
Having my second cup of coffee with a slice of Toblerone cheesecake.
Happy almost Friday, everyone!?
Wow, I will have a slice of what you’re having! And happy almost Friday back!
We’re headed to friends on Saturday, I’m planning on either a cheesecake or making Panna Cotta.
Thank you, SmokeyToes!
I got the Toblerone cheesecake from my local supermarket. Never tried it before and it is very tasty! But I would rather have Panna Cotta. It is one of my favorite desserts! ❤
I have a feeling it’s about to be mine too!
I think it can be adjusted for a variety of tastes, with coconut and drizzled with mango reduction.
Lemon with blueberries…
Oh, no, food porn…. stop, stop…my favoriate toppings are….rhubarb strawberry sauce with maybe a little porto stirred in at the last minute….freshly pitted dark sweet cherries soaked in Kirschwasser for a little while, and then drizzled with freshly melted dark dark chocolate… ugh, it’s swimsuit time, see what you did!
Drizzle with mango sounds delish! I will try this weekend!
I am very curious about Bombay Bling. How do You like it?
It is gorgeous and my favorite so far from NV. It is a beautifully blended fruity floral scent. Zesty mango, jasmine and gardenia are the most prominent notes to my nose. In the base cardamom and sandalwood show up making the scent more complex and interesting. Love it! ?
It’s my favorite from her line as well. A colleague wears it and it’s so lovely to smell it wafting in the air.
It is amazing and unusual! A little goes a long way, so my travel spray will last forever.
You smell fabulous! Thanks for reminding me that this one could count as tropical, I might just wear it tomorrow.
Thank you! You will smell terrific tomorrow!
Lots of love for the Neelas here at NST.
Her perfumes are beautiful! Some do not work for me, but still I appreciate greatly the whole line.
I’m actually able to claim some CP points with Batucada, which has tiare flower.
Great choice
Ah, forgot that!
Hi everyone, happy almost Friday. My SOTD is Oceane by Outremer, beachy/salty scent, mixed with Jardin sur la Nil body lotion by Hermes.
Coffee consumed, and I’m headed out the door to the gym! It’s leg/glute day!
FYI, DRMTLGY is having a site-wide sale. Code is SUMMER.
I am enjoying my tinted sunscreen from this line..
Sweet!! They have reduced the sunscreens available. Now it’s only tinted or non-tinted. They also used to have a non-tinted sport sunscreen. I think they are revamping the line, getting rid of certain items. I noticed the packaging has also changed.
I never knew about this site ST and now there is a bottle of serum on its way to me. Thank you, I think?? serum enabler.
Ohhh, let me know what you think! Did you get the vitamin C serum? Their sunscreens are fantastic, great SPF, nourishing and moisturizing sunscreens. I’ve gone through several bottles of their SPF.
I have thought about getting some of that as a cheap thrill to match my Outremer Vanilla bottle, which is just the prettiest little thing – I love those retro labels…
I love the retro bottles as well. Vanilla is a favorite, love to mix it with musk oil or a drop of patchouli oil.
I keep thinking of trying Outremer, but they are so cheap that I wonder how good they can be. Then I remember how little I paid for my bottle of Old Spice.
They’re really good.
I realized today that there is not a fabulous coconut perfume in my collection. I am slathered in two different Monoi Tiare oils and now I long for some coconut so I can smell truly tropical. Any suggestions?
I haven’t smelled it yet but the new Yves Rocher limited-edition summer scent, Vague d’Ete, is supposed to be tiare, coconut, monoï (gardenia), and vanilla. I’ll probably try it this weekend. Maybe you could read the reviews on Fragrantica but as ever take them with a grain of salt, because people’s perceptions vary so wildly.
Pacifica has a coconut perfume and body butter that are very reasonably priced. I think they can be found at Target.
Indian Coconut Nectar! I have the solid. Simple but really nice.
Been reading comments most days, but too busy (or lazy) to comment myself. Not doing the CP today but wearing Stash from a 10ml rollerball. Bought a SJP discovery set for $15 with 10ml each of Lovely, Lovely Sheer, Stash and NYC. Someone asked about Stash recently and my two cents is that it is Santal 33 with a milky fig note superimposed. And if you’ve ever smelled the Wilhelm x Skins collaboration of last year, you’ve basically smelled Stash.
We were almost twins today! I was to lazy to look for my roller ball though.
I have noticed since NYC has become more and more open, I have become more and more social and haven’t kept up with NST. Yesterday I visited a chai tea bar in the east village and then went wine shopping in Union Sq. Tomorrow I visiting the Guerlain Spa for the first time in a long time for a facial
SOTD Love Extreme
Wow enjoy Your Guerlain facial @ the spa!! Sounds so luxurious!!
They just opened..so I am not sure how they are going to do…figured I will get in just in case!
Yeah for openness, facials and Love Extreme!!!?
I am enjoying this one immensely. Shalimar if feeling ignored!
Inspired by comments yesterday (sorry, can’t remember who it was), I’m in Fils de Dieu today for a slightly different take on tropical.
Joining you in Fils de Dieu. Coconut isn’t usually my favorite note in perfume but I love this particular concoction. Makes me want to eat rice pudding!
I am wearing Quelques Fleurs Royale today and currently drinking my second cup of Nilgiri Winter Frost black tea.
Barqs, how was the 50s dinner?
Woke up super late this morning in no 5. Now that I am showered I am currently in vintage Givenchy III.
Oh you smell fabulous in your Givenchy!
Ohhh – you smell fabulous!
Well I shouldn’t be getting any points because I keep repeating the same pattern: I’m thinking for a few while in the shower which fragrance I should wear, come out and cannot help it. I just have to put some Tuberoza on. While wearing it I keep sniffing myself. But I actually want to constantly inhale and exhale this scent… It makes me feel fabulous.
Wearing what you want to wear is more important than points
I love this week’s CP and yet I’ve been failing at it all week. Maybe because it’s so chilly here; I had to turn the heat on on Tuesday and it’s been on all week.
Big day ahead! I’m getting my first haircut in over a year, AND having my first meal in a restaurant — will be meeting a friend for lunch.
SOTD is Vilhelm Dear Polly. Hopefully it won’t gas out my new hairdresser.
Oh, big day! Very brave of you to go to an entirely new hair stylist for the first cut!
Unfortunately I didn’t have much choice. My long-time hairdresser operates out of a tiny room in her home, and when I asked her about covid precautions, let’s just say I got an earful of politics. Time for a new hairdresser.
At least you got politics and not craziness. A neighbour phoned me recently and asked that we not see each other in person, as she has discovered that when she sees me, I mix up her cycle (she knows that I’ve been vaccinated). I was momentarily worried about her mental health until I Googled it and discovered this link: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/29/technology/covid-vaccine-period-conspiracy.html
Ye gods! That’s a real pile of crazy for sure.
We are having beautiful, clear blue skies and sunshine—but my shorts and dresses are languishing as I tuck in next to my office heater and pull the sleeves of my sweater down to my wrists!
I’m trying to figure out what to wear for an outdoor lunch. I *want* to wear summer clothes, but that is probably not smart!
Enjoy your lovely day! Haircut and lunch sounds so good!
Yay for a haircut AND lunch with friends! That sounds amazing.
In Chanel 19 EDP and waiting for a new refrigerator to be delivered. It’ll be touch-and-go whether it fits through our front door. ??
You are wearing No.19. It will fit ?
Ha!?
Indeed!
?
Fingers crossed!? They had to take the doors of ours when it got delivered.
Yeah, they’re going to have to at least take the handles off the new fridge. We’re also prepared to take our front door off its hinges, just in case.
Yeesh! My fridge was a skinny one but it just barely squeezed through!
Ooooof, I hope that your new fridge is in place with minimal dis-assembly needed.
Ooof, let’s hope it fits! I dislike our refrigerator, it’s so tiny compared to our former apartment. But, we have a larger gas store and much larger apartment, so there’s that.
Okay, about four hours’ work on our part (the delivery guys hooked up the water line, but didn’t level anything or make sure the doors were on straight) and we’re in business! Mr. G has his beer-erator in the garage, we have more space in the new unit than we know what to do with, and all’s mostly right with the world. Ahhhhh.
Oh yay!!
Whoo hoo!
Trying Zara Rose Marshmallow Candy…very sweet citrus and marshmallow…not too much rose in the opening at least…kind of smells like Sweet Tarts or Smarties a bit.
Thanks for all the Korres comments and recs yesterday…I appreciate it!
Thanks for the notes on RMC
I kind of like that sweet tarts/smarties note. I’ve gotten that from a few perfumes too.
twins on smelling sweet..
I would love to try Orossimo and Envide mentioned in the Best in Show piece but am not finding a way to order in the US.
Zara Rose Marshmallow actually sounds kinda fun!
Tested out Chanel No5 L’ Eau. I like it much better than the Original, but it’s gone in two hours…
8 sprays lasts all day on me ??♀️
I used 5 sprays… So I need more
This is what I would do were I to go into the office in L’Eau. One of these days …
is 8 sprays your minimum ?
Only while working from home. The only one so far that I’ve worn 8 sprays to the office is 28 La Pausa.
Hence, its nickname here as “8 Spray La Pausa”.
I like it much better than the original too. I wonder if you become anosmic to it…? I bet other people can still smell your loveliness.?
It stays all day as a skin scent on me- but I have sniff right to the skin.
I found with L’eau, that the more you wear it, the longer you will be able to smell it. Keep trying, it’s beautiful.
I finished my project yesterday and celebrated by driving to Pasadena to the dentist for teeth cleaning and walked over to Macy’s to get a fresh Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer at friends and family.
Now I have four days till new project starts. I am going to go to gym for first time since before pandemic began.
SOTD post shower will be my new love Bukhara.
Enjoy your 4 days of peace!
Sort of on theme–if after sunning oneself all day on a beautiful private beach in Maui you slip into a little gold lame something and head to “where the people dance.”
I want some action I want to live!
Action, I got so much to give.
I want to give it.
I want to get some too.
Oh, I, Oh, I, I love the nightlife
I got to boogie on the disco ’round, oh yea.
Oh, I love the night life
What perfume am I wearing? Ella of course!
I looked up the lyrics for this. I always thought the words were, “I got to boogie on the disco real” with real pronounced in Spanish like in El Camino Real. So it was like the royal disco I thought—which sounded so hedonistic and sexy.
So, disco in a bottle then? I’ve never smelled that one, but it sounds awesome.
It is, but I am not sure if that is only because of the power of suggestion—all the marketing screams disco. Pretty sure this perfume as a perfume would have been no match for the heavy hitters of the time. It smells like gold lame, jasmine and cigarettes. In a smackdown between it and ELDO’s jasmine and cigarettes (I have both–so obviously I enjoy the theme!), Ella is more aldehydes (gold lame?) and wrap around dress, and J et C is more dirty jasmine and ashtray, plastic beer cups, and the hint of a Skin So Soft product.
No points for me – I’m in my new decant of Chanel Paris-Venise thanks to our recent splitmeet. It seems No. 5 L’eau-adjacent, anyway. I like it!
This week feels very long and it’s a painful week at work. Possibly due to being OOO and on vacation off and on for the entire last three weeks? Retirement coming up and I am looking forward to it.
How much longer until Retirement Day?
Thanks to our generous hajusuuri, I’m testing Prada Infusion Mandarine today. Like the rest of the infusions, it’s lovely to my nose. I guess because of the citrus I expected less benzoin, but after the first 30 min, that’s actually what I smell the most.
My celebratory bottle of Paris-Edimbourg is scheduled to arrive today!
Fun! I really enjoyed that fancy Chanel packaging. Hope you love your new bottle!
I’m in Oxley perfume oil from Olivine Atelier with notes of gardenia, jasmine, vanilla and musk.
Today is my parents anniversary. They were married in June and I was born the following January. I’ll let you do the math.?
You just forced me to do the math on my parents, who also have a June anniversary and January kid (me!)
I responded to mtg that both of you are preemies ?
Ha! That’s why they got married!
You smell LOVELY!
Thanks!
You and Vee are preemies. That’s the answer. Amiright?
lol. I was 9 pounds, so I like your thinking! but unlikely.?
My parents were married in April, and I showed up the following January at a hair under 3 lbs. I was very much a preemie!
Oh wow, you were!
Happy Anniversary to them!
Thanks lillyjo!
SotD = Vanille Galante
Smells banana-y to me so I’m calling it a tropical floral.
Robin gave me a great tip for practicing crow pose, so I’m heading back to the yoga mat today. Face plants and accidental somersaults ahead!
Very good luck to you!! It would make me very happy if one of us could do crow, ha.
thank you, Robin
I got a little closer today. It’s a work in progress, heh heh.
SOTD is Shalimar souffle intense. The white florals in this smell tropical to me.
Oooh, you just gave me an idea!
A mix of L l’aime (lime and coconut) on left wrist and Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia on the right. The Lempicka faded but TG is still a skin scent.
I do like that LL!
Very glad you like it too, nobody ever mentions it, but it’s a fun one, never tried the edp version of the same name spelled Elle l’Aime.
I think they don’t get that many mentions because Lolita Lempicka is so poorly distributed in the US. Don’t know what their situation is elsewhere, but I used to see LL original mentioned way more frequently than I do now.
Wearing Alien Eau Sublime, which counts because it’s the sunny citrus flanker with tiare flower. Even though it’s power-washer raining outside.
I love this flanker. It’s so happy smelling.
I’m in Sycomore today, thanks to a generous NSTer. Re-testing to confirm that yes, it is beautiful.
Picked up a handful of cheapie FBs yesterday. Between those, the decants form the splitmeet, and a pile of samples that seems to grow on its own, I need to do some reorganizing this weekend. I ordered an ammo case from amazon to corral my samples, but the caliber size is too narrow for some of my vials. So now my google history is filled with searches like “what are the fattest bullets?” which is amusing given that I’m a vegetarian who escorts (non-invasive) bugs outside rather than down the drain.
More chocolate pu’er today. I’m usually not big on black tea with added flavors, but the chocolate shavings in this are just so tasty.
Sycamore is gorgeous.
*stares in cybersecurity at browser history*
If I were to get a bottle of the Chanel Les Exclusifs, Sycomore EdT would have been my first pick. I have no idea what the EdP smells like, though.
And I have ammo cases for quite a few of my perfume samples!
What cheapies did you pick up?
My TJMaxx had a bunch of Banana Republic colognes. I had picked up Cypress Cedar a few weeks ago and liked it enough to go back and scoop up Neroli Woods, Black Walnut, Leather Reserve, and Linen Vetiver.
Wearing Serge Lutens Fleurs d’ Oranger today. I may have gassed myself out with my 6+ sprays but my hubby didn’t say anything (so he may have just given up, but he hasn’t sneezed like crazy either)! It may be flying under the radar somehow.
Just had some fresh arugula from the garden (to sample it). Also working on the French radishes that are starting to size up nicely; they are super peppery!
Fresh arugula is so good- especially fresh from the garden! And radishes can be VERY peppery-some can be almost like horseradish!
SOTD Lubin Kismet from a sample – I am of two mind about this – sometimes I love it but today it seems rather blah. I basically spilled half my sample on the back of my hand, so I rubbed it around on my arms and hair, but it just doesn’t smell as delightful as it did to me the last time I wore it. Odd how one’s nose works randomly, some times….
Hot and sunny here in mid-Michigan, putting in the time til 5:00, then going grocery shopping so I can spend all weekend gardening.
I think you smell fantastic, tho agree noses can be fickle.
I have a sample of Kismet a kind NSTer shared with me. I’ve enjoyed it, thank you for the reminder I should give it another go.
Hi all!
1) SOTD: Combo of Champagne Toast body spray by BBW and Wonderland Peony from Floral Street. CT is a delightfully fresh and silly berry/citrus body spray- sweet and candy-ish BUT uplifting at the same time. And I needed that pick me up!
2) Yesterday I stayed in bed all morning. I had an attack of anxiety and despair- triggered by my house looking like a whirlwind. I just been working on so many projects for the home that I just could not take it any more, so under the covers I stayed.
Eventually I got up and I just started cleaning up all the cardboard waste and trash. It’s not so bad once all the trash was picked and everything tidied up as much as possible. I am about 70% done- the Island remains to be bolted into place and countertops measured and bolted into place.
I have Champagne Toast soap and it is very good!
You have tackled in so much and yet you kept going. ? for persisting!
Oh I should pick up the soap- the body spray is very uplifting first thing in the morning, when you need it!
It’s so much! But all I can do is keep going!
Oh, gosh, I’m sorry to hear about your day yesterday. I also have days like that sometimes. It’s great you managed to get a little bit done, and that just doing that lifted you up some. I feel that way about my writing…. some days my writing is so bad, I retreat to bed, and feel an utter failure. I used to tell students, just do SOME writing for SOME amount of time. 15 minutes, 2 hours, whatever. No matter how bad it looks. Then let yourself off the hook for the day. The next day when you go back, you have something to work with. I believe it really works.
You give great advice to your students and I do need to take a little at a time to heart!
sometimes a day under the covers is the answer!
tidying has saved my sanity many times,
hope your anxiety abates as quick as it can.
Sorry about the bad morning, but good for you for getting up eventually!
SOTD = Maison Violet Sketch
… from a sample. This is now tops on my Maison Violet FB purchase. Love love love the spicy vanilla tonka bean patchouli with florals juice!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CP87-EZheSM/?utm_medium=copy_link
I am psyching up myself for going into the office tomorrow. The commute is the most worrisome aspect of this. And pfl67 has been doing it so I will aspire to her level. Wish me luck peeps!
luck luck luck!
With my net position I will be doing commuting again and boy oh boy I do NOT look forward to it.
Wishing you very good luck! ?
Sending commuting & back-to-the-office mojo!
Did you sample Maison Violet’s Nuee Bleue, and if so, what say you?
I just wore it today when I got home and OMG – Love! On paper, it wasn’t much and I wasn’t going to give it another chance. The orris butter material smelled better than the perfume on paper. I am in serious trouble!
best of luck to you! it will be ok, and you’ll be ahead of the curve compared to so many who are still wfh-ing.
???! You can do it!
Be positive everything will be fine. I don’t take my mask off for any reason, except for drinking water and I have something very quick for lunch outside all the time. I also wash my hands continuously while at the office. During the commute or in the field I use sanitizer. We cannot prevent the craziness we have to face during the commute. Just try to relax as much as you can and hope you will be safe. Please, let us know how you did tomorrow.
I am wishing you the best of luck!
Good luck tomorrow!! Fingers crossed that the commute won’t be too bad.
Good luck!
Will be thinking of you tomorrow – good luck!
Fiori di Capri again. Finishing up my original bottle and will need to dig around for the BUB. I guess it is beach, but not sandy beach. More of a rocky beach I think.
AC is working, which means I can do some cleaning without sweating like crazy. I’m also doing laundry and ironing.
so satisfying to empty a bottle, especially knowing there’s a BUB waiting in the wings.
Ah, I can wear this tomorrow, rocy Mediterranean beach, sort of tropic adjacent!
Balenciaga L’essence..nice earthy violet. Beverage of the day, Heavy Melon beer..supposed to be watermelon beer I guess. Unfortunately, it’s a pass for me lol. A little bit too green..I like the scent more than the taste lol. Too much of the watermelon rind for me and has an off aftertaste..like I am getting the seeds too lol. This is not a good one imo lol.
Last week I noticed Trader Joe’s has fun watermelon drinks and snacks for the summer. I didn’t realize it was “a thing” until you mentioned watermelon beer. That’s going a little too far for me, tho I do love melon.
Oh, I really liked the L’Essence! It had a gorgeous bottle too.
I don’t have a perfume on, but accidentally discovered the secret recipe for Skyline chili.
Hey, that’s something! I love Cincinnati chili.
I love it too. The skyline in Ft Lauderdale closed, so I can now make it on my own.
I missed seeing the partial solar eclipse this morning. Just too tired, and I slept thru it. On the plus side, today’s weather is MUCH nicer than yesterday’s humid sogfest. ??
SOTD = back in Passage d’Enfer again today. Time to bring out my light summer-y samples before they turn or evaporate!
You have me beat. I didn’t even know about a partial solar eclipse!
It was visible on the East Coast of the US and Canada right around sunrise. From what I’ve heard, it was spectacular.
I’m wearing Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana cream. I haven’t looked it up, but I am pretty sure it doesn’t smell like Hawaii.
Still hot and gross here!
Hope you get a break from hot and gross weather soon! Supposed to be in the upper 60’s here tomorrow. Crazy.
Hot and gross here too! The weatherman said we’ve been above temps since the beginning of the month. Couldn’t we just ease into June with some nice ‘70’s and low humidity?!
Beachy points for me in Fire Island! So good! Makes me feel like I’m at the beach for sure.
Smelling great Kelly!
Mid-80’s here and humid and one spritz of Messe de Minuit was just perfect.
