Aesop Eremia, Miraceti & Karst ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 7 June 2021 5 Comments

Australian botanical brand Aesop will launch Othertopias, a new trio of unisex fragrances: Erémia, Miraceti and Karst.

“A window into nature, so to speak, one that invites a dialogue with surroundings that we inhabit but often overlook. This collection is about the story of interstitial space; it is a piece of research on Heterotopias. The concept served as scaffolding the development of these perfumes. — perfumer Barnabé Fillion

Erémia ~ a ravaged city overtaken by nature, with citrus and earthy roots (bergamot, yuzu, iris, cardamom, shiso, basil, mimosa, galbanum).

Miraceti ~ a boat drifting on the sea (black pepper, mate, labdanum, ambrette and styrax).

Karst ~ the Mediterranean coastline and waves hitting the rocks (bergamot, cumin, juniper, pink and black pepper, sandalwood).

Aesop Erémia, Miraceti and Karst will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum. Look for them in July.

My friend works at Aesop and she mentioned these to me a few months ago. I don’t think she’s sniffed them yet.

She mentioned they had a weird line name for these that nobody liked and so the marketing had to be retooled. I’ll have to ask her what it was.

All of Aesop’s names seem like anti-marketing to me.

But they do interesting things, and very few lines do.

I agree, they produce perfumes it feels like few others would.

She texted back: “Heterotopia.” I get what they were going for with that phrase but does seem like it would court controversy.

Heterotopia/Othertopia ? They didn’t think too hard about the new name – just swapped the Greek ‘hetero’ for the exact English translation ‘other’ ! I’m sure the marketing department still took a few months to come up with that solution !

Got to smell Eremia today courtesy of a very nice sales lady and it smells very similar to Tom Ford Vert d’Encens for me
