It's Summer Vacation Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that reminds you of a favorite vacation, that fits an upcoming vacation, or that would work for a vacation you wish you could take. (If it's winter where you are, adjust accordingly.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with a scent that would fit the images of camping in the American West that I've posted for the last few days: Ineke Idyllwild. (I am not really a camper, but I do love road trips out West.)
Reminder: on 6/4 we're doing With A Little Help from My Friends...wear a perfume that you received from someone else, either here at Now Smell This or elsewhere, or that you never would have tried if someone else hadn't recommended it, or worn it, or reviewed it. Adapted from a suggestion by Jalapeno.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

You smell great!
Thank you Sandman!
Good morning and tgif!
I am wearing Bobbi Brown’s Beach. My vacation is Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. I am enjoying the sun, scuba diving swimming with the fishes and hoping to see the magnificent manta rays!
You went old school! And I will happily join you on that vacation.
I am wearing a scent for a place I never got to:Gallivant Tel Aviv.
I would think we will see more Gallivant today? We’ll see.
Yay Friday! I went with AG Le Chevrefeuille, one of my happiest summer go-tos. I’ll get to see my long-distance sweetie after work today, after three months apart. We were supposed to spend the whole weekend together but unexpected circumstances cut that down to just one night. What, oh what, shall I wear this afternoon? Keep the summer-gladness theme going with more Chevrefeuille? Go low and growly with Sous le Vent? Channel the brief-love-affair backstory of Seville a l’Aube? Overwhelm the poor man with Carnal Flower?
Have fun! And you smell fantastic! My vote is for Carnal Flower, wear something that will leave a scent trail after you leave….
Enjoy your date! Perhaps something very subtle? Just a whisper of fragrance, but make it something authentic to you. Something you wear often.
Ha, I was going to say wear them all since she has to fit everything into one day 😉
Ha ha — good point!
I second Robin’s thought! Wishing you a wonderful visit! ?
Yay for seeing your sweetie!
Oh, I vote for Sous le Vent because it’s just so beautiful. Completely envious that you have more than the half-ml left in my little vial.
I stockpiled like mad when it was discontinued! It’s *the* desert-island fragrance in my life.
Low and growly is the way. I like the FM, but it can be too much.
On our first date, I left a trail of Fendi all over my then date/now husband’s sweater.
He said he was thinking about me all week because of my perfume.
I didn’t wear a lot, but Fendi is tenacious!
The original Fendi was so great.
Oooh, whatever you choose will be perfect. Have a great time!
How exciting! I vote for Carnal Flower too, for the lingering scent trail. Have a wonderful time!
I’m wearing Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete. Spicy carnation, sultry ylang, creamy vanilla, three things I love: it’s summertime in a bottle, and it makes me so happy.
Yep, that was on my short list for today!
I’m wearing one of my favorites of the Hermes Jardin series, Un Jardin Sur Le Toit. I wouldn’t mind visiting France, but this evokes Paris, and I’ve never really been a fan of big cities. If I went to France, I’d rather go to Normandy, or Alsace, or Provence.
I’m not a fan of big cities at all, but I *am* a fan of Paris. I think all the good food offsets the urban challenges to my hyper-sensitive-woodland-creature senses.
Paris is wonderful, but so is Provence! ❤️
Happy Friday! SOTD is Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess layered over Hermes Jardin Sur la Nil lotion. This comes very close to a perfume I wore when I lived in FL back in the 1990’s (the name escapes me now).
After a week of working hard and working out every day, I’m looking forward to sipping a favorite cocktail, an English Mule, made with spicy ginger beer (Fentimens is my favorite) – recipe is 2 ounces each of gin and fresh squeezed lime juice, 4 ounces of ginger beer, served on the rocks. I like to add lime twist to give it more *punch*.
Headed to the gym, see everyone later! 😀
Thanks for the cocktail suggestion. My youngest has challenged me to 3 weeks without alcohol. We’ll see how it goes!
You’re welcome! 🙂 It’s not a bad challenge! I did dry January, my sleep and mood improved and I lost a few lbs….
I am getting serious about improving my fitness, cocktails derail my progress. I’ll still have a cocktail on the weekend, but nothing during the week.
Sadly cocktails are calorie bombs. But nothing beats a bunch of girlfriends having cocktails. Something about its sweet frivolity must appeal to our inner girly girls.
This I contemplated, but is was too cold for it.
Oops, my comment got misplaced. But I like a Americano, 1 part Campari, 2 parts white wine and topped up with seltzer
That sounds yummy! I have Averna Amaro – that’ll work!
Oooh that’s a great drink choice! Enjoy the workout and the reward!
That cocktail sounds delicious.
Yum! That’s a great cocktail for the end of a hardworking week.
Both the cocktail and the fragrance are wonderful! I dug out my Bronze Goddess and put it on my current-rotation tray for the season this morning.
May I come over for an English Mule?
Come on over! Bring the cute fluffy-pup too!
For snax, I have goat cheese brie, fig preserves, blue cheese and other goodies. 😀
It sounds delish! We are on the way!??
I will make a special low cal margarita. Just booze and passion fruit juice with no sugar.
I chose “The Smell of Weather Turning” for a vacation I WISH I could take, namely one that takes me back to Britain, or perhaps even more specifically, Scotland.
I know that in theory such a trip should still be possible. In practice, however, Brexit seems to have made everything so much harder, which, being both a committed anglophile and an ardent pro-European, I must confess does hurt quite a bit.
I feel you… I have British family and growing up it always seemed to be a magical place. The adult realities of geopolitics certainly take away from that. And the longer I go without visiting the harder it is to remember. It’s been seven years, the longest stretch in my life without a trip there.
Heading to the French Polynesia with L’Artisan Un Air de Bretagne.
Happy Friday, everyone! ?
Mmmmmm lovely
?
This sounds wonderful! How did I miss this one?? P67, what’s the staying power like?
It has a good staying power and very nice sillage. I love it! I can send you some if you would like to try it ?.
It’s raining here today so I layered two testers – Cartier Zeste de Soleil with Hermes Eau de Mandarine ambrée. Not bad, but I think I need to find a brighter citrus next time.
I miss my family in Hawaii and my mom made a Lilikoi chiffon pie the other day so I wanted the passionfruit note.
Googled your pie and it sounds good!
Wearing Cartier Zeste de Soleil on one arm and AA Limon Verde on the other. Cornering the citrus market…
Not participating in the CP today since it’s cold and wet where I live. Spent some time in Tobacco Vanille and now in Coco Mademoiselle Intense.
Cold and wet here too, all day, and looks like possibly all weekend!
Great choice, Robin! I almost well foresty but chose Essential Parfums Nice Bergamot instead. It’s nice but long gone, so I just spritzed on some Eau The Verte.
TGIF in a major way.
TGIF indeed!
3rd! Although weather not cooperating here.
I’m wearing Bronze Goddess because I’d really like to be on a beach right now.
I am visualizing my favorite beach spot right now. Beach access #5, on Siesta key.
I’ll go with the Into the Wild inspiration of Goutal’s Nuit Etoilee. The EDP is too polished and sophisticated to really tie in with the movie, but I’ll use what I can get.
You smell great! And it would work with today’s image too.
I’ve loved the photos you posted this week, Robin! Thank you for the virtual Western vacation.
Reverse CP: after a week of HOT summer weather today dawned unexpectedly cold and rainy. Wearing Musc Ravageur and layers!
The work I was hired for in February was pushed back another 8 weeks due to the pandemic, and I just found out will also take a full month’s hiatus from preparations soon.
Disappointing on one hand, BUT, I can go home to Mr. Teebear and the kitties for that month, and participate in a film project that was just proposed to me. So the silver lining has materialized!
Hope everyone’s Friday brings something good to look forward to.
Yay for silver linings and being home with those you love – You smell fabulous!
It’s great that you can unexpectedly go home. You smell amazing.
Yay for silver linings! And Mr. TB will enjoy seeing you!
And all of those photos were from govt agencies. You can really spend some decent time looking at Bureau of Land Management photos…
So glad there is a silver lining to the lost work.
Yay for silver linings! 🙂
Trying two from Dusita today: Le Sillage Blanc and Erawan.
Happy Friday!
Do report back on erawan!
I got herbal, green tea in the opening and then sweet hay, patchouli and a wee bit of vanilla in the drydown.
Tea isn’t a listed as an official note as far as I can tell but many comment on sniffing it on Fragrantica too. It’s nicely done but note my cup of tea. Pun intended. 🙂
Good pun!
11 hours sleep
Holiday
Payday
Botox day
Resigned this week
New project with company of many fragrances starts in two weeks
8 not 18 hours a day
Trip to target after Botox
Such excitement
SOTD will be le labo hinoki body cream from neck to toes.
How exciting! Please send dispatches from “company of many fragrances” – such a great name for a company 😆
Hooray for so many exciting things!
Everything is perfect!
Congrats on all your ‘excitement.’ Wonderful news!
Wow, great new abounds!
Ohhh, congrats all around! Enjoy the new job!
That sounds like the day from heaven!!!
Yay Botox! I went to a new place and it kicked in like a mule on day two. I look like a teen!
How great is that!
Sounds wonderful — all of it! Please share updates!
Wow, what a happy list!
If I could sleep for 11 hours I wouldn’t need Botox! LOL.
I’ve been in Carner Barcelona D600 today, on this lazy day full of occasional rain. Gosh how I hate a weather like this.
I’m excited for Tuesday when my real vacation will start.
You smell nice. I should pull this one for a wear!
I haven’t vacationed in summertime for quite a while – my habit had been to wait until mid-September when kids were back in school and hotel prices came down a little. But I’m taking a stab at a quasi-imaginary early summer vacation in the southern San Juan Island region where myrtle and magnolia trees grow almost wild. SOTD is FM Eau de Magnolia.
You smell great and I hope you can make it to the San Juans. It’s such a beautiful, peaceful place.
Thank you, and me too. It always seems to be so much easier to relax and breathe as soon as we get onto one of those islands.
We are not-summer travelers, too. Most of our long driving vacations have been done in the fall. Less crowded, and cooler weather for Southwest / desert trips.
We’ve also found that the first week of December is a great travel week for avoiding crowds, and getting some bargains too.
I love a good road trip! Not necessarily in December, although I’d bet parts of the desert are gorgeous in winter.
The San Juan Islands are AWESOME- and Friday Harbor & Whitbey are my favorites!
We haven’t seen much of Friday Harbor (it’s on the list!), but Coupeville and Freeland on Whidbey Island are big favorites. We like Langley too, but it’s a little touristy – great restaurants there.
Love that starry night photo! I’m wearing Tihota layered with Fêtes Persanes and dreaming of camping trips.
I would prefer it with a trailer van personally (or, I mean I would prefer to be sleeping in the van) but it does look appealing, doesn’t it?
Yes, I prefer the comfort of our camper to a tent as well!
Plus, harder for bears to get in 🙂
I’m in Bukhara today, for a virtual trip to the Silk Road.
The only upcoming trip I have planned is camping in Lassen national park later this summer.
Happy friday, everyone!
Bukhara is so good and you smell great!
Thank you! Bakhara is my favorite of the Gallivants.
On the strength of this conversation, I just ordered this I sniffed from LuckyScent. I am always up for a trip to the Silk Road…
SOTD is Chanel Paris-Edimbourg which is quite nice indeed. Another hit in the Eaux series. I plan to make the decants of this from the splitmeet this weekend. Which reminds me — AnniePerfumes, you haven’t contacted me about your split — do let me know if you’re still interested.
The house painters did show up, finally! Yesterday was power washing and nail-banging-in. Today the windows are getting covered and priming begins. Overall my cat does not approve, he is either hiding or running around with saucer eyes.
I was sorry to miss out on this split — the Paris-Edimbourg sounds right up my alley! I’ll bet you smell wonderful. Hope the house painting goes quickly and your cat gets some peace! 🙂
Aww, poor kitty! The noises must be driving him nuts!
“Saucer eyes” – poor kitty witty is on high alert!
Hi, Pixel,
I received your emails that the bottle arrived yesterday you needed my address. I paid a bit ago and sent my address.
I am sincerely sorry to have you by not responding when you sent your communication yesterday.
You need to email me first to get the payment info. I use a different email address for PayPal. BTW I think you’ve got the gmail address wrong anyway, I didn’t get any notification about your payment to that address either. Try emc . 7 1 1 7 (no spaces)
Will do, right now.
No offense intended.
Just paid again. Can we email about this?
Please do send me email. emc . 7 1 1 7 at gmail
Awww, poor baby. SmokeyToes is sending comforting thoughts to you all.
Happy Friday!
Sotd is Nuit de Bakelite which is finally a Tuberose that Mr. Allo loves. When I told him I planned to split it for the meet he surprised me by saying “Oh, not too much!” Wonders never cease.
Speaking of the splits and swaps and freebies – I am so grateful for this community and the chance to meet such incredible people through our shared love of perfume. Today I connected with an NSTer who is also a therapist and it’s so fun to share perfume and more.
Re: Vacation – I would go to the San Juan Islands every year if I could. We will be there for 2 weeks in July and I can’t wait. We are lucky to have a friend on Lopez Island and we swap houses with her.
Lovely choice! I have only tried a sample of this one but it made me unaccountably happy. I have limited tuberose experience but it seems very different to me, a bit green and raw or something.
“Green and raw” is a great description.
And it might be shameless of me to add but I am splitting a bottle of Nuit de Bakelite in the splitmeet if you are interested.
Oh no, I really appreciate that! ? I revisited my sample today, and while I love the first couple hours, there is something unsettling to me in the drydown. I wonder if it will grow on me, but for now I am hesitant to buy more…
4160Tuesdays What I did on my holidays, and I am imagining a weekend at the English seaside. It’s such a fun scent with its mint and candy note.
I finally got on my bike again and biked the whole 22km to work and back. I did it slowly, because I am not allowed to work out too much after my covid-19 infection. But it was great to be out again and the ebike made it easier.
That’s great that you were able to cycle again!
Oh, I am so happy that you are better! And good steady activity can be very invigorating for the body and soul!
Three cheers to your return to health and activity!
Glad you’re healthy enough to bike the king distance! Slow and steady wins the race.
Good for you and your recovery!
Yay for getting your wheels back! I’m sure it’ll help you feel stronger each time you can get out for a ride too.
Yay for getting back on the bike! I plan to do the same next werk, really looking forward to it.
I’m in Gardenia Batik today since this and Manguier Metisse were mostly what I wore when I was in Hawaii earlier this year, although I didn’t wear much perfume – my pale skin needed a lot of sunscreen!
Oh, sweet dear Hawai’i.
One day- soon!
Friday!
1) SOTD: Am in Kai Perfume oil. It’s so good – it radiates beautifully and subtly. On a grey day like today , it’s a perfect pick me up!
2) KITCHEN UPDATE: I sanded down the concrete from the previous day, and flooring was placed over that. Flooring has been laid down in the places where the original builders cabinets to level everything. 3 wall cabinets have been built and 1 more needs to be done; then we will arrange those along with the stove so I can get an idea of size for the butcher block countertop. The back wall will be cleaned and prepped for tiling. I am posting chaotic pictures on my Instagram!
3) Am gonna send in an application for the Federal Government as an IT analyst. This is a practice run for job applications in July!
Saw the in-progress pics! Is there a sink on the island (is it an island?)?
That’s the old island, which does have all the plumbing! I fixed the leak under there and add flooring. What is happening is that the wall cabinets are being done first, THEN the island will pulled apart and the new cabinets and panels placed there.
I do like Kai! And perfect thing to wear while your kitchen is in chaos.
It’s 46 degrees and windy here. It’s so cold in my house, but I am not turning the heat back on! I’m wearing my jacket, sitting around waiting to go to work. I’m wearing Clean Ultimate Beach Day, which smells similar to Bobbi Brown Beach and reminds me of the 80’s.
You are sending me your cold weather. We will be in the low 50’s here this weekend with rain. I hope this is the way winter is finally saying goodbye to us!
The other day, I finally moved my snow brush from the backseat and put it in the trunk. I feel like winter is just laughing at me now.
LOL!
Yup, cold here, too. My heat went on during the night. Hard to believe just a few days ago temps were in the mid/80’s and I was complaining about the heat and humidity!
My reply ended up in the wrong place.
We have the same weather. You’re tougher than I am, I broke down and turned the heat on this afternoon just to take the dampness out of the air.
It was 37°F today and briefly sleeting this morning where I am before turning into a wretched day of rain! If I could turn up my heat I would, but the apartment building temp is regulated externally, so like you I was/am huddled in layers today.
Bravo for still going for a beach scent! I didn’t have the mental fortitude ?
I am in Mohur… Wow. I have sit down before I collapse… This is how GOR GE OUS Mohur is. Recently I watched a video with Neela and she said her fragrances are of top quality. Agreed. At first spritz Mohur smells like… Spiced powdered rose. However, it has zero of an “old ladyish” feel. As the fragrance grows I begin to smell… Just a dewy, fresh cut rose. Very realistic if that. Well I am completely smitten and knocked off my feet. I should try the Extrait version as well!!
You smell wonderful! ?
Thank You!!
I had a feeling you’d like Mohur. Yay for fragrance discovery success!
I have fond memories of early morning walks wearing Koala during my last trip, so I went with that today.
Happy Friday everyone! I am happy to be finishing out this grueling week of late shifts.
I hope you have a restorative weekend ahead of you, along with a much more manageable work schedule in the weeks to come!
Thank you! Doesn’t look like I’ll have a super consistent schedule anytime soon….but at least I’m not coming in on weekends.
I’m in Osmanthe Yunnan for a tea-tasting vacation. The owner of my favorite tea shop travelled all over the world meeting tea growers and tasting their products before opening the shop. I know she was doing it for work and that I am romanticizing it, but to me that sounds like a magnificent vacation!
Alternating between her French Gray and Cloud & Mist tea today.
You smell lovely! And the teas sound delicious.
Great pick, and agree — that sounds like so much fun.
My yoga teacher’s mantra this morning was Embrace Where You Are. Where I Am today is not where I planned: I thought I’d be in EA vintage Blue Grass (created to celebrate the scent of the grassy pasture where Elizabeth Arden bred her beloved thoroughbred horses) and reminiscing about the many wonderful camping adventures we’ve had throughout the beautiful state of Kentucky. Fantastic state parks and state resort parks as well as natural beauty!
But today’s wind, rain and very cold temps here – a high of 49 degrees! – made me long for a warm and comforting scent rather than a floral and green one. So my hand reached for my favorite Dior Dune, which reminds me much more of the often-chilly, rocky Atlantic seacoast than it does desert dunes, and many wonderful trips while my son was in college there. Today I’m thinking of a favorite trip to Assateague Island National Seashore: camping with the wild ponies, the scent and sound of the ocean just a short distance from the dune separating us from the sandy shore and our campsite, the wild roses blooming profusely everywhere, the night-blooming blossoms of the tiny evening primrose plants almost invisible during the day, and the incredible experience (because of the narrowness of the island) of enjoying both a beautiful sunrise and sunset without moving from our campsite. One of our most memorable trips, I highly recommend, and easily accessible if you’re near the coast of Maryland or Virginia. https://www.assateagueisland.com/index.htm
One of my rugosa roses, very similar to the wild beach roses at Assateague, has just begun to bloom. They are very fragrant and help to rekindle those warm memories of that special place this weekend, even though we’ll be spending it at home. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead, however you spend it!
The beach roses are my favorite part of Dune, and the broom. I’ve seen many reviews describing Dune as bleak and austere but it conjures up pictures of Lake Michigan dunes for me. Have a great weekend!
Yes, I can see Lake Michigan dunes, too, as an alternative view of the scent. I just don’t see it as desert.
Your trip sounds right up my alley, Laila. I’m wearing Equistrius, which was named for a racehorse.
Love your gravitar and your scent sounds perfect!
That sounds like an amazing landscape. I would love to spend more time getting to know the Atlantic coast.
So many beautiful places there and the early history of our country in the communities along the way.
Such a lovely image! You smell wonderful.
Thank you!
My folks took me to Chincoteague when I was a child. I was really into reading Marguerite Henry’s books at the time, so to be somewhere that she’d set some books was exciting for me. We visited Assateague, and saw the wild ponies. On Chincoteague, we went to a stable that had Misty of Chincoteague’s descendants. Stormy was elderly, but still alive at the time. Misty had been stuffed.
Most of my other visits to the Atlantic shore have been to Point Pleasant, NJ, and to Bethany Beach in Delaware. I’ve mentioned before how I also like the fragrance of rugosa roses. I got three rooted cuttings in one of my mail order gardening shipments this spring, with the claims that they’d make a wonderful big hedge. One of the cuttings has sprouted leaves now, so in a year or two I may be enjoying the clove scent of the flowers.
Your stories brought back a lot of memories for me, pleasant ones. 😀
Yes, Misty of Chincoteague! I have and ❤️ that book. Thank you for sharing your memories of that special place; I’ve never met anyone else who’s been there so I really enjoyed your reminiscing! And good luck with the new rugosas; not a good cutting flower but one to stick my nose in and inhale deeply of their rich fragrance. Mine are just out in front right next to our driveway so I get to inhale deeply frequently!
Keep warm, you must smell pretty, I like Clean, the Reserve line especially, although I don’t know your perfume, it sounds great for the CP.
I’m wearing Teatro alla Scala for a vacation to Italy, I would go to the opera of course.
What a lovely perfume, although I once over-sprayed it before going to the Symphony. ?
Thank you, oh no, I can imagine the over-spraying as with even two sprays it’s a very opulent perfume, like most of the Krizias now that I think of it.
I am going on vacation next week, and I think Infusion d’Iris Absolu will work just fine both now and when I’m there. Usually I bring samples on vacation but this time, because I have both a decant and a full bottle of Absolu, I’ll probably bring the decant.
Foxbins where are you going?
Hawaii!
Oh yay! (And sorry if I missed that, my brain is a jumble.)
Is this where you bought your vacation place?
In love extreme
Blue Lagoon, Ölüdeniz, Turkey
I am eating Turkish delight while some guy fans me on a beautiful beach, someone else rubs by feet, and I am sipping a cocktail made with rose syrup and some other hard liquor.
Please may I join you? Sounds like heaven on earth…
YES to all of this!!!
There’s some imagination. 😀 Very nice. I love the word-pictures. 🙂
SOTD: Organza Indecence.
Going to Aruba and wearing my honeymoon scent.
Thanks for all of the warm wishes and kindness sent for my dog and myself on Wednesday. She made it through, thank God. I’ve been monitoring her 24/7, because her heart is a big concern. I am so very grateful my girl is here and I didn’t lose her. Bringing her in every 2 or 3 days for bandage changing.
Oh, I’m so happy to hear she made pulled through. I hope you both have a restive weekend!
Thank you! She’s so sweet.
Yay! I’m glad she fared well and I hope there’s lots of peace and calm ahead for both of you!
Thank you, Isabella. Peace and calm will be very welcome.
Oh, biggest hugs to you and chin scritches to your pup!
Thank you, sistine. I’ll grab that hug and keep smothering her.?
I missed the Wednesday post but just wanted to send healing vibes to your sweet ? and a ? your way.
Laila, that is so kind. I’ll take every hug. Maybe two. Hoping she feels like her old self again.
Thank you.
Such wonderful news! May she have a speedy andcomplete healing.
Thanks, cazaubon. Speedy and complete is perfect. Trying to keep those bandages dry!
Thank you all for your warm anniversary wishes earlier this week. What a lovely community you’ve built, Robin!
Wearing Wazamba because of the chill and damp today. It’s a good day to dream about a beach vacation 🙂
I think I missed it. Happy Anniversary!
Wazambaaaaaaaa
You smell great!
Seriously, you guys built it! And happy anniversary 🙂
Happy belated!
Belated Happy Anniversary wishes!??
Happy anniversary, you smell great!
I’m visiting my mother for a few days, and have brought just a few travel sprays with me. I’ve got Neroli Outrenoir, which would remind of Paris, but I’m actually in the mood for Tobacco Vanille. It’s a cold wet day, and I need something warming 🙂
Hope you are having a nice visit Gaynor!
I would like a vacation anywhere. I could a little bottle of Florentina. Satisfied the urge for purple powder.
But seriously, you wouldn’t take any one place over another?
Can I go to Oklahoma? I’ve never been there before and it seems almost unreal to me. I’ll wear some lady Stetson.
Perfect!
It’s 84 degrees and mostly sunny here. There are actually some soft nice breezes which we welcome as a “cool front.” I’m sorry it sounds like so many of you are still facing cold wet weather. We treasure these final days of moderate weather here.
I’m being very very lazy and not doing much now after having gotten up on the early side to take two kittens to the vet. That turned into one kitten because the other one turned into a monster and screamed bloody murder and clawed and fought and spat. Ugh. So then after dropping off the first kitten at the vet I came home and launched a surprise attack on the monster kitten, grabbing her with two big towels and just shoving her down into a gigantic carrier. Whew. Then the vet had to tell me how good the kittens had been when they got their vaccinations! Of course she also said how cute they were. They then screamed and shrieked and moaned all the way home. Yikes. I needed a drink already after that morning!
I have almost no plans for this weekend which is fine by me. My scent is MFK Oud Satin Mood. It’s the fragrance of a relaxing massage at a beautiful spa. I’m picturing it somewhere in a grand Victorian hotel like the one in Banff…. the kind of vacation where you are spoiled, dress well, soak in a heated pool, enjoy some shopping, and eat delicious food, being a general blob so as to just let your worries and stresses go.
Oof. I’m sorry the kittens were such monsters! I didn’t get a chance to comment earlier this week, but I’m so glad you weren’t injured when your ceiling collapsed, and sorry to hear you need a shoulder replacement. I hope you’re not too uncomfortable!
Thank you very much! The roofer I called who promised to come yesterday afternoon never showed. Now I’ve got to try to chase him down. At least it’s not raining more today! Yes, my arm is extremely painful and quite feeble. I’m trying to do nothing to use energy or make it worse. I just have to hang in there.
You are so good to be fostering. Your idea of a vacation sounds bery relaxing.
That would be very and not bery.
Calypso, you deserve that spa vacation!
You have definitely earned a spa vacation!!! Sorry you’re dealing with so much and wailing fussy vet visits are never fun. Glad it’s over and you got them both there and back at least!!!
SOTD = Chanel No.5 L’Eau
I sprayed from the gorgeous red bottle! At some point, when I am back on the vacation mode, I will bring the mini travel spray! I will not be traveling anytime soon though and probably no cruises ever again. Well, if I do go on a cruise, I will spend the bigger bucks to get a stateroom with a balcony.

I had the day off and went to Costco. The mask required signs were gone, but, only a very small portion of the shoppers were maskless. Most of the employees were masked as well. I got to talking to one of the employees and I asked if they were required to wear a mask and she said no; however, to go maskless, you have to sign some kind of attestation. If you are found to have lied about being vaccinated, you will be terminated. I have many questions as to how the employer will know without a shadow of a doubt that someone is fully vaccinated and I cannot think of a legally defensible way to do it without causing all sorts of issues. She volunteered that she was fully vaccinated but is still wearing a mask because she anticipates close interaction with the public and there is just no way of knowing one’s status.
Tomorrow, the family is getting together for lunch! We are having Vietnamese takeout from the same place where the cousins (dad’s side of the family) got together in January 2020 for the last time pre-COVID. We haven’t set a date yet for a cousins’ re-gathering although I anticipate it may be in late 2021, if at all.
I was also going to mention that I posted another split, this time for Ambre Sultan. It’s at the bottom of the SplitMeet thread. Thanks!
https://nstperfume.com/2021/05/22/the-splitmeet-episode-15/#comments
I’ve been in two stores, yesterday and today, that posted big signs in their windows, “Fully vaccinated customers and associates no longer need to wear masks.” I went massless in the one yesterday but felt quite naked and afraid other people would hate me–it was about half and half. Then for the PetSmart today I just put on a mask and wore it–it’s my comfort zone. Trader Joe’s here is still requiring them. who knows? It all seems rather random and confusing.
Today was the first day that Gov. Murphy lifted most of the mask mandates and it’s possible that some people think it actually starts tomorrow. That said, I am collecting intelligence on which stores continue to require it although the Yess could change to No at any time. God forbid the Nos revert to Yes!
Costco – No
Wegmans – No
Korean store – Yes
Home Goods – Yes
My boss said today that we are waiting for our competitors to go first, then we will follow.
Sounds like a game of chicken…
Whole Foods yesterday (my very first full in-person grocery shop since March 2020!! it was very weird) was about 85% masked.
I am going tomorrow and will gauge. It was < 5% unmasked at Costco and Wegmans.
I went with Chanel’s Paris-Venise, one of Les Eaux, because our last real summer trip was to Italy in 2019, and we were able to visit Venice for the first time. I fantasize about going back some day! I’m enjoying Paris-Venise very much, though I think the decant I have will be enough for me.
P.S. And I’d love to return to Paris, which I haven’t visited in decades. We were supposed to go last summer to celebrate several family milestones like graduations, big anniversary, etc., but alas! COVID intervened. Some day …
I would love to go back to Venice too. And I have still never been to Rome! Or Madrid, or Budapest, or Copenhagen. I need to get busy.
I’ve been to Rome and Madrid (both wonderful!) but not to Budapest or Copenhagen. I need to get busy too! It’s long past time for me to go see the great American West, as in the national parks. And I want to return to Greece and Normandy/Brittany, and and and … So many places, so little time!
We all need more vacation!
I’m wearing from my very limited supply of Aedes Pélargonium today. Unintentional, but there are lovely geraniums AND evergreen trees at my extended family’s beach house in Oregon, so I’ll claim that as my imagined vacation. 😀
They sound heavenly — the fragrance and the beach house!
Indeed, a “thin place” for me.
I’m in Chanel Biarritz from a new bottle.? I’ve never gotten a shipment from Chanel before and I have to say I felt pretty fancy.
TGIF, although today is my Thursday, lol. Then a 4 day holiday weekend.?
Ha ha — the one time I ordered from Chanel I felt like I’d somehow been admitted into a posh-person-only space. I kept the box to store loose ends in so that everyone else would know how posh I am in spite of my hair and jeans and muddy boots!
I kept the box that Chanel used to send me my bottle of Beige – it now holds perfume samples and sentimental correspondence!
I’m wearing Mojave Ghost as a tribute to the vacation that I actually booked for July! We’re going to Vegas. I love the desert, and my husband loves casinos and pools. We’ve been to Vegas in July before, and it’s hot but we can deal. I can’t wait to do some sniffing!
As a teacher, I never get to travel in September or early December or in the off season. It’s a sore point because my family keeps planning vacations in February or October that I cannot join them on without quitting my job and then they get salty because I never vacation with them.
Good for you for booking the trip.
As to your family, I’m sure you love them but seriously, do they think you can just pick up and go on vacation at any time?
What fun, I bet you are both looking forward to it!
Yay for vacay! Enjoy Vegas!
Enjoy! The perfume shopping is good in Vegas. 🙂
Yay for vacation!
Former teacher and yes, people assumed I could have just taken time. Crazy.
