It's Almost-Friday, Josephine Baker Day and World Bee Day. Happy 75th to Cher! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Lush 25:43. No cp points for me, but I do smell fantastic.
Reminder: 5/21 is World Meditation Day. Wear whatever you think fits the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning nsters
Since a Paris Edimbourg bottle showed up yesterday and the day is cool with fog, the unwrapping will commence right after my shower.
Ooh, do report back!
I shall!
okay- thoughts on Paris Edimbourg.
tis beautiful. like the other eaux it’s light. But it’s not as summery as the others. It opens brightly with juniper and just weaves a lovely blend of cypress and vetiver. I feel enveloped.
Can still smell 8 hours in. Great for all year, and great for men/women. I love it and yeah glad I bought. Le Lion and this one have been a good year for me w/Chanel. Bring on the body lotion!
Betcha this sold 10 more bottles 😉
I’m in Joy from a decant I received in a swap many swapmeets ago. This is my first time wearing it and it has really suffered from evaporation. It doesn’t really feel like me so after my shower I think I’ll switch to something that does.
I slept like a rock last night! And dreamt about jeans. Apparently the search for the perfect pair haunts my subconscious. lol
On my to do list today is writing thank you notes to my professors. Not even really sure if that is a thing, but it feels like the right thing to do. I love a hand written thank you note.
Oh wow, what a never ending search for the perfect pair of jeans! We all will join you on that search….
Please believe me when I say, thank you notes from students are always appreciated. I’ve received a few and it’s always heart warming. 🙂
Many moons ago as a teaching assistant I got a lovely note from student I had given tons of help, and was so chuffed! I say do it.
I occasionally get handwritten notes from students, and it’s so appreciated. If you are feeling the urge, do it — I bet it will make their entire semester.
I have a Happy Tub. It contains all of my yearbooks, handwritten letters, cards, scrapbooks, little notes, pictures and miscellaneous touching memories. I go through it and this many years later, these moments…
I’ve probably shredded my degree by now, lol.
Unexpected handwritten TY notes are the best. My mom has one from a former student (she had him in elementary school, he wrote the note when he was an adult) thanking her for helping him through a rough year as a kid. I know it means a lot to her.
In addition to jeans, I am also always on the hunt for the perfect pair of leggings.
I wear leggings every day of my life. If Vera Wang could build a fashion empire wearing leggings every single day, okay then.
From 8 dollar cotton to cashmere, I have dozens of leggings rolled in baskets ready to pull on.
Love handwritten notes and LOLing about your dream about jeans.
Last night I watched the Pasolini film Teorema so obviously today I had to wear Fendi Theorema. It’s so wonderful: I still can’t imagine why they would discontinue it.
I can’t believe Fendi discontinued Theorema either because it’s so fabulous.
It’s so true, why discontinue something so absolutely beautiful! And well loved!
Wearing Providence Perfume Co. Irisqué ?.
Struggling very hard to keep my eyes open. Coffee with a dash of cinnamon and chili powder to the rescue. I hope it kicks in fast.
Another busy day, which will end with a dental appointment late this afternoon.
This has been a very long week, so I am glad is almost Friday!
Happy Thursday, everyone! ?
I know I’m probably the one one sorry that it’s almost Friday…I hope your time goes quickly and mine goes slowly 🙂
I would feel the same if I were at the beach! I hope your time goes as slowly as possible! ⛱
We are twins today!
Yay! ?
Good luck at the dentist!
Thank you, dear! ?
Fingers crossed for a good checkup at the dentist! ??
Thank you Jalapeno! It wasn’t so bad. Cleaning went fine and next week I will have the root canal that couldn’t be done last year, due to the pandemic. That’s all for this year.
One root canal is a year is quite enough!
CRAP. That should be “…IN a year…”
Happy Thursday! I am going to have to try cinnamon and chili in coffee!
It is delish! I hope you like it! ☕
Commando but maybe some Zoologist Bee for Bee Day ?. 🙂
I saw a Hummingbird Moth which fascinated me..I thought for sure it was a hummingbird but it didn’t quite seem like 100 percent bird..then I found out why. Cause it wasn’t. But they are so close in appearance and character.
We had one in our garden last year… set off the real hummingbirds and they chased it off. Very striking appearance.
SotD Rose Ikebana
Too late for my wearing Bee… I should have logged into NST first before I showered and wore something else…
I saw some of these in – I think – Cordoba. Absolutely fascinating and otherworldly.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen a Hummingbird Moth.
I had one a few years back and was also totally fascinated!
Was up at 7:30 this morning and didn’t need to be up until an hour later. Trying to take care of a couple chores before showering and currently in no 5 eau Premiere. Getting into the shower in a few minutes. Was thinking of a dab of Deneuve before work.
You smelled great all day!
Wearing OJ Frangipani to try and summon the sun back, but it looks like rain today. Not that I’m likely to notice regardless, with my cold windowless office.
I’m ready for the weekend. ?
I’ll take some of your rain. Pollen counts have been crazy high here lately. And there were couple of forest fires earlier this week.
I’m sorry about the rain and windowless office. You do smell so bright and amazing though.
Good morning all, in honor of World Bee Day, my SOTD is De Ma Mere by Shelley Kyle. It has a beautiful linden, amber, honey, and beeswax note. I don’t wear it often, but it’s glorious.
Taking the day off, headed out for breakfast with Mr. SmokeyToes and the dentist later. As last week, I will try to make all 22 flights of stairs.
🙂
Hope that your dentist appointment (and the stair climb) went well today!
Ohhh, just got home. Three hours in the chair and my entire head hurts. Fortunately, most of the work (two cavities and removing a crown) was completed today. The next visit is the perm. crown and I’m done.
I’ve decided the hell with the diet and I’m having ice cream for dinner.
Argh. Ice cream for dinner sounds completely reasonable to me after all that.
Agree. And maybe a little rum.
If I’d know it was World Bee Day, I would have worn something with honey. As it is, I’m wearing a favorite, Safran Troublant.
Sacrament Troublant is beautiful. You smell amazing.
I am wearing Sel Marin. If I had seen this post before dressing, I would have gone with Night Flyer (Nee Bat) with its banana note for Josephine Baker.
TF Lavender Extreme for me today. It’s not exactly meditative, but I do like it quite a bit. Certainly not enough to pay $350, though.
Looking forward to the end of this looooong week!
Can’t figure out for the life of me why the ones with the raunchy names are so much more than already too-expensive private collection.
I can’t either! Several have then been released as travel sprays, so that whole silly “exclusive luxury” factor gets diminished eventually anyway.
I already put on Asian Green Tea – because I was literally craving it. So no CP points for me… And I could have worn Bee instead!!
It is a very rainy day here and I love rain. Even though it is grey and rainy and overcast I was still wanting to wear Asian Green Tea. Oh, and I’ve finally figured out what is that middle note I like so much. It has to be the violet – now it makes sense. Green Asian Tea could have been “another simple green tea fragrance” – even though I love green tea perfumes – but it is much more complex. What it is not for sure – is flat. Done with perfection. The opening bright with citrus and sparkling lemon-green tea note BUT if someone served me a cup of tea that smelled/tasted like the opening of this perfume – it’d be super delicious. That plus it never starts to be a boring scent. I simply love it!!
I do like tea scents too. (You can keep the rain though, ha.)
I’m enjoying Acquasala today 🙂
Oh, very happy Thursday!
Challenges at work so just easing into the morning, enjoying a late breakfast and 2nd coffee. Boy do I love WFH. In some ways so much easier to separate from the yuck of the “office” when not in the office.
SOTD: Gourmand Coquin
I agree about WFH! Although every now and then I miss the social interaction.
Wearing Scherrer EdT today, because I finally got a big bottle of this. Plus some other bottles too. But they were all cheapies, so I only spent a bit above 100 Euro and have new scents to play with.
Wanted to drive to work and got a flat with a nail in it. So I took the day off spontaneously and got a new tire today. Thankfully my car dealer is just 5 minutes by foot away.
Thank goodness it was an easy fix!
Flat tires are such a pain! Glad yours is fixed.
In Drole de Rose today because bees and I like roses 🙂
I like roses too!
You smell great allo!
Thank you!
In Musk Deer and smell divine. My travel sprays arrived yesterday. They came in a beautiful box with a magnet clasp, with the prettiest tissue paper—I wrote to Zoologist and told Victor I’d buy the tissue paper if he sold it! Tried Tyrannosaurus Rex yesterday. Interesting, but I am pretty sure I do not need more than my little sample.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CPEnBPlhSI9/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Also, in other indulgences (of the culinary, not the Catholic kind!), I have begun my day with a cup of coffee and four chocolate covered almonds from Dandelion Chocolates. If that company is new to you, and you are chocolate person, you may want to check out the website. 😉
Ooh, enjoy your Musk Deer! You’re really tempting me to order some Zoologist samples. I really want to try Bee, Hummingbird, and Musk Deer.
Yum! That sounds like a great way to start the day.
I know what you mean about that tissue paper! I have FBs of both TRex and Musk Deer. Very different but I like both!
I love T-Rex in theory but just couldn’t wear it! Anxious to try Musk Deer!
I did as I was told…now I want that Black Sesame Toffee brittle 🙂
Sampling PRIN Mriga today which is an enjoyable foresty musk.
Foresty musk sounds good to me!
Love extreme
Got a compliment yesterday on the sidewalk from a woman behind me. She told me I smell like a fragrant dessert ?
Still not feeling ?, vertigo is good but having constant headaches. I think with temperature increase and pollen , I am feeling groggy. This too shall pass..
A compliment out and about? Sounds almost “back to normal”.
Yes, nyc is very open and coming back to life. Last week I visited two art museums.
There is SO much pollen on all the cars where I live right now. ?
Several years ago I learned that there are more than 400 native bee species found in Pinnacles National Park, which is a tiny place by National Park standards. I’d had no idea bee diversity was so high just in one little corner of California! Since then I’ve paid attention to the native bees in my garden and have noticed how much they adore my native plants, and I’m so happy that I’ve been able to create habitat for them. Wearing Zoologist Bee in their honor, even if this fragrance was designed more with European honey bees in mind.
Sharing in your house choice! Also, love the Pinnacles. When I was a small girl, my best friend’s mum would take us out to the Pinnacles and sign us up for rock climbing lessons. I loved the scents in the air, the rock face, the heat, the views. Everything.
Yay you for making a space for bees in your yard/garden! ????????
I love bees! I mean, not the stings lol, but bees in general! Glad they love your garden.
Sunny windy day for a road trip out to Tofino on the west coast. Wearing Anima Dulcis with a shot of Ummagumma for good measure.
Looks like a lovely drive, and the photo on Wikipedia is exactly the view I want when we finally find our retirement dwelling. Wow – just gorgeous.
Scents of the day are lemon, blueberry, chocolate, sugar, butter, flour. Baking like mad ahead of our first socialization weekend in over a year! Lemon bars are in the oven. Brownies next. Then blueberry coffee cake. Then bread. Mmmmm this house will smell amazing by the end of the day.
Ooh, blueberry coffee cake sounds delicious. I’m going to request that next time one of my baking friends wants to make something (I’m usually the “will take leftovers” volunteer).
I hope your socialization party goes well! Gentle reminder that if you start feeling anxious or nervous, that’s totally okay!
Drooling over here…
Yum! ?
Ummm can I come to your house? Sounds amazing!
Sampling Nishane Hundred Silent Ways today. Sweet, fruity, floral vanilla to my nose.
Spoke to my sister just now and she had her follow up appointment this morning from her pancreas surgery and the very center of the mass was cancer but it wasn’t found in any of the lymph nodes, organs, etc. or anything else removed and the resections were good too…the edges were precancerous when they did the biopsy but they warned the cells might be different within the mass too. The surgeon is very pleased overall as he believes it was well contained and she will get rescanned every 3 months. She will also see an oncologist to see what they say/recommend. She is in good spirits. It’s a lot to process. I feel relieved it was contained, that the surgery was successful and she is healing well. I also feel angry and sad at the diagnosis…it brings up lots of feelings as my mother passed away from pancreatic cancer a little over 2 years ago now.
Very glad to hear that it was contained and the surgery was a success.
It’s hard to remain positive, but she is over the toughest part, it’s Good that it will be monitored.
I totally get that. I am so glad there is good news, but man cancer is such a b17=h!
It’s very rare to hear any good news when it comes to pancreatic cancer, so I consider this to be exceedingly great news! I’ll continue to keep my fingers crossed for your sister and wish her a speedy complete recovery.
I’ve never heard anyone receive news that good when it comes to pancreatic cancer. I’m so glad it was caught so early!
Oh boy, that’s definitely a lot for you and your family to process, but that’s really encouraging news! Wishing your sister much health and peace of mind!
That IS a lot to process, both the good news and the bad news. Hugs.
What good news!
I’m glad she got good news. I wish her great check ups.
Oh She-ra, I somehow missed this information about your sister. Sending love and prayers. I have a loved one going through dealing with liver cancer right now and I am also shocked and mad. Hoping for continued good news for your sister. Hugs.
So glad she is in good spirits. I hate pancreatic cancer.
Wearing a tester of Rose Pompon from a generous NSTer. I do love a fruity, dewy rose.
Had some excitement this afternoon with a bat sleeping on the wall in my foyer. My city’s animal control officer came to remove it (a service I didn’t know was available until today), and I’m just glad I saw it during the day, while it was sleeping. If I had encountered it flying around at night I would have had to move and burn the house down, obviously. 🙂
I may be weird but I love bats.
My father, who is the opposite of a philanthropist, sort of a misanthropist!, used to donate to two orgs—Skeptics Anonymous, and one for bats!
Love this!
I totally love bats! Their little faces! One got into my (former) house through a partially open window years ago and for a moment I wasn’t sure how to deal with it, but then I remembered about their amazing echolocation abilities and just opened the front door, which it promptly ‘pinged’ and flew out through.
Bats outside? Wonderful! Pictures of bats? Adorable! Bats in my house, during daylight, sleeping? Disruptive, but (as it turns out) totally manageable. Bats in my house, swooping in close range, in the dark? The stuff of my nightmares!!!
Obviously.
I’m pleased to hear that your surprise bat tenant was relocated in a humane way.
I had two bats in my house last year, which I only discovered when my cats went crazy. It was evening and they were flittering about. Really creepy. I opened up some doors and windows snd they did finally fly out.
Awww glad you didn’t have a nocturnal encounter and glad he’s safe!
Ugh.
I called the police last time we had a bat in the house and my husband was out of town. He still laughs at that, but in fact they came and tried to get it out. (They failed, but they tried.)
I wonder what they’d have charged the bat with, had they caught it…
Unlawful entry!
Wind and rain ? today, May has been rather cool, but everything looks so fresh.
In Acqua di Parma Profumo, too elegant for my loungewear.
You do smell quite put together!
Oh, thank you very much, this perfume is so plush.
Happy Thursday all!
I’m trying some Guerlains today. Non-vintage Vol de Nuit and l’Heure Bleue EDP. The VdN was an instant love for me, but l’HB…. I’ll have to give it more time and perhaps try it again in different weather.
I love VdN but never loved L’Heure Bleue so I’m right there with ya!
I am exhausted. I applied cream blush under my right eye instead of concealer and although I know I wore perfume today because I remember the physical act of spraying, I have no idea what I chose. It’s long faded, so it will remain a mystery. This school year needs to end soon!
Laughing with you, not at you! 🙂 Earlier today I was washing dishes, and when I needed to turn off the water I turned off the light instead and then stood there looking at the running faucet and wondering why it hadn’t stopped. Let there be rest!
You both had me giggling!
I’ve had days like that.
I’m sorry but this whole post made me laugh! Hang in there, friend!
Wearing Cuir de Chine, osmanthus makes me happy even though I fail to understand why.
Had my first haircut in over 6 months. I feel so much better for it, I lost about 4 inches of hair.
Haircut twins today, but my last cut was around 3 months ago. I had a respectable pile of hair on the salon floor when I was done.
I cut my son’s hair recently, and we both agreed that we could build a whole new child out of the pile of hair on the kitchen floor.
Osmanthus is so wonderful!
After a year of not buying any perfume, and not being terrifically interested in what I have, I splashed out on a few bottles earlier this month. Mostly stuff I had tried and liked when I was testing anything and everything in 2016-17.
Guerlain “Habit Rouge” and “Héritage”, the old classics. I got these in the local El Corte Inglés. The sales assistant saved me some momey by putting the 2 bottles through separately – the 1st triggered a 20% dscunt voucher which she used immediately on the 2nd. (And that also gave me a voucher but I was done).
I noted over the past year or more that the perfumes I have from Chanel, Hermès and Guerlain really stood up to repeated wear in this climate. Whereas some stuff that was great in a colder climate rarely hits the spot here, where it’s warm or hot from May to October and we don’t really “do” Winter. (But I don’t know if it’s truly a climate thing; the past 3 years have been so odd, unstable & unsettling).
Nobile 1942 “Fougère Nobile” from Aus Liebe zum Duft. I simply remembered this as a pleasant fougère back when I tried a few. I also ordered some samples from Aus Liebe zum Duft, and they threw in a few more, plus a shortbread biscuit and a couple of boiled sweets. It is always fun receiving a package from them. :^)
Pierre Guillaume “Fleur de Foudre” (used to be just “Foudre”). I note that all the old sub-brands (Parfumerie Générale, Huitième Art, Collection Croisière) seem to have been folded into Pierre Guillaume Paris. Fleur de Foudre is supposed to be inspired by the scent of Champaca flowers after a thunderstorm (or before, or during – what do I know? When will I ever get to do a comparison with the real thing?). Anyway, the guy makes *far too many perfumes* but I liked this one and it stayed on my mind.
Today I am in one of the samples I ordered, People of the Labyrinths “Luctor et Emergo”, which folk here have been swooning over in the 5 or 6 years I’ve been around. I like it a lot. Not sure I would want a FB as it’s pretty sweet; the question is moot as it was only available to sample and not to buy.
Hi, scent twin! I do swoon over Luctor et Emergo.
Congrats on all your new bottles!
Luctor et Emergo is pretty sweet, but there are times when it just hits the spot.
I love Habit Rouge! Thanks for reminding me to dig out my decant of this; it should go well with the warming spring weather.
Late again. However, I had a haircut this afternoon and it feels so much better! I was starting to give the clippers and/or scissors the eye…
SOTD = Lavender Quest Cologne Fraiche, from LZ/OM Atelier and the sample stash. This starts off as lavender soap but thankfully for me the soap leaves rather quickly.
Yay for a fresh haircut!
It was the only good thing about today, alas.
Ugh.. sorry Jalapeño.
Hey look at my new phone giving you an accent! Lol!
May you sail into a better day tomorrow with your improved hair!
Love a fresh haircut! ?
Yay you for making a space for bees in your yard/garden! ????????
Looking forward to cicadas and Splitmeet, so SotD is Luctor et emergo, in honor of both. I got my wonderful decant at last year’s meet, and watching the cicadas in my yard made me think of it. I suggest a few CP points, too, because I have been meditating on the cicada event. Happy Thursday, and off to read comments.
I have a friend in Maryland taking photos of the cicadas and another one paying recipes that use them!
I think I could go as far as imagining eating them, but doubt I would. I’ve notice my bird feeder’s suet cakes are not disappearing in the usual 4 or 5 days no doubt because for now, nature is providing the easy meal!
I’m very happy being back eating dinner at my favorite local Vietnamese restaurant! Yummy! Today I wore a light spray of Musk Deer. I went for the second acupuncture treatment of my bad shoulder. Playing both sides, I also have a consultation on Monday with an orthopedist on shoulder replacement.
Your dinner looked amazing on Insta!
Sotd is Korres Iris Lilac Powder. It’s good in the heat. It’s just a whisper of scent.
I caved and turned the air conditioner on. 88 degrees and humidity today.
The humidity was the kicker, wasn’t it?
It’s awful!
I love Iris and powder…bet I’d like that one!
I totally forgot to say Happy Birthday to Cher! I still listen to all her old hits.
They played a few of her songs on the radio here today…
Hi, friends! Miss you all! Life has been super stressful and hectic. Was really tough finding a house in this market- we got outbid on 5! But we finally got one we love! Sooooo relieved and can now not worry about spending every waking minute looking for houses or going to showings. Can’t wait to get in it- hotel life gets old.
I’m in SIP Magazine Street from a sample (thunk!). I do really like this one but not enough to buy. I wouldn’t turn it down if it fell in my lap though haha. I’ve also worn Mohur and Cuir Ottoman earlier this week. Shalimar Light yesterday.
Congratulations on getting a house! My niece and nephew have been outbid quite a few times. The one time their bid was accepted, the house didn’t pass inspection.
What a relief, congrats!
Congratulations on your new house! I hope the stress and hectic-ness fade away quickly.
