It's Hump Day, No Housework Day (put down that mop!), Billie Holiday’s birthday, and World Health Day (the theme for 2021: “Let's build a fairer, healthier world for everyone”). What fragrance are you wearing?
I am currently semi-cheating with Annick Goutal Mandragore, which is at least vaguely suggestive of something ancient?
Reminder: 4/9 will be Antiquities Friday...wear the oldest scent you own (you can interpret this as you like — the one you've owned the longest? worn the longest? the earliest launch date? whatever). Suggested by pyramus.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Still going through samples I forgot I had, and discovered two vials of Dior Fahrenheit from some time in the nineties (it was launched in 1988). *Holy cow* is it ever good. Of course it was a huge seller: it’s not like anything that came before — cool and warm at the same time, brazenly floral without being flowery, mesmerizingly complex. I can’t stop sniffing the back of my hand. I’ll be sorry when it’s all gone, because the latest version might as well not exist as far as I’m concerned.
I also discovered a spray sample of Aromatics Elixir from the same period. Now that I know I have it, I’m saving it for when I really need it.
Ohhh, the older Fahrenheit and AE are really good! My hubby nearly tossed his vintage bottle of Fahrenheit (original vintage from 1988/89). Thankfully, I was able to stop him before he got to the garbage can.
I adore older AE, so much herbs and oak moss…
SO MUCH oakmoss. The entire scent is teetering on the precipice of too-muchness, and part of its genius is that it never quite goes over the edge.
I remember the first time I sniffed it–I had to repress a moan. I was in sixth grade. I was taking acting classes (yes, no snorting) at ACT in San Francisco, and the walk from the Geary St. studios to the train station could, with just a short detour, take me through Union Square and all the fancy department stores. I would walk through the first floor perfume counters and sample perfumes on those days when I had extra time. The idea of buying perfume was well beyond me (it would be years before I “invested” in Tatiana), but lor’ I loved that one.
Good job on the near mishap! My hubby gave his bottle of Farenheit to his Dad a couple years ago. They have since moved a few times so I’m hoping it didn’t get tossed. I asked him about it awhile back (before when we could visit in person), but he doesn’t remember seeing it! Maybe I will track it down when we are able to visit in person again.
That old AE sample must be really something. Would like to smell it
Both those vintages sound wonderful.
Evyan Most Precious from what appears to be a bottle from the 50s. This is gorgeous and I don’t know why I haven’t worn it in years
Evyan White Shoulder was the very first grown-up perfume I ever bought, at a garage sale during high school.
I’m wearing Gres Cabaret, which was one of the first full bottles that I bought after beginning my fragrance journey. I had finished a decant, and decided, for the first time, that I needed a bottle. Luckily, it is cheap as chips, so that made it easier. I rarely wear it these days, since there are so many other scents in my collection, but I really do enjoy it when I do choose to wear it.
I love the kitschy bottle, too.
My bottle of Dune is from the 90s so I’m wearing it today. Just another of the endless list of “why don’t I wear this more often?” perfumes.
Older Dune is exquisite stuff! Yumms.
Oh, nineties Dune. Back in the day when Dior could do no wrong, just masterpiece after masterpiece.
So true!
I know, right?? And Dior’s eye shadows/liners were spectacular quality. Shadows oh-so velvety, silky, and with excellent color payout….
Wearing Hermes Brin de Reglisse.
Having my second cup of coffee with a couple of lavender drops and a big piece of Brioche di Pasqua.
Mom and my nephew are done with the vaccine, thanks God.
Yesterday, I had my first hair cut and mom had her second hair cut and her first mani and pedi since the pandemic started. It felt so good!
Now back to my desk. I am very distracted today and I need to fully concentrate on work!
Happy Wednesday! ?
Yay for hair cuts and mani pedi and vaccines done for your mom and nephew! Almost feels like a rebirth, I bet.
Hope you manage to concentrate on work today!
Thank you, Tulipani. I was finally able to finish a couple of things in the morning. Taking a short break now before my work day is over.
Yay for haircuts and vaccines! I am distracted this week with strong perfume buying impulses I am trying to ignore…or at least pursue when I get more work done.?
Thanks, She-ra!
I have been distracted for a while with sandals for Summer. I made some damage last night and I am resisting the temptation to get a BUB of Herba Fresca and a new of Minty Man that are already in the carts! ?
I love both Herba Fresca and Minty Man too! I have debated a FB of Minty Man and still may get it….kind of a mint gourmand to my nose. 🙂 Perfume acquisitions are a wonderful diversion in the best and worst of times. 😉
We are haircut twins!
Excellent! It feels great to have a hair cut now!
Great news from you today! Glad to hear that your loved ones have all their shots, and that you got a much longed for haircut. It probably felt even better than usual.
Thank you, Jalapeno!
It may sound ridiculous, but I was a little teary-eyed after I saw how nice my hair was looking again. Unbelievable, how a hair cut makes a difference these days!
Not ridiculous at all.
Good morning all!
SOTD is the glorious Opardu.
As I was mentioning in the weekend post, I have decided to order the 60 mL bottle of Opardu from Luckyscent and it’s already been shipped. I should have it by the end of this week.
The cost for the bottle was $325 with free shipping and no tax added, which brings the cost per mL to $5.40 (to which I will add $5 for shipping and supplies).
I would like to split 30 mLs (there will be 5 or 10 mL options) and will mail in the US only.
Anyone interested please contact me at arzeznik in the land of comcast with a dot and a net.
Thanks!
Oh, yay! Emailing you now…
Congrats on the bottle!
Thank you! You helped a little ?
Hello everyone! My SOTD is Ancient Resins body oil layered with a spritz of Sonoma Scent Studio’s Incense Pure. 🙂
I’m overjoyed with relief that Mr. Smokeytoes received vaccine #1 yesterday. 😀
I just started reading All the Ways We Said Goodbye: A Novel of the Ritz Paris, written by Beatriz Williams.
That sounds like a great scent combination!
I’m wafting loads of incense, perfect for today. 🙂
Yay for his vaccine!
Oh, I bet you smell marvelous, and that you are wafting incense like mad!
Ooooooh, I should try that combo!
The dogs are shedding like crazy and had to vacuum today and did it in no 22. It looks like it will be a Chanel day and will be wearing Coromandel after my shower. Since it will be close to 80F, I think I will take the dogs to the park for a walk today. I think that will keep me off Luckyscent. I keep debating on if I should get a bottle of Avignon.
House twins!
Also wishlist house twins, I keep lusting after a bottle of Kyoto.
No 22 is so pretty, the perfect support perfume (or antidote) for vacuuming the floors.
This week I’m happily hosting a friend’s dog at my house, and watching dog fluff pile up in the corners of my hardwood floors. I don’t mind at all, but I will probably break out the vacuum tomorrow.
Avignon is on my perpetual wish list, so beautiful. ❤️
Wearing my first blind buy bottle, so Dzing! it is. And it fits the snow storms we have today.
Snow storms…that’s uncalled for!
Congrats on your new blind buy ?
Totally uncalled for.
Are you at high altitude?
No I am in Germany, in a warmer Region in the south
Yay for hump day!
I’m in Atelier Cologne Silver Iris.
In my collection since 2013 when it launched.
I was reminded that I have a sample of SI while organizing recently. I think I know what I’m putting on later today….
Hermes Sur le Nil, because summery. Purchased way after the release, and definitely not amongst my oldest bottles. It took me a while to come around to this, but I’ve come to love it.
And it’s still one of my favorites from Hermes.
Directly defying the project by wearing my newest bottle, Eau des Sens, but not out of protest; I just wanted to smell like herbs and orange blossoms.
You smell gorgeous! I finished a bottle last year.
Reason enough!
That was my first from Diptyque and it’s still a favorite. You smell wonderful.
I’m in no 5 parfum today, definitely one of the oldest releases I have, AND the bottle itself is quite old too, from the mid-90s. It was a very generous gift from my dad, and quite a random one too. He has never bought me perfume which I didn’t chose myself, except for this.
What a kind father.
I know, I’m very blessed!
In a newbie (or newbi-ish) perfume, from an old house. Boy, for the elegance I am trying to muster.
Boy feels old, or at least old school, to me. You smell wonderful. ?
I just bought a sample of Boy and was surprised by how much I loved it. It’s so elegant.
Holding off on the CP until Friday so that I can continue my forest&juniper search. Today is Satori Mizunara. This one gets the juniper, but not the forest. There is a nice layer of herbs in this, but not what I’m looking for. Actually, if my dad still wore cologne, he would be into this one. So, thus far on this quest I’ve learned that I need to steer clear of herbal notes, and possibly patchouli as well, or else I end up closer to shaving cream than to fresh forest.
Getting my second vaccine shot tonight – very excited! Drinking lots of tea counts as hydrating, right? 🙂
Tea = Hydration
Yay for second shot! Keep drinking tea!
Good luck with your second shot!
Trying out Pacifica Silver Moon which was a blind buy…notes are vanilla, almond and spice. I am getting lots of almond and musky, vanilla.
Having a tough work week and all I really want to do is scour the internet and buy more perfume…it’s like the two things go hand in hand…go figure…???
Sorry for your tough work week.☹️ At least it’s hump day!
Oh man, work stress and online browsing are sooo linked in my brain! I hope your week gets at least a little better.
I’m in No. 5 L’eau.
The moon was a tiny sliver out my window this morning as I was getting ready for work.
I wore Eau Premiere yesterday and this one either doesn’t last as long or I become anosmic to it. Either way, nice while it lasts.
I surprised myself by falling in love with L’eau last summer. It lasts all day on me, although close to the skin by the end. But it may not be as long lived as Eau Premiere – I don’t remember that one well.
I found the more I wore L’eau, the more I could smell it. I had to stop sniffing my wrist and just let it waft.
You know me and 8 sprays ?
Ha! Yes?, my two probably wasn’t enough.
In Mugler Supra Floral, to encourage those May flowers after these April showers.
That’s on my wishlist. You smell good
Nice!
It’s vintage Gres Cabochard EDT for me today. Not sure how “vintage” my sample is – it was whatever STC had in stock circa 2015 – but it is lovely. Lovely enough, in fact, that I have just ordered a perfumath-free bottle of it in the older packaging (with fingers crossed).
Very good luck, hope it is perfect!
Vintage Coco sample today – not sure when this one is from, but I think late 80s/early 90s. I’ve got three large vintage samples and they are amazing. I’m keeping my eyes open for garage sales hoping to find more of this. Like others, trying to concentrate on working, but…spring is calling!
I am happy to send you some more vintage Coco. A few years back I got a bee in my bonnet and bought a bunch…a real vintage Coco bender if you will. 😉 I haven’t been reaching for it as much and plan to rehome and/or sell some on evilBay. Not sure if you prefer the EDP or EDT but I have both…I think some parfum too. 🙂 Shoot me an email if interested please.
Thanks, She-ra! I will email.
In Rodin today and loving the jasmine – not that old but I just saw that EL is closing Rodin Olio Lusso (not sure exactly what that means but paying an hommage anyway)
Yep, they are. I can only assume that means the fragrances too, but who knows.
I splashed some Memoire by Shiseido Memoire this morning but this evening I turned to Coty l’Origan, 1905, it’s an oldish bottle but not vintage I think.
Shiseido house twins. ?
Hello house twin?
SotD = L’Heure Bleue edt
Launched 100+ years ago! Pretty ancient perfume, or pretty and ancient, though my bottle is probably less than 5 years old. One of my favorite blind buys ever.
No housework for me today. I will pull some weeds, they are starting to get the upper hand this Spring. I’d rather not put weed-n-feed on the lawn, but sometimes it’s the only way to have more grass than dandelions. 😀
We mostly gave up, but we did get the lawn aerated this year — we’ll see if that helps.
I’m starting to see dandelions in my grass, too.
Wednesday!
SOTD: Bagetelle de Gabriel after a cardio routine! It’s very refreshing, and lasts for about 4 hours as a skin scent- exactly what you want after a hot workout!
After a wonderful Easter weekend of sunshine and wind it’s back to steel grey skies. I sow seeds directly into the veggie patch last week and so I have to remind myself that I will not see green shoots for many of the plants until next week!
However, the radishes and arugula are already making an appearance!
Radishes are always in such a hurry! So much fun. ? ?
Ha- they really are! I am trying purple and icicle whites this year- pretty exciting!
I’m wearing Escentric 2, which is the oldest bottle in terms of date purchased in my current collection. (That was a total coincidence – I wasn’t thinking of the CP, it’s just what I wanted to wear.)
I hope everyone has a good rest of their day. There’s way too much pollen everywhere, but it’s sunny, there’s blooming trees and fresh green leaves everywhere and it just feels amazing. Biggest thanks to the genius who invented allergy pills!!!
Tons of pollen here too!
SOTD = I got vaccinated while wearing Mix:Bar Vanilla Bourbon
https://www.instagram.com/p/CNYCTluh4ft/?igshid=1fl8laiihdjzu
The longest time was for getting there and back plus the hour wait to be one of the first in line. I got the J&J vaccine which was my first choice. Now I just have to wait for it to kick in. I hope I don’t suffer any side effects or if I do, they will be mild!
I’ll be back later to read and comment.
Yay for the vaccine! Glad you already got it!
Thank you! I did not want to give up the opportunity.
Congratulations on getting the vaccine!
Thank you! It was a last minute thing and it went smoothly.
Yay on your vaccination!
Thank you!
So glad!
My son is getting Pfizer on Monday. If anyone is in eastern PA and still looking, the mass site in Lancaster has so many doses they are giving them to people in group 2 (in other words, everyone), as they can (1a & 1b still get priority). You sign up, they email you when you can make an appt. We only waited 4-5 days for a spot.
Thank you! It’s great your son is getting vaccinated shortly!
Congrats on the vaccine, and getting the one you wanted!
Yay! That was the bonus!
w00t w00t w00t on getting the vaccine you wanted!
W00t indeed!
Yay! I’m glad you were able to get the one shot, like you wanted! They give you a choice?
My older sister and BIL were there last week and she said to make sure that I ask for the J&J. Today, they were only offering the J&J but if people were there for their 2nd shot (I think it was Moderna), they will only get the shot between 12:30 and 3.
Yay for getting your shot of choice while wearing vanilla! 🙂 Hope to see you on the Sniffa shortly…I didn’t sign up in time for the next one though. 🙁 I also was missing 2 samples from the Boclet one and emailed one of the Karens but haven’t heard back yet. 😉 Damned if it wasn’t the vanilla one too…
Thank you!
That’s terrible with the missing samples! Which is the other one you’re missing? My leather was down to almost nothing and one other one was also quite low.
Incense was also missing but, as you are aware, I kind of have perfume coming out of my ears. 😉 Still vanilla. ehaeheh
Congrats on your vaccine. I am getting my second this weekend. I am a little nervous about getting sick.
Thanks. Are you nervous about getting sick as in vaccine side effect or sick with COVID? I don’t want to get sick with COVID…and actually, with your one dose, you are already protected so the 2nd one will just give you more protection. There’s no guarantee you won’t get infected but if you do, it is generally supposed to be milder.
I was very tired after the first dose. I hope You’re right.
Great to hear this and yes, I hope there will be no side-effects! Keep us updated!
Will do. So far so good!
I’m in Shiseido Energizing Fragrance, from a mini I received in a swap awhile ago. Is this turning into a mini week? Maybe.
I like this! It’s a lightly floral musk with a snuggly skin scent drydown. It seems like I’m getting some citrus, but it’s not in the notes list. The bottle is shaped like an orange, so am I suggestible? Maybe. ? Would I swap for this? Definitely.
Mini week sounds like something fun!
Wearing l’Âme perdue. Not very old but it does hark back to a more glorious past.
Which should count, right?
I’m wearing a new version of an old perfume, Chaldée by Jean Patou. It feels right for a beautiful autumn morning. The sun is coming up, there is a light breeze, it bodes well for the walk to work.
Wearing L’Air du Temps edt today. Mine is not vintage but I went through a few bottles years ago. Sadly, this is a shadow of it’s former self. Yesterday I wore Lanvin’s My Sin, from a vintage bottle.
The original was beautiful! I had a vintage mini but, sadly, it fell and broke. The last time that I sniffed LdT in store, I thought it very changed. I detected something sweet, like vanilla, lwhich ruined it for me.
It was beautiful back in the day. Today I definitely over-sprayed (about 10 sprays); I even picked up the carnation this time!
I’m wearing OJ Nawab of Oud, because somebody here mentioned it several days ago, which reminded me that I have a little travel spray. I am a huge fan of Ormonde Jayne perfumes, particularly their top notes, which often make me swoon.
It’s a Zoom day for me — I’ll be zooming all afternoon and into the early evening. On these days, I garner fortitude from scent!
Hope that you are done Zooming now and can relax for a bit!
Too late for me to learn that it was No Housework Day! But it did feel good to get those cat fur tumbleweeds taken care of.
SOTD = back in Le Labo Ylang 49. I am liking this more and more!
Cat fur tumbleweeds, as well as dust thicknesses, are at epic levels in my house.
I had to do something about the ones in the guest bathroom. I can ignore other spots for a little while longer now.
I did some laundry. I don’t mind though, because it gives me a sense of accomplishment. I’m not sure why, but I don’t get that feeling after doing the dishes. LOL
It is nice not seeing a full laundry hamper, isn’t it?
Cat fur tumbleweeds are inevitable this time of year. My shepherd’s are even worse.
I am always amazed at how much loose fur is on the floor this time of year.
It’s practically no housework day for me every day ?. That said, I do enjoy doing laundry ??♀️
Currently I am sick of doing laundry. I need to take a couple of days off from that!
SotD is Maison Margiela ‘Replica’ Beach walk.
Sipping tea and watching calves frolic in the corn field a
You’re new here, right? Hello!
Yes I am. Thanks for the welcome. I feel your pet hair everywhere pains as my dog is currently blowing his coat (he’s part malamute).
It was warm today so I went with Cristalle EDP. Mine is an old splash bottle. I decant a small amount at a time because they evaporate. I am still considering a BUB since I would hate to be without. I have no idea how old the bottle is because it doesn’t have a batch code. Smells beautiful tjough.
You do smell beautiful!
Thank you LJ!
Cristalle shines in warm weather!
I love to wear it during spring and summer.
I think I may need to get on the Cristalle bandwagon!
Hop on!
It was hot here today, but the air and my nerves are both unsettled. A lot of rain heading my way.
I had my hair cut this morning. I went shorter than I intended, but I figured who knows when I will get it cut again. I wasn’t thrilled with the hairdresser so I will have to look around again next time. I wore Rebecca Minkoff this morning and Gabrielle later in the day. 24 hours until my brother picks the dog up! Hopefully he won’t be delayed much by the rain.
I bet your hair will look great. Just give it a few weeks.
Yay for the end of dog sitting!
You are a kind and generous sister.
Hurray for both the haircut and the last 24 hours of dog sitting!
Yay in the haircut … mine is more than 5 months overdue and it is LONG!
And also hooray for the end of dogsitting tomorrow!
I thought I posted today, but my post is not here. Wearing a new sample of Snowy Owl. This is unusual and very pretty. I like it a lot. The other Zoologist scent I’ve sniffed and liked is Dragonfly. I would also like to try Hummingbird.
