It's Hump Day and the last day of March. (PSA: we’ll be receiving a visit from Donatella tomorrow, plus don't forget to rabbit!) What fragrance are you wearing?
I loved the 4 books — Chicken Soup with Rice, Pierre, One was Johnny, Alligators All Around — in Maurice Sendak's Nutshell Library when I was a child, and I loved reading the books to my child. I did not know about the Really Rosie musical, based on the books with music by Carole King, until I was an adult, but I played it for my son until long after he aged out of it and asked me to please stop.
What perfume would fit the simple counting book One was Johnny? Well, 7 is a blackbird that pecked poor Johnny's nose, and there is a banana in the book as well, so I'm smelling delicious in Blackbird Y06-S. Lame, I know.
Reminder: 4/2 is International Children’s Book Day. Name a favorite children's book and wear a fragrance to match.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy Wednesday!

Chanel makeup
That’s very pretty!
You smell and look great!
I’m in Arte Profumi Samharam from a decant that has really suffered from rapid evaporation. Enabler pin to cazaubon for this one. It’s a wonderful incense.
I’d been feeling pretty meh about perfumes lately and so the other day I made an alphabetized list of my entire collection…samples, decants and full bottles. And yes, I did this the old fashioned way because I have never used an excel spreadsheet in my life.? Starting at the top I am going to methodically go through everything and make notes. I’m kind of excited because it will force me to try and wear things that I ordered and then never got around to wearing, you know how it goes. I have enough that for the next three months I will wear a different fragrance everyday. I know this pales in comparison to some of your collections, but just a few years ago I never had more than 2-3 perfumes on hand at a time!
Anyway, just wanted to share with somebody and I knew that nobody else would understand but perfume people. lol
I have to update the list of my entire collection. I think the last time I did it was 2 years ago and a lot has happened since then. It is a big task, especially when it comes to decants. I never include samples because I would never finish, unless they are special ones, like all my incense sample collection and others I love. I may do that soon now that I am decluttering.
Love decluttering and reorganizing stuff.
I use spreadsheets almost daily and never made a list of my collection. It’s a great idea though but I just can’t make myself do it. ?
You and me both ?. Excel is every workday.
In my line of work I have never had to use a spreadsheet. I am a good list maker though.?
I worry about the decants that are evaporating in my perfume cupboard. I can smell them every time I open the door. I should inventory mine like you did. Though my dream is to have enough space to have all the perfume laid out so I can see everything. Not enough space, so that’s not gonna happen! 😀
Ooh, yes, I love seeing everything too. I have a small perfume tray on my tall dresser where I keep a dozenish displayed and change it up periodically. Looking at them sparks joy for me and sometimes I’ll just sniff them for fun. My family thinks I’m weird, lol.?
I know exactly how you feel, tiffanie. I open my perfume drawers and the waft is wonderful, but I feel sad about the evaporation.
I love spreadsheets and started one of my collection a few years ago. I excluded samples, because it would just be overwhelming and also not really worth the effort.
I just get so much satisfaction from listing things! Hahahaha. I even put down information like how much I paid for something and where I bought it (if I remember). It really is eye opening and scary to see all your bottles/decants all together, albeit on a sheet!
I love lists too! I really wish I knew how to use spreadsheets, they sound right up alley….I love lists and organization.?
You should just open up a Google sheet (their free version of Excel) and start playing around. It’s not as hard as it looks, you can keep it as simple as you’d like. And there’s always the un-do button!! ?
hmm…that is an idea.
Exactly. Spreadsheets are easy to play with and can be used creatively. I use them all the time instead of word processing.
Great idea! You will be able to narrow down what you like and use up some things at the same time.
Exactly!?Great minds think alike!?
Good for you! A few years back, I started to inventory FBs and then I stopped. It started with listing each individually and the Quarter/Year I acquired them, then I have my BUBs which I ended up creating another column for how many, then there were those where I had just about every size offered. Finally, this all stressed me out so I quit doing it.
Lol, that does sound stressful. My collection is not nearly(!) so large, so making the list was kinda fun. Plus, like Gail said, I’ll weed out some that I don’t like and use up some samples.
Ouch, so sorry it is evaporating, but at least you are getting to wear it! This is how I justify all my FB purchases – decants don’t hold up well. 🙂
I used Excel for a living and loathed it, so I’m gradually entering my collection in the Basenotes wardrobe system as I wear them.
Yeah, some definitely evaporate more than others. Oddly, it seems like the darker, “richer” fragrances are more susceptible…this one, LADDM, Orchidee Vanille were some of the worst for me. This one has basically turned into a few drops of perfume oil. It is lovely though!
I don’t use a spreadsheet to keep track of The Perfume Stash… I just have a Word document. And I have made sure to keep a backup copy of it on a thumb drive.
Ok! Now, Word I have and know how to use! Do you use a certain template or just take notes?
I have the name of the perfume, house, type of perfume (e.g. floral, chypre, leather, etc.) and my thoughts about it. Sometimes I have the date of manufacture, if I can find that info. Nothing complicated, or I would have gotten fed up and quit doing it.
I have it in alphabetical order by perfume name.
Yay, I love this!
I made a list of my collection on the lists app on my iPhone. I did it so I could check off scents as I use them, but also to have a list handy to remind myself of what I already own if I’m out shopping and see something I “need” to buy.
I pulled Milly-la-Foret from my box of minis. Pretty good.
I haven’t worn this one for years. I remember liking it. I should probably revisit it soon. I wonder: is it still a part of the collection? After the most resent update, I completely lost track of what is going there.
It is discontinued.
I wonder if anyone is going to play an April’s Fool on me tomorrow.
I’m wearing Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamon. It’s 22*C outside today but for Easter it will drop by half! Not fair at all!
You smell great!
Thank you! It’s still a decant from you.
I’ll keep it a surprise ?.
I’m scared 😉
I went with Irises today by TRNP. It is a beautiful warm Iris scent. A masterpiece IMHO.
Happy Thursday all!
Oops..I meant Wednesday. Wishful thinking…
What’s TRNP is full?
Teone Reinthal is an Australian perfumer. TRNP is her brand. Have you heard of this house?
I think the NP means natural perfume
Nope, not familiar at all with this brand.
I’ve never heard of this brand either. How do you like it?
I meant the brand in general.
I’ve only tried five or six from her line but I really love the two that I own. It’s impossible to sample the entire range because shipping is prohibitively expensive from down under. She has a website if you lookup TRNP. She has both modern and vintage style perfumes. The longevity is really good for a natural range. She also sells travel sizes which is nice. Lucky scent had a small offering from her range the last time I checked.
SotD = L’ambre des Merveilles (from a 15 ml travel bottle)
because it smells good over the leftovers of Eau des Merveilles I wore yesterday! This is one of my favorite accidental layering effects.
I may have chosen poorly though. Today’s high temperature will be in the high 80s F. L’ambre leans very resinous for me in warm weather. I prefer it on cool days when the vanilla is slightly more prominent. Ah, well. It’s working this morning.
I love Sendak’s Chicken Soup with Rice too! I used to read it to Kindergarteners then teach the song. The kids thought it was fun to sing about soup. 😀
Chicken Soup with Rice was my mother’s favorite, so we heard that one a lot as kids. My favorite was Pierre 🙂
Prada Infusion de Rose is my SOTD and I am drinking my third cup of Russian Caravan tea.
Do you have the old or the new Infusion de Rose?
I didn’t really like the original but enjoyed the newer version.
The newer version. I enjoyed the older one also, though ?
I wish they came up with a new addition to the line. It’s been a while since Infusion de Mandarine.
That would be really nice ! I wonder what other aromas would be good ones for future Prada Infusions.
Good morning Y’all,
Went with SJP Lovely You….I like it better than the original Lovely, which is saying a lot! Lovely is probably the oldest bottle in my collection…
Such a pretty scent. You smell lovely!
Hey JadainGA! You have a new enabler pin for Rebecca Minkoff! I’m really enjoying it?
Oh YAY! I’m so glad you like it! I love the way it dries down, and it lasts all day on my skin….
Since 6:30 AM, I’ve been listening to an intergenerational dialogue on climate justice with feminist activists from around the world. The young women are so smart and thoughtful. Wearing Chloe Sevigny Little Flower and a comfortable tunic I rediscovered in the back of my closet for the early morning gathering. I am not thinking of any specific book, but the oeuvre of E. Nesbit that completely charmed me for years when I was a little girl–much as a rose perfume would have.
good for you for listening. At 6:30am I was still dreaming of some character in a book I was reading…
Your conference or dialogue sounds so wonderful! Good for you. I don’t know that perfume but I think Chloe Sevigny is a fabulous actor. Loved her in the excellent TV series Bloodline.
Same! She was fantastic.
You smell great!
That dialogue sounds fascinating.
I loved E. Nesbit. Oh, to find a psammead!!!!
Mitsouko today–feeling a bit under the weather due to 2nd Covid vaccine yesterday, but WORTH IT.
Chicken soup with rice is nice–We loved those books, too, Robin. But I guess my perfume doesn’t match today.
I hope you’ll feel better soon!
Oh, at first I thought you meant you were eating chicken soup with rice because of your covid shot, lol. Hope you are feeling better soon!
I hope you feel better soon! I have been checking the Wegmans website since yesterday but so far no luck. I spoke with a pharmacist yesterday who was really crabby when I asked about what type of vaccine they offered. Seriously, I do not need attitude when I am asking a simple question.
springpansy, whoo-hoo! Side effects are a good sign (doesn’t feel like it, I know). Cause for celebration, and the wearing of great perfume.
Congratulations on your second vaccination! You defintely deserve some chicken soup with rice. 😉
Well wishes, dear springpansy, hope it passes quickly and yay for the vaccine! You certainly smell great.
Hope you feel better!
Hope that your post-vax side effects clear up soon!
Hope you do not get any worse than a little bit under the weather, but yes, worth it! So excited that PA is now opening vaccines to everybody on 4/19.
Yay for second vaccine! I get mine next Saturday. Excited but nervous how I will feel after.
I hope you feel better soon!!!
Congrats on your second vaccine, and I hope you feel better by now.
I’m having a hard time remembering any children’s books we read except for Winnie the Pooh. Funny how that’s the one that really stands out in my memory. Oh, and Mom read us a lot of the Grimm’s Fairy Tales too. We had a beautiful illustrated book of them. Wonder whatever happened to it.
Today I’m being kind of fun and fruity and spicy in Noel au Balcon. It’s not one I reach for often, but some days it feels just right.
Robin, I don’t think your perfume choice is lame at all. It makes good sense to me!
Fortunately, my son loves Winnie the Pooh as much as I do, so I get to read it over and over and over. 🙂
We loved Winnie the Pooh, and also his poems, many of which I still remember….They’re changing the guard at Buckingham Palace, Christopher Robin went down with Alice, etc etc.
A little sluggish from yesterday’s shot and going out with a friend to a quick lunch today. Spending some time in Theorema right now after wearing Lyric.
Yay for another 2nd shot!! You smell great too, of course.
Yay for your shot and hope you enjoyed your lunch with your friend.
I decided to go with the CP today. I’m wearing La Curie Incendo, which is one letter off from a Harry Potter spell. Not a book I read as a kid (I’m too old) but one I read to my kid (and read as an adult before I had a kid).
Enjoying the little bit of sun we’ve had this week, especially now that we’ve gone back to semi-lockdown again.
What a clever pairing for the CP!
My son was really too young for Harry Potter when it first came out, so I read it to decide when he could read it, and in the end I think I liked them all more than he did 🙂
Good one!
I’m wearing Replica Tea Escape today. I’m still so sad this one has been discontinued. I have an almost full travel spray, and am regretting not buying a full bottle when I had the chance. But I just ordered the travel spray of the new Matcha Meditation, maybe I’ll like it as much!
Do tell once you try it. I kept hearing about Tea Escape and the lament of its discontinuation.
In Shaal Nur. I’d like to pair it with The Little Prince.
Aww, love The Little Prince. Did you see the movie version Netflix did a few years ago? I really liked it. Of course I cried, lol.
I haven’t! Thanks for mentioning it – now I’ll see if I can still find it on Netflix!
Oh, report back if you do!
Nice pairing!
It’s a gorgeous sunny morning here, and supposed to hit the high 60s! I’m celebrating in a multitude of sprays of Mediterraneo. ? ?
Lucky you! And perfect scent for it.
We have rain and grey.
It’s sunny and beautiful here too. I’m in Guerlain Vetiver; perfect for today.
Nice.
You smell wonderful. I love Guerlain Vetiver.
Did anybody ever read Hitty: Her First Hundred Years as a kid? There are a few books that trigger an actual memory of reading from that time (oh so long ago), and this is one of them.
I answered the call of the wild today, and am wearing L’Elephant. Sometimes, it just feels right.
You smell wonderful.
I have not even heard of it! Off to google…
You smell fab.
Wearing a sample of Killian’s Dark Lord, who is apparently wearing freshly-polished leather shoes.
😀 Love it!
SOTD = Boucheron Iris de Syracuse
From a decant split by perfumelover67. Woo hoo! It is a wonderful buttery iris, perfectly smooth. This is filed under office safe perfume for whenever I need to report back (hopefully a long ways away still …).
https://www.instagram.com/p/CNF4cadB0pS/?igshid=ubfo01ai0hie
In other news, methinks my bottle of Molinard Habanita in the limited edition Red arrived yesterday. I still put mail in quarantine for at least 1 day but yep, I get to open it TODAY – so excited to see how red is red!
At work, I am getting annoyed that whenever I bring up a particular non-controversial topic, the business lead wants me to take it offline with a subject matter expert who is on the call. It was not even halfway through a 30-minute meeting when I asked the question but he seemed to be (and always appeared to be) in a hurry to get the call over and done with. The Project Manager is not with it either. We were all on a Zoom line and he was on a separate Zoom line. Of course he had to drop from the other one and join the one that’s on the meeting invitation and where 25 people were waiting for him to join. Oy!
Lovely picture!? I am happy you are enjoying Iris de Syracuse!
Thanks! The perfume is gorgeous!
It really is a great scent for work.
Absolutely!
Will you be getting an Extra Large Sample? Iris is definitely your jam.
Iris is indeed my jam! You never know if an XL sample is in my future ?
That is definitely frustrating (the work situation). I haven’t tried that iris yet, but you make is sound so good!
It is lovely !
Went with Chypre Siam today, because the bottle seems to evaporate fasted than it should. The scent is great, but the sprayer is… He really should invest in better bottles, because it was not cheap.
Oh, that is a bummer.
That is not good news. I have a discovery set I need to finish testing and was hoping to find a true love. Hmm…
A lovely day today and I am wearing Ginger Piccante.
Jealous of everyone having a lovely day! We are having less sun than I was hoping for this time of year.
I had lots of books as a child, and we were enthusiastic users of the children’s section of the public library. Nothing is coming to mind as a perfume inspiration, so I’ve decided on the always appropriate Vol de Nuit.
Always a wonderful choice! One of these days I’ll cave and buy one of the gorgeous vintage bottles…
I still remember how much I loved our local library! The librarians were so nice and helpful. The day I got my mom to come in and sign for me to have an adult card was SUCH a big deal to me.
Me too. I remember it so well!
Always a good choice.
I found my sample of Dryad today and gosh darn it, am remembering why it immediately went on my full-bottle wish list. I have the day off and the weather gods decided to grace us with a day of almost summer-like warmth — I drank my coffee on the back porch at 6:30 a.m. with Canada geese flying across the still-luminous moon, and it was astonishingly warm even at that hour. Torn between getting things done and being langorous, so I’m doing a bit of both.
If you’re in the U.S., I can send you some Dryad. I am getting a partial bottle. It will be for later in April as I need to first fulfill my splits. Click on my username to get my email addy.
Hot and sunny here, I’m wearing Atélier Materi Cuir d’Iris and trying to finish packing my books and perfumes. The sale of my condo is due to close in 2.5 hours, may all go well. We are doing it remotely with Microsoft Teams app, hoping this works as planned!
Good luck with the sale.
Congratulations! That’s awesome news!
Good luck! And congratulations!
Hope everything goes smoothly!
Congratulations!
Good luck! I hope that things went exactly how you wanted them to.
Yay…that’s exciting!
Woo hoo !
Fingers crossed!!!
I am happy to report it all went well! Very relieved, although sad too. I loved my condo in Montréal and had so many good times there, but the world has changed since the pandemic hit and I no longer want to live in a dense urban area, so it’s for the best.
Good luck!
Congratulations!!! I hope this new phase of your life brings you joy and many wonderful memories.
Thank you sistine, I’m feeling quite emotional about it. Looking forward to the future!
Still warm today, 22C with sun ☀ and clouds but it will get cooler by the end of the week.
Wearing Arpège in its silky sandalwood drydown this evening , because my bottle is vintage it is Mysore I believe.
Beautiful!
Thank you Petunia, it has been a long time since last wore it.
It’s so amazing to smell the sandalwood (and civet, real ambergris, etc) in old fragrances.
Isn’t it, but we’re happy for the civet cats?
Wow, that’s crazy warm weather for March!
I agree but it’s just a few days then we will be back to normal temperatures.
I loved the Frank Asch Bear books as a kid. When You Give a Mouse a Cookie was also in heavy rotation, but more with my younger sister. These days, whenever she asks for a favor, the text includes the emojis of the mouse, the cookie, and a glass of milk.
Continuing to test forest scents with JMP’s Endless Forest today. (I’ll take half of CP point for forests and bears being related in theme.) My first reaction was “oh, this is masculine” but I am trying to train myself beyond masculine/feminine descriptors to identify the actual notes. The best I can come up with is that it reminds me of shaving cream and feels cold in my nose — that is, it causes the same cooling physical sensation that mint does, even though I don’t get any mint notes from it. I’m looking at the notes listed on Fragrantica and can’t figure out which of them might cause this. Papyrus? Patchouli? I’m not sure.
Drinking Clipper Ship Darjeeling 2nd Flush on this rainy day.
If the patchouli in your SOTD has a lot of camphor in it, that could account for the cooling sensation you are experiencing.
Patchouli—> camphor —> cooling sensation makes sense. Thanks for solving that mystery!
Wearing Zoologist Bee because I am craving honey this week. Maybe it’s because of spring? Anyway, pairing this with The Secret Garden.
I love Secret Garden. One of my favorite childhood books.
Good pairing!
Ooh, i love the book, too! I should reread it. It has been years.
PS Just wanted to add that my fave Maurice Sendak was In the Night Kitchen, even more than Where the Wild Things Are and Pierre (both of which I adore). I read it to my boys every few weeks when they were little. They didn’t love it like me–but if I agreed to read two books, I could usually get them to sit through it again, and again.
Yep, love all of those!! I could do a week of Maurice Sendak, easy.
Got the crockpot working on making dinner for me this afternoon. It seems counterintuitive to use it in warm weather, but it doesn’t heat up the kitchen like turning the stove/oven on would. Something to remember in the future!
SOTD = Guerlain AA Mandarine Basilic, from the sample stash and one of the fine folks here at NST!
You smell great!
Thank you! I’d love to smell it on Mr. Jalapeno, but that ain’t happening.
It is true, but all the same on very hot days I run the crockpot outside.
If worst (weather) comes to worst, there’s always cold tuna salad. No cooking involved in that, just chopping and mixing. Or ordering pizza. ?
My mom ran the crockpot in the garage during the hot Houston summers. I’m actually wondering how she found room on the workbench to accommodate it. ?
The garage works! I put it on the back porch. I put the toaster oven out there too sometimes.
Good thinking on the crockpot! Although last week was unseasonably warm, we’ ve resumed normal temps and intermittent rain this week. April showers.
You smell pretty!
Thanks Petunia!
Lots of activity on my PTO day today…had PT appointment and therapist said my range of motion is much improved and no more sessions needed for now 🙂 just to keep doing my exercises and check in as needed…went to mall and got a new battery for my iPhone and bought a pair of Allbirds sneakers…the Women’s Tree Dashers…very comfortable…hadn’t tried them on before…pleasantly surprised to find their store at the mall even 😉 …sniffed Biarritz and Donna Born In Roma Yellow Dream at Nordstrom…both kind of meh…and I am about to have glass of wine before the Sniffapalooza! The days are packed! 😉
Congrats on having your last PT session!
“See” you in a few minutes! And hooray on your PT!
Congratulations on the progress in your PT!!
Sounds like a good day, enjoy your sniffing!
Life has been pretty hectic latley, and I haven’t been able to have any quiet NST time. Right now trying my hand at making stuffed peppers and awaiting my brother’s dog that I will be watching for a week. Today I wore No.5 L’eau because ltsg mentioned it the other day.
Also quick PSA.. Sephora has a 25 dollar beach perfume sampler set. It includes TF Eau de Soliel Blanc. You get a certificate to redeem for the travel spray which is normally 49 dollars. It’s a great deal. There’s others to choose from, but that’s the only one I can remember right now because I ordered it, lol. Just in time for Donatella!
How funny! I bookmarked a recipe for stuffed bell peppers earlier this evening!
Sounds like a great deal, enjoy your sniffing! And good luck with the dog. 🙂
I think mine turned out ok for my first try.
My reply went in the wrong place – enjoy your sniffing and best of luck with the dog!
Thank you! I’m a little nervous but hopefully we will be settled in with each other soon.
I’ve been spraying and respraying Arielle Saturday all day while I get all the little things done. Laundry done, overnight oats are made, house picked up, kitchen clean. Hubster is going to give me a backyard haircut and then all I’ll need to do is shower and relax! ?
Wow, those little things are adding up to a lot!
You smell so good!
10 CC for me today and it is smelling SUPER good!
You smell gorgeous!
You smell wonderful!
I had to get my third quarter grading done by the end of today so I wore musc 25, which is my “focus and get bleep done” scent. Dang, I smelled good. And all the grading is finished! (Let’s pretend 4th quarter isn’t about to start…)
Yay for getting it all finished!
Woot! You smell great.
Whoo hoo! Everyone needs a “Get It Done!” perfume in their wardrobe.
If I had chosen a less expensive, easier to get perfume for this role I would probably get a lot more done!
Was commando yesterday, and today, in Chanel Cuir de Russie — for a suddenly much colder, grey and rainy day. I felt subtly beautiful.
Once again I thought I did not have a book but then Captain Obvious showed up and suggested Anna Karenina — which is NOT a children’s book but then again, an awful lot of Russian kids read it. I keep thinking of the ball scene where Kitty wants Anna to wear lilac, and Anna dresses, instead, in black — and Kitty realizes that it is exactly the right color for her. The Cuir de Russie is Anna in black.
Wow, that is really not a children’s book!
(Oops, that sounded scolding and wasn’t meant to be…just meant it is not light reading or youthful themes…I think I was in college the first time I read it, and even then, I don’t think I got from it what I got later, if that makes sense.)
I took your comment as intense agreement rather than scolding. 🙂 _AK_ has not aged well for 21st-c. U.S. college students; they have a hard time understanding the social mores and how bad Anna’s situation became. It is a challenge to teach. But it has some of the most beautiful writing.
