Happy Friday and happy World Nutella Day! February is also Black History Month and National Grapefruit month. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with grapefruit; extra credit if Grapefruit (or Pamplemousse or whatever) is in the name of the scent. (This is a repeat from 2015.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
No need to change what works, so I'm wearing what I wore when we did this project in 2015: the bright and cheerful Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Pamplemousse.
Reminder: on 2/12, welcome the Year of the (Metal) Ox! Wear a fragrance that represents diligence, dependability, loyalty, honesty and hard work.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Guerlain AA Pamplelune.
Almost on my way out to take a very bad injured dove to a Wildlife Rescue and Rehab Center. I found her last night on my bedroom window sill. I think she was attacked by a predator. I hope she survives, but I am not a bird expert. I feel very, very sad about it.
Having my second cup of coffee and a toast with honey.
Have a healthy and peaceful Friday, everyone! ?
You’re a good egg.
Truly
I’ll third it.
Poor birdie. 🙁 How kind of you to care for her. Happy Friday to you too!
Glad birdie has you there!
♥
Scent twins! Thank you for taking care of the dove❤️
Oh good luck to your neighbor bird.
How kind of you to care for her! Thank you for doing that.
That’s so upsetting! I’ve been in your situation before a few times and now exactly how you feel. It’s hard to be so empathic towards living beings in distress. Sending you a virtual hug!
oh, poor dove! You are so kind, thank you for taking care of her!
I’ve been in that position also, so difficult to see animals suffering.
Oh, I hope the dove makes it!
Poor bird, kind you.♥️
You are a star, hope she makes it.
Bless you, pl67! I always think people who go out of their way to help an animal in distress are the epitome of kindness.
Aww, hope she survives 🙁 please let us know if you are able to follow her progress.
You’re a friend to animals in need!
You are so very kind.
Good luck!
I used to have a couple of grapefruit-forward scents, YSL In Love Again and Lagerfeld Photo, but I hunted for them this morning and who knows where they’ve gone — I must have swapped them away ages ago because they didn’t get much wear. So I’m in my only grapefruit scent, Lush Ectoplasm, an extra burst of sunshine on this cold, sunny morning.
You don’t own CSP Pamplemousse? Going to check to see if I still have that.
Despite the shocking number of CSPs I own, I never did get, or even try, the Pamplemousse. I have the Orange, Pineapple, Abricot, and Peach, though, so I’m pretty well covered fruitwise.
I had In Love Again as well and while it was nice, I am just not a citrus person so it got swapped.
I’m in Nomenclature Shihso, which does not officially have a grapefruit note, but the opening seems very grapefruity to me.
Then points!
I’m wearing 4160 Tuesdays Clouds, which has bergamot. That’s as close as I’m willing to get to grapefruit, one of my nemesis notes. :-). Super excited as I am getting my first haircut since July today. My husband also got his first Covid vaccine Wednesday. Happy Friday!
That’s great! Will you get to receive a vaccine soon too, do you think? Crossing my fingers that you get them quickly so you can migrate north at the right time!
I’m only 54, so not eligible yet, but he’s over 65 so he was able to get his.
Happy Haircut Day! Hope it goes well.
Glad your hubby got the vaccine! And jealous of your haircut!
Yay for haircuts and vaccines! I am amused at how willing I am to be extra shaggy for an extra long time these days!
Hooray! That’s a great day for both of you.
Yay for your husband and your haircut! Hope your puppy is feeling better too.
Thanks! The haircut is great and Mila puppy is feeling a lot better. 🙂
Congrats on both counts! My last haircut was in July, too, and I really need one but I want that darn vaccine first (I’m eligible) – but that’s virtually impossible here no matter how often/hard you try all the websites/phones unless you just luck out.
Great news about the vaccine! And I love Clouds. You smell wonderful!
Thank you, I love Clouds so much.
Hope that your haircut is all that you were hoping for/expecting! And great news about your husband.
I feel like a new person. My hair has been so bad for so long, I was feeling really homely. The wrinkles are still there but at least my hair is nice!
I once heard someone call wrinkles “experience lines”. I stole that expression right then and there.
Great news!
Great news all around!
I went with Eau de Pamplemousse Rose for today. It suits my mood as I’m feeling rather cheerful at having gotten a full night’s sleep three nights in a row — something that hasn’t happened in at least six years!
Wow – I’m jealous of your sleep. Good for you!
Yay for sleep!! I hope some day I can get to that point too.
Three nights of good sleep – hooray! Makes life seem worth living, doesn’t it?
Wow, here’s hoping for #4!
I was planning to wear Balle de Match today, but decided to continue with discovery sets. Today I am in HdP 1828, which my discovery set (which I’ve had for years) says is for Jules Verne. Good enough.
I thought about BdM for today. Maybe tomorrow!
Hello dear friends, I got my CP points earlier in the week with Eau de Pamplemousse Rose. Today I am noncompliant in Lost Cherry! And feeling good because it’s Fri-YAY!
Once a quarter, we have a really big, scary meeting, with lots of VP-types and such. Yesterday was the first time I had to present at this meeting, and I’ve been incredibly stressed out about it all week. But it went great! I feel so relieved! Afterwards, my manager and I remotely drank glasses of wine together 🙂 (my presentation ended at 6pm, so it wasn’t that outrageous) And THEN, she called me with some good news, and told me I had gotten a promotion! Woohoo! So it was a good evening all around 🙂 We celebrated with copious Chinese takeout and more wine.
Congratulations on a job well done (and a promotion to boot!)
Congratulations!
Congratulations all the way around!
Congratulations Koyel!
Terrific news, congratulations! What a way to kick off the weekend.
Congratulations! WOot!
Congratulations!! That’s great.
Congrats! Surely, a celebratory perfume purchases is in order? 🙂
That’s so awesome, high five!!
Wow, talk about payoff from a good presentation. Congratulations! That’s wonderful. Are you planning to celebrate this weekend?
Koyel, what good news – congrats!
Wow, good news
Yay congratulations and you smell great!
Congratulations, fantastic! Nice to celebrate with wine and good food!
Congrats!! I hate presentations too. But sounds like it worked out great.
Well done and I’m sure you deserve it.
Congratulations!
Great news! Joining you in ?to celebrate your successful presentation and promotion!?
Congratulations Koyel! That’s great!
Most excellent news! Congratulations!
Thank you very much everyone <3 what sweet support from you all!
Good for you, Koyel, that’s great news.
Congratulations on all of it! I hope you’re feeling properly proud about your presentation — I know how anxiety-inducing those can be, and it’s wonderful that it went well and that you can recognize your own success! <3
Oral presentations can be so nerve wracking. Congrats on getting it done, and on your promotion! This absolutely calls for a celebratory bottle of perfume. ?
You smell wonderful and that’s awesome news–congrats on the promotion!!! I’m always so relieved when my presentations are over.
Congratulations and “Prost!” ??? A promotion just *might* call for a celebration perfume. But keeping up on a “No Buy” is also rather awesome…
Huge yay, go Koyel!
Congratulations, that is wonderful! Way to go!
So happy for all the success you shared here! “Clinks virtual glass.”
Congratulations!
Congrats!!!
Congratulations, that’s fantastic!
WOOT!
Awesome! Congratulations!
Woo hoo! Congratulations!
Congratulations, Koyel!
Congratulations! 🙂
Rose Ikebana today. I am not sure whether it officially has grapefruit, but I get grapefruit and rhubarb with the rose. I am not much of a rose fragrance lover, but I do like this one (and my Mille & Une Roses). TGIF.
That’s such a good one; you smell great!
I also remember it having a grapefruity quality, but I just couldn’t with Rose Ikebana because the rhubarb took over, drowning out everything with its astringency. I love a rose scent but that just didn’t do it for me. (I like rhubarb well enough in scents: B*Men has a good dose of it in the top and it’s gorgeous. But something about the Hermès did not work for me. My mom really liked it, though.)
I have to be in just the right mood to put up with the dryness of a rhubarb note!
Yes! FriYAY – we are in for a cold weekend! I’m not to much of a rose lover either, but a surprising rose love is Black Perfecto edt – have you tried that? It’s almost perfume-math free at Frag’net, too.
My bottles have been put away for the winter but I have a small sample of L’Artisan Eau de Jatamansi out so I will sniff it throughout the day. Even though it is centered on jatamansi/spikenard and woods accord, it has a beautiful citrus opening with a very prominent grapefruit note.
This is the original, all natural, cologne version that came in giant, frosted glass bottles. I loved this scent and I was really sad when they discontinued it, event though I managed to procure several backup bottles of it. The new version, which L’Artisan brought out later on, was a powdery lavender scent, totally not my thing. I know the original had many fans so I don’t understand why they nixed it, but then, very few things L’Artisan did recently made sense to me..
I never understand why houses discontinue clearly popular scents.
It’s incomprehensible to people who love the scents, but in the end it always comes down to money: they think of them as commodities, where we think of them as works of art. Most every product that hits the market is given a seemingly arbitrary minimum profit level, and if it doesn’t reach that, it’s chopped.
Remember what the LVMH beancounters did to the Fendi fragrance arm: they bought it up in the early 2000s, killed the entire line — Life Essence, the original Fendi, the much-beloved Theorema, the lot — in 2007, launched Palazzo, killed that 18 months later (it was supposed to earn $50 million in its first year and didn’t), launched Fan di Fendi in 2010 and added a few others, and then killed all of those in 2015. Why? Because they “did not meet the expectations of the company,” which is to say that they were insufficiently profitable. Not that they were losing money, not that they weren’t popular: just that they weren’t selling at the same kind of markup as dry goods or champagne or whatever.
Well said – you have to wonder, though: did they smell the wonderful scents, and just not care??? And was there no brave soul to stick up for the scent? I hope I would have, if I’d work there!
They just didn’t care. It’s like the publishing industry, or probably most any other: there are people who genuinely love books and reading and authors, and then there are the money people to whom it’s all just commodities, things to be sold for profit. Literally all they can see is the bottom line. Is it profitable? Nothing else matters. And if a scent or whatever doesn’t hit its targets, well, it doesn’t matter how much people love it: it’s gone.
You need a certain amount of money-mindedness to run a successful business, obviously, but what a sad way to live your life, when art and talent and beauty are irrelevant except to the degree that they can make you money.
I’m with you, I’m still annoyed at LVMH, I’m glad I have a bottle of Fendi, Life Essence, Asja, and Theorema.
*blows raspberries in LVMH’s direction*
I nearly wore Jour d’Hermes today, but since I wore it earlier this week AND for the 2015 edition of this CP, today’s choice is Memo Kedu. Apparently my skin amplifies musks because it puts itself forward of other notes (on me) in lots of perfumes, and it’s not usually a note I care much for, but in Kedu it’s not so bad – in fact, it’s really nice. The grapefruit is quite identifiable, and the toasted sesame seed note is beginning to peek out too. Nice.
What an interesting combination of notes. I must try that sometime!
No pineapple, but my son is having Nutella for lunch. I’m wearing Hypnotic Poison.
You and your son have great taste 🙂
Yum, you smell fantastic!
Don’t have anything with grapefruit in it but wearing Deneuve ext for the 2nd day in a row. Can’t wait for spring to arrive, need some warm weather.
I second your desire for spring!
It *looks* like spring here today, but I keep taking off my sweater and then starting to shiver…
I’m wearing Lubin Grisette today for the CP. I think I’m the only person who loves this one, but I really love it. Rose+ grapefruit is one of my favorite combos, and something magical happens on my skin with this one. Should probably get a second FB and toss it in the back of the fridge before the discontinue it.
Drinking Adagio’s Capricorn tea.
I just read LuckyScent’s write-up of Grisette, and it sounds really lovely!
Now I’m going to have to pull out my sample of this one; I tried it and didn’t pay enough attention (too many samples to play with)…I do recall that I enjoyed it.
SOTM Au Dela Narcisse. Didn’t even try for the CP. I need some spring today! I can’t put my finger on why, but it’s been a very hard week for me. I’m not sleeping well; I feel like I need to hole up somewhere for a week and hibernate. It IS the first week of 2nd semester, and I have all new-to-me students. Developing new routines and making connections takes time. But I guess I’d hope that after 15 or so years, I’d be pretty ok with the process! Maybe it has nothing to do with work. I dunno.
At least I smell good. 🙂
We had our first week of second semester 3 weeks ago, and it hit me in exactly the same way. Trying to build all new online connections is exhausting. Take it easy on yourself this weekend.
Thank you, sistine! I was really enjoying my last group of kiddos. It’s definitely hard work to start over. I’ll try to be nice to myself. Maybe skip the Super Bowl. 😀
I’ve been having similar angst lately, Marjorie Rose, so you’re not alone. In my case, it seems to be a result of the juxtaposition of so much going on (in the world at large, and in my own little corner of it), and being stuck in the house not really being able to BE in the world … if that makes any sense.
It is so hard to not share these events and times with the world, in our communities! I’m so very introverted, I don’t think it hits me very often, but when it does, it is difficult to make peace with the fact that there are so few options for sharing these moments with others.
Oh you smell wonderful! Teaching is HARD and you are patently an invested and caring teacher; I’m sure it’s draining getting new students and having to figure out how you’ll all fit together this semester considering the upending of the general world. It’s no wonder it’s taking a lot out of you! *Hugs*
You are very sweet. Thank you!
You smell great!
Diptyque Tempo today. No grapefruit listed in the notes, but it’s reminding me of Sel de Vetiver for some reason, which I KNOW has grapefruit! So half a point for me?
In the spirit of Pixel, FREEBIE ALERT! I have a MEMO sample collection up for grabs: African Leather, Oriental Leather, Russian Leather, Inle, Jannat, Lalibela, Siwa, and Sundance.
Please dibs below, and you can DM me through Instagram (in my profile), or sarahbneuner in the gee male. I can likely mail next week sometime.
Dibs thank you:)
You got it!
You smell great…I love Tempo and need to wear it more often.
You smell wonderful – I have been “Tempo-ted” to get an FB when my sample is gone….
Wait, Sel de Vetiver has grapefruit?! I never knew! Could’ve worn that this week too…
I went pretty literal this morning with BBW Grapefruit body spray. I will have to augment this with something else since the BBW seems to have lost it’s ooomph.
Happy Friday everyone!
Sounds perfect, even if it didn’t last! Hope your Friday is working out.
Project Sample Swoop is proceeding apace. In Le Labo Vetiver 46 today, which at one point was in contention for second LL buy (so far only FB has been Patchouli 24). Vetiver 46 started out smelling like hot candle wax and know I am getting cedar or something else woody.
My fave Le Labo, and only FB, is Lys 41, which is a buttery tuberose. We got bath products scented with Santal-whatever-number, which I liked at first, but then it was just TOO MUCH.
I am wearing Chanel Paris Riviera today. I am getting some grapefruit notes from it, even though its not listed as one of the notes on Chanel’s website. Also, currently drinking my third cup of Fujian Autumn Oolong tea this morning.
That tea sounds sumptuous.
Scent: following Robin’s example with DSH Pamplemousse. I really like it, but I’m having trouble smelling it. I think I need to pour most of the sample on my arm to really explore it. Wow, I’d hate to ‘waste it’. Meanwhile, I’ve got her site open in another browser window.
Also, it took longer than expected to find it, and of course I opened a different sample as I was digging, so my hands smell pretty good. Tag had turned gray, though, so I don’t know what it is.
Coffee right now.
Other: I might need to rethink how my kitchen cabinets are organized. Good winter project if I can figure it out. The tea collection occupies an awful lot of space. This may be justified ?.
OMG. We bought our house a couple years ago, and it took me WEEKS to organize the kitchen. I think my husband thought I was overthinking it, but honestly, it makes a huge difference how things are laid out! I actually thought it was kinda fun, like rearranging the furniture. Makes you feel like you have more space. 🙂
We’ve been in the same house for a LONG time. We’ve moved into a different life phase, but I didn’t give any thought to the fact that our needs have shifted, but the kitchen arrangement has not. It makes a difference, and the feeling of more space would be awesome!
When we were packing up our house, I discovered 5 ice cream scoops. We had much discussion about which ones to donate to Goodwill. 🙂
Layout/organization is super important. I need to re-do the shoe/perfume closet but am procrastinating…
I’m with you on procrastination!
I put on Yvresse this morning, but that doesn’t have any grapefruit in it, so I splashed some Guerlain Cologne Imperiale on my wrists only to remember that doesn’t have any grapefruit in it either. So I am very fruity this morning, but not grape-fruity.
You smell lovely, none the less!
Good morning and Happy FriYAY!
No brainer pick today….went with Hermes Eau de Pamplemousse Rose. According to my online diary, I haven’t worn my sample since 2017?? WOW. It’s so good! I will pull it out again come spring time….
Is there a good app out there for perfume diaries?
Hi there! I use Basenotes.net to track my usage. Everyday I post my SOTD, and it records it in my profile. Also records whether I have a bottle or sample, and my rating if I want to enter it…..
oh, I didn’t realize it kept track! i assumed it was like fragrantica and just replaced the old one with the new one
I also keep track on Basenotes, and really like it. Seconding the recommendation of the site.
In Iris Torrefie again. Belated birthday present and finding I really enjoy it. I’m in an iris kick! The Guerlain Art et la Matiere line has some very nice ones. Wish it was more affordable.
I am so tempted by the new Shalimar Philtre de Parfum but learned the hard way never to blind buy. However the reviews are so glowing.. has anybody tried it? I wish I could go to a mall and sniff it!
I wanted to try this but when I went to sniff the boutique closed early..:(
Shame! I missed it too right after it came into the stores, then we got total lockdown.
You smell wonderful…if only Iris Torrefie had a bit more sillage, it could have been a love for me. I will see how I feel when I thunk my decant, but it may not make it to FB status. Unless deal….somewhere!
Waiting on a sample from Bergdorf Goodman, will report once I’ve tried it.
I didn’t think BG was getting it. That said, I requested a LARGE sample via ShopFrance although no guarantee of getting it.
You’re right, I was confused and thinking of L’Initial which is now in the bee bottle.
Vee’s mention of Grisette reminded me that I have a sample of it. So, it will be my SOTD! I’ve only tried it once before and remember really liking it.
I’ve been doing a lot of revisiting my sample stash after reading Kevin’s article. I’ve tossed quite a few which have evaporated and identified many to use up. It was very satisfying!
Yay for twins!
I need to do the sample culling as well but I have quite a few other things to tackle first.
I have not had much love for grapefruit.
I was thinking, Guerlain should do body sprays..sometimes I want a light Guerlain puff. Lol
Commando..but craving Samsara
I have Shalimar hair mist, it’s lovely! Just enough to waft without overwhelming.
Did you end up in Samsara after all?
I got soaked walking the dog in the rain this morning, so I wanted something cozy – definitely not grapefruit! I’m wearing Eau Duelle. I don’t wear it often, but every time I do it’s just perfect.
Our district has announced that students will begin returning to buildings on Feb. 17. I can’t wait to meet my students in person!
That sounds wonderful!!
Sorry you got soaked, but that’s great news about meeting your students!
Great news that you’ll get to see your students!
Hi all, and happy Fri-YAY! My SOTD is Guerlain AA Pamplelune, love this grapefruit and patch scent.
We are loving the new apartment, it’s so much quieter. SmokeyToes is so relaxed and playful, he’s less on edge than previously.
Planning a week of healthy breakfasts, found Canadian dietitian Abbey Sharp – she’s fantastic! All sorts of heart-healthy and delicious recipes.
I just finished reading Beyond The Messy Truth by Van Jones (well-written, illustrates the issues and concerns of both sides), A Curse So Dark and Lonely book 1 of Cursebreaker series by Brigid Kemmerer (a fantasy take on Beauty and The Beast, fun read). I tried to finish Tuesday the Rabbi Saw Red but I just couldn’t get into it. So I put that one down.
Currently reading A Heart so Fierce and Broken (book 2 of Cursebreaker series) by Brigid Kemmerer.
About to start We’re Better Than This by Elijah Cummings, D-Day Girls by Sarah Rose, and Grounded, by congressman Jon Tester.
I’m about to explore a walk through the neighborhood and head to San Bruno park! TTFN!
*MEEP MEEP*
ST-we are on the same book wagon.
I am impatiently waiting for A vow so bold and deadly to come into my hands to finish off the series. I am pretty sure I fell in love with Grey <3
Another Young Adult fantasy series I just finished Shadow & Bone, and waiting to read the next two books. Netflix will do a series on this one in April. https://www.netflix.com/title/80236319 (no affiliation )
A girlfriend of mine dropped off a book called the Vanishing Half by Brit Bennet and she seems to think I will love this one.
Also if you are a fan of Jhumpa Lahiri she is releasing a book this year. I just got an email from 92Y that they are doing a talk with her in April I think
All those books are now in my queue! Happy Friday!
Good news about your new place and SmokeyToes being happier and friskier!
Glad you all are enjoying the new place! Thank you for the reading list!
Yay for SmokeyToes feeling fine in his new digs!
Jour d’Hermes Absolu for the CP today. This is such a pretty, happy perfume that I enjoy in any season. Glad to have an excuse to wear it. ?
I love Jour d’Hermes – you smell fantastic!
I almost picked this. You smell glorious, and i agree- this is a lovely uplifting scent for ALL YEAR.
Chanel Boy, after someone here mentioned it has grapefruit in it. I can’t find it, but that doesn’t mean much.
I’m in a moral quandary this morning: while looking for tile for our upcoming bathroom remodel, I went to a small-ish local place that we had bought from before. The woman took time to show me tile etc., and I finally settled on a couple that can work. When she priced them out for me, the total cost is double that of other places, partially because of a large shipping fee. It would literally be cheaper for me to write her a check for $100 as a thank you for consulting with me, and ordering the tile elsewhere. Since the order is small, this would also make her more $$ than if I bought from her, I believe. But – that’s kind of a weird thing to do, especially since I don’t know her that well. I was willing to pay more for buying from her, but not double. Not sure what to do.
Perhaps you can purchase something else from her, as a thank you gesture?
this is a good idea – but they only sell flooring, pretty much. I think I should have known better. It’s a high-end place, so had I picked a high-end choice, the price difference would not matter as much. It’s not a high end bathroom or a high end house, I should add. 🙂
From my experience with This Starter House(tm), the minute you walk into a smaller, non HD or Lowe’s , specialized flooring/kitchen place, be prepared to pay double what you think, and be prepared to pay ALL shipping & loading fees. It’s how these smaller places can compete with the big guys, especially if you are doing a small order of tile that has to be shipped, rather than what is in stock. The great thing about these places is that if you want something very niche, like Paperstone, Neolithic products or Ann Klein tile, these small places will have it and can set up orders for you!
Yes, I wish they had had an appealing tile that was boutique enough to warrant the extra mile! They had one I loved, but my daughter vetoed that one.
Now my pick can also be found pretty much everywhere, it turns out. It’s a small bathroom, which is why the shipping makes a big difference. Basically, I could pay $200 in one place vs. $480 from her. Big difference, and she doesn’t make $280 profit, I’m sure.
Double for the exact same thing or are they just that much more expensive? My quandary is always smaller because it’s going to a store to try out perfumes and buying them online.
It’s the same tile. It’s just that it’s widely available, it turns out, and larger stores don’t have the shipping fee.
Oh boy.
Hajusuuri – I have the same perfume conundrum – especially since online is sometimes even 60 or 75% less. I feel like I could swallow more expensive but THAT much more expensive? And then yeah – I know – rent, testers, sales assistants etc etc etc…
I do try to consolidate my purchases for the best discount … but I wish I had a crystal ball re: discount codes.
I didn’t feel bad when I would go to a big department store and try fragrances (and I made an effort not to waste the time of some hopeful sales associate) then order them for less online. Now that I don’t go to department stores at all, I try to get samples or discovery sets, then order either directly from the perfumer (so many independents sell directly, like DSH, St. Clair, Jeffrey Dame, etc., which means they keep more of what you spend) or from an independent online business. Speaking of which, Twisted Lily, which closed its brick and mortar store but is open for business online, is having a special sale this weekend on a select group of “Valentine’s” scents with the code VDAY14. So there’s a way to support small business!
I actually do try to order directly from the perfumers directly … including all the ones you listed. Thanks for the Twisted Lily code … will take a look this weekend.
How does one actually look at which scents are discounted? The only valentine’ special I see on the site is for a special sample set?
Here is my thought on this. It is her job to show you what she has to sell, and hopefully convince you to buy it. You shopped for the best price on what you need. She doesn’t have it. You don’t owe her anything. You shouldn’t feel bad. I understand wanting to support small business, but double the price seems a little unreasonable.
This is what I think as well.
Oh good, because I felt like a big meany, lol.
She must surely be aware that the tile you chose is widely available and cheaper elsewhere. I would buy from the cheapest place (see Lillyjo’s comment).
You could always tell her “I know we’re all doing the best we can for ourselves right now, but I did do some price shopping, and I can order the same tiles from other retailers for $xxx because it is quite commonly available. However, since you took the time with me I’d love to still place the order with you if you’re able to price match it. Is that a possibility?”
Chanel Boy
Simpson & Vail green tea
Since the temperature today is not freezing and the light is starting to change a bit I am in the mood for spring, so I am wearing this top, which may shock you, I bought on sale and not at a thrift store. I thought I it would be a nice top to pair with Songes when I bought it.
https://images.app.goo.gl/mZWiaJ2sb9CJ372g8
Twins! Nice top – reminds me a teeny bit of some of the Sundance tops (yours might be more elegant), which you can find on Poshmark for often very good prices…
Yes! I use to get that catalog. The southwestern vibe is very cool and sexy , also love the jewelry. Also love Robert Redford, but he sold it I think, and now is just has a small part in that company.
for some reason I don’t quite understand, Sundance stuff is often very reasonable on Poshmark. I find it interesting how some brands retain their value used so much more than others.
Happy Friday!
Modern Muse Nuit today. Lots of heliotrope, jasmine and patchouli in the opening…patiently waiting for the vanilla to appear. 😉
Did the vanilla appear?
Roma today, which smells like grapefruit to my nose. Still under the weather, I think I will stay at home at least til Wednesday.
Sorry to hear you’ve been ill. Just read your previous post and wanted to add my good wishes for a full recovery. Please take good care of your self and don’t do too much too soon.
I read about your illness last night and I’m very happy to hear you’re getting better.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better.
Roma! Wish I’d worn that. It does indeed have a spike of grapefruit in the opening. Lovely!
Probably a good idea.
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Pomelo Paradis
Not quite weather-appropriate but I am indoors. It’s a nice grapefruit Vetiver and I’m sure my 8 sprays will last me all day. And double points for me!

I am in my constant “cleaning” mode but the house still looks like a mess. Forging ahead though because if I don’t do anything, it will just get worse. I’ve also done a little bit of reorganizing (of the pantry) but will really need to just give away stuff I moved from the pantry to the basement. And no sparking joy method for me #mariekondofail, which reminds me there hasn’t been much talk of this method! Is it dead?
I have learned to look away in our house, though I did wash the nice wood floors last weekend (the ugly ones only get vacuumed).
This is my philosophy because Mr. Teebear has a VERY different definition of clean and organized compared to me. I have learned to compromise, and he has learned that when I hit my breaking point nothing is sacred except his designated office space and he’ll just have to ask me where things have otherwise migrated to ?
You’ve trained him well ?
I wish I could. I should set a goal for safe passage if God-forbid there’s a power outage at night and I am without a flashlight!
Love your Instagram photo today, it’s super cheery!
As for Kondo, I do feel like I still see her name come up. She has a line of organizing products now, maybe with the Container Store? But I agree the initial frenzy has died down, maybe most have Kondo’d-out!
Thank you. And for some reason, her definition of organization did not mesh with mine.
Good luck with your ongoing project. Re Kondo I think it was overhyped at the beginning, and also it’s not something one does everyday.
Very true but “sparking joy” feels like a life affirming comment. I remember reading helpful hints (not Marie Kondo) that one should never leave a room without picking up something. At that rate, I’ll still be lamenting the state of my house.
What I liked most was thanking the things for their service before de cluttering them.
Thank you hajusuuri for the inspiration – I forgot I had a sample of Pomelo Paradis. It’s lovely and cheery on this gray day.
It sure is … it did turn sunny late morning through day’s end.
Hey, I liked your “musical selection of the day” earlier on this week! ?
And re: The Kondo method, I think it was done to death, and jumped the shark at some point. (Holy mixed metaphor, Batman!)
Haha!
Woo hoo ?
Twins! The Condo fad does seem to have passed, although I do hear jokes about sparking joy.
I do like the term “sparking joy” except not in the context of slash and burn.
I’m not much of a grapefruit fan, but I like “notes” projects, it’s fun to see how many interpretations of one thing get loved around here.
I went for ELDO Remarkable People because I have that giant discovery box from them I’ve barely touched. It is…not exactly remarkable!
I had that sample – agree with you, in fact, I even disliked it.
It’s not *scrub-worthy*…but I do typically give a sample two wears before I dump it in the giveaway bin, and I don’t think this will get the honor.
How funny, I love it! But I get a lot of curry from it, which makes me very happy.
I like it more in the dry-down once the curry side comes out! I can see the appeal to people who aren’t grouchy with grapefruit!
Remarkable People was a horrifying scrubber on me!
Very much not feeling it. Will be changing to Pomelo Paradis when I get home
Glad that you have something else waiting for you at home!
Happy Friday!
1) SOTD: Zara x Jo Malone Vetiver Pamplemousse – super clean, simple grassy/grapefruit rind scent. Really clean & fresh, very crisp clean white cotton shirt sort of smell. Very uplifting! VERY affordable – $26. I would suggest this for now until spring- I find this very light, airy and uplifting for the greys of February.
2) Despite spending THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS in January for a new washer dryer and fencing, ya girl is looking at new carpet samples for upstairs. It is bulk builders special carpet now, and it is now rather worn. I am just looking for now, as jobs are now scheduled about 2-2 1/2 months OUT. I am trying to decide between cut pile or berber carpet with the design. Either way, I think I will need to replace a couple of sheets of underflooring plywood- it has buckled due to moisture, and while I did a temp fix of nailing it, it should be replaced.
Ede, what size is your Zara? Here that range only comes in 100mls and I think the last time I checked it was about $55? Given how many brisk citrus/vetivers I have I decided it might not be worth another at that price but I might reconsider 😀
I have the 40mL ( about 1.3 ounces) but given the amount of citrusy scents that this line has, it’s enough!
That’s the thing – I have waaaay too many citruses. But 40mls is a bottle size I could get down with.
Twins! I started out with Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, then switched to the Zara. I was able to order the discovery set of the Emotions Collection online at the Zara USA website, Merlin. Not sure if you have the equivalent. I was so frustrated last year when that collection was available online only in the UK and Europe! It finally landed in the US a few months ago. I was intrigued by it because I have and love some of Jo Loves’ fragrances under that brand name, and the collection was a collaboration between Jo Loves and Zara.
The discovery set I think is worth it and Zara had it on special for Christmas!
Unfortunately South Africa doesn’t have the equivalent. We DID receive this series a long time before America, but as I mentioned, only in 100ml bottles – no 40mls or travel sizes or samples of it. Also, many laud the men’s tobacco series and we didn’t get any of those either.
SotD = Jour d’Hermes
maybe there’s grapefruit? Definitely some sunny citrus tickling my nose at the moment.
Spent most of this week sniffing and dabbing from a bottle of frankincense essential oil that came my way. Very nice, but it only lasts a few hours.
Gosh, it’s been a long week. So glad it’s FriYAY! Can’t wait to turn my attention to the important things, starting with some perfume therapy.
Hope you have a good day, perfume people 🙂
Definitely a grapefruit top note there in all the versions of Jour that I have smelled!
yay! thank you for confirming. 🙂 I love all citrus.
I recently picked up a lovely 15ml bottle of Jour d’Hermes at Plato’s Closet – did not know it would be CP compliant for today – will have to check it tomorrow.
There is a Plato’s closet near me. I should visit sometime soon, especially if there might be perfume to sniff.
I hope you enjoy Jour d’Hermes. It is one of my favorites. Easy to wear, always makes me smile. 🙂
NST’ers should check out the perfumes a Plato’s Closet, which for years I thought only sold size 2 clothes for coeds! One day I walked in looking for a gift, saw a “feature” glass case and: that was how I got a bottle of Fracas. I’ve since seen Cinema, a Jo Malone, No. 5, Narciso – don’t always buy, but it’s at a shopping center I use anyway. I suspect in our area, young people are gifted non-ozonic scents, and prefer to convert them to designer clothes.
I’m wearing Guerlain AA Pamplelune like a couple others here. It might be an obvious choice, but I really enjoy wearing it. I do like the floral heart as well.
Honorable mention: The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit shower gel is also very nice.
my friends have that soap in their guest bathroom – always a nice walk down memory lane when I smell the pink grapefruit, I think it’s been around forever!
Than I must try other products from the range!
SotD Etruscan water, again. Because it (supposedly) has grapefruit.
I like/love everything about it but that mossy/musky drydown is the best!
While lots of perfumes lose their appeal after first phases, Bianchis perfumes often save the best for last.
SotE is Azemour les Orangers….
Ha! Grapefruit again, though I mostly get mandarin and orange. And moss….and thumbs up for the spices in this. Very uplifiting!
Look at you, compliant day and night. I have a sample of Etruscan water which I have smelled from the dabber but not yet on skin.
Happy Friday!
Rocking Dom Rosa today – champagne, grapefruit and roses. That cocktail makes me weekend ready.
Never a bad thing for a Friday ?
At least a third one here in Guerlain Pamplelune. I forget how much I like it.
Also, thanks for the tips yesterday about managing my UTI, the AZO really helped and the antibiotics are kicking in. I feel much better today.
Missed that post but hope the tips work and you feel better soon.
Glad to hear that.
I’m glad you’re starting to feel better!
Great news 🙂
So glad the AZO worked. I should have mentioned it’s for pain, and is not a replacement for meds. Feel better soon!
Feel better soon!
Post-shower, I’ll wear Jour d’Hermes Absolu for the morning.
Kanuka gave me her partially used bottle a few years ago. Like others here, I’m hoping all the best for her. I emailed her as soon as read her post here last weekend, but haven’t heard back yet.
Hugs, Gaynor.
Good to know people are reaching out to Kanuka!
Hi everyone! I’m a longtime reader but haven’t commented much. However, I’m now on vacation for the next week and a half, and since I can’t really go anywhere, I’m chiming in for fun! It is very cold here in Chicago and will get even colder this weekend, but the sun is bright and shining off the snow, which makes me happy.
I’m in Demeter Grapefruit Tea today. The name says it all. Simple but nice.
Hi, fellow Chicagoan and welcome! At least the ☀️Is shining brightly on us today!
Thank you! Yes, Chicago winters are usually so gray and gloomy that I really appreciate the sun when it makes an appearance!
Keep warm and there’s nothing like sunshine even if it’s cold.
Absolutely! 🙂
Hello! I love Chicago. I’d love to visit some time soon.
It’s a fun place to visit during normal times! Lots of things to do and see.
Hiya socks!
Hi Jalapeno!
Welcome!
Thank you!
Hurray for vacation, even if it’s cold! I hope you’ll comment more!
Thanks! I’ll try!
Hello from Southern Indiana – we have that same weather: after a while, bitter cold with sun is very welcome over weeks of grey gloom – especially when one is at work all day and leaves in the dark and gets home in the dark – whew!
Hi state neighbor! Yeah I’m so tired of the dreary, overcast days we usually get. I hate dark commutes too, but at least now the days are getting longer.
Welcome! I haven’t tried many Demeters yet and probably should.
Thanks! Demeters are a cheap thrill.
Welcome socks! I love Chicago, having been there for both business and pleasure.
Thank you! Yep it’s always interesting, even when the weather’s not ;).
In POAL, which I disliked for many years. Then one day I liked it (like cilantro and oysters 🙂 ). Fickle nose. I have one of those 3.5 ml testers, and it is enough–powerful stuff.
You smell sumptuous.
POAL is a powerhouse!
You smell wonderful, and I had the same experience with cilantro. The first time I tried it was *bad.* Now I eat it readily.
Reading this week’s posts I noticed that several NST’ers admitted that like me they weren’t fond of grapefruit as a scent note. I will readily admit that it is one of the few fragrance notes I actively dislike and avoid. And I also noticed that Robin is awarding extra points for wearing a fragrance with ‘grapefruit’ in its name.
Well, I hereby suggest that those of us who dislike grapefruit as a note and wear a fragrance that contains it but that you can’t smell it deserve extra, extra points, and I will claim those extra points twice today! For daytime, I’m wearing Dame Perfumery Black Flower Mexican Vanilla and tonight I will deepen that with a few spritzes of SJP Stash – both, according to fragrantica, contain a grapefruit note but which I am happy to report I do not smell! ?. And both are favorites of mine. So I’m quite pleased with myself today! ?
Like much of the country, especially those of you on the East Coast, we’re buried in snow and bitter cold, but the ☀️is shining brightly, the sky is a clear blue, and many birds are gracing our feeders. This week I’m taking my inspiration from England’s ‘Captain Tom,’ who passed away this week at the age of 100, after gaining fame from shuffling up and down his garden in 100 laps during the spring lockdown to raise money for healthcare workers. I read in his obituary of his positive outlook on life that inspired many and that his trademark response no matter what was, “Please always remember, tomorrow will be a good day.” So that little bit of hope is what I’m trying to remember during these sometimes tough days, and that’s what I’m wishing for all of you, sent along with a ?.
Laila, thanks for that Sir Captain Tom quote. It made me smile. It also brought to mind one of my dad’s expressions, which was “Make it a good day.” As a temperamental teen, I didn’t exactly like it. But now, many years later, it’s a pleasant memory.
Thanks for sharing your pleasant memory, glad I could make you ?. And, yes, it’s ‘Sir’ Captain Tom; he was knighted in July. What a guy!
I don’t know who he is but I DO love that quote!
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/feb/02/captain-sir-tom-moore-dies-at-100-after-testing-positive-for-covid
Thanks for posting the link. He’s received so much publicity here in the U.S. from the time he did his 100 laps in the spring I just assumed everyone would know who he was.
Thank you for the link, had missed this Guardian article even though I’m in the UK, he was an inspiration.
He sure was!
Thanks for the links Jalapeno and Laila! Now I know 🙂
Now you know, thanks to the very thorough link Jalapeño posted. Here’s another one from the Chicago Trib that talks about his positive attitude. Apparently, his autobiography is also entitled with his trademark “Tomorrow will be a Better Day.” I’ll bet it’s fascinating, just added it to my books-to-read list.
Oops, forgot to paste the link!

Great report, Laila – RIP Captain Tom. And yes, Stash is a grapefruit perfume I can enjoy!
Glad I could help! I stumbled on that purely by chance and was so glad I did. Ditto for the BFMV I wore earlier today. Didn’t think I had anything with a grapefruit note!
Thank you for the thoughts about “Captain Tom.” It sounds like he had a good philosophy on life.
One of the perfume guides observes that grapefruit has a note of sulfur in it. That’s a possible reason why some folks aren’t into that category of fragrance. I enjoyed your argument about why you should get extra, extra points. 🙂
I’m comparing Guerlain AA Pamplelune on my left arm with Jour d’Hermes on the right. I’d previously given up on the AA because it went straight to stinky BO for me. This morning it smells pleasant with an underlying note of burned toast (???). Go figure! Maybe because we have cold weather (for us) today? The Jour is very pleasant but kind of too light and simple for my taste.
Continuing the citrus theme, yesterday I tried three really gorgeous ones from my new batch of Perris Monte Carlo that I got from Indigo. Each one goes on with the most fresh and vivid realistic burst of tangy juice! Mandarino is incredibly bright and sparkling at first and has a somewhat more bitter green/neroli feel as it continues. I don’t care for that side of the orange spectrum, too bad. Bergamotto is super juicy and kind of makes me pucker at the start and then has a quick and really soft dry down; it kind of disappeared on me. (I did not use 8 sprays, though. 😉 — Because, small sample.) The surprising favorite was the Arancia di Sicilia, which is a photorealistic orange at first but after awhile begins to go in a very warm and spicy direction, with noticeable cinnamon and some almond. (I did not get the coffee that is supposedly in there.) Although I sort of wish it worked as that gorgeous juicy orange all along, the actual smell was just so warm and delightful that I’m contemplating a FB. However, I have four other samples from them to try, and am not making a decision yet!
I forgot, I did try their Mimosa one also. It’s lovely, and as far as I remember, truly is a great recreation of the actual smell. For me, though, the smell is a bit too much on the sweet narcotic scale (even in the flowers) for me to really want this one. I think if you like mimosa you should definitely sample this one.
Arancia di Sicilia sounds amaaaazing!
It truly is!
That’s what usually goes wrong with grapefruit for me: it’s like stinky BO!
Yes, ugh!
I put in a reply to a comment just above that the scent of grapefruit has a sulfur note to it, or so the Perfume Guide folks say. That could be why you have an issue with it, if you’re picking up the sulfur aspect. 🙂
That would not help, LOL!
I’ve also tried the Arancia and recall liking it!
The Perris Monte Carlo fragrances sound lovely!
Started out with Un Jardin Sur Le Nil; going to switch to Zara’s Vetiver Pamplemousse, from the discovery set of the Emotions Collection (collaboration with Jo Loves, aka Jo Malone the person).
Vetiver Pamplemousse was the only one that really grabbed me but I’m not sure I tried them all. What do you think of the others?
I liked Ebony Wood a lot, to my surprise. I also like the Vetiver Pamplemousse, and Bohemian Bluebells, and Waterlily Tea Dress. But I have so many lovely florals that the latter two don’t really tempt me. The others in the set are fine, but I generally don’t care much for tuberose or patchouli, and I can take or leave orange blossom. Amalfi Sunray was nice and I need to give it a little more skin time.
Thanks for the feedback! I wish we got sample boxes here. I think Ebony Wood is rated very highly on a number of review sites. Given the notes I SHOULD have loved it but no. I didn’t actually try BB or WT because I rarely love such scents but some reviews of them do make them sound very nice.
Wearing Shalimar Parfum Initial l’Eau, with an exhilarating grapefruit in the opening, I usually wear it in summer but it’s made me happy all day, so I’m grateful for the CP. Idon’t think Guerlain will bring it back though, with my ridiculous BUB mania I have three bottles, but in this case I sort of feel justified.
This evening I’ve made applesauce with gala apples, so dessert is all sorted, no sugar but cooked with a tiny amount of rice bran oil for a caramelized effect.
Your applesauce sounds delish! ?
It was, mostly because the apples were truly good, even when I just get them at the supermarket instead of the farmers market, we have very good apples in England, you do too, wish I could share the applesauce with you.
I would have definitely appreciated it! ??
P.S. I think I figured out how to fix the issue with WordPress Reader, if anyone else stopped getting the NST feed: instead of telling it to follow nstperfume.com, I had to add /feed/ to the URL. It seems to be restored to my Reader feed now! Whew!
Hello!
I put on a bit of Atelier Cologne Pomelo Paradise before my bath, and am now in Demeter Pink Grapefruit. I’ve been craving grapefruit all this week. LOL!
We did get out to the grocery store on Wednesday, so that was good. I didn’t get grapefruit, but we got a lot of other things, including a bag of mandarins. It’s not the same, but I’m still getting my Vitamin C. 🙂
Take care, folks!
No grapefruits at your store, or they just didn’t look good?
Hi! There were other selections of fruit there that looked better, and some of those choices were relatively cheaper. I got a couple of Gala apples that looked good. I saw Gala apples mentioned above. 🙂 The one I just had was good. 🙂 I also got a container of cut-up melon, pineapple, grapes, and blueberries. That was not cheaper, but the fruit looked good.
When I wear citrus scents I DO crave citrus fruits, but FORTUNATELY sweet gourmands do not make me crave cakes and sweets! And in a twist – my summer craving for watermelon has made me wish for a watermelon scent!
Same here! Good gourmand smells feel more satisfying than candy and cake so they cover the ‘sweet’ need.
However this grapefruit thread has gotten me to smell my citrusy Aqua Allegorias and sent me to the fruit bowl for tangerines!
Eating fruits that have lots of Vitamin C is not a bad thing, especially if you live in a part of the world where it’s currently winter. Vitamin C is water-soluble. The body doesn’t build up an excess of it, just takes what it needs. Thumbs up for tangerines!
Honestly, I think I can overdo it. I went through a phase where I would eat 4 oranges straight off! On the other hand I don’t remember there being any negative effects it just seemed a bit extreme 😀
Regarding gourmands – I did once see some article online about how the smell of candy, cake etc DOES replace eating it. It was probably a small study though and I’m sure there ARE many people who react in the opposite way like neyonrose!
I’m sure there are some watermelon fragrances out there. 🙂
A new person posting here, a perfume-maker, made the comment a couple of weeks ago that the chocolate fragrances she created made her crave chocolate. That’s my reaction to smelling realistic chocolaty fragrances. But almost anything will make me crave chocolate. LOL!
Other candy sorts of scents don’t have quite that effect on me. I guess that’s fortunate. 😀 I haven’t necessarily tried fragrances that smell like cake, that I can think of. That would probably make me hungry…
Have a good weekend!
Apparently one of the Dolce & Gabanna Anthologies has watermelon – I think L’Imperatrice? However, it’s with a whole number of other things and I doubt it’s the sweet juicy vibrant smell I’m looking for. A melon note is much more common.
You might have better luck checking to see if Demeter has done a watermelon scent. 🙂
I think it was the sample of Un Jardin Sur le Toit I tried that had fruity notes that made me crave apples or pears…
I usually dislike apple notes but the one in Sur le Toit was lovely!
Another twin!
*Waves and smiles*
Got in a late celebration of Nutella Day. 🙂
Making a note of my bedtime scent of Guerlain AA Pamplelune, and my early morning scent: 7 Virtues Middle East Peace.
I really should wear the Atelier Cologne Pomelo Paradis (“Paradis” sans “e,” I see — I couldn’t remember) again soon. My nose was very dry before the humidity of my bath, and I know I didn’t get much of the effect. I could smell the Demeter Pink Grapefruit much better, and it wasn’t more than an hour later that I put that on.
Have a good weekend, folks!
I’m in AA Pamplelune, like many others. I spritzed a bit of this on my sister once, and she just about fell over. I, however, looove it.
Hubster is on his way out the door to get his first Covid vaccine. ??
Happy Fri-yay, everybody!
Big YAY for your hubby getting his first dose!
I know! I’m so relieved, and he has an appointment for the second dose. ?
My nose registers AA P as such a lovely soft refreshing scent that I just CANT get my head around the fact that some people are strongly averse.
Maybe if you have cats or have had them, then you’re more likely to get the unfortunate pee note? Not sure.
I wonder! I have also never clearly smelled that in blackcurrant scents. Though I love Lombre Dans Leau – I can somehow detect that it could be perceived in many more ways. Maybe that’s because the note profile is more complex – or because I get more of an acidic feel from it? But you are right – I am allergic to cats and have only ever owned dogs 😀
I like green perfumes unless they have masses of oakmoss and other blackcurrant perfumes but L Ombré Dans l’Eau I couldn’t take. It’s as you say very acid, in a very piercing not pleasant way to me. Go figure!
Cicely, you may like the edp more? It’s rounder and rosier…
Fri-YAY for the vaccine! I know that’s a big relief for you.
Joining the YAY. 🙂 My brother said he got the first shot a week ago, and Dad has an appointment to get his first shot of the vaccine on Tuesday. I felt more relief than I’d expected to about Dad starting the process. We worry about his health in general anyway, but it’s good to know that he’ll have protection against getting COVID.
I’m glad to hear your Dad has an appointment, neyronrose, and glad about your brother, too. It’s good to have a little bit of peace of mind. ?
Great news about your husband!
Best news of the whole week!
What about your vaccine?
I’m 59, so will have to wait.
Great about the vaccine! It makes me so happy to read/see/hear about people getting it.
It is good news for sure!
Yay for hubby getting the vaccine and an appointment for the 2nd shot. ?
Very big YAY!
I am wearing The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit today. It is a very refreshing scent, but not very long lasting. It was my only obvious grapefruit choice today!
I just realized I have the Pink Grapefruit Body Butter from TBS! I could have worn a bit of that today, too!
Gorgeous warm weather for winter here today! ??? Loads of melting going on. It’s not going to last, though. Latest forecast I saw this afternoon has the snow coming back on Sunday AND Tuesday. ⛄⛄⛄ Oh well, it IS winter. And my brother likes to point out that I had a whopping 0.3 inches of snow last year. I just keep telling myself that the snow and cold are killing pests that would otherwise be bugging me this coming summer. ????
SOTD = Alien Sunessence Edition Saphir Soleil EdT. I didn’t want to give up wearing Alien today, and it turns out that the topnotes for this version of Alien include grapefruit! And a lovely, sweet grapefruit note it is.
Great weather twins today! Also facing the possibility of more snow on Sunday! But… spring is around the corner! ????
I’m making plans to do errands tomorrow, and then just veg at home for Sunday.
.3 inches! I could only dream. Is that a typical winter?
You smell fantastic!
No, 0.3 inches is not at all typical for where I am at. The previous winter seemed to have all of its precipitation as rain, which was so gloomy!
After some poking around on the Internets for more info, I found that “average” snowfall in my area is around 23 inches. However, snowfall year to year is not consistent. Some years we get dumped on, and other years, next to nothing.
Yes! The cold is an important insect control.
And I hate mosquitoes with a burning passion!
Sadly, in this area we get the full complement of bugs back once it’s warm enough in spring for them to fly or crawl around. Ugh. But being vigilant about not having standing water in the yard helps with mosquitos.
You and Lillyjo are the Alien queens.
Thanks, Aurora! ??
I love that you’ve been dubbed an Alien queen. 😀 Nice title!
On theme! My plan is also to run errands on Saturday, including a donation drop off. Maybe I’ll be motivated to put together another bag…but so far I have 3 shopping bags and a kitchen equipment I bought when my eyes were bigger than my stomach (I now have the 2 Quart version, still in the box ?).
Mom complained that we didn’t get snow last year, but she isn’t happy that we’re getting snow this year. Just can’t win with her. LOL! Snowfall amounts can be irregular year to year in the area, for sure.
Snow makes for a good insulation for my plants, though. I’m hoping it will slow down the leaf growth of my very confused daffodils. It’s better for perennials and hardy bulbs to have a layer of snow above them than to get the direct effect of the really bitter Arctic winds.
As for me, I’m good as long as I don’t have to drive in it. 🙂
Wearing Un Jardin Sur le Nil over Jo Malone Sweet Lime and Cedar body cream, it’s a good combination. Some lovely NSTer gave me the Jo Malone giftset during a freebie meet and while I like the Sweet Lime and Cedar scent better in the summer (and UJSLN is a summer staple) you can’t beat the JM body cream for winter dry skin. It’s nice having a little summer breeze when it’s so cold and windy outside.
Semi-twins! I started out in UJSLN. I agree, it’s so wonderful in the summertime. Especially in the humid heat we get here.
Late in everything today. I gave away my Jour Hermes but thought I still had a sample of PdN Eau Mixte. Of course it’s in the wormhole of samples, so today was a dab of Gin Fizz combined with a lot of mixed sample-bottle-drips. I can’t recommend it as a method. Very distracting.
Working on a stressful project that looks like it will bleed into the weekend. Writing tech marketing stuff is like Jenga – move one word and the whole thing may crash down. Back to reassembling. Have a wonderful evening.
I feel you. I hope you can salvage a good part of you weekend.

Wearing the very beautiful Dior Vetiver today. I ruined it a little by wearing about 5 sprays of this on an outing somewhere a couple of months ago. Now, with two sprays I remember its full glory.
For some reason Fragrantica lists only vetiver and coffee as notes but to ensure I was not experiencing a total olfactory hallucination I checked some other sites and grapefruit is definitely mentioned. Whew! Interestingly, it’s not just coffee that is listed but Robusta coffee in particular. From what I can find, Robusta is generally more bitter, and harsher than Arabica? Seems odd that they stipulate Robusta?!
I wouldn’t know the difference between bean types ?. Trust your nose I say!
Honestly I don’t smell the coffee in it but I think it would be quite obvious if I did a sided by side with another vetiver that DOESN’T contain ‘coffee’. When I do such comparisons I often find the missing note pops out in contrast. Maybe I need a scent with an Arabica coffee note to compare 😀
I think of robusta as being more woody and arabica more flowery in coffee types. I could see a less-sweet vetiver and a roasty coffee smell being similar. Just checked: Fragrantica does not distinguish coffee types in its coffee notes, so you have to rely on the brand’s word! 🙂
Oh! That’s interesting! I’m not much of a floral person but I think I tend to enjoy Arabica more as its a little less bitter? Dior’s vetiver would be more woody than floral though.
SotD for CP points is EL Intuition. I had to cheat and use Fragrantica to find grapefruit notes among my collection. Intuition’s grapefruit today seemed to be like a high quality version of those citrus rind jelly candies. The sweetness of the candy merged with the sweet amber base, and the white floral kept things lighter. I really enjoyed it. It was from the campy Gem Infused edt bottle, so sort of vintage. I have the parfum, too; but I could not find it this morning. Loved everyone’s comments: I am not a grapefruit perfume fan, but I’ve learned there is some way I can love any note, even if I have not found it yet. 🙂
Oh, I wore Intuition regularly around the early 2000’s and loved it! I still have two bottles of it, partly full.
Give it a spin the in cold – I loved it yesterday – the gardenia seemed to glow more than usual. It does have its fans, because it made it into the standardized bottles that EL uses for its “classics.” I enjoy my Serge Mansau original-design bottles, and they are still around for a decent price on E**y.
You know, I don’t think I ever tried Intuition, you make it sound lovely.
SOTD is Pomelo Paradis, the sample that sent me down the rabbit hole. On a whim I entered the pretty blue store front, after years of not wearing perfume. SA handed me this random same as I left.
Never ended up buying that one (still have the sample, from April 2019) but it did reawaken an interest in scent. And here I am! Now I’m a card-carrying member of this crazy lot. ?
The more people that are down here in this rabbit hole, the merrier! ?
Resistance is futile… 🙂
Another twin!
What a great memory! I also fell in stumbling across, so to speak, a random sample. There is always more to be said and shared with fragrances. Plus all the tangents…
No grapefruit for me, that I readily know of. I wore Coco edp. I’m a pile of nerves, and Coco makes me feel better. It makes me swoon and sigh everytime. Every now and then, I see a youngish person “review” it on YouTube. They always say something about old lady vibes, or too mature. Lol, I think I was twenty when I first wore it. I don’t feel mature at all. Lol.
I didn’t care for Coco when it came out, but that was because I wasn’t a fan of patchouli at all. I’ve since done a 180 on patchouli. Time to give Coco another sniff!
Oh, and minus 10 points to anyone talking about “old lady vibes”!
That’s cool, more Coco for us.
One more point for grapefruit – I used both my Grapefruit + Bergamot soap and hand cream from Handmade. la conner, a natural line from a little town north of Seattle. I’m going up there to watch Hawks tomorrow and looking forward to stopping in their cute shop.
No grapefruit in my collection, so today I went with Zoologist Camel layered with Cintron Boboli from Le Jardin Retrouvé for some spice on spice with a lemon opening.
But, I’ve been cranky the last few days, and enacted a tiny/petty and mostly harmless revenge tonight, and I’m taking a half a CP point because there was grapefruit!
Mr. Teebear and I get takeout on Fridays; it’s our pandemic treat. In practical terms this means *I* get takeout, since Mr. Teebear plays online games with his friends on Fridays are well. Tonight he really wanted to try the new local Jamaican jerk place, so off I went to collect our order and I grabbed two sodas as well.
“You can pick which one you want,” I said, “I just wasn’t sure if you liked ginger beer so that’s why there’s a grapefruit soda too. Why don’t we open them both up and you can choose?”
In all fairness there was an infinitesimal chance I was wrong and Mr. Teebear would love ginger beer. But I’ve known him 15 years. And I could have said “it’s really spicy.” But I didn’t.
And that is the story of how I had Mr. Teebear take a swig of ginger beer and almost spit it back out, while still imagining I was the best wife ever for bringing him home Jamaican food and a grapefruit soda.
LURVE Jamaican jerk, especially chicken!
I am ready for our local Jamaican food truck to hit the road this spring. Last year, the owners used the parking lot at our office once a week – that was how I learned to love jerk chicken. And the cole slaw was soo good, too.
Oh you are picking on your DH, methinks!! 😀 I can appreciate ginger in only a few soup dishes (miso ginger broth is a comfort food) and I don’t like it in perfume, either! And, those ginger candies – everyone is just pretending to like them, right???
He likes ginger and spicy food or it wouldn’t have been fair game. I just knew he wouldn’t expect the ginger beer to be quite *so* spicy ?
lol! We do takeout on Fridays too as our pandemic treat/support for local restaurants. Tried a new (to us) Chinese restaurant last night with good results! Food was better than our usual place’s, less expensive, and there was more of it. Win-win win.
Super late, and haven’t read comments yet, but wearing Pomelo Paradis. Will go back and read now. Happy Friday, everyone!
Woo hoo! Twins!
We smell fantastic! As do all the other people who joined us in this scent. 🙂
We all wanted double CP points for the “pomelo”. ?
🙂
