It's Friday and there are 50 more days of winter to endure. Birthdays: Edward Abbey, Anton Chekhov, Thomas Paine, Oprah Winfrey. RIP Cloris Leachman and Cicely Tyson. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance by (Thierry) Mugler, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Thierry Mugler Angel Eau Sucrée. It's not matching my mood and I should have gone with Angel Muse.
Reminder: on 2/5, for National Grapefruit month, wear a fragrance with grapefruit; extra credit if Grapefruit (or Pamplemousse or whatever) is in the name of the scent. (This is a repeat from 2015.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is from the 2019 Thierry Mugler: Couturissime exhibit, produced by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the the Mugler fashion house and Clarins Group.
Mugler Angel is the one fragrance my family asked me to NEVER wear again (and I had only dabbed on a tiny amount from a sample). It was fine because I didn’t like it on me either. I have no other Muglers to offer.
BUT I am wearing Theorema which I find heavenly so I am going with that connection to Angel which connects with Mugler and there you go!
The rest of the week I wore Chergui and Bvlgari Black which I also thoroughly enjoyed. Happy FriYAY, all!
Lol, I can’t do Angel either. I dabbed on the back of my hand once and it made me queasy. On the other hand, it’s my college bestie’s signature scent and it smells great on her.
You really can’t go wrong with Theorema!
Nice way to tie it in to the CP, and Theorema always wins 🙂
Angel is like kryptonite on my skin. Horrible!
Theorema is wonderful.
Good morning and Happy FriYAY!!!
I dare not wear anything Mugler to work; the perfume grinch doesn’t do bold smells and loud sillage with a smile! I’ll pick one tonight at home and project away!
For the moment, I’m testing The Body Shop White Musk L’eau. I got a bottle for Christmas and just now trying it. It’s nice! Will be excellent in the spring and summer especially, but it’s nice and office fresh now…..I see this is a 2017 release, but the Body Shop nearest to us said it’s a brand new release when my daughter bought it? Maybe it’s new release in the US? Anyhoo, it’s a good one! 🙂
Friday!
Payday!
Vaccine day!
SOTD will be Chergui time to open the back up bottle.
Woo hoo vaccine!
Impressive on needing to open up a BUB. I do have a few BUBs, but at this rate it’ll be 20 years before I need to open any of them.
Well if I am old enough to get a vaccine, I better start using my bottles!
Spray extravagantly!
Triple hooray! What a great day!
YAY!
Yay! I get my first shot on Sunday. I’m so grateful!
Hurray!
That sounds like a GREAT Friday!!
Yay, all the things, and you smell great too 🙂
Vaccine! Yay! I have resigned myself to the fact that I will not be getting one before June or July. Virginia has simply run out of vaccine. I saw the state cancelled many of the appointments for teachers in Northern Virginia.
Yes, in my age bracket I’m assuming I may not get one until end of summer or even fall. I’d rather be pleasantly surprised than set myself up for disappointment by having overly optimistic expectations.
Chergui is the ONE bottle I REALLY should have got a back up for. It’s no longer available in South Africa…and sounds like there have been formula changes anyway. I have about a quarter of a bottle left which I’m saving for emergencies.
Perfume emergencies are real! ?
Totally! ?
Yay for Friday, payday and vaccine day!!!
Great day! Enjoy! ?
Sounds like the perfect day!?
Lots to celebrate — with that back up bottle! It makes me so happy when I read about someone getting that vaccine. I’ll be eager to get it myself when it’s my turn.
That is a great day!
Most excellent!
YAY! I will be so relieved when I can get my vaccine, and am relieved right now that it is Friday!
I am wearing Houbigant Quelques Fleurs and drinking a cup of Himalayan Spice tea.
I do own half of a bottle of Angel, but I can’t bring myself to wear it today. Every now and then I will get a craving for Angel, but not today.
Back in the 90s, I used to wear it a lot. Pretty much exclusively. My daughter, who was born in 1994, told me that when she would smell Angel, when she was little, she knew she and her brother would have a babysitter for the evening, because that was my “getting dressed up and going out scent”.
That same daughter will be married in five weeks, and this morning I will be addressing envelopes for her bridal luncheon invitations. Time sure flies 🙂
How sweet!
Scent memories are strong! Enjoy the wedding festivities. So exciting.
Aww, cute story. Time sure does fly! My oldest was born in ‘96, so I hear ya.
Love scent memories.
Aww! When I was little, I always knew I was in for a babysitter when my mom put on 1000 (and extra eyeliner). Sometimes I worry that I don’t have such a clearly defined signature scent and am thus depriving my son of that kind of strong scent memory.
Lovely! And yes, time flies, my baby will be 36 next week ? how did that happen? Congratulations on the wedding ?
My one and only baby will be 35 in May. I completely understand how you feel!
Happy, sweet memories!
Aww, sweet story!
Touching story! ?
???
Nice memory, and you smell fabulous. I just got a great vintage-ish Quelques Fleurs.
Awww, I love your scent memory story!
I chose Mugler Cologne today. It’s an odd one, simultaneously green and warm? But I enjoy wearing it.
The alternative would have been Angel, of which I can only wear the tiniest dap of.
It’s a good one.
I certainly wasn’t cautious in my application of Mugler cologne. I think I blew through most of my bottle in a single season when I repeatedly drenched myself in it 😮
It is definitely easy to reach for. 🙂
I’m in Over the Musk, my only Mugler.
This is my weekend to work so unfortunately it’s not Friyay for me.
Hulu recently added Freaks and Geeks to their streaming so we’ve been (re) binge watching it with madtownteen now that’s she’s in high school. I’ve been waking up with this earworm?
https://youtu.be/ie1kkByfE4I
Love that show, what a gem.
I love that show too and I am sure you smell great.
Smelling great! Love the song!?
I am in Womanity, a terrific fig and the worse marketed perfume ever. please rename it, put in a fig shaped rose tinted bottle and rerelease it.
The marketing really flopped, didn’t it?
I love the salty fig of Womanity and agree with everything you said. Unfortunately on me the fig is fleeting and buried under a sugar avalanche.
Twins! You smell fabulous!
I smelled great yesterday in Jungle l’Elephant. Why don’t I wear that more often?
Will pull out Angel Muse for today. That’s my only Mugler, other than a few samples rolling around. Muse was a lucky blind buy at TJ Maxx, and nothing else ever really caught my attention, though it sounds like there’s LOADS from the house I’ve yet to smell.
I would cave if I saw it at TJ Maxx, for sure!
That’s where I got my Angel Muse, too! $20 well spent.
I also got my Muse at Tj Maxx! Love the little bottle.
I’m another owner of Angel Muse thanks to TJ Maxx! It’s not really my vibe, but it’s nice enough and I do love that bottle.
It’s always at our TJX but never marked down enough to make me pounce.
Wearing TM Womanity, one of my favorite scents
Temperatures feeling below zero today. No comments! Coffee with a couple of shortbread cookies and glad it is Friday!
Hope it’s a relaxing weekend for you!
Womanity is one of the few Muglers I can’t wear. I still haven’t come around to fig.
Thank you, Lillyjo! It is insanely cold here that I will not go outside at all this weekend, so I will relax.
Womanity is not an easy scent to wear and if you don’t like fig it becomes even more complicated.
Coffee and shortbread cookies! Yes please!
I did look for the Chanel Paris-Venise lotion, but sadly it seems to be sold out everywhere. I will keep checking but it may be discontinued?
I just checked the Chanel website in the US and Canada and all the body lotions are available. I added them to the cart and it worked. You may want to give it a try again.
I just tried again. When I add to cart it says there is insufficient quantity. Maybe the universe is telling me something!
Oh no, I am sorry! The Canadian site is letting me place the lotions in the cart, but it doesn’t allow me to check out. The US site is allowing me to place the order. If I can be of any help, let me know.
We ran out of nested comments. Thank you for trying, I really appreciate it! I will persevere and check periodically to see if they magically reappear.
If you get desperate, order on the US site and have it shipped to me, I can hand carry in April!
I get a TON of labdanum and not a lot of fig with Womanity. I think it’s another Mugler where I turn the notes “inside out”.
For me is the opposite, I get lots of fig and no much labdanum. That’s why I enjoy Womanity a lot, because I love fig as a note.
I’m wearing Dis Moi, Miroir. This is one of the few Muglers that I like. I looked for my full bottle of Angel, but it is one of the star shaped bottles, and I couldn’t find it lying down amongst my other full bottles. I’m not a big fan anyway. Looking for a mini of Alien in my work desk, I found not Alien (which I think I gave away), but a mini of Angel Sunessence. Huh. I don’t remember ever trying this.
Dis Moi, Miroir is a gorgeous name for a perfume. ?
No Mugler in my house and i dont know why….maybe because my Mugler experience was a few sprays of Alien (in a drugstore)…and it was LOUD and SWEET and it lasted 3 years LOL . But its not bad, I can see why people like it.
SotD is Tabac tabou.
I keep coming back to this scent. On my 2nd sample.
Oh and I think i had a skin reaction for the first time (after hundreds of samples). This morning i noticed a rash on my arm and It was exactly on the spot where I tried Osmanthus elixir (ormonde jayme) yesterday.
…Or could it have been something else? I am puzzled.
And yay for friday!
Last day at my current job. Finished cleaning out my digital work space this morning and I just handed over my laptop and phone and access card at the office.
Congrats on finishing up your current job….all good things for your future plans!
Congratulations on a new job adventure!
Congratulations on finishing your job! It feels really good to pass on the torch!
Congratulations on the old job, and good luck with the new one! ??
Yay, onwards and upwards!
You smell great! Need to wear that one soon.
Angel Muse, which is one of two Muglers I own. And it’s good for such a cold day here. The other Mugler being a small decant of Mugler Cologne, which I had to retrieve from my husband and have tucked away for warmer weather.
PSA: Sonoma Scent Studio has 20% off with code SHARETHELOVE21. I will be getting a BUB of Jour Ensolleille. It’s a desert island scent for me. Makes me wish she offered 100 ml bottles. Am thinking of trying Wood Violet or Forest Walk. I have a bottle of Equestrian, which I don’t love and Winter Woods, which I only wear sparingly. Any recommendations appreciated.
I think I might buy a bottle of SSS Bees Bliss. . .
I went through a sample of Forest Walk pretty quickly, wouldn’t mind having a little bottle. I don’t remember now what it smells like.
My favorite, at least when Laurie was at the helm, was Tabac Aurea. Gorgeous!
I bought a bottle of Nostalgie and Fig Tree from the new ownership, and I do not notice a change in formulation for those two. So, there’s hope that Tabac Aurea would still smell the way you want it to!
I love Nostalgie!
Is it a rich tobacco? Sweet, as some pipe tobaccos are?
No, actually. Its not one of those sweet, cherry tobacco scents. To my nose, it is more tobacco leaf and hay, with a deep amber hum in the background. Think more golden than russet.
I second Tabac Aurea. My bottle is from the new owner. I read she uses the original formulas. I never smelled the old ones.
Also: Incense Pure, Nostalgie, Rose Volupte, Champagne de Bois.
I had a sample of wood violet a long time ago, and to me, it was too violet-y. But: I don’t usually like violet, especially if they feel soliflore. My favorite would be Champagne du Bois, which I find somewhat similar to Winter Woods. Thanks for the info!!
Incense Pure is both beautiful and heavy-hitting.
BUB of Jour Ensolleille and small one of Bee’s Bliss.
Seconding recs for both Incense Pure and Nostalgie. If you enjoy rose as a note, try the Rose Volupte.
I was going to wear Angel Liqueur de Parfum 2013, for my money the best Angel variant they ever released, but last night I put on a spritz of vintage A*Men, just because I hadn’t worn it in so long, and I was once again *astonished* at how good it is. By all rights it should be a hideous farrago — peppermint, chocolate, patchouli, floral notes, vanilla caramel, and a great many other things — but it’s perfectly titrated and balanced, the warm with the fresh with the sweet. It’s a work of art.
So obviously I’m wearing that again today: I don’t have much left, but I’m going to enjoy the hell out of it while I can.
Mugler Week has been fun!
Love your use of “farrago” in that sentence!
Same reaction here! I love a good word.
I, too, opted for Mugler Cologne, which I thought was the only Mugler scent I could lay my hands on.
Only when I read the previous posts I realized that there also should have been a sample of one of the Miroirs knocking about somewhere which I completely forgot about. 😉
Wearing Angel today–one spray only, since I have an in-person meeting at work (what even are those?). Haven’t gotten any complaints yet, but I’ve only seen two people in the entire building today.
I feel as if one spray is the maximum recommended dosage for Angel.
I think I could get double CP points, for something “purple” to finish my personal rainbow CP and for Mugler, if I can only find my little mini of Angel. Pretty sure that’s the only scent from the house I own.
I was curious about the malt and coffee things they came out with a while back, but then they were gone before I could try them. It’s ok. I have enough perfume.
Today is the end of semester 1, and a grading day, so no classes. Yesterday was really hard. It was the end of my science classes, and I get new students on Monday. I’ve been teaching remotely all year, and you hear all the stories of kids not being connected to each other and to their teachers. . . but yesterday showed me that at least in my classes, at least for some of my kids, we really succeeded in connecting with each other! I got so many sweet emails from kids saying they will miss my class, and many kids hung around after the lesson to just chat with me or each other. It felt good to know I’ve been doing something right, but it was pretty heartbreaking to say goodbye to so many of them, too!
That is wonderful! I can really tell which teachers are pulling out the stops (which is so much work and pressure in this pandemic) to make their online classes engaging. Your effort will have an impact on those kids for their whole lives.
Thank you!
We got to talking in one of my more introspective class periods about how hard, weird experiences can bond people together. I told them that I thought this could be one of those moments for us–that here we were, bonding and connecting to this strangest moment in their educations. That we would always have this experience to tie us together. It was cool to see so many of them nod their heads and agree!
Oh that is encouraging!!
What a wonderful story! Hooray for you!
Thanks irisjasmine! I hope you’re having many successes also. 🙂
Thank you! I got to stand around and chat with four sophomores yesterday, and it felt deliciously normalizing!
Wonderful! I do miss just hanging out with the kids!
Sounds like today was bittersweet for you and your students.
aw, I’m misting up over here. ? Thank you for sharing.
No Muglers in my collection. I’ve realized I have my own, very idiosyncratic fragrance family that I reach for a lot, which is ‘appropriate-to-wear-in-the-woods-in-a-professional-setting.’ Today’s professional forest outing will be brought to you by Fille en Aiguilles, which really just smells like a sexy charred tree, perfect for the post-wildfire environment. Like No.19, goes good with a hard hat!
It’s very important to maintain professionalism in a wooded setting. 😉
I HATE it when people just wear any old perfume with a hard hat.
Love this. I use perfume for a force field, so why not add a hard hat and go for a walk in the woods too?
Well, great, now I have to find a sample of Filles des Arguilles somewhere….have you tried “Woodcut” by Olympic Orchids? Might be almost too photorealistic. But would work with the hard hat etc.
You smell great! FeA is one of my alltime favourites. ❤️
I wore Fille en Aiguilles earlier this week, really enjoyed it. Great choice!
Smelling like a naiad nymph, strolling along in Rome..
Ninfeo Mio
That sounds dreamy!
Meanwhile I am in freezing cold NYC
☺️
Wow, that is quite a photo!!
I’m in the dregs of my Mitzah decant this morning because I woke up longing for spicy incense.
Someone was asking about Lancome Santal Kardamon a few days ago–was it Oakland Fresca? If you’re still interested, I have an underloved decant that could do with a better home. Please let me know at kobhatta at gmail and I can send it to you.
Just pinged you.
If you want more Mitzah, just shoot me an email. 🙂
Hi, I am new here. Hoping to improve my scent vocabulary by learning from you all.
I’m wearing TM Angel Eau Croisiere, which is a bit more humid summer feeling than makes sense for this very cold day, but I’m happy to pretend.
Drinking Kusmi’s Anastasia loose leaf.
Hello and welcome Vee! If it’s as cold where you are as it is where I am, pretending is the way to go 🙂
Welcome – that sounds like a yummy version of Angel!
Hello there! I think you smell great!?
Greetings Vee!
Welcome! NSTers are a wonderful resource. I have learned so much here over the years.
Welcome Vee! I just started posting recently too and have been welcomed so warmly. It’s an incredible community.
Welcome, Vee! If you’re mentioning your tea, you must have lurked for a bit already. Lots of tea love around here.
So nice to “meet” you! I’ve learned so much from NST, this is a great community.
Just pulled this week’s pizza out of the oven: broccoli, sausage, fresh tomato and ricotta on a garlic oil base.
Maybe I can convince Mr. Teebear to skip Friday night takeout today… ? I made way too much food this week!
SotD Alien Musc Mystérieux.
You smell great, love that one.
Yummy pizza!
Save me a slice!?
That pizza sounds so good! ?
IMPOSSIBLE to wear my one Mugler this AM with a serious island of samples and decants flashing, waving, and calling my name. A ridiculously generous NSTer put together a packet for me of mythic proportions. Heading for the Supra Floral this morning, it was like trying leave Ogygia— not happening. So I’m instead happily testing L’Ivree Bleue and dreaming it will be the end of the work day soon.
In other news, last night I put together about a pound and a half of sushi-grade salmon with curing salt and sugar (and tons of fresh dill and spices)–trying my hand at gravlax. It should be ready by Sunday morning. I am looking forward to making a gravlax delivery to a family that has had us on their short list of homemade bagel testers during the pandemic. 🙂
Hahahaha yeah pulling away from new samples takes more willpower than is entirely reasonable ?
That gravlax sounds AMAZING!
Just got an email from Arielle Shoshanna that the Ormaie scents are now available in 50ml bottles as well as 100ml, in case anyone was hesitating due to bottle size.
My father makes gravlax all the time, and I do it pretty often, too – it will turn out great and next time, unless you’re really into the sushi grade idea, you don’t even need that kind of quality in a cured fish, I believe. Just to save you some $$!
Mmm gravlax… Its been ages since I had some, but its one of my preferred salmon treatments.
?
I adore gravlax, and just about any cured salmon. I sometimes do one with a southeast asian flavor profile (think lime leaves, ginger, garlic), and it is DELICIOUS.
That does sound nice! What ratio of salt/sugar do you use with the garlic/ginger combo?
I just go for somewhere around 50/50 by weight. I sometimes get impatient, and have been known to cure salmon strips rather than a large piece. In addition to slicing gravlax thin and eating it on top of crackers, I will take a strip and make it into a sushi roll or 6 – heavenly.
Mr. Jalapeno and I were talking about smoking salmon the other day, since he has a fishing trip for that planned later on this year.
I’ve never smoked salmon–but I think it lasts longer than gravlax. I eat smoked salmon frequently, as it is a vice/luxury food that is not forbidden to me!
I have wanted to try that with salmon, too. Do report back!
Oooo. I’m fascinated by this gravlax attempt. Do report back on results.
LORD, if I could get my hands on a pound and a half of sushi-grade salmon! I could eat raw salmon every day for the rest of my life. As long as there were also peaches, and big, zingy salads.
I sprayed on a tiny dab of Angel Violet this morning when I got up and have already tried to wash it off twice. Ugh. Nasty sweet snake around my neck. The bottle is sure pretty though. I used to wear it but have a clear memory of one moment when I was sitting around a conference table back in 2004 and I suddenly smelled it and thought to myself “This is gassing everyone else in the room!!” and I put it aside until now. Guess maybe I should send it on to a new home? After my shower (and another attempt to make it go away) I plan to spray on some of the Heretic Dirty Mango I tried on yesterday from my discovery set. What great stuff that is–wow!
Mom is finally supposed to get her (first) vaccination tomorrow–hope it doesn’t fall through!
Crossing my fingers for your mom’s vaccination!
I’m kind of low key enjoying everyone’s collisions with various versions of Angel today, is that wrong? ?
Hope your post shower scent brings you MUCH more happiness tho!
Ha ha, yeah, I really took one for the team today!
Had my shower now and put on Scandalwood from my Heretic set, not the mango–nothing sweet for awhile, thank you!
I appreciate your well-wishes for my mom.
So glad to hear your mom is scheduled for her first vaccine tomorrow! ??
Oops, that was meant for Calypso.
Best wishes for mom’s vaccination! I had Angel Violet back in the day.
I think you smell fantastic! One of the best Angel flankers imo. Good luck with the vaccine tomorrow!
All best wishes to your mother for her vaccination.
Hi, twin! Sorry it doesn’t work for you. It’s the only Angel that works for me. Only the tiniest, tiniest bit; anything more would definitely be ‘nasty sweet.’
16 years later? Yes, I think you can give it a new home. ?
Currently still laying in a soft cloud of last night’s Alien/matching body lotion, but when I wrestle myself out into the shower it’ll be my favorite Mugler – Alien Essense Absolue.
Watched two Sundance movies last night:
In the Same Breath, a documentary about COVID disinformation campaigns in China and the US. Had a lot of heartbreaking footage from hospitals and funeral homes, interviews from nurses who knew what was up early on and pressured not to say anything. Well-made, but definitely a downer.
And Censor, a psychological horror movie about a woman who works on the censoring board during the 80s video nasties era the UK, just watching the most profane, deranged stuff all day every day, who is convinced one of the actresses from the schlock films is her sister who went missing when they were kids. I liked this one too, nothing amazing but good for for a horror fan to eat ice cream in bed to and pick out references.
Happy Friday everyone!
Thanks for that report! I enjoy horror so will look out for Censor.
Seconding what Calypso said – thanks for reporting back on your watches. I’m sure I’ll watch Censor when it streams through one of my local theatres or hits Shudder (or whichever other streaming service picks it up). I wish I’d planned ahead like you to take part in Sundance this year.
Don’t think it’s been picked up yet but I’ll report again if I hear anything!
Wow, I really want to see Same Breath. Hoping it goes to Netflix! And I too am a horror fan 🙂
It’ll be going to HBO at some point!
Hiya scent twin!
Scent: Atelier Cologne Lemon Island from a travel spray. I was drawn in by ‘lemon’ in the name, but of course, that’s just the opening salvo. I’m enjoying it quite a bit.
Have a good day, everyone!
I really want to try that one!
I’m looking forward to trying this!
My project this year includes wearing only favorites on Fridays so no Mugler for me. Instead, in honor of a dusting of snow, DSH/American Perfumer Colorado, which reminds me of the smell of trees while skiing glades.
Excellent project!
That sounds great! I’m thinking of starting a personal sample collection journey of realistic woody scents – this one sounds like a good one!
Gorgeous!
I’ve been at my mom’s since Wednesday, sleeping in dad’s old lift recliner. She had an outpatient procedure yesterday and was in pain last night, poor thing, and her caretaker had to take today off. Just as well. I don’t have Angel Muse with me but that’s what I would would be wearing today. All I brought was Oil Perfumery’s version of Coromandel, which is very good.
Hope your mom feels better soon under your excellent care. 🙂
Aw thank you! I had the BEST treat just now, my husband came out with a package from a lovely and generous NSTer that contains a bottle of Angel Liquer and WOW, do I ever smell fabulous!
Speedy recovery to your mom!
Hope your mom recovers soon!
Good recovery wishes to your mom!
I got a few Oil Perfumery scents to try them out. The ones I’ve tried so far are very good! You are smelling great in Coromandel.
Hope that your Mom is feeling better.
Sending ‘feel better soon’ wishes to your mom.
I hope she’s better soon, and that you get to sleep somewhere better than an old recliner soon. Been there, done that.
Hope that your mom is feeling better tonight.
Swift healing to your mom, and here’s hoping that the recliner is reasonably comfy!
The recliner is one of those lift recliners and it’s reasonably comfortable.
Thank you all for your well wishes for my mother! She’s very tired but otherwise better today. Best news is that we both were able to get round 1 of the covid vaccine today. I thought at 61 I wouldn’t be able to but since I am my mom’s main caregiver, I quality.
Very good news!
Awesome news!
Oh, what a blessing! I’m glad your mom is better today.
Woo hoo vaccine!
So glad she’s feeling better!
That’s wonderful! What a relief for both of you!
Wearing Supra Floral on one arm and Antonia on the other, pretending it’s spring.
Another Supra Floral wearer here! Really enjoying it.
Friday is Bois d’Iris kind of day. Time to wind down and relax, the weekend has started ?
You smell wonderful! Enjoy your weekend!
SOTM turns out to be Memoir, which I consider to be a “purple” scent, finishing my personal rainbow CP, but failing to match the Mugler CP. Apparently I gave away my mini of Angel. Too bad, I was curious to resniff that one. It’s been years since I tried it!
Memoir is just beautiful, isn’t it? It was one of the first real “niche” fragrances I tried, from a gift set of minis. I feel underdressed when I wear it, it’s so elegant!
Absolutely frozen in my home office, so I went with PoTL. No CP points but it makes me feel warmer. Thinking I need a BUB.
Enjoying all the Angel and Alien comments. Have a great day all.
You smell great! If you’re in the US, seems very difficult to locate now.
So glad it’s Friday!!!
Trying Initio Absolute Aphrodisiac layered with Gallagher Vanilla Silk today for maximum vanilla goodness!
Wow, that sounds amazing!
SOTD is a sample of Angel Muse (EDP). I haven’t sniffed the original Angel in decades, and Muse is bringing back good memories of the original. Maybe because it’s just a hint of it! ?
I’m very happy it’s Friday and we have a break from the rain, so I went on a walk this morning. Have a terrific Friday, everyone!
Yay for Friday, payday and vaccine day!!!
Meant for Apsara! 🙂
So far today no headache, may it stay far away! A tiny dab of Jicky for the BN vintage sync and a spritz of Aura for the NST sync. Happy Friday all!
Wishing you headache free for a long time!
Thank you!
Oh, terrific news about your headache!
Yes indeed, thanks!
Hope the rest of your day will remain headache-free.
It has, thank you!
Fingers crossed that the headaches stay far away! ?
Thanks!
May this be the first of many headache-free days!
SUN! We have SUN today! After 7″ of rain this week. I plan to go for a walk this afternoon. Hoping it warms up, it’s 39 degrees out at the moment.
SOTD is Mugler Cuir Impertinent, my favorite Mugler.
Cuir Impertinent is so good. It should get more love. I don’t know how you handle all that rain. My house would be flooded in the basement and leaking in the main floor.
Buckets 🙂 Seriously. I just finished emptying the garage buckets. We have put so much $ into fixing leaks, but still… the wind we get drives rain into every little hole. Years ago when we were going out of town for a while during the winter, we asked a neighbor to watch our house. When she came by for a tour, she asked: “So, where does your house leak?” Not “does your house leak” but “where…” lol. She knew.
Do you think this is a California thing? It seems builders think there is no weather here, so they don’t bother with insulation and sealing seams.
No, it’s just that the mountains here get such different weather from the vast majority of homes in the area. Our normal annual rainfall is 65″; San Jose’s is 16″. Our normal storms get 65mph winds; bad ones get 100+ mph winds. We commonly get rain driven *uphill* from the canyons. Most builders are just not accustomed.
Our house is thoroughly insulated, as are all of our neighbors. But older houses in the flatlands aren’t. Probably nobody cared about energy efficiency back in the day.
I’m always freezing in my coastal California home, and I think back fondly to the incredibly comfortable winter I spent in East Glacier, MT years ago, where you could wear a T-shirt indoors when it was 20 below outside because the house insulation and radiant heat were so darn effective.
Taking points in Alien edt. Smelling good and a little strange.
I’ve never tried the edt, and wonder how different it is from the edp.
From what I remember of the edp, they’re pretty similar. To me, the edt is a bit airier, and I smell more orange blossom alongside the jasmine sambac.
I believe you are the queen of Alien, right? Which iteration is your favorite?
My favourites are The Taste of Fragrance, Alien Cuir, eau Sublime. My Alien unicorn is the Sunessence Saphir version. I’m still mad at myself for not getting it, lol. This is why no-buys are bad, too many regrets?
Picked up the EDT blind as my free one in the bogo sale. Should get here Monday. Airier with orange blossom sounds like a dream ?
So cold and windy today….need some Chergui to warm me up! Alas, no Mugler in my stash of scents. And judging from some of the comments, the sweetness and loudness of the scents would keep them off of the to buy list.
Happy Friday to all….stay safe out there.
I’d say that yes, the Mugler family of perfumes do run on the sweet side. I don’t think that they’re any louder than some of my other heavy-hitters like Opium or Aromatics Elixir, though. Incredibly persistent, though… I easily get 24 hours from the Muglers I have.
SOTD: Marni EDP
We are at 23 degrees here in NYC — wowza! It is cold outside campers so bundle up good. Blue sky makes all the difference.
Happy Friday!
I think the feels like is 12!
Marni! I haven’t read about that one in a while. I have Marni Rose, which I like a lot but haven’t worn in a while. I’ll have to pull it out if I do another “Roses de Mai” Marathon on my blog. Thanks for the reminder!
It’s super cold here in NJ. Just got my marketing done and as I walked around the store I wondered who was rocking some awesome patchouli. I don’t normally dig it. Yeah, it was me wearing Angel but I’ve never gotten this much patchouli before. It smells quite masculine on me today. Normally, it’s heavy grapefruit, then candy, berry, lots of chocolate and a smidge of patchouli. It’s frustrating that Shalimar stinks on me but wonderful that Angel smells extra good on me – so my husband and my friends tell me (I think so, too!) Isn’t it funny how that can happen?
It is all about the patchouli on some of us! You smell great!
I get quite a bit of patch from Angel, too. Especially with the first version of the EdT.
Angel Muse for me today. Some years ago, having read about the original Angel, I sprayed some in the air at Sephora. The aisle cleared out really fast–I think that put me off trying it on skin.
Maybe we should all have little Angel minis in our purses, then these days – crowd control :)!
LOL about clearing out an aisle at Sephora!
At one time I had a mini of one of the Angels, but I can’t seem to gather the impetus to seek it out … and the spreadsheet says “don’t let this near your skin ever again!” so apparently I didn’t like it on initially sampling. 😀 SOTD is Soivohle’s Cuir Beurre, which is a lovely, soft, sweet leather. It’s an extrait, and true to form does not waft far above the wrist, which is just fine by me. Happy Friday all!
Early in my perfumistahood, I kept a sampling spreadsheet. I would color code my impressions of them, from happy purples and blues, to bright red “warning, warning, warning!” scents.
Sounds like Angel was a bright red scent for you! Good thing you kept notes to warn your future self. 🙂
I love your spreadsheet entry, lol!
If I had planned ahead I would wear Alien Eau Extraordinnaire, which is in my summer wardrobe tucked away.
Am wearing Hermes Rhubarbe Eau Elcarte (you know what I mean)
LOL, I understand exactly what you mean, and you smell wonderful!
I couldn’t do Angel Muse today – I sniffed the bottle and while I generally like the scent, I’m in an indie mood and Ummagumma hits the spot! Must start getting work done – my Thursdays are so busy that I’m always a bit unmotivated come Friday.
Ooh! Ummagumma sounds good. I need to find my sample.
Finishing off Mugler week with the very nice Supra Floral. When I first smelled it, I thought hmm I could go for a bottle of this. Wearing it a second time I still find it delightful but realize I probably won’t need more than my little decant. I’m trying to check myself a lot more than usual before I run off and make a purchase. I’ve got so many amazing perfumes in my collection. I really, really want to bring in fewer new perfumes this year and wear what I have, which will already last me the rest of my lifetime and then some!
Supra Floral is one of the best green floral perfumes that I have come across.
I do love green florals! Have you tried any of Tom Ford’s “Vert” series? They’re very good. The two I like best are Vert de Fleur and Vert Boheme.
I like both of those Verts too and TF’s Ombre de Hyacinth.
I haven’t come across any of the TF Verts yet. But I have noticed that some comtemporary green notes are a little harsh to my nose.
I’m trying to do the same, but it has already proven to be a challenge! I wore Supra Floral this week for the CP; so pretty. Schutze’s Tears of Eros has some of the same notes, specifically hyacinth and incense — have you ever tried that? Opinions on Fragrantica seem to be mixed, to say the least.
No, I’ve never tried Tears of Eros, and it seems to be hard to find in the US. I feel like I remember Luckyscent carrying the brand some time ago.
I had planned on wearing Angel Violette today. The sun is shining so much though, I went with Alien eau Sublime. The happiest of Aliens, and the last great flanker imo. Last night while organizing my perfumes, I realized I am missing my Gucci Rush. How did I not notice!? I’m sure I wore it, and put it back somewhere it doesn’t belong, but where? Lol. Incentive to start cleaning out drawers.
Love the garden of stars series too, almost went with the rose, I bet you smell great in the Alien Sublime and that Rush will turn up, I too occasionally misplace a bottle.
Yes, that whole series was awesome, and the best bottles!
Have Sublime in my Scentbox queue, excited to get some!
Report back on how you like it!
Did your daughter get hold of your Gucci Rush, by any chance? Or does she not like that one?
Now that you mention it, I think she did get ahold of it awhile back. I was afraid she was going to rip the cardboard slipcover of a box. I think I took it, and hid it. Lol. Honestly, how Is it I can remember every episode of Happy Days, yet can’t remember yesterday?
I’m wearing a spray of Oriental Express to start the day. This is a sample I got when I bought Chyprissime a couple of years ago. It’s quite pleasant, but a little too much vanilla for me.
Twins!
Being a vanilla fan, I think you smell great!
Today it’s Miroir des Secrets, aldehydes and patchouli, I have far more TM bottles than I realized. And yes, Secret is really unique as this house tends to be, it’s light and fizzy but persistent.
It sounds totally different from the rest of the Miroir line. You have a great collection!
Sorry for late reply. Yes, this one is very unique, I only have this Secrets and we both have Joyaux, more traditional but very Good too.
I’m a house and line twin in Miroir des Majestes 🙂
Sorry for late reply, so glad we were Miror twins.
Aldehydes and patchouli sound like a great combination to me!
Sorry for late reply. Yes good combo the aldehydes lift the patchouli so that it becomes airy.
I have no Mugler in my collection!
So it’s LM Creme Brulee after a challenging strength training workout.
1) My washing machine decided to start leaking out the bottom, so off to the HD I went! I finally got an account with them with a shockingly large credit limit, because God only knows what’s gonna break NEXT.
2) My friend is signed up for the 2 parter shot for COVID. I hope I am able to get this one as well!
You smell great! I have the Creme Brûlée in soufflé form and like to layer it under fragrances when I need an extra bit of ‘sweet.’
Oh thank you! I need to try the souffle next winter!
Not participating in the CP today. The Alien Cuir that I put on earlier this week wore me! Instead I’m in Chanel No. 19 Poudre.
Very glad the the humidifiers I purchased finally showed up today. Our place is so very dry at the best of times so I hope these help! They are both going full blast right now.
Happy Friday everyone!
You smell amazing. Happy Friday!
Thank you Ede!
To me that’s the absolute worst part of winter – the dryness. Glad your humidifiers showed up!
I don’t have any Mugler so I asked Mr. allo to close his eyes and pick something out of my sample drawer. He picked Fath’s Essentials Vers le Sud. It wouldn’t have been one I’d choose for a cold winter day but that’s the fun of mixing it up.
On a hair oil note, I LOVE Alfaparf Semi Di Lino Diamond Cristalli Liquidi (hair oil). The scent = Monica Vitti and Marcello Mastroianni in a red Alfa Romeo on a treacherous winding road along the Amalfi Coast.
Happy Friday!
My perfume nom de guerre has never been more appropriate. In six healthy squirts of Angel, about six years worth! I bathed with Peaceful Patchouli gel and followed with Peaceful Patchouli moisturizer So that sweet part does not last long on me and we go right to the camphorous patch, which I love. It is interesting to me how different the things we object to smell-wise are.
I spritzed some Angel on my hand at a department store at some point and got something muted and fairly pleasant… Go figure!
For today’s cp, I’m wearing TM Angel Garden of Stars Violette Angel edp. There’s only a tiny bit of dark viscous liquid left in the bottom of the bottle, and the sprayer only emitted two tiny squirts, one for each wrist, but it still smells great and the apparent now-concentrate is extremely potent – it’s lasted all day thus far. A good choice for a winter’s day.
And winter has finally arrived here in the Chicago area. Last weekend my suburb got 6” of snow, then a couple days of very cold weather, and it looks like possibly another 9” of snow this weekend. But we did get a couple of days of blue skies and bright sunshine glistening on the snow, beautiful and peaceful. Each day I bundle up and go sit in our old-fashioned covered glider swing at the back of the garden for awhile to watch the birds at the feeders, commune with nature and listen to the nearby church bells, and it does wonders for my soul. That’s where I’m headed now before the last bit of sun disappears.
Wishing everyone some wonder for your soul this weekend wherever you find it!
I’ve enjoyed some very bundled and not-far-from-home cold weather walks this year, too.
Sitting outside is so healing.
Supra Floral, from the Les Exceptions line of Mugler fragrances! I have had a sample for a while and searched it out for this week’s CP. I like it a lot! It’s an interesting combination of hyacinth, incense, and amber that works surprisingly well, at least on my skin.
It’s one of my favorites too!
SOTD = Mugler Les Exceptions Oriental Express
Powdery woody vanilla iris – OH MY❣️
https://www.instagram.com/p/CKpH5O4hAhT/?igshid=1fvz1iz6qfck3
My first world problem got resolved – the refund was direct deposited to my account within 2 weeks of my filing (it had never been this fast considering I filed by pony express). Now I am wondering why I got the extra check but I will let it be because it will cost me and them more to figure out why even though the extension was approved country-wide (although I think NY State had to pass it independently as a state for state taxes).
It is so cold out I will only open my door to retrieve an Amazon package once it gets here and will also take that opportunity to unlock my mailbox and retrieve my mail. Brrrrr and I am usually not one to complain!
And here’s Robin’s review from 2014:
https://nstperfume.com/2014/08/07/thierry-mugler-oriental-express-perfume-review/
This is a great review ?
I agree!
I definitely get the wood and vanilla with that one!
It’s as good as when I first got it!
You smell fantastic!
Thank you!
Ooh, that sounds great!
Joining a few other NSTers in what I would call “profanely cold” weather. I had an involuntary “F-bomb” slip out when I took out the trash today. The 40-mph gusts are only making things feel worse.
Our cats are quite sensibly camped out on the heat vents.
SOTD = Alien Essence Absolue EdP. The perfume in my cute 30mL bottle has turned the color of root beer. And I seem to turn this perfume “inside out”. I get the amber and resin base notes immediately after I spritz. The jasmine only shows up faintly after a few hours. No vanilla to my nose.
I love the turned color of Essence Absolute. It gives it such a regal look.
I had sun and calm winds today, made it seem less cold. Hopefully it’s heading your way.
The weather forecast for me is looking heinous… possible Nor’Easter starting on Sunday. ? It might last until Tuesday. ? I’m thinking I might grab some stuff for the crockpot tomorrow.
Living in Quebec, I can definitely relate to hideously frigid temps amplified by winds. You have to mentally & physically brace yourself before opening the door.
I’d been hearing the wind howl all day, but I was still unprepared for the blast I got when I opened the front door.
Mine is quite dark and ambery colored too. That’s funny that you get no vanilla, it’s such a vanilla BOMB on me.
I get so much amber that any vanilla in there is drowned out. The quirks of personal chemistry…
Wow! The inside out wearing is new on me but I bet it makes for interesting wearing.
I was going to go to Costco on Monday but with the storm, I am going to get more stuff at Wegmans / WholeFoods instead!
If the weather turns out as predicted, Monday is going to be a good day to hunker down and stay put. We shall see.
I’m off CP in Scotch Porter’s Glenwood, which I find to be just as calming for me as CdG’s Jaisalmer. An instant lowering of blood pressure.
Happy Friday, everybody!
Do tell more about Glenwood!
Falls into the same woody oriental category as Jaisalmer. Notes taken from their website:
Top Notes: Cardamom, Pink Pepper and Coconut Milk
Middle Notes: Smoky Cedar, Deep Greens, Amyris and Violet Leaf
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Leather, Patchouli, Amber, Frankincense and White Musk
Strikes me as a very calming, light incense, temple-like, cool and meditative.
Thank you!
That sounds fantastic.
Finishing Mugler week with Angel Fruity Fair, my only Mugler FB. I like it better than Angel modern version; I never smelled the vintage. Fruity Fair has a “rose thorn” note, which is a green note, and “whipped cream” and vanilla, and they all play very nicely with the patchouli for me. I got it for the beautiful bottle, and the Mugler website was having some other special at the time. If anyone else has the Fruity Fair star, I ask: does you bottle make a soft little squeaky sound when you spray?? I can’t help but wonder if M. Mugler added that as a little “fun house” extra! Thanks for everyone’s reviews; a few of you may have goaded my lemming, but overall, the House of Mugler is not too tempting as most just wear me instead of the other way ’round.
I’m in Mugler Aura today, for cp points. Now I’m off to read comments to see if I have any fragrance twins. ?
Me!! :-). Aura twin.
Hey, twin! ?
Did you wear the EDT or the EDP?
Had to check the teensy label….it’s the EDP. ?
SotD = CdG Avignon
because it was handily waiting on my desk this morning. And it begins with A like Angel, plus CdG and Mugler both get attention for being a bit fantastically nuts. So there it is, CP adjacent at least.
50 days? Bah, I look askance at winter and say, “You have no more business with me!”
I woke up feeling like today would be the day I get the best of winter, rather than the other way around.
Rain gave way to sun and cold air. I gave in to the welcome feeling of really wanting to get outdoors for exercise, rather than doing it because it’s good for me like I have for the past few months. ?
So if the winter doldrums are chasing you down, don’t look back Look forward. ??
Great attitude tiffanie! I’m looking ahead with you????
yay! 😀 We got this!
