It's Tuesday and National Marzipan Day. (Also, Raf Simons' birthday.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm not quite in marzipan, but I can claim the thread of bitter almond in Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto.
Reminder: on 1/15, wear a fragrance to match Ultimate Gray and/or Illuminating, Pantone's colors of the year for 2021.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Nina teapot ("The Nina is a modern spin on the classic teapot. It features a large comfortable handle, textural finish and distinctive smooth shape. Perfect for a calm afternoon of quiet contemplation, you may find you’ve drained the whole pot before you know it.") from Viva Scandinavia is about €42. (And if it looks familiar, you have a good memory: we featured the same teapot, in green, back in 2018.)
Oh I have been in a sad, mad , heartsick mood. So just better not to post and haven’t even worn fragrance these last days.
Today will aim for rose 31 after shower.
Sorry for your bad mood apsara. We will be rose 31 twins!
Sending hugs. I know 2021 is continuing to be rocky for many of us; you have my heartfelt wishes that whatever is getting you down can and does start to turn around soon.
Sending hugs!
Sorry for your very sad news. Be kind to yourself. ((HUGS))
Sending hugs and positive vibes!
I am with you, hang in there!
I am so with you!
Wish perfume were the answer to everything
Hoping your mood lifts soon! Sending hugs ?
I hope you find some relief soon, aspara, these are hard days. Be patient with yourself ?
I encourage you to wear some beautiful perfume today. I hope things get better for you soonest!
You are not alone in feeling heartsick apsara.
2021 is off to a very bumpy start. Adding my good wishes that it gets better soon.
Scented hugs!!!
I’m with you too apsara. ?
I’m with you – you definitely are not alone. Sending hugs.
So sorry! Take care of yourself.
Right there with you. Take it easy, okay?
It is very easy to be disheartened and afraid right now. Please find solace in this wonderful and caring community. My antidote is always fragrance, books and good movies and walks with my little old poodle.
What stinker_kit said. All the soothing things. Gentle hugs, apsara!
thank you all for your kindness. but then, that’s what makes nsters the best.
everyone has something right now lots of heartache and worries to go around.
Rose 31 is lovely and a cup of hot chocolate and onto the next meeting.
Sorry to hear that, hope today will be better.
Sending you (good smelling!) hugs today. The world seems kinda stuck in a bad spot at the moment, but we will all get thru to the other side with each other’s support!
Yeah, it’s all a bit grim and tedious. I wake up and think “shall I just call in sick?” but it’s not the sort of sick you can cure with a duvet day. Hang on in there! :^)
Hugs sent your way!
Hugs.
I really hear you.
Been feeling the same way. You are not alone. Oh, and I had a couple days last week where I didn’t wear perfume, and that’s pretty rare for me.
I’m sorry about your doldrums, I’m feeling them too this week. Yesterday’s SOTD was 4160 Tuesdays’ Maxed Out, new to me, and I liked it very much, so there’s that. I may need a comfort scent today (Wednesday), so L’Ambre des Merveilles is calling to me.
Ooh, I love that teapot! It appeals to my Scandinavian roots.
I’m in LL Rose 31 from a newly arrived sample. This is lovely. I ordered a few from LL. Another 13 was among them and I tried that last night. At first spray it was lovely and then very quickly turned into an ambroxan bomb on my skin. Blech. Needed to scrub, that one will go immediately into the giveaway pile.
I wish I could see that teapot in person — I am tempted to put it in line for my next teapot breakage, but I fear it is hard to keep tea stains off that finish.
Oh yeah, I hadn’t thought about stains. The color and lines really appeal to me. We are in the process of repainting our entire house gray and that would just go so well. But alas! I canNOT fall down the teapot rabbit hole too!
I bet it would feel really nice and smooth in your hands, especially when warmed by some hot tea.
Yes! One really wants to stroke it!
I was wondering about that finish, too. Kind of like having a textured backsplash. I know I wouldn’t be able to keep that clean.
I have handled the green one and I think it will stain easily, it is gorgeous thought, I love that Grey colour.
Thank you austenfan!
Don’t give it to me! Lol!, I hate ambroxan bombs.
Lol, I know! I thought of you right away!?
Sorry I missed wishing you happy birthday yesterday! I am also a huge fan of the teapot.
Like you, I also disliked Another 13, which surprised because usually I have no problem with ambroxan.
Thanks! I think this is the first time I have known it was ambroxan. I have gotten that note from many others perfumes but didn’t know what to pinpoint it to. At least now I know what to avoid.
I can’t remember if I posted this link for you…weren’t you the one introducing your daughter to Wes Anderson? https://instagram.com/accidentallywesanderson?igshid=1qeuohecrhg6i
Yes! Thanks!?
I’ll third the dislike fo Another 13. If I remember right, there was a lot of pepper as well…?
Possibly, but I couldn’t make it past the ambroxan.?
I am having a smoke/incense, leather and balsamic phase lately,
But today i felt the need for something airy and soft.
Maybe it was because the sun suddenly made an appearance (after quite a few grey days).
I picked Le Cri de La Lumière.
No regrets.
I am joining you in le Cri, soft & airy sounded great. 🙂 We have sun too.
In Teo Cabanel Barkhane and having my second Turkish date cookie with a cup of coffee before facing a boring work Zoom meeting.
Happy Tuesday, everyone! ?
I need to find my sample of that one. I’m really enjoying their Cafe Cabanel scent.
Hope you find that sample.
How is the coffee note on Cafe Cabanel?
I think it’s delicious! It’s more of a sweet cafe latté than a brut espresso. 🙂
I’ve got one of those Zoom meetings this morning, too. Ugh. At least we can attend enveloped in a cloud of scent!
I am glad is over! Like you, I spray abundantly every time I have any online meeting. I will miss that when I eventually get back to the office.
Love the smell of coffee, but am not sure if I want to smell of it! ☕
SotD St. Clair Scents Song of Aubrac – on an itsy-bitsy narcissus theme this week.
This perfume is THE antidote to the doldrums. It is currently defying the snow outside and the chunky turtleneck sweater I’m wearing, and sings out that spring WILL come and things will get better. Ahhhhhhh…
Was going to save this til Friday for CP points – but needed a hit of that irrepressible optimism today ?
Spring had better come early this year! I am warning you, winter!
If enough of us talk to it sternly it’s bound to work, no? ?
You would hope.
Sounds amazing.
That brand (like a lot of other interesting artisan/niche USA perfume brands) is nowhere to be found in Europe.
I think I understand why (practical reasons…hassle of shipping overseas).
Part of me is sad about it, part of me still needs to try/retry and empty dozens and dozens of samples from other brands ??
So there is no real problem here.
But still…..i would not mind if an importer/niche shop here in EU specalised in USA brands and made them easier available on this side of the pond.
It got a lot of acclaim but I like the one it was released with (Pharaoh’s Passion) better.
I was trying to be reasonable with my funds so I just did Song of Aubrac at the time, but Pharaoh’s Passion (and many other of the house’s offerings) are on my long game to-try list!
Ack. So many excellent indie perfumers, and not enough $$$$ to spend.
My nose’s wish list is so very long! But I tell myself that it means there’s always something to look forward to.
Ooh, tell us more! Song of Aubrac is on my to-try list, I’m a fan of St. Clair Scents’ first releases, especially Gardener’s Glove and First Cut.
Testing the last of my JM samples, Lime Basil & Mandarin Cologne.
I still want to try orange blossom and some others. Maybe during the next swap meet I can swap for some samples.
Mr L and I are finishing up the formula 1 series on Netflix and I am developing a crush on Sir Hamilton. What really stole my heart was the beauty of the Ferrari cars. How can a car be so sexy?
Tea is my own Shalimar brew: a mix of early grey, green tea and vanilla tea. A loose mariage of the recipe V on BdJ gave.
Oh! That combination of teas sound intriguing and tasty!
I’ll need to check out the Formula 1 series – if you think cars are sexy, you should see my mechanic, he races cars in his spare time and at 6′, black hair and green eyes, he oozes sensuality out of every pore.
Well, since most NSTers are having a bad start of the year or moody, I think its your mechanics duty to pose for some photos and share with all of us ?❤️
I second that!
I don’t have a car, I don’t live on that side of the country, so I can’t all of the sudden need something fixed 🙂
Does he have a website? We can just droll, I mean we can just look…
Here ya go! 😀
https://www.porschedes.com/
Jimmy is a really nice (and honest) guy. When my Mercedes had work that was still under warranty, that I was unaware of, he told me to go to the dealership and how to handle it.
I took my 30 year old Mercedes diesel to him and my 2008. He’s really good people. His mom runs the front office, and he and his dad own the business. He is a dedicated family man and all around good person.
The video and interview with Jimmy is at the bottom of the page.
1. I never wanted to be a car so bad in my life ?
2. I will have the best dreams.. I mean sleep..tonight ?
Thank you SmokeyT
How wonderfull to blend tea like a perfume!!
Hello all! My SOTD is Clinique Aromatics Elixir Perfumer’s reserve – I’d describe it as a cross of Aromatics Elixir, with the mossy/herbal/earthy vibe, over an oriental base. Despite only being dabbed, it’s overwhelming. This may go into the swap pile, after I scrub off with bleach in the shower.
Terrible night’s sleep, I think I consumed green tea too late in the day. I’m bleary eyed… 😯
Not sleeping is awful, last week was horrible for insomnia. Just take everything one step at a time and hope you sleep better tonight!
Sorry about the scrubber.
I don’t think anyone slept well in our home either
I am sorry for your experience with this fragrance. I know my bottle is not a spray bottle and I usually put a little bit on a cotton ball and judiciously dab around. Why do fragrances we dislike persist?
Yikes. Good luck with the scrub!
Beady eyed twins with you today. We shall soldier on!
Lol, *bleary.
Lol! It made sense to me.
Hey, Beady eyed is applicable! There’s no amount of mascara and concealer that will open these eye balls of mine today. I look like I have two pinpricks for eyeballs! 😀
That AE Perfumer’s Reserve sounds rather intriguing, even if it is a Godzilla perfume. Did a specific note rub you the wrong way, or was it just too much of a muchness?
It was just way too much of a ‘big hairy’ muchness. I think it’d be more wearable if it were in an EdT formulation. I love resins in a perfume but this is all resins and heavy mosses, which is overwhelming to me….
Good morning NST!
SOTD is Incense Oud (By Kilian) which I find extremely office friendly and have worn the heck out of for the past few months. I’m down to the last 10 mLs of my refill bottle (I was too cheap to buy the fancy one) and I don’t think it’s available anymore.
I’m honoring teapot Tuesday by drinking tea/herbal stuff today (in reality my stomach is protesting the daily coffee I’ve been having lately). Plus, it keeps me warm.
Sorry your stomach isn’t liking coffee! I can only have a half a latte a day, for other health reasons. But I do like that half latte when somebody (and by somebody, I basically mean my husband) will bring me one 🙂
I have been sleeping in just *slightly* later than Mr. Teebear recently in a shamefully transparent effort to have my first coffee not be made by my own hands…
I want familiar beauty in my perfume after a shower today, will it be Coco, Shalimar, maybe Arpege….probably Shalimar.
The sun is supposed to shine, nothing yet but I’m willing to be optimistic. Hagd, all.
We did get some decent sun today, hope you did too ringthing!
Shalimar for the win!
I had sun today, and it made such a difference in my mood.
Good morning Y’all,
Projecting a little bit too much at the moment in Ego Facto Poopoo Pidoo. LOL I sure do love this one! I smell like the inside of a fancy makeup bag….
I do love that name. Smelling like a fancy makeup bag is a good thing! 😀
You smell great today Jada!
Maison Louie Marie Bois de Balincourt today. Many compare this to LL Santal 33, but I think this is more floral than that (and less pickle).
These Zoom days are very long. Joining many of you in wishing for spring!
I literally just got a sample of Santal 33 yesterday to compare to that one! Have to do a side by side later this week.
Oh, do report your findings!
I find the Balincourt to be smoother and softer than Santal 33, although I’ve only tried the Balincourt in perfume oil form. And yes, I agree, less pickle!
I gave their discovery set to my daughter. I think their scents are overall well done – make for good candles, too!
Finished my sample of CdG Jasailmar today. I like it, but it didn’t make the full bottle list. I think my favorite is Zagorsk, although like everyone else I wish they would do a little coffret of the incense series a la Hermes.
That should be Jaisalmer, obviously. I usually know how to spell . . .
Oh, that would be an amazing coffret!
I think I like Zagorsk the best with Kyoto a close 2nd.
I would totally love a coffret!
An Incense Series coffret would be amazing!
Sampling DSH for the first time w/ Vanilla Bourbon Intense in the VdP which is oil based I believe.
So far it’s nice but not wowing me. Reminds of a few from Kyse as well.
How did you make your choices for samples from DSH? Every time I think about ordering some, I’m just totally overwhelmed by her productivity.
I usually email her and tell her what I’m interested in (notes, feel) and she gives suggestions.
Funny, it never occurred to me that I could reach out like that, even when I’ve had very positive experiences connecting with other perfumers! Maybe I’ll be brave one of these days. 🙂
Yes, the number of fragrances is kind of daunting so I went w/ two discovery sets: Gourmand no. 1 Vanilla and Gourmand no. 3 Sweets.
Sample sets make a lot of sense!
Saved my wrist all day for a delivery of Le Lion, had such high hopes for this one, but it turns out to smell like a campfire on me. Not what I aim to smell like now…
Oh no! Give it another try or two.
I think I will stick to the ones I loved from the start. Can’t even finish them in my lifetime ?
Sorry it didn’t work on you. Money saved
Yes and already spent elsewhere!!
Must be a fancy campfire!
For glamping ?
Uh oh, hopefully you are working with a sample and not a FB.
Yes!! I only opened the sample!
That’s what Sycomore smells like on me. Sorry for the disappointment. 🙁
Yes and already spent elsewhere!!
Sorry wrong message!!
I can imagine, Sycomore is sometimes difficult on me too.
Uh oh! I hope that it wasn’t a full bottle disappointment.
No, they sent a sample with it so I can return the bottle!! Not the price point for a blind buy ??
I’m wearing L’Original by Andree Putman today. I’ve really been gravitating toward earthy or spa scents lately in response to how I’m feeling about the world and this is my favorite “lobby of a hotel with a very fancy day spa” scent.
Anxiety is on high alert. We’re going to be going back to school in person next week, but with 1/3 of the students in the classroom and 2/3 virtual, rotating weekly. I’m having a very hard time trying to figure out how the logistics of this are going to work and how to provide a decent experience for all of the kids. While having to constantly clean. Sigh. And I’m not going to mention any of the other things that are not helping my mood.
I feel your anxiety! I don’t know how teachers juggle this, and I feel very bad for our educators.
My son has the option to go back to the classroom next week, but I’m keeping him home and seems like about 1/3 of the class will stay virtual. It wasn’t an easy decision.
Oh, sistine, I’m so sorry you are in that situation! My district is keeping us all home for now, and every 3 weeks or so, they tell us they’ll decide again in 3 weeks or so. . . We have been given no clear idea of what “in person” would look like, except that for kids it’s likely only a few hours, a few days a week, and probably they’re just sitting in one room the whole time, even though we’re a middle school. My guess is it would really be the same instructional model as teaching virtually, just with some kids away from home a few hours a week.
How soon can you get the vaccine? I would hope teachers would be very high on the priority list.
Sistine, I am so sorry, that really does sound anxiety producing.
I’m so sorry. My neighbor who is a middle school teacher has been juggling this kind of thing too. Luckily, no one at her school has gotten sick, but I know it’s a challenge.
Hugs, friend. I can’t imagine trying to coordinate all of that.
I’m sorry Sistine. Our school is doing the same thing next week.
Sending you so many positive thoughts…. Not sure how much good it’ll do you, but I know that YOU’RE doing good for the kids by being invested in the outcome of this strange strange academic year.
Gah! I really feel for educators right now, caught between a rock and a hard place. My sympathies.
Hugs and good luck to you! One of my daughters is a co-teacher and they went back onsite this week, with some kids there and some online. It’s definitely a challenge but she’s managing. The lead teacher is very experienced so that helps a LOT.
SOTD is MMM Whispers in the Library, a cozy vanilla. After years of not liking vanilla in perfumes, I am warming to it.
We’ve been watching loads of old movies lately. Recently saw Auntie Mame, which I hadn’t seen in years. There’s a scene where Mame gives her household Christmas gifts; the housekeeper’s gift is a bottle of perfume (“Smells French!”) Of course I’m sitting there trying to figure out what perfume it is (what else does a perfumista do when a perfume bottle appears onscreen?); it’s been bugging me for days. I knew the bottle looked familiar, but what was it? Finally got it! It’s Shalimar in the montre flacon:
https://guerlainperfumes.blogspot.com/2013/07/shalimar-montre-flacon.html
I love those Montre Flacons!
Ooooh. I’ve had a yearning for one of those bottles since I learned of their existence. Simple lines, but so beautiful. And now I want to go find the movie!
Wouldn’t it be great if Guerlain would re-issue that bottle?
It would be awesome. I especially love the glass stopper, but I’m so conflicted about getting a bottle on the ‘bay. They are splash, so one would have to really trust the seller. ?
My very first bottle of perfume was Shalimar cologne splash in one of those bottles. I was ten, so didn’t appreciate it, and tried to use the cap as a Barbie hat. It couldn’t get it to stay on her head?
lol, Barbie hat 🙂
One of flacons features in a bathtub (sex) scene in Shaft, I believe (it may have been in Superfly because I saw them in a double feature.) I, of course, was trying to figure out which scent..figured it was likely a Shalimar bath oil. Wanted it so much.
Oh…and Auntie Mame is a brilliant movie. Who doesn’t need a boa-lined silk robe?
It is a great movie. Wish I’d had an Auntie Mame!
Love that!
Excellent perfume detective work!
Another day of Dia, from an official Amouage sample so will find out how many days the sample will last.
Those samples are a pretty good size, and most Amouage scents have enough heft to them to only need a few spritzes. . . Put me down for 10 sampling days for the office pool! 😉
Dia is a good one.
Those Amouage samples are nice!
You smell great Robin! That was a successful blind buy for me.
Since it’s National Marzipan Day, then it must be time for Lancôme Jasmins Marzipane. I need no excuse but happy to have one.
Ornaments and lights are off the tree. One of the staff in our building will come up later to bag the tree and remove it. One of the great advantages of doorman buildings. They do this so they don’t have tenants getting needles everywhere if they try to remove a tree themselves… A win-win.
I wish I’d had a doorman this weekend…I will be finding needles for months.
Jasmins Marzipane — brilliant! I have one of the small bottles of this, should have thought to pull it out!
I’ve pretty well gone through the travel spray I bought and happily got a bigger BUB at a Lancôme sale. It really is lovely.
Whoa, snow is falling all around today. It’s not super cold (it will get colder in following days according to forecast) so I’m even enjoying this white scenery.
SotD is Carner Barcelona Drakon.
Hurrah for snow, I wish we had snow here.
Only the most southern part of The Netherlands has snow. For the rest of us its rain, clouds…if you are lucky: a few rays of sun.
Too busy at work to make the 2 hour trip to the south, but cant go on weekends (because then the area is overrun by visitors).
Sounds like Vancouver weather — no snow here, just rain, clouds, and a very occasional patch of blue sky. We did make the trip to the snow (on one of the mountains above the city) but it was also overrun by visitors, so it will be a while before we do that again.
If we’re house-bound anyway, I’d love to see some snow here. 🙂 Enjoy the whiteness, lucasai!
Is Grouse Mountain open, ockeghem? I think they’re allowing skiing at Mt. Hood down here, but I don’t know what they’re doing about services at the lodge.
Oh you have mountains nearby, i am so jealous!
I visited Vancouver when I was 18.
We stayed there for one day, so i dont remember that much ?
I do remember the beauty of Banff and Jasper National Parks though. Amazing ????
Took the afternoon off to go and buy my sons some clothes. The youngest, only 14, is now 5’9″ like his brother. Sniffed Gucci’s Memoire d’une Odéur for the first time. I just wasn’t interested before, but the pandemic changed my standards I guess. I found it kind of bland.
Will go and spray some Ostara from a sample – inspired by Teebear.
Wow – that’s tall for 14!
I’ll break out my Ostara sample to copy you tomorrow!
Hope your kids keep the growth at a reasonable pace for the next year or two and don’t make you buy them pants with (even) longer inseams too soon!
(A wish my parents surely had; I would say they were doomed to disappointment, but really my brother and I were just doomed to ankle waders since we kept growing up, but not out!)
Your comment brings back memories! My sisters and I were the same, tall, thin and long legged. Mom tried to save money by sewing a lot of our clothes, and often cut the pants a leeetle bit short. You could buy less fabric that way! We were forever in high waters. It’s funny to think about now.
I love Ostara — still can’t believe they discontinued it. Luckily I have back-up. I hope the clothes-shopping was successful!
I’m in my new Bois des Iles EDP today, mostly spritzed on my scarf. Heavenly.
And I’m drinking my usual weekday yerba maté, but dreaming of Lovestosmellgood’s shalimar tea mix!
Congrats on your new Bois des Iles bottle (also known as Box of Eels around here). You smell fantastic!
Box of Eels, I love that!
Oh my I am struggling this morning. From the profound (one of my favorite young, sweet, smart, funny, generous colleagues is sick as hell with COVID, as is her husband of less than a year) and banal (my research has stalled on something because I cannot figure a work-around to get adobe flash player items to play). All I want to do is go for long walks and instead I am at my computer trying to sound much smarter than I am about things I am feeling increasingly ambivalent about. Grrrrrr. I’m in Tabac Aurea, so there’s that.
May your friend recover quickly and may you find your work-around!
Flash is completely kaput as of December 2020, from what I understand. I use a textbook in some courses that has supplemental material in Flash, and my inquiry to our IT department in September about conversions or workarounds got a “not possible, you’re just going to lose that material” reply.
ugh!
poor you
Hoping for your colleague’s recovery (and her husband’s, too).
Swift recovery to your friend & her husband. You smell great!
Hope your afternoon will be better.
Hoping your colleague and her husband make a swift turnaround to improve. I’ve been through that same ambivalence at work on items that take so much effort for no good reason.
I hope your colleagues will both improve – it’s good that they are young, I guess!
Sorry on the tech issues. I spent hours on that last week, such a time sink!
This:
All I want to do is go for long walks and instead I am at my computer trying to sound much smarter than I am about things I am feeling increasingly ambivalent about.
sums up my short foray into research 😀
So sorry!
As for the flash problem, have you tried different browsers?
I think most of them have phased out the support of flash already but maybe Firefox is an option?
Firefox will end support for Adobe Flash in Firefox at the end of 2020, as announced back in 2017. Adobe and other browsers will also end support for Flash in January and we are working together to ensure a smooth transition for all.
“Firefox version 84 will be the final version to support Flash. Firefox version 85 (release date: January 26, 2021) will ship without Flash support, improving our performance and security. There will be no setting to re-enable Flash support.”
More info in this article. And maybe the commercial option mentioned at the end of the article can be a solution?
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/end-support-adobe-flash
Wish you luck on getting that flash content working! ?
Too grumpy now to go back to this problem, but I really appreciate your info. At least I can see what happens using FireFox.
Thanks for everyone’s sweetness. I am pretty bereft that my colleague is going through this. She is a really special young woman who goes out on a limb for her colleagues and friends and is always generous with her time and expertise. She is across the country, so I can’t bring her food or anything else. I ordered a large basket of scones for her today–hopefully it will cheer her and her husband–but that may be wishful thinking.
Oops. That was for everyone!
I’m so sorry to hear about your co-worker. People really block out that this virus can be serious even for young people, it’s very unpredictable in individual cases. I hope she and her husband recover soon. The scones are such a kind gift! And good luck with your work/research challenges — I’ve also found it hard to focus on work since last Wednesday.
Sending so many hugs your way and also prayers for your coworker and her husband.
I heard about some Flash items being archived on the Internet, but am not sure if that would help you.
Fingers crossed for your coworker and her husband! ???
Sorry Oakland Fresca! Really hope your friends will be ok.
My slightly used, 50 ml bottle of L’Artisan Timbuktu arrived. The EBay seller included a sample of Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan which is very similar to Pacifica’s Spanish Amber and I like it! I have a more recent sample of Timbuktu and shall do a side by side. Oh no! I think we can say with no hesitation that L’Artisan fragrances were massively reformulated when the company was sold. The dry downs of my dueling Timbuktus are similar but the opening is not even close. So, get an older bottle. I see them for sale at all the resellers and you can often find them for about what they sold for originally, accounting for inflation. I think some fragrances fared better than others. Safran Troublant and Passage D’Enfer seem in good shape to my nose but your mileage may vary.
oh no!!!
Yeah, I avoid anything in the smoked glass bottles with black caps.
I think there are also some forgeries out there.
I agree. I purchased 2 samples and one bottle last year directly from the L’Artisan website. I purchased my older Timbuktu from a trusted seller.
Thanks for the heads up on Timbuktu! I feel much better about panic buying it when I did.
I am sure you are right that it’s been reformulated, but head to head comparisons like that are misleading because aging will also affect how the older bottle smells. You really can’t be sure *exactly* how they differ, and often the top notes are the first to change.
Montale Full Incense. Tried to get an appointment for a covid vaccine, but was not successful. Will try again tomorrow morning.
You smell fantastic! I love Full Incense! I wore it last night to bed and it was very relaxing!
My boyfriend said it smells like a lot of catholic masses all together…. He is right!
So true!
I like this one a lot too. For me it’s a little less dry that Avignon. I think it’s the elemi that makes it special!
Good luck getting the vaccine!
Oh, that Montale sounds fabulous!
Going for the easy and literal CP points today in Gris Clair. Every time I wear it, I wonder why I do not wear it more often — but it is still probably going to be the first Lutens FB I finish (sometime around 2028?).
My husband and I both got whooshed into Phase 1B of the NY State vaccination program yesterday (in-person higher ed instructors). There are currently no clinic sessions with openings, and we are still waiting for guidance on how to prove our “job role” (in addition to employer, which is easy) if we do ever get clinic spots. I am shocked that our category was added this early, so will just be patient.
Patience is indeed very needed. I have also been trying to make an appointment for my elderly mother since yesterday and I have not found any clinic here in NY with openings yet. I will keep checking every day, but it looks like it will take long time before she gets that appointment for the vaccine.
I helped my parents sign up for our state’s list. Do any of these people realize how many over 75’s don’t have or can’t use email?
Also, it asked for health insurance. Was that supposed be medicare or their medicare supplement? No instructions given.
Thanks for the info regarding the insurance. I will have to keep that in mind during the registration process for my mother.
I called an elderly neighbor yesterday to mention to her that the township is now taking registrations for Phase 1B (I assume she’s older than 75 but maybe she just did not she well). She thanked me and said another neighbor also called her. She had called the number and left a message about how unhappy she is with the (lack of) progress. Seriously, we apparently got 500 doses (no missing zeros) and the next 500 is coming soon. It’s not a big operation so I could have told her to just register and not complain but that’s what she likes to do – complain.
Complaining definitely doesn’t help. Getting a vaccine, especially for old people is going to be a long and painful process. I am sure many will not get the vaccine now because they will not know how to navigate the registration system. Let’s hope for the best one things calm down.
Its amazing that many of my older retired neighbors have not gotten the vaccine yet..I keep telling them to be patient. But some have very little access to the internet or not savvy in that sense so I am not sure how they are being reached.
Our local healthcare system has said that it is making phone calls to patients 75 and older to let them know when an appointment has become available. That age may now drop to 65 for NYS. But it doesn’t help older people who may not have a regular healthcare provider. I am feeling pretty unhappy that I may get vaccinated before so many elderly people. I won’t refuse the vaccine — but I will worry.
I think the early add was releasing dosages that had been held back to administer second doses.
I saw an article that talked about the hoops and uploads required for elderly. Seriously? Talk about not understanding a demographic…
But, it’s overall good news that we are progressing.
My husband is 1B, but boy is the process in PA confusing.
Great that you’re within striking distance of getting the vaccine! The best Christmas gift we got this year is that my dear 90 year-old FIL got his first shot just before Christmas at his assisted living facility and should get the second one this week. What a relief! With that done, I’m happy to wait my turn as I am fortunate enough to have a job I can do fully remotely, and plenty of grocery delivery options. I’m counting my blessings. Good luck to all of you who are trying to get vulnerable relatives vaccinated.
SOTD: Aedes de Venustus. Sticking with dry scents this week, to make sure there’s no whiff of “eau de dead rat in the ceiling.” Anything sweet starts to make me wonder if I’m smelling the smell from beyond the closed bedroom door. Ugh.
The rhubarb makes this a green, verging on slightly red, sort of scent. Or is that too literal? 😀
Eau de dead rat? Urgh.
Yeah. Exterminators can’t get here before Thursday, but there’s definitely something dead up there. I tried to get up into the (unfinished) attic, but our ladder is too short. We’ve been sleeping in the guest bedroom the last two nights, since the smell is coming from straight over our bed.
Oh nooooo. Hope you are able to hang on until Thursday!
Thanks, KellyC! I only go in there to use the nice shower off our bedroom. I don’t mind the futon for a few nights to avoid the stink! I just hope they are able to remove it when they get here.
Oh Nooooooooo! The absolute worst. I lived in an apartment where a squirrel got into the walls once and I have so very much sympathy for you right now. Hope they can get in there and get *it* out soon whatever it is!!!!!
I’m in Montale Chocolate Greedy, from a scentbird decant. Easy to wear is what I need today, since I’m operating on two hours of sleep. I worried about everything under the sun last night.
It’s time to stay positive, take a walk or two with the Wild One, bake something easy (one bowl brownies?) and have a mug of hot chocolate this afternoon. Oh, and don’t make any big financial decisions.
Lots of chocolate. I see a pattern here.
Chocolate is so helpful when one needs rest and recovery! I’m glad you’re taking care of yourself in all the ways. 🙂
I’m with you on all of the above! I ended up taking a sleeping pill at 1:30. Hope you have a better night tonight.
I should have done that last night. Won’t make that mistake tonight!
I hope you sleep better tonight, too.
Chocolate is definitely the answer.
I maybe potentially bought 6 bars of chocolate at the pharmacy the other day… Just in case. You never know when medical cocoa is the prescription!
I think we all need to stock up!
I added some chocolate bars to my stash earlier today. It seemed like a good idea at the time…
Out with a friend right now and wearing Theorema. Need, no, craved Theorema today.
🙂
Still Les Néréides but it’s the turn of Impérial Opoponax. Marvel every time at its resemblance to the drydown of Shalimar.
My Amouage of the day is Dia Man. It’s good in an understated way. I like it quite a bit. The weather had changed from cold and sunny to miserabele and wet. So it suits my mood, feeling really fed up with everything. Which will pass.
“Amouage of the Day” sounds ultra-luxe!
I used the “close eye and whatever hand touches” selection method today. Paloma Black. The tall bottle gives it an advantage.
But it is a nice comfort scent.
I have been known to use that method!
I’m in the barest teensy spritz of Cuir Ottoman this morning, for another in a string of dental visits. Hopefully this was the last of what seems like dozens (but was probably under 10) bite impressions that had to be taken for various reasons. Fang preservation takes work!
It does. But I will say x-rays seem much easier than when I was young. Less uncomfortable also. I was admonished to floss more regularly. No specific issues but told they might if I don’t get better. (I’ve always been an intermittent flosser…)
Personally, I think they say that to everybody, no matter what kind of shape their teeth are in. 😀
I often gag and cough when they put the x ray thingies in because they are so big!
Oh dear – and I bet that cough-jiggling sometimes means they have to retake the images. One of the impressions they took today was of ALL of my upper teeth, and the goo they used got far enough back to engage my gag reflex. Not fun at all.
Especially in Covid times – nobody wants coughing patients right now! So, before Covid, it was just me freaking out with the xrays – and now the poor dental assistants are freaking out with me…
Twins! We smell great! 🙂
I’ve always hated doing bite impressions, and still do. It’s just an overall majorly Not Fun Thing. I can’t imagine having to do so many!
Nice teapot and cups set!
SOTD = Pacifica Spanish Amber
Resinous amber incense- how can you not love this? ?. With the CP on kinda sorta matching Illuminating.

In other news, Undina has her entertaining statistics post up and you must go and read it. I thought I would try my hand at doing a back of the envelope with IG postings even though I too a break in June – early July so these do not reflect the “lost weeks”. I posted similar stats in a comment.
1. Top 3 houses out of 63 worn – Chanel (31), Guerlain (23) and Tauer (13). The Tauer surprised me! I wore No.19 EDP 12 times but so am 100% sure I wore it several times during my hiatus.
2) I wore Indie houses 95 (!) times. Top houses: Chris Rusak (9), April Aromatics / Zoologist / SSS (7, tied), St. Clair (6) and Jorum Studio (5).
3) Caturday – 24 (I previously reported 22)
4) ?- 32 (I previously reported 29)
And no, I won’t be tracking on a spreadsheet or any tool and will just do a hand count next year!
Do you think the fact that you record what you wear influences your choices? I tried noting everything I was eating for a while and I was a bit more reluctant to eat ‘unhealthy’ stuff if I was going to write it down. Not sure if there is a perfume parallel!
I suppose it generally stopped me from wearing what I don’t like but I do have a surplus of choices …
I’m guessing many of us do!
I always say I want to track but then fall off doing it. Love seeing your stats!
Thanks, yeah, I am rotten with the tracking but this is a reasonable proxy.
Pacifica’s Spanish Amber is my #1 pick for an amber perfume. It even beat out Serge Luten’s Ambre Sultan.
Oh, and Yay for Caturday! ?
I think Ambre Sultan might be cheaper based on the ludicrous pricing for discontinued Pacifica perfumes I have been seeing on EBay?
I lucked out and got a bottle at Whole Foods when they were still selling it.
I am certain you wore No.19 more than 12 times. I don’t have proof, I just know! Side note- my son is constantly asking me for proof of things I tell him.. it makes me crazy ?
Wow, Udina’s stats and tracking were so fascinating! Thanks for sharing. I’m in awe of her dedication to the data. 😀
I recently started a spreadsheet of all the fragrances I own, but a daily tracker spreadsheet might be too much for me to handle.
Was playing today so currently wearing Eau des Missions with Geranium Bourbon on left arm and Etro’s Patchouli with Orange Sanguine on the other. Both are very nice. I did try Orange Sanguine and Geranium Bourbon together but that got soaped off pretty fast 😀
A layering scrubber!! But cool that you found 2 combos that work.
I don’t know if it was horrifying enough to be called a scrubber. When I try layer ‘orientals’ I DO end up with bona fida scrubbers ?. This was just mildly unpleasant… I liked geranium Bourbon better with Eau Missiones then on its own but actually Orange Sanguine and Patchouli was the true stunner ?
Copying Robin from yesterday in NV – was it Pichola? Am I wearing a different NV? Brain is fried….
You cannot go wrong with Neela Vermeire. You smell great!
Hope your brain is rested now, whatever NV you were wearing! I was definitely in Pichola.
Sitting in a yummy cloud of Angel Muse and finalizing(?) my Sundance schedule. These virtual film festivals are really easy and accessible (would never get to do Sundance otherwise, since I’m not industry, just an enthusiast) but I’ve been missing the community of the in person ones I do have reasonable access to. Hopefully by the time the bulk of them roll around in the fall we’ll all be happy and vaccinated.
Smelling super good in AM!
Angel Muse falls into the “comfort scent” category for me. Nice choice!
It is such a cozy, warm scent.
Commando today due to my first ever dermatologist appointment. It went well, but there were a couple of spots the doc didn’t quite like the look of, so I have a follow up scheduled in a few months’ time.
Back to perfumed antics tomorrow, yay!
Glad the appointment went well!
Me too. I was a little apprehensive about everything beforehand.
Woo hoo! To perfume (tomorrow)!
Yep!
Glad you went, and will be doing a follow-up.
It’s overdue, TBH. The doctor didn’t seem terribly concerned, just wanted to keep an eye on things.
I’m glad you’ve taken the plunge and will follow up. I go at least once a year to have various moles looked at. I’ve had a number removed over the years when they became worrisome though not urgent. Getting regular skin checks is a good habit! Plus the added benefit of the opportunity to ask more frivolous skin questions and get actual expert guidance instead of “hope in a bottle.”
La Liturgie des Heures yesterday and Cuir Ottoman today- working on consciously using my decants. Thankfully I think I turned a corner with the cold- yay!
Glad to hear that you are feeling better! ?
Good choices! You smell great.
In Bellodgia Extrait from a bottle that was basically free at an estate sale last January. I thought it was off but I just resurrected it today – a powerhouse!
Getting my vaccine today as an allied healthcare worker. Feeling very grateful.
Yay for getting vaccinated today!
It was such a moving experience – gratitude for all of those that created the vaccine and all that it took to get it to us and administer it and sadness for all of those who weren’t able to get it in time.
Hurray on both counts — vaccine and vintage Bellodgia!
I’m joining in the vaccine frustration because Mom was scheduled for a clinic tomorrow (her whole place) and it got canceled today, but no one knows why! It’s so aggravating!
I’m very interested in synaesthesia. I don’t have it but one of my colleagues does; to him, all numbers and letters have colors. Fascinating. Happens a lot with musical notes too. I do associate certain perfumes with colors, as we all probably do. Some are definitely green or red. Gray is harder! I thought of Elephant, but that one is definitely green! Today I wore the one scent I have that I’m sure is gray: SL l’Orpheline. A calm gray scent with incense and musk. Very beautiful.
Do you people who are tea-drinkers always make your tea in a pot? Loose leaf or bags? Just curious.
I’m going to make a big pot of lentil soup with kale and other nice things tonight! Including at least one jalapeño!
Re: tea — it depends. I have both bagged and loose teas. If I am feeling ambitious, I’ll make a whole pot. Most of the time, though, I use a single bag for one mug of tea.
Sorry to hear about your mom’s vax clinic getting cancelled.
Sorry about your mom not able to get the vaccine today. Hopefully they will reschedule very soon.
Regarding tea (green, black, oolong): I usually make it in a cup or a pot (especially if I’m home) and I use loose leaf. At work I will use bags but I make sure they’re filled with loose leaf as well.
For herbal tea I use mostly bags.
My sister gave me a clear glass teapot for Christmas and a tea light stand for it. I use it a couple of times a week since the process is calming. Other days, I zap water in the microwave and use either teabags or loose leaf tea in an infuser. I’m all over the map!
I hope your mom gets vaccinated soon! That is troubling.
I make my morning loose leaf black tea in a pot because i make several cups at once, and ditto with herbal tea at night. But in between I do individual cups. Green tea & oolong, I always make in individual cups.
I’ve been doing inventory at work for the last 2 days, but now it’s my Friday! I accidentally wore Moulin rouge today. I thought I had grabbed Dior Addict (decants) I’m pretty sure this is the second time I’ve done this too! I smelled great anyway ?
Ugh, inventory. But you were happy with your perfumes while doing that!
Inventory time is tedious, I remember it well. Glad it’s over and happy Fri-yay!
So what are gray scents? Inquiring minds want to know!
Yellow seems easier!
