Hump Day and International Translation Day. Plus, it’s the last day in September — don’t forget your rabbits tomorrow (and Donatella will be dropping by). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Brin de Réglisse, which smells like a good fit with the song although I will need a latte before I can tell you why.
Reminder: on 10/2, our subject is On the back roads by the rivers of my memory...do what you like with the lyric from the 1968 song Gentle on My Mind. Suggested by Mossyberry.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

VCA Bois d’ Iris.
I finally(!) got an email from Ticketmaster about the concert my daughter and I were supposed to go to in May. It has been rescheduled for October of 2021. That will be almost two full years from when I bought the tickets. I guess good things come to those who wait…? Hopefully my daughter is still a Tame Impala fan in another year, lol.
Interesting! And yes, hope so…
delayed twins! You smell good and I wore that yesterday.
I’m a Tame Impala fan. I’ll go! And you smell great.
Same here with the rescheduling. My sisters and I were supposed to go on a Tauck tour that included going to Oberammergau in Germany for the Passion Play which happens every 10 years. The bad news is it was rescheduled to 2022; the good news is it was not rescheduled to 2030 ?
LOL!
That’s the spirit, Hajusuuri! 😀
Fingers crossed!
This must be international rescheduling day. I got a notice from Evenko that my Ludovico Einaudi concert from May has been officially cancelled and will be refunded. They are rescheduling for April 2021 but I will be living across the country when that happens so I won’t be repurchasing.
Definitely a special day we’ll need: IRD!!
You smell soooo good!
Comparing Le Lion ? and 31 RC
French press coffee
Toast with butter
I don’t know who to root for! ha. You smell heavenly that’s for sure.
They are both super; can’t pick one!
You smell great!
Oh, boy! I wish you were within smelling distance :-).
My toast didn’t smell that great.. 😉
Also I haven’t seen you on here in a bit! waving hello
Half twins!
In JM Orange Bitters and feeling good after my 6:30 am fitness class. I’m turning into a morning person
Looking forward to the orange bitters time of year. For me it’s impossible in the warmer months but really great during the cold season.
I love it! Such a great warm spiced orange. This has been the year of the orange note for me!
I am turning into a person who wakes up early, but so far have not really turned into a morning person.
??
Same here – not even sure why I set an alarm anymore. 6 a.m., just like clockwork … whether I slept soundly or was awake half the night. And not fully functional until I’ve had coffee. 🙂
Ha! Now that’s a distinction with a difference
This is me. Awake early, but not by choice. Still not functional until 10am.
Ha! Saaaame!
Wow, Fitness before daybreak. You are a hero….
Why thank you tannina
Hi all!
Robin, you smell fantastic!
I’m in vintage Byzance today, power 80’s woody floral. Just enough edge to the woods in the base so that it isn’t wood pudding. I’m in heaven.
This is probably my most hoarded perfume. I find myself with more than a handful of bottles, mostly because I find them for nearly free (and much less than “perfume free”). I have a hard time saying no….
Stay safe and well everyone!
It’s good to have a lifetime supply of a favorite 🙂
I think at this point all my bottles are a lifetime supply. I’m still working on the 15ml of patchouli 24 I bought in 2016. ?
Yeah, I know that story!
I loved Byzance, and wore it daily back in the … er, late 80s, or maybe early 90s. Well before falling down the rabbit hole, at any rate.
It’s glorious! So far I have the EdT and EdP. Always looking for the parfum to add.
I looove Byzance and have several hoarded bottles as well, including the parfum and a spray deodorant that smells great. I’ve gotten a couple as free giveaways too.
I have some of the body lotion but I’m honestly not sure if I took it when I moved. I haven’t seen it in any case. I bought it as part of a gift set; it was only $40 and the bottle was 100ml! A crazy score. I really want to try the parfum one day. No the EDT & EDP are so similar that I wonder how different the parfum is. One of the reasons I haven’t pounced on it.
It sounds wonderful; hasn’t shown up in my life yet, but now I will grab for sure if I see it in the wild…
I highly suggest it. It is very unique to me, and one of the few tuberose I love.
Tabac Rouge. Perfect for this cold and rainy day.
Sorry for the cold & rain!
I‘m in Parfums de Nicolaï Sacrebleu. Sooo tired today after a night of not great sleep. Even thinking is difficult!
Oooh, sorry…hope you get a good sleep tonight!
Oh I can empathise, maybe herbal tea tonight and going to bed early?
yes – verveine is my herbal of choice
I love Sacre Bleu, you smell wonderful, despite being tired. 🙂
Hate those days, ka_rina :(. I am sure you “powered through” with honor!
Sampling Oudh Orange Flower and Nawab of Oudh, figuring that neither will be overly heavy on the oud. If perchance I’m wrong, I’m wfh, the windows are open and there’s a strong breeze.
Hope everyone has a peaceful day!
How was your wafting today?
Cloudy, windy and chilly morning.
Wearing Jo Malone Bitter Orange & Chocolate and drinking a cup of salted caramel hot cocoa. Everything feels comfy!
Happy Wednesday! ☕
Bitter Orange and Chocolate? Is that a flanker to Orange Bitters?
It was a 2013 limited edition. It smells like orange rinds dipped in dark chocolate. Very yummy and one of my favorite JM.
That does sound yummy although I tend to shy away from chocolate notes in perfume. They turn too dusty on my skin
The chocolate note is very pronounced here. But I think it is worth to try it if you have a chance.
Oh goodness that sounds great!
???
Oh, salted caramel cocoa sounds delicious!
It is! Passing you some! ☕
Thank you! I could use an afternoon pick me up!
Reminds me that I have a recipe for home made salted caramels that is SUPER easy!
Not that I ‘need’ any sweets right now… Yesterday’s visit to the doctor’s included a meet-and-greet with her scale.
🙁
I love sea salt caramels. I can easily eat a bag in one day, so that’s why I have to stay away from them as much as I can! ?
This sounds great (I didn’t like Orange Bitters, but I think the chocolate + orange sounds perfect). Doesn’t seem to be available anymore.
It was discontinued long time ago. I hope they bring it back some day.
Ooh, I have salted caramel hot cocoa mix too, so yummy! Your perfume sounds great.
Hot cocoa twin! It is indeed yummy! ☕☕
Chocolate covered orange peel sounds yummy!
It is!
Just got out of physical therapy for the day, and I put on some Assam of India from my desk drawer.
Smelling wonderful.
Good morning Y’all,
Smelling warm and huggable in Guerlain Eau de Cashmere…..
That sounds lovely.
It was a 2013 limited edition. It smells like orange rinds dipped in dark chocolate. Very yummy and one of my favorite JM.
Hopefully someday they will bring it back!
Fingers crossed! ?
Good Morning everyone! Happy Hump day. 🙂
My SOTD is Dior’s Addict (old version). Flowers, Bourbon vanilla, sandalwood, and Tonka. I don’t know what Night Queen Flower is supposed to smell like but I think it’s part of the magnificent opening that I adore…
Physician’s and dentist appointment went well, received my flu shot and knocked a few other items off of my to-do list.
Thankfully, my physician agrees that I shouldn’t be in a room full of strangers at this time, so I have a medical exemption from duty. I normally don’t mind at all, I like fulfilling my service, but now’s not the time.
Headed out for a four mile walk, see everyone later!
I hope the universe can sniff how wonderful you smell ST! Happy walk.
That’s great! I’m happy for you being able to avoid the risk.
Me too Sistine! 😀
Good for you for knocking down that “To Do” list a bit! Also, pleased to hear that you won’t have to worry about jury duty.
Do any of you ever get a perfume sign from “above”? I was thinking about wanting to get Chanel 1957 and stepped into an office elevator that smelled like it….
I only wish the elevator also contained 175 euro’s to make it happen.?
I wish that $200 showed up in my bank account for Cormandel, but I am half way to getting a bottle.
Wouldn’t that be marvelous? Ahhh, if only.
Speaking of elevators, arriving the dentist’s office yesterday, whoever was in an elevator before us smelled marvelous!
This would be a perfumath miracle ?
LOL!
It’s totally a sign!
its a sign!
My sample of Serge Lutens Fils de Joie arrived yesterday.
It opens similarly to Sarassins for those who love that classic.
For me it is still too sweet, grape juice like. It quiets down and improves as the sweetness leaves. It becomes lightly barely indolic but with a pleasant dry down. I will try it again in cooler weather. Longevity remains on my arm overnight but not a loud scent at all.
I really liked it, Serge does jasmine well (and I love sweet).
I do love the way SL does jasmine. It’s a difficult note for me and I love it when it works!
So Fils de Joie is lighter than Sarrasins?
Woke up in Shiseido Feminite du Bois. I hadn’t worn Feminite du Bois in forever and loved every single second of it. Wearing Diorling EDT but looks like it’s been discontinued.
You smell very elegant, Diorling is one of my favorite leathers (-I like ‘baby’ leathers). I think it’s discontined too.
I hate it when things get discontinued. It’s a great fall scemt.
Oh, I adore Shiseido’s FdB, you smell Amazing! 🙂
Bois d’Ombrie, Eau d’Italie, for a regular ol’ Wednesday. Well, pandemic regular, anyway.
Pandemic regular — good phrase!
L’Homme Prada for me today.
Now off to a workout sesh 🙂
You smelled great lucasai! Hope it was a good workout.
I’m in CdG Sugi today, and enjoying the heck out of it.
Oh, I love Sugi! You smell great.
That’s a good one
BDK Rouge Smoking which is cherry, vanilla, tobacco-y goodness to my nose.
Question for those w/ a yearly perfume budget…do you roll any unspent remainder to the next year if you don’t spend it all? or do you lose it like an FSA? 😉 3 months left to 2020…hard to believe…
So I don’t have a budget but you can now carry over FSA …
Just googled and see that now too…good intel!
Carry it over for sure!
That’s what I thought. 😉
I don’t have a budget, but if I still have money in December, I usually have a blowout. 🙂
+1??????
Budget? What is this thing of which you speak? 😉
???
Cherry-vanilla-tobacco could be really good. I have a budget, but it has certain fungible elements, like “found it at a thrift store,” “less than $5,” or “I was with my sister, the antique mall maven.” 🙂
I *should* have a budget, but don’t. Instead, I try to minimize expenses and not go on crazy perfume buying binges.
Same.
And sometimes the crazy perfume buying binges happen anyway… ?
I never think about aa budget until it’s too late! Luckily I always have enough to pay all my bills on time!
Armani Rose d Arabie from I sample I packed for the holiday. Very nice, but I liked Rose de Petra more.
Today we did another walk along the Canal, this time luckily in nice weather. We even got to sit outside on our garden with a glass of Ricard and a book, plus cuddling the neighbors kitty… Now preparing for some mussels with Cremant for dinner.
Oh how lovely you smell! And what a nice day!
2nd that!
Bottega. Veneta. A gorgeous scent for a cool fall say.
A top 10 favourite! You smell great.
For sure, a great fall scent.
Love BV!
Wearing 2 small sprays of PHI Une Rose today. I need to finish up my sample spray and start using my adorable mini as someone here mentioned they can evaporate. I forget how good this one is!
That one is fabulous, I have a 15ml travel spray. Got it back when Andy still has the 3 travel spray set going on.
Misia today in order to impersonate a grown up. Also, it smells amazing!
Thanks for the tip about North and South yesterday. I will read it this weekend.. I am really interested in the subject as my grandmother began work in a mill in Manchester when she was 14 and was completely deaf as a result.
Kanuka, I missed the post yesterday about North and South, and it sounds like you’re talking about the book, but I can also recommend the TV version with Daniela Denby-Ashe and Richard Armitage.
2nd that!
Thanks very much. I will definitely watch it
Found it and enjoying it, thanks again
House twins…
Wednesday!
1) Am in Amelie Mae- a fruity, nutty, sweet rose that actually suits this day- cool in the morning, hot in the afternoon.
2) Will be doing some garden clean up later on today. The recent rains & wind has made everything look wild, and things that needed to be pulled have now become straggly. Plus I want to try again with bulbs!
I love Amelie Mae! I need to unpack mine – it’s perfect for autumn.
Have a great time in your garden!
Bois d’Arménie on a cool rainy day.
I started my day burning papier d’Arménie…not quite the same, though. 😀
Such a beautiful scent. I wish I had some. And I also wish I had a cool rainy day (out in California, we are still in the middle of the extreme fire season).
Indochine today. Thunked a sample, wish I had more haha. Welp, at least it’s hump day, friends.
I do love Indochine, it’s such a pretty scent. And it’s quite the shapeshifter!
A dark October dawn, still a touch of snow on the hills but at least everywhere is green and vibrant. Off to see the rabbit, rabbit, rabbit in the cemetery. The laurel hedge smells lovely, no holly flowers yet.
Wearing Sydney Rock Pool
You rabbited on the sly there.
Good job on the rabbit, I always forget! 🙂
We saw 2 this afternoon just walking around the neighborhood. Thought I saw a 3rd in our yard, but no, that was yet another groundhog, off to eat our veg garden 🙂
Tauer Le Maroc pour Elle for me today. It’s random old sample week — beyond the ones drying up, I have a bunch of very old ones like this where water drops or leaks have blurred the label over the years and you can only just tell what it says. This one’s nice but not really me, which is likely why the sample’s been sitting so long. (I’m not a patchouli person, and I get a lot of patchouli on the opening.) Fortunately it’s not lingering, so I’ll go up and dive into another sample mid-day.
It’s Wednesday and I am taking most of Friday off. Something to look forward to! Happy hump day!
It’s very gratifying to use up old samples! Consider taking notes about what you think of them because you always think you’ll remember what you thought of them later but it’s easy to forget….
SOTD Aramis Devin. Being an EL fangirl, I picked it up at TJX to see how it compared to Aliage. I did not care for something in Aliage, but Devin smells wonderful to me, and I can’t really put it on the masculine or feminine shelf, after this light spritzing. Clove, carnation, moss, and sandalwood appear together in many of my favorite perfumes. Devin also has a nice not too sweet, not too dry patchouli.
Sounds nice:)
I always liked Devin!
The late winter blast is passing, it’s a clear sunny morning, but still chilly. I’m thinking of Le Temps d’Une Fête in anticipation of warmer weather. I can see the first few flowers on a blossom tree nearby. I’ve been watching it grow for years – it’s self-sown and always flowers later than other trees, so every year there is an anxious wait 🙂
Thank you for the kind thoughts about our cat over the weekend. Losing a pet is not like losing a person, but Missy had been part of our household for 18 years, so she leaves a big gap.
18 years is a very long time Gaynor, it must be a very hard adjustment. Hugs to you…
Finished off a sample of Soivohle Green Oakmoss. I think you’ll continue to see me posting about finishing off samples and decants for the foreseeable future. It’s quite the endeavor to try and pare down my collection. I think soon I may need to resort to selling on eBay or the Facebook perfume groups, as I have several bottles that I’ve listed here for swap the last few swap meets with no interested parties. We’ll see when I have energy for selling. I think I’ll have to do it 5 items at a time so I don’t get overwhelmed. In the spirit of paring down…
FREEBIE OFFER TO REGULAR NSTers:
I have an old bottle of Lush Icon that leaked when I got it many years ago. So I don’t want to send the bottle to anyone else. Based on the label, I think the bottle is from 2005. Looks like this bottle but Icon: https://images.app.goo.gl/AAS3U3f988nwKzKT7
I will split the remaining perfume into two decants (probably 5ml each) and send to two people in the US. Please call dibs here and then email me via gmail at my NST username.
Oh, and I’ve still got a MJ Daisy travel spray available in the freebie meet. ?
Dibs and thanks!
You got it! Will email you back tomorrow morning. ?
What did you think of the Green Oakmoss?
I really like it. I’ve had this sample for years and hoarded it until I bought a mini bottle during one of her sales a couple years ago. So I will move on to using my mini now. Have you tried it? It’s a slightly sweet earthy mossy slightly resinous perfume you my nose. It does wear like an EDT.
I have the odd challenge of trying to find a perfume that helps counteract the smoke in the air from the California fires because once again the air quality is poor. I find the herbal fragrances are helpful and having been wearing the heck out of A Taste of Heaven because lavender helps. But today I turned to vintage Eau de Caron, an EdT version of Caron Alpona, with its beautiful alpine herbs and citrus. It’s also a little sweet and powdery–sounds like a hot mess but somehow it works and is gorgeous–so I find it comforting as well. It’s not a perfume that anyone talks about except my one friend who introduced me to it, but I love it.
Do you have any of the Sonoma Scent Studios on hand? There is something in the base of those that is a bit campfire-smoky on me, and maybe one of those would blend and render the smoke in the air somehow prettier, or at least more bearable? Just a thought.
I feel so horrible for everyone effected by these fires. And now Napa valley – AGAIN! And Sonoma! it’s all so terribly sad. They say that the smoke has clouded the atmosphere badly for 2 weeks and now may kill virtually all the fruit on the vines in the general area. Unimaginable.
In Tiempe Passate (Antonia’s Flowers) today. This should have been my pick for the CP on quiet/lost loves (I haven’t cited that correctly, I know). I haven’t worn it in years and at first spritz this morning thought it had turned. Nope. It’s still beautiful, I still love it, and am still sad that it (and Antonia’s Flowers) is probably never coming back.
Such a beauty, that one! It is a shame the brand is gone.
Song of the day: https://youtu.be/rdpBZ5_b48g
Kleenex optional.
RIP Helen Reddy.
A beautiful weather day here, after a late night of heavy rain and some strong wind.
SOTD = ELdO Fat Electrician. My sample is barely hanging on, but still around. Why does that last little bit seem to take more effort to use up? ?
Oh wow, I loved Helen Reddy. Thank you for mentioning her.
You’re welcome.
And RIP Mac Davis, as well.
I just saw that.
That showed up in my news feed earlier this evening.
Sorry Jalapeno, your song of the day makes me too sad to listen to.
I love Helen Reddy. My mom was a huge fan.
https://youtu.be/afsp7MU-nTI
There’s a reason I included the Kleenex alert… ? No need to apologize.
I saw the alert but thought I was tough enough until I clicked, lol.
That Helen Reddy song is a sad one for me, so we traded songs today. ?
It’s a sad song for me too, but a different kind of sad.
Thanks for sharing the song.
I was surprised at how cool it was especially since my brain thought we were supposed to have one more day of swamplandia weather but it seems last night’s torrential rains actually cooled things off. We had a power outage and I only knew because I woke up at 3am with light coming from the other bedroom (smart light became stupid) and my alarm clock flashing.
You’re welcome.
No power outage for me the other night. I had to chuckle ruefully at your mention about the smart light getting stupid.
I guess I’m in a perfume slump. Not even wearing anything today, but I wanted to come here for the company. I just don’t feel like putting on anything in my collection, too sweet, too heavy, too inky, too spicy, too this too that. Hope this passes. Might be ennui from the political situation. I did get a fabulous co-op order today with gorgeous crimini mushrooms and cherry tomatoes and peppers and calabaza squashes and the most beautiful micro-greens with tiny edible flowers. The mix tastes amazing. That’s what I would like to smell like today. Floral, tangy, spicy. All blended together.
I’ve had slumps like that … I bet most of us have at one time or another. World events are definitely wearing, to say the least, and all that anxiety makes decision-making difficult. Your co-op order sounds delish!
That mix sounds great – note to self to get some good fresh greens this week.
I like to come here for the company too.
I’ve had some days recently where I didn’t want to wear perfume, either.
Chiming in quite late today, but nonetheless smelling good in Absolute Aphrodisiac.
It’s also a bit too late for our apple discussion, but this Rare and Beautiful Apples article came across my monitor today:
https://getpocket.com/explore/item/around-the-world-in-rare-and-beautiful-apples?utm_source=pocket-newtab
Better a little late than never! ??
I’m late because the day was stupid.
My sotd is Le Lion, put on early this morning. I can still faintly smell it.
My brother and I agree that there has been a lot of stupid in the air lately. It’s a PITA.
How do you like it?
I like it alot! Surprising because I normally don’t go for smokey notes. Le Lion just smells really sexy to me though.
Wearing Oriental Lumpur this late evening.
It is late for you. I hope you are able to get some sleep??
How nice of you to notice, Lillyjo – yes, trouble falling asleep.
I’d never heard of that perfume before you mentioned it.
Les Néreides is a good house, OL has all the good spices and none of the ones I hate like cumin.
SOTE: Bengale Rouge by Papillion. I really love this one. Top 5.
Mmmm you smell wonderful!
Thanks, I could not believe that it lasted all afternoon and post a 20 mile bike ride! The dry down and persistence is pretty impressive.
So late to the party but wanted to share…
SOTD = Goldfield and Banks Bohemian Lime
Lime, vetiver, sandalwood ?

I got the package for Jessica’s talk next week on Making Scents of Studio 54. It’s in mail quarantine right now. I will report back once I open it!
Looking forward to hearing about your Studio 54 goodies. I’m curious as to what’s inside.
OH that’s a fabulous choice.
What a lovely perfume, full bottle worthy.
I heard his interview on a podcast awhile back, and found Dmitri Weber to be very fascinating. There were 2 that I really was drawn to. I’ll have to find the other one for you.
I also received mine: opened it because I had to know if all was in good shape, which it is, but I defer to Hajusuuri for “the big reveal.” 😉
Excited to find out!
Chanel 1957
