Happy Soft Spot Friday! Our community project for today: wear a perfume that you may or may not wear often, and may or may not really love, but that remains dear to you for some other reason. Thanks go to Kanuka for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I am in Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu, which I prize past its worth because it reminds me of Southern California beaches. It is making me especially wistful this morning because it is unusually chilly in my house for a mid-September day.
Reminder: TBA, again! I am sorry I am so behind lately; I will try to get the Friday projects updated this weekend.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hi all!
Sadly up earlier than normal today. Had to go to a doctor’s appointment. I’m in Chanel No 18 which works for my appointment as well as the pole. My mother gave me this bottle for my birthday last December and I treasure every spray. Of course I had a heavy hand in suggesting this perfume as my gift. ?
Stay safe all!
Poll*
A little bit of heavy hand never hurts 🙂
Hope you get to sleep in tomorrow!
Hope your health is ok!
Sweet story and good luck at your appointment.
I’m lacing up my Big Boots and heading out into the still-smoldering woods today to do some ecological assessment work. It’ll be a day of 4WD trucks, hard hats, chainsaws, firefighter moustaches, *and* the Big Boots, so I’m countering the manliness of it all in Galop — I’m reasonably certain it’s what Helen was wearing on that fateful evening with Paris. Doesn’t qualify for the CP, though, since it’s one I love with open-hearted abandon.
Good luck out there Isabella!
Your job sounds interesting/meaningful and hands-on – I’m probably romanticizing it big time (also don’t really know what you do), but I’m weirdly envious! I hope you have a good, safe day!
Yeah, this is my response to her description, too! I used to work for a field ecologist, though, so I have some specific nostalgia kicking in!
I’m with you on that. Although I’m sure with all of the necessary gear and current environment, it won’t be easy going or comfortable, there’s something very purposeful about the day’s work that sounds quite gratifying.
Good luck and take care!
I’m glad you’re wearing a true love. That’s always a good day!
Be safe and be well today!
Good luck!
Allure for the CP
My yesterday scent! So so good.
I have soft spot for that one too. My (then) teenaged son found a huge bottle in a thrift shop while he was on holiday one time, and had the good sense to buy it for me although he didn’t know if I would like it. I don’t love it; it’s too sweet for me really, but I treasure it all the same.
I wish I had some of that! My mom’s signature scent! It smells so good on her (and you too I’m sure!)!
Not doing the CP, but I’m happy today in my first experience of Kyoto, from a decant I received this week. Next up is Avignon. I have to buy decants of the others in the incense series.
You smell wonderful!
Kyoto is so good, you smell great!
Yum.
Love Kyoto – you smell wonderful.
Ooh, Kyoto is so nice.
I still haven’t tried Kyoto but I do love Avignon!
Wearing Donna Karan Black Cashmere today which is a long time love just perfect for a chilly day, not doing the CP.
Right there with you.. love this one.
I could have worn that one today, too. Love the little bean bottle. You smell lovely!
Exhaustief but all my Thomas are insider my apartment, mostly still in boxes. Scent is HdP 1740. Because I love it
Right this awful phone ??
…. Exhausted but most of my stuff is inside…
Sounds like Thomas is a disruptive houseguest!
?
Exceedingly so ??
BLOODY Thomas! Plural Thomas ??
AutoCorrect is awful and hilarious.
You smell good though.
Thanks, it’s nice seeing you on here. I love this HdP, the long luxurious drydown is to die for.
My nephew is called Thomas but he isn’t here. Do that made it even more confusing
A perfect storm of autocorrect confusion.
I love that scent also!
Yay for most stuff being inside! Thomas you can deal with later.
?
He is actually a really lovely boy, or man , my nephew that is.
I’m glad your move went smoothly! Thomas is my husband. Why is he in your apartment?
LOL!
I haven’t got a clue ?
All your Thomas are belong to us?
Night time in Sydney.
For my Friday Community Project
Cartier II L’Heure Convoitée. It is a great love of mine. Bought at the Cartier in Prague on Jin and my first holiday together. It’s arctic powderiness blended so well with the cold snowy winter adventure. Every time I spritz it takes me back to the mad joyful crazy new love and discovering how easily and happily we travel together.
Portia xx
Lovely scent memory.☺️
Thanks. I’m smiling as I huff.
Ditto!
That all sounds wonderful. Great memory.
Thanks. Memories are getting me through C19. It’s almost as good as getting out of town.
Imagining you two in a troika…
We never did do that AnnieA. Hopefully one day.
Lovely scent that I don’t see mentioned often
Hey thegoddessrena!
Yeah, it’s a beauty. I think the whole series is being Dcd now, it’s a shame.
Prague was my honeymoon — so long ago — so you just brought me nice memories too 🙂
Heya Robin,
What a gorgeous city to have your honeymoon.
We love Prague and had it on the November itinerary to take Jin’s parents this year. Hopefully next year.
Portia xx
that description sounds lovely! The Cartier hours are on my list to try.
You better get to them quick. They’re disappearing quickly.
Prague looks so beautiful! I hope I can go explore there someday!
It has also stayed one of the most affordable European destinations. It’s perfect as a wandering holiday too. Most things are in a pretty small area.
This made me sniffle. What a great association!!!
Hugs for sniffles.
That sounds wonderful!
Jalapeno, it is, it was.
I’m in Narciso White Cube.
Another gorgeous, sunny morning here, but even crisper than yesterday. I’m supposed to meet a friend later for coffee/tea. Hoping the sun warms it up enough that we can sit outside. Trying to soak in as many rays as possible before the days become so short.?
Door County is still beautiful, by the way. Boy, it was busy when we arrived on Labor Day weekend. Then it got nicely quiet…still visitors, just people without kids. And fewer young adults.
Oh I’m glad it was beautiful! Such a bummer you didn’t have the best weather, maybe next time.? Lake Michigan really is something. When we lived on the northshore of Milwaukee we could walk over to the lake which I sometimes miss, it does mess with the weather though, so I don’t miss that. There was a saying in Milwaukee “cooler by the lake” which is great in the heat of summer but not in spring or fall.
There’s such a huge difference between the Green Bay side of the Peninsula from the Lake Michigan side. Both are beautiful. Cave Point, on the Lake, was stunning…but water was much more wild.
I just read a NYTimes article on the moose of Isle Royale. It sounds like an amazingly beautiful area!
How is the white cube? I love that packaging but haven’t smelled the juice.
Portia x
I love White Cube! I didn’t smell it when it first came out and then when I finally did, I wondered how I could have missed it. Bought a bottle immediately. I describe it as marshmallow fluff with a bit of wood shavings. Longevity is great.
Ohh, marshmallow fluff with wood shavings? That sounds great!
It really is! Definitely worth a sniff. Not your average department store perfume imho. Even Luca Turin gave it 5 stars.
White cube is one of my soft spots, but I’m all out! Good pick.
Thanks! You need some more!?
They really should rename it Narciso White Cube – lol
They really should! We should start a petition.?
Totally agree.
As long as you and lillyjo keep having nice weather, there’s a pretty good chance that I will, too. ???
Yep!?Just a little cool, but supposed to be back into the 70’s next week.?
Just checked in at our hotel in, Nancy, now up to explore some of the Art Deco facades of the city. I am wearing What I did on my holidays, because it my be one of the last summer days, and it is a fun scent.
Tomorrow we will continue to Burgundy.
Enjoy! I miss traveling to far away places.
Nice, glad you have started on your trip! Enjoy the day.
Have fun!
Safe travels!
Friday thank goodness. Long week. I think we will see a bit of sun today the air is clearing of smoke, bit my eyes are gritty and swollen.
Interviewing for two new job possibilities. I didn’t get furloughed but am deeply unhappy with being underutilized. Time is linear and I reached a point a few years back where no one gets to waste my time. Now if I choose to while away a day, that’s on me.
Post shower maybe some Chergui. Always a soft spot.
Hope you find something wonderful soon. Being underutilized is very hard and a good sign it’s time to step out and explore what’s next.
Good luck apsara!
good luck with the interviews – I hope those jobs turn out to be more what you are looking for!
Good luck! ?
Good luck! I hope your eyes feel better soon.
Good luck with your upcoming interviews! And I hope that your eyes feel better… that gritty feeling is the worst. ???
Good luck!
Henri Bendel Pink Grapefruit & Vetiver from a time when this store had a good fragrance department. And great cashmere sweaters. It’s long discontinued, and I got this bottle in Los Angeles on a trip to the Breeder’s Cup not long after getting married. Wow. That makes it almost 23 years old.
It’s a really good summer scent, so a little late in the season. Crisp grapefruit…maybe with a bit of sprinkled sugar. I don’t get a lot of vetiver..it just adds some depth..
Whoa! I take that back. Not the Breeder’s Cup trip. Much later. I get confused on L.A. travel. Probably the trip for my 10th anniversary to Disneyland.
RIP Henri Bendel, along with all the other great fragrance stores we have lost.
Many many years ago I bought my white (for my mother), mini (for me) wedding dress at Henri Bendel in Chicago. It was such a beautiful store. We had a tiny wedding, but my mother insisted on 1) a priest; 2) a white dress; 3) flowers; and 4) a cake. Since we were doing the entire thing for her, I complied. Ha.
I love your wedding story! ❤️
That sounds great!
Is Henri Bendel still a store? The name seems steeped in antiquity.
No. It sadly went downhill in an odd way that made it rather sad…then finally closed some years ago.
Wore vintage L’heure Bleue this morning. But I when I showered I used Amouage Memoir bath stuff. Started to switch over to the heavier bath stuff, especially the lotions.
How deliciously decadent does it feel to use the Amouge Bath & Body? That huge pump pack! MMMMMM
Portia xx
I love the Amouage body stuff. If they come out with an Ubar bath set…
No CP points this time because I’m wearing MFK L’Homme a la Rose.
I’ve been curious about that one. How does it compare to the original a la Rose, if you don’t mind?
Dzing! for the CP today and for the circus of life. I don’t completely love it, but it’s all kinds of fun. I don’t wear it often and I only have a tiny bit left in the bottle so I will enjoy it, but not replace it.
the circus of life. It is indeed. You smell great and I love Dzing.
I like this a lot, you smell really good
You smell fabulous.
Joining you in the circus of life. Too many monkeys going crazy today when it’s a) definitely not my circus and b) not my monkeys!
I can’t wait for 5pm! I made a batch of grilled shrimp, avocados are ripe, and will throw together a quick salad of asparagus, tomatoes, avocadoes, mixed greens, shrimp, and roasted corn for supper. 😀
I want your dinner!
“The circus of life”…love it!
Good morning Y’all, and I couldn’t be happier that it’s FriYAY FriYAY FriYAY! It’s been a long week! Tomorrow my oldest and I are going into Atlanta to go perfume sniffin’, so looking forward to that….She has been saving her money for a bottle of Jo Malone Poppy and Barley. (It smells really great on her!)
My soft spot perfume is Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream. It’s not my ultimate favorite, but it’s good and I’m wearing it today. My daughter bought it for my Valentines gift back in 2014 or 2015? She was very young and used a gift card of her own, and figured out how to order online. For that reason it’s always out in my room and it makes me smile. The last time I wore it before today was 2017! Yikes…I need to wear it more often for sure….
Love this memory.
Have fun shopping & sniffing!
Enjoy Atlanta’s perfume scene!
Have fun! Sweet story.
Happy shopping!
I hope you have a great sniffing trip. Your daughter sounds so sweet.
That’s a very sweet memory. Have a great time on you mother daughter sniffa!
Cute! Hope that the shopping expedition went well!
Love it! Have fun!
I was going to wear Gap Heaven because it was my first perfume, but since the modern version is a bit screechy, I opted for something I really do love: Musc Ravageur.
You smell great!
My soft spot perfume is LouLou. I think I wore it when I got married in 1987, and then for a few years after, before I switched to Casmir. LouLou was the perfume that made me realize about flankers, because my mother, knowing that I wore LouLou, bought me LouLou Blue for Christmas, not realizing it wasn’t the same scent nor that I had moved on to Casmir. One spray this morning is plenty. It’s still pretty but the style is not me anymore. I like big perfumes but not “heavy” ones these days.
Woke up to drizzle. Going for a walk later and might not come back until I can’t walk any more and have to take a cab home. I need to banish this cabin fever!
I heard LouLou described by a Brit as “lairy”, which seems to translate roughly as “bombastic man-trap”.
That sounds about right!
wow! 🙂 I definitely want to use that adverb today somewhere, somehow.
adjective. Yikes.
LAIRY! Adding it to my vernacular
Love this story.
I’ve not been to the beach once this summer. So very sad and maybe we’ll have a heat wave (I know, long shot) in the coming weeks AND I’ll be in the mood to trek out to Coney Is. which is my closest beach.
Don’t think it’s happening but it’s a lovely thought.
SOTD: Marni EDP; too bad they discontinued this one as it’s such a great spice-laced rose.. good for fall!
The beach is beautiful in the winter! I love just sitting in the car, bundled up with the windows slightly cracked. The waves can be heard and the salt air sniffed. Occassionally, heat up the car, if I want to stay longer ?, but I live really close to the beach.
And I count my Blessings. Just started taking my child/dog? to the beach the day after Labor day. She’ll wear her little coat, too.
Sorry you haven’t been to the beach. I’ve been to the beach parking lot, because they don’t allow dogs. And I am that person who brings there dog everywhere.
Maybe, try in the winter?
Oh, yes! I completely agree, the winter is a wonderful time to be at the beach. Bundle up with a sweater and warm hat and take a long walk along the shore. I love it!
I am basically *at* the beach and I haven’t been much this summer. Some, but not like I normally would.
The Marni bottle is so freaking cute!
I hope you can find a way to get to the beach before the weather gets too cold. ?
I think it’s been over a year since I’ve been “down the Shore”. And it’s not that far of a drive, either. I prefer going off season, anyway.
I wanted that Marni so bad. I couldn’t find it in OZ and I missed grabbing it on travels. GRRR. Oh well, can’t have everything.
In Smell Bent Bollywood or Bust. Really, too sultry a day for it, but I sprayed lightly. Very p-leasant if not on the top of my roster. Good for sunny, cool days.
I love that name!
Smell Bent makes really interesting perfumes. I think there is a Bollywood or Bust in a sample set from a while ago. Thanks for the reminder.
SOTD = A Lab On Fire What We Do In Paris is Secret
I remember shortening the name to WWDIPIS and thinking that it sounded dirty. Anyway, I’m on CP! Every time I see it, I remember that it was one of my first purchases from LuckyScent, I loved the packaging and loved (and still do) the perfume. I also feel equal parts guilty because I don’t wear it often enough.

In other news, I will be replacing my modem today and adding a plug in wireless booster to see if it improves Internet performance. I suspect it is our work network that slows down in the afternoon and not my set up. We’ll see. Wish me luck!
Oh, good luck with the tech changes!
My husband added wifi boosters to our apt. last week and what an amazing difference. Very pleased.
Thanks! We’ll see how it goes!
1) You smell lovely! I really like that cookie/sugar/musky fragrance!
2) I just redid my LAN at home with a booster and it is so much more efficient now.
Got the modem switched, with drama, to be described tomorrow. Now on to the booster after my walk!
Ooh. How is that perfume?
I’m in the same boat with the modem.
Frontier. ?
Sweet lightly floral heliotrope vanilla – it is very lovely.
Thanks. Sounds interesting.
Ugh. Mr. Jalapeno went and bought a new modem b/c he thought it would solve our Internet speed issues. Long story short, not so much. And my laptop really doesn’t get along with the new modem. I have more connection issues with it than I did with the previous one.
Do you have DSL?
You smell fabulous!
Thanks KellyC! (creepy spell check KNEW how to spell your name with the right capitalization)
I love that you get tech. It leaves me all at sea. Jin and our two BFFs are super tech-y though so I’m covered.
There was drama but I ended up getting things to work, and have the 2nd part to do a little bit later today. Unfortunately, customer service at Tech companies tend to be nameless and previous efforts to chase down a name ended up with no result. I hope for the sake of the person who initiated the drama gets help.
On CP today in Vivacious, which I love so much because of the name, I want to wear it whenever I need a little boost, like today…it is helping me get through a ridiculous set of Other People’s Problems that I got nominated to fix for some reason…I need to find a better gig here. 🙂 Happy Friday everyone, stay safe and well.
“Don’t set yourself on fire to keep other people warm.” 🙂
Very good line! Thanks…
I may need this saying as a tattoo…
You and me both, sistine.
Love that!
That needs to be on a T-shirt.
and a coffee cup and a bumper sticker.
So true.
I love the name and the idea of Vivacious, and then, alas, it doesn’t totally work for me. Oh well. I always want more violets!
Some of the other Hiram Green scents didn’t work for me, but this one is still smelling lovely after a 7:00 AM application- it is replacing Apres l’Ondee as my favorite violet perfume…what is your favorite violet?
Probably I Miss Violet? Hmmm. Thinking. I don’t have a lot of my perfume with me. That’s the violet I keep on hand at all times! On me Vivacious is more a rooty, almost clay like iris. I love iris but there is a particular version that doesn’t play well with me. Not bad, just not my favorite.
Hang in there!
Totally off project today, wearing Rihanna Rebelle from my blind buy package. Goes on with a very chemical vibe, calms down in a few minutes to a sweet cocoa/coffee blend, and then quickly starts getting very faint. It’s kind of like a Demeter cologne in that regard. But, because it comes in a big bottle for a little price, I guess one could reapply with abandon all day.
Cocoa/coffee blend sounds great though!
Wearing Paul Smith London for the project. It was the first perfume I purchased. I’m not very into it anymore, and I got rid of my full size bottle but I still have a mini because of my soft spot
WOW! The first bottle you EVER purchased is a big deal. Does it still smell good? Give you happy memories?
I forgot what the Friday project was and am wearing Mitsouko, a perfume I wear often :). Oh well. I’m also eating cherry tomatoes my coworker gave me from her garden and they make a great treat. They’re called Midnight Snack with a unique black/red spotted skin, and they have almost a sweet-smoky flavor like paprika.
Those tomatoes sound wonderful!
Oooooh, fresh from the garden tomatoes are SO good! ?
Those sound delish!
Groggy today as we had thunderbolts and lightning (very very frightening) at 3 a.m., and had some trouble getting back to sleep after it finally died down. My CP ‘fume is Prada L’Eau Ambree, acquired through a blind swap a while back with a lovely NSTer, so the soft spot is that the scent reminds me of NST itself. Love this space, love you all – thanks for being here. 🙂
I missed the storm somehow! Must have been tired, as Mr. S. reports I slept through quite a racket!
Wow – it was definitely LOUD. Can’t imagine how you managed to sleep through it, but if you were tired enough to do that then I’m glad you did!
I don’t think of myself as a “good” sleeper. I have decades of off-and-on insomnia. However, I can be a deep sleeper at times.
In college, I waited tables in one of the national parks, sleeping with a roommate in terrible little room above guest services. I woke up one morning with no doorknob. According to my roommate, during the night, the lock broke and she got locked out of the room. She banged and rattled the door, but I didn’t let her in, and she assumed I was somewhere else. She got maintenance out there and they removed the doorknob. And there I was, inside, fast asleep. Never heard any of it! She laughed at me for days.
I love us for real! And that is a very nice scent- I smelled on a co worker, who then said she would wear it every day for me! She did! (she was laid off, but at a loss to the company!)
What a sweet coworker! Much better than ones who complain they “can’t breathe with all that alcohol in the air” (adapted from a true story). 😀
Oh lord!
And she is really a sweet person! She is now making 25K more at a company that truly values her, so there is that.
I love it when karma does what it’s supposed to. 🙂
Did you see that Lush has a Halloween shower gel called Very Very Fightening? Mama Mia!
Galileo!
I see what you did there.? Now I’ve got an ear worm for the rest of the day.?
Me too. 🙂 There are definitely worse ear worms to have, so … you’re welcome? 😉
Bismillah! ?
The word I always hear as “Miss Miller” – LOL
???!
Autumn Walk (or Autumn Woods?) by The Burren Perfumery, which is a lovely perfumery/cafe in the Burren in Co. Clare. Situated in the most glorious setting, too!
I loved this scent in store but this was a bit before my current perfume habit and I found it pricey for 35 euro or so (I know…). I ended up buying it online later (they ship to the US). Anyway, while the blackberry leaves, hedgerow, rainy day vibe is lovely, it would work much better for me in a candle.
Happy Friday!
Can you make your own candle?
Crazy busy morning ? but smelling amazing in Gallagher Wicked Good from a kind NSTer.
You are smelling mighty fine!
Indeed! I don’t see he has released his new fragrance yet…waiting on that before I order a FB so I can get sample of the one hopefully too. Think I read it will be a gourmand.
It may be the Patchouli which I think is already available but I have to check the website.
Yes, I got an email last night saying the Patchouli one launched I think….yay! Thanks for letting me know. Was planning on getting the 100 ml but I wonder if it due to being natural the shelf life won’t be great. But then I wonder if it might go out of production due to vanilla being unavailable, etc. So much to contemplate this Saturday morning! 🙂 Perfume is my favorite contemplation.
Patchouli? Sign me up!
Joining other Portlanders celebrating the rain and clearer (but still apparently “poor”) air. Whenever I take my break, I will be walking.
SOTM is leftover Orris Noir from a reapplication last night. I’m working in my pjs, since I don’t have any meetings today. Eventually, I will clean up and find a new scent for the day!
It’s so much easier to breathe right now. I will be walking and doing a full set of Pilates later on today. The air will be back to Good tomorrow.
Yay! I’m supposed to work with my trainer tomorrow. We had to skip last week–no way I would have gotten enough air in me to do the work!
Hoping that you folks there get more rain!
Friday!
1) It’s raining, and the air quality is now moderate, going back to good tomorrow. I cannot emphasize how exponentially easier it is to breathe.
2) SOTD: Chanel Eau Premiere- I have a soft spot for this fragrance, as I bought it to reward myself for a job and buying a house. It’s the smell of success for me, of bouncing back from BS and doing the thing anyway.
Thank goodness!
I am always happy when it rains but I was weeping with happiness today.
Fabulous story!
Great perfume to keep and to remember why you have it in the first place!
Yes! And right now, it’s the scent of not only success, but survival. My housemate asked me about it and may also buy a bottle!
Ooh, maybe introduce the housemate to No.5 L’Eau too
I chose L’temp d’une Fete for comfort and strength today, on my son’s birthday anniversary.
I visited Arthur’s grave and laid sunflowers, which are the flower I associate with him. He would have been 20 today, he was 9 when he died, the age my daughter was yesterday..
It was a beautiful and golden day, L’temp d’une Fete was perfect.
I also collected some conkers for him, from the huge ancient horse chestnut in the little graveyard.
Later after I picked up the kids from school we toasted him with milkshakes at the new cafe in the village, and I shared the rest of the conkers I’d collected with them.
That’s a very sad loss for you, but I’m glad you were able to do some nice things to make the day special.
Thanks Calypso, it’s very important to mark our difficult days I think, I’m much better at giving myself time to feel my grief and sit with it than I used to be.
I think this is so true mayfly and am glad that you are able to do it.
Sending comforting hugs to you Mayfly! ?
Thank you very much for the emoji and kind thoughts perfumelover!
I was out walking yesterday and was stopped in my tracks by the chestnut tree above the graveyard which has just come into full flower, the white blooms have a touch of pink at the moment. It is a beautiful tree, and it just seemed to be bursting out of its skin with energy.
Sending you lots of love.
Sending you a big hug and kind thoughts. Thank you for sharing your beautiful memory with us.
Sending love to you on a challenging day. Thanks for sharing the beautiful things you did to celebrate your son on his birthday!
Biggest hugs to you.
Also sending hugs, mayfly. Thank you for sharing.
Sending big hugs, mayfly.
Sending you hugs as you remember your sweet boy. Thank you for sharing the day with us.
Hugs mayfly. Sometimes the past is difficult to come to grips with.
hugs to you, Mayfly. the tincture of time is not nearly adequate.
How brave you are, you keep Arthur alive in remembering him in such touching ways. Sending you strength and hugs.
Super busy day! I am sooooo glad is Friday! Counting the
the hours for the day to be over.
Wearing Dana Tabu for the cp. It is a very dear perfume for me, because it has been my mother’s signature scent all her life. I don’t wear it often, but the two violin shaped bottles that I have, I confiscated from her years ago. She has at least 10-15 bottles, minis included, that everybody used to give her for her birthdays, Christmas, mother’s days, etc. All of them are now vintage. Her first bottle was a Valentine’s day present from my father 40 something years ago. The rest is history!
Happy Friday! ?
What a special link to have with your Mum, there must be many memories attached to that perfume!
Many memories for sure, especially for her. I grew up smelling Tabu on her, either when she wore the perfume or the body powder. She only wore it for special occasions and these days anytime she goes out, which it does not happen often anymore. She treasure her stash very dearly!
What a sweet way to carry your mom in your ❤️.
Thank you, Laila! ?
You smell amazing and what a great story!
Thank you Gail!
Vavavoom and a great way to honor your mom!
Thank you, Hajusuuri! ?
Sweet memories! Happy Friday. 🙂
Thank you! ?
It’s awesome that you have both your mom and some of her perfume around. They’re both treasures.
Thank you, Jalapeno! ?
Hey PL67!
Do you ever use the shower gel? It makes terrific bubble baths and costs nothing. The whole apartment smells divine for hours afterwards.
Hi Portia! I was not aware that there was a bubble bath, but I will look for it right away. I am pretty sure that mom and I will enjoy it greatly! Thanks for the info! ??
I’m doing the CP in Hanae Mori, the butterfly bottle, which I must have had at least 12-15 years. I rarely wear it now but it’s special because it’s one of the first perfumes I bought after bravely venturing into the fancy sections of Neiman-Marcus and coping with sales ladies. I’m not sure why I liked this so much but I suppose its appeal is that it’s easy to lie and the bottle is very pretty. I remember the SA told me she liked it a lot too and often wore it as a bedtime scent as it’s so relaxing. That idea was very surprising to me, that someone might wear perfume to bed! Little did I know!
Ha! it’s so interesting how our perspective on perfume changes once we’ve dived into the rabbit hole!
I love Hanae Mori, it is so comforting! You smell lovely today!
I remember when the perfume sections of Nordstrom and NM were strange and scary places to me.
I’m cheating a bit as my soft spot is Nivea , the thick cream version that comes in a flat round tin. It’s not quite as I remember it but as a kid I used to think it was fabulous, as much for the packaging as the smell. It seemed like something very exotic ( made in Germany, on the other side of the world) and luxurious. I still like the smell. Reminds me of a time when anything to do with “beauty” was new and special.
Enjoying the comments. have a good weekend!
You have a great weekend as well. I’m with you on the time, I loved them even more than their contents.
I really like tins, too.
Not doing the CP today, wearing Indemodable Iris Perle, which is more like a guilty pleasure. I love it but it is ridiculously expensive and also on the light side, so I have gone through a bunch in a pretty short period of time.
You smell lovely!
Thank you! I do really love it.
Zoologist T-Rex which is ridiculously bombastic and smoky and over the top and yet – I love it.
I won’t always wear it if I want to be polite to coworkers (true of many a Zoologist), but today I didn’t need to interact closely with anyone, so I went for broke!
Happy Friday vibes to everyone!
T-Rex = ?
Bright sunshine but very cool temps today – it’s definitely fall and a perfect day for my choice for the cp, vintage Houbigant Chantilly. I have it in numerous forms and today I’m wearing the edt from the beautiful sunburst splash bottle. I’m amazed at the strength of just a few drops dabbled, not even sprayed, compared to many of today’s much lighter scents. I love it through all its stages, bright opening, floral heart, and woodsy/mossy drydown (my favorite part).
I’ve been wearing Houbigant Chantilly since I was a young teen and it wasn’t yet vintage! It’s literally been with me through most of my major life events. One of my favorite photos is of me in my bridal gown and veil on my wedding day choosing Chantilly from the perfume tray my mom had given me as a birthday gift that year. She’s been gone for many years but I still have that very same tray, and I think of her often when I choose my SOTD from my monthly selection of fragrances arrayed there.
Hoping that all the natural disasters so prevalent this week swiftly diminish and all of you stay safe and well this weekend. And, go White Sox! First team to clinch a playoff berth!
What a touching memory, especially when mothers are involved! I can imagine how beautiful that wedding photo must be! ?
What pl67 said. Lovely.?
What a great story! I hope your White Sox do well.
What a great memory. 🙂
It’s wonderful that you still have that perfume tray and use it. ?
I’m wearing Eau des Merveilles – not CP compliant, because I just adore it. Today has been such a stupid series of idiotic events that I can only laugh. At least I smell amazing!!
Better to be able to laugh about things than scream expletives…
I certainly muttered some under my breath!
A series of self induced idiotic events or are you a spectator?
If you’re going to not comply then Eau des Merveilles seems a pretty good reason. YUM!!
I didn’t induce them but they sure impacted me. We were supposed to sign all the documents and take possession of our new house, but someone in California forgot to sign a form so we can’t close until Monday. So we’re in this empty house with two confused pets and two cranky humans.
I blame the lawyer(s) SMH
Another gorgeous day here, weather-wise. But this one definitely feels like fall and not late summer.
Some good news here: someone came early this afternoon to patch the ceiling where a hole was cut during the master bath repair. The guy was quick and polite. He also mentioned that today was the first part of the repair. For anyone who hasn’t ever had to patch drywall, usually when someone does it right, they put a piece of drywall in to match the size of the hole, then it’s “mudded” with what’s called a scratch coat of compound. Mesh tape is also used at this point. After things dry for a couple of days, the first repair is sanded down, and a second (or finish) coat of compound is added.
So repairs aren’t quite finished, but the end is in sight!
Something cool: there’s an itty bitty green preying mantis hanging out in my sage planter today. It’s only about an inch from beak to tail, and I think it’s cute! The drywall guy spotted it as he was leaving.
SOTD = Deep Red by Hugo Boss. It’s a cuddly, sweet citrus-vanilla-with sandalwood perfume that is not sophisticated by any means. But I always enjoy it when I wear it. And this is my third bottle.
Have you inherited my stutter? ???
That should have been down below ??
Sure looks like it, doesn’t it? I think your stutter gets passed around the NST regulars. ??
Oh, I love Deep Red and I loved your Something Cool story – Tom, the last of our butterflies to be born (we keep milkweed cuttings in containers to help the Monarch butterfly population and watch them hatch into caterpillars, then form chrysalises, then finally emerge in their final form.) I was as excited as if I’d given birth myself! (And my grandkids get to name the butterflies, hence ‘Tom.’)
???!
Thank you for keeping the monarchs in milkweed!
I forgot to finish my sentence above – Tom was born shortly after I finished my SOTD post earlier today. After his wings dried I put him in the spruce tree until he’s ready to fly!
I never knew that about fixing a gyprock wall.

Wow! Third bottle! When you’re stuck, you’re stuck good. Was this a signature scent at one point?
On a ceiling repair, we needed work done to a portion of the basement ceiling and it took several days of curing / drying with an industrial-sized contraption (it was big but small enough to be able to brought in through normal size doors) before it was painted.
Nope, not a signature. By the time I found Deep Red, I had a small perfume wardrobe. But it was definitely before I fell down the perfume rabbit hole!
Also, I have always tried to get the 30mL bottles whenever I can. I grumble a bit about 50mLs, and scowl if the only option is 100mLs.
Ok, I saw 2 other comments before this but I read from the bottom up ?.
See my comment above ⬆️⬆️⬆️
We had a front come through, so the humidity has dropped considerably and the breeze is almost cool. I’ll take what I can get!
Spent a couple of hours cleaning out the spare room today. Lots more hours needed. The floors need to be dust mopped, but I didn’t get to it. Maybe tomorrow.
I started out in Elixir des Merveilles for the walk this morning (plink), and am now cp compliant in vintage Coco. My mom drained one of the black rectangular bottles that takes the refills. When I found it, I was simultaneously happy that she’d enjoyed it so much, but a little sad that she didn’t get more of it. She might not have known it was refillable. I will never know. ?
Awwwww. That’s a bittersweet perfume memory.
Sweet story, another ‘Mom’ memory. I love it.
Lovely story! ?
A very cool fall day, went for a walk with a friend and had a good chat. I was planning on 4160 Tuesdays Over the Chocolate Shop but the bottle was inaccessible so I ended up in Maria Candida Gentile Noir Tropical.
You smell wonderful. Jealous of your cool fall day.
And my small bottle of Noir Tropical arrived yesterday from IndieScents! Thanks for enabling that purchase.
Yay! 🙂
Givenchy Dahlia Noir. No special reason for choosing it today, just curiosity. Very pretty and springlike for the temp-droppin’ weather here as well.
SotD = Nicolai Patchouli Intense
I keep this sample to remind me that it’s worth trying anything once (or more). I don’t usually get along well with patchouli, but this one has lavender and rose and cinnamon. So I do enjoy smelling it, though I don’t often want to wear it.
Patchouli Intense is a beauty, and it has that Nicolai feeling that I like. Maybe it’s a French perfume thing? There’s a mineral-ic, bracing feel to the base of some Nicolai scents, also some of the Rochas scents I’ve tried.
Wishing everyone a happy weekend! 🙂
Lavender is usually a tricky note for me, but I’ve learned to never say never about it… I have 2 bottles of perfume that prominently feature lavender. Funny how that works.
Patchouli Intense sounds like it would be up my alley!
Patchouli Intense is unusual, it doesn’t smell like other patchouli-rose scents. I hope you will seek it out and give it a try.
I love love love lavender, especially dried lavender buds and straight up essential oil, though I must agree that it can be iffy in perfume.
(Mon Guelain, I’m looking at you!) 😀
I have a travel spray “freebie” from LuckyScent.
perfumath freebie? 🙂 definitely travel spray worth!
Heh, not quite ?. Instead of free shipping, I opted for getting one of the travel sprays – but I did the math ?
Hi everyone, I’m chiming in very late. My COTD was/is Love’s Baby Soft mixed with a touch of SSS Incense Pure.
I just found out Ruth Bader Ginsburg has passed away.
I am devastated.
Same about RBG.
Yeah, me too. My first reaction re: RBG was something extremely unprintable.
Yes!!!
oh no no no, dissent, dissent, dissent! I’m so sad. 🙁
Going to wear my RBG tank top tomorrow, the one that has her picture and says, “Not fragile like a flower, fragile like a BOMB.”
Awesome!
RBG was a trailblazer.
Same. Hard to hold back tears. Enormous loss to us all.
Agreed. Her loss creates a crater that will not be filled.
I wish I had several soft spot perfumes. My mom wore things like Red Door, Gloria Vanderbilt, Oscar de la Renta and such when I was young. At some point in the late 90s she got some Allure and has been wearing it ever since. Alas, I have none of that.
For myself, I have a few but for today I’m in Baccarat Rouge 540 because that’s what I got married in.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Yay for Oscar! I adore it.
Your perfume choice makes me smile, it’s such a wonderful thing to have a scent memory like that.
I have a soft spot for ambergris, meaning I always find it interesting, usually in a good way. Rouge 540 has been on my perpetual sample list, so I just this moment put a sample in my cart. Gonna place an order this weeeeekend. 😉
Was 540 a perfect wedding scent? It feels so right for such a momentous occasion.
I love Red Door, it’s such a lovely scent. I need to reach out for that one more frequently.
Ariana Grande REM mostly because it just arrived today but that is one of my favorite songs off that album so I’ll count it.
I sprayed the air once, then once on each arm before going to sit next to my boyfriend on the couch and he immediately commented it was a lot! I was shocked because I can’t really smell it unless I lift my arm but I was like a foot away from him. I knew my sense of smell was bad but I didn’t think it was *this* bad! ? At least REM smells nice, I’ll just do 1 next time.
This happens at our place a lot. I can’t go near Jin when I originally spritz, the top notes seem to attack him. It’s a 10 minute waiting period between spritz and sit.
Maybe next time I’ll spritz before doing my skin care routine and enjoy it myself for a few minutes.
One spritz of Sticky Cake on my left wrist, one spritz of Nomad Tea on my right. When I bring my wrists together I smell EXACTLY like perfume version of my favorite indulgence… My sweet mint tea and this wonderful cake dough I could just even eat raw with the tip of my finger… ummmm I am in heaven!! If I had to go to a deserted island forever and could bring only ONE perfume I would… Ask for letting me take two, please. Sticky Cake and Nomad Tea of course:) I don’t want to sound boring but I love them so much they are worth their weight in gold to me. Seriously.
Sticky Cake is a fantastic fragrance 🙂 delicious!
Thank You very much for this compliment!! I enjoy wearing Sticky Cake so much it’s like:Iris… Cake dough.. Iris… Cake dough… Iris… At the very, very end it smells like milk and cereal but for the most part it’s this Iris and cake dough 🙂
I sprayed this but did not wear it as it can be a bit much – Covet by Sarah Jessica Parker. I bought this when it first came out and my dog, Harry, did not appreciate it. He chewed the little brown flower cap right up. Now that he’s gone, seeing the bottle always makes me think of him.
Oh, how sad! But I hope that after you miss him a flood of warm memories will comfort your heart.
Awww. May the memories of your sweet boy comfort you.
