Monday Monday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Flower by Kenzo L'Elixir, because I came across it while looking for something else. Plus, it's fun.
Reminder: on 9/18 the topic is Soft spot...wear a perfume that you may or may not wear often, and may or may not really love, but that remains dear to you for some other reason. Suggested by Kanuka.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown are shoes from the Kenzo + Vans collaboration, Spring 2020.
sotd is Hiram Green Vivacious from the sample set. Really nice this one!
Not sure I love it enough to go for a FB. If they had smaller sizes perhaps. If one fell in my lap for free I would certainly not turn my nose up at it!!
Also – my treat to self Box of Eels arrived today! ?
Yay for treats and especially Chanel treats! 🙂
Vivacious is so pretty. Hiram Green used to have 10 ml travel sprays but they were discontinued as he wasn’t making any profit with them.
I accept that perfumers must make a profit… Even if it means no having access to more travel sprays ?
Is it the packaging that makes it too pricey or the juice? I’m wondering if more companies did some kind of less fancy “refill” bottles, if that would make smaller amounts worth the bother? I know I would buy fragrances without their fancy packages to get the size I want.
Sometimes! Perfume is both about the juice and chemistry AND the presentation. I am pretty sure though that good, solid travel spray bottles, made with good glass, still costs quite a bit as opposed to a full 30-100 mL bottles.
Personally, I could care less about all the froofroo boxes inside boxes with fancy, color-matched packing materials. Even the caps, if it’s a smaller bottle that I didn’t have to pay large bottle prices for, I don’t care if it’s just a practical thing to stick on top to reduce evaporation. I wish it was like CDs when folks started offering selling them with or without jewel cases and it became normal and acceptible to sell without all the added froofala.
i am curious to smell Vivacious!
I like most Hiram Greens ?
Moon Bloom is still my favourite.
Hiram Green used to offer 10 ml travel sprays, unfortunately they no longer do ?
It is worth seeking out for sure Jiji! And I agree – Moon Bloom is delightful 🙂
I really love Vivacious. Makes me wish I owned a pair of crushed velvet boots in bottle green.
Good morning my fellow Monday warriors…..
WOW! I am really dragging this morning, and not really sure why? Mountain Dew is on tap and hasn’t kicked in yet…. 🙂
Trying to be sophisticated in Burberry Touch for Women; I like the cranberry note and the powdery vibe. Perfume Grinch is still on vacation for another week, so I can wear some heavier hitters for a few more days… 🙂
SMELLY FEEL GOOD STORY: My oldest daughter tracked down a bottle of Jo Malone Tobacco and Mandarin for a great price and bought it as a surprise for me! We have been decluttering my collection and she’s been helping me to sell a few things on Mercari. While we were looking thru some old samples, we found the Jo Malone sample and I was lamenting how much I wished I’d bought one. She’s a good kid, that one! Not because she spent money on me but because she’s very giving and thoughtful while being pretty careful with her money. I’m thinking I will let her keep whatever profit she makes from helping me sell my bottles!
What a great surprise and really kind of your daughter!
Your daughter…melts my heart
How is your selling going?
We just put 5 or 6 things up last night, so I don’t know if we’ve had any bites? Lesley is in charge of that completely! LOL
First time I’ve ever tried to sell anything on Mercari….usually I just give things to coworkers and such, but I had an Angel EdT that I thought would bring in a few bucks….
I tried Mercari for the first time recently too, and was surprised at how easy it was. There are sooo many lovely perfumes available and I would do it again in a second! I hope you have good luck JadainGa. I didn’t pay attention to the ‘who pays shipping designation ‘ but now I know better.
Thanks for mentioning Mercari, AngelaB. I haven’t had the nerve to sell on eBay as I’ve heard too many stories of people taking advantage of sellers. I might try Mercari, though!
That’s so thoughtful of your daughter!
Enjoy the grinch free week?
Awww how lovely ❤️
How lovely. This could be a good CP – wear a fragrance that has a story behind it for you – i.e. NOT the marketing story! (Similar to this week’s cp but different.)
Love that story too!
Your daughter sounds like a real gem! Enjoy your week of heavy hitters before the grinch returns. ?
For the CP No 19 Poudre
Its last a New York minute, but I still adore it
Also, we took a trip to Costco, something we normally don’t do. I have gone once in the past 10 years. This may sound crazy but I think I have fallen in love with a bread there. 3 slices this morning with brie and apricot jam. Its not a white bread but a multigrain. I love it!
Love a good multigrain. I’m the opposite of my husband, who still likes traditional (from childhood) white bread. I haven’t been to Costco in years.
I’m a 19 fangirl. I’ve never yet tried the poudre. How does it compare to the regular No 19 in your view?
To me, its 19 plus a handful of powder but with zero longevity.
Don’t blind buy
Thanks! Not a big fan of powder…
I am in Gritti Aqua Incanta, and today I am getting a lot of powdery vanilla from it. I still cannot say I wholheartedly love this lipstick/powder scent, but it is definitely pretty.
Hey guys,
According to tracking numbers, everyone should be getting the Iris Torrefie today, only two numbers said they may be running late. So expect your packages soon and enjoy:).
Sotd Le Lion
Still loving this one:).
edit: may be running late but noted they may still be delivered today:).
Thanks for the update – mine came!
Golden Wood from The Harmonist which, aside from being a lovely scent for cooler weather, was also the last thing I bought at Barney’s before it closed (It was a barely used tester)
Aw! Still hard to believe how many department stores we are losing.
The Lord & Taylor near me is closing–I’m just glad that I am retired…I used to buy most of my working wear and opening night evening gowns there. Don’t need them anymore….
All of them are closing 🙁
Wearing Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille in an effort to lift my spirits. Having a hard time mentally & emotionally lately, but trying to persevere and yank myself up by the bootstraps.
cazaubon, I’m sending you fragrant virtual hugs. Hang in there.
Sending you warm hugs.
I feel you..my back is still out of wack and I normally exercise to relieve stress and its just not happening until this sciatica things subsides. Joining you with the grumps!
Thank you, hope your back feels better soon!
Hugs and a backrub!?
I hope things improve soon, cazaubon. Fragrance can be a help toward that boot strap effort.
It’s definitely a hard time. Thinking of you!
Vanilla is always the right choice. 😉 Big hugs to you.
These are hard times indeed. Hang in there!
I am sending hugs, Cazaubon!
I hope all will be better soon??
Hope double vanille works double on lifting your spirits!
Sending hugs and a hand to help with the bootstrap ??
I hope that you are feeling better; you sure smell good!
I bet chocolate would smell really good even though you smell really good already!
Just had a chocolate chip cookie for lunch, it helped. 🙂
I laid across the floor yesterday and ate an entire pint of Ben and Jerry’s chocolate fudge. It was needed. Have another ?
Hugs to you.
LOL! I did have another cookie. 🙂
Thank you my friends, I appreciate all your kind words, this is such a supportive group. Sending you all hugs back!
Hope you feel better soon.
Sending peace and hugs, Cazaubon! ?
You can do it cazaubon!
I can totally relate. The last 24 hours were hard on me as well.Hang in there my friend,we are tough as a Memo leather!!
XO
Yes! You both are!
Thanks and hugs back to you too. I just upped the ante with Musc Ravageur. 🙂
Hang in there…I feel your pain. As my darling mother used to say, “this too shall pass..” Be well and be gentle with yourself.
Thank you so much.
I get it. I’m pulling for you!
There’s a funny Canadian show called the Red Green Show where the guy ends each episode with, « And remember, keep your stick on the ice. We’re all pulling for you! ». Thanks for the positive thoughts and the smile.
For some reason, my favourite Red Green quote is, “If the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.”
Oh I love that line too!
I remember Red Green! I used to watch it on PBS. Been ages since I’ve seen it.
Still roaring through my samples, so I’m wearing Atelier Cologne Clementine California, which is… okay? Fairly uninteresting. Not really my style. I don’t hate it.
The other day I found and finished a Luckyscent sample of Rose Anonyme, the only Atelier Cologne I have a bottle of (presumably I bought it because of that sample), and was very annoyed to find that the sample is much better than what I have — richer, plusher, darker. It’s obvious that my bottle is post-reformulation, which feels like bait-and-switch. I mean, I still like it, but I’d much rather have had what I now consider the real thing.
Oh that is so disappointing to have a reformulation suprise like that! I feel like it’s false marketing, unless the switches are very subtle and for good reasons (not just to save a bit of money).
I felt the same. It kind of reminded me of Clinique happy.
I think they were acquired by EL in 2016, and honestly, I haven’t been wild about any of their fragrances since then. I think Oolong Infini is wonderful, as is Cedrat Enivrant, but after that, the line has been meh to me.
One suggestion….Neiman’s carried a more intense version of Rose Anonyme, or they did last year at least. I tried it, and it was pretty wonderful. But, if you don’t want to throw more clams at a house that disappointed you, that would be understandable!
Trying out Dolce Passione by Pantheon Roma today…hunted down a sample at Indiescents after stumbling upon good reviews on Fragrantica.
Getting spicy chocolate so far and will update later.
Pretty sure this has some Iso E in it and wanted to know how others feel about Iso E but not get into virtual fisticuffs.?
For me, Iso E has a certain sharpness where I feel like my nasal (maybe sinus even) membranes burn a bit. It has a woody/cedar note in smell. For me, it tends to overpower and often overshadow whatever perfume it is in.
I can pick it out in several Ormonde Jayne fragrances and just tried 4160 Tuesdays Sexiest Scent on the Planet over the weekend and it definitely has it too.
Iso E or something along those lines (ambroxan?) that is added to lots of fragrances in the last few years makes some fragrances actually smell acidic to me. I can tell there is something lovely under that acetic acid smell, but it’s hard for me to get to. However, I don’t get that so much in Ormonde Jayne which is known for the Iso E so maybe it’s something else for me…
Yeah, I sometimes get a nail polish remover blast at the beginning of scents that have a lot of it. Not nice.
Sexiest smells to me like *mostly& iso e, ditto with Ormonde Jayne Isfahan. I love iso e, but I know many people don’t.
Clinique Peony Picnic. I picked this for the same reason Robin, its fun.
Fun matters!
Eau des Merveilles. Haven’t worn this one in awhile and it’s hitting the spot today. It’s my youngest daughters birthday. Fifteen, I can hardly believe it. When this one leaves the nest, I don’t know what I will do with myself. She is the most loving and kind hearted person I know. Can’t take credit for it either, she just came that way.☺️
Banana cake with chocolate frosting will be her birthday cake later today.
Happy Birthday to your daughter! Have a great day ??
Ditto for my youngest son – who is now 27!! – he is always the one who calls me to see how I am doing, makes sure I get a chance to speak in our noisy family gatherings, etc. I love all three of my sons, but he’s the extra kind one. I do miss him, and it was hard when he left the nest (partly because he was the last), but it’s exciting to see how he has grown into a wonderful adult.
Happy Birthday to your daughter!? The cake sounds delish!
Happy birthday to your sweet girl! I have one like that, too. ❤️
Happy Birthday to the youngest mini-Madtown! ?
So far only scent is coffee breath. Work is cancelled today, and they’ve delayed the first day for kids by a week due to the wildfires and hazardous smoke in the area. I will work anyway. Creating online lessons requires so much hunting down of resources and creating materials from scratch. No chance to reuse that great intro lab activity I discovered 5 years ago!
Between the weird, ashy light and wearing Nude yesterday (apples!), my brain is completely convinced it’s October.
Oh, I totally made that chocolate caramel cake I was imagining yesterday, and it is ridiculous! I made homemade coconut caramel (subbing in coconut milk for the cream, since I’m lactose intolerant), dark chocolate ganache and a mocha icing, and sandwiched all of that between layers of my favorite easy chocolate cake. Yum! It hasn’t yet been sliced up and put into the freezer, but that will likely happen today.
I’m with you on the coffee breath front – just finished my second espresso, and really need to go brush my teeth.
How on earth have you managed to refrain from cutting into that cake?
Oh, I did have a piece yesterday. But Hajusuuri had suggested slicing up the remaining to freeze and avoid eating ALL. AT. ONCE. It’s a strategy I’ve used before and it usually helps me to make more thoughtful decisions about when I want a treat!
Being a baker myself, that sounds both delicious and fun! Well worth it, and I like the freezing idea, too.
I REALLY needed a project yesterday, completely stuck in the house all day! It was really fun. My private episode of a Bake-Off show. 🙂
I made lemon bars – not nearly as involved, but still a fun baking project.
Num! I haven’t made lemon bars in decades! (I always enjoy them when I eat them, but somehow, if I’m gonna make a sweet, I nearly always veer towards chocolate.) Glad you got in some fun baking yesterday!
LOVE a good lemon bar.
Vetiver Extraordinaire for me today
We have unusual hot weather right now. ☀️☀️☀️
28 Celcius / 82 Fahrenheit
I dont think I have ever experienced such a warm September day here in The Netherlands!!!
I have been very busy lately, mostly with work, reading, catching up with some friends…. and horse riding. Horses bring me so much joy!
I know there are some horse lovers here, so i want to share this.
Besides the usual lessons at the lovely local horseriding school, I also took a lesson in riding without saddle (at a very small stable, somewhat further away).
It was amazing and so much fun. I cant wait to do it again next month.
You do use a fabric to protect their back, but no leather, no stirrups.
As for perfumes.
I haven’t tried that many new perfumes lately but I am enjoying what I have right now. And i still have some on my wish list.
It seems like I am done exploring (probably for a while). I still have dozens of samples to check out.
Maybe its a phase (and i think horses are eating my money ???), but it also has to do with Covid19.
I often ordered samples online, but part of the fun was also visiting and browsing stores, chatting to the people working there, trying on new scents there…. And i still dont feel very comfortable doing that right now. I do want to support them, so thankfully most stores offer online ordering….
Seems like we’re under same weather front Jiji!
I am not complaining.
We had lots of grey and dark weather. Its extra depressing if you are working from home all day.
I already had my raincoat ready for autumn, but still hadnt stored my sandals away. ?
Glad the raincoat can wait, and the sandals are still useful. ??
Gladly I work in the lab normally since May.
Yay for horses and sunshine!!! Sunshine here in Germany too – Summer’s last hurrah ☀️☀️☀️
Probably the little cloth is more to protect your pants than the horse’s back. If you are riding bareback, it’s amazing how much horse hair will work into your bottom, no matter how well groomed the horse is…. 🙂
Horses will eat all your money, all your time, and steal your heart if you let them. My household revolves around my horses, Sheba and Ceasar….
A makes sense
a white connemara pony ….even with a cloth…white hairs all over the place afterwards ?
Sheba and Ceasar…those names alone imply their status ?
A makes sense = yup makes sense
I dont know why my typing is so wobby today ?
I gave up horse riding neatly twenty years ago, but started at the age of five. I used to love to go riding without a saddle we didn’t user anything, Just got on the horse. IT keeps one really warm.
Out of curiosity where did you go for the lesson without the saddle?
I’m in a Chanel melange, because someone asked about something on my swap list and I wanted to compare notes. Bois des Iles fits the CP – it has this plush, “I want to roll around in this note” (is it the sandalwood? I’m not sure). Yet I don’t wear my little decant all that much. Maybe the whole point is to bury your nose in it, and I can’t do that on my own neck :).
Anyway, keeping it light because the air is still in the unhealthy range and we can’t really air out the house, which most Germans feel they must do every morning – we have a verb for it.
? “ we can’t really air out the house, which most Germans feel they must do every morning“
I’ve definitely developed the habit of “lüften” on a regular basis and consider myself a “frischluftfanatiker”. So can’t imagine how tough it must be to keep the windows closed due to smoky air!
I admit, my German is not that good (we Dutchies do practice it in high school, especially when you enjoy a higher level of education),
but i love the richness of the language and how there are words for very specific things, activities or feelings. ?
Where is said ‘especially’ I meant ‘mostly’
Yes, and then all Germans also can get a mysterious ailment called “Zug” where a stream of cold air (often coming from lueften) will tense your muscles. “Close the window! I’m getting Zug!” “But we need fresh air!”…and so it goes. 🙂
this is true ?
Ha, you are so right, we are like this!
I’m not German, but growing up, my mother always threw open windows for fresh air, even if for a little bit, so I’ve become a bit of a Frischluftfanatiker as well. It is TRULY tough to keep the house hermetically sealed during this horrible smoky period. I can feeeeeeeeel the CO2 buildup blur my brain.
Yes! It’s funny, stay-at-home-for-covid hasn’t bothered me nearly as much as stay-in-the-house-for-smoke. I *really* need to go for a long walk. Soon! They say it may start clearing tomorrow…. hope so.
Didn’t you say that a week ago too? >< Fingers crossed that you're right. Hope your husband is staying safe.
Oh, I completely agree about the smoke vs. COVID. My husband just stepped outside and said that maybe the smoke is light enough for me to go for a walk. I am going to test that out in a little while. I hope he’s right!
that sounds awful! fingers crossed on both hands and feet.
Yes, I don’t air my house every morning (not German), but I love the idea. I have windows open whenever possible, and including bedroom windows cracked a bit all winter when we lived in Colorado. Not right now, though – we were actually in the hazardous AQI this morning. And along with Pixel, I really NEED to walk. Originally, the prediction was for our air to clear some this week, now they’re saying not. 🙁
We’ve had something like 27 straight ‘spare the air’ days due to the smoke. The national weather service has been predicting clearing ‘tomorrow’ for more than a week, and they’ve been completely wrong about it. Grumble.
Noooo – I was keeping it together for that anticipated cleaning of the air!!
Sooner or later they have to be right… right??? Maybe this time…?
The Germans have so many wonderful, useful words!
You know what a new gender neutral word is for woman in German?
Mensch mit Menstruationshintergrund.
? Did not know that that. Usually it’s Migrationshintergrund? Or I have I been hearing this wrong all these years?? 🙂
It’s a word invented by a German comedian and is not meant to be taken taken seriously. Of course Dhr was indpired nu migrationshintergrund.
Dhr is she
What about those “mitout” Menstruationshintergrund? ?
Even better?
I do the same, got the habit from my German grandmother who was such a fresh air fiend that she kept her bedroom window open 365 days a year, in northern Canada!
the next step up: hang your bedding out the window every morning to air it out.
My (Danish heritage) dad does that. I’d say it’s 50/50 for the fresh air and for the cats to come and go without bugging him.
Although my family is Russian, we did the same every morning, even when we lived in upstate NY. It’s a habit I continue to this day. 🙂
My husband has become kind of obsessed with airing out the house and having the windows open at night. It’s perfect for September in the Great Lakes, chilly nights and mild days, but he’s now talking about not putting the storm windows down this winter and I’m not in favor of that at all!
If the weather is nice (NOT hot and muggy!) I try to crack open the door to the patio for a bit of fresh air. Unfortunately, sometimes my plans are ruined by the noise of riding lawnmowers and leaf blowers.
It was 49F when I got up this morning and of course every window was wide open, so I wrapped up in a blanket with Larry the cat at my feet to have my coffee. He went to the groomer at the vet clinic recently to have some mats removed and we asked for a lion cut so now I think he’s cold, poor thing.
Perfect day for Chergui.
Oh yes, it’s a Chergui day there! ♥
Oh but Larry probably looks so handsome! Handsome AND snuggly cats are the best.
One of our cats (both longhaired rescues) would do much better with a lion cut in the summer as she’s prone to gnarly mats, but she hates being groomed.
We tried to explain to her that this just makes the mats worse and getting them brushed or cut out even less pleasant, but that went as well as could be expected ?
Thankfully this summer we found one particular comb she can better tolerate if she also gets lots of loving head rubs at the same time.
Yes, I suffer many a scratch when I try to groom SmokeyToes. He hates being groomed.
I had a better comb for Larry this past year but he still got a few mats that were beyond clipping ourselves. We take him to the vet so they can drug him before grooming because he’s such a jerk. Everything that needs to be done like clipping his claws requires both of us, my husband holds him and I do the cutting. After the vet visit he stays mad at us for a couple days, it’s pretty funny ?
My previous long-haired kitty would get mats too, which would need to be snipped out. Naturally he regarded scissors as his utmost worst enemy so it was quite the battle.
MonYay or MonNay today? I’m not sure.
It surely is too warm for September in Poland, 28*C right now. At least it doesn’t feel the same as if it was July.
I’m in Nishane Ambra Calabria.
Sounded like a Monyay!
Amidst ever increasing chaos I manage to smell quite nice in Vêpres Siciliennes.
I looked up the Fragrantica page for this perfume. It sounds so uplifting, fruits, flowers and spices.
I hope the chaos still has some room left to maneuver in ?
Less and less, but it’s all part of the game. Just a week more of utter mess and then I can slowly start to reorganise. In an odd sort of way I’m occasionally even enjoying it. It’s not dull, that is for sure.
So glad!
Bon courage! You smell lovely.
Bon courage à toi aussi. Things will get better.
Isn’t this a lovely scent? It’s one of the few things I still have access to, my box with MDCI samples.
Oh my goodness set the coffee maker for 7:30 pm so of course it was cold and old at 7:30 am this morning.
have had power for 36 hours now, fingers crossed it stays on.
trying to keep off as many things as possible, finally did one load of laundry. Unwrapped a fresh bottle of Volutes EDT. Smoke inside and smoke outside.
Ugh…coffee makers should know better!
I’ve done that same thing with my alarm clock a couple of times. Thankfully, I didn’t oversleep on those days!
Good Morning everyone.
Heeley Zeste de Gimgembre today. This is a delicious ginger.
It has great longevity.
It smells fresh crisp and there’s something happening now that stays true to the ginger one hour in and makes it more interesting.
It would be truly amazing on a man too.
If it came in 15 ml, I would have to order it just based on your comments.
😉
Fell of the bandwagon and got two more candles from the Bath and Body Works candle sale yesterday. My autistic friend got so excited that his sister agreed to give him some spending money for Bath and Body Works to get 2 wallflower refills that he called me super early yesterday morning to help him pick them out. Wasn’t happy to be woken up at 7:30 but his sister rarely gives him money to spend on something fun. Now I think I am going to have to start burning 2 candles at a time at this point. About to wash off the no 5 edp and switch over to something else.
I am in SHL Rose de Petra today, and therefore am not CP-compliant.
Monday is off to a fantastic start. In addition to an absence of sunshine and unhealthy air quality, I appear to have made a phenomenally stupid mistake in my work. This is a mistake I made about six weeks ago, and have spent something approaching 40 h since then trying to understand the mysterious results I got. I’ve wasted not just my own time, but other people’s time trying to understand it. Then last Friday, someone said, “Stupid question, but are you sure you were looking at the difference and not the value?” (To simplify the issue.) I nearly just blew past his question–of course I had been looking at the difference! how dumb did he think I was?–but I decided to check my work anyway, whereupon I learned exactly how stupid I was.
Now I have to tell my boss and my boss’s boss and an entire teamful of people what an idiot I am and how much of everyone’s time I’ve been wasting. Why isn’t it Friday yet? I wish I were a turtle.
Yikes! Sorry that happened. We all make these mistakes, though – remember that you don’t learn half as much from your successes, right (I’m sure this has near zero comfort value right now)?
Haha, near-zero is right. Once I see how the higher-ups respond to my error, I may or may not reevaluate. But thank you 🙂
That’s quite a Monday morning! I love your In wish I were a turtle comment’ . I think they will all forgive your error entirely! Honest mistakes happen and owning them immediately is a charming quality. Good luck.
Thank you, AngelaB, I so appreciate your kind and forgiving words!
I once had a friend who, when he was interviewing someone, would casually ask them if they had ever wrapped up a project and later found they’d made a mistake. To him, this was the most important question in the interview. If they answered ‘no’, he didn’t learn much; but if they answered ‘yes’ and clearly felt awful about it, he wanted to hire them. If they answered ‘yes’ and didn’t seem to think much of it, they didn’t get the job.
Yes, I think it’s how we deal with our inevitable f-ups that matter far more than the fact that we will, inevitably, make them.
I always ask a question about that, too. “Tell me about a mistake you made (a big one, not like making too many copies of something) and how you handled it.” Because it was a question I got when I was hired for a job six years ago. I have at least a couple of (true, unfortunately) very bad mistake stories and how I felt like crap. Maybe that’s why I got the job?
I always ask a variant of this question.
I agree, asking this type of behavioral question, and the responses are quite telling and very helpful information to have.
Well, gosh, it sounds like (a) my deep regret gives me hireable qualities and (b) I’m in good mistake-making company. I’m feeling so supported through this humbling experience.
I have done this mistake on any number of occasions. We get into the rhythm of our work and sometimes we forget to focus OUT as well as in.
Happy Monday! Stretch, breathe through a mask, and soldier on!
Thank you, Ede, you’re so right. I’ll try to remember that as I go forward 🙂 (and stay safe through the fires!)
Oh yes, been there with some awful mistakes myself. I know it’s a terrible feeling, but telling them and apologizing will go far! Esp as you are such a lovely person (and you always smell so good). I do have to thank you for the turtle comment – best laugh I’ve had lately. xox
Consistently smelling good MUST help!
Hehehe oh gosh, thank you, springpansy. I so appreciate that, and your assurances that I will get through my mistakes!
That is the worst feeling. I’ve made two big mistakes in my career and in both cases the higher-ups were not at all understanding or accepting. I didn’t get fired in either case, but I definitely wanted to crawl into a hole and die.
Ooooof. I hope my higher-ups are more understanding and accepting. This isn’t a fireable-sized mistake, but I do hope to avoid a stern talking-to and criticism in front of the team.
You’re not stupid.
Thank you for that, lillyjo <3
Oh Koyel, I’m so sorry that happened! I understand wishing to be a turtle, we’ve all been there and made those mistakes. I don’t think you are stupid, and in making your presentation, I hope the boss and team are forgiving and can move forward. It’s how we respond to mistakes that is telling of our character and I get the impression you will make things right and the team will see how genuinely upset you are.
Please don’t be too hard on yourself – I hope the meeting, and the rest of this week go smoother. ((HUGS))
Thank you, SmokeyToes, my meeting is in 15 minutes, so it’s nearly time to face the music. I hope they feel that way too, and thanks for the kind words and hugs!
Yes, that’s just what I was thinking. SmokeyToes phrased it so well. Added *hugs* from me.
Soldier through it and carry on, we all make mistakes and your bosses may have made worse ones than you.
Hahaha I will have to keep that in mind and hope you’re right. Thank you for your support!
You GUYS! You are the BEST! Thank you so much for your comments and for making me feel better about this <3
Whatever happens, whether they are understanding or not, don’t forget that you will get past it, and 10 years from now it will almost certainly be of little import to your current situation. So don’t spend too long beating yourself up!
I’ve got to say, of all of the wonderful comments and support I’ve gotten here, this is the best. I do try to remember that, but it’s so easy to forget. So thanks for the reminder!
They know your usual quality of work by now,and I mean…Covid.
Hang in there,I am sure it will be fine!
Whatever happens,you always have perfume.
And NST.
XO
Thank you, johanob <3 It is so nice to remind myself that I will always have perfume and NST 🙂
Everyone makes mistakes, and unfortunately some of them are mortifying, to boot. How you deal with it is far more important.
True, and such an important thing to remember. Thanks for the reminder!
I really hate making mistakes too but we are all human and your co-workers/bosses have made them too. As Mr. Turechek, my high school algebra teacher, used to warmly tell the class…”we are all imperfect units”. 🙂 And that is ok. Big hugs to you.
Hehehe I love that. Thank you for sharing, and for the hugs 🙂
I hope the meeting went well. Remember, some of the most useful inventions went on to become bestsellers!
Thank you! It did go well! The short version is, everyone was shockingly supportive and didn’t dwell on it at all 🙂
How did the meeting go?
I am wondering, too!
I’ll just copy-paste what I typed to SmokeyToes: Everything worked out fine! I told my boss and my boss’s boss, and they were just like, Glad you figured it out! Now we can move forward! And I told the teamful of people and they were just like, Great, thanks for letting us know! No one was upset with me, not even the people whose time I wasted. Such a relief!
Oh thank goodness! That’s such a relief to hear. 😀
Thank you for asking–everything worked out fine! I told my boss and my boss’s boss, and they were just like, Glad you figured it out! Now we can move forward! And I told the teamful of people and they were just like, Great, thanks for letting us know! No one was upset with me, not even the people whose time I wasted. Such a relief!
I’m in Dame Earth Mother today, really bonding with this one! I forgot about the cp completely, but I have a few to wear this week. Most are cold weather appropriate, so I hope they bloom in the heat.
I saw something so cute on my morning walk yesterday. A brother and sister were riding their bikes, and the girl was practicing her ‘hands free’ riding skills. She was seeing how much she could veer and still keep her balance. Brought back memories. ❤️?❤️
I really wish I would have grabbed a travel spray of the Earth Mother EdP when Dame still had them.
I know, right? A lot of folks will agree with us on this. ?
Monday!
1) It is still a smokey, acid grey with tinges of orange. Businesses are closed due to the air quality. I am running the kitchen & bathroom fans in addition to the miniduct to circulate & filter out the air inside. Many thanks to my housemate for suggesting this!
1a) I went to HomeDepot to see if they had any extra filters and ….nope.
2) SOTD: Le Lion by Chanel, from fairy godmother Hajusuuri. If you ever layered Cuir de Russie with Coromandel, then lightened it with a drop of vanilla, this is what you would get. This is a lovely, lovely scent that melds right into the skin and envelopes you gently- and that is with just a spray on each wrist. Perfect sweater weather scent or I can see wearing this in high altitude summer. Or after yoga, or making a supermarket run. Worth the high price Chanel will ask for this exclusif, I am sure.
3) All I know is, Hajusuuri should be given a commission for sending Chanel so many customers!
Your take on Le Lion matches mine. I got patchouli & leather; then patchouli & vanilla, with a hint of citrus. It’s very persistent, too.
Yes! And yes to persistent- I did some stretching – not enough to sweat, but pretty strenuous- and Le Lion is still with me.
LOL. I’m glad you enjoy it!
I really, really do! Thank you so very much!
Yes! Especially to #3!
I did 5 sprays for the second wear and it was different- still gorgeous but more leather this time. It is just irresistible. I think I am in love. I’ve very little experience with Coromandel but I will find some in order to appreciate both perfumes.
This could be my one luxury treat. It will be a long wait for this one to arrive stateside.
If you can, treat yourself to this! I think it is beautiful, as much as Bois des Iles and just was wearable, in almost every occasion.
Thank you Ede97005, you have an enabler pin!
Monday! The air quality is a little better — I can see partway across the canyon — hoping for more improvement tomorrow.
Sampling today. One of my many retirement projects is to get thru the accumulated samples. I refuse to count how many there are. (I do know it’s not the biggest pile I’ve ever had, but it’s pretty big, still.)
Have to call Saks soon about my missing perfume. I did finally defeat the phone tree and get a human; they verified that the perfume was supposed to have been sent (it’s not just delayed); and ‘opened a case’. Now I have to call back today to find out what the outcome will be. So, why do *I* have to call *them*???? Still not impressed with Saks customer service, to say the least.
Geeesh! You are SO RIGHT- it’s their responsibility.
SOTD is Etra, by Etro. It’s a fresh and spicy wood concoction, which suits me down to the ground today.
Micallef Gaiac with a dash of Hermes Poivre Samarcande. Just because. It’s Monday and smoky.
♥ you all.
That sounds like a nice combo! Hugs to you too.
?❤???????
Fun sneakers! Not my style but I do appreciate all the variety of sneakers these days.
SOTD: Carnal Flower
Smelling wonderful today!
I don’t even wear sneakers, but agree they look fun!
Fleurs d’Oranger by Uncle Serge this morning. the weather people are saying we’re going to have a long fall, which hopefully will turn out to be true.
Fingers crossed for a long fall and early spring!
Oh YUM❣️
A nice stretch of temperate weather would be GREAT. ???
Wearing Dior Addict for this smoky day!
Looking for recommendations from you eyeglass wearers! My large microfibre cloth leaves streaks all over my lenses even though it’s a clean cloth. I like the mini one I got when I got my new glasses (it seems to be thin) but it’s too small; and they didn’t have large ones for purchase there. Does anyone have a microfibre cloth that you like that can be purchased on Amazon?
Smelling great Gail!
Thanks lillyjo!
Wish I could help with the microfiber cloth recommendation. I have 2 small ones that work great for me. I haven’t seen any large ones I would use, for fear of scratching my lenses.
Thanks Jalapeno, I”m hoping to have stumbled onto a cloth that looks like it should be good.
Everything seems to be a holy-grail lately; I tried at a couple stores this past weekend and there was nothing!
SOTD = Scents of Wood L’Ame du Bois Scent #2
I couldn’t quite determine what did not feel right to me this morning and then BOOM, no perfume! But I remedied that really quickly.
As much as this one is nice (milky wood, spice, peppery, incense), I still prefer the bolder, amber-vanilla Scent #2.

In other news, yesterday, I also posted sunny and colorful Adirondack chairs and tables to lift all our spirits.

Now back to work!
I love Adirondack chairs. 🙂 Especially in cheerful colors.
They make me happy every time I see them!
That pic of the Adirondack chairs was definitely a pick me up! Thank you.
You’re welcome. i was hoping for an all green setup but none of them were monochromatic.
SotD some MFK APOM pour Femme. Although the opening still feels abrasive to me it’s SO NICE after it calms down.
4pm Zoom meeting scheduled with my quasi-boss for a project I’ve been helping with since last fall on and off.
I am really not looking forward to it… I’m trying to help organize a production and process which was massively disorganized even before COVID, and I definitely feel like throwing in the towel sometimes, but I’m trying to stick it out and figure out how to help them change their habits for the better.
Oh please do let us know how it turned out!
Not as bad as expected actually. I was anticipating stuff like “it would be nice if we could have a space to rehearse for free” which she DID actually email me at one point – but we actually were able to focus on real life and acknowledged that budgets were necessary ?
SOTD is Narciso white cube. I do consider this a soft spot scent in that when it came out, I was intrigued by the reviews. So, I sniffed it at Bloomies. Narciso was going to be there in a few days and would autograph bottles. That appealed to me, but I didn’t like the scent. I didn’t get creamy, I thought it was harsh.
Fast forward a year to an airport duty free shop. I tried it again and immediately found the creaminess. Bought a small bottle soon thereafter. Still quite love it, but I don’t wear it that often. It just amuses me that I did a full 180 turn.
I have done that more than once! And I should wear Narciso tomorrow.
SOTD is Ummagumma for a chilly, foggy/smoky day.
Sandflowers for my last workday and a warm and sunny day too. Now I am hoping that we can go to France on Sunday. Maybe the Burgundy region will not be classified a risk region until then….
Hope you can go! I miss France.
Still smoky today. SOTD is Cool Tropic Palm by Comptoir Sud Pacifique – something light and refreshing. I normally don’t care for melon in perfumes. It’s the mahogany, teak wood and white musk dry down in this scent that I love.
Had a lovely restful weekend, I’m reading The Shadow Of the Wind, by Carlos R. Zafon, it’s beautifully done and I’ve been up until 1pm all weekend reading it.
I found a recipe for my favorite Thai coconut curry soup, Chicken Khao Soi. I’ll take a stab at making it tonight for supper. The recipe is below. I hope everyone has a lovely week! 🙂

Mmmm, that recipe looks good, and pretty easy, too. Let us know how it turned out, if you don’t mind! ?
It turned out very well! The hubby, who isn’t a fan of soups, even had a second helping.
Second helpings are always telling. ? Thanks for the feedback! I’ll give this a try.
Tasty and easy are some of my favorite things in a recipe! ?
Unwittingly participating in the CP–AND thunked my decant. Wondering if my soft spot for this one will bubble-up into a full on bottle purchase. . . Habanita. To me it is the DNA antecedent of the modern cigarette vibes in Jasmin et Cigrette and Ella (Arquiste). Must say something that I blithely chose a smoky scent! No blue skies, but at least I see greyish mass behind the trees across the glen!
It’s irresistible ! You smell fabulous.
Apparently so. Just bought myself an older edition, an edt, off eBay. I think you get an enabler pen. This one is so long-lasting as well. I feel totally va-va-voom many hours later. 🙂
Congratulations! I am so happy for you!
I am there often searching myself! ?
Late to the party! Busy weekend at home and busy Monday with several work meetings.
Wearing ELDO Jasmin et Cigarette.
Happy Monday, everyone!
Oh niiiiice!A favorite from the ELDO brand!
Happy late Monday!XO
One of my favorites from ELDO too!
House twins today! Cool!
I love Fat Electrician! I finished my bottle last month and I think I need a replacement soon!
It’s a bummer that Sephora quit carrying ELdO a while back.
It is! I used to get my ELDO bottles from Sephora. I have now to check at the discounters or wait for ELDO’s Black Friday sale.
Smelling great! That’s such a fun scent.
Thank you, Gail! It is always enjoyable to wear it!
You are hitting our household greatest ELDO hits–I love Jasmin et Cigarette, and my older son love Fat Electrician. The other bottle I own is You or Someone Like You. I only have a decant, but have placed in various online perfume purveyor carts Eau de Protection as well. Maybe if I come across it on sale. . .
I am also waiting for the next sale on the ELDOs and see if I also pull the trigger on a full bottle of You or Someone Like You. It is so refreshing and another big favorite of mine for summer!
I’m in Chamade today as it was the first day of school for my children after 6 months without school here in Spain. Everything is so different but they were happy!
Good luck to them and to you!
Thank you sweetie!
Chamade seems like an appropriate first day of school perfume for you. Are your kids taking their classes online or in person? I hope they had a terrific day, either way.
Classes are in person, I hope it lasts!
You smell fabulous – happy for you all for returning to school!
Fairly late to the party,it is 22:57 pm here,I need to get some sleep.
I know depression is not a joyride, and anyone suffering at the moment,I get you…
I need to ride out this current wave, but sometimes I just think what the…can it just be over with?
Thank goodness for a sensible sense of humor.
I had a chance this afternoon to sort out some perfumes, seeing my stash everywhere was both satisfying and overwhelming…lol.Too much?Maybe.
The joy it still gives me remains priceless.
Felt fresh in Paco all day.
Chins up.
Love and light.
XO
The shoes in the pic today:I WANT THEM ALL!!!!!
✌?
One more comment then I’ll leave you in peace…
Fun fact about my SOTD Paco:It was a gift from a wonderful surgeon I worked with.I used to bring 5/6 cds as soundtrack to surgery to work, and she loved my music and asked me to make her a “mixtape”,or 2…or 3.Lol.I ended up making 6 “mixtapes” on cd,and in return she gifted me Paco and the biggest stash of Ferrero Rocher chocolates I ever received. So cool.??✌?
Ferrero Rocher chocolates! ??. I will grab 2 from my “stash” right away!
I’m with you on having a good sense of humor. It’s been hard to laugh lately, but I try to find something.
Sometimes rolling with the punches is the hardest thing to do, even if it is the right thing to do. Been there. Hugs.
I’m LOVING those shoes! I had a pair of Vans one year in high school, the classic black and white checkerboard slip-ons. Fond memories. ?
More temperate and sunny weather here. It’s done wonders for my state of mind. I’d love to share some of it with the West Coast. But it looks like there’s a chance of “hurricane leftovers” here towards the end of the week. ???
SOTD = back in ELdO Fat Electrician. I seem to be on a bit of a vetiver kick right now.
You had Spicoli shoes!
Abso-freaking-lutely! And I was crazy enough to wear them year round, even in the snow.
Vetiver, just in time from transitional weather!
I haven’t been wearing any fragrance today, I have thought about it but was like “nah”… I had so much work to do, replacing our AC unit and cleaning. But I am the happiest person ever because a fresh, new bottle of my Sticky Cake is on they way!! Can’t wait for my package to arrive. Also I would like to order more bottles of Nomad Tea and Sticky Cake just to stock up. I don’t ever want to be in a situation where I can’t find them anywhere should they discontinue them again.
Congrats!
It’s so late it’s almost Tuesday! My SOTD: Gucci Guilty. Nice little patchouli number.
It really is almost Tuesday!
Classes are in person, I hope it lasts!
