Guerlain Iris Torrefie ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 24 August 2020 26 Comments

Guerlain has launched Iris Torréfié, the latest addition to their L’Art et la Matière collection.

An incredibly noble material, majestic iris blossoms in this new chapter of L’Art & La Matière. An extraordinary, explosive encounter between full-bodied flavour and subtle softness, as smooth and powdery iris Pallida meets powerful coffee in a clash of olfactory forces.

Delphine Jelk wanted to “make the iris smile and allow it to display its vibrant energy”, like the tête-à-tête of fragrances that occurs when the cosmetic scent of lipstick meets a steaming-hot cup of coffee.

The coffee-coloured perfume is housed in a bottle with sleek, modern contours, adorned with a golden metal panel on the edge, just like a precious hardback book. The bottle is nestled within a “leather-feel” amethyst case (that can be turned into a jewellery box as you wish).

Additional notes include bergamot, cardamom, ambrette, opopanine, vanilla and sandalwood.

Guerlain Iris Torréfié is available in 75 ml Eau de Parfum.

Could be. Doubt I will pay for it anyway, and certainly not in 75 ml.

I still want Cuir Beluga. I’m perfectly able to see that is not a masterpiece but it’s got that Guerlain loveliness that makes me swoon.
I won’t be getting either anytime soon. Moving internationally is costing me a pretty penny ?

I don’t think I have a local Guerlain counter anymore, but not sure since it is so long since I’ve been to the mall.

Ooh, another Iris. Yummy, I hope it is good. I have more bottles of Guerlain than any other perfume house. Wouldn’t mind adding another. I need more iris perfumes. :-)

Guessing it is some version of opoponax.

Oh, that sounds interesting. Do I need any more iris perfumes? Of course not – but if it turns out to be irresistible then perhaps it can count as a coffee perfume a much much smaller category over here.

Just my thoughts… I hope the coffee note is subtle as i can picture that killing the iris

If it is sweet and not too lipsticky, it has my name in it!

Hmmmm, I don’t remember seeing this Saturday at Bergdorf’s. Wish I’d asked. I have to head over near Saks soon…maybe I’ll stop in there.

Was able to smell this today in a visit to the Guerlain counter in London. It’s being released tomorrow but they had the tester ready at the back and they were very kind to spray me! It’s not sweet/ lipsticky but got a carrot-type iris and a complimenting bitter note that I guess is the coffee, then leather added going towards dry down. A bit of vanilla but not much. The iris was the most prominent to me and overall effect reminded me of Xerjoff Irisss (though I smelled this a long time ago). Really liked it!

I just bought this, like Cicely says it is not sweet or lipsticky, does not resemble Iris Ganache. It is dry, subtle and elegant with the iris and coffee notes.

Finally tried this today and was sadly underwhelmed. It smells like a fizzy Dior Homme (the original) but not as voluptuous. I’d happily wear the Dior Homme any day especially given the price Guerlain is wanting for this. It’s an otherwise decent enough fragrance but I was expecting more.
