It's Monday and Watermelon Day. A very happy 94th birthday to Tony Bennett! What fragrance are you wearing?
Probably my favorite Tony Bennett song is a version of Days of Wine and Roses, from the album he made with jazz pianist Bill Evans. That's a 1962 Mancini / Mercer song for a movie I never saw (and I don't know who sang it for the movie), and it's admittedly too sappy to match a perfume to this morning, but I've included it below anyway, and since it would go nicely with one of the classic Guerlains, I've just updated the feeling a bit with Cologne du 68.
Reminder: 8/7 we're doing Playlist Friday, again...name a favorite song, and wear a perfume that fits the song. (We did this project twice in 2017.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

And Tony Bennett and Bill Evans doing When in Rome on Johnny Carson in 1975. This clip is taken from a documentary...the Carson appearance starts at about 1 minute in.
Woo hoo, my favorite cp ever! I could do this all month. I’m going literal today and pairing Kyoto with The Cure’s Kyoto Song.
It got really cool last night, almost felt like the season that I’m not ready for. Driving to get madtownteen today. She’s been with my parents for the last two weeks and she and my mom have been sewing her first ever quilt for her bed. She sent me a picture last night and it looks great. While she’s been gone her room has been transformed. No more pink walls and bunk beds. She’ll be starting high school this fall and was ready for a change. We’re meeting at the half way point for a picnic lunch.?
Exciting changes for your daughter! Enjoy the picnic. ?????
Thank lillyjo!???
I mean thanks with an S?
Oh all of that sounds so wonderful for your daughter! The transition to high school represented by a more adult environment for her–very cool!
Yes, our next step is a trip to ikea for a desk some fun new stuff to decorate her room. She’ll be spending a lot of time in her room this fall, I want her to really enjoy hanging out in it.
I am so glad, it’s one of my favorite CPs too. Not everyone likes it IIRC, so apologies to that cohort
I’ve been looking forward to it’s return!??
Robin, it’s totally Bob Dylan time!
I was going to try to do artists I haven’t already done, but yeah, maybe one of the new songs.
Yay for cool nights and enjoy your picnic.
Thanks She-ra! I’ll take the cool nights, I just am not ready for fall yet.☹️
That all sounds so nice, enjoy
Thanks ringthing! It was!?
It sounds like a great day! Enjoy!
Thanks pl67!?
Good Morning NST friends and Happy Monday. My SOTD is Gucci Bloom by Gucci. A very pleasant scent that is definitely season appropriate. Have a good Day!?
You smell wonderful! Have a great day!
Shalimar Cologne. Love! ❤
Could you describe a bit? I’m so Curious about this vs the Eau de Cologne I got. Which I’ve been wearing daily….
The cologne is very citrusy is the opening. You get a blast of lemon. Then is mostly vanilla and is less powdery and much lighter than the EdT. I get some orris during the development, but is not very noticeable.
Thanks!
Oh you smell wonderful. A forever favorite.
Thank you! ?
I sprayed on Beach Walk, so the song that came to mind was Girl From Ipanema.
Heading out to post office. Bought a small onesie some time back and never gifted it. So…I realized a friend in CA’s first granddaughter might like it. Silkscreen print of a raccoon, with “Wild About New York” written below.
We seem to be having some very nice weather before the tropical storm hits tonight/tomorrow.
Taking our little old lady to the vet today. Cement butt problem seems to be solved with change in litter, but we should make sure she’s okay down there.
I have not looked to see how bad the storm will be here, I probably should. Ugh.
Good luck at the vet!
I hope that your old lady cat had a good check up at the vet.
Thanks so much. It turned out to be the kind of visit where she didn’t come home. Very sad day here. We had her 18.5 years.
Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that. A beloved pet’s last vet first is such a difficult occasion. My sympathies, and hugs. ?
Thanks Jalapeno. I appreciate it.
Oh LizzieB. I am so sorry! She had a good long wonderful life. Hugs hugs
I’m so sorry, Lizzie. She was loved.
Oh no, I’m so very sorry. Sending you hugs.
I’m so sorry.
Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that.
My condolences, and very fragrant hugs to you. ??
Oh no. I am so sorry. Hugs!!
SSS Winter Woods for me. I know it sounds wrong in August but it’s wonderful. And keep in mind, this is Seattle, so not steamy hot. I don’t know what to pair it with, so I’m going to pair it with one of my favorite songs ever: Bring It on Home to Me (Sam Cooke) although I also like the version by The Animals.
I became extremely stressed/depressed yesterday over COVID and the constant fear and the difficulties and the narrowness of life (and probably also somewhat due to working on my mom’s memorial service) and although I love the people in my house, we are together. every. minute. So I went out for a walk by myself. I walked. And walked. 20,000 steps! And when I came home, I did some gardening. I just couldn’t go inside despite the housework waiting. One of our sons made the entire dinner and invited his girlfriend. We ate outside, played cornhole and laughed (wore masks the few times we were inside) and I feel much better today.
I’m so glad you were able to take the time to walk and garden yesterday! These are absurd times, and we’re all improvising.
I get outside to walk or jog pretty much every day. I think I miss maybe 2 days out of each month. I NEED it. I need to see the outside, to get some sun in my eyes, to interact with other people, even if it’s just to walk down the center of the road to avoid them! I always feel better afterwards.
Hugs! ❤️
Thanks and I agree about walking. I do usually walk about 3 miles per day, just not quite this much! The worst time I had was at the beginning of “The Pause” when I had ankle tendinitis and couldn’t walk. I REALLY need it!
Oh, that would be terrible! I’m glad your ankle is good again. I’m trying to figure out what my walks will look like when the weather inevitably turns again. I have no optimism that I will have indoor options for getting out regularly, so I’m considering my old raincoat, and whether it might not live up to the task!
This is one of the reasons I started “running” again first thing in the morning at the beginning of July. I need it. I pass other people occasionally along the path I take and sometimes I even get a smile or “good morning” from people and I realize how much I miss smiles.?
I’m glad that running is helping with that at least a little! It’s funny–I think I make less eye contact than I used to when I’m out. I’m from a small beach town, lots of retirees and a few families like mine. Everyone would pass and say “hello” or “good morning.” I still do that, or did that, even after decades of life in the city, and it makes me/made me different. I think now, it is somehow harder. If I’m looking at you, it’s to make sure one of us is going to give the other a little more space as we pass by. I do try to smile, but I think maybe I’m doing it less than I used to.
SpringPansey – ((HUGS)) to you. So much uncertainty, it is difficult to deal with.
Laughter and a great walk cleans the cobwebs out and lifts the spirits!
I love SSS Winter Woods, at any time of year.
As an aside, which version of Fendi is your favorite?
Yay for walks! I’ve been noticing all your great walking as well.
I wore Fendi when it came out (mid-80s)? I don’t remember the version, but it looked like the bottle on Fragrantica, so likely the EDP. That was back when it never occurred to me that things could change and they might reformulate or stop making my favorite perfume!
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Fendi/Fendi-200.html
Sorry you have been so stressed…and props to your son for making dinner, that’s a lovely end to a difficult day.
So sorry you are having a hard time. The walk sounds perfect (may I borrow 10,000 steps please?) and cheers to your son for pitching in.
Thanks, all. In re-reading this, I think it sounds like I’m complaining and depressed (and yes, sometimes it’s all just too much) but overall it was supposed to be about how much the walking and dinner helped! I’m doing well today.
I’m glad you are feeling better today!
Glad you’re feeling better. Walking keeps me mostly sane.
I love that song too, especially the Animals version.
I’m glad you were able to find some relief and even enjoyment and pleasure yesterday. Big hugs to you, D.
Sending hugs and peace!
Those are such strange times, how lovely of your son to have prepared dinner.
Sorry to learn that you are working on a memorial service for your mother.
Everyone has at least of bouts of depression these days. I always try to remember Tony Kushner’s lines from the closing scene of Angels in America (now called Part One):
“This disease will be the end of many of us, but not nearly all. And the dead will be commemorated, and we’ll struggle on with the living, and we are not going away. We won’t die secret deaths anymore. The world only spins forward. We will be citizens. The time has come.”
I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been down and I hope the cloud lifts this week.
Glad you’re feeling better today! I totally understand loving family but not loving every minute together. I mentioned that recently too.
Also, I am very sorry about your mom. Sending my condolences.
Hugs, springpansy. I’m relieved to hear that you are feeling better today.
Good job prioritizing yourself and your mental health! I’m glad the end of the day pulled itself together and turned into something lovely.
Oh.. is it playlist friday this week? I hadn’t noticed ?
Sotd is TF Metallique. I’m matching it to the song Heavy Metal by Don Felder. They both have heavy sounding names, but in truth are pretty light and inoffensive. I like both.
https://youtu.be/2Mp8AudqJAw
???I’ve been looking forward to playlist Friday too. Maybe a little too much, I had a dream last night that I got up and checked NST this morning and it wasn’t the cp!??
Sounds more like a nightmare ?
I’ve been looking forward to this for a month!
Hah! I *love* that soundtrack, and have it on CD! Probably also have it on cassette somewhere, too.
I prefer Sammy Hagars Heavy Metal but couldn’t think of a perfume match.
Both versions are on the soundtrack to the movie, and Sammy Hagar’s version is the first song. I can’t think of a perfume for it either, since I associate the Hagar song with the smell of movie theater popcorn. (And there’s no popcorn emoji, either. Hmph!)
I bet you could do this for two months and still have plenty of songs left over.
I would need more perfume though!?
Good morning all! I am wearing Parfums DelRae Panache and enjoying it. I’ve just sprayed it on and so far am in the fresh sweet bergamot first stage of it. I’m so glad I have a bottle of this now discontinued scent (and line) My agenda today is to write my next essay for my memoir-writing class. It’s kind of mapped out in my head but I have to get it down. To complement last week’s story about my maternal grandmother and her three sisters I will have a story about my paternal grandfather and his three brothers. I’ve got a great family photo in each case and it adds some zest (panache?) to the tale. (But I don’t have a song for Panache, alas. This is a CP that just does not come to me naturally, as the visual ones do.)
I thought maybe I was the only one here who wears Panache. I can never decide about it. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I don’t. But you can’t get it anymore, so I’ve held on to it.
By now it is at a stage where it is a more soft, sweet, musky scent. People seem to find the ambrette offensive but I don’t. If anything to me this is perhaps a bit too innocuous. But I do like it. Yesterday I was wearing Debut and thought “Why not do another DelRae today?”
Yay for DelRae. I hope she’ll come back into perfume somehow.
Were your ancestors born in America or immigrants? Isn’t it cool that your family members mirror each other (gender-wise). I hope your writing goes well.
All my ancestors came here in the late 1700’s.
So cool that you are writing family history down! Those stories are a treasure.
Memo Winter Palace. As for matching a SOTD to a song, I have nothing for you. I would probably pair it with something bright and hopeful, but it feels like that some part of my brain fails to function today. I hope I will come up with some ideas tomorrow.
So, confession time–I don’t listen to music. Hardly ever on purpose. My reasoning/excuse is that my family is VERY musical (as in, my brother is an opera singer, my dad is a songwriter and plays half a dozen instruments and my mom used to be on the board of a musical theater company).
In high school, I became the black sheep and left music and theater behind to focus on science. I’ve got a good ear, and maybe if I’d kept at it, an adequate singing voice, but I can’t casually listen to music–it totally distracts me from everything else. And when in my life can I just sit still and listen to music?! So, now the only music I listen to is pop tunes while I’m jogging. And my ipod playlist has been exactly the same for about 5 years.
So, this is my longwinded way of saying I’m likely not participating in the CP this week! Oh well. (I know, Robin, not required!)
SO, today, when I get around to it, I think I’ll wear Traversee du Bosphore. I wore it yesterday, layered over some BG body cream, and I smelled delicious. I will be busy in the kitchen today. I want to bake blackberry hand pies for a picnic tomorrow with my sweetie, and I have a flat of blueberries I want to preserve. Food/sweets smells all around!
Here’s my brother performing in a project he and his girlfriend started during the pandemic.

This is really good!
Yeah. I’m a proud sister.
How beautiful! This made my day.
Oof…. There’s something in my eye…..
I’d offer you a hanky, but that seems weirdly sinister in the days of COVID.
They done good. Love it!
Beautiful!!
I am exactly the same way about listening to music. I am a musician by profession, so I hear myself practice for several hours every day (and I am a brass player, so it is LOUD). I listen to music to analyze and prepare it for performance. Obviously I love it, or this wouldn’t be my career, but I rarely have the desire to listen in my free time. What I’m trying to say is if you were looking for some back up for your reasoning, I think it’s completely sound!
As far as SOTD goes, I am trying out a sample of Bottega Veneta Knot. Still trying to work out how I feel about various florals, as I am fairly new to exploring perfumes.
Oh, I find that so reassuring! Thank you for sharing!
Come to think on it, that’s how I am with science, too. I’m a science teacher, and I can spend endless hours learning about something so I can better teach it to my kids. At the end of the day, no science. It’s not my hobby, it’s my job.
It’s been a while since I smelled Knot, but I remember thinking it was pretty. Don’t recall anything specific about its notes, though.
Knot is pretty. I have a limited frame of reference, but it seems similar-ish to the Narciso Rodriguez for her EDP in my experience. The internet tells me they have rose and musk (I think I like both of these things) in common, but that Knot has citrus, orange blossom, and peony, which comes across as brighter, more floral, and cleaner to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Marjorie Rose, I saw your question about the raspberry emoji rather late yesterday, so I’ll reply here. I keep hoping to see the actual fruit. I think it would be so cute!
Yes, I suspected that’s what you meant! Raspberries are very cute. ???? The best we’ve got. . .
Actually, the food selection in emojis kinda cracks me up–it’s clearly influenced by specific cultural perspectives on “common” foods.
I’m the same way but don’t even have a solid reasoning – like you, I just can’t focus on other tasks while music I’ve chosen is on (other people’s music I can tune out pretty well).
No surprise here:

Major rain and storms here which does not sit well with T-Rex, who is currently trying to find a way to fit under the couch…⛈
?The B-52’s were just really ahead of their time weren’t they? I mean Rock Lobster, who comes up with stuff like that?!
SOTD is Wrappings by Clinique – the ozone, spicy-green lavender, and zippy aldehydes called to me.
I’m headed out in a little bit to get my Covid-19 test, mandatory prior to any hospital visit (my ERCP at UCSF is on Friday 8/7).
I thunked a bottle of Halston Catalyst last night – good lord this is one beautiful fragrance! Ambery-warm, powdery floral, with tuberose and iris. A powerhouse but my sheets this morning smelled marvelous.
My favorite Tony Bennett duo is with Amy Winehouse, Body and Soul.
https://youtu.be/_OFMkCeP6ok
Good luck getting your test.
Thanks She-ra!
The testing center is run by UCSF – it was a piece of cake, in and out in five minutes, I’ll have my results tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
When I was in UCSF for surgery back in May, it was the same. Organized, straight forward, and quick.
Yay! My brother works for UCSF in Radiology/Oncology…he does IT stuff. UCSF is wonderfully run.??
Oh how cool is that! Yes, I am very fortunate that I can go to UCSF, really great folks over there.
I’m in the Radiology department (3rd floor) for my ERCP procedures every two months with Dr. James Ostroff.
I will be there on Friday 8/7 with bells on!
It’s a great med school too and so worth the $s. My brother went there.
My son is having surgery (very minor–no overnight) on Thursday, so I’m taking him to be tested this afternoon as well. Oish.
Hi Oakland Fresca!
Wishing your son all the best for a successful and pain-free surgery and complete recovery!
Best of luck with the ERCP on Friday. You smell great today!
Good luck with both your test results and your procedure on Friday.
THAT was a cool video. I hadn’t seen it, thank you!!
Monday luxury – wearing Hiram Green Vivacious.
This is so. damn. good.
I have enough in the sample to wear it one more time.
Will want moooaaar!
So, when are you gonna make that happen, lucasai?
Knowing how fast I usually am… it will take a while
? Either I’m super deliberate, wait for the Mother’s Day sale, consider “is this the time?” etc, etc, OR I jump the gun and just decide I “need” something right away.
It is amazing isn’t it! Such a beautiful violet ❤️❤️ I could not stop wearing it either and it’s become my favourite Hiram Green.
Today I am wearing Guerlain Angelique Noire (unique herbal spicy vanilla).
Yes indeed!
Next to Arbole it’s my 2nd favorite.
Vivacious is really beautiful. You smell great!
Watermelon day. I hate melon, all melon yuck. the smell is enough for me to have to leave the table.
So I didn’t have my glasses on yesterday and tried a sample of The Harmonist Guiding Waters. Went to get groceries and there I was by the English muffins thinking, wow I smell great! Came home and looked up Guiding Waters. Top note, watermelon. what? how? hmmm.
This is like no melon at the store.
It’s beautiful.
SmokeyToes, I watched Tony Bennet and Amy Winehouse the other night. wonderful. and sad.
That’s funny, I also dislike watermelon, but a local restaurant that alas is no more used to serve a watermelon gazpacho in the summer that was just to die for. I’ve tried replicating it many times with some luck but nothing that is quite as rich and tangy. I think I actually prefer it to regular gazpacho.
Ohhh, a watermelon gazpacho sounds delicious!
It sounds strange, but I love watermelon with salt on it.
I was about to express my dislike for watermelon in perfumes and it turns out I have several with watermelon or melon, J’ Adore, Escada Into the Blue, Cool Water Wave, New West, and Cool Tropic Palm by Comptoir Sud Pacifique (canteloupe).
I hate all melon EXCEPT watermelon.
When I lived in Iran every said, well you will love Persian melons.
Nope. None.
LOL on your perfume story!
I love their duet together – her voice with Tony’s works beautifully.
Despite her faults, she really was a gifted, fragile soul who was taken from us far too soon.
So young.
Taking a few first tentative steps back into the world today after a weekend of post-op bed rest. I’m in Azemour because it makes the world feel new and warm and relaxed. Hoping I can be more present and playful with my son today, since the past few days have been hard on my little mama’s boy.
Good luck with your little boy, and you smell mahhhvelous!
Hope you feel better and recover quickly.
Best of luck with healing. I hope you can play a little today!
Wishing you a great convalescence.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Hi Isabella. I hope you start feeling stronger soon and you can get back to your son
Hoping you feel better soon!
Fingers crossed that you are back to feeling like yourself ASAP,
Wishing you some quality mom/son time soon!
I hope you make a pain-free recovery! I bet your son is so happy to have you home!
About to head out and go to the zoo today. Woke up in vintage no 5 extrait this morning. I find the vintage no 5 extrait really skanky. Now I am in Coco Mademoiselle.
I think you could get away with skanky at the zoo!
good one!
Enjoy the zoo.
I was thinking this might be another CP that I’d have to take a pass on, but then I had an epiphany – since I’ve been working from home, I have a jazz station on in the background (internet radio) all day long, and every day is “wear as much of whatever perfume I want” day (and I DO), so my pairing for the entire week will be scents that blend with jazz. Which is pretty much every scent I own, in some fashion. Today I’m in Costes EDP, a very sexy, smooth-jazz kind of scent. Happy Monday everyone!
Costes and jazz are a perfect pairing!
Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay. This one has become one of my favorites, and I didn’t care for it when it first came out.
Days of Wine & Roses is a beautiful song. Whenever my parents, who are 79 and 80 years old come over, I make a playlist of music that they like. I usually play the music during dinner and afterwards. Days of Wine & Roses is one song that they both like. My Dad has dementia, but he sure remembers his music. Usually by the first few notes, he can identify the whatever song is playing. It soothes him to hear his music and gives my Mom a break so she can visit with us, without my Dad asking to go home, where he is more comfortable.
Have you heard about the documentary by Michael Rossato-Bennett called Alive Inside? It “chronicles the astonishing experiences of individuals around the country whose minds have been revitalized and awakened by the simple act of listening to the music of their youth”
I am going to look for this because of my mother. She is very much alive when listening to or singing music and often remembers lots of lyrics to songs and hymns even though in other respects her memory is pretty poor.
Thank you. I will look that up and maybe watch it tonight.
Making those playlists – such a sweet thing for you to do for them.
Thank you. I enjoy listening to the music with them.
Oh, love that, thanks for telling us.
Memoire D Une Odeur today. Funnily the song that comes to my mind is Bryan Ferry singing Smoke gets in your eyes. Don’t know why my mind works this way… Love Bryan Ferry anyway.
I love Bryan Ferry. I loved Roxy Music. I think I will listen to Avalon right now. The first time I heard Avalon was on tiny cassette player in a hotel room in New Delhi drinking a bottle of champagne that was being chilled in a plastic trash bucket. Forever and ever this song is heat, sweat, jasmine and young love.
apsara, you have some of the best memories/stories! I love Roxy Music and remember the first time I heard Avalon too, although it reminds me of freshman year in the dorm, lol. Still have a copy on vinyl that I listen to regularly.
I have had an interesting life, mtg. Sometimes I feel like Forrest Gump, only maybe a little smarter. In interesting places at interesting times.
I plan on keeping it that way.
Such a great memory, it all fits together I a single moment
I love Brian Ferry and Roxy Music. Such great college memories listening to both!
At some point, Brian Ferry and Jerry Hall were engaged until they met up in London for dinner with Mick Jagger….
I listened to Boys and Girls, too.
I am wearing Il Profumo Vanille Bourbon and Ligne St. Barth Vanille West Indies…trying to see if I need to keep both or vote one or more off the island…haven’t worn these in while or made a real dent in either bottle.
Makes me wonder about buying FBs and like there should be a waiting period to purchase so you are forced to assess several weeks or months later if you really need more after the honeymoon period wears off. ?
A waiting period might be a good idea
A waiting period, how sensible! Unfortunately I am not sensible when it comes to perfume, lol.
Someone recently mentioned adhering to a process: try a sample, then buy and use up a decant, then decide if a FB is needed.
I’m not good at this, but probably should be.
Nancy, once you have that nailed down, show me how it works!
I have insufficient self-control for the waiting period idea as well, but agree it’s a very good idea. I’ve had far more negative experiences than positive ones with impulse purchases … but my two most recent ones have been very positive, so my learning curve has been dampened.
Sometimes I don’t even assess ?
?
And Vanille West Indies is the winner due to the magnificent dry down methinks…had forgotten how good it is…apparently I was quite right to purchase the FB afterall…
going to break out the self congratulations emoji string I googled based a comment Marjorie Rose made over the weekend…???!!!
Hahahaha good job past you!!!!
I like the idea of a waiting period. I try to stave off purchasing a FB by getting a decant. If I rip through it quickly, that’s a good indicator I’ll love it. But it’s helped narrow down the ‘wants’ vs. ‘loves’.
In Rose Opera this beautiful morning. Feeling melancholy like others. This time is hard.
The music that matches this scent is very specific in my mind. Satie’s Gymnopedie No. 1, but not on piano. My favorite version is played on classical guitar–Chris Parkening.
My mode exactly this morning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kVcEM-8ILg
That’s a great version. Our house was in deep mist all yesterday and this music would have fitted perfectly. I hope your hospital visit goes smoothly.
Also, I saw a black rabbit in the cemetery today. I was thinking about the graveyard rabbit story and thinking that the ‘graveyard’ rabbits could be like Shelley, Byron etc writing their ghost stories in their big mansion (under the Snowball grave) and the visiting ‘hillside’ rabbits could be …. haven’t got that far!
That black rabbit ought to figure in your story somehow. The timing of it showing up is too perfect.
Well you did send me down a rabbit hole. But I have come away with a different story, a love story. The great romance of of Mary and Percy (rabbits of course), which begins in St. Pancras, at the site of her mother’s gravestone. Their’s is roiled and revived for several years by a retinue of Hillside rabbits–Byron, Keats, Claire Clairmont, Polidori, and funny little fluff ball named Lake Geneva. In the end, Mary leaves the cemetery behind, and sets out on her own rambles, a shard of crockery and the ossified top of an old carrot stick her still-constant companions.
Cabochard for the day and the start of the CP week. My perfume of the wild early 70s, when we spent weekends in Ptown dancing to disco and a lot of other music-of-the-time. It puts me in mind of Disco Inferno by the Trammps, or perhaps Shame, Shame, Shame by Shirley & Company. Good times. Ptown is not the same now, especially during the summer, not that I’m interested in getting hammered and dancing in clubs anymore ;).
Ptown! I must be a little younger than you. I have a great memory of eating out with my parents in Provincetown–we must have been on a holiday when I was in high school. A very gregarious and handsome man at the table across from us was speaking with great animation to a much younger woman. He looked up and winked at me. It was Warren Beatty.
Great memory! Norman Mailer lived there in the mid-eighties and later. I never ran into Warren Beatty, unfortunately ;). I still go to Ptown every summer – a friend has a condo there. Still beautiful, but very different.
But!!! I once ran into Norman Mailer in a cafe in Brooklyn Heights when I lived there in the late 90s. He did NOT wink at me.
I envy your Ptown holidays. We were a Nantucket family (ten days in the summer, renters only!!) but I went to college and law school in MA so escapes to the Cape or the Vineyard were always a highlight. Ptown, of course, had its own wonderful, over the top culture.
Hubs is a Nantucket/Maine person. Love Nantucket but it is so d*mn snooty in the summer!
❤️?Warren!?❤️
I would have been face down in my spaghetti.
Me too! Melted into a puddle.
Me three! I loved him sooo much! I actually snuck in to see Reds, lol
I loved Reds.
What a great memory!
I loved Ptown! We used to go every summer when I lived in MA. I have purchased-in-Ptown artwork on my walls here in CA. And my fave black leather ankle boots which I purchased there have been re-soled at least once, I can’t give them up.
I bet I know where you bought the boots!
Douceur de Siam strikes again, or rather gently wafts by.
On a whim, I bought a partial bottle of SJP Lovely on eBay (probably from someone here!) and since it just arrived, that’s what I’m wearing. Victoria on Bois de Jasmin says that Lovely has a lovely, lingering musk which sounded so good at the time. Right now it’s a gauzy, pretty citrus. I would pair it with I’m Not in Love by Air Supply.
Really enjoyed the Tony Bennett, Robin. He’s a big favorite of my mother, I’ll play this for her tomorrow.
Perfect pairing.
Glad you liked it!
Hmmm. I think Sarah Vaughan’s “Days of Wine and Roses” is great, and what’s more apt that Sarah drenched in F Malle’s Une Rose?
Nicely done! ??
I nearly always prefer Ella Fitzgerald to Sarah Vaughan, but Ella’s Days of Wine and Roses is weirdly cheerful, like she had never read the words before singing it.
The only version I know by Sarah Vaughan has annoying back singers.
The Billy Eckstine version is great.
Love the ever youthful Tony Bennett, thank you Robin.
First it was Diptyque Eau de Neroli, but now in Oriental Lumpur paired by chance with Sting’s Set them Free, great live version I listened to earlier today.
Ahh Sting. Sometimes I love him, and sometimes I’m still mad at him for going solo?
Ha, that is really holding a grudge.
Iris Nazarena again, my purchase from last week. I love it and I wish it lasted longer on me…it fades away in 3-4 hours already. Hopefully it will open up as time goes by…
You smell fantastic
Thanks!
First sniff I had from my sample vial of Iris Nazarena was lovely!
Yes, the opening is to die for!
I stink at this kind of CP, my brain just doesn’t work this way. Which is fine! That just means I get to make up my own CP. Or not. As I please
SOTD is Guerlain Royal Extract II. I had quite the drama getting this scent; the first attempt failed (missing customs paperwork, got sent back) but success on the second try. Green! Galbanum, moss, vetiver, mild woods. Very classic chypre. Pretty low projection. I like it.
3 weeks til retirement! Last weekend I put a bowl on my desk with 20 pebbles in it. One for each workday til retirement. I take one out each evening when I log off work. 15 remaining

How exciting for you! I know you’ve been counting down for some time and now it’s within reach!
Glad you finally got your Guerlain! Cute about the pebbles….have any of your cohorts asked why you have pebbles on your desk??
Well, I’m at home, they’re at home, nobody can see my pebbles but me
My company has a general culture of no video during meetings, and since I live in a fairly rural area with pretty crap internet, I would be shutting off the video anyway.
Well of course you’re at home. Silly me!
The pebbles are a secret between us NST folks
Good for you. I will email you back on the Royal Extract II!
Omg I am so happy for you and jealous for me. 2.5 years to go.
How satisfying! Congratulations. I am vicariously living thru you.
I would need a big bucket for this, still nine years and 10months to go. I hope you will make the most of your retirement, once it’s there
Wow, that Guerlain sounds right up my alley! I wonder if it’d cost me a body part??
And the count down officially begins, how exciting! Good for you?
Have you thought about which scent you’ll wear on your last day at work?
I’ve been working on organizing my spare room, and managed to put my perfume packing materials in some semblance of order. Yay!! My pointy little head loves it. ❤️?
I’m in Bvlgari au the Bleu from making a decant early this morning, and added Dame Desert Flower, which is a like but not a love. Dame love is reserved for Dark Horse and BFMV.
Gotta get to the PO, but it’s busy on Mondays, plus I’m kinda reeking at the moment.
I haven’t read comments, so I hope everyone’s Monday has been safe and uneventful!
Yay for getting some things organized!
Popping in for a quick hello and well wishes on this first Monday of August. Time is such a funny thing these days. I found out early last week that I’ll be working from home until at least October 31. They’ll reassess around then. It’s about what I expected, but it’s still weird to know I’ve got 3 more months minimum of this. I really need to find a new chair to use for work. My butt, back, shoulders, and neck can’t take much more of this setup. Luckily, I’ve made a little stand-up station at my kitchen counter, so I try to work standing for at least a couple hours a day.
Wearing Francesca Bianchi The Lover’s Tale but not in the creative mindset to pair it with a song. Hopefully I’ll feel more creative as the week goes on.
A good chair really matters! We were asked to remove our personal items from our classrooms last spring, and I decided to include my extra-special desk chair as a “personal item.” I’m so glad to have it!
Good for you! I’ve thought of asking work if I can borrow my desk chair while working from home, but I will probably first browse around to try and buy a new chair before I go that route. I think my work chair would take up a lot of space in my small apartment.
You’re lucky to be able to bring it home. It’s not allowed at my company OR actually a person 1 heartbeat away from the CEO had to approve it so no one really bothered.
I didn’t *precisely* ask permission. ?
My chair, however is “mine,” in that I had to request it through an ADA request, and it is supposed to follow me as long as I’m working with my district (which is not how other classroom furniture gets acquired and passed along). So, I feel like I can justify it along those lines, if anyone were to look at me askance.
We have a team that reviews accommodations requests but the policy is whatever equipment is purchased stays on site. I’m sure they Alsace also addressed home use equipment given the long-term nature of the remote work. The same team also evaluates mask-wearing (or, actually, not mask wearing) and they are really careful about only disclosing the approval to the manager and the employee only and the manager is also appropriately not told the reason for the accommodation.
This laptop riser works really well for me:

With video conferences now on Zoom, I use an iPad placed behind my laptop but propped up so the camera is at the correct angle. I haven’t yet found a good way to do Zoom while standing but thank goodness I don’t use Zoom all day long.
It’s cooled off some and it feels great. SOTD is Infusion d’iris, and song wise it makes me think of Dreamboat Annie.
Good match!
I always liked that song.
I am pairing Robin and going with Bill Evans, from an earlier period. The tune is Peace Piece from Everybody Digs, one of my favourites. I am partnering it with Tauer’s L’air des alpes Suisse .

Here’s the tune, piano.
Just lovely, thank you.
SOTD = Tauer Les Annees 25
I’ve got nothin’ for the CP but will see about Friday. This week, I will wear a perfume with a number in its name.

In other news, over the weekend, I received an email from Boscovs stating that they will join other companies and not be open on Thanksgiving Day. OK, that’s a normal expectation for me. And, it is August…I AM NOT thinking about Thanksgiving when it’s hot as H.E.double.L, Back to School is more like back to [fill in the blanks according to your locality], I’ve only seen Halloween stuff at B&BW and guess what, there won’t be a Thanksgiving Dinner like there used to be because a socially distanced version just won’t cut it.
I bet that Trick Or Treat won’t happen this year. No social distancing with that at all.
I bet you are right! Sales are going to be poor for costumes and candy.
I am waiting for discounted candy ? ?
Maybe a closed loop trunk or treat may be feasible?
I don’t really hear about Trunk Or Treats in my area at all. It’s still a little early to think about Halloween, though.
Ha! And absolutely touché on my comment regarding Thanksgiving ? ?
I’m wearing Mazzolari Vetiver and pairing it with Mark Knopfler’s Golden Heart, as this is the only vetiver I like, and it does seem to have a golden heart to it. All the other vetivers I’ve tried smell like they belong in some sort of evil potion.
I will have to give it a whirl!
Hello Y’all!
Long time no posting, but I hope everyone is well and smelling fabulous! I’m still wafting a wee bit of Elizabeth Arden White Tea and enjoying it….
Hi jada! How have you been?
Doing fine! Busy with work and my garden and the kids and soon to be digital school…..LOL
Perfume is still in my life, but has been in the background with everything else. How are YOU?
Doing good. Also getting ready for digital school. Hopefully my son will be attending junior college with some in person classes but we just don’t know yet.
I’m still very much enjoying perfume. Miss your videos!?
I’ve been thinking about you! Happy to know all is well and you’re still perfuming your part of the world. ?
I wore Chanel Sycomore today to power through 3 hours of Zoom meetings on a Monday…. it helped!!
Sycomore always helps.
You smell fantastic!
Posting a little late today. It’s been a low-energy Monday for me… we already have clouds from Isaias overheard in NJ. Looks like I will be on the windier side of the storm tomorrow, while folks in PA will be on the wetter, rainier side. Hope that everyone’s power stays on.
SOTD = Soivohle Dog Star Cologne, from the sample stash. I needed another calming scent to alternate with my incense samples.
Fingers crossed for your power!
We already got some heavy rains, on and off. I am walking around with a flashlight just in case… and turning in early so I can wake up early and get going on work as we may be in for some wind and rain lashing starting the afternoon.
I thought I was the only one who walked around with flashlights! If there is a bad storm expected overnight, I sleep with one next to me. I hope it’s not too bad in your area.
I am not looking forward to this!
Stay safe!
Was in Be Layered F@ck Me today, which won’t be dignified with a song match.
In amazing news – my amended 2018 tax return was accepted!!!!! Massive relief.
Long story short, the accounting firm messed up really big-time, and had submitted filings that had me assessed as owing $14k, instead of being eligible for a $5k return!!!
They are NOT my accountants anymore, but anyway, amended filings were sent off shortly before the pandemic hit, but this has obviously been a stress hanging over my head. But the return was deposited into my bank account which means the amended filing was accepted and I’ll eventually receive a revised assessment.
The song pairing for this news is Labrinth’s “Miracle”:

Great news! Congratulations!
So late, but good to be here. I must catch up.
I fell hard for my sample of Tamarindo by Memo today. This one smells amazing, chic and simple. This is an excellent summer wear to me and great in the heat yet not-A-citrus! I need some of this.
