It's Tuesday and National Junk Food Day. Birthdays today: Robin Williams, Ernest Hemingway, Cat Stevens. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: in Dior Eau Sauvage because girardEAU wore it yesterday. Tea at the moment is a mixed blend of use-it-up samples of black tea, mostly from Upton.
Reminder: on 7/24, wear a perfume by Zoologist, Xerjoff, Worth Paris or Yosh if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letters W, X, Y or Z.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the Cardew Design Tea Plant & Honey Bee teapot, which seems to be mostly sold out but you can still find in 2 sizes at Replacements.
Hi! SOTD is Bronze Goddess Azur. A nice blind buy ? We finally have some sun here so it will get some skin time!
I’ve been wondering about this one. Do you get alot of ambroxan from it?
Glad you are having some nice weather!
Thank you! We’ve had lots of rain. Good for the plants….
I smell a lot of fresh neroli and a little sea breeze. Not much more.
Two pots of tea this morning , one of Marco Polo and the other French breakfast. I had a restless night of sleep
I went with the contigo thermos for the birthday gift, thanks all.
Shalimar Cologne, the newer version
It seems my Shalimar cream has gone into the USPS black hole as predicted
Eek! We’ve had a weird delivery incident this week with FedEx. Too complicated to go into here, but the merchant has credited us the full price of the item.
I hope the Shalimar magically appears at your door soon!
me too!
Good grief. It as mailed on the 9th!
Ah, forgot to mention my OOTD, I am wearing a beautiful long skirt a friend brought me back from Greece a while back. It’s light and flowey
I think this was the issue with some of my recent packages. The post office here told me they have unpacked pallets waiting for days sometimes, and things don’t get upgraded into the system until the pallet is manually unpacked and everything gets scanned.
I’m with you on the bad night of sleep. Ugh, feeling so unrested, if that’s even a word. ?
You and I are not alone. A friend of mine also texted me that she had an awful night of sleep…
unrested is totally a word and one that is in high use these days!
Oh no, what a bummer! I hope you get your Shalimar cream very soon!
There’s nothing more wonderful than a luxe body cream.
Keeping fingers crossed it arrives soon!
Me too!
una domanda importante-did they discontinue the powder? I can’t find it anywhere..and I am running out.
I’m wearing Camel. I’m not sure if I like it. We’ll see what the drydown is like.
I love Camel! You smell great!
It was a blind buy for me based on nsters comments. Such good enablers, all.
Robin the teapot is so cute.
I got a lot of cedar out of camel, hence the hamster cage I mentioned yeaterday… how does it work for you?
no hamster, not much cedar. I love it actually, it’s warm and incensy to my nose.
I wish it worked like that for me. SL FdB also reads hamster cage on me- just straight up roaring cedar. ?
I’m not getting cedar, but incense, perhaps, along with the ongoing dried fruit. I wasn’t wowed initially, but I like it in the drydown. I think it be really nice in cold weather.
Yes, it is for chilly weather. Deva, consider it money saved for more Bengal Rouge!
One pot of espresso down, one to go. I’m wearing Jacomo Art Collection No. 08, so that I can have both coffee and chai simultaneously.
Nom. You smell great!
Pass me some of that espresso, per favore
due ☕️☕️
Whoops. Wrong language–Italian instead of Spanish. I swear my brain only has two spots for language learning, English and “other.” I speak pretty functional Franglish, Franglagasy (Malagasy + French), etc. Pretty sure I didn’t charm any Italians by throwing in some French when I didn’t know the right words while we were travelling over there, either . . .
Seriously, I clearly need more coffee. I was right the first time. . .
I don’t mind Italian.
I have my class this evening as a matter of fact.
Ciao!
Please, me too.
Pretty sure I have nothing for the CP, so am wearing Hermès Un Jardin sur le Toit. (Cue Robin: apples and pears!)
I am in my campus office to retrieve some items. It is 85.6 (F) in here, and I cannot open my window — it does open, but it is a large, old window and I cannot open it safely. Ugh. At least I have a tiny electric fan on my desk. But so far it’s very nice outside today, so I hope not to be here for very long.
Ha!
Hope you are out of that office and someplace cooler by now.
Yohji Yamamoto pour homme cologne (the one in the twisty bottle)
Thegoddessrena, you have so many perfumes I have never smelled!
Misia EDT, smelling delicious. Such a cuddly powdery violet!
As I remember, it was quite enjoyable!
Eau de Lalique
Is that the one with the blue-green juice? That’s refreshing! I have had very good luck with Lalique perfumes.
You smell great.
House twin
Found a rarity in my drawer – Tauer Cologne du Maghreb. It felt right for this mild temp just slightly above 20*C. Shame Andy discontinued this one, I wasn’t a big fan of L’Eau, his later fresh perfume.
I don’t think I’ve even sniffed that one. What’s it like?
It’s fresh, brisky & quite transparent citrus with orange blossom, hint of herbs and woods in the base. It was simple but pretty.
Sounds lovely and refreshing! I don’t usually go with orange blossom scents for myself, but if it’s in the background enough, I can overlook it.
I didn’t care for L’Eau either.
It was specific. On me the citrus was quite chalky.
Post shower some Chergui. Haven’t reached for this in a while.
Yesterday was national junk food day at my house, so today must do better.
Same for me yesterday, lol.
Yesterday I ate half a peasant loaf of whole wheat/rye bread. I think society would suggest I should feel bad, but. . . I don’t. It’s really good, especially when toasted with a little butter and jam!
Toast with butter and jam can be sublime.
Agreed. Sometimes it’s exactly right!
Society. hmmmm
Bread sounds yummy.
I fear I am often a little on the edges of society and their norms. Sometimes I celebrate it; sometimes I wonder if maybe I should at least try a little to fit in.
You smell great! I wore it a few days ago after a long break.
As for junk food… I am about to leave my apartment to pick up the hamburgers I ordered. Not feeling guilty at all.
We had Taco Bell 7 layer burritos and chicken chalupas for dinner last night, an event that hasn’t happened in months…
It’s Zoologist week for me. Yesterday was Nightingale, today is Elephant. I’m happier with today’s choice.
This week I’m ‘attending’ a work conference. Virtually of course. On the plus side, no travel, no expense reports, no sitting in icebox hotel conference rooms (why are big hotel rooms always so freezing??) On the minus side, the conference would have been a fun opportunity to see some co-workers one last time before I retire, so I’m a little sad about that.
But ooof the hours they picked for this conference are so strange. 7am – 11am and 5pm – 6:30pm each day for 4 days. Yesterday I took a couple of hours ‘off’ in the afternoon. Probably should have taken a nap
… maybe I’ll do that today …
Interesting to hear your comments on the virtual event as that is the work I do! I think the idea with the time is, at least in our case, all sessions are recorded and can be played again as an attendee plus, if it’s a global event you can’t pick times that please everyone. 7am is very early and we start our events no earlier than 9am ET. The bigger challenge is how to do connecting and networking well virtually. Not easy. Hope it’s a good event for you!
The invitees are literally around the globe so whatever times they pick are bad for someone. In this case they seem to have picked US Central Time as the reference (our biggest site is in Texas). Since I’m in California, that means a 7am start for me.
The evening session times are very odd though since they’re pretty much globally bad. When they have this conference in person, they do always have evening sessions, so they seem to have blindly followed that path with the virtual conference. I’m not sure the reality of a virtual situation quite sunk in there.
I don’t know why but for some unknown reason I don’t find Zoologist fragrances really appealing to me. And I know so many people who love the brand.
Oh well, can’t love them all, right?
Indeed! There are plenty of NST favorites that I don’t like. That’s what makes the game fun, right?
After sampling all of the Zoologist scents, Elephant is the one I ended up purchasing. I really like its sharp, green notes especially.
I think Elephant may be my favorite. Sandalwood and greens.
Though I also like the original Bat and Beaver… though those aren’t really wearable in public, lol
I always want to pull the trigger on a sample set, but even at $195, it’s a little pricey for me right now…
Wow, that is pricey! You can buy individual dabbers from Luckyscent or Tigerlily if you want a cheaper way to try a few. I’m just trying to be helpful, you understand
I appreciate it! I have a feeling that I’ll love many scents in this line, I see a big wabbit hole in my future!
Which makes me wonder why they haven’t done a Rabbit yet!
I don’t go to conferences often, so was not aware of how COLD the rooms are – at a conference in San Francisco a couple of years ago, I left the workshop, found a hotel employee, and told him something was surely wrong with the AC, they turned it off, and within 20 minutes all the men in their suits started sweating and wiping their foreheads – oops. (and then of course, someone else had the AC turned back on).
I’m always freezing until my next hot flash comes along!
Right there with you, SmokeyToes!
Yesterday my husband had to go to the ER, where they found some small blood clots in his right lung. He’s fine, thank goodness.
I desperately need some kind of peaceful vibes so I’m wearing Dzongkha.
Glad he is fine! Sounded scary.
Oh, hope there will be no complications
Oh no! Is he still there? I would imagine they’re investigating why he developed those clots in the first place…
Glad he was checked out and is ok. Big hugs to you.
Omg!!!! So glad he’s okay.
Hugs. ♥ Thinking of you and your husband.
((sistine)), hoping for a complete recovery, that sounds scary!
Sending healing thoughts, sistine.Glad it was checked out!
wow wow!
Healing thoughts your way…
I hope he will be well taken care of.
I hope he will recover and you’ll be able to figure out what happened!
Oh woah….i am so glad he is okay!
I hope he recovers switfly
Sistine, so glad to hear he is well!
Hope that it’s a one-time thing or easily treatable! Trips to ER not fun. Thoughts are with you,
Oh how scary! I really hope he will be ok.
Glad to hear he is fine. Sending healing vibes!
Oh, goodness, big hugs to you sistine! My husband had those, so I know they are scary.
Gosh Sistine! good wishes to both of you!
ZOMG! Scary! I hope everything turns out all right in the end.
How very scary! I’m glad he is ok now.
I think I did National Junk Food Day yesterday having indulged in a hockey puck sized chocolate chip cookie, a slab (yes, slab and not slice) of pizza and Haagen Dazs chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Bad, very bad. It was spread out over the day, but still.. today we fast, kind of.
SOTD: Encre Noire
I don’t think there’s anything immoral or “bad” about any food, just foods we choose to eat more or less often based on other goals. Sounds like yesterday was a day you decided to eat more of some delicious foods! Chocolate chip cookie and peanut butter ice cream sounds fantastic!
Thank you for this, Marjorie Rose. It’s a good point and yet we often categorize food as good or bad because what’s in them can result in bad consequences. However, eating delicious food like pizza and cookies in moderation really is not a bad thing
?
Thanks for saying this. Some friends in Albuquerque just sent me some very delicious piñon brittle. Wow is it good! It was basically all I ate for lunch today.
excellent lunch choice, Calypso!
Tomorrow is another day for choices!
I need to fast tomorrow. My day today was much like your yesterday. I made another cake, chocolate chip cookie bars, and we just had pasta with alfredo cream cheese sauce for supper. Yikes! ?
?
Second (and last) day of BK sampling in Gold Knight, which suits me better than Woman in Gold. This is billed as a masculine, but to my nose it could swing either way if you are inclined towards thick, dark-syrup scents–think Egoiste. This one smells like its notes–honey, anise, and vanilla. It is not a power bomb on me (but I applied with a dauber AND my nose has been a little wonky lately–so YMMV!) by BK standards, although it has plenty of sillage.
That sounds nice! Is it more of a cold weather scent?
Definitely. Its been so cold here (mid-60s, but that IS cold for summer, even in NorCal), that today was the second morning in a row that I turned on the heat! I’m in a fluffy sweater, corduroy pants, and thick socks with my clogs–and making my way through heavier decants and samples since I put away my cold weather FBs for the season.
Your outfit sounds cool. I wish I could still wear clogs, but my feet won’t have it.
Wow. We have the air conditioner blasting and all the fans on.
Woke up in L’Heure de Nuit this morning. Wearing Zagorsk today.
Not a bad (perfume) day then
No, it’s not. Just have to figure out tonight’s scent. Memoir or Dia.
SOTM is coffee and the remnants of a heavy spritz of Shalimar Souffle d’Oranger, thanks to hajusuuri. I will reach for one of my Zoologist samples later, I think. Last time I sampled them all, it was much cooler weather. Seems fitting to pull them out and give them another go today!
Another busy day in the kitchen for me. The emotional support poultry from yesterday becomes dinner for a few nights, but then I freeze several pounds for later, quick meals. And I will make stock with the carcass. Again, boiling liquids for a few hours in the hottest part of the year so far seems like poor planning on my part, but what can I do? Turkey stock is the best!
It is! In our house, we freeze Thanksgiving turkey stock in ice cube trays and use the cubes for months afterwards.
Oh man, I would need about 20 ice cube trays to go that route! I do tend to freeze it in old 2cup and 4 cup yogurt containers, which are the quantities I most often need stock for. Ice cubes are great for smaller quantities like stir fry sauces, though. . . maybe I’ll do a few trays just in case. Thanks for the reminder!
We end up doing serial-ice-cube-freezes, lol. Fill up the ice cube trays, put the rest of the stock in the fridge; transfer the stock-cubes to a freezer bag once they’re frozen; repeat.
OMG what an idea! Why have I never thought of that? I love NST…
That was quick! I just mailed the packages on Saturday!
Yup. Arrived safe and sound yesterday. Thank you, it’s a lot of fun!
?
How is your Shalimar Souffle? I am also on Hajusuuri for some
It’s Shalimar light with a strong nudge of creamsicle. I like it for this warm weather, but part of me wants it to have a little more oomph, even though I’d probably leave fainting people in my wake in this heat!
I wouldn’t worry about those people
????
You can also make excellent chili with pre-cooked turkey.
Good morning! (It’s morning here still, anyway.) It’s even finally warm here in Seattle and perversely, I felt like wearing a dab of Coco. And I’m loving it.
Has anyone tried Diptyque’s Gingembre room spray – in rooms or on themselves? It sounds like a clean (in a good way)/fresh/lightly spicy/invigorating fragrance, but I’d love to hear thoughts.
Not Gingembre, but have used other Dyptique rooms sprays on clothes…. (and you know, some of the skin next to it).
Thanks!
I love Coco! You smell elegant
Thanks, LTSG. It is so beautiful.
I like to go with a heavy on hot days sometimes! Just recently got to know Coco from a lucky Ebay find with a lot of 1980’s sample vials (I dated based on some other minis that were included)! Vintage Coco is one of my *swoon* scents now.
I agree!
Commando at the mo, but needing something very upbeat. Corsica Furiosa, I think.
So hot here it’s unbelievable. This for all the cat lovers out there. I stumbled across this and was amazed..!
https://youtu.be/vIvdsqo_87o
Oh my, that’s amazing! So real…I previously viewed felting as doing an approximation of something and this artist made a picture look 3D, down to the placement and length of whiskers and the forehead fur! Thanks for sharing.
I had no idea this is what felting is. At first, I really thought it was a taxidermied partial cat head! ?
I cannot believe how realistic these are! ?
Omg- I’ve had too many typos to count. I need more coffee…
I don’t see no typos ?
The only reason I know what felting is is because I spent too much time on Etsy a while back. I have a felted owl family, phone case and camera case.
Etsy is definitely a black hole …
The process and result is fascinating. Also eeever so slightly creepy.
Yep, I think it was the creep factor that fascinated me at first. But really, amazingly realistic.
Yes way too creepy for this cat lover.
I also thought it was creepy but I am very easily creeped out, even by pictures of beautiful flowers, like this:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CClt3skM2px/?igshid=1156dnkmb72vk
I like that!
Is it the pokey things that creep you out? I find the symmetry just beautiful, and that bee knows how to work it!
It’s the cross-hatch center that makes me feel like an insect would just come out suddenly and crawl all over me.
That is stunning! I said quite a few incredulous expressions while watching the video. At first I thought those were the best holograms I had ever seen…
There is a book called Crafting With Cat Hair for using your cats fur to needle felt.My friend has done small non realistic kitties with her cats fur.
Wow, that is so realistic. Amazing what you can get good at with practice…I wonder how long that takes.
Pour La Belle, a very mossy chypre for another day of bike commute. Tomorrow I will take the car, two days in a row are enough!
2 out of 3 sounds like enough? Good for you for doing it at all.
Going to the doctor this morning and I am nervous.
Will probably wear some Minty Man…going to try not to overspray.?
Hope what ever you are nervous about turns out OK!
I hope it will all be well!
overspray..everyone is in masks anyhow!
It’s also an excellent way to remind people to keep a proper distance.
yes..spray enough for a 6 foot trail
YES to this!
I will start this pronto!
And a little sign- I f you can smell my perfume, you are too close!
Hope everything’s OK!
Good luck She-ra!
I hate going to the doctor no matter what it’s for. Thinking of you!
Thanks for all the support.
Appointment went well. Nothing good comes from overthinking/googling stuff late at night…I should just focus on all things perfume before bed as is my preference.??
This seems like sound advice. Glad to hear all went well!
Good!
Yes! And from SpringPansy’s “you didn’t ask but I want to say it anyway” general advice drawer: never read work emails right before bed either.
You are so right about that one! I have done it in the past but no more…even when I am sorely tempted I remind myself how I have been burned in the past.?;)
Glad to hear that your doctor appointment went well!
In Tokyo from my Gallivant sample pack. In two minds about it. Love the soft incense and dry down. Dislike the ‚i have hairs on my chest’ woods coming through (maybe just my nose, is that the cedarwood??).
Will have to re-visit. Which is a good thing usually.
Impersonating a Desert Queen in David Yurman Extrait on top of my own oud EO and argan oil concoction. I do not have too many oud fragrances in my collection and I live in a perfume desert, so it was not all over nonexistent perfume counters near me. I really enjoy it and never had the opportunity to tire of it.
And since I so rarely smell oud these days, I might come to like it again
Hi all, my SOTD is Kate Walsh’s Boyfriend. Want something warm and fuzzy for my day.
While out on yesterday’s walk, I discovered a beautiful German Shepard who was on the lose and running all over the street (not ideal on Geary boulevard).
A number of us were able to wrangle her until Animal Control arrived.
Thankfully, AC was able to get in touch with her owners. Poor sweetheart was very nervous.
You are a saint and that dog is lucky
Thanks L2SG!
Thankfully, I had cheese on hand to bribe her.
So pleased it ended well. You should get a medal.
We have to take time for animals. Glad your involvement ended happily.
Yay for a happy ending with that German Shepherd!
I’m in Eau Premiere for a day of meetings. Today is my Friday and then I’m off for 8 days! Woo hoo!?
You smell great – one of my go-to work scents!
Happy Tuesday-Friday!!
SOTD = Parle Moi de Parfum Orris Tattoo
Woo hoo! Love this orris / iris perfume ❤️

In other news…on the NYC return to the office, sharing key themes which may or may not be representative of the majority of the companies that have started reopening:
1) After going in to the office for a few days, 1/3 of the people decided they cannot do it because the NYC subway was crowded, not enough social distancing and many were not wearing masks. Sounds like a recipe for disaster in an enclosed spaced, methinks.
2) The requirement to wear masks while in common space was not adhered to by many. I can tell you that the mask rule for common space is very clear.
And to think that NYC is one where the curve had flattened and cases are on the decline. The people who were part of the return group were deemed “critical” and had been working remotely for 4 months already. Not a good start.
Subways during a pandemic sound simply awful. I have only ever ridden them in the summer, since all my time on the East Coast has been vacation travel, and the heat and SMELL of them are my strongest memory of the experiences. Packed in like sardines, hoping the guy next to you will keep to his personal space bubble. . .
Nightly cleaning continues; however, I think there were expectations that it won’t be as crowded and it probably is not as crowded as pre-pandemic BUT, people’s bubbles have grown. Also, I bet there are some who have decided that early means less crowded and perhaps many had that same thought.
you mean getting on the subway early?
Yes, getting an early start for work and, therefore, leaving to go home from work, hoping to avoid rush hour. I think rush hour is now earlier.
Obsessed with the Pink Poppy & Starfuit body mist from Old Navy still. It’s bright and fun without being sugary and i can mist multiple times a day, so i might actually get through a bottle.
I mentioned Friday how it smells like Herbal Essences, which is great because i haven’t washed my hair but now i smell like i did.
Unfortunately, i still look like i haven’t washed it, lol.
AND if it’s hot where you are it would be a perfect candidate for hanging out in the fridge.
You beat me to it! I was going to say, this sounds like something AnnieA would put in the fridge!
Ooooh – yes!
Wearing some Douceur de Siam, which is fleeting enough to be a place-marker perfume, but very pretty while it’s here.
It sounds pretty! Is it less than 30 minutes?
SotD = Luctor et Emergo
Lots of cherry in this scent today.
I’ve used it about 5 times, each wearing smells a little different. Last sniff was greener. So much FUN.
I’m at the beach this morning, going to try to take it eeeeeeasy today. There are few things better than a random day of doing little or nothing at all.
Happy Tuesday or Bluesday or Nothing-at-all-day to everyone.
You! Smell! Terrific!
Enjoy the beach!
enjoy nothingness
Agree, fun scent!
Hope the easy day turned out easy
Unsettled by Fazzolari, from the recent Scentbridge that Hajusuuri so kindly organized! The samples were so nicely packaged! I like Unsettled, but I’m not sure if I need it.
Yep, I had the same response to that one. Interesting, enjoyable, but not really FB necessary…
Glad you’re enjoying the experience. I do think that optics count a lot and I am usually bummed when I can’t reverse the opening perfectly to make the package look new ☺️
That’s why I took pictures of mine!
Caron Aimez Moi and I am on my third cup of Citrus Mate tea.
your tea sounds refreshing
You smell lovely. I love the pastis note in AM.
Busy here! SOTD is Dryad, and was 1681 yesterday. That’s my rotation for the last week.
Robin, you have a typo in your SOTD link to Eau Sauvage (“Savauge”) at the top that I can’t stop myself from mentioning. Gorgeous weather here again today – time to insist that Mr. G help me put up the big umbrella. Happy to know that all of us here have a lower risk of dementia!
You smell great.
Dryad is so good!
HUGE thanks!
Hello! “Hunkered down” again inside to avoid the heat outside. No perfume yet, but I may try my sample of Zoologist Bee again this evening.
I stayed up late last night. Explore.org’s “Dog Bless Us” section featured a Great Dane whelping. The puppies are possible service dogs to help people with balance issues. It was May’s first litter, but she had good instincts. At least, she knew what to do by the time I saw puppies 5, 6, 7 and 8 being born and then dried off by the person helping her.
This ended up being my biggest errand day in weeks…it was hot but not as humid & miserable as the weekend.
I ventured out in the early evening to pick a sage leaf and some thyme to jazz up a chicken salad sandwich. It definitely wasn’t as humid as it was on Monday.
I’m going to try to make my errand day Thursday or Friday. I still have a good amount of food, but there are things on my Walmart list that I should pick up soon. I celebrated junk food day with Tastycake chocolate cupcakes. lol
I forgot to say, cute teapot.
Hi everyone!
Its been a while, so busy…co-worker is on vacation, so i have some extra tasks to take care of…
Miss you guys!
SotD is from a sample,
à Chaque instant, by Pont des Arts
(From a lovely NSTer ?)
I put it on half an hour ago, but I am liking it a lot so far! ??
Sorry you are so busy Jiji! We will still be here when your co worker returns.
Oh, another adorable teapot! You find the best images for us to drool over.
Far afield from the CP, my SOTD = Gissah Miral, which to me smells like honey, iris and oud, but the notes say there is no oud there, and call it a Cuir perfume. Whatever, this perfume is fascinating to me, and it has moved to the top of FB purchase list. The exchange rate is weird right now, I don’t know if I should go ahead and buy it, or wait a while.
I am not even paying attention to exchange rates, so no advice! But that sounds lovely.
It is lovely, and the bottle is very pretty in a middle eastern way…and this line has other interesting sounding scents. One called King Authur- not sure if it is whimsical on purpose or a subtle failure of cultural signaling, but I want to smell it. ?
Hi all, I’m in Bobbi Brown Beach today. I bought a bottle on sale at Sephora recently, largely as an emergency back-up for when my treasured trove of the discontinued Beach body oil runs out. Glad to find that the perfume version is very similar — perhaps a titch sweeter/more floral but still mostly reads like warm, salty Coppertone on my skin. Kind of a cheap thrill, as it were, and good for days when I just want to smell vaguely *nice* and am not really up for the rigors of a full-on perfume experience.
Congrats on your backup bottle, Isabella! Still surprised they stopped making the body oil.
Missed a call from Delta Airlines this morning. This can’t be good. I planned a trip last year for October on Delta.
This morning I am wearing Mint 26, an unreleased scent from Imaginary Authors’ Josh Meyer. I think Marjorie Rose and SheriG have some as well. He gave us a tour of his studio and told us how he creates his perfumes. We sniffed all kinds of raw materials.
Yes! That was such a cool outing. I’m really grateful that Josh gave us the time to do that–so fun to see how the sausage is made!
Ugh. Bad metaphor. I’m sorry.
My good friend in Oxford is trying to return to Ithaca next month and Delta has either changed or canceled their flight four times now!
I’ve been commando for most of the day, but I’ve just put on some Duel.
Tired. I’m not sleeping too well. Too much to think about although I’m convinced it will all be well in the end.
Having to find a place to live in another country while the number of infections is increasing is a bit daunting. Still, I’m sure I will manage.
I was just wondering about you and your new job the other day – sounds like it’s still on track, but not without its challenges. Sleep has been elusive here in my household as well. And you are right – it will all be well (or at least okay) in the end.
It’s taken months for me to get the actual contract. That only happened last Friday. I will start working in my new job on the 1st of October. I’ve been living in the same town for 17 years now, and although this change is most welcome, it is daunting.
I’m not the best sleeper at the best of times, but I’m struggling a bit more these days.
Austenfan, that is indeed daunting. Hope you find someplace you love!
Oh dear – that sounds difficult. Hope you find ways of getting your sleep mojo back. My grandma always says that solutions come to you in your sleep, therefore don’t worry about it before sleep and you will wake up with fresh ideas. That thought helps me when I find myself tossing and turning due to stress.
I love this! Wise grandma. Thank you for sharing.♥️
A change like this is already stressful under normal circumstances.
Id have problems sleeping as well.
But yes, you will manage! ?☀️?
Hey buds, it’s been an Hermes week for me so far – Neroli Doré yesterday and Mousson today, both perfect on hot days. I finally got my car into an auto shop today after it was vandalized 10 days ago. Insurance will be going to the shop to assess with the shop and make sure they can still call my car repairable. Fingers crossed!
How annoying that your car was vandalised! Hope insurance does cover it.
Thanks! It is really annoying.
Wow. Your insurance company seems to be very thorough on all this! When someone crashed into my husband’s parked car last year, they took his word for it and sent him a check. No inspection or anything, which surprised me, but I suppose it’s not worth the money to send out someone to all of the claims. Maybe catching a car on fire requires more of a process?
Ha, I’ve been meaning to address the mention I made of an attempt to set the car on fire. It was the worst, laziest attempt ever! The person couldn’t get into my car, so they couldn’t get the gas flap open. So they jammed a piece of paper in the gap where the gas flap opens, and lit the piece of paper on fire. It fizzled out, and they left the burnt paper in place. This weak attempt was enough for the cops to deem it attempted arson.
I think insurance is being this thorough because they initially weren’t sure repairs could be done for less than my car’s value. It’s not worth much, but it’s still worth something to me. I think their big concern is they’d have to call the car a total loss if the door needs to be replaced. This is the driver side door where the mirror was twisted off violently and left dangling by wires. Nervously awaiting results of this assessment, and I’m in work meetings all afternoon so probably won’t be able to answer the call when it comes in.
Very busy day! I will read the comments tonight.
Wearing the last drops of Diptyque L’Ombre Dans L’Eau. Sadly the decant is thunked!
Happy Tuesday, everyone! ?
❤️ Ombré dans L‘eau # beautiful. I always think it smells like a jump into a Rose bush
It is indeed very beautiful and I find it so refreshing for the hot summer temperatures we are having now.
Thunk twins!
You smell beautiful ?
Thank you, twin!??
Busy for me too. Why is everything always an “emergency”? It’s why I don’t get much done during the day.
Showered this morning with Vitabath Spring Green gelee and then added Wrappings lotion. Decided I needed a few sprays of Wrappings to balance the crazy!
A former coworker had a sign on her desk that said something like “A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part”. It didn’t help, but it made us feel better.
I’ve seen that sign on a principal’s secretary’s desk. My guess is she deals with frantic school staff and parents all day long.
That’s awesome!
I reached into my sample spot for W and found Worth Courtesan and Widian Black I. Decided on the Widian, which turns out to be a lovely wood pudding with cinnamon, cardamom and sandalwood. There must be some vanilla in this, even those it’s not listed in the notes.
This is so, so, soooo good. It’s easy to wear, comforting, and the hubs even commented on it, unprompted, which never happens. It’s not cheap of course. Does anyone have any ideas for a substitute? I’m thinking already that this is a lot like Black Cashmere. Will have to go and spritz some to compare.
That sounds lovely! I haven’t tried it, but I love spicy scents. Seems like I always want any amber+cinnamon concoction I run across!
BTW, you alphabetize your samples? Before you sample them?
Yes and no. I had a boatload of unorganized samples and decants, and about a year ago, I organized them alphabetically by house, the samples and decants separately. The decants weren’t too bad, but the samples were almost overwhelming. I do have some things that are from recent swap/split meets, and most of those I’m stubbornly keeping on my dresser, to remind me to use them.
So many NSTers have been so generous with me, that I really wanted to organize things in a way that I could get some enjoyment out of them. ?
Sorry to be so verbose!
I love your answer–not verbose, thorough!
When I was brand new at all this, I bought a jewelry organizer with dozens of little pouches and organized my samples aphabetically by house, just as you say. I assumed I’d want them to retry, to reference later, etc. After about 5 years of that, though, it became clear that I almost NEVER went back to them, and when I wanted to, they’d often evaporated.
I probably still have that thing hanging in my closet, but I’d be surprised if there was much left tucked inside. My samples now mostly live in one of three bowls–a not-tried-yet, a maybe-retry, and a definitely-no bowl. If I really want to keep something for reference, it goes in my perfume cupboard in one of the little shot glasses/candle holders I keep for that purpose.
My plan was to wear Civet by Zoologist today, then the SL Fleur D’Oranger split meet decant arrived in the mailbox (thanks so much rayleighblue) and I am a-waft in sheer decadence.
Happy day all.
I love the cumin note in FdO, if it still has it in the current version
I can definitely detect it, skin, sweat….it’s lovely.
There is something nutty mimosa at first too.
I have already re applied to see what else I can discover.
I spent the day in Mandorlo di Sicilia, and as it faded in the evening, I sprayed Baiser Volé Essence de parfum because I find its over the top vanilla very comforting for bed.
It’s been a hectic day. My daughter had her yearly physical. Then she was still in pain from her wisdom teeth removal, so I took her back to the dentist. It turns out one of the areas had dry socket. Since the tissue was already closing up, they put some clove paste on it to help with the pain, and said it should feel better in a few days. We shall see. I barely made it to work on time.
I’m thunking The’ Pour un Ete’ today.
Trying to use up as many summer samples as I can this season.
Glad the dry socket was taken care of! Hope work is going fine!
It’s actually pretty slow tonight. I will probably be sent home early.
Ow! I had a dry socket when my wisdom teeth were pulled, too. I know that kind of ouch. I’m glad that your daughter had it dealt with quickly.
I wish I would have taken her sooner. When I called on Friday though, they seemed to think it wasn’t dry socket.
Oh, I was wondering if that might have been this issue! I’m sorry she’s had such a miserable dental experience, poor kid.
Late today! Day 5, I think, of my heat wave. More roasty-toasty in the forecast for tomorrow. ???
SOTD = Rock Crystal EdP by Olivier Durbano. Back in my incense samples again.
Apparently, we will have a break from the heat on Friday and Saturday and then another heat wave will attack us again. I don’t like to complain about hot weather, but it is becoming exhausting already ????.
Yep, I’ve been in sloth mode for weeks already…I just cannot function with any kind of efficiency if it’s > 80F, and it’s been in the high 80’s to low 90’s here?
I am hoping for a break. I did a 5K walk on Sunday in anticipation that I may not be doing much walking this week and that at least I am 1/3 of my way to my weekly goal.
Very hot walk up to make sandwiches and then back home. Sweaty day, overall. Got a nice Happy Birthday banner and some fun cake candles for my husband. Weather may still cooperate, allowing us to go out to dinner. We will see. But at least I can make it a bit festive. And out some fun candles on the cake.
Wore Fiori di Capri today…I desperately need a shower and will use my new Jean Naté after. Found a small bottle across the street at our little general store and put it in the fridge. I never really noticed how many bath items the owner of the store has. It’s quite a treasure.
Happy Birthday to your hubby later this week! Have you decided to bake a cake?
Yes. I’m using the Smitten Kitchen spice cake recipe. I’ve decided if it doesn’t work well, then I will just to our local (fabulous) patisserie and buy him an eclair or something.
Checking in late after a day with various distractions. My writing class met this morning and it was the first time I read something I’d written. When I finished, there were some seconds of what sounded like shocked silence. Then people commented. I wrote about Mom, Camus, the coronavirus, and The Plague. I felt very emotional while reading it but in a good way. We have an 800 word limit but I think I’ll continue it next week. Writing about it is hard but perhaps therapeutic.
I accidentally doused myself in Sloth this morning and for a few seconds, got a nasty salty fishy smell. But it vanished fast. I quite love this one, but if that initial gust continued for someone, I could see why they would hate it.
It’s really brave of you, sharing personal writing. Good for you!?
Writing is so hard – this blog is great for wading in. RE: Sloth. I thought it sounded so great I almost blind bought a bottle, but got three sample from Zoologist instead. My first try was not instant love. I might wear it tomorrow, or maybe will save it for Friday! Glad you mentioned it.
Go you! The best writing is sometimes the most difficult. I was very prolific several years ago and although I didn’t write about specific things that were going on in my life at the time, it really helped me process and get through to the other side. How did you find this on-line writing class? I’m curious about that and would consider doing something similar myself, but my best friend is inertia right now, so maybe sometime in the future…
I participate in a blog with some other women, and I have found writing for it has been really important during this time. I’m happy to hear that you had a good experience sharing your writing! It can be such a vulnerable thing to do.
I wonder what it is that made it fishy. I ask because the manager of a Coach store (no longer there) applied hand cream that she seemed to enjoy but to me, it smelled like rotten fish. At first I didn’t think it was her and I kept asking what’s that smell until we figured out it was her hand cream!
I was enveloped in a cloud of Calligraphy Rose today. I bet I will still smell it tomorrow when I get back to my work station. It was a bit much until the AC cleared the humidity from the lobby when it came back on for work hours. :O. But I loved it.
One of the changes our company made is to turn on the A/C earlier. I’m not back in the office yet but the room I’m in has people 24 x 7.
