Hump Day and Social Media Giving Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m in Annick Goutal Mandragore.
Reminder: on 7/17, we're doing Nouveau Niche, updated...wear a perfume from a new (2015+) niche brand. (A repeat from 2015.) A partial list of brands collected from readers (I did not verify all the founding dates!) plus a few I managed to think of myself: Eris Parfums, Arielle Shoshanna, Goldfield and Banks, Carine Roitfeld, Gallivant, Altaia, Floraiku, Vilhelm Parfumerie, Chris Rusak, Parle Moi de Parfum, Parfums Dusita, Heretic, Skylar, Essential Parfums, Blocki, Hermetica, Marc-Antoine Barrios, Sylvaine Delacourte, Mizensir, Floral Street, Cire Trudon, Sana Jardin, Pont des Arts, St. Clair, Jorum Studio, Füm Fragrances.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Bonjour all,
Heretic Smudge. Off to teach another Zoom session. Up way too early.
passing you a cup of coffee..I made the full French press so I have some to spare…
So kind of you LTSG!!
What is that one like? I haven’t tried any from that line.
it smells kind of smoky, incense-y to me. It’s close and warm, not loud. probably the frankincense and sage come through on me.
I love Smudge! When my no-buy ends next year I plan to buy it. You smell fabulous!!
Oh my gosh how I love Smudge – it’s strong, powerful and beautiful. Hope your zoom class goes the same way!! YUM.
Class went well. Many more to facilitate – which means no layoff or furloughs, fingers crossed. I am glad Smudge is getting the love here. Didn’t realize it.
Hello! Ciao!
SOTD Boy by Chanel
French press coffee and kalamata olive bread toasted with butter, 2 and 1/2 slices. yum!
We got a 20 credit on your grocery order from yesterday.
Kalamata olive bread!
I’m coming over!
Ok, do you want it toasted? Coffee?
Definitely toasted, maybe a little slice of tomato.. yum!
Ok, I have tomato’s from Farmers market, including my favorite kind, old German ?
Glad you got a credit. If you are a regular customer, it was the only right thing for them to do.
Mr L said they didn’t even do anything but give the credit
??
That sounds yummy. I’m glad you got a credit for the disastrous delivery!
Awesome breakfast! Glad you received a credit on your disastrous, and dangerous, grocery delivery.
Wait! Calamata olive bread? Ohhhh, delicious and decadent!
I found a gluten-free olive bread recipe from Food52 that I have to try at some point. Here’s the link…
https://youtu.be/PKsBDuNoGOg
SmokeyToes, I have has 3.5 slices today, just another one with lunch.
#worththecarbs
Also I wanted to buy more Shalimar powder, aka as my sleep aid, and I can’t find it anywhere. Did they discontinue it?
Yay for coffee and credit! I saw your post yesterday…broken glass is my least favorite thing to clean up.
Oh, that olive bread sounds wonderful!
Thus far, I’ve had a triple espresso, and managed to feed Otto Mi Gato. I have a couple of Zoom meetings scheduled today, along with a major project, for which I am now sad that I volunteered.
Looking over Robin’s list reinforces my suspicion that I’ve missed just about all the new launches over the past five years. I might have something from Cire Trudon. Oh, wait – I just got a sample of a Chris Rusak scent from hajusuuri, so I’m prepped for the CP (for the first time in weeks)!
Post volunteering regret is real. The triple espresso sounds just about perfect, though!
I know, right? I was shocked at how many brands are recent, and at how few I’ve tried.
Exactly. How’s a perfumista supposed to keep up?
Although I have to say, these days I experience the same feeling about music, books, films, the news…..
whenever I read Otto Mi Gatto, I smile.
I have a small painting in my kitchen from a trip to Venice that is the from the old Jewish Quarter. It’s titled Ghetto Gattos.
I have little enough myself!
Otto Mi Gatto is such a cool name.
Feeling cranky today, wearing Cire Trudon Revolution to match my mood.
And it meets the CP requirements, they launched their perfume line in 2017.
Hope the mood passes ?
How the mood passes ??
I hope you feel better soon.
Hope the cranks take their leave soon. ?
Maybe a puppy snuggle will help create some endorphins. ?
Puppy cuddles are helping! (along with chocolate chip cookies)
I wonder how much crankier the world is under Covid, as a percentage, like, 20% crankier? 30% crankier? 40%?
I’m in Shalimar body cream. Not a bad decision to buy two jars. ?
https://instagram.com/stories/vantasticviews/2353436751703775607?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igshid=1hpiodepq2poo
Tell me about the cream?
I haven’t gotten mine
As far as moisturizing properties, it’s lightweight, not sticky, and sinks into the skin quickly without feeling greasy. Not the most hydrating body cream, but super hydrating in summer is usually too heavy for me. Plus I’m in a humid environment at the mo.
As far as scent, I’d say it’s a perfect summer weight Shalimar. Silage is fairly close, so I’m not asphyxiating anyone else, but now a couple hours into it, I’m getting noticeable wafts that I can enjoy without being overwhelmed. I get a bit more citrus than in the edp.
I think it was good usage of funds (For me) and recommend it, especially if you can find it for $35. The tub is quite large and you don’t really need a ton on the body to get the desired effect. Hope that helps!
Sounds lovely. Now where did that lemming come from?
Oh, that sounds wonderful! I love Shalimar as a summer scent, although since my preferred is old and barnyard-fabulous, this sounds more polite. 😀
Glad to hear that your blind buy was a winner! I think you had said you’d never tried it before, right?
I’m in Dune again, I smelled so good yesterday. We had major thunder and lightning come through last night. Some of the lightning sounded pretty close. Last week a building downtown was struck by lightning and started on fire?so now I’ll always have that in the back of my mind. Wondering if it made it’s way to lillyjo.
Nope, it stayed clear all night. Clouds coming in now, and storms later this evening.
Yikes!
Finishing my large decant of L’Artisan Dzongkha. It will be missed.
Feeling tired and sleepy today. Coffee to the rescue! ☕☕☕.
Happy Wednesday!?
Passing you a cuppa ☕and also some ?
?
Dzongkha is one of my top 5 favorites. You smell so beautiful today. Enjoy the coffee!
Thank you, Sistine! ?
OJ Frangipani, which, IIRC, does something in the drydown that I do not like. Haven’t worn it in quite a while, so perhaps today will be different.
No meetings for me today! I’ve already had my morning walk (it will be hot and humid here today) and am looking forward to a nap, possibly even before lunch.
The iso e super, maybe?
Hope you had a decent nap!
Sampling Indolis from project compliant Areej Le Dore. An old-school green scent that doesn’t seem to be currently available. Too bad.
Oh great, I have several samples from him but didn’t realize they were that recent! Yay! Yes, when his perfume is gone he won’t re-release it because he thinks the ingredients won’t be the same so the scent can’t be continued.
Second day with Wrappings Body smoother a gift from my dear friend PL67!! Love it ????
??
Wrappings body smoother is stellar, and quite well-scented!
It is as strong as the perfume is. An amazing scent!
I second what PL67 said. . I am wearing it like a perfume…. it’s potent!
It also works rather well as a moisturizer.
??
I bought a bag of coffee beans as opposed to ground in Sainsbury’s recently, by mistake, and have been grinding the beans by hand in my pestle and mortar, the smell is wonderful of course, and blending beautifully with the fresh sprig of lavender in my buttonhole this afternoon..What a combination!, so uplifting!
I’m also rather pleased as the said button hole is in my new mohair raspberry Brora cardigan from eBay which arrived today.
How do you grind it to get the right consistency?
I just ground till my arms hurt too much to grind more!- wasn’t super fine, but still tastes good.
Wow, lavender and coffee sound like a great scent combo.
Yes, I’d be so happy if there was a perfume with this combination, coffees a tricky one in perfume tho isn’t it? often falls apart..
There are! Yohji Homme, and more recently, Margiela Coffee Break (I haven’t sniffed that one)
Thanks pixel!- Yohji Homme is one Luca Turin loves isn’t it?- will definitely try and get samples of these!
I was reading on BdJ blog from a commenter that in Tunisia that scent their coffee with orange blossom water or rose water.
Here is a look if you want a recipe:
Café Turk à l’eau de fleur oranger
you have to scroll down..
https://www.lavazza.us/en_US/chi-siamo/training-center/coffee-experience/tunisia.html
Ooh thanks LTSG.. I will try this, I must get some orange flower water!- how delicious!
Love the old school mortar and pestle! That’s a good work out and fab olfactory wake up call. ☕️
Hee hee, it certainly is becoming part of my daily work out routine!
Wow that’s dedication! I have a Japanese Porlex grinder that always comes on the road with me but at home Mr. Teebear and I go through enough coffee that we just use a cheap blade grinder! Lavender and coffee sound luscious together!
I might get a hand grinder at some point!
Congratulations on the mohair sweater, though it makes me shudder to think of it with our spell of +190 heat index days!
Hee hee, not so hot here luckily!
Oops, major typo. I hate typing on my iPad. I promise you it is NOT 190F here. We’d all be dead! But it is 100F with the heat index (how it feels).
Ha! well that’s a relief!
I lived in Madagascar in college, and my host-mother would roast green coffee beans about once a week and then grind them herself in a huge mortar and pestle–used standing up with the basin on the ground and the pestle nearly as tall as she was. It was the best coffee I’ve ever had!
Wow what an amazing memory!
“Brora” was new to me, but sounded vaguely Scottish–so I looked it up. Now lemming multiple items. Marino biker jacket? Those ponchos? Tsk tsk tsk!
They are a wonderful company, their cashmere collection is incredible! Pretty much out of my price range, but I’ve got a nice little collection from birthdays and eBay over the years!
The shops are sooo lovely!
SSS Winter Woods – CM8 says it’s great in warm weather (and although it’s not hot here, today will be 76) so I’m gonna follow her lead.
About to walk 4 miles with a friend so working on emails early and eating peanut butter toast for the win!
pb toast + a long walk with a friend = an excellent morning 😉
Yes, it’ll put me in a better mood for meetings the rest of the day!
Good to know about WW and warm weather…I may try that this week.
I am so envious of your 76 I could cry! I usually get away to lake country in Michigan in the summer but not this year.
Let me know what you think of WW in the heat! On my skin it’s sweet vanillic amber and I love it. Good for you with the four mile walk ?
It’s amazing. I’ll be getting a bottle soon. Thanks!
I’m wearing Eau des Merveilles and just loving it. I just got an email from the AP at the school I interviewed with on Monday letting me know that he is calling my references today, so that’s promising news.
My hugs to all the parents of students out there – this is such a weird school year, and there is so much uncertainty of plans even from district to district in the same area.
Yay on checking references!
crossing fingers and toes for ya 😀
also YEStoHERMES and YAYforMerveilles!!!
you smell delightful 😉
Oh, that’s great news that they’re checking references! Sending positive vibes.
Good luck with your job application sistine, I hope you get the job- teachers are amazing! Thank you for the hug to all of us parents,
Home schooling is not (as I’m constantly told by my youngest, “mummy, you are the worst teacher in the WORLD!!”- this is preceded by bursting into tears, needless to say we are breaking up early for the summer holidays this year!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
2nd that!
Fingers and toes crossed! And thanks for the shout-out — home-preschooling was relatively easy, but now I’m staring down the barrel of home-kindergartening as a single mum with a full-time job and not feeling *entirely* confident about it all.
My district is discussing offering daycare of some sort, regardless of what school looks like. Maybe there will be something like that for you and your little one?
I can’t imagine how hard that must be. I’ve been wondering how if at all I might be able to help younger colleagues with kids since I’m retired and I like teaching. But nobody here wants to go be around strangers and neither do I.
That is good news on the reference check!??
Oh, that’s wonderful news! I hope you get a happy phone call soon!
Congratulations and let’s hope it’s going to work!
Sounds promising, hope you get a positive call soon!
Good luck! ?
Good luck – fingers crossed for you
Good luck! ??
SotD = JD Vanille Farfelue
Smells like the perfumer took Chanel No. 5 as inspiration, then turned up the volume on the aldehydes and vanilla. It’s potent, and I like it. Thank you to the lovely NSTer who shared a sample with me.
Hope you have a moment of something wonderful happen to you on this Wednesday.
I’ve said it before, I’ll stay it again:
Perfume is our superpower,
and the world needs heroes today
more than ever!
I’m with u tiffanie!
go Team Perfume! 😀
Perfumistas Assemble!
yes, please! that would make lots of people smile 😀
Eau D’Italie Un Bateau Pour Capri from a sample that I happened to notice for the first time. ?. As far as Capri goes, I prefer my Fiori.
And I will stick with my Mediterraneo! But we all need a little bit of spray-on Capri.
I forgot to post my SOTD; Nuit de Tuberose, I love this one, but I’ve always sprayed too much before and it makes me feel really sick.
Today just a tiny spray on each wrist and it’s perfect.
tuberose scents are among my favorites, though I completely understand what you mean about too much, I’ve overapplied more than once 😉 Victoria at Bois de Jasmin has a recent article about tuberose perfumes, and she mentions your sotd, plus there’s a video. She’s charming!
Thanks tiffanie! I was just over there, and that’s what inspired me to try it again! I think she’s charming too, and she’s so knowledgable about so many strange and esoteric things, a very clever lady indeed!
great minds think alike 😉 Victoria’s video reminded me that La Chasse aux Papillons is another tuberose perfume, though it makes me think of honeysuckle, that I love. I got out my bottle so I’ll remember to wear it soon. L’Artisan Parfumeur knows tuberose!
Tuberose unfortunately also makes me feel queasy
Tuberose can be difficult for me too, a light application is the way to go.
Peaceful mood Wednesday with SMN Citta di Kyoto.
Did the SMN put you in the peaceful mood – if so, sign me up!
Yes, I find Citta di Kyoto to actually have a relaxing and peacefullness-inducing effect on me.
That’s exactly how I feel about SMN Sideris.
SOTD: Aqua Vitae Forte
Just booked a little getaway – yay! Feeling anxious about how this will go with all the Covid related changes but know it will be well worth it.
Where are you getting away to?
We’re going to visit Mystic, CT. I went with a friend 20+ years ago and haven’t been back and also never with my husband. Looking forward to doing some boating, eating lots of fudge and pizza, and just taking it easy.
Sounds wonderful to me!
Oh Mystic is so fun! Have never spent more than 1 night there, but have done the 1 night frequently on the way up north. Great ice cream, cute town, the seaport museum, wonderful graveyard right on the water, of course the fun (if not huge) aquarium.
Oh yay! Can’t wait.
No. 19 EDP today, because with one spritz I’m transformed into a wood nymph with the stature and cheekbones of a haute couture model, an island entire unto myself, radiant and powerful and imperturbable and unassailable.
Ahh, I love your description! Have a wonderful day, Isabella! ?
House twins!
I like your SOTD better than mine…
Love it! If I can only pick one perfume to save, Chanel No.19 EDP is THE ONE!
Yasssssss!
Wow! ?
Perfume is your superpower!?
House twins today Robin — I am wearing Annick Goutal Nuit Etoilee 🙂
House triplets. I wore Mandragore Pourpre. I actually gifted my husband this one as it leans quite masculine on me, but I stole a spritz. EDP or EDT for your SOTD?
EDP. I love Nuit Etoilee so much, that I own both the EDT and EDP versions 🙂
Mandragore Pourpre is beautiful also. You smell nice !!!
Hey sibling!
Started the day in Pinrose Lil’ Dipper, a weird name for a standard fruity floral. But I thunked the sample and got points for the cp, at least.
I’m now in Bvlgari Au the Bleu, thanks to the generous lillyjo! ?
Culinary adventure today will be Nouveau Quiche. Typical ingredients + crushed kettle chips. Yum.
I love quiche..
Serving you a plate of virtual quiche and a mimosa!
The Blue Tea is so soothing
I plan on using it a lot in the evening to unwind. ❤️
The quiche sounds interesting, must try this
We’ll see how the hubs feels when he sees his junk food missing….
You smell great?
Thank you, and Thank You! ?
I did a double take when I first saw your SOTD, because I misread it as Lil’ Diaper! Ooooops! ?
Good morning, friends, I’m joining my voice with those of you who have also mentioned being tired/sleepy this morning. The fiance has started snoring in quarantine, and SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE, because I cannot sleep through that racket. I’m in Moonlight Patchouli this morning, mostly because I couldn’t handle thinking of what to wear and this came out in my hand. I smell lovely at least.
On another note (and this is largely to tiffanie, my Chloe Ting buddy), I finished my 28-Day Summer Shred Challenge! It was deeply unpleasant, and I will definitely give myself a couple weeks to recuperate, mentally and physically. I guess I’ve done my last Chloe Ting video of my 32nd year of life, then.
Mr. G is also a snorer, so I feel your pain. We have had to resort to sleeping in separate bedrooms because he’s so loud, and actually we both sleep much better that way, quarantine or otherwise, because then he doesn’t have to feel so guilty about keeping me awake (and of course I get peace and quiet).
I separated from my husband early in lockdown, and some things have been really tough (kids missing their Dad when with me, missing me when with him, getting used to having to move between 2 homes) Not having to put up with him snoring and keeping me awake is definitely one of the good things about being single that I’m really grateful for!
Just saw this. It sounds like you’ve adjusted for the better other than continued concerns for the kids.
hajusuri, thank you- it took me along time to make the change and I was really worried about how they would adjust, it was easier to be unhappy for along time, too long, eventually I knew I had to make the change, and I’m so much happier now, and it’s so much healthier for them to have a happy mummy.
It can be really nice to have a bed to yourself. I hope you continue to find new things, however little, to celebrate as you move through this transition! What a challenging time to create new habits!
Thank you Marjorie Rose!
Wow, that’s tough, especially this timing. But I’m glad you are able to look at the positives 🙂
Thanks Koyel, my marriage had been over for a good couple years, so looking at the positives in my new life is what I’m focusing on now!
Hahaha 🙂 oh no! I would be so sad to sleep in a different bed. But also, we don’t have a second bedroom with a bed; our second bedroom has been converted to a study, and the third is now a studio (gym+music). So one of us would end up on the couch >.<
I know – it’s harder when you’re recently affianced, and much easier for us old, long-married geezers. 🙂 The only other thing I can offer is that Breathe-Right strips seem to help a little. Or you could try ear plugs – I can’t keep them in my ears so it wasn’t an option for me … and seriously, he nearly rattles the windows. 😀
Hehe 🙂 Perhaps in a few years, I too will be happy to sleep in a separate bed. You know, SheriG, he did start using Breathe-Right strips, but it’s not clear to me that they are helping at all! Next up will be nasal moisturizers; I so hope they will work. Maybe it’s just the AC. But yeah, I can’t keep earplugs in either, and besides, they hurt 🙁
I dream of separate bedrooms. Actually separate houses would be even better, he is messy.
I just saw this – it gave me the giggles. Men are very messy, aren’t they. They just don’t see the point in things like making the bed – “it will just get unmade tonight” … as if that’s the last word. Yeesh.
I have started wearing wax/cotton earplugs to sleep in the last week not because of Mr. Teebear snoring but because of our A/C window unit being the only thing keeping us from melting during a heat wave. It works, but it’s noisy.
I’m definitely going to keep the earplugs for next time Mr. Teebear gets congested though – they work and they’re FAR less wretchedly uncomfortable than the foam earplugs I’ve tried before for sleeping on airplanes!
I have very teeny ear holes, so I have yet to find earplugs that are both effective and comfortable. Could you please link me to the earplugs you are currently using?
https://www.ohropax.de/en/products/ohropax-classic
These are available at every drug store in Canada, not sure if they’re commonly available elsewhere but that’s the brand I’m using!
I similarly find most foam earplugs hideously uncomfortable for my small ear canals. These aren’t meant to even go in the ear canal, they just block the outer portion and so are way more comfortable.
Thank you, teebear! I will look for those.
Hi! Not disputing your right to vent (I like it when people do), but sometimes it’s good to remember that EVERYONE snores. A friend recently sent me an adorable clip of a little hummingbird snoring, I should see if I can find it on Youtube and post the link.
Hehe. Both cats I’ve ever had have snored a bit. Mayhem, the cat we lost last year, did it all the time 🙂 Mischief, our remaining cat, only does it very rarely. In both cases, it is extremely cute.
It’s much less cute when it’s my giant fiance and it’s waking me up. Grump. And why has it just now started, during quarantine?! Does stress worsen snoring? (It seems to have worsened my asthma, so….)
You have the BEST cat names!
Oh thank you ^_^ We know! (And so do they!)
I think there’s snoring and there’s SNORING. Decibels and duration can matter. 🙂
Too true.
Oh I would LOVE to see that!!Please Do.
go, Koyel! congrats on finishing with Chloe 😀 “deeply unpleasant” made me LOLOLOLOL, and though she is a harsh taskmaster (taskmistress?) I feel a bit addicted to her whole schtick, even find myself considering going back for more . . . time will tell.
someone I know who started snoring recently went to the doctor about it because his wife was at the end of her rope. the advice given was to try decongestant/antihistamine in case allergies were the problem. if that doesn’t work then the next advice was to “lose some weight, about 20 pounds ought to do it, even 5 would help,” news which the doctor delivered in a deadpan manner. The gentleman was rather put out about it, but the wife thought it was hilarious.
Thank you! 😀 I totally understand what you mean. Isn’t it nice for someone else to decide my full workout routine for a month? No thought necessary on my part! I do resent her emphasis on hotness and the “right” shape, though; in one video, she says, “You may feel it in your legs, but don’t worry; you won’t bulk up!” Blech. But I’ll sacrifice that for someone telling me how to exercise.
That sounds really funny btw 🙂 My fiance is a beanpole, so I do not think he would benefit from losing weight, but maybe an increase of decongestant/antihistamine will help!
Mr. Jalapeno snores, so I also feel your pain. I’ve discovered that sometimes if I take 3mg of melatonin, I can fall asleep before he starts to snore. It beats smacking Mr. Jalapeno with my pillow to get him to roll over.
I’m wearing Femme today and was wearing Bal yesterday because it just won’t stop raining and I’m defaulting to my cold weather scents.
A lovely choice.
Oh man am I CP-ing it today. I’m in 19-69’s Rainbow Bar. Launched in 2017, this definitely fits the bill. Feeling quite morally superior, or at least CP superior!
You are superior!! And I am so far failing the CP. Will step up to the plate on Friday though.
SOTD is a newish perfume in the opposite of a new niche perfume house, Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar. 🙂 I don’t normally do sweet, but this just rings my bells. 🙂
I feel very cheerful today, and my poor coworker who is stressing out on many issues, is particularly annoyed with me today. When I get back from lunch, I will just keep my head down and do routine things that she doesn’t want to bother with, and let her settle down a little. I am thinking that when the weather breaks and the bugs disappear in September, I might take an extended stay cation, like 10 days or two weeks off. That would give her a chance to get along without me for a while…and I did not intend that to sound spiteful. 🙂
Ok, off to cook up a lamb chop. Lots of garlic, some rosemary, yum yum. And a great new Kombucha flavor, Kevita Tart Cherry, which has enough various sorts of teas in it to be highly stimulating for a few hours. 🙂
Everyone is smelling fabulous and holding down all the various forts just fine. As my other coworker says, “Be a little point of calm stability in this sea of agitation and change. The world needs more points of calm stability now…” Love that woman!
Your other coworker sounds very wise
That kombucha sounds like an absolute delight!
It’s yummy. Tangy, hint of vinegar, non alcoholic, zesty cherry. I leave it in the freezer until it is a slushy. Ahh!
Oh dear, I must try that! Kombucha slushee…..
I’m so happy you are feeling good 🙂 Lamb chop sounds great right now!
Never tried any kombucha. Do you have a preferred brand?
This Kevita is the one I like the best . They have lots of different flavors .
Good to know. Thanks!
I’m about as far as one can get from “nouveau”, in Iris by ancient perfume house Le Galion. Impatiently waiting for delivery of my recent impulse buy, Carthusia 1681 (another ancient perfumer). Guess I’m just not with the program this week. 🙂
what is this Carthusia? Dreaming of Capri..
Capri is lovely. The 1681 is named for the year the perfumery was founded (or some such), and it’s a chypre with lavender, kind of. I’ve only dabbed from a tiny vial, and am anxious to try it sprayed. My impressions may change!
Fellow iris-wearer who is not adverse to “ancien”
What is this Iris like?
Le Galion Iris is, on me anyway, a non-rooty, floral iris that’s fairly linear, development-wise, and feels very “clean” and bright. It probably has some bergamot, and maybe the tiniest bit of musk. I’m not a musk fan usually, and it’s not prominent enough in Iris to bother me at all. I highly recommend it as another take on iris – one can never have too many of those!
Thanks for the brief review – sounds like something I will put on my “to sample list” for sure!
I’m wearing Guimauve de Noël by Parle Moi de Parfums. It’s a lot like Love, don’t be shy by BK, and I love it.
I was just watching Persolaise’s interview with the founder of PMdP -very interesting to learn more about the concept of the line
I think I’ve watched that interview as well. The line was founded by Michel’s 2 sons, if I remember correctly.
Yes that’s right
Agree that one and Totally White, which smells more like Totally Purple, were the best imho. 😉
I haven’t tried all of them yet, but from the ones I have tried, I share your favourites. Have you smelled Mile High?
Totally Purple is lovely, if I ever get a bottle of PMdP, that would be the one I would choose.
In Masque Milano L’Attesa, dressing up for a patio lunch with a friend. It will be the first time to see her in person this year. I decided to use vacation time by taking Wednesdays off and planning fun activities.
Oh, I love this plan! Breaking up the weeks AND patio luncheons–perfect!
that is a beautiful perfume! we’re house twins now, i’ve added luci ed ombre as my scent for the afternoon. 😀
In Pacific Lime from the swapmeet – easy breezy 🙂
Made a Tunisian shakshuka for breakfast with Afghan bread – it was a hit. Also a great brunch option
Is this easy? do you have a recipe for both?
The Afghan bread I buy and just toast and the shakshuka is super easy – fry diced tomatoes and green onions in oil until very soft, season with S&P and half a lemon (very important) and then break your eggs into it and let cook.
Yum!
Thanks! And very filling
Twins!
You smell great
Sounds delicious! NSTers would come up with the best potluck ever…
Perfumistas make good foodies in my experience:)
Thanks for all the kind comments yesterday. More grateful than ever for this lovely and fragrant community.♥️?
Dame Minty Man today which is like a perfect citrus mint summer cocktail.?? Probably need a FB when I drain my sample.
Standing in line, waiting to refund my bottle returns. I’m wondering if we will be having to stand outside once it is winter?.
Thunking my sample of Pacific Lime today. This is my second sample, but I won’t be getting a third.
When it’s cold out, can’t you save them for when the weather is warmer?
I could, but I usually buy 2 liters, since they are the best value. They take up alot of space.
How is your daughter today Lillyjo? She must be glad you’re home.
She’s in some pain today, as all the novacaine has worn off. I’m alternating between ibuprofen and Tylenol. Plus ice pack.
Ah yes, hope these help and then of course lots of ice cream like yesterday so she can focus on the good aspects of having surgery. Enjoy your time off too.
Oof. Hope she feels better asap!
Hope she starts to feel better soon!!!
Aw, poor kiddo!
I hope your daughter starts feeling less sore soon. Poor thing.
More CP points in Rogue Chypre-Siam.
I am saving this for Friday. It’s a good one!
I may join you!!
All the talk of coffee made me reach for 4711 Coffee Bean & Vetyver. Yum. I don’t like the taste of coffee but I do love the scent.
Just finished my staff meeting at work, and my boss still hasn’t told the team that I am retiring. He had staffing on the agenda… mentioned the guy they’ve hired to replace me… but I guess chickened out on saying I’m leaving. Yeeeeeeesh! I may have to announce it myself.
The boss is weak and just pussyfooted around the news. Any smart person should already know replacement means you will be leaving but it leaves it open to interpretation – better to set the record straight.
Oh, that would annoy the heck out of me! Leadership that doesn’t have the gonads to say hard truths aren’t being leaders.
Ha! 99% of people in leadership positions have absolutely zero leadership skills. Don’t have to look far to find a plethora of examples…?
Oh, I’m sorry that your experience suggests the numbers are that high! In my experience, there’s folks who get into leadership for good reasons, wanting to change things for the better, etc, and there’s folks who get into it for the power, popularity, whatever self-involved reason. Neither predicts if they will be GOOD at their jobs, but at least the former are more likely to accept feedback to improve.
I once worked in a place where employee departures were never discussed. It was always a weird experience to walk in one day, and see an empty desk/workstation.
SOTD = Jorum Studio Medullary-Ray
Wet earth ? and then I added Tauer PHI Une Rose de Kandahar to make it a garden and match my shirt!

I made shrimp taco yesterday and my mouth was dancing until the last bite?❣️

In other news, my vacation to Bentonville, Arkansas rescheduled from April to October had been officially cancelled yesterday. I would have cancelled at the very end had it still been on. Anyway, I am getting a flight voucher plus whatever I paid for the land portion minus $75. I have decided not to ask too closely or dispute the $75 because I am just happy to get something back other than just a credit toward another trip. I do have a trip scheduled for July 2022 and if that doesn’t happen … I’ll stop because that thought is too depressing.
I’m behind on visiting there but several of my friends have and really enjoyed it.
It would have been my second trip there. Crystal Bridges Museum is fabulous. The 21c Hotel is really nice.
Do you always plan your trips this much in advance?! Impressive if so. I only manage to get my vacation plans in order 6 months in advance.
My sisters and I were booked for a Tauck tour that includes Oberammergau Passion Play as The Highlight (only dome once per decade). The Passion Play got rescheduled to 2022 so we’re booked for that.
No more cruises for me in the future (or for at least several years, if not forever), but when I used to cruise, I liked to book the following year’s cruise on board to take advantage of low deposit, extra perks and high likelihood of getting the specific stateroom. If I ever go cruising again, I will pay extra for an exterior room with a balcony…never again a cheaper interior room.
Ahh that’s smart about booking the next cruise while cruising. I have only been on one cruise – of the Danube but it ended up being more of a bus tour cuz the river was too low in parts. I should have asked for a refund!
Glad you got the majority of your money back. It seems you pick your battles very wisely! ?
I’ve been known to challenge $0.01 to make a point ?.
Still drooling about your shrimp tacos! That might inspire me to make fajitas soon, assuming I can get all the fixings.
Do it…maybe try Whole Foods if there is one near you. I did not get taco mix though bit one can probably approximate it.
Of course, now that I have a full size bottle of cumin and paprika, I am looking for every opportunity to use them in some recipe without overdosing on these spices.
I have part of a batch of fajita marinade already made, and maybe some steak to put in it. I’d have to get more tortillas and some sour cream. I might mention fajitas to Mr. Jalapeno tomorrow and see what he says (besides Yum!).
Florabotanica again and my decant is nearly thunked. Won’t purchase a bottle, its just nice, but not special.
Got a strong headache this afternoon, it still has not vanished completely. Will get to bed early today
I’ve been having lots of headaches lately, something I don’t usually get. Unfortunately it seems it is one of the main Covid symptoms here, so I have become a little paranoid, but have managed to refrain from getting tested. I sometimes think mine are stress related, but I can’t bring myself to go for a massage yet.
May I ask why you don’t want to get tested? Just curious, but if you prefer not to answer, that’s fine, too. ✌?
My now ex-friend was convinced she had COVID-19 in early January when she was sick. She got tested in May to see if she was positive (nope) and insisted on getting an anti-body test and was very disappointed she had zippo. Sadly, while I can’t get into the reasons why she’s an ex-friend, she is a kindergarten teacher and a supposedly devout Catholic … I bet if her principal or her priest found out what she said, she would get kicked off her perch.
Well, number one, being sick in January and expecting a positive result in May is kind of ridiculous. To the best of my knowledge, the platforms we use here in US to check for antibodies are notoriously inaccurate. If you want to get tested for antibodies for free, go donate blood. They will notify you in the event antibodies (or hepatitis, etc) are found.
I have to go get some lab work done today and it’s another warm and sunny morning, so I’m wearing the light and refreshing Rhubarb Ecarlate. Plus, a PSA–I bought the Art Meets Art sample set yesterday. Options for payment were credit card or Paypal. Paypal’s currency exchange rate was bad, so I used the credit card. This morning I found that the Paypal rate would have been more than $2 higher than my credit card was charged. On a 25 Euro order I think that’s outrageous.
There’s a lot of “outrageous” going around right now. ?
Hope all is well with your bloodwork.
Yes, I always have Paypal process the charge in original currency rather than converting it, I always get a better rate from my credit card.
Hey, nice proteas, Robin! Is that coincidence, or did you look them up after Kanuka’s suggestion as well?
Nope, sadly, total coincidence…I have just been looking up older botanical artists.
Have discovered that pointy green cabbages are far easier to handle than regular, round ones, and because they’re smaller they’re more tender and tastier – that was my dinner.
Wearing Reminiscence Dragée, a soft citrus and almond scent which I like even better than Guerlain l’Instant Magic and Mandorlo di Sicilia, both have been almond gold standards forever.
Good dinner. We have been crunching our way through brussel sprouts. I hated them when I was a kid because, like cabbage, they were always boiled for far too long.
Same here, when I was a kid I regarded brussel sprouts as nearly poisonous. Little did I know that if you saute them with bacon, they’re awesome. (It could just be the bacon though….)
Oh yes, that’s a good pairing, but I am a vegetarian 🙂
I was a weird little kid. I liked Brussels sprouts! Fortunately, my mom did not cook them until they looked and smelled like an old Army sock, so that might have been part of it. As an adult, though, I have discovered that roasted Brussels sprouts are even better! ?
Roasted, yum 🙂
Yes, not overcooking it is the way to go.
Thegoddessrena posted above that Areej Le Dore is CP compliant so I got out Malik Al Taif for today. I’m not especially a rose perfume person, though I like them fine, but this creation conveys the essence of rose in such a 3D hyperreal fashion that it’s gasp-worthy. I just have a sample but I’m glad I do.
Yesterday I posted very late, so will repeat here that I’m excited to be starting a new writing class! That is, I’m taking it. It’s focused on memoir writing, but people can pursue that in many different directions. We began yesterday on Zoom. It’s mostly women and mostly retired, and their backgrounds all sound fascinating. Some people read their pieces yesterday, and the standard is quite high. I’ll have to be on my game! I’ve never tried this genre of writing before. I can’t tell you how good it feels to think of something other than our current dire situation.
Your writing class sounds great! I’m a fan of writing groups, retreats and blogs but have never taken a class
How fun! I’m a lit major and took a boat load of creative writing and poetry classes in college and LOVED it. I hope you thoroughly enjoy your classes, and what a great way to interact with other likeminded people. Memoir is a beautiful area to explore!
I saw your post yesterday and thought the class sounded wonderful, challenging and stimulating. Such a great idea.
Your class sounds like an awesome experience. I really wish my parents would have written a brief autobiography when they were able to.
Nice. I just signed up for Bible Study via Zoom at my church. i misread the instructions and went through the entire study guide because the message said do the homework before the first class and a pdf was included in the email. I thought the entire pdf was the first lesson ?.
???
You’re the kind of student that teachers love to have!
No SOTD, at least for now, for me. I slept terribly last night–maybe 4 hours, then awake another 3 or 4 hours, then a few more hours late this morning. So, giving myself permission to skip my run, might be skipping “breakfast,” and heading straight into lunch, too, since it’s about that time already.
If I can get my act together at all, I think I will bake bread today. We have milk that needs using up, and I am too lactose intolerant to drink it as is. But, a slice or three of pumpkin rye bread doesn’t upset my system nearly as much. ?
Commando twins!
When you weren’t able to sleep, what did you do?
So many comments! Much catch up after running errands.
SOTD= Abel Gray Labdanum.
That is a nice perfume . I don’t get must lasting power from Abel though, sadly.
Agreed. Exactly.
I may do a few more sprays a la ‘Hajusuuri style’ next time to evaluate properly.
Labdanum always reads as spicy to me. Do you notice the same thing?
Hmmm there is something unusual in this, my first impression was that it leans masculine. I love labdanum.
I will wear it again today to see what I pick up.
SOTD: Mandragore Pourpre.
Just read this NY Times article by Deb Perelman of smittenkitchen.

This is a universal issue. Here it has also become an issue about the safety of teachers and bus drivers and many other unrelated topics, all heavily influenced by powerful teachers’ unions. For me, the issue is clear, teachers are an essential service and if you want the doctors and nurses and orderlies and hospital cleaners and store clerks to be working, regardless of whether it is safe, teachers will have to brave up and go to work in possibly one of the safest environments on the planet. Children rarely get infected and are not the super spreaders people for some reason believe them to be. My kids are just now back to school and we can breathe a little, but already there is talk of shutting down schools again. Rant over.
I don’t think this is the right venue for your rant.
Well, as someone in the medical field, I understand where you’re coming from, but have respectfully disagree about the whole school/kid/teacher thing for a number of reasons.
I will say no one can really imagine the stress of working full time and also caring for children 24/7, nonstop, day after day. I know I can’t since my child had 4 legs and I can put her in her house (aka crate) while getting stuff done. Sorry for stress you (and others) are swimming through these days. ☹️
I’m sorry, Amyitis. This is all so stressful.
I agree that teachers are essential workers but those at higher risk should be given the option to teach via an alternate method. I also think schools should present their plans, including a walk-through of the physical plant, before they can open. Subsidized affordable childcare with income based pricing should be available for when kids cannot be in school.
It’s not one size fits all and it should not be all or nothing.
Very sorry I am so late getting here, but really this debate crosses over too much into politics, and also, as you can see from the replies, it is a subject that is bound to cause disagreements. So please, anybody can feel free to rant about how tough it is to have the schools closed, or about their own stress, but please no value judgments about whether or not they should be closed or who should or shouldn’t have to work regardless of safety, etc etc.
Also, want to say that I can really see that everybody is trying much harder to avoid political discussion, and I appreciate it!
Got re-gifted a bottle of Sottile 1.61 by Yosh which isn’t CP compliant, but as it’s new to me and super refreshing, I’m three days in to wearing it.
Pure simple tea rose and lily-of-the-valley, which I wouldn’t have chosen for myself but wow, it’s hitting the spot!
Helped two friends in photo/videoing a show they did at a senior care home today AND got to get up in the air properly and rehearse (for the first time in 4 months) yesterday! Feeling ultra productive.
Yay for ultra productive, that is such a nice feeling.
Nice proteas, Robin. We have a big South African garden in our botanic gardens that has a beautiful protea display. So, first hint of spring yesterday. I heard a grey warbler warbling. These are tiny brown/grey birds that have to nest very early down here so they can have one batch of chicks before the shining cuckoos arrive ( because they lay their eggs in grey warbler nests, and kick out the young). Hearing a grey warbler is a real sign of spring. Two: my neighbour’s wattle/mimosa scented the air yesterday. The first smell of spring, apart from gorse.
Now, a Snowball update! I was at a meeting last night and was talking to an elderly man about graveyards and I mentioned the name Snowball. He told me it is a name associated with methodists down here. He also told me that my surname is associated with “Primitive Methodists” from Manchester. You can imagine that being a Primitive methodist would appeal to me. The man is a retired religious scholar, soecialist in wesleyan /methodist missionary history …The wesleyans came over pretty early here.
Wearing Bat…the only mammal native to NZ. Love it.
I love the idea of a Primitive Methodist Perfumista!
Can’t help thinking that they would wear Cabbage No.5
LOL!! So true.
Of course 🙂
As someone coming from a LONG line of Methodists I find this all fascinating!
Also, are proteas = banksias, which I’ve seen in Australia?
Robin, I really like today’s artwork!
Commando today. I went to bed last night with a rather nasty headache, and woke up today with the same headache. So I had a late and slow start. Perfume will probably resume tomorrow.
After some Advil, the headache is gone, but I still feel rather “Yech”. ?
Ugh sorry about your headache – hope you feel better soon
Thanks yasmina! I am feeling like myself now, just really tired.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you PL67! I think I might have been a little dehydrated; since I have been drinking a lot of non-caffeinated fluids today I am feeling much more human.
Sounds like you needed a restful day. I hope tomorrow you will feel better.
I was surprisingly productive today, despite feeling “Yech!” And that’s always a good feeling.
Feel better Jalapeno.
Thanks AngelaB!
Eek. Glad the headache is done. I managed a walk after work. It was gorgeous out!
Yep, today’s weather was gorgeous! Might be another day like that tomorrow, but after that we’re back in the soup. ??
Sure looks that way.
I HAAAAATE waking up with a headache! Hope tomorrow will be a better day.
Switched it up to Dirty Lemon by Heretic. Good Gollllly Molly is this one beautiful and good in the heat. Just after the lemon pops there is some kind of additional effect – a ginger and a wood? I am not sure they list all the notes but boy is this luscious.
Now I’m lemming this. Naughty!
