It's Hump Day and World Art Nouveau Day, and the splitmeet is still open for business! Musical birthdays today: Judy Garland, Howlin' Wolf, João Gilberto. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Le Jardin de Monsieur Li.
Reminder: on 6/12, we're In the garden...wear a perfume that was inspired by a particular garden, or that reminds you of a particular garden, or that just smells like a garden in general. (I think someone suggested this, raise your hand if it was you!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Raindrops on peony bud [cropped] by JD at flickr; some rights reserved.
You smell great Robin. That’s my favourite Jardin from Hermes.
I’m in Tardes by Carner Barcelona.
It’s fantastic. I think I might still like Nil more?
Even though I just got a coffret as a gift, the Jardin series are not my thing. But I did enjoy reading the extended backstory, not least because it features Aswan, one of my favorite cities in Egypt!
Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin.
We survived the remnants of tropical storm Cristobal, but boy is it muggy. Is it only midwesterners who use that word? The humidity is 90% this morning, but the sun is out for another beautiful day.
Muggy here too. Looks like you’re sending me a cold front, but I have another day of storms first.
Yeah, it is supposed to be pretty cool here over the weekend. I’m headed north and it might not even get to 60 on Friday!?
My kind of weather! ? I’ll trade you any day!
Glad everything is ok!
I think Brits use it as well.
Yep, it’s used across the pond, but that kind of weather is rarer.
I grew up on “muggy”. Perhaps it is mother’s Wisconsin roots.
Nope! I grew up with “muggy”. New York City perennially suffers from hot, muggy summer days.
Me too! And now we live in Cali!
We know the word “muggy” in Oregon, too, but are less likely to experience it as weather than other parts of the US. Well, we’ll say it’s muggy, but really, it’s usually not too bad, just vaguely more humid and warm than usual. (We’re kinda wimps about it, to be honest.)
Oh yeah, I remember those tropical storms when they’d blow through FL. Florida feels like you’re covered in a wet velvet blanket 99% of the time!
We say muggy here in U.S. Northeast too.
Muggy was said on the east coast growing up too.??
Muggy is also used in New Zealand 🙂
I thought muggy was reserved for the worst weather hell in New Jersey, the armpit of the northeast, where the term is always paired with “hot” as in, “Yuck! It gets hot and muggy in New Jersey in July and August.” It looks like NJ is overachieving in this regard because I just opened the door to get my mail and it was HOT and MUGGY and it’s not even the middle of June yet! ???
Not even the first day of summer yet!
You got that right. We may have proper fall this year, I hope, with less pollution and all that for the past 3 months.
Not just in the Mid-West! It’s a well known and rather disliked weather description here in NJ, aka one of the mid-Atlantic states.
Feeling like a warm summer garden in Blend Oud Tupai Love, which is a lovely jasmine scent.
Have you tried any of their other offerings? I had never heard of them, but I see that ALZD is carrying the line.
I also have Santal Pondichery, which I wore yesterday, and Sana, which is a sweet vanilla gourmand. Despite the name, none of the scents I own have oud in them (I dislike oud).
What kind of jasmine fragrance is this? Can you compare it to any others?
I’ve had a look at the notes and it has rose as well.
I smell a tiny hint of rose, but mostly jasmine. It’s soft and a little bit beachy but doesn’t scream big white tropical flower. Maybe a bit like Nasomatto Nuda?
How does it compare to A la Nuit, Olène or Love and Tears (if you are familiar with all of those)
And thanks for your quick answer!
Hmm, not as green/fresh as Love & Tears, less perfumey than Olène, more powdery than A la Nuit.
Thanks again!
Sounds really good.
This one sounds really interesting – I missed Nuda and am a Jasmine lover.
“A night-time stroll along Belle Ombre beach on Mauritius Island is a delightful invitation to dream. As the sun sets over the Indian Ocean, the tall trees stretch up into the coppery sky. Nature takes over the night and releases the solar scent of frangipani, jealously guarded during the day.”
SOTD Songes
Thrift store find: Turquoise Missoni dress, to match my perfume. Virtually blending into the beach described above.
Love Songes! Are you wearing the edt or the edp?
The EdT today
Which do you prefer
I’ve never tried the edt, I own several bottles of edp, but never got round to the edt.
several bottles..so jealous
Yep, my first 50 ml is almost finished. I have an other 50 ml and then I am the lucky owner of the stunning 100 ml bottle:
https://inthenose.wordpress.com/2013/12/14/fragrance-review-songes-by-annick-goutal/
In my defence I have to say that when I first started collecting I was very thorough and I just love Songes.
Wow! Turquoise with envy over the dress.
Did you find any online Italian classes yet?
You have THE best luck at thrift stores!! And smelling delicious, too.
This dress I bought 2 years ago at a thrift store in Arizona
No kidding?! I always imagine you swanning through fancy NYC thrift stores that refuse to accept anything other than high ticket designer brands. “Sophisticated” is NOT my middle name?
Ha!
This was a high end consignment in Scottsdale ?
By the way Deva, I spent a little too much time at Pinterest yesterday. 😉 😉
I am going to join you in Songes after I finish watering all the thirsty Bonsai! I scored the EDT and EDP at a discounter a couple of years ago. I wear them together, mostly EDT with just a few squirts of the EDP on top.
Nice!
I do love consignment stores, I’ve found many vintage goodies!
Nice score on the Missoni!
Smelling as if I were sitting in the middle of veggies and herbs gardens by wearing CBIHP In the Summer Kitchen. Very nice and refreshing on this warm, muggy day, but sooooo fleeting. I will reapply one more time and finally thunk the decant.
Happy Wednesday, everyone! ?
That sounds like a great pick for today’s soupy weather.
It is! Green and refreshing!
Wearing Foin fraîchement coupé by Oriza L.Legrand. This stuff does smell of summer meadows so no direct link to a garden. However, it reminds me of Normandy which is known for its gardens so that is how I managed to surreptitiously use this one for the CP.
Had a dental appointment this morning. Interesting to see their adaptations to the new situation. The place was always spotless anyway, the only thing that had changed was that I had to wash my hands on arrival and was the only person in their waiting room.
No dental problems, fortunately.
My first tea today was a fancy Singbulli First Flush Darjeeling (2019) and have since moved to the 2019 Earl Grey Vert Primeur by DF.
I love Li, and yet I never bought it. I do always go and have a sniff, at least I used to. The name always reminded me of a book by Philippe Claudel: La petite fille de monsieur Linh, the actual fragrance not so much.
I heard some dentist in my area are making you wait in your car. No waiting room at all.
Well this is the Netherlands after all and my dentist practice is located close to the centre of an old town, so parking is very, very expensive and spaces are difficult to find. So they have to use a waiting room and if there are too many people they will have to wait outside.
Envious of your dental appointment! I still haven’t heard when my dentist will be rescheduling the cancelled one I had.
Dentist appt coming up for me too, ugh.
Another hot day, and I need to ride on a bus without air conditioning (and wearing a brace). I hope I will not get heatstroke. So I picked Lush Dirty body spray today, one of my most cooling and refreshing scents. It kind of smells like a garden (peppermint, tarragon, thyme), so maybe I still can claim partial credit.
I hope it’s not too uncomfortable for you on the bus!
That sounds very uncomfortable. I hope it works out well.
Gosh, sorry about the heat, the bus, and the brace! Hope you get through it all without breaking a sweat ?
Hopefully the windows open on the bus!
I am on the bus right now. The windows, roof hatch and even front doors (occasionally) are open. ? Still the brace and face mask make me sweat a lot.
I hope you were able to face forward (or whatever direction works best for you) on the bus! It can be so miserable to try to sway with the bus’s movements when you’re already uncomfortable!
Good luck on the bus!
Thanks everyone. I am back, I survived! ?
?
You are brave!
Glad to hear it! 🙂
Muggy here (Finger Lakes), too. And I suspect we will go through the day feeling as if it is about to storm, without actually having the storm occur.
Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune for me today, which I guess may smell like a garden in Florida? I wore Sur le Toit yesterday, which is my only FB purchase this year. I wouldn’t have bought it without the Sephora Insider sale, but I am finding it an easygoing summer companion. I like the apples and pears. 🙂 Monsieur Li, OTOH, opens beautifully on me, and then goes weird (unpleasant weird, not Breath-of-God weird).
That is my favorite and only Aqua Allegoria and a little masterpiece really. You smell divine.
Thank you! The AA Pamplelune used to turn very sharp on me, but this year it has not been doing that. Possibly the changing body chemistry of late middle age! Anyway, I just reapplied to get that lovely citrusy rush again. And we have just caved and turned on the AC in the house — heat index is 95 and still climbing.
We’re getting storms tomorrow. It is hot and muggy and all types of gross. I skipped my walk.
I am officially called back to work. I start next Tuesday. I was supposed to have stayed on furlough, but the woman ahead of me to be called back declined. You are only allowed to decline if you answer yes to have been exposed to covid in the last 14 days. Call me cynical, but I think she lied. So I’m going back. The only positive being I might lose some of this weight I’ve gained.
Sotd is Gucci Memoire because someone wore it yesterday and it sounded good for a more humid than hot day.
don’t worry, I think everyone has gained a few extra lbs during Covid19lbs
Typing this as I eat my second piece of toast with peanut butter
I’m joining you in PB & Banana (with honey)…
Beautiful photo! I’m a sucker for peonies.
Commando at the moment, will probably reach for ELDO Fils de Dieu after because I love it so! ❤️ ?
It’s raining and much cooler right now than yesterday, which makes me ecstatic! I don’t know of anyone else whose nose gets so bent out of joint with >80F temps! Last night was almost one continuous hot flash. I think I’d rather go back to dealing with monthly visitors than deal with this stuff. Ugh! ?
#grumpy
Thank heavens for fans. 🙂
Yes!
I’d like to put in an order for one of those hurricane/tornado simulators! You know, the kind where you have to wear a crash helmet? How can I order one of those? And is it possible to sleep while being blown by 100mph winds and suspended in midair? I’d like to volunteer for that kind of research! ? ??
My tolerance for hot weather went *way* down around early 2018. I continue to have a very low tolerance for heat. For a while I’d run out into 50 degree weather in a T-shirt and lightweight pants, and feel very refreshed. I have medicine for that issue now, but that doesn’t stop me from still feeling terribly warm at times.
Oops! The above comment was not meant to go here. What was meant to go here is that I have seen the opposite at work. Someone had a temp and lied so she could work! How crazy is that?!
That’s pretty crazy, especially if she’s working around patients.
Read an article on Salesforce and all they’re doing to get folks back into the office – wow! Talk about a culture change and I wonder what this will mean for recruiting talent when many of the perks of working at a Salesforce or Amazon are no longer doable.
Understand your angst. We’ll all be living with it for some time yet.
A different article I read was Silicon Valley companies allowing more work from home but the price is lower salaries because one can be based out of a lower cost area than Silicon Valley.
Saw that too. Interesting.
I wore it yesterday and the slow dusty fade is just perfect in hot weather.
I find this to fade really slowly on me too.
Hopefully things will go well back at work and it won’t be too busy.
The company doesn’t think we will be busy, so they are only calling back a few employees. Most of the store will be on sale half off. I think we will be swamped.
Surprised they didn’t ask you about having a condition listed as higher risk on the CDC website. For us, that’s the last group that will be called in to report to the office. With that said, yes, people lie. I’ve heard that one of the common themes our employees have called in about has to do with what qualifies as close contact (which means you get to go on an 14 day, 10 business day PAID leave),… likely because they did not like what their manager said. We also have many people who are unable to work from home who have declared themselves as higher risk and their time for a paid leave (at full pay) has now been cut off and all of a sudden, a good number somehow got cured.
I wasn’t asked about being high risk. Only exposure. One of the reasons I believe this woman to be a liar, is I know she is still planning on her vacation for the end of the month, I don’t think she can get vacation pay, but she would still get unemployment. I think being part of the high risk group might allow me to not go back to work, but unemployment states the only reason to refuse work is covid exposure. It’s all very stressful.
Sorry for the stress, Lillyjo. But I hope it will be a positive to interact again instead of being stuck at home.
Sorry about the stress and boo on the person who is very likely telling a big lie. I hope she does something stupid like posting pictures on Facebook so she can be caught in her own lie. Reminds m of an employee who was told to self-quarantine early on because he just returned from a restricted location. He then turned around and booked another vacation (hey 14 days, no work but getting paid … flush with cash) and posted that vacation on Facebook. I did not follow what transpired after that but he was in a sh-tload of wiseguy trouble and deservedly so!
I would never have the nerve to try and get away with something like that. How could he even enjoy the vacation?!
This sounds very frustrating. Still, like Aurora, I just hope it will go well. And that being back at work will actually prove to be nice.
One good thing is we get to shop the sales before we actually open!
I think they can allow only a certain % of occupancy. I hope you get happy customers. You mentioned previously that fitting rooms will be closed, right? I hope the customers know that ahead of time. I suggest bringing sunglasses.
The fitting rooms will be closed. That said, we closed them a week before the lockdown and people snuck into them anyway. Some people tried stuff on in the aisle over their clothes. Sigh… lol
Some people have no conscience. The sad part? He’s a manager.
Still employed, I take it?
You know what, I am not even sure at this stage but really shame on him.
Good luck on going back to work. ?
Thanks jalapeno!
I’m hoping for a safe and gentle re-entry to work for you, Lillyjo.
Thank you! It’s nice to see you back ?
Good luck with going back to work. 🙂
I think I’m going to wear Trillium today, by House of Matriarch, as a means of creeping up on the CP. It’s very green and herbal, with notes of tea and flowers. It has always reminded me of something I either wore or smelled in my youth, though I can’t ever remember what that was.
Happy Hump Day, all!
I don’t know your perfume, but I do love its name. Trilliums make me think of cool woodland paths… perfect antidote to the heat and mugginess many of us are experiencing.
I am wearing Un Jardin après la Mousson today, and I’m really enjoying it.
I would 100% have been in that at least once this week but the last of my decant evaporated! You smell marvelous.
Beautiful photo!
SOTD: Drole De Rose
Loving the hot temps. 85+ yesterday and a wonderful breeze to go along with it.
You smell great floragal! We were hot without the wonderful breeze…feels like we’ve had only a handful of really gorgeous days this year.
Lots of sun & blue sky but temps all over and definitely taking its time in getting hot.
Covid test came back negative. Good news.
Post shower, something summery, maybe Paris Deauville again.
It’s in the 90s even here by the water.
That is good news.
Yay for the negative result! ?
Are you feeling sick? I am so sorry! If you continue to feel wretched, I hope you’re able to get a second test. Gah!
Thank you all! I feel fine but was exposed over a period of time, so it was just better to know.
That is very good news!
Good news!
Woohoo! Congrats on the negative result.
Good news!
Congrats!
You must be relieved – happy for you.
Good news!
Whew! What a relief!
Happy for your good news!
Accidental compliance with CP–today in Champs de Provence, a pretty citrus/floral by Eight & Bob. Given that it performs like a cologne (now you smell it, now you don’t), it is probably a good thing I got it for a song.
Tooting my own splitmeet horn (a girl’s gotta do, what a girl’s gotta do)–If you’ve wanted a decant of Chanel’s Boy, it’s in the offering! Notes: Lemon, Grapefruit, Lavender, Rose Geranium, Lemongrass, Rose, Orange Blossom, Sandalwood, Heliotropin, Coumarin, Vanilla and Cottony Musk Accord
Review? But of course:
https://thecandyperfumeboy.com/2016/07/01/fashion-fougere-chanel-boy-perfume-review/
Now you smell it, now you don’t — ?
SOTM is leftover Lyric from last night. It seemed like a big scent to spritz in June, but I decided to go for it, and did not regret it! I fell asleep last night still noticing it’s pretty, spicy coziness.
I have one peony scent; it was the last off the Chandler Burr mystery scents (Unlabeled? Untitled? I don’t recall. . . ). It’s pretty, in a pink, mall-scent kinda way, and it sticks around and stays equivalently interesting for longer than you might expect for such a scent. Maybe I’ll find an appropriate moment to give it a spritz this week in honor of the community project
Lyric is fabulous!
Agreed! I love it. I’ve “only” got maybe 60% of my bottle left. Might mean it’s nearly time to buy a back-up. 😉
Lyric is one of my first niche loves. Had to get the lotion, soap and travel set along with a full bottle. I still love it all these years later and looking at saving pennies for a back up too!
I’ve been tempted by those Amouage body lotions for years. Does it stay true to the fragrance?
Jubilation 25 body lotion doesn’t seem to be true to the perfume. Lyric, Epic, Memoir, Dia and Honour do.
Whoa! Are you fortunate enough to have all of those?!
If they were to fall into my lap, I could readily make use of some Lyric and Memoir body lotion. 🙂
Fragrancenet and Beautyencounter did have some good deals at the time and I snapped them up. But it’s very hit or miss, especially on price.
I was looking for my decant this morning…will tey again to wear ot tomorrow.
Lyric in June is brave! I think of it as a late fall into winter scent.
Hermes Hiris today. My neighbor has the most beautiful irises; and these ones smell heavenly. She offered to give me some in the Fall when we were outside chatting a few weeks ago. I will gladly dig them up and divide them myself!
Hiris is a really put together and gentle scent. Very lovely.
Late last night/early morning: Tried a sample of Zoologist Bee. (Thank you!) I’m not sure how well my sense of smell was working at that point. My impression was that it wasn’t like other perfumes I’ve tried. I liked it, but it was different.
Scent of the afternoon: Demeter Jasmine again. Still just getting “very sweet” from it. I guess it’s not supposed to be based on a sambac jasmine, but some sort that’s not indolic. I thought about rose, but wasn’t feeling it right then.
I think the next fragrance I’ll go for, maybe in the evening or at bedtime, will be some light citrus splash kind of cologne for a cooling feeling, or a green tea scent.
I like a citrus cologne at night, especially when it’s hot and humid! Used to have some Florida Water in the fridge but it is all used up.
Woke up in Tigress Musk this morning. Since I have taken my shower, I am wearing no 19 EDP while I grudgingly get ready for work. It’s really hot out and we broke down and turned on the air conditioning but it looks like a storm is rolling in but we do need some rain.
You smell nice in No. 19 EDP…i have no clue what Tigress Musk smells like.
STC has it. It’s very slutty. It’s like Nahema and Rose de Nuit got together and had Tigress Musk.
Eek, I probably won’t like it then!
It’s actually smells really good. I was surprised on how much I like it.
Slutty. Good one.
Sounds like Tigress Musk would be my thing, though!
If you love the skank in MKK, vintage BaV or Rose de Nuit, it’s right up your alley.
MKK is too much for me… I get sweaty farrier from it! But Rose de Nuit was lovely.
Mandarine Basilic.
Dew point higher than I prefer, so muggy is applicable. Not horribly so, just on the edge.
I considered doing a split of Baiser de Russie, but I realized I’d need to split at least 75 ml to make it affordable for me. Just doubt that’s doable, so I have held off.
You can always gather interest- who knows
Wearing Paul Smith Rose as the only thing I can keep alive in my garden are my rose bushes (because they need no assistance!)
When I was new to gardening, I was so surprised to learn how hardy roses can be!
I always thought they were fussy flowers, the way they’re always portrayed in the movies with long stems lovingly clipped by fussy ladies in gloves and matching floppy hats.
But some varieties can be downright weedy in the right environment! Thank goodness. I love them, and I’m not the most attentive gardener at times. 🙂
I’m wearing my sample of By Kilian Love (because it’s in the daily lemming) so my garden is fairy tale orange blossom orchard, with lots of vanilla orchids. 😀
You smell gorgeous!
It IS a fun fragrance!
As I mentioned elsewhere I love how trashy it is.
?
My BK lipstick smells like Love, or that is how its marketed. But I have never smelled the real thing..
That sounds splendid!
SOTD is Narcotic Flowers by 1000 Flowers. Nice, but it lasted about 20 minutes.
Ohhhhhh Yum!
I’m conjuring a gorgeous, sunny day in a wildflower garden by wearing 24, Faubourg today. Reality, sadly, is cold and rainy … but I’m concentrating really hard, so maybe there will be sun breaks later. 🙂
Boo to the bad weather
Uhhh – you smell grand!
SMN Eau d’Espagne layered with
Do Son Diptyque!
Crazy., right, and not bad at all!
I hardly ever layer..I am sure you smell good!
SOTD = Lush Imogen Rose
It’s a skin scent rose soliflore. Maybe I’ll wear something else later.
Yesterday’s SOTD, Maison Lancome Parfait de Roses, and Imogen Rose remind me of the The Ringling Bayfront Gardens Mable Ringling Rose Garden. It’s on the path between the Ringling museums and Ca’ d’Zan, John & Mable Ringling’s winter home in Sarasota, Florida.
It’s going to be scorchers for the rest of the week. If it is not over the top hot, I may do another walk after work today. It was liberating to not wear a mask but I encountered more people yesterday than the past few walks combined! I still carried a mask for just in case, plus I had intended to include a quick drop in at Wegmans for which wearing a mask is required.
My morning walk was pleasant but with double the amount of people that I normally see. I don’t wear a mask when I am out that early and walking, but carry one just in case I encounter someone I know who wants to stop and talk to me.
Besides your scintillating personality, people are so starved for interactions.
It’s weird how unpredictable the crowds of fellow walkers can be! I’ve learned to be grateful for our unpredictable spring showers, as they keep more people in their homes. But a moment of clear skies is all it takes to have me walking down the middle of the street again to keep my distance from others!
Oy….a group of teenagers were playing basketball at a small, really small park. On my walk back, with 3 of them still there, I saw a basketball just left in the middle of the street – it’s not a very active street but cars do go on it!
Yes, even on side roads we have to stay alert. At least we seem to be past the point when drivers were treating stop signs like suggestions! There were a few scary weeks there, with so few people out and about, that the driving rules seemed to break down.
Ooh this! I too am walking out into traffic far more often than will be prudent as things continue reopening! Stay safe!!!
Ringling is a beautiful museum, and absolutely gorgeous on a cooler fall/winter day when you can enjoy the grounds without dying of heat stroke. Don’t know if you’ve ever been to the EdisonFord Museum in Fort Myers, but recommend it if you’re ever down that way again. The grounds there are stunning! And the museum’s not too shabby either.
I haven’t so it goes on the list!
Time to switch walking to the morning, maybe?
Nah, too much to do to get ready for work but good idea.
Wearing a mask in heat like today is just awful. I took mine off I couldn’t stand it any more.
Definitely see more going mask-less.
Wearing Fille en Aiguilles layered with Full Incense to calm my nerves. Still no news from the surgery. Hope they call me soon..
I hope you don’t have to wait much longer!
Hope you won’t have to wait much longer.
Everything will be fine. You will get news soon! ?
I talked to him on the phone at the ICU!Will visit him tomorrow afternoon. I am so relieved!!!! Thanks for al your good thoughts
That’s great news!!
Good news! Wishing him a speedy recovery!
Wonderful news!
This is great news!
Excellent news!
So glad you got reassuring news!
Oh yay, thanks for letting us know!!
Glad you got your phone call! That is very good news!
Muggy here too – I am a dry heat kinda girl. I visited Nevada once and loved the weather – it was like walking through a hair dryer. My curls loved it too – no humidity to frizz them up!
I am wafting pretty in Brooklyn by Gallivant. I am going to cue Oakland Fresca’s and out my own split meet horn for this sweet citrus and cardamom easy listening scent. And here is a review from our very own Jessica. Like her, I am finding myself “pleasantly addicted.”
https://nstperfume.com/2017/04/20/gallivant-london-brooklyn-fragrance-reviews/
I cut my hair short last fall for the first time in decades–only to discover that at some point in that time my hair went from straight/lightly wavy to downright curly! (Hormones, according to my stylist.) I haven’t yet experienced dry heat with the new ‘do, but your comment makes me curious as to how it will change. As of now (or as of when I used to be able to get regular haircuts to keep it short), I need a product or two to keep the curls in line.
I need 3-4 products for my type 3a/3b curls! The website naturallycurly is a good resource
Thanks! I will look into it.
Late check-in, but still wafting Guerlain L’Instant EdT several hours into the day! I’ve had this bottle for months and months but just not getting around to a full wear. Good stuff…
Glad you are enjoying this first wearing.
Ooh i love l’instant, only have the EDP but I’m sure EDT equally gorgeous
Some rain again, it’s all good, nature is happy. Wearing Molton Brown Rosa Absolute. First few days without diazepam as my back is all fine now, I can see how that stuff is addictive, noticeably more stress during the day but at least it’s real life. I guess there will be no time in Provence this summer, but maybe in the fall.
Oh gosh sorry for your pain. That body wash is a good one
Oh thank you, pain is all gone, it was rather crippling, the body washes from MB are so good, but I’m actually wearing the fragrance, long-lasting and good dark rose.
I have the body wash so my mind just went there!
Mmm. Dark rose shower gel sounds good. Does one buy it online?
I’m not sure about where to buy in the US because I’m based in the UK where you can find them both in stores and online, hope someone else will be able to help.
I bought mine on ebay
Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus are likely to have the MB shower gels.
Oh, it’s really addictive. I took a bit too much in my twenties, when I had a severe depression. Thankfully I switched to antidepressants after a month, otherwise I would have had a problem… Take care!
It really is dangerous that way, although an amazing muscle relaxant when necessary. I’m so glad you found proper medication for you depression. I have been on antidepressants for a good part of my life, medical help for this illness has really improved too.
I hlwnet to an analyst for some years and have been stable ever since thankfully. But I remember it well. It’s useful if I have patients with depressions.
Ah yes, it’s useful as life experience.
Glad you are feeling better, Aurora!
Good to hear that you are feeling better and getting more much-needed rain!
Thank you Jalapeno. All the wishing you kindly did for me worked in the end.
So glad your back is back to better!!! Mr. Teebear has a touchy back and if it spasms he’s usually on muscle relaxants for a while, thankfully Canada makes some very mild ones available OTC.
I’ve only strained a back muscle once, and I easily rank it worst in terms of the emotional stress compared to any other injury I’ve had, including a fractured rib, sprained facet joint in my spine, broken bones etc. It is NOT fun!
Thank you Teebear, sorry to hear Mr Teebear is a fellow sufferer. Canada’s approach about muscle relaxant seems very sensible. Yes, it is painful although the other ailments you describe sound painful as well.
I tried my newly-arrived St Clair Song of Aubrac today. Just WOW. POW.
So glad I spoiled myself that tiny bit to get my hands on it. It’s absolutely gorgeous and makes up for me saying ‘no’ to lots of other optional costs.
I just found out last night that I got accepted into a remunerated training program for aerial artists who are grounded due to COVID! It’s not a ton financially, but it will let me follow a training program with a coach 3 mornings per week for the next three months, and get paid $20/hr. This is SUPER motivating in terms of helping me not throw in the towel on my performance career at this point. Yay!
Wohoo! Congrats
Super! Congrats!
Congratulations, that’s wonderful!
I’m so happy for you, such good news!
Good news
It’s wonderful that you will do what you love.
That’s great news! Congratulations! 🙂
Hooray for you! Well done on being accepted!
Congratulations! ✨??
Awesome!
Wow, fantastic when money is winging is way TOWARDS you rather than away from you! Congrats!
It’s beyond a lifesaver for people in my situation! It’s been three months now that I haven’t been able to even practice my professional skills, much less earn income off them, and I don’t expect to be able to work for at least the rest of this calendar year.
I’m sensibly looking at putting more time into continuing education for a transition to an adjacent career as well, but it takes a weight off to know there’s some support for my continuing in my current field of profession.
Love this news!
So glad to hear your good news!
That’s fantastic! Congrats on the opportunity.
I’m so happy for you, teebear!
Wearing Selva do Brasil today, which is not exactly a garden (although I’ve seen some jungle-like gardens out there), but the bottle reminds me of a garden.
My kid is running a low fever, and has been for a day or so. Previously it was not even up to 100, but today it’s at 100. Normally, I wouldn’t think anything of it, just a summer cold. But in these COVID times, I AM FREAKING OUT!!!!!! Partner has tested positive for antibodies, (we think based on a “cold” he had months ago) I have tested negative for antibodies. Commence major stress!
Hoping he will be well soon, being young he should OK even if it’s COVID, so try not to worry too much.
I hope it is nothing serious and your kid feels better soon. Sending healing vibes!
Oh yikes, that does sound worrisome! I hope your kid feels better soon! I hope you get the best possible news (very soon) regarding your partner’s test results. 🙂
Fingers crossed it’s not covid. Although it’s said kiddies handle it better than adults if worse comes to worst. Take care of yourself also.
On a different note – does anyone else thing Selva do Brasil is similar to Elizabeth Arden green tea?
@missionista – hope your ok with me talking about perfume when people you are worried about covid. A bit of perfume love / escapism is what we are for?
It’s always worrisome when kids get sick. Wishing a healthier tomorrow for your child.
Sending you the very best of vibes for your little one to recover fast, no matter what it turns out to be!!!
Hope the offspring feels better soon. If it’s any consolation, the antibody tests are notoriously unreliable.
What Deva said about antibody testing. Not to worry you but I’m sure you’ve heard of Kawasaki Disease-like symptoms including high fever, abdominal pain, gastro-intestinal stuff…which could be associated with COVID-19 in kids.
Oh no. Hope that you and your kid are both feeling better soon.
oh man…
Keep us posted
2nd that, do let us know!
Yes, worrisome now… but hoping the fever breaks soon and turns out to be nothing serious.
I jumped on the rose bandwagon today in Mohur extrait. Despite not being a rose lover, I like this one a lot. I caved and made an appointment for a hair cut tomorrow, I just can’t take it anymore. It’s bushy and out of control. Plus, I am out of sorts after a second night of not enough sleep. Reflux woke me both nights before 4 am.
I barely had sleep Sunday night because my first Starbucks in 3 months was made with 4 shots regular and 2 shots decaf, the total opposite of what I asked for … at 5PM.
😯 It’s a wonder you didn’t flatline!
LOL, that’s pretty much what a co-worker said via instant messaging.
Wow. Easy does it.
Posting my SOTD late, it’s Bouquet Imperiale by Roger & Gallet. It’s not a straight-up flowers in a garden, but it’s got bouquet in the name, so that counts! 😀
I was feeling a little low, and found this hilarious video from the Ellen Show. Enjoy the giggle…

This made me laugh?
better late than never
That’s so true!
I’m going into the office today and really looking forward to it. One of my team is going on maternity leave, and we are having a morning tea to celebrate. We were thinking we’d have to Zoom and eat our own baking seperately, but we can now go into the office with cake and see each other for the first time since late March.
Tea for Two is calling out to me today.
Nice that you’re excited about heading back to the office. Hard to imagine that day here in NYC.
Icky, sticky weather here today… heat index was 101F earlier this afternoon. ??
SOTD = Soivohle Dog Star Cologne, from the sample stash. At least I smell good in this summer-weight patchouli. ?
Dogstar was the name of Keanu Reeves band.
“Dog Star” is also the name of Sirius (Alpha Canis Majoris), which is where we get the expression “dog days of summer”.
I did not know this. Interesting.
?⭐ Woof!
It was too hot for me and I was only outside for no ore than 20 seconds.
My trips to the recycling bin, trash bin, and the mailbox were uncomfortable this morning. Glad I didn’t do anything outside this afternoon!
We just had a thunderstorm come through here; maybe it’s heading your way and will bring the temps down a bit. May make the mugginess worse afterwards, though. 🙁
Tomorrow is supposed to be wet and stormy. Not sure how much of a break in temps I’ll see.
Oh! Did I hear patchouli?
You did, but it is d/c’ed. I’m trying to use up samples rather than have them evaporate or go bad.
However, Soivohle does currently have a different patchouli perfume called “Pachou Minimal”.
Scent of the day: Vetiver Tonka
Scent to bed: Couleur Vanille
Mood: bank holiday tomorrow! Planning a late and lazy brioche french toast breakfast with the mister.
i am salivating.
How do you like Couleur Vanilla? I just got a small decant and I’m still trying to figure out if it’s me or not. It’s certainly different.
I’m enjoying it. I like both the lingering, transparently sweet dry down and the salty start. With very few exceptions, I haven’t got a “sweet nose” and for me this hits the mark.
Can understand your indecision because it’s a little different. For me the saltiness is reminiscent of Jeux de Peaux.
It will go on my loooong list, and maybe someday a 10 or 15 ml might be available. But no full bottle.
Side note: why don’t houses do more 15/30ml options?? Is it economically not worth it? Is it exclusivity? Just my luck not to have a vast fortune… (not sure I want a vast fortune, even if i could then purchase an perfume I wanted, thinking of all the potential additional problems in my life if I had a vast fortune!)
Ahh… this has turned into a ramble. Thanks for your patience if you are still reading. ?
I’m trying a Maison Lancôme which I got from Hajusuuri in the Swapmeet, Parfait de Roses. It’s wonderful, rich yet somehow light, pink not red jammy roses. The big event of my day was picking up my co-op share, which includes lots of goodies, local peaches!, corn, spaghetti squash, green beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, and more. I’m eating corn for supper tonight!
Mmmm… sounds delish!
There is nothing like tomatoes in season
Yum! I’m totally drooling over your CSA goodies! ?
I always enjoy reading about your CSA goodies. There are a few people’s account I need to track back when I’m back on IG again.
I joined the rose crew, too, with a bit of Rose Jam shower gel and Quelques Notes d’Amour body lotion this morning. I meant to top up with Rose Anonyme but then never got around to it. If I put my nose right on my arm, I still smell faintly rosy even now.
Appreciation to all who commented on my LOTV and lemon balm issues from yesterday. The explanation about the balm spreading by seed makes perfect sense, given all the places it has popped up. I do enjoy the smell of it, so pulling it out by hand isn’t so terrible… And I’m holding the examples of NSTers’ well-behaved LOTV over the heads of my own plants — maybe social pressure will keep it in line? 🙂
Good to see you back, FearsMice!
Waving back to you —
You must have smelled good, from rosy through faintly rosy. 🙂
Lemon balm has very small flowers that pollinators really like, and then has small seeds that could probably blow around an area when it’s windy, or be easily carried by small animals. I know it can pop up several feet away from where the original plant was. I really like the smell of lemon balm also, so pulling out “extra” isn’t too much of a chore. I’ve seen it listed as an ingredient in herbal tea mixes, if you get very ambitious about using it. 🙂 It seemed like several of us had experience of how mint and related plants can spread. 🙂
Etro Palais Jamais. Such a weird and wonderful perfume. (Mine is more than 10 years old; no idea what it smells like now.) I’m going to have to go search specific perfume blogs, because a general google search is turning up no interesting reviews.
