It's Friday and World Environment Day. Our community project for today: wear a perfume with osmanthus, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Of course I'm in Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan.
Reminder: on 6/12, we're In the garden...wear a perfume that was inspired by a particular garden, or that reminds you of a particular garden, or that just smells like a garden in general. (I think someone suggested this, raise your hand if it was you!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Since my Osmanthe Yunnan is unavailable right now, I’m in Hiram Green Moon Bloom. Gorgeous sunny day here and perfect for it.
PSA: Hiram Green has just announced a new scent to be released June 11, Vivacious. Notes are bergamot, violet, carnation, iris and amber. Can’t wait!!
Oh my! The new scent sounds wonderful! Looking forward to it!
That new Hiram Green speaks to me loudly!
That is something to look forward to!
Wow, that hits a lot of bells for me. June 11, huh? I wonder where it will be available…
I assume the usual spots: Etiket in Canada, Tigerlily/Indigo/Potion Naturals/Luckyscent in USA.
Ah, duh. I will check Luckyscent, that is the one I seem to go to the most…
That sounds fantastic!
Oh that sounds wonderful!
It would be a good one to split…although I’ve found that Hiram Green atomizers are sh-tty for a spray into the atomizer splitting method.
Have you tried syringe splitting? The HG atomizers cooperate very well with syringes + needles. I learned how to do it using YouTube videos a few years ago; it’s really quite simple.
That’s good to know. Tauer’s flash series is also horrible for splitting by spray
I wanted to but have no access to a syringe and needle.
That was going to be my follow up question – where can one get syringes and needles?
I got mine on Amazon! They only sell blunt needles, which is exactly what you need for this. I use 25-gauge needles and 3-mL syringes. I think this is the pack I bought (totally overkill, but I didn’t know what would work at the time, and it was cheap enough to be worth getting it and testing it out): https://www.amazon.com/BSTEAN-Pack-Refilling-Measuring-Applicator/dp/B07RSTQ6RV/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=syringe&qid=1591373289&s=industrial&sr=1-9
I had no idea. Thanks for all this info!
Oooooo well obviously I am going to want to sniff that 🙂 Thanks for the update!
HA, I literally just finished announcing that after seeing it at First in Fragrance this morning…
You are doing a stellar job on announcing new releases, Robin.
That is very kind, but really I am not….I am weeks late with many.
Sorry I didn’t see your post! But more publicity for a lovely indie perfumer is always good in my book.
Oh no, you posted your comment before I posted the article! I just hadn’t gotten over here to the poll yet.
That sounds incredible!
Bright and cheerful photo Robin!
Joining the Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan club today. I had forgotten how refreshing and enjoyable it is.
On my second cup of coffee and counting the hours for the working day to finish. Grey and rainy day, but I will still take my lunchtime walk and get some fresh air.
Happy Friday! ?
House twin!? Happy Friday to you, too!
Thank you! ?. Enjoy your son and the pedicure! You smell great in Mandarine Ambree!
Thanks!?
Hey twin!
? We smell great!
I’m totally off the cp with Hermès Mandarine Ambree. It’s a feeling a bit sticky here this morning. I woke up to gray skies, but they are clearing and the sun is trying to peek through. I’m afraid the rain is headed toward lillyjo, sorry my friend.☹️
My son is headed home for the weekend and I am headed out for a long overdue and much needed pedicure. All in all, it’s shaping up to be a good day. Happy Friday everyone!?
Yep, I see it.. looks like it will move through quickly though.
Have a great weekend with your son!
Oh good, I’m glad!?
Thanks!?
Mr yasmina bought me a pedicure gift card in the Before Times – from what our governor said today it looks like I will finally be able to use it in a couple of weeks. My feet look like a hobbit’s at this point ?
Lol, I was way overdue. I only get them during the summer months, but I’ve been wearing sandals for awhile now and my toes felt “naked.”
Have a fabulous day! A pedicure sounds delightful.
Thanks! It felt so good and now my toes look pretty again. Plus, I got an age compliment which always makes my day.?
Oooh, tippy toes done and a compliment! Very cool. Have fun visiting with your son! ?
Thanks!?
What color did you choose? I am usually paralyzed by the choices.
same here! I stand at the display of polishes and stare, look at the clever polish names to help me make a decision, then take 2-3 bottles back with me to the pedicure chair and finally ask the nail technician: “Which one?” 🙂
I’m Not Really a Waitress by OPI, it’s my summer staple.?
Yay to your long overdue pedicure! 🙂
I couldn’t find that much osmanthus in my collection so I kept saving the best one for Friday.
Osmanthus Interdite is my sotd.
Yep, you do smell fantastic!! For the millionth time, wish PdE would do travel sprays.
Robin, they do, but only for the press. I have received a number of vials from the brand, like this one here: https://www.instagram.com/p/B_IBohuBBX6/
It’s 10 ml and I keep encouraging them to made them available for purchase
Yes, I’ve gotten lab bottles in the past, and I know they’ve also done them as gift with purchase, but not the same! They should sell them.
Hove Tea Olive is my go-to osmanthus and it is just right for today.
Twins! My bottle is very old. I bought it when I moved away from New Orleans so I could remember the huge Sweet Olive tree in my front yard. “Do you know what means to miss New Orleans….”
I got mine on a wonderful trip there, and it always reminds me of the sultry heat.
Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus. I love this cheerful citrusy take on Osmanthus. Heading out for a walk before starting work at my living room desk. Happy Friday, all!
You smell lovely!
Wit is my SOTD. Wish it had made it to the top of my to buy list before it was discontinued. 🙁
On this stressful Friday, I have had a Dunkin Donut coffee role and some of their good coffee….
This weekend, i am going to work in my garden no matter what is going on. I took next Monday off, because the next several week will be busy at my work, so I have a long weekend to do stuff in the garden, and I don’t have to do cooking for the week until Monday.
Almost like a vacation… 🙂 Any excuse to not go to the grocery store until I absolutely have to…
Yesterday, I walked 0.8 miles to Wegmans using the shortest possible route. It was actually difficult keeping the mask on given the humidity but it’s good practice. No line and there and not COVID-crowded. For the first time, I did not feel like having to take a shower right away.
Mask+humidity is making me wish I wore contacts, for the first time in my life.
Thank goodness for small pleasures on a stressful day. I hope your long weekend is extra relaxing.
Ooh! I was planning to revisit Cologne Indelebile today. However, given the advice for Osmanthus- Osmanthe Yunnan it will be for me today!! Everyone enjoy your weekend!
It looks like OY is winning the CP
As well it should 🙂
I’m not on project but if I were I would be like many others in Osmanthe Yunnan.
Instead I’m sampling Musc Ravageur from the swapmeet. This smells so familiar and it’s driving me crazy that I can’t point my finger on it. Chergui maybe? Or is it like Ambre Sultan??
MR reminds me a lot of Le Labo Labdanum 18 or Helmut Lang, probably because they are also by Maurice Roucel and I feel like all three share the same dna.
I will have to dig out my LL sample
LLL18 was one of my first niche experiences and I still love it. It’s more powdery than MR but there’s a definite resemblance. Report back if you try it!
Yes, ditto these. I can also see that amber fragrances like the Lutens might have a similarity as well.
Perfumeshrine has Musc Ravageur as a twin peak with L de Lolita.
Never smelled the Lolita. I’m liking MR but it’s definitely for winter
Definitely for me too, I get a lot of clove in the opening which I associate with fall and winter.
Interesting! I’ve never tried that one, but now I really need to.
Wearing Lyric at the moment. I will ask today about the rally pay today since the person that would know is actually at work today. I will be wearing Kyoto while at work since it is National Donut Day and I don’t want to ruin Hedonist with mean customers.
Do you have customer contact? Eons ago for 2 months in the summer, I worked at a convenience store where we rotated through different parts (although I would have drawn the line at cleaning the bathroom). I hated the deli but loved the cash register. For some reason, either no customers were mean or I had Teflon skin and just went about my business with a smile on my face.
I do have customer contact and there has been a spurt of people who won’t take no for answer or have questions that I can’t answer. But I will get through today, I think Covid is making people crazy.
Au Dela for me today. Happy friYAY! ?
It was Blursday when I woke up ?
It’s hard to keep track of time lately!!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CBDtjv-gTyV/
You might want to check this out Deva, it’s lovely.
Oh, I love the Wolfgang bunch. ❤️
Adorable! Thanks for the link?
You smell glorious. That one made my eyes roll up in my head!
Ha! Me too! The self-professed floral-phobe found true love with this one. It’s just a gorgeous orchestra of scent ?
I am in Patou 1000 which has been pretty popular on NST this week.
Smelling wonderful and classy ?
Miss Dior for me today.
Perfect always.
SOTD: Kilian’s Rolling in Love — total musk bomb on me and will likely take days to not smell like this. I wish the almond note was more pronounced, but overall it’s an OK scent.
What a week it’s been. Tired, weary… like everyone else.
Have you tried Innocent by Mugler? That has a nice almond note…
I have not! Thanks, SmokeyToes (what does that mean exactly?)
, llol! True! Innocent has a lovely (at least on my strange scent-glue skin) milky/honey/almond note. It’s sooo enticing.
Enjoy the weekend! It has been quite the week.
I don’t really have any osmanthus fragrances, so I’m wearing Luctor et Emergo, which I grabbed from a bag of decants.
Oh yum.
Happy FriYAY all! My SOTD is Narcisco Rodriguez Musc oil for her, with osmanthus.
I’m headed out for my morning walk. I ran into a former boyfriend on yesterday’s walk (the hubby was amused at my discomfort…). It was great to catch up with Galen (he’s dreamy), we made plans to get together for a cocktail when it’s prudent to do so. 😀
That’s hilarious!
https://gph.is/1kvCu8k
Ha! Yes.?
?? HA! So perfect…
And due to my sometimes (ok, all the time) open mouth/insert foot, I happily suggested we all get together sometime and catch up. Oof! 😯
Fortunately, Mr. SmokeyToes isn’t the jealous or insecure type, it gave him quite a chuckle. If my SF dating life were a book, it’d be called ‘Single in San Francisco, a diary of grand (Mis)adventures, Mayhem, and Mishaps’.
Good book title!
I love everything about this post. 🙂
2nd!
I am wearing Galop d’Hermes, so I am a house twin of yours, Robin. On Fragrantica, osmanthus is listed as one of the notes. I can also smell a little bit of the Hermes Caleche I put on yesterday evening after a shower.
You smell nice
I have not worn Caleche in ages, I think I will do that this weekend.
Was going to look for my sample of Perris Monte Carlo Osmanthus, but the hand went to SL Vitriol d’Oeillet.
I have been on a Serge Lutens kick more or less since the pandemic started. Maybe my soul has been tortured enough to finally mesh with his perfumes? Although, to me, this one could be Bas de Soie’s sister. Polished and easy wearing.
LOL…I love that reasoning!
Joining the Osmanthe Yunnan Club today.
My conclusion after a week of Osmanthus: not my favourite note. It’s been fun to learn more about though.
Happy Fri-Yay everyone!
Be safe, be kind.
Welcome to the club, but sorry you don’t like it!
That’s ok – it’s the joy of the friday projects for me: an opportunity to learn and do things differently.
🙂
Good morning!
I’m joining lots of you today in Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan.
I would like to post two freebies (both received in previous swaps), which did not end up working for me.
1. Dior Privée Oud Ispahan (about 15 mLs)
2. Robert Piguet Knightsbridge (about 8 mLs)
Please call dibs here and then contact me at arzeznik in the land of comcast with a dot and a net.
Happy Friday all!
Can I do dibs on 1??
Absolutely! And no need to email me. I have your contact info ?
Oh yes, i just remembered we just did a swap! My brain is so scrambled. Thanks!
Dibs on 2 please. Thanks!
You’re very welcome. And you don’t need to email me either ?
Thank you! ??
SOTD is OJ Osmanthus Elixir. Saved the best of my osmanthus scents for last.
I haven’t logged in to work yet and am dreading it. My boss is out, and so is my partner on my main work task, so yesterday I was juggling three jobs. Not looking forward to doing that again today, urg.
But TGIF!!! And it has cooled off! The fog is back, so it’s supposed to be 20 degrees cooler today. Ahhhhh
Save your pennies for the splitmeet! I have a couple of goodies to split 🙂
Hints…hints…for your split items please! I need nothing but I crave everything. ?
I am curious what others will be splitting too…my brain likes clues…?
Something austenfan likes
and
Something new from Guerlain
But austenfan has so many likes!
New from Guerlain….hmm. Did they release a new AA?
Even I don’t know what this could be. The complete perfume polygamist, that is me!
Another clue: neither of these scents is available in the US yet…
Patchouli Ardent?
Nope 🙂
jiji likes the first one too
It must be the new Nicolaï, although the one I tried isn’t her latest. She is launching an Eau de Yuzu this month.
Just realised that Jijj has not yet tried Angelys Pear. I clearly won’t be able to get any sleep tonight, trying to work this one out.
I live riddles but this one i cannot solve (yet)? ?
Ha!
I think I know the first one.
If Austenfan likes it and if I like it…and if its not available in the USA….
Is it a Le Galion? ?
You got it 🙂
That one crossed my mind as well. But I assumed it was availabe in the States, or maybe it’s the only Galion that isn’t.
I have an idea! Is it À ce Soir (Pont des Arts)?
Jiji has not tried A ce soir (I think?)
Ooh what are you splitting? Or is it a surprise?
We’re left alone at work twins today.
I’m SO glad the fog/cooler weather is back! Breathing a huge sigh of relief.
I love it when it suddenly cools down. It’s such a great feeling.
Not much commenting from me lately but I had a staycation this week.
Under pre-covid circumstances we probably would have visited France, italy or spain for 2 weeks.
But now we shortened the period to 1 week and we stayed at home mostly (after a short stay in a B&B in the woods).
And it was pretty nice actually!
I made another horseback riding tour through the woods (on a wonderful Andalusian horse).
I started reading a book about one of my favourite directors Hayao Miyazaki. Its very insightful.
And I watched some interesting movies: The Lodge (a thriller/horror with a nice twist on the evil stepmother trope), The Killing of A Sacred Deer and (for 2nd time) The Favourite.
And yay!!! We are finally getting much needed rain in the Netherlands. ?️?️?️
My SotD is Vetiver Extraordinaire.
Happy weekend everyone!
You smell wonderful and isn’t this rain glorious?
I’m on staycation as well. Else I would have been in France somewhere. Those times will come again, eventually.
Enjoy your staycation!
Yes the rain is glorious.
I was outside this afternoon, it started pouring and i enjoyed getting wet haha. I did not even make an effort to seek shelter ?
I don’t mind rain either in summer. It just does not get as cold and miserable as it does in winter.
I got wet as well, but did seek shelter for a while as I was carrying a cardboard box with tea!
Tea!
Do you know some good tea suppliers/stores/brands available in NL?
i drink more coffee than tea, and I am definitely not a tea connaisseur, but I can always do with some new suggestions.
I love all kinds of teas, from earthy greens to darjeeling, also like smoky. And i dont mind fruits or flowers thrown in.
Oh and I hate pickwick with a passion ? (urgh those things give me a stomach ache).
I have ordered/bought from Thee van Sander (currently out of stock for the most part), Theemaas in Rotterdam, Hotsoup, Betjeman and Barton (Den Haag).
This order was from Mariage Frères. Still my holy grail for perfumed tea.
A leetle to headachy this am for wearing a proper fume. Leaf-blowers, trimmers, and saws began at 7:45 this AM, next door. The noise did nothing for my growing migraine. Inherited Raw Spirit samples from a generous NSTer recently. So scenting the air with Winter Oak only.
My Habinta journey: So, several years ago I bought a bottle, blind, of Habinita on eBay because it was so admired in The Guide. (This was shortly after I really fell down the rabbit hole, entirely due to The Guide, which turned my love for perfume into a full on obsession.) Well, I hated it so much that I promptly turned around and resold it on eBay. However, I only sold it for the shipping price, with the caveat that I thought it smelled horrible and that it might be off. The person who bought it was kind enough to write me that she thought it smelled fine, wonderful even! Years later, I was curious about what I would think of the perfume now. Ordered a decant from StC. Oh glory! To me, it is like cigarettes, powder, leather, and flowers. I love it!
I also like perfumes like Habanita. I call them “matronly” perfumes, the smell of human, flawed but warmhearted women – definitely not girls. Apart from Habanita, I love PR La Nuit, Theo Fennell and for spine stiffening: Cabochard.
And me a matronly, flawed but warmhearted woman! 😀
My neighbor has saws and a wood chipper going. I feel your pain.
Somehow she coordinates with them so that she is never home when they start their motors at 7:45 . . .
I did a similar about face on Shalimar! But after all this waiting, I have given up on Mitsouko.
Have a small bottle of Mitsouko. I’m still trying with Shalimar…
That’s a good friday project (if it hasn’t been done b4, I’m rather new here).
We have done it as a Saturday poll question, but the problem with it as a Friday project is that you’re also supposed to wear the fragrance in question, and many people don’t own the fragrance they gave up on 🙂
The shirt I am wearing is the exact color of today’s picture!
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Love Osmanthus
Meh. It smelled like what I imagine warm watery orange juice tastes like. It got better because I made it disappear with
SOTD = Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka
This is one of my take no prisoners perfumes. It will take over and hide any perfume you don’t enjoy and fix the problem. Maybe it could be a future CP?
In other news, I bought ingredients to make banana pudding to use up my sad looking bananas; however, I may have accidentally mentally spliced together the ingredients for banana pudding and Rocky Road ice cream. Could be interesting ????.
Yuk to warm watery orange juice!
Exactly how I feel about Love Osmanthus – it needs something else to make it interesting.
I couldn’t get into that Malone – felt cloying to me, which is odd since I find most of her line too light. My favorite is the cedar incense one, forget the exact name, but it’s in the black bottle series
? Look what you made me do … I was searching for which perfume you meant (was it Incense & Cedrat?) and I came across:
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Jo-Malone-London/Myrrh-Tonka-Cologne-Intense-55760.html
Naughty!
Haha – sorry not sorry?
But yes that’s the cedar one. Have you smelled it? If not let me send you a decant!
Gorgeous bottle! ❤️
I thought Love Osmanthus was meh too. It had that all too common note in the drydown which grates on my nerves.
Sad looking bananas also make great banana bread, or muffins…or cake.?
I’m still aiming for no bake.
Orange is one of my favorite colors, I bet you are rocking that shirt!
Thank you. It pops on Zoom!
Oh, I love ORANGE! My favorite color. You look and smell marvelous!
Thank you!
I wore all my osmanthus perfumes earlier this week and didn’t feel like a repeat, so today I’m wearing Teatro alla Scala. Ate the first raspberries of the season off the canes yesterday in the back yard, but the slugs got the first strawberries. I sprinkled some diatomaceous earth in the bed so that should help.
Ugh, slugs. They’ve been ravaging out strawberry patch, too, and a bunch of the berries also have squirrel-like nibbles on them >:o Still, we were able to make a leetle berry salad out of our homegrown strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries yesterday 🙂
You guys are way ahead of us here in the woods – I have a bunch of semi-feral raspberries that are just blooming now. I was thinking I should take a couple metal posts out there this weekend and run a line of wire and tame some of them so it will be easier to pick the berries instead of crawling through a thicket!
I’m ruthless at ripping out canes anywhere I don’t want them. I have posts with wire running between them, and anything not behind the wire and six inches from the next cane gets pulled out.
I have a beautiful mini of Teatro – the bottle is gorgeous
All of the Teatro alla Scala bottles are stunning, including the minis. Someone really paid attention in that department.
Teatro all Scala is one of the all time great orientals, and a proper 80s powerhouse. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out Luca Turin had such high opinion of it – it does not have an individual entry, but he mentions it twice in the original Perfume Guide. Are you wearing EdT / EdP or something more intense? I actually have a bottle of the Extrait, but I don’t know if I will ever have enough hazmat equipment on hand to pull that one off.
I’m wearing the edt. My bottle is not much to talk about–it reminds me of the Must de Cartier bottles. Skinny and rectangular.
You smell opulent, I really love that one.
OOOHHHH! You smell glorious. *runs over to sit next to you*
I often think it’s a very close relative to Fendi and Coco, such a beautiful powerhouse of a perfume.
I can highly recommend hanging baskets for strawberry plants!
Good morning and Happy FriYAY!!!!
Complete dumb luck that I achieved the Friday challenge! Reached for Paris Hilton South Beach not having a clue it has osmanthus in the heart notes. YAY ME! This is just a simple summer scent that fades to a skin scent in an hour or so…perfect for work.
Hang tough everybody! We’re going to get thru these hard times and be better human beings for doing so!
“Tough times never last, but tough people do” -Robert Schuller
Great Quote! I will use that!
Ditto!
I love the quote; however, we are where we are because the tough times have endured for quite a while and leaders, movers and shakers have a limited life span both from an in-office, position to make a difference and corpuscular mortality standpoint.
My SOTD is Rahele, I don’t get a lot of Osmanthus out of this, it seems to be very much blended with the other notes. It’s a lovely scent though and one I got on a whim this January as it was heavily discounted. No regrets, it is now my most worn NV.
Tea is a tropical green tea from Palais des Thés. The weather is not very tropical, it’s chilly and raining, but as this country is in desperate need of water I don’t mind.
Love Osmanthe Yunnan, a bit too fleeting for me to wear often, but stunningly beautiful.
I wish they would make an OY body lotion to help with the longevity issue
Or a body oil!
Oh, lotion would be great. Love the Sur Le Nil one, and I do think it lasts longer than the scent.
I’m your scent twin today in Rahele.
I love the smell of Osmanthus as well, and can’t imagine not liking it either.
Don’t we smell great together?
We are scent triplets today!
Hurray! Is that you I’m smelling from across town? 😉
Ha, yes it is!
You smell wonderful! Glad you’re getting much needed rain and hope you enjoy your staycation. I also missed my (May) France trip and wish I were in Nice right about now, drinking some rosé on that pebbled beach ?
Oh, Nice. I spent a wonderful week there in 2018. The weather wasn’t great but I had a truly great time. I would gladly join you there and have some pastis ?
Have you ever visited the Chagall museum there?
Yes, three times, that’s how much I loved it. It’s got the largest collection of Marc Chagall’s work I believe.
Last May we took a day trip to the very picturesque and very touristy St-Paul-de-Vence, about 1 hour bus ride north of Nice, where Chagall spent his last twenty years and where he is buried.
Have you seen the museum?
I have visited the Musée Biblique and loved it. Nice is a great place for museums all round.
I was also lucky enough to visit the large Chagall exhibition in Brussels in I think 2015.
I haven’t (yet) visited St.Paul de Vence. I would love to.
You smell awesome! ?
The cp was not on my mind (obviously), but id have chosen Rahele as well
It is a gorgeous scent.
Lush 100 Kisses Deep solid, which is kind of detergenty at the top but mostly osmanthus marmalade, sweet and stewed. (Stacks well with Rose Jam, too, but not today.)
Sort of twins–I sprayed 1000 Kisses (from before it got deep)
Today I am wearing Alaia Eau Blanche since I don’t have anything with Osmanthus. I have been overwhelmed with work, life and everything else and have not commented in ages, so hello, perfume friends!
Hello! Very good to see you,?
Waving hello
Glad to see you back! ?
Hello! You smell great.
You smell great, such an elegant summer scent.
Good to see you again!
Indeed, nice to see you and I liked the Blanche version of that one…I believe it reminded my of Hypnotic Poison if memory servers.
I will have to try them both and compare but I think I know what you mean!
I do!!! I have a FB of the original actually and a sample of the Blanche. 🙂
Hello, all and thanks!
I found my sample of Journey Woman for the CP, nice, but not my style. At least it has a saffron note, that I like. Have a nice weekend!
You have a great weekend too tannina!
It must be that I don’t care much for osmanthus, since I found only one perfume with it as a listed note. I’m wearing Good girl gone bad. Honestly, I don’t really like it.
I went to the post office today to mail out a swap, and overheard the man next to me say he was mailing perfume. It took all I had to not interrupt his transaction with “what perfume are you mailing?!” I was so curious as to what was in that box!
I will never know, since I chose to not be a weirdo ?
Awww I wish you had asked! It might have been a fun story 🙂 Perhaps you were standing next to an NSTer!
I know! Maybe next time I will have more nerve.
Not sure I could have resisted that temptation!
It was very hard to resist!
Wow, someone who admits that at the post office! I’m impressed at your restraint in not asking him.
I was also admitting it, lol.
You are so funny. 🙂
I try!?
Is it shipped differently somehow if/when they ask?
They won’t ship perfume by airplane. Only ground/truck shipping. Due to it being flammable.
Thanks lillyjo. So it’s ok to say ‘yes’ if asked.
Yes. It will just take longer for it to get to it’s destination.
Like Robin and probably 25 % of all NSTers, I am in Osmanthe Yunnan today. I don’t know, though, the tea really screams on my skin and drowns everyone else out. I don’t reach for it that much, and given how universally loved it is, perhaps I should pass it on. But those travel sprays are just so dang cute, and I love having a full row of Hermessence travel sprays 🙂
On another note, my latest workout spree is doing Chloe Ting’s 28-day summer shred challenge or whatever it’s called. She is really kicking my butt. I do well in a structured workout environment, and having her tell me what to do for four weeks will be good for me. Let’s see if I can turn this four-pack into a six-pack, eh? (No, that’s not going to happen, but I do hope my four-pack will be more clearly defined!)
I’ve been trying to figure out why I work out so much, given that I hate it. I’ve decided that it’s because it lets me control what my body looks like. I’ve worked out a good system for getting tangible results through working out (weight loss, muscle definition), and in such an uncertain time, with rampant death at the hands of viruses and bad people, it helps to have something to control.
**whispers** oooh, Chloe might be good for me, I like to be told what to do.
yesterday I went for a hike in the nature preserve near me. A woman was walking out as I went in, her tank top said “burpees hate you too” in big bold letters. Made me laugh.
Yes, give her a try! We can motivate each other 🙂
That is such a funny shirt 🙂
I used to get this same result from Osmanthe Yunnan; all I got for a while was a fairly rough tea whenever I wore it. And then things just changed, and the osmanthus returned. I don’t know why – maybe different body lotion? Anyway, maybe you can keep your full row for a while yet…
Interesting, good to hear it’s not just my nose/skin! I hope that happens for my nose soon.
My daughter is doing one of these by her as well – a two week ab one? Made my poor husband join her for a couple sessions, too!
I do a lot of Pilates workouts these days, from a subscription I have had for years to a German studio. Because of bandwidth issues, I can only do them when nobody else in the house is online yet – here’s an advantage to teenager who sleep until noon. It helps with mood boosting for me (any exercise really, but I really like those German trainers).
Nice! I hope she forced him to join in on the 500 ab rep video. That one…sucks.
How cool! I hate Pilates but it seems very effective. What do you like about the German trainers?
It was a hard video, or maybe several videos (I took a video of them working out, but nobody appreciated that).
I think what I like about the German trainers is that they speak German. They are mostly studio owners, probably often in their 30s – 50s. And culturally, they just aren’t as perky as the young and fabulous people that my daughter likes. 🙂
LOL! I don’t like young and perky either, I am neither. My favourite yoga teacher was a German guy, I like the stern get the job done attitude.
I looked up Chloe and she really has a nice physique I say as a hetero somewhat envious female. 😉 I have almost all of the Hermessence travel sprays too.
I find her physique to be very aspirational!
OJ Osmanthus but I will probably add something later w/ vanilla to the mix. 😉
I am curious what people are splitting tomorrow and would love some clues please…?️♀️
Well, knowing that you are the ‘vanilla queen’, you probably already have this one, but I’m splitting Guerlain SDV ?
Yay! That is a good one. 🙂
I’m in PdN Fig Tea, with a little spritz of Philosykos to amp the fig. It’s a good combo. I loved the last of the OJ Osmanthus I tinked yesterday, so will be reading everyone’s choices for today with interest.
tink! 😀 that’s a wonderful sound.
Yesterday I wore SL Datura Noir just because I saw it and was in the mood for it. I sprayed with abandon. I just find it so beautiful–I adore datura as a note. Then I got curious about something and looked up the notes for it on Fragrantica and, sure enough, it lists “Chinese osmanthus” among them! I seem to be one of the few real osmanthus lovers on this board, and I have a lot of fragrances with it in. It’s funny, I don’t understand at all why anyone could not love it. But that’s how it is among this wonderful world of smells!
Thank you for your detective work! **Off to find bottle **
Another osmanthus lover here 🙂
I love osmanthus too. Every time I pass the big datura bush down our road I think of you. It is in full flower but I can’t smell anything so there must be different varieties.
How was your mother? I hope she can get help with her eyes.
Oh yes I would love to see that bush. Wow. I don’t know more yet about my mother, and am waiting for a call back. Thank you for asking.
P.S. On another note, my poor sweet kitty not only has a very nasty problem with her gut/digestive system, but also likely cancerous tumor in a lymph node. The doctor has advised against trying to do surgery on it due to her general age and ill health. Meanwhile I’m trying to make her gut more happy, by among other things, giving (or trying to give her) Metamucil (psyllium). He said be sure not to buy the orange flavored kind!
My pick is all natural Liquid Dreams by April Aromatics. Crystalline, dreamy and very much osmanthus centric with tea notes and tendrils of apricots and leather, and added depth from narcissus absolute.
This sounds really wonderful!
I pulled out my Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan for the cp today. It’s my last bottle from a travel set, and I haven’t worn it in ages; I honestly thought it had turned.
It’s lovely, though! Enjoying it very much!
They don’t seem to turn very quickly…I have yet to lose a Hermes travel spray!
Since I haven’t really got the hang of what osmanthus smells like yet, I just had to go with what it said on the tin (or, at least, on the website). I therefore opted for Oliver & Co.’s Vetiverus which is supposed to be just as much an osmanthus scent than it is a vetiver one.
I was planning on wearing Journey Woman, which has Osmanthus, I am not sure when osmanthus makes its appearance because I am not sure exactly what is smells like it….
Like a flowery apricot.
SotD = Osmanthe Yunnan
because Yes to Hermes! and because I’m predictable like that. 😉
OY wasn’t my thing when I first smelled it long ago (leathery tea? no thanks), but today it’s very appealing. There’s a bit of a hairspray thing going on for the first 30 seconds, which I don’t mind. Hairspray brings childhood memories of my mum’s teased hair-do. Once the alcohol evaporates the pretty florals and fruit come out strong (for a Hermessence scent).
This OY sample is among the very first samples I bought way, way back (from The Perfumed Court!) as a new little fume bunny. I’m glad I saved the sample, and that it didn’t evaporate.
Wearing OY gave me an excuse to get out all the Hermessence samples and sniff. For days I’ve been trying to remember which one got on my nerves. It’s Epice Marine, gosh that’s a weird scent, something I’d love to get someone to wear on a dare.
Happy Friday, fragrance friends. Let’s keep it real, you smell like heaven.
Yes to Hermes!!
there ought to be a t-shirt, I’d wear it!
Remember “Calm Down” from 2 years ago. You can make your own T-shirt.
yes! must do this 😀 a Yes to Hermes t-shirt with the silhouette of a perfume botle
I’ve got a sample of OY but didn’t go for it, as it’s just not my cup of tea, ha ha.
exactly! when OY gives me tea it’s a no, today’s florals are a yes 😀
it’s the opposite for me ? tea please, florals meh.
Really??? I LOVE Epice Marine. What a great cardamom scent!
heh heh, i get lots of whiskey and ocean and not enough spice, but I’ll have to try Epice Marine again. 😀
I had to search high and low for an Osmathus scent. According to Basenotes there’s Osmanthus in 1000 Kisses (deep) by Lush, so that’s what I’m wearing. Although it focusses more on mandarin and labdanum.
I have been looking for my travel spray of that with no luck! I should try again tomorrow.
I’m in the last of my bottle of Wood Sage and Sea Salt (thunk!) and about to submit my final grades on the last day of school. There’s chilled sparkling rose’ in the fridge and I will apply Osmanthe Yunnan before popping the cork (the WSSS will be gone by then).
Very curious about the split meet! Can’t wait to see what’s being offered.
It’s nice to have something nice to look forward too
You smell great! Enjoy your rose’, you’ve earned it! My parents are both retired teachers, so teachers will always have a very special place in my heart.☺️
Lovely NSTers, thanks so much for your kind and sympathetic comments yesterday. You do my heart good. 🙂
Not having worn perfume for months, I decided to take it easy on my re-entry today, with a small spray of vintage Houbigant Le Parfum Ideal, shared by a sweet NSTer some time last year, I think. It’s a soft powdery carnation to my nose, especially pleasing as I look at the dianthus blooming in the back yard.
Waves and hugs to all.
Great idea to start with a fail-safe perfume
Hi FearsMice,
I didn’t see your post yesterday (just went back to find it). I join the others in sending you a hug and hope that you’ll continue to visit when you can and spray away if it helps at all – sometimes it does help me “decorate” my day (was that Tania who said that?) and sometimes I just can’t. But I miss seeing you around and hope you can hang in and come back to us soon.
Carnation is lovely, hope your day went well in it.
Wonderful to see you! 🙂
? carnation!
I’d used up my sample of Fig Tea, so instead I did a sniff-off of Hermes Agar Ebene and Heeley Agarwood. The Hermes smells just like Cuir d’Ange to my nose. The Heeley has a bit more complexity to it, although it smells like it would better suit an autumn day.
I tried an Agar Ebene sample – found it really unique, hard to describe. I both liked it and didn’t like it. Probably should have kept it, but I passed it on so someone else could try.
I didn’t like Cuir d’Ange although I can’t tell you why except that leathers are always iffy for me.
I quite like Agar Ébène but not Cuir d’Ange, they are different to me.
Participating in Daim Blond but I had planned to layer it with AP l’Agent for even more osmanthus but could’t locate my bottle, anyway DB is behaving very elegantly, it’s a tailored kind of scent and fits well with the rainy weather today.
I love that perfume too and considered it for today, but went with Rahele instead, which I hadn’t worn for a long time, and now I’m enjoying it a lot.
Almost twins then, I don’t know Rahele but bet you smell great.
Lol it’s so hot out that I am commando. Triple digits already gettin a little old lol. Lime Cucumber Gatorade has helped.
I had such a yummy dessert at a cafe..two peanut butter cookies with peanut butter and jelly in the middle?.
A cheesy haiku lol:
His mouth, honeyed sun
His arms, a perfumed retreat
His soul, rests with mine
I LOVE that Gatorade. I’ve only tried it once and can never find it since!
Aww, I like your haiku. It’s not cheesy at all. ❤️
Lol thanks:). ?
OMG that dessert sounds good. I love pb cookies.
After long perusal of Fragrantica’s list of perfumes containing osmanthus notes, I realized I don’t own a single one. I do have a small sample of Papillon Angelique, and I was all set to wear that, but then completely forgot it was Friday, and sprayed Jardin sur le Nil liberally instead.
Ah, then you do smell great! I just put some of the Nil lotion on my legs after mentioning it above.
Good afternoon, folks! 🙂
Found the little decant of Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus that a lovely NST person sent to me. (Thank you!) This is one of the ones I get what I perceive as a “Play-Doh” note from. Maybe that’s how I’m interpreting what others get as a soft leathery/fruity note? idk
I hope everyone has a decent weekend!
That’s interesting. I don’t think I have ever thought of a play-doh note with this one, but I’ll see if I can find it in there.
Happy Friday, everyone! I’m requesting double points: wearing Ashoka on my left and Rahele on my right. Both of them started out rather beeeeeg, but I’m getting the osmanthus in the drydown of both, especially the Rahele. I’ve noticed that the note shows up on my skin during the drydown more than the initial spray.
Big hugs to all of you today. ?
You smell wonderful Nancy! Hugs back you ?
You smell great!
I started reading Ndre Leon Talley’s memoir yesterday (US Vogue/ fashion) and he used the adjective ‘tony’ to describe a neighbourhood ( as in swanky ) . I have never heard anyone use that word here and wonder how common it is in America?
I am off on an adventure for the weekend, about 3 hours inland to my brothers, just checking snowfall warnings…should be okay ….but wintery and beautiful. We have to sort out my mother’s estate a bit now that business is resuming. Dreading it. But it is also his birthday so there will be wine!
Wearing CDG Sherbert Cinnamon for a dash of spice on one wrist and Daim Blond on the other
‘Tony’ is one of those words I see in writing but never hear anyone use in speech. I wonder what other words fall in that category.
Hope your visit is as positive as can be. Plus, wine 🙂
People used to say it, but maybe 20-ish years ago? But I have not heard anybody say it in a long time.
Kanuka, I ordered that oolong today, I should get it next week. It was a bit expensive but hopefully like most oolongs will stand up to multiple infusions.
Hope the trip goes better than you’re expecting, or that the wine really helps 🙂
I saw a movie documentary last year about ALT, need to look for his book. Good luck with the sorting, at least you will have moral support (brother and wine). Happy birthday to him!
Osmanthe Yunnan for the win!
I am mostly in the garage today, painting bookcases with DIY chalk paint. I got it into my head to “refresh” the decor in my bedroom, and I’m going for lots and lots of neutral creams, beiges and whites. I’m at that point where I’ve gone too far to turn back, but regret actually starting such a silly project.
Happy Friday, everybody!
I hope you’ll feel the end result will have been worth the labor!
2nd Eschmeling, hope it looks gorgeous when you’re done! I detest painting, which is all I do lately, but I am SO pleased when things look fresh and new. My husband likes to point out that the sense of being pleased doesn’t last, but a new color or coat usually pleases me for 4-5 years, so I think that is worth it.
TDC Osmanthus. I was looking for something else in The Sample Sea and bumped into this one. Meh. I was looking for Pavillon d’Or, then also saw Geisha Botan. My brain insists that both Dusita and Aroma M have an osmanthus in the line, but it’s not these. Lacking the bandwidth to research, I just went ahead and added a dab of both. I’m fondly remembering my days of Reeking Havoc. Hugs to all…
I really liked the TDC once upon a time, but its shelf life was poor (perhaps because I had a split and it wasn’t in its original bottle).
Hope you are nicely faded by now 😉
Funny thing is I ended up really liking the drydown of the TDC! Thank you, I am nicely faded. ?
I’m off topic, even though I love Osmanthus in theory. In Nuits a Doha, from the swapmeet, which I just love! I could wear this every day, hot, cold, work, home….I tried finding more afforable clones, but so far, no dice. Hdp Marquis de Sade has similar notes, but I don’t like it as much.
Other “feminine-ish” tobaccos I should look for? Or is the immortelle that is making me swoon?
In other notes, finally went to the mountains yesterday for a hike, it was lovely, devoid of people, and we got terribly lost. Luckily, husband has better map-reading skills than I do.
If it is the immortelle, I’d recommend checking out Goutal’s Sables, or Atelier Cologne’s Blanche Immortelle. For a really inexpensive alternative to Nuit a Doha, I’d also suggest Vertigo Cuir, by Kyse Perfumes, which to my nose has a similar vibe, with its combo of leather and caramel. Eschmeling, are you in the US? If so, I can send you a sample of the Vertigo Cuir, to see if it strikes you in a similar manner.
I am in the US, thanks for offering! I think I have figured out what it is – the drydown smells like the high sierras on a hot day. Or any dry, hot pine-heavy woods. I’d love to try Vertigo Cuir, although I am justifying to myself that a scent that replicates the Sierras is worth splurging on…
Thanks for the other suggestions as well.
Send me your deets, and I’ll mail out the sample – you can reach me at lisadarty in the land of the haute mayle!
SOTD is YR Naturelle Osmanthus layered over Dame Perfumery Osmanthus Perfume Oil to heighten that suede/y, apricot-y note I love so much. Count me in the among the osmanthus lovers! The Dame osmanthus oil is a must for osmanthus lovers, and both of YR’s Naturelle scents are summer favorites of mine- light and breezy, a bit citrussy, a bit floral, and a little grassy – like a sunshiney afternoon in a meadow.
Although my lilacs are gone, bonus lilacs hanging over the fence from my neighbor’s yard have joined my peonies and iris that are finally in bloom. They sure do look pretty in their vases and give my heart a lift each time I see them. Like many of you, recent events and the civil unrest that followed (so close here in one of Chicago’s inner-ring suburbs) after all the Covid-19 stress has left me emotionally exhausted this week. But a few words from my wise yoga teacher the other day once again helped me put things in perspective: ‘observe but don’t absorb.’ Yes, that definitely helped; hope it helps you.
Hot and sticky this week but should be a beautiful cool and sunny weekend. Can’t wait to turn off the a/c and open the windows. Hope your weekend is a beautiful one, too!
I ordered some samples from Dame which for some reason I hadn’t really tried during Memorial Day weekend and the Osmanthus was all sold out so it is obviously quiet popular. 🙂
Totally off CP all week as my fledgling perfume collection has no osmanthus, but did burn my Diptyque Shanghai candle with its osmanthus note for today’s work Zoom tho. It helped me maintain outward equilibrium, if not inward.
The show creation I’m helping with has had to push dates at least 6mo but is looking to “Covid-proof”… by turning from a more tightly structured 75-min show format into a 120-min performance-art installation that would balloon the set and props budget and potentially necessitate hiring 1-2 more artists, in an environment where no one has money right now.
I get why that structure may work better for a socially-distanced cast and audience but I think I need to bail on this one and put my cards on going back to school this fall. I love the artistic director and the artists involved in this project, but I just can’t see them being able to pay me for my work when the budget was already scraped bare.
But, that makes my decision easier! So next week will be about getting my transcript printed and scanned somewhere, so I can apply to the program I’m looking at!
I googled your candle and it looks divine. 🙂
I am intrigued by your show comments and do sadly wonder what will happen w/ Broadway, plays and other live performances now… 🙁
The candle IS magnificent! I have a best friend that collects the Diptyque city exclusives and so when I was performing in Shanghai he asked me to get one for him. I looked up the notes out of curiosity and promptly got myself one too – oops!!!! No regerts hahaha.
CP & SOTD: Narciso Rodriquez Narciso for Her.
( I had to look up notes as I don’t own much Osmanthus full disclosure)Howeve I do REALLY like OJ Osmanthus Elixir.
I am participating in a live Zoom Happy Hour Sniffapaloooza with Arielle Shoshana tonite hence the theme alcoholic/non alcoholic notes in perfume. We have some wonderful samples to play with.
I am so excited and hope to see the DC crowd in attendance.
Cheers (haha!) ?
I want a full report! I wonder if she’ll post it on her YT channel…
Ari has been so incredibly innovative in the way that she’s handled business during the pandemic, I really admire her spirit!
I am on the west coast but got her email on this and hope it’s wonderful…do report in tomorrow on the fun. 🙂
Super late due to a long day at work. SOTD was Ganymede.
Hope you have a work-free weekend coming up?
CP SOTD is Fracas. Whew, I just squeaked through on this one. It’s apparently the *only* scent I have with an osmanthus note.
I’m in the middle of a stretch of long, stressed days, and I can’t think of anything else to say except that I hope all you fab people are having a good Friday. Happy Weekend!
Fellow tuberose-wearer, you smell great. 🙂 Hope you have a nice restful weekend and less stress.
Hooray for tuberose! I haven’t smelled Moon Bloom, but it looks lovely based on the notes. Thanks, cazaubon—wishing you a relaxing weekend, too.
Running late again today, plus more yucky weather. On the plus side, cell phone service was restored sometime today. I’ve had a stretch of stressful days, and am glad to see the end of this week. ⚡?
SOTD = Narciso Rodriguez for Her EdT. I have an adorable 10mL travel spray of this one. Thanks again to the NSTers who mentioned that it had osmanthus in it!
Wow, what a long wait for cell service, that’s crazy! Glad you have it back.
You smell fantastic! NR is an all-time favorite for me. I hope this weekend banishes that stress!
Late in posting! Where did this day go? I was up early to be at Whole Foods by 7 am opening. I predict a relatively early bedtime tonight.
Bande à Part by Jolie Laide for the CP. As a natural scent, this doesn’t have the best lasting power, but it’s a good one.
I don’t know where this day went either…hope I get more done this weekend.
Hi all! Wearing Liquid Dreams for the cp. It’s very pretty and has excellent development while it lives its short life, but it’s gone in 3 hours. Would never have known osmanthus was there if Fragrantica didn’t tell me so. Also I thought Boxeuses did have osmanthus but apparently not. I guess I don’t really know osmanthus despite trying several scents with the flower in the name
Today is the Friday that starts my vacation week; my idea is to hike at a different state park each day. We’ll see how it goes!
That sounds like a great plan, hope you are able to do it!
