Hump Day and World Cocktail Day, plus a very happy birthday to Stevie Wonder! What fragrance are you wearing?
My fragrance family for the rest of the week: new wave summer colognes. Today I'm in Guerlain Mandarin Basilic.
Reminder: 5/15 is the International Day of Families. Name your favorite fragrance family, and wear one or more fragrances in that family, OR, make up your own fragrance family (like, say, wood pudding), define it for us, and wear the best example of that family.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Shalimar
Soaking and boiling beans to make African Peanut Stew for dinner.
trying out a new foundation, Armani crema nuda
Ciao amici
Mmmm. Peanut stew sounds delicious.
I hope so, its a new recipe
Hope it turned out! I cooked a new recipe tonight as well: lamb tagine, though I don’t have a tagine so just did it in a dutch oven. Plus, not enough lamb so did half beef.
Ehh, it’s okay but lacking some oomph. Too watery, and I used only 4 cups vs the requested 6. I’ll do some more recipe research and keep tweaking!
This Shalimar is the vanille flanker, forgot to add.
I wore this one for our date night (at home) on Saturday and Mr L, who has no sense of smell, said to me ‘wow you smell good’
Are you reading this Guerlain. Must. Bring. Vanille flanker. Back.
agree! I hope that an intern at Guerlain is frantically taking notes for Thierry Wasser 😀
Never mind the intern – Thierry Wasser himself!
???
Exactly!
Have not had peanut stew in years…hope the recipe turns out!
Sounds delicious! We are soup twins. I’m having Tunisian black eyed pea with coconut curry soup for dinner. ?
No way! This is amazing
Let me know how yours turns out
If it’s good I would be interested in the recipe. Actually, to both of you!
You make so many unusual dishes. I feel exotic when I make eggplant parm. ?
Italian food..you are after my heart..
Well, I made tuna casserole. It is nostalgic comfort food for both of us, and low-stress to make, but won’t win any medals for daring or for international flair.
You smell like perfection, of course.
I really mean to wear a different oriental perfume, but Shalimar keeps falling into the palm of my hand.
I think these days its just comforting and sexy, all at the same time.
Sto aspettando ancora alla bottiglia di Shalimar dei giardini..
Quando la visto, dirglela.
La bottiglia in francia?
Che bella!
Shalimar is really its own fragrance family : )
Agreed.
Hump day already? The days just seem to melt together lately….
Perfume Grinch is off work today, so I wore a spring scent that wears a bit louder than my normal office wardrobe…..Vera Wang Look. This is just a nice crisp green floral!
I’ve been loving your ’30 scents in 30 days’ on Insta!
Glad you can wear a scent that the Perfume Grinch would disapprove of
?
YAY!! I was hoping people weren’t getting sick and tired of my face on their feed! (Some probably are though!) LOL
No we’re not. Always enjoy your IG ?
Agree! I always watch, Jada!
Did my walk super early today. Gearing up for my Google meets. Yesterday I did 12… ugh!
Wearing St Clair Scents LE spring release Pharaoh’s Passion…on my skin it’s sweet and musky.
On the fence about whether or not I need to replace my confiscated Brit. One part of me says wait ? and another says get it now ?
My mom is a retired speech pathologist. What age do you work with?
I’ve work in early intervention through geriatric in the past 26 years. Currently working with severely impaired ( mostly autistic) elementary age. So you can imagine how my Google meets are going ?
tell me more about Pharaoh’s passion..
Notes are coriander, cardamom, bergamot, Turkish rose absolute, Jasmine Sambac, ylang ylang, geranium absolute, benzoin, labdanum resin, frankincense, Vetiver, cedarwood and musks.
It’s sweet, a bit spicy and musky. Quite lovely.
That’s the St. Clair fragrance that appealed to me the most. Sounds great!
I love them all!!
Gardner’s Glove was a scrubber for me, but I love the others.
??
Hope you’re enjoying a relaxing evening after your marathon of meetings!
Thank you!!!
“Smells like California” family week continues with California Reverie. I was planning to save it until Friday but it’s so nice I wanted to wear it today.
World cocktail day? My kind of holiday! I may need to get some ingredients for something fun to celebrate it.
I love CR, you smell great!
I am planning on making Dark n Stormy’s this weekend, first to find ginger beer!
CR is so good! 🙂
Mmmm, you smell purdy!
You smell nice- CR is so fleeting on me though
Just switched out my more winter or cozy scents for spring and some summer. CR is out of the cabinet, so I’ll be joining you soon.
In Ummagumma today and waiting, waiting, waiting for deliveries… Happy Humpday and here’s to hoping your deliveries arrive sometime this century?
Online shopping is definitely “sub-Prime” right now! Perhaps this is the boost the USPS has been praying for to save them??? 🙂
House cousin today in Feu Secret, and you smell fabulous!
Finally got en email today that my GaP khakis have shipped. Bought them three weeks ago.
And…the paint-by-numbers kit I ordered 8 weeks ago and stopped payment on arrived yesterday (from China). Oops. Gotta figure out how to reverse the credit.
Ummagumma is sooooo good.
My Sephora order finally came after nearly a month!
Positively swimming in no. 22.
you positively smell gorgeous
No 22 is wonderful. Is it the edt, edp or extrait?
Extrait. I only have a little, but I’m feeling very Life’s Too Short these days.
It’s a pity that Chanel is pricing themselves out of the market with the Les Exlusifs line. Chanel isn’t even niche.
You smell divine!
Lovely!
You smell marvelous!
I’ve decided that I’m dedicating this week to white florals and today’s choice is Le Labo Lys (can’t remember the number). It’s really nice.
I love that perfume. Lys 41? I bought it in Berlin and it just shouts “happy memories!” ever y time I wear it.
Lys 41 it is! It’s very pretty and very cheerful.
Lys 41 is gorgeous!
I’m wearing an “I wish it was Summer” scent. Piled on Bronze Goddess today with the shower gel, body creme and eau fraiche skin scent.
As I go stuff my chilly toes in wool-lined slippers, I definitely share your sentiment!
But, my region needs water so I should be grateful for the rain.
Bronze Goddess Bonanza – nice.
We are twins for inspiration, at least! You smell great.
A great scent family, you smell summer holidays.
Can you describe the difference between Bronze Goddess and the eau Fraiche?
Thanks, summer is on the brain.
Yessss!!! Love BG and you do smell like summer!
Starting today in Bottega Veneta Bottega Veneta. After doing a bunch of sampling, felt the need for a known (loved) quantity.
Beaufort London Iron Duke yesterday was scrubber territory. Has some super strong wood note that overpowers all else for my nose. Wood isn’t listed, but a review mentioned oud as a possibility.
I think my problem with woods mostly arises when used in concentration. Because there are plenty of scents in the “woody” category our with wood supporting notes that I like. Trying to pin this down is so hard!
MONDAY: Chanel Cuir de Russie, Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours, Memo Moroccan Leather
TUESDAY: Knize Ten, J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin Leder 6, Molinard Cuir, ELDO Tom of Finland, Beaufort London Iron Duke
Wow, I salute your sampling! You smell marvelous today. I love Bottga Veneta on a rainy day.
And now I’m in Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours. Love them both. I have an FB of this, need an FB off the original… enjoyed it so much today I didn’t feel the urge to switch it up during my lunch break.
I’m in Kiehl’s original musk today. Reviews on this one are all over the place. Some get dirty, some get clean. I’m in the clean camp.
I got an email Monday reminding me that there’s no school today. LOL?
Good grief. Glad they reminded you.
I find it to be more on the dirty side but the cleaner side of dirty.
Versus the dirty side of clean? ?
Too my nose, it’s still slutty but not slutty like vintage BaV or MKK. I still refuse to get a sample of Secretions Magifique, so I can’t comment there. Keihl’s is sensual.
I wore that one YEARS ago and remember it being very clean on me.
selective musk anosmia, lol 😀
Scent twins!!! You smell great
Squeaky clean!
Continuing with my lilac week in Pacifica French Lilac.
Another cold but sunny morning. We are expecting temps to go up to the 80’s on Friday. Yay! Looking forward to it!
Driking my second cup of coffee and ready to immerse myself in work documents I am reviewing.
Happy Wednesday, everyone!
We had twenty degrees this morning. I kid you not. Frost on our lawn. Yuck! Still walked, though. Two miles.
Lilac is one of my favorite notes. Pretty sure I gave you a sample of Brigitte. You could wear it this week if you’re doing lilacs ????
Brigitte is a gorgeous lilac perfume. I loved it and thunked the sample last year, otherwise it would be part of my lilac week. ???
It is warm and beautiful outside today. Hope the temperatures keep going up. ???
That means I need to give you more whenever you are ready for another sample ???
I took advantage of a cooler weather to wear Or du Serail, which was mentioned quite frequently in the comments lately. Oriental yumminess.
I love that one – you smell divine.
Dyptique Vetyverio from a sample which I though I really liked but today somehow smells like plastic ?
My younger sister wears this, and it’s consistently great on her. On me it’s hit or miss—sometimes lovely and sometimes sort of sour.
Happy hump day! I haven’t decided on my fragrance family but happily wearing SSS Winter Woods today – from a lovely NST perfumista – yay!
Ironically, Wednesdays were always my one day per week to work from home and today I’m driving into the office for the first time in over two months. Just a brief stop (with mask!) to pick up plants/clothes/files/tidy desk. It will feel a little odd. I don’t expect anyone else to be there. On the plus side, parking is free for a bit.
Enjoy your time in the “outside world”
Yay!!! So glad you are loving it!!! Isn’t it great in warmer weather?
Today is a bit cooler and I still love it!
???
I am wearing L’Artisan La Chasse aux Papillons and drinking a cup of green tea.
I guess my fragrance family this week has been “Easy Like A Sunday Morning” . It started with Monday, Chanel No 5 and then Tuesday, AG Nuit Etoilee. And now with Chasse aux Papillons today. These fragrances are not “in my face”, just easy to wear and easy to love — for me, at least 🙂
Great category
ah! that is a wonderful perfume family (and song) 🙂
Clever choice of a category and a lovely SOTD.
Love the category and La Chasse. Chanel No5 has never been easy for me, I always feel like it wears me rather than the other way around even if it smells sooo beautiful.
That’s a great category, and I love the fragrances you’ve chosen! ??
I agree on No. 5 and La Chasse, but I haven’t tried Nuit Etoilee. I think i should make it a priority!
I should say, , I struggled with No 5 until I hit 40, then suddenly I NEEDED it.
Today I’m wearing Parfum Dusita’s Le Pavillon D’Or and drinking my third cup of Stash Chai Green Tea. I am at work and no one has complained about my perfume.
Do they usually complain?
Woke up bathed in vintage BaV but I am in LADDM post shower. My friend and I decided to hold off getting together on Friday. Too many people got up in arms on his side. We both got a little annoyed with that. Looking at Tauer offerings on Luckyscent right now.
mmmmm, laddm is perfect. 🙂
Next time don’t tell anybody and just do it. 🙂
Still doing spring scents here. Yesterday was Vilhelm A Lilac A Day. Today is Eric Buterbaugh Apollo Hyacinth, which I adore.
We’re scheduled to get a fighter jet flyover around 11am. One of my neighbors posted the info on our community FB group and specifically tagged another neighbor who routinely has a FB spaz about airplane noise but somehow can’t tell the difference between a single 737 and an entire squadron of fighter jets, lol. Maybe if she looked out the window…
Omg, this made me laugh ?
Hey Pixel! I’ve been meaning to email you to check in. So funny about the flyover. It was quite loud here in dingley dell. My younger son came running down the stairs wanting to know what on earth was all that racket. I didn’t know about the scheduled flight, but it was definitely fighter jets. Makes me feel like we are neighbors 🙂
Hey you! I have been meaning to email you as well 🙂 It turned out to be more of a fly-by here. We could see the planes but they were a long way off, heading towards Monterey.
SotAM = Guerlain Cologne du Parfumeur
SotPM = Prada Infusion d’Amande is on deck for later today.
I woke up this morning thinking of Cologne du Parfumeur. It’s fun when that happens.
CdP has a dry-herbal-green note that is a surprise every time I wear it. Some reviews say it’s rosemary, some say grass. For me it’s sage, a smell I often encounter while hiking. Sage grows wild around here. 😀
I will go for a hike one day soon. The trails near me have opened. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I want to get out, but I wonder how mobbed the trail areas will be after a couple months closed.
Monday was L’air du Temps, Tuesday was CBIHP Tea Rose Water perfume, today is a straight up cologne. Something tells me my perfume family for the community project is colognes and cologne-adjacent perfumes.
In other silly news:
Breakfast was oatmeal + oat milk + frozen blueberries with a cup of sturdy Twinings Irish Breakfast tea to warm me up.
It’s cold this morning, but I refuse to run the furnace in May. The sun will heat up the house very soon.
I’m obsessing about Hermes scarves again. Thank you, Dr. Birx, for keeping things classy:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B_WCehJJgGo/
I pushed my exhausted self through an hour of yoga yesterday, and it paid off in boosted energy today! Time to git-a-move-on.
Hope everyone finds a moment of peace/calm/rest/joy/whatever you need today. And don’t touch your face! 😀
I have discovered that I literally can’t avoid touching my face short of tying my hands behind my back. Argh.
I have also discovered that if it is cold in May, I am going to turn on the heat every single day! My lame excuse: the sun does not warm up my stone house fast enough. More truthful: it makes me mad to have to bundle up inside in May.
We might go for a hike this afternoon, as it’s supposed to warm up, but if not hopefully I will copy your yoga workout!
same for me, the last time I went food shopping I kept count and touched my face THREE TIMES, at least that’s how many I noticed. Ugh.
Hope you enjoyed an outdoor afternoon warm up with hiking, or maybe warm indoor yoga! I decided to bike today, I’ll save the hiking trails for next week.
Nice hike in the sun! So hopefully yoga tomorrow.
That scarf is so beautiful and she wears it so well! The colors suit her perfectly.
I thought the same. The peach color is strikingly good on her.
I love her style! She stands out in a good way. The colors she chooses are genius. 😀
Do you have an Hermes scarf? I have a small collection that I cherish and wear often (at least I used to when I had places to go, people to see!)
I wish I had one 😉 and someday I will. Intricately designed textiles have always fascinated me.
My first one was handed down from an aunt, but the others I found on Ebay and Poshmark……I like them well loved! The silk is amazing and the colors just beautiful, they make you feel very elegant when wearing them (sort of like visible perfume!)
I feel like successful scarf-wearing is a genetic trait I didn’t inherit.
I wore a old butterfly scarf yesterday by Gucci. Not an Hermes..but here it is..https://images.app.goo.gl/d7GAhEQKbnF6i96Q8
That’s beautiful!
Thank you!
THAT is a beautiful scarf! I adore butterflies. 😀
me too..and the blue border is very easy to match with different shirts and blouses. Even can match it with a denim button down shirt, white jeans, tres chic
Lovely…would fit right in with my collection!!
Thank you so much for all the lovely birthday wishes yesterday!!! ??
I did have time to reply, but I read them all!
I had a nice evening, we had take away ‘roti’ (flatbread with spicy potatoes, kousenband and chicken) and we watched Ready or Not. That was a fun movie. ?
SotD is Man in black by Bvlgari.
Its sunny but quite chilly here at the moment…at night temps even drop to freezing point ?
So maybe IJsheiligen / Ice Saints is not a myth after all ?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Saints
* did NOT have time….
Btw. I forgot to mention:
I gifted myself a small (50 ml) bottle of Bandit for my birthday. ?
I’m glad it was so nice, and that’s a great self-gift!
it’s cold here in the southwest US this morning. 😉
I wore my winter coat today ?
Reminds me to cook some indian food soon. I love roti
Yup Indian food is so good!
In the Netherlands lots of people associate roti with Surinam kitchen.
But it arrived in Surinam when Hindu Indians migrated there. ?
When Dutch people say, ‘we eat roti’, we mean a whole meal (bread including the potatoes, greens and proteins).
A belated but heartfelt Happy Birthday, and many more…..
Thank you!
Sorry I missed your birthday! Glad it was a good one!
Belated Happy Birthday! I also enjoyed Ready or Not. Good fun.
Cold and windy here. I actually got fully dressed with makeup and jewelry to go to Home Depot. LOL. I feel like a real person.
Wearing massive amounts of Hiram Green Slowdive.
You smell great!!!
I have not worn make-up in a really long time. I don’t care how crappy I look on camera ?
I cheer up by dressing up even for mundane errands. I remember growing up we would dress up for plane rides – and even just to pick up ppl from the airport!
Joining you today in makeup and sort of dressing up today. I am in jeans, which is really not my style 😉
Today I’m in make up, earrings, AND a necklace. Avant la guerre, I very very rarely would wear a necklace, but needs must! I have no trips out of the house, or even Zoom calls, scheduled today. So this is truly just for me.
Wearing my newly arrived Amouage Love Mimosa today
New stuff is great – are you like me, where you binge on the new scent until you’re sick of it? 😉
No, I don’t think this ever happened to me 😉
😀
???
Glad you approve
Glad you finally got your birthday bottle ??
Uuuhhh – Love Mimosa is gorgeous. Hope you enjoy it very much ?
Thank you!
Enjoy your belated birthday present! I have yet to sample it but it sure sounds good!
Quickie check-in, in Iris Nazarena today cuz I had a hankering.
You made me think of this
https://youtu.be/-CuqFsxtqxg
I hope you laugh ?
You smell great!
Haha! Thanks ?
I thought of that too!
It’s a catchy song !??
You smell great!
Thanks lucasai!
Nice!
It is nice. I’m rarely in the mood for it, but it hit the spot today.
A hankering is a good enough reason!
You smell lovely today Elisa!
Best perfume family: Hankering for!
FM Une Rose today. Perfect for this in-between weather we’re still having in the northeast.
Wow, you smell good…
Decided that this week would be “JCE and me in a garden” so I started Monday with Jardin sur le Nil, Tuesday was Jardin sur le Toit, and today is Le Jardin de Monsieur Li…..Need a Jardin right about now!
Good category!
That’s a fun scent family!
Love!
?
Feu Secret for me, because I needed to re-locate my inner fire. It’s slow going, but I’ll get there.
That’s the scent for it!
of course you will get there..
Nicest day we have had this week. Yesterday I wore La Chasse de Papillions, and it was lost in the cold. Today, I over compensated with a liberal 5 sprays of Memo Sham’s Oud, which sometimes seems so smoky I am not sure I like it, but today, I am happy in a perfume I continue to be aware of as the day wafts on, and I have all those associations with Oud as being health protective, so I am good. It is warmer today, I mulched some more of my blueberry bushes at noon (only 9 left to go, and the buds are starting to split all pink and pretty, so the bushes I worked on were not hit too hard by the frost last week.) Working from home is great – I can DO something over my lunch hour…
That’s serious lunch hour effort. Kudos
Thanks, it was really hard to come inside and sit back down at the computer…
I’m still doing my series of non-stewed-fruit Serge perfumes, wearing Nuit de Cellophane today. It does have fruit (mandarin orange) but it’s more fresh, not stewed, light not heavy, and no spices (only some almond). I experience the osmanthus the most of all the florals. It’s just another example of the more light and clear kind of category that he can be good at when he tries. I’m also avoiding all the sandalwood ones (I think I have three or four actually of those!–including some very old Mysore Sandalwood).
My adventure for today will be picking up my bag of goodies from the local co-op. It’s mostly vegetables but I also ordered some duck eggs, just for fun!
Enjoy your time picking up your bag of goodies…
You can view it on Instagram!
They look delicious, especially the melon. ?
Douce Amere is a favorite of mine – and no stewed fruit.
That’s one I don’t have.
Haven’t smelled it yet, but I love that name: Nuit de Cellophane. Reason enough to put it on the ‘to sample’ list!
My NSFW (not safe for work) perfume of the day is Dior Oud Ispahan. I finished off the small decant I’ve had for years, yay! I’m not sure if this has been reformulated, but this decant was made back in 2013-2014 from an early batch of bottles. I like it more than I expected to, but I don’t need any more. It’s rose with smoky oud and patchouli, and it’s STRONG.
Been meaning to comment about Zoologist Bat and Sloth that I got samples of and tried the weekend before last. I wasn’t really impressed with either of them, and just sniffing the sample of Sloth made me not want to put it on my skin. Luckily, out didn’t smell the same on skin, but I didn’t really get a clear scent from it. It felt muddled. I also found the dry down of both perfumes to be quite similar (they’re from the same perfumer). They were slightly traditionally masculine fuzzy dry downs and reminded me a bit of Gris Clair. Sadly, neither was remarkable or compelling. Still looking forward to trying Bee soon. Luckyscent was sold out of samples when I orderd a few weeks ago.
Zoologist as a line just doesn’t work for me. I like the brand concept though
That Dior sounds fabulous. Another to add to the sniff list!
I liked the other new one that I didn’t ever expect to, Squid, but no one else does! I thought Sloth was in the green category a bit like Elephant but Elephant is way more juicy and pungent, and I prefer it. Sloth did feel a bit murky.
I mostly liked Squid when I tried it, but it really put my boyfriend off. He doesn’t object to many of my perfumes, so I figured I shouldn’t pursue it any further than a sample. Really too bad especially with the fun blue color of the juice and the squid character on the bottle.
Murky is a good way to describe Sloth.
I agree with your assessment of Sloth. You must have been sampling the new Bat rather than the old Ellen Covey one. I’d like to get the new one to compare, just for S&Gs, but not too motivated… less so with your comparison to Sloth.
I do like the old Bat, which for anyone who missed this news is now available from Olympic Orchids as “Night Flyer”.
Yes, definitely speaking of new Bat! I don’t think anyone could say the original Bat isn’t compelling! It has so much to say and you would never confuse it with a different perfume. My disclaimer is that I worked for Ellen Covey/Olympic Orchids for 3.5 years and got very familiar with that Bat. I may have been predisposed towards the old Bat, and I did enjoy the top notes of the new one. However, the mid-base notes fell flat on me.
What a great olfactory education experience that must have been! Did you work in the perfume industry before/after? How your perfume tastes evolve because of your exposure? Sorry, full of questions, and it does feel like I just gave you a high school essay assignment…
Continuing my cuddly scent week with SL Fourreau Noir. Its still cold and wet, so it fits the weather.
In Carnal Flower from a decant. I have only smelled this on paper before so I have no way of judging the authenticity. If someone has bought from Scent Hog before chime in!!
Scent Hog is a new one for me as well. Funny name. ??
Not my favorite family, but I’ve been wearing soliflores this week. Goutal Jasmine, rose perfume oil straight from Bulgaria, and Hiris – technically not soliflore but the iris by which all others are judged!
Oh, but that’s a great idea!
Still wearing Perfumes I Should Love But Don’t: Today is Guerlain Myrrhe et Delires. It’s better than I remember, but still I am not moved to get any more.
Remember the neighbor I mentioned who mowed the dirt in his front yard and then planted things in a couple thousand little holes? I walked past this weekend to see him sitting on the dirt, holding a cordless drill with a brush attachment. He was brushing the dirt. I am seriously wondering about his mental health. If I see him again I think I’ll ask what he’s doing with his yard.
Land art?
Golly, yes, you must investigate further. We need answers!
Sounds like your neighbor has seriously gone over the edge. Looking forward to the next installment of the saga.
Wearing DoSon today. I bought it for the special bottle. I don’t know what it is about the scent that really cheers me up.
Which bottle, one of the color ones? (I think even the regular bottle is pretty though)
Robin, it’s the beautiful turquoise bottle with the etched painting of VietNam.
Nice, I am jealous!
Continuing with chypre category, yesterday was Milot Crepe de Chine which autocorrect had changed to Milk something or other; today it’s the benchmark fruity chypre vintage (No dreaded cumin) Rochas Femme, I’m getting a lot of stone fruits compote from it.
I had wondered about the milk! Glad you clarified ?
Oh Yes, I’m sorry Lillyjo, I was rushing yesterday, so didn’t correct, Crepe de Chine is a grand old chypre which is a little bit like Fleur de Chine which is a lot like vintage Giorgio Red, I discovered on Fragrantica some time ago and got a bottle and found it was the case.
Giorgio Red! One of my all time favorites.
Sotd is vintage Ma Griffe for my chypre florals week. This is fabulous! Thank you again, Aurora!
It’s a nice sunny day today. I’ve been ignoring responsibility by watching stand up comedy specials.
Which did you watch? Always lookung for stand up recs. I watched the last 3 Marc Maron ones over the weekend (in a row ?).
Mark Nomand ” out to lunch ”
Pretty funny-not politically correct.
Also started Jerry Seinfeld 23 hours to kill, but will have to get back to it.
Marc Maron is funny!
I like Bill Burr too.
Thanks! The JS one is on my list. Will check out the others
Oh you smell divine, so glad you are enjoying it, you are most welcome, it’s that great green gardenia note which is so unique I find and you chose such a good scent category.
Continuing my week of Too Rare Not to Wear, I’m in Le Galion Sortilege, from a really old looking mini. Someone advised me to try minis from eBay when exploring the world of vintage fragrances, and he/she was right!
How do you like Sortiledge? I found an old bottle at an antiques fair but the top notes are off. The scent is beautiful once I get past the top notes. If wishes were fishes, I’d love a perfectly preserved bottle of Arpege. I also love Jolie Madame.
It is very well blended, with ylang at the start. That’s what I can identify at first dabbing. Any aldehydes that existed are gone. I have what I think is an old mini of Arpege, and it has more amber than the Sortilege.
It is very pretty, very rich and lasted six hours on my skin.
I understand how you feel about Arpege. The little bit of the old formulation I have is just so magical!
Oh, and I’ve not tried Jolie Madame. How does it compare to Arpege for you, if you have time?
Totally different. Violets and moss.
In my new Kiehl’s Original Musk today for “somewhere in between genders” scent week.
It’s delicious, as is the smell of Hawaiian butter mochi cakes wafting from my oven. I’m doing those PLUS a coffee cake because tomorrow is my birthday, and I’ve wanted to try both recipes for weeks, so I simply shall.
My poor Mr. Teebear is lamenting his waistline a bit more of late with my cornucopia of carb – but my body runs primarily on carbs, so it can’t stop ? I’ll buy more fruit when I get groceries again and try to place them somewhere more immediately accessible than the baked goodies.
Happy birthday ???????
Wow, lucky you. Carbs are not my friend. My husband, OTOH, can eat a small loaf of bread every day and not gain.
Yeah I never give out dietary advice…
It’s primarily genetic metabolism, plus a significant proportion of non-aerobic to aerobic exercise per week that’s just a normal part of my job.
Watch me have to go 6-8 hours without food and hanger is a real problem tho! The one time I had to overnight fast for medical tests was NOT pretty.
happy birthday eve, Teebear! 😀 mochi is a perfect indulgence, imho.
Happy pre-Birthday!
Unscented, minus the 80 products used to shower and moisturize. ?
Thinking either my sample of POAL, which I hated years ago. Now, I have fallen hard. Or 33 Santal , which I didn’t get the dill note till now. Smell some oud or is it just me?
It is beautiful out today, have a wonderful day!
Was gorgeous here too 🙂
Ran the fields with my dog in Musk Oud that I just found decluttering today. ? Almost brand new. I love it!
for inappropriate/out of sync, I’m wearing OJ Woman. I always think of this a s a winter appropriate scent, and very refined. So today I’m wearing it on a lovely, warm spring day, while also wearing orange eyeshadow and green eyeliner, a homemade Dalek face mask, and a post-punk band t-shirt and jeans (New Model Army if anyone’s wondering). Totally out of sync and I love it!
Love it! And New Model Army! We had tickets to see them quite a number of years ago, but the US denied them a visa ?
Twins! Only on the scent. No makeup and far less interesting attire.
Smelling great today!
Now I’m googling Dalek face masks to see what the creative folk have been up to…
Drained my decant of BK’s Amber Oud. I think that was an extra someone tossed into a swap. I would never think to test a By Killian Oud–but goodness this one is addictive. I have enough ambery scents at the moment, so not in the market. But, if those rich ambery ouds are your thing, it is definitely worth trying.
My NST reading lately has been spotty, so perhaps y’all discussed this already–but my most recent 30% at Twisted Lily email had a note at the bottom that said, “And don’t worry. Come Thursday, we’ll be back better than ever with a new site!” Anyone know what’s up with them? Closing? No closing? Moving exclusively online?
I was checking them out because of the 30% coupon. They were out of what I wanted.
I wonder if he sold it to someone else. It has a new business address (Jersey if IIRC). May have sold the website + any remaining stock he had.
I think that is right, they sold it (reported here a couple weeks ago, IIRC)
The BK Rose Oud is just gorgeous!
Twisted Lily sold the site/name to Eden perfumes, who is relaunching the business.
Guys, Dusita is having a haiku poetry contest.
With the recent NST haiku challenge I’m sure many of you still can think of some more, so go ahead and join 🙂
Who knows, maybe you’ll win.
How funny!
SOTD = Maison Lancôme Haute Parfumarie Paris Iris Dragees
Yes, from the same birthplace as LVEB, only with a more high falutin’ pedigree.

Make sure to read my pet peeve. I did not mention on IG but I’m mentioning here that I had to label the bottle since I have several in the same size and equally illegible text.
In other news, I don’t recall mentioning that this last Sunday, I decided to dip my toe in to using a grocery delivery service. I landed on using Instacart and chose Costco from which to purchase stuff (because they have flour in stock!). Of course I added a few things here and there and before I knew it, BAM, order sent. The estimated delivery was May 10-11 … so imagine my surprise when I got a text saying “Anthony” is now shopping for me and then 15 minutes later, Anthony is in his way to deliver! Wow, talk about underpromise / overdeliver. There was an InstaCart Fee as well as a delivery fee and a tip but when I did the math, it was worth it to not drive there, stand in line to go in and pay and have to drive home. I know it won’t be this perfect every time but I’m glad to have tried it for future reference.
I’ve been so interested in doing that. Out of curiosity, how do they verify your Costco membership etc? I am almost out of flour and want a giant Costco bag haha.
On checkout.there was a prompt box to enter it but I have to say it almost did not even process. Maybe I’ll test it out next time and put in a fake one unless of course the app saved it on first entry.
So you’re saying that Iris Dragees smells like LVEB? Sorry if I misunderstood…
Lancôme by any other name is still Lancôme. Iris Dagrees is from the higher end line of Lancôme but it is not spectacular and should just be branded Lancome, just like LVEB. They don’t smell at all alike, in my opinion.
Lol I have a slight resentment towards Lancome for creating that awful(imo) LVEB.
Holding myself accountable for what I said yesterday and am wearing St. Clair Scents Pandora and Eve – I just now applied one eensy squirt per arm as I recalled that they are quite potent. I searched for the previous four (First Cut, Gardener’s Glove, Frost and Casablanca) to no avail – they’re either nestled somewhere random or I passed them on during one of my massive shareathons.
I hope everyone is having a peaceful day!
Yes, they are very potent! Even on my scent devouring skin! Casablanca cannot be sprayed, has to be swipped. The drydown of Song of Aubrac was a gorgeous unctuous honey. I only need one spray of all her scents.
Will I survive wearing my therapeutic dose?
You may want to explore a new therapeutic modality. I’d like to suggest homeopathy. ?
LOL
I decided I prefer Eve of the two, and ordered the travel-sized bottle. What say you?
Oh, nice! At the moment I prefer Eve, but I gotta say I’ve gone back and forth between the two and choosing one over the other is not easy! They’re both beautiful! What made you decide on Eve?
Pulled out some scents from the cabinet to put on my round mirrored plate atop and boxed up and out others back in the cabinet, as I rearranged, I decided to spray OJ Woman, which I haven’t worn in FOREVER. Not since I oversprayed in a small apartment that one time. Think I’ll wear this more often.
And, I decided a walk was in order. So…I walked down to the Trader Joe’s, which is about 1.25 miles away. Figured if it was easy to go in, I would. Well, it was easy. Walked most of the way home with my two bags and backpack, but a bus came so rode the last 10 blocks (which were uphill). First time on a bus in two months.
I wore Woman yesterday and enjoyed it all day! You smell great!
Mmmm…world cocktail day- I can get behind that one! I think I’ll celebrate with a watermelon margarita when I get home!
I’m in Geisha Noire today. It’s slightly chilly and I just wanted it. It’s kept me warm all day. 🙂
So far my favorite alternative margarita was mango, but nothing beats the original in my book!
Agreed! I make a watermelon one (watermelon juice, lime juice, triple sec, tequila) that is a close second though! Everyone I make it for loves it and something about watermelon is so refreshing to me in summer!
Also, I realize there’s no need to share this, but my 4 year old autistic nephew has had a hard time potty training. Anyway, he’s gone potty without any accidents for over a week now (just #1, still working on #2 lol). In the past couple of days, he’s even gone on his own without being asked!
This is a huge deal for my sister and mom and I just can’t stop smiling haha. Funny how some pottying can make us so happy!
Aww bless – that’s great! Little yasmina is also working on number 2.
Yay for Mom- that’s always a big win!!
This is a huge win for your nephew!??
Gorgeous weather again today! ??? A person (and their cats!) could really get used to this. ? So far, all the packages I was expecting this week have arrived. One more to go, that I know of. There’s always the chance that Mr. Jalapeno has ordered something I don’t know about. ?
SOTD = back in Brit Rhythm for Her. I can see this becoming a spring staple… now I am reminded why I got the bottle!
This is me doing my ‘You Go Girl’ ??.
Sampling the new DSH Giardini Segreti which is in the lush floral family. Or perhaps it should just be in the large family of perfumes that need to live with me
HA, good idea for a family 🙂
I am trying so hard to conjure up the perfect scent for me to choose now for 2 days running… i have to confess that I almost blind bought SMN Peau d’espagne but chickened out.i have burned too often in my BB’s.
So I think iI will reach for Cuir de Lancôme and maybe Cuir Beluga decant to see if that scratches my itch. This is getting realllllly old.
Happy cocktail day.
Maybe a few samples of the SMN scents that you’re curious about would scratch the itch? You can always buy them after sampling and you can enjoy the anticipation.
Thanks Petunia, I did try @ Aedes and they are out of stock! I wonder how much perfume purchasing we are contributing to the consumer spending. Funerie is also quite busy. I hope to try it soon and have others to distract me. In the mean time.
Continuing my Whimsy theme with AA Flora Nymphea. This perfume makes me think of fairies, spring, moss and flowers. It’s a whimsical scent for me. ?♀️?♂️
Just the name is whimsical. It’s a great perfume name.
I saw your earlier post. I’ve been watching old Steve Martin videos on YT. He makes me laugh. I think we all need a good laugh in these times.
Steve Martin and Martin Short are really great together too!
I can always rewatch The Jerk and Three Amigos.
That sounds delightful Petunia.
oh my! you smell pretty! and I know you do because if have a little Flora Nymphea on my arm. I found a decant in my perfume stash and gave it a little test today. I like it so much, can’t believe I forgot about it. 😉
I didn’t have a solid idea for this week, so it took a couple days of Nuit de Tubereuse (my best weirdest tuberose frag), some heavy-duty internet reading about fragrance families) and trying to figure out what family it was in (jury’s still out, best guess, floral oriental?) and decided on just the family “tuberose bombs” this week. I have some samples to use up.
Sun, Mon, Tues – Nuit de Tubereuse, because I wanted to. Tues pm: La Chasse au Papillons from a drench, I mean splash, mini.
Today, Do Son, the last of a sample; pretty but not me (an evil Melon rears its head) then Love Tuberose, the last of that sample, lovely, closer but not me (it’s too pretty)
Unfortunately I am out of Fracas so I can’t blow the doors off Friday, but I’ve got some other heavy-hitters ?
oh, wow! i adaore tuberose in perfume. Tuberose Bombs is a fantastic theme. It’s also my new favorite garage band name, lol. 😀
World Cocktail Day and all the bars are closed lol. A watermelon daiquiri sounds like something I would want to try. Last cocktail I had was for my birthday a while back and it was a Godiva chocolate martini, sooo good.
Sotd, Gucci Memoire..it’s nice when a breeze blows and you say to yourself, “Oh my, what smells so good? Oh, that’s me!” I got a sweet, spicy note that smelled of baked goods..realized it was my fume.
Also got a liter of hand sanitizer lol so I guess I am good. It leaked pretty good on shipment, however.
Perfect weather today, mid80s:).
A couple restaurants near me are doing curbside cocktails with dinner orders…I assume you add your own liquor at home?
I don’t drink enough hard liquor to warrant full bottle purchases in my mind. It just won’t get used up. And my friends at the moment don’t drink much or at all. So, I wouldn’t even really need it for guests. If I get booze for the home, it’s usually a white wine, like a chardonnay. As far as cocktails themselves, I prefer them in a bar or outdoor patio setting:). I like the experience of the bartender shaking it all up and makin it all pretty like:). Cocktails can be pretty pricey though, especially in this town. I do plan on trying the absinthe experience that a local casino has when it reopens. It looks so cool with the sugar cube on fire and everything, plus, I love black licorice so I think I would like it:).
Coty Vanilla Musk. It’s 1995, and I’m young and broke living on South Beach. Skipping down Ocean Drive in cut offs, a baby tee, and bare feet. I sensed someone to my left looking intently at me. It was Gianni Versace leaning on the gate of Casa Casuarina smiling in amusement. I said “Good morning Mr Versace!” And he responded with “Hey! Bon Giorno !”. We waved and I skipped away. I didn’t stop, because it was an unwritten rule on the beach that you didn’t pester Mr Versace, who walked the streets often. After his death, people wondered why he didn’t wall himself up, he would have been safer. Mr Versace was smarter than we are. He knew living a full, free, joyful life was better than a long, fearful one. Something to think about today.
I agree with Versace. I am not afraid.
That’s the way to live. Fear is the mind killer.
Totally different. Violets and moss.
