It's Sibling Day. Our community project for today: wear two fragrances that might be siblings, or wear one and tell us about the other, or wear a fragrance that your sibling wears, or interpret this project in any way you like.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in my old favorite Diorissimo, along with its modern younger sister Hermès Muguet Porcelaine. If I had some DelRae Debut I'd put that on too, as the middle sister.
Reminder: on 4/17, we're doing edition 5 of the Picture Challenge. Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is Three Dancers, Mills College, 1930, by photographer Imogen Cunningham. More reading here, or listen to a brief interview on Cunningham here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Jo Malone Vintage Gardenia
24sprays
?times a thousand is how much I’m cracking up right now over the sprays!
So happy that I could make you laugh ♥️??????
You are a wild woman. 🙂
You know it ???
I can smell the gardenia here in NYC. Thanks!
My pleasure ?????
I think I smell it too … and I’m in Oregon. 😀
Well why not.
Exactly!!!!!!!
24 sprays of jasmine, I could do. 24 gardenia? ? I do appreciate the heavy application, regardless:). BOMBASTIC
I could pretty much do 24 sprays of just about anything because my skin tends to eat perfume. The hubs is beginning allergy season and even with my 24 he has said nothing. Which means it’s not projecting as much as it would on a person with normal skin.
24 sprays!
???????
??
?? ? Yes!!
??
It must be one great smelling house; I’ve used up to 10 or 12 sprays of citrus cologne, never more. You’re an inspiration.
I did three sessions before I left the house. Four sprays behind each ear x 3. I can still smell it but it’s not overbearing. Keep in mind it’s a Jo Malone!
You are the only person I know who refers to perfume spraying as a “session”. Go girl! ??
Hee hee…
LOL! And I second the “Bombastic!” from above. You gave a bunch of us a good laugh. 😀 Thank you!
LOVE it. Take up a little space. Yes!!!
I’m tiny so I usually take up very little space….now I’m making up for it ?
Omg I just loled. Thank you for opening up the SotD thread with this! ?
You’re welcome ?
I’m in Carner Barcelona D600 for which I do not know a sibiling.
Otherwise MDCI Invasion Barbare and Histoires de Parfums 1725 are close relatives.
That is a perfume I completely associate with you! Glad to hear about your mum’s improvement the other day.
Aww, really?
I do as well!
On the one hand, Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme. On the other hand (literally, the backs of my hands), Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin. Fraternal twins, same DNA but you can tell them apart. Both intensely rosy, something I love, but the Atelier is a bit brighter and fresher, while the Lutens really commits to the dark-rose theme.
If I grew a third arm I’d compare them both to Etat Libre d’Orange Eau de Protection. I really have a thing for ink-dark roses.
Eau de Protection is the tough, tattooed sister of the other two.
It really is!
That’s rather interesting, since I don’t get a dark rose from La Fille de Berlin at all. For me, it’s a fully opened rose at high noon on a hot summer day.
WoW cm8! 24 sprays. I would love to social distance right past you and inhale.
I am in Profumum Roma’s Olibanum today. It called to me.
Listed notes:
Orange blossom
Myrrh
Incense
Happy Easter to those who celebrate.
Happy Passover to those who celebrate.
Happy weekends to all.
We are note twins because there’s myrrh in my fragrance too.
I had to go to the drugstore this morning.
Everyone stayed away from me.
I think I smell amazing ???
Ha! I bet your scent was a formidable force field.
It was. But you know, life is too short so from here on in I am spraying lavishly ?
We are Incense twins too!! There’s that AND cardamom in my fragrance. Now I know why I like it so much.
You are hitting a home run here twin. ?
I do love cardamom too.
Love this!
Gives me an idea..24 sprays of Poison should keep ppl at least 6ft away from me:)
Lol. At Least!?
Ahahaha!! Go for it!
It might also want me out of my own skin ?
Genius!
Happy Weekend!
I wore that Tuesday to fortify myself for the trip to Costco. Happy holidays/weekend to you too!
That sounds incredible! To the google…
I totally forgot about Good Friday and Easter and Jesus is the God of my choice..maybe He will understand? Lol. It just doesn’t feel Easter..I kinda forgot what days are in general. Like, I heard that Cure song, Friday I’m In Love..and I was like, “I remember Fridays..and being in love” LOL.
That was really funny.
Those notes sound great, i need to check this one out!
I have Shalimar EdC (an older bottle thank you goddessrena) comparing it to a sister Shalimar Ode Vanille Madagascar.
I find the Madagascar to be very smokey, and I thought it would give the EdC a run for its money, alas, the EdC is smokey and so lovely and the OdV flanker is more settled but still sexy.
Late evening finally
comes: I unlatch the door
and quietly
await the one
who greets me in my dreams.
~~Otomo no Yakamochi
Some good news, some of you know I have been studying Italian. Now that the kids are home during the day its been impossible to continue my online lessons with my teacher. (I use the Italki platform no affiliation) Yesterday I got an email from a cultural center here in NYC and they moved their classes online (group) and they are doing their classes in the evening. So MrL agreed to hold down the fort with the little ones 1 night a week so I can continue. It will be different since I am use to one on one, but its something to look forward to in the next few weeks.
That’s great about your Italian classes! Brava!
with everything going on you would think this would be the least, but I need something to keep my mind occupied other than reading a book and taking care of the kids all day…
That’s great news. I’m glad you can continue your studies.
I am learning so much about Shalimar & her sisters & flankers from you.!
(Sono molto contenta per te.
Questo modo sarebbe meglio perché sembra come conversazione nella vita normale.
Ed aiutarti di più imparare velocemente .)
Davvero!
Prego!
Adoro Shalimar
Happy for you that you can have that online class, a nice break from the routine of home.
Those are my 2 favorite Shalimars (though I have the Mexique) plus Eau de Shalimar (which is a twin sister to the Legere.)
I have never smelled Legere or Eau de Shalimar!
What am I missing out on?
If I were participating I would be in St Clair Scents Pandora and Eve. They are almost identical but Pandora has a deeper base due to a few more notes.
Oh, great idea! I have samples but WHERE?
Brilliant suggestion! I might do that today.
Les Liquides Imaginaires Dom Rosa and Parfums de Rosine Un Zeste de Rose. Although, despite both being citrus rose fragrances, they are more like cousins.
I just got a bottle of Dom Rosa in a swap, looking forward to wearing it this summer.
Micallef Gaiac. It’s twin is Dame Perfumery’s Dark Horse. Gaiac is a comfort scent for me.
Swamped with work today so I need to get going and plow through.
Happy weekend and happy Easter for those who celebrate.
Happy weekend to you, you smell great!
I remember that you are also a fan. High five!
Love Dark Horse! Gaiac is a great smell 🙂
Enjoy your weekend!
Happy weekend – you also smell wonderful! I can see Baghari and No. 5 as sisters. I think Baghari is the older sis.
Its not “It’s”. Argh.
Happy weekend and Happy Easter to you, too. Dark Horse is a favorite of mine, I love its woods and spice in the fall.
This is so good to know! I’ve had Gaiac on my list to try, but I have a bottle of Dark Horse already, so no need to sample. Thanks springpansy!
Woke up in LADDM and post shower I am wearing Au Couer du Desert. It looks more and more like URV has been discontinued but I am happy I got a backup bottle.
What’s URV?
Une Rose Vermielle
That’s a pity about Une Rose Vermielle. But I do have a Tauer sample of it, so I am set for quite a while. A little goes a long way for me with that one.
It has the lasting power of nuclear waste, even with my dry skin!
Thank you so much for all the birthday greetings yesterday, I was overwhelmed! It was a happy quiet day at home. The most precious part was having my parents call me to sing happy birthday. I feel so lucky to still have them both.
Rose Omeyyad was so good yesterday I decided to continue with the house in Cuir Sacré. It reminds me a bit of Indult Rêve en Cuir.
Happy belated birthday!
Happy belated birthday ????
That phone call was extra special ♥️
Happy belated birthday!! The celebration continues!
Happy belated birthday!?
Belated birthday wishes!
I missed it – happy belated birthday and may you celebrate many more!
Happy belated and I am glad you had a pleasant day!
Happy belated birthday wishes to you for a wonderful year ahead! I’m sure your parents were thrilled to be able to sing ? to you on your special day!
HBB since I missed it yesterday ?
Happy Birthday Cazaubon!
Happy Birthday!
Wearing a small spray of Mohur extrait (the diva) on one arm and one of Rose de Petra ( its shy but oh, so pretty cousin) on the other.
Wishing you all a Happy Easter, Happy Passover and good health!
I’ve never tried Rose de Petra, but if it bears any similarities to Mohur it seems like I have to.
Hope you are well!
I am well, thank you. I have today off as well (always a plus in my book).
I feel there are some similarities there besides the fact that both have rose (plus some spices) as the main player. I‘m afraid I am not good at describing nuances but I strongly recommend that you try Rose de Petra if you have a chance. It’s quite beautiful.
Is the extrait in the purple bottle? I wasn’t sure if that was a spray or a dabber – I would think I would want to dab extrait, unless I sprayed it on my neck and maybe dabbed my wrists to my neck…Thinking out loud here!
Yes, it’s the purple bottle and it has a spray mechanism. It works great as you can spray a little or a lot depending on preference.
Ah, That is a great feature!
My theme is vanilla, so I’m wearing:
L’Artisan Parfumeur:
Havana Vanille (2 sprays)
Vanilla (2 sprays)
Pont des Arts;
À ce soir (3 sprays)
Maître Parfumeur et Gantier:
Fleur des Comores (2 sprays)
Parfums de Nicolaï:
Vanille Intense (2 sprays)
Vanille Tonka (2 sprays)
Annick Goutal:
Vanille Exquise (3 sprays)
I considered adding Songes, Shalimar, Fils de Dieu and Jicky to that list, but I think my vanilla theme is duly served already.
The weather is still gorgeous here and I’m I didn’t have to work today.
Now THAT is serious CP participation! Well done.
The idea grew on me because of comparing HV and AcS yesterday. It’s actually really nice to have all these different interpretations of the same note floating around me.
Wow. Please waft in my direction!
I’ll do my humble best!
Wow!!! ?
I can smell you here ?
As you should, and you don’t even really like vanilla.
Wow!!
?
Vanilla bomb! ?
Very much so!
I am impressed by your dedication to the CP ? Have a good weekend and enjoy the nice weather!
Thank you, it was fun to do this week.
Oh, lovely!
I can only recommend it, it is really, really nice to be surrounded by this much vanilla.
Can I ask about your method? Where you sprayed and if they’re all just layered, or if they’re side-by-side, or otherwise?
Of course you can:
I sprayed À ce soir in my cleavage (where I mostly spray perfume), Havana Vanille either side of my neck, the Nicolaïs on my left arm (wrist and higher up), Fleur des Comores and Vanille Exquise on my right arm and wrist and some additional VE on the back of my neck.
I distinctly remember spraying on Vanilia but I can’t remember where, probably left arm somewhere.
I should really design a body diagram with spray locations so anyone can repeat this feat ?
Hee hee! That sounds absolutely amazing? I’m going to give it a whirl!
Wow I just want to come over and walk around behind you in your house and sniff.
You would be most welcome and you could probably smell me while respecting the required distance ?
So THAT’S what I was smelling earlier today, ;0
It must have been!
Omg! You are a whole vanilla dynasty, sisters step to the side!!! You smell heavenly ?
I like to think I do ?
Wow, that’s lots of vanilla. I think fils de Dieu is Shalimars shy oriental cousin
It is definitely related to the grand old dame of Vanilla. Oriental Express (Mugler) is another excellent relative.
I am thinkin Coco and Chinatown for clovey bliss.
I was watching a interview with Carlos Huber from Arquiste..man that guy handsome. Lol. Is he single? I have to be socially distant at the moment but..afterwards? LOL
(I am thinkin I need a nap lol) probably will fiinsh my egg roll and watch yet another movie. That Van Gogh movie looks good, I am a fan of Vinnie..however, I just watched Spiderman last night and Defoe was the Green Goblin. The transition to Vincent may be a little soon for me lol. He always plays wonderful villains.
Carlos Huber is handsome indeed! He looks good with very short hair/almost bold as well. Not every man can pull off that look.
He gets a mention in this list, of course I am totally sharing this because of all the useful business info you can read here ?
https://www.wmagazine.com/gallery/12-hunks-of-the-beauty-world-on-what-makes-them-so-cute/
That you for that business info, LOL. I had no idea about all the cuties in perfume. And I forgot about Edward Bess..he’s almost too pretty. Like Interview with a Vampire pretty.
PS after review, Benoit is my choice haha.
I was following avidly along and was stopped in my tracks when they put a huge ad on the screen, “Six Steps to a Healthy Prostate,” with giant pictures!
Oh no ? so sorry ?
I dont get any ads. Maybe because I use another browser….
I kept getting David’s Tea ads.
Have to wonder what you’ve been shopping for… *raises eyebrow* 😉
SotD is Jardin Blanc (MPG) from a decant.
This is so pretty! White flowers and something resinous. Yes its sweet but not cloying.
Wow, its quite sunny and warm, again. So i am saying yes to a midi summer dress (well, midi is almost maxi length for me ?).
Yup it definitely feels more like May than early April and it sure helps lifting my mood.
Oh and not reading every newsflash about the pandemic also helps.
It’s one of those scents that no one ever mentions but that are so worth wearing. You smell wonderful and you are wise about avoiding the news.
Hope your tooth is better.
I’m accidentally participating in today’s cp! I started with Musc Nomade and then decided I needed something with a little more heft so went over it with SJP Lovely. I suppose among musks they aren’t that closely related, but certainly two wearable pretty musks.
We are musk twins! I haven’t smelled Musc Nomade, but I’ve been enjoying Lovely quite a bit lately.
You smell great! They’re really mostly different – MN is more fluffy, almost powdery, and wears very subtly.
I love my Lovely. I know CVS/Walgreens/Rite-Aid still sells it in their cosmetics section, so I don’t think I have to worry about running out of my FB.
It’s such a reliable one to have on hand!
My original intent was to wear something obtained from my other sister, Lavandes Trianon by Lancôme. But then I was thinking of combining my almond scents again…Kiss Me Intense and L’Eau Couture…because I enjoyed that combo.
But…I decided to be reminded of my actual sibling…so the the lavender it is. It’s not really my bag, because of the vanilla (I like straight up, almost minty lavender) but it does have a lavender-sugar-on-top-a-donut thing going on that is quite pleasant. (For those of you familiar, I’m thinking Donuttery’s Paris Time sugar topping….and now I have a craving. Dang it!)
Me too, about the lavender. minty or camphor lavender is great, but lavender mixed with vanilla (which is such a common combo in perfume) grates me.
I tried two perfumes with lavender and vanilla this week (Mon Guerlain and Bond No 9 New Haarlem) and had the same reaction to the combination of notes – both of which I love individually!
I am calling it a “banshee effect” because they seem to project VERY loudly and in unison on my skin, it’s just a bit much for me even if I like it on others!
At least there’s always lavender ice cream!
I love the Three Dancers photo!
I am in Solstice Scents Lavender Vanilla today.
Have several meetings today which I am not looking forward to 🙁 and my 1st grader has two Zoom meetings I have to make sure she dials into too. 😉
You smell great! Your first grader isn’t on spring break? That’s a bummer.
Many school districts are cancelling spring break this year.
?♀️
We always have a super lame “mini break” just good Friday and Easter Monday off, so it stayed the same
My son goes to an extremely competitive engineering school. They had neither Good Friday or Easter Monday off so he wasn’t even coming home for Easter Sunday originally. Now, however, he’s home as his classes switched to online a month ago ?
Huh. I had no idea any schools in the US had Good Friday or “Easter Monday” off. I’d never heard of such a thing until I realized it’s standard in Canada, and figured it was a thing there due to less of a separation of church & state.
(Easter Monday is not an actual holiday, right? Just means “the Monday after Easter”?)
I love that photo too! It was an accidental choice made while browsing for more information about my first choice, and will make for a much better project 🙂
Let me also register my enthusiasm! Great photo.
Good.
I fixated on the idea of my sibling and what he would wear. He used to wear absolutely nuclear amounts of Drakkar Noir when he was a teenager, and of course would spray it just before getting in the car with the rest of us. I didn’t want to replicate that for obvious reasons. I don’t know if he even wears scent now – I never notice it on him when I (too rarely) see him.
But we both have striking blue eyes (thanks mom and dad!) so I chose You or Someone Like You because of the blue eyeball on the label.
Very nice interpretation of the theme!
wow!
My father had striking blue eyes, and by chubby buddha has them even though mr L and I do not. Recessive gene…
For the CP I’m in Bal d’afrique and Vetiver Tonka. VT is the cold weather sibling of BdA.
Interesting! I probably need to smell BdA again.
Ooooooh, I know what BdA smells like, but have never tried Vetiver Tonka. It sounds like that one will go onto my “sample” list.
I’ll be working out in the hills today, so I’m wearing Demeter Wet Garden so as to not clash with the landscape. So, maybe my perfume is the landscape’s sibling? 🙂
Sounds good to me
Works for me! I like Wet Garden, just wish it lasted longer.
Not participating in the cp, but smelling great in another favorite incense scent: April Aromatics Calling all Angels.
That perfume name always reminds me of the Train song, which, along with Drops of Jupiter, is one of my favorites from the band.
And we are note twins as there’s incense in my fragrance as well.
Hello incense twin! ?
I love Calling All Angels! We’re incense siblings (I’m in SSS Incense Pure).
Hello incense twin! You smell wonderful in Incense Pure, which I also love!
I love my brother a lot but he wears OJ Man and that was not in the cards today. I’m wearing Charenton Macerations Asphalt Rainbow, from a sample, and really liking it! It’s like rose and honey-lemon tea broken up by some modern aromachemicals, I wanna say Iso E and calone but also I know nothing.
Oh that wouldve been a fun take on the theme: to pair with your sibling. I suspect my brother only wears deodorant and maybe some Nivea after shave ?.
Lol. Nivea does make a perfume, I’ve never smelled it though.
Rainbow twins with you!
Hurrah, I have a sibling after all!
Ooh, I was so there with Asphalt Rainbow until I read Iso e super. Thank you! Lemming squashed 😉
I’m totally guessing but use it if it works for you! ?
Yup will do ?
Well, I’m definitely wearing siblings – so much so that this almost feels like a cop-out, but what better CP is there for layering Eau des Merveilles and Eau Claire des Merveilles? Happy spring holidays to all who are celebrating near now. And happy Friday!
Happy Friday! I bet you smell great!
Managed to mooch a sample of Muguet Porcelaine from an Hermes concession either in Dublin or Glasgow last year, Robin, & loved it, so I’m with you on it, & of course you know my history with Diorissimo & how I feel about it! May yet spring for a bottle of Muguet Porcelaine as & when things return to a semblance of normality & travel is again possible.
Totally off topic, but I’m wishing Charlie Hunnam a happy 40th birthday & hoping against hope Channel 4 (here in the UK) offers repeats of Queer As Folk during the lockdown (she says selfishly!)!
Carolyn and now if only the heavens would rain down bottles of Debut for both of us, it would be perfect 🙂
Ooh, me too, I want to have Debut rain down on me! I adore muguet in fragrances but never got to try that one. Carolyn, I too love Muguet Porcelaine and was able to get an authentic full bottle (tester) on evilBay in the last year or so. I was able to confirm it upon receipt because I had an official Hermes sample.
Debut for everyone ??
I’m wearing Lush Kerbside Violet with L’Artisan Violaceum. I especially love the Violaceum- used up almost half the bottle last spring and may finish it this year. Wish it was still available at the discount sites (my current bottle came from FragranceNet).
i have been kinda craving violet lately and I haven’t been a violet person. I think violet goes well while in social distancing mode, something wispy like violet just sounds darn good and comforting atm
I love violets and always crave them at this time of year. I have a bottle of Penhaligon’s Violetta (a soliflore) that I’ve come to realize I love to smell, but not as a perfume. I’ve added it to some shea oil and a neutral moisturizer that I layer on my hands just after washing them, and it’s been the perfect dose of straight-up violets throughout the day. I’m also using the bottle as a room spray.
I enjoyed my SSS Voile de Violette yesterday.
I completely forgot about Violaceum! I had a decant of that a while back, from someone on NST, and really like it. Hmmmmm…
We Californians think of Cunningham as one our state treasures. The light in the photos she took on the campus of Mills look so totally Oakland to me.
My perfumes today are on theme for next week’s challenge as well as this week’s. Sisters with the same mother (19-69), I am wearing Rainbow Bar on my left arm and Chronic on my right–both California dreamin’ kind of scents.
Thanks for the ear worm.??
Haha! Now it is for me too.
All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
I’ve been for a walk
On a winter’s day
If I didn’t tell her
I could leave today
California dreamin’
On such a winter’s daaaaaaay
An ear worm I never mind having.
This. Mama Cass – what a voice.
I started by wearing Reglisse Noire and Theorema, then realized that I made a mistake yesterday by thinking they were siblings. Pre-coffee this morning, I went with the plan I formulated yesterday. Once spritzed, however, I realized that what I was actually remembering was the similarity between Reglisse Noire and Douce Amere. So, I am now wearing triplets.
Aha, good, because I would not have thought they were siblings either! Hope the 3 are playing nicely together.
Actually participating in the CP today! On my left hand we have SL Feminite du Bois. On the right hand we have Shiseido Feminite du Bois. They’re clearly similar but also clearly not the same. To be honest (perfumista heresy!) I prefer the SL. It’s softer and woodier. The Shiseido has a bit more funk and attitude. It’s clearly the older sister, dressed up for a classy night out on the town, while the younger sister is looking forward to a relaxing evening at home. Since there’s no going out on the town these days, I’m good with hanging out with the younger sister.
TGIF, y’all!
Great description, tgif to you too 🙂
Have a great Friday night Pixel!
Chanced upon my sibling scents by serendipity. I went to spray a BWF and saw the little mini of Queen Latifah Queen of Hearts (that I bought VERY early on after starting to read perfume blogs) and couldn’t remember what it smelled like. Sprayed and looked it up on Basenotes and, honestly, I couldn’t have said it better than Wild Gardener: Smells like budget Jeux de Peau with more red berries and razzmatazz. I’ve never been tempted to buy that SL, but this REALLY is an excellent dupe.
Love that word, razzmatazz.
Oh interesting!
After last weekend’s skin scent poll, I ordered a few small decants from TPC. They were waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday, on one arm and hand is Aedes Musc, Atelier Musc and NR Pure Musc. On the other is Kiehl’s, Le Labo Musc 25 and NR Poudree. So, sextuplets?
The sun is out today and I’m determined to stay positive. For me that means staying away from the news and focusing on the fact that everyone in my family is healthy and safe. I talked to my son on the actual phone this week and that did help to alleviate some of the anxiety/sadness I feel over the fact that we all won’t be together this weekend as planned. He won’t FaceTime with me, lol, but I can still get a “I love you too mom” out of him before we hang up.☺️
I know that same feeling. I saved one of my son’s voice mail messages just so I can hear his voice whenever I need to. Sending you a hug, we’ll all be together again one day.
I would suggest limiting the news for sure!
I have had to alter my in take. In the morning I only do things that bring me joy..
How do you feel about the NR Poudree?
I’m only wearing one at the moment: Olivine Amongst the Waves.
Honestly, if I had a good lime/coconut combo, I would be all over it, but I that concept remains on my…well, not my shopping list, because I haven’t identified the particular product, so I guess it’s just my Pre-shopping Concept List. I have Fils de Dieu, but that has loads of vanilla, so it’s not quite the thing.
Reading: Wodehouse Joy In the Morning. Laugh-out-loud in bed funny!
Productive Activities: I made masks this week, but am taking today off. Got some into the mail last night to my daughter in upstate New York, so that’s a relief. Bunged up my foot earlier in the week, which I’m generally ignoring this by easing it into a sneaker in the morning and not looking at it. I probably milked as much cooperation out of that scenario as I can for now (my sewing setup requires that I be on my feet), so I’ll get back to it soonish.
Have a good weekend
Ooh, might not have read this one! Putting it on the reading list.
In food, lime and coconut are fantastic together. I remember ages and ages ago, I use to have dinner at this restaurant called Celestin’s and they served a fantastic coconut tart topped with tiny shavings of lime peel. To die.
Oh, man…I’m going to NOT go looking for a recipe for this, but I am sorely tempted. We’re empty nesters, and it’s dangerous to have dessert on-hand when the husband won’t eat it (he dislikes coconut).
P.G. Wodehouse is always my go to when I need cheering up or just relaxing. I just finished rereading Right Ho, Jeeves.
Hope your foot feels better!
Oh I love coconut + lime. Olfactive Studio Still Life In Rio is my fave. That’s supposedly yuzu not lime, but it smells like lime to me. I also like Le Cercle des Parfumeurs / Fragrance Republic Lime Absolue. That’s a lime + fig scent where the fig has that coconutty slant.
Love Wodehouse too 🙂
I will check into these; thanks!
LL Elle L’Aime might be one to add to your not-a-shopping-list.
I have this one, thanks for the reminder. I’m not crazy about it (don’t know why), so maybe I should play around the application methods.
If you like coconut and lime, there’s a great Epsom salt product made by Tree Hut that combines those with Shea butter, to make moisturizing bath salt. It really smells great! I’m a Wodehouse fan too; I used to read his stories out loud to my late mother when I would visit during her final years. She had had a stroke and couldn’t read any more. We would both laugh and laugh! It’s a happy memory. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the recommendation; I just ordered the Tree Hut salts!
Wodehouse’s work is just fantastic, isn’t it?
My siblings are Robert Piguet Baghari and Chanel No 5. Definitely sisters. No 5 has a deeper side with more rose while Baghari has more soapy sparkly orange blossom; I love them both and they’re different enough to satisfy different perfume cravings. Nice CP!
Been meaning to try Baghari for ages. Do you find it tenacious?
Am about to compare my ebay-purchased vintage no 5 EDC (which wears like iron) to Eau Premiere.
I out Baghari on in the morning and it lasts 6-8 hours. It’s outlasted No 5 today.
Yours sounds like a fun comparison, Eau Premiere is so good.
Vintage No 5 EdC is one of my absolute favorite things ever. Unfortunately a few years ago strange things started happening with my olfaction and almost all of my vintage perfumes smell purely of wild animal and nothing else (in a most unpleasant way.)
I have smelled new versions of the EdT, EdP, have bottles of the lotion, oil, elixir, extrait, and both flankers but none of them get even close to the sheer ecstasy of the vintage EdC.
Wearing Bulgari’s blue tea and SL Bas de Soie, and why no, they’re not siblings after all. Both are pretty and spring-like, though, and behaving well.
Well, you learned something anyway!
Participating in Mary Greenwell Plum on one side and Guy Laroche Clandestine on the other. They share their dominant notes, plum and tuberose but Plum is much lighter, not light exactly but Clandestine is one potent scent, even though I dab it from my bottle. I like Plum for everyday and Clandestine for evenings, it’s the honey in Clandestine that makes it sultry.
Good Friday already, Easter is quite early this year, hope everyone celebrating will have a wonderful Easter. Here, it’s a beautiful spring day and almost every tree in flower.
It does not seem like Easter! I hope everyone with kids managed to corner the appropriate basket items.
So do I Robin. Easter is not real without some good chocolate bunnies and eggs 🙂
No fragrance today, as usual, but I will be slathering on my St. Ives lotion, which smells nice in its own right, for my walk later on. I have a bit of a spring (pun intended) in my step today because I have decided that I will be venturing out this Sunday for my semi-weekly shopping trip. My reasoning is that, hopefully, the stores will not be so terribly crowded on Easter, everyone having theoretically done their Easter dinner shopping 2 or 3 days prior. Of course, this plan could totally backfire on me, there won’t be anything left, tons of last minute shoppers, etc. etc. But, Sunday is also my birthday, so getting out of the house w/gloves and mask will be a nice birthday present. Sigh, shopping trips=birthday presents, such crazy times we live in!
Many happy returns for Sunday, hope it won’t be too crowded for shopping Saturday, I went today and it turned out alright but of course we’re probably in different countries.
Check to make sure the store you’re planning to shop at is open. A lot of grocery and other essential retailers that don’t normally close for Easter are doing so this year so their overworked employees can have a day off.
Have a wonderful birthday, regardless of how it’s spent!
Gategirl, wishing you the happiest and most successful of birthday grocery shopping!
Happy Birthday in advance!
Good luck with your grocery getting! I’m going to second kapint’s suggestion of checking to see if your store of choice is open on Easter Sunday or not.
Perhaps I’ll wear Profumum Roma Olibanum later.
I sprayed some of the Olibanum on in the afternoon. I like it in general, but it feels to me like it has a darker “mood” than I was looking for today. (If that made sense!) It seems appropriate for Good Friday, though. I’ve had a quiet day. It’s really not nice outside today, and I haven’t been feeling ambitious. I’ll go get takeout from a local Italian restaurant soon.
It belatedly occurred to me that I could have had my brother wear the Old Spice aftershave I got and passed along to him, while I put on a bit of Old Spice cologne, which I think is a little bit different from the aftershave, but still much the same idea. J. said the aftershave also gave him memories of one of our grandfathers, so both of us can appreciate the way that Old Spice evokes that sense-memory.
That’s a good interpretation of the CP!
I’ll have to e-mail or call J. and tell him about this week’s project sometime. 🙂
Today’s weather was a marginal improvement over yesterday’s to me. Still not a fan of it, though.
My little Corolla was trying to blow around in the wind when I was driving to and from the restaurant. I had to keep my hands firmly on the steering wheel so the car didn’t go the way the wind was pushing it. I guess it was a little nicer and/or felt a little warmer than yesterday. I’d like warmer weather again, though, with sun.
Woke up craving Bruno Fazzolari Corpse Reviver as the weather is still miserable in my area, but I thunked my sample ages ago – so went with Lubin Korrigan from a decant instead for the boozy notes!
So on CPish, although Korrigan is more herbal/leather while Corpse Reviver is dried fruit and chocolatey civet. I like them both immensely.
And for anyone who read yesterday’s story: Mr. Teebear did *indeed* fully forgive me for using the mixer yesterday before 8am the instant he tasted the waffles I had made (I froze the extras, so he had some this morning). Waffles always win!
No one should be cranky when waffles are involved!
You’re making me want to buy a waffle maker. In the meantime, I have an unopened box of Nespresso and one of Soda Stream …
So we were gifted a Griddler (TM copyright whatever) in about 2009, which at the time was an electrical appliance that came with griddle and panini press/grill plates. Only. Those were the sole options.
I HATED the Griddler with a passion because we were living in a very small apartment and the Griddler, in its box, had to live underneath my desk space and saw such infrequent use because who really NEEDS panini. I wanted to get rid of it but Mr. Teebear felt that was unconscionable as it had been a gift from a good college buddy.
Fast forward about 2-3 years later when we’re walking through Canadian Tire (imagine a slightly more genteel Walmart) looking for patio furniture, and I stopped dead in the middle of the store to eat my words. Out of seemingly nowhere I admitted Mr. Teebear that I was utterly wrong to dislike the Griddler, he was right, and that I fully apologized for my rashness and prejudice.
He was very confused until I said “we need to back up to Aisle 19 where I just saw that they now have waffle plates for the Griddler.”
Those are the only plates the Griddler has been graced with for at least 5 years.
Get a waffle maker. They are God’s gift to breakfast ? I ate serious crow the day I saw those plates, and I have never once regretted it!
Don’t do it. Krusteaz frozen waffles are easier and usually better.
Nice to hear that a) you were forgiven for the early morning noise yesterday, and b) you saved some waffles for a cranky Mr. Teebear. ??
I’m wearing a combination of Vanilla Vibes and Orange Sanguine. They are nothing alike, but like my sister and I, they get along really well. ?
Sounds like a perfect pairing ?
I think you created your own orange creamsicle – well done!
I will take that mixture in a smoothie with some rum.
Awwwww, I like your take on this week’s CP.
For today’s siblings cp, I’m inspired by – and dedicate this to – my beloved grandtwins. Though they are on the cusp of teenagehood, I still often think of them by the nicknames I gave them when they were little and their personalities were emerging: Giggly Girl and Bashful Boy. Like many families now, this is the first time in their lifetime Grandma won’t be hosting Easter dinner and our beloved traditions have all been set aside due to social distancing. Hopefully, in my mind, just ‘postponed’ . . . who says we can’t have a Fourth of July egg hunt?
For GG, I’ve chosen Anthusa Fig & Vetiver, its sweet fig, bright citrus and other fruity notes for her sweet, warm, very caring nature, its woody vetiver base for her underlying core of strength. A budding feminist, after she read Michele Obama’s ‘Becoming ‘ she announced to me, in no uncertain terms, ‘I don’t know how I ever liked the Disney princesses, they can’t even take care of themselves!’
For BB, I’ve chosen Guerlain Vetiver, fresh but with a bit of a dark side, more complex than it first appears. Its earthy/woody/bit of spicy nature is perfect for his true self. Seemingly shy and much quieter than his older-by-just-a-few-minutes sister, he reveals his bolder nature and imagination in his carefully detailed and creative drawings. He’s always at work on a masterpiece!
Nature blessed us this week with two beautiful, warm, sunny days, so I was able to keep at least one of my favorite Easter traditions: thanks to curbside delivery and online ordering from my local nursery, my flower boxes now smile at me with newly-planted pansies and violas. Our forsythias and daffodils are in full bloom and the magnolias are just beginning to open, once again giving me hope. May there also be beauty and hope to celebrate in your world this weekend. Stay safe. Stay well.
What a lovely interpretation of this week’s CP! Sending wishes of health and hope to you as well.
your flowers sound beautiful. 😉
This morning google photos reminded me that 7 years ago I was on spring break with my extended family, we were at a golf resort and had Easter dinner together. This year will surely be different for families, new traditions and memories can be good too.
Love this! And I’m so happy you are supporting your local nursery, I’m doing that too and have started a “virus victory vegetable garden.” The nursery has gotten so creative with online ordering and curbside pickup. They have a Facebook page too where they post timely gardening suggestions. I hope they can survive this downturn.
Late to the party, but smelling great in PG Indochine.
I’m watching the Federal Government Freak Show on CNN and will not comment because of community guidelines…
?
I’m sure Indochine will help to restore equanimity. I’m spritzing some on my other wrist as a wood-spicy counterpart to Yin & Ylang.
Turn it off and read some poetry 😉
Yes. I’ve had my ears (if not my head) in the sand for weeks. I feel bad about that, but maintaining sanity is important.
I’m wearing two jasmine bombshell sisters, Lush Lust and Montale Jasmine Full. Both indolic, with huge silage even with minimal application. The Lush is a little bit more complex.
I’ve been called for jury duty next month. I already postponed it from December. They will let me postpone again because I am in a “high risk group” meaning older than 65, but I am tempted to go because Oregon is managing the virus well and the court has postponed almost all in-person trials. I have travel planned for later in the year, so this is really a good time to serve.
One assumes that if anyplace ought to be able to have well-controlled physical distancing it would be a courthouse. Or at least one hopes. But don’t put yourself under undue risk because you feel you ought to perform your civic duty. (I’d want a very detailed explanation of their sanitation and safety plan before agreeing to anything, myself. And to take a look at the jail scenario in the jurisdiction where you’d be serving. Unless they’re taking a very relaxed approach to bail – and some places are – whomever is going to be on trial is sitting in jail right now.)
Will you be allowed to wear a mask?
Really!
well go only if you feel safe
I wore Untitled L’Eau plus it’s more floral sibling ACJasmin Angélique today, Untitled has a green minty note, the other has Jasmin, but both smell of a bit smokey incense.
I finally managed to sew a new summer dress, and am very pleased with the results. We also took a walk and are now sitting on the balcony after a nice dinner of chicken paprikash with rice and a good French wine.
I’m wearing SSS Yin & Ylang because I love it. Also because the first time I wore it, I thought it might be a more natural sister to Givenchy Amarige or Organza.
When I got those out today, however, they didn’t seem to have as much ylang ylang as I remembered. They are gigantic florals, so in that sense, Yin & Ylang is their more natural relation.
There is a harvest Ylang Ylang version of one of those, but I don’t have it.
i adore ylang ylang. You must smell lovely today. 😀
If I were forced to choose a desert island essence, it might be ylang ylang. ?
House twins again!
SSotD = Roger & Gallet Lavande Royale + Hermes Brin de Reglisse + Caron Pour un Homme
I smell like a lavender field ate too many vanilla cookies then thought, “eh, well, I’ve blown my diet for today so I’ll just have some licorice allsorts to keep things interesting.”
I adore lavender but this is a little much even for me. I think Pour un Homme was a step to far, but it was fun trying.
I’m definitely feeling the aromatherapy benefit – now I want a lavender scented nap – preferably in that field of muscari.
Beautiful photos up top this week!
I’m sure you smell absolutely wonderful, I might do a lavender day tomorrow!
oh, please do! I adore lavender so much I might do it again tomorrow.
Haha on the lavender-scented nap. I started using Mrs. Meyers Lavender dish soap last night. This morning, I woke up on the recliner in front of the TV ?
fantastic! a good recliner “nap” is always nice. I ove Mrs. Meyers Lavender, two thumbs up!
LOVE your perfume analogy!
🙂
Seeking soothing & comfort today in Kerosene’s Unknown Pleasures with a nice cup of Earl Grey tea. Sibling perfume could be Lira by Xerjoff but I’m feeling too lazy/ hounded by the black dog, to actually get up and find my bottle. Pleasant weekend y’all.
Okay, so I’m imagining siblings that have been separated a great distance through immigration, specifically the large number of German immigrants who travelled to South Australia ( Adelaide area, Kangaroo Island) from the late 1830s (Germans were the third most numerous immigrants after English and Irish ). The person left in Europe is Immortal Beloved: plum, rum…a boozy , deep scent that makes me think of dark wood and velvet interiors. The Australian sibling is in Grandiflora Boronia, a lighter, dustier, dry version with boronia rather than plum, but still jammy. Tomorrow I will think of something for my mother and her sisters…all left Manchester to go to NY, Vancouver and NZ.
Starting back on Mirror and the Light!
Germans were also the largest group ( non British ) to settle in NZ in the nineteenth century…but we don’t have boronia so I couldn’t think of a match!
I read an article about your prime minister through a link in The Guardian. It seems she is handling this situation really well.
And I love Grandiflora Boronia.
I’d been wondering about Grandiflora Boronia. It sounds like I need to add it to my sample list.
That whole line is worth exploring. I think the magnolias are not the most interesting part of the collection, although I still found them quite enjoyable. And I just love the other 3. I think Angela did a review of Queen of the Night.
Thanks, austenfan! I like the Sandrine Grandiflora very much, because it smells so much like the surprising scent of the huge flowers. Now I really must try these others.
I’m wearing Mitsouko for a beautifully perfumed start to Saturday morning. I’ll catch up on the comments later as a reward to myself for cleaning the kitchen.
There is nothing that says autumn like Mitsouko, my kitchen is in need of some cleaning as well.
My door handles on the other hand are spotless ?
Mitsuoko – a beautiful start to any day.
Not only am I participating, but I’ve pulled a double.
This morning in the wee hours I actually remembered the CP and sprayed Gucci Bloom and Carnal Flower. I’ve always suspected they’re close to twins but had never done a side-by-side. They’re actually closer than I thought they might be – nearly identical, including the openings and progression. There is really only one difference I detected, and that is the quality of ingredients. Carnal Flower is smoother and more buttery; right up next to it the Gucci smells a touch raspy, which I hadn’t noticed before. In essence: same perfume, one made with higher-quality materials.
Roughly 8 hours later both were long-faded enough to try siblings part deux: Aroma M Geisha Noire and Eris Night Flower. I’ve worn Night Flower quite a bit this winter (and Geisha Noire not at all) and it only recently occurred to me that they are cousins. Turns out they are even closer than I thought. Openings are quite different but once past that they’re very very similar. Night Flower has something in it (sandalwood-ish?) that gives it more lift in the drydown, while Geisha Noire, by comparison, goes a bit flat and wears closer to the skin. Definitely siblings, and to my nose smell like they’re composed of the same notes with component parts rearranged.
Happy Friday to you all. We’re spending ours dealing with shopping. My husband went to the grocery store early this a.m. (he gets there just when seniors have cleared out), plus we got a shipment from Target, and he’ll go collect our CSA box in a bit. What with all the processing and disinfecting it’s pretty much a day-long task, one everyone is woefully familiar with by this point.
As an only child, happy siblings day to all! 😀
Wearing a dab of Fendi extrait and a spray of Teatro Alla Scala by Krizia. I’m hard-pressed to guess the difference. I’ve enjoyed the silence working from home. It’s nice to type away without (for the most part) interruption.
Today’s random musings:
1-Hubby and I just celebrated 15 years of marriage Tuesday, His gift to me was 24 cans of industrial-strength disinfectant/cleaner;
2-the smell of freesia on the walk home from the store;
3-while at the store, noticed everyone waiting in line (spaced 6′ apart) was bouncing to “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John. Some levity for a Friday.
Your number one is truly Love in the Time of Coronavirus — happy anniversary, and many happier returns!
Thank you! Who needs flowers when one has Lysol disinfectant?! 😉
Happy Anniversary from another ‘only’. Love the gift!
kpaint, I just realized I hijacked your comment. Sorry!
🙂 Happy anniversary and no worries!
I have both vintage Fendi and Teatro alla Scala. Have always loved Fendi but never really taken to Teatro alla Scala. I get more of a Coco connection (another one I’ve never quite taken to.) I’ll have to give it more skin time.
I’ll unhijack it from SmokeyToes ?
I normally and probably won’t do much perfume comparisons to see how similar / different so I thank you for this detailed comment! I need to find my decant of Night Flower from the Kickstarter campaign Barbara Hermann did way back when,
I totally get what you mean by the slight raspiness of Bloom, although I like it and own a full FB. I have only smelled CF on a blotter but I remember liking it.
Another better quality sibling of Bloom is Fleur de Lalita by Dusita – it’s also greener
Oh? The green aspect is what originally drew me to CF.
Then you might like the Dusita!
I’m in an “accidental” sibling scent pairing today. I originally had picked ELdO Fils de Dieu and Etro Shaal Nur as possibles. But that didn’t happen today.
Instead, I ended up having a “Hey!” moment last night, and went sniffing thru my perfume stash. The accidental perfume siblings I found were:
Byredo Bibliotheque EdP
Rihanna Rogue EdP
The Rogue is a little sweeter and fruiter than the Bibliotheque. Both perfumes share plum and leather/suede notes.
Sounds like they smell similar!
I was shocked when I sniffed the sprayer of each perfume last night. I couldn’t believe how close they were, so today I tested it on skin.
You smell gorgeous, Robin!
Late to the party but participating in the CP by wearing one of my sister’s scents: Rochas Alchimie. I mean *literally* hers. The bottle lives with me so she can wear it when she visits. It’s absolutely criminal that this scent was discontinued.
Happy Passover. Happy Good Friday. Have a great weekend, all!
Ha! Nice.
How nice of her to let it live with you 🙂
Apropros of nothing except that it’s pretty, I’m wearing Zoologist Elephant. I though Vol de nuit might be a sibling but it’s more like how camels and llamas are related.
I have a hot date at the laundromat because my clothes washer broke. Thank goodness laundromats are still open here.
….
Ugh…maybe I’ll do laundry tomorrow. Go home, douse myself in more Elephant, eat pizza and read.
I would do the ladder..
Keep your hot date waiting 😉
Lol I am doing the latter. I’m old enough where Friday night no longer means “I want to go out,” it means “i want to go to bed”. Even if “out” is the laundromat. Every week feels like the longest week ever, I blame Coronavirus.
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure layered with Sonoma Scent Studio Bee’s Bliss
I was looking forward to this and here we are! It’s a delightful combination. I think Incense Pure would layer well with just about any fragrance. Maybe that will be a theme one of these weeks!

In other news, more sad news. My mom had a senior helper from late 2012 until mid-2019. Not him, but his mother-in-law passed away yesterday from COVID-19. She was at the same nursing home as my mom and it had to close down due to COVID-19 running rampant. Whether she contracted it there (highly probable) or after she was moved, who knows. The sad part is that family was not allowed to visit so she pretty much died alone. Just imagine this repeated thousands of times across the country (the world).
I had today off and was originally going to venture out but decided to stay in and just be out and about tomorrow only in order to minimize the stress of being outside by keeping it to one afternoon.
?
Good call on keeping your errands to one day. You’ve had one h3ll of a week. Hugs.
Sorry about the sad news. It’s rough going these days for sure.
I’m imagining you smell fantastic, Incense Pure gets so much love, and I just happened to read a review of Bee’s Bliss over at Perfume Posse, color me intrigued.
I’m so sorry for both of your losses this week, and my heart just breaks hearing about how no one is able to comfort their dying loved ones (I made the mistake of checking the news today). I hope you were able to do something recuperative on you day off.
I have been using IP as a base for years now. It works beautifully with everything. And I am getting much use out of your Vintage Gardenia bottle that you graciously gifted me. It’s more than halfway done. It never got ” borrowed” by a Marzipan member because I always hid it ???
It has been a gorgeous spring day and had to get out for a walk. Everyone else had the same idea apparently so much zigging and zagging to try to maintain an appropriate distance.
This afternoon I’m wearing Rrrose Selavy alongside Lustre. I thought I was a rose lover but have realized I love a dark & sweet spicy rose like Mohur but bright green rose not so much. Lustre is reminding me of Eau de Protection as there is a metallic undertone to me, Rrrose Selavy is similar but a bit darker.
I got my tax return and broke down and got a backup of Dilettante. I’m down to about 10 ml from my first bottle and this is a wonderful spring perfume so I’m glad to be getting more. To diminish my guilt for an essentially frivolous purchase, I matched it with a donation to the food bank.
Don’t feel guilty! You are supporting a wonderful small business that makes great perfumes! But the food banks are really needing help right now, so your thoughtfulness is admirable.
I’m on the verge of buying Slowdive, can you tell I’m rationalizing? Also, Dilettante is great!
What a great idea! And I agree, if we are able to support independent businesses and the arts during this pandemic, no guilt! They need us now more than ever, and we need them. I love the idea of matching the expenditure with a donation.
Oh wow, three muguet sisters! You had me at Diorissimo. I also have and love Muguet Porcelaine (and reviewed it during my May Muguet Marathon), but I never got the chance to try any of Parfums Delrae before they suddenly disappeared. I love lily of the valley/muguet fragrances and own many of them, which is why they appear often on my blog. Right now, the real lilies of the valley are blooming in my planters in a shady spot on our front terrace; they are so pretty and fragrant.
I didn’t get creative on this project, so I’ll just mention my sister’s favorite fragrance: the discontinued Clarins Elysium. If you’ve had a bottle snatched out from under you on eBay, you may have “met” her! She really loves it, and I really love her, so if any of you know of a good replacement that hasn’t been discontinued, please suggest!
Stay well, and if you celebrate Easter or Passover, I hope your holiday is lovely and safe.
It was a real shame to see DelRae give up.
You have a lovely holiday too!
