Thursday scent of the day 2/20

Posted by Robin on 20 February 2020 230 Comments

Almost-Friday, folks! Plus, it's Fat Thursday and the World Day of Social Justice. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: zero points in Starck Paris Peau de Pierre.

Reminder: on 2/21, wear a fragrance by Parfum d'Empire, Parfums DelRae, Penhaligon's, Pacifica or Parfumerie Generale, if you have one. (Yes, we already did a community project for Parfums de Nicolaï). Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter P.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: sandals are from the Ipanema with Philippe Starck collection for 2019, and run between $35 and $55 a pair.

PG Cadjmere and PG Indochine, plus Phaedon Tabac Rouge.

Thank you all for your kind comments to my yesterday post. I feel fine today, so I guess I can have another short walk tomorrow or on Saturday. Small steps.

Jalapeno, I did think of my VPN extension, but it is only used for one website, not NST, so it did not seem it was the root of the problem. Later I realized that website was still open on another tab. So it is very likely it caused my blocks on NST. Thank you!

Good morning! In FM Rose & Cuir today. It reminds me a lot of the greener Hermes l’Eau series JCE did.

We are in the middle of turning the study into a nursery. All my perfume bottles have been moved to a closet downstairs so i have been limited to the few samples, decants and travel sprays i have left upstairs. I am kinda enjoying being forced to try new things :-)

I also thought R + C had an Hermes vibe- Galop in particular.
And exciting about the nursery! I must’ve missed that news, but congrats!

oh interesting! outside of some food-related aversions (i started to hate coffee, still don’t really want to drink any :-( ), i didn’t feel much difference. I was a little less interested in perfumes in general, though i am not sure if it’s because of the pregnancy or just because nothing new really grabbed my attention.

Thank you, i am feeling pretty decent and trying to enjoy the last few weeks of baby puttering around inside me!

Wearing the comforting and beautiful Felanilla. I’m so glad I got a bottle of this.

Tea is MF Sur le Nil, or something like that. Anyway a green flavoured tea with a title with Nil in it somewhere.

Thank, interesting that it reads as a bit more masculine to you. I find it perfectly unisex. It is si gorgeous and it wears so nicely.

Glad to hear you survived your narrow escape. I love watching your photos of Arizona, I spent 6 months there in the early nineties.

I’m wearing Gris Montaigne today, which I found among the chaos of my decant box. I think my next personal project is to go through my samples and my decants and wear anything I haven’t worn recently or, in some cases, at all.

I have about four or five boxes or little bins/containers of decants, and decided yesterday to begin the slow process of alphabetizing them. The initial stage is simply to divide the alphabet in half, A-L and M-Z. I found many things I had forgotten, and many small vials that are now empty. I took the drastic step of throwing all of those out (the empty ones). I was somehow saving them with the idea that I could still remember a scent by sniffing the empty one. Nope to that. I still have to work on alphabetizing the rest and now I have the inspiration of finding just the right size and set of little containers for them all. Right now they are in cartons that range from a shoebox to a tupperware container. It will be worth it though especially when it comes time for these community projects, where I’m always telling myself “I know I have some of that scent, but where?”

Good morning from soggy soaked Atlanta…….

SMELLY NEWS ALERT: Marshall’s has MORE good stuff, including some Guerlain, Laura Mercier, and so forth. I saw Idylle (in the old packaging) and bought a bottle of Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Bianca for $28! Also lots of Kate Spade bath gels and lotions.

SMELLY NEWS ALERT #2: Due to Jada’s lack of self-discipline, restraint, and good stewardship of her disposable income, Jada is not allowed inside a Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Burlington, or Ross until the beginning of Quarter 2. Thanks to the last 48 hours, she has a gracious plenty to confess to Donatella on April 1st…… :)

Scent of the day is Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere. Back to the basics today!

You should! Jada wins a big ol’ enabler pin from me – I stopped by Marshall’s last night and found a bunch of Korres stuff, including their fig shower gel which is both my favorite shower gel AND my favorite fig-smelling thing of all time. I also got their guanabana body souffle which smells great fleetingly, which is exactly what I want from a lotion.

I’ve become a Korres junkie! I’m not really a fig fan but I do love how they interpret it in their products – quite dry and not too sweet. Their Olive line body products are excellent and I have been using their Black Pine skincare since October and I’m very pleased with it as well. No affiliation with the line… just impressed with the quality and the packaging is great. ?

I’m in LUSH Sun layered over L’Occitane orange blossom shea balm as I was hoping I’d get more longevity out of Sun (though I’ve thrown the small 30ml bottle into my bag to tefresh). The result of the layering is not too far off from what Chanel Paris-Riviera smells like.

SOTD is Songes as a defense against cold rain. I finished my sample of Carnal Flower recently and moved it right to the buy list, but I’m wearing my way through the white florals I already own to see if there’s really a enough of a gap in my collection for it to fit.

I mean I do think anyone’s purchase of a beauty like Carnal Flower justifies itself! But personally I have more than a few (…) tuberoses and beachy/tropical white florals in full bottles already–Songes, EL Tuberose Gardenia, Bronze Goddess. None of them dupe CF exactly but do I have an itch one of those can’t scratch, you know?

I’m in DSH Chinchilla for a chilly morning.

Another beautiful bluebird day here, warming up to the low 60’s today. I can see why Arizona is so popular. I didn’t think any state could bump Oregon from my number one spot, but Arizona is giving it a run for its money.

Apropos of nothing, my work place parking has been shifted by the hospital system, so now my van is out of sight and far away while I’m at work. We have to cross two highways to get back and forth. Last night I crossed with the pedestrian light and heard five co-workers screaming right behind me. I turned around to look at what the problem was and saw a speeding car making a right turn at about a 100 mph headed right for me. He never even slowed for his red light or looked as he made his right turn. Lucky for me I was only two steps into the crossing, but I felt the displaced air ruffle my scrubs as he zoomed by. Close call. I would have died smelling of Equestrian, which is a great scent to be buried (or burned) in. ?

Yes! But in pharmacy news, I just learned this hospital system has decided to cut costs by having only one pharmacist after 5pm. One! For two hospitals, 2 ICU’s, 1 CVICU, 2 ER’s and about 16 other units!! I put in med orders the other day and then called because they weren’t getting cleared by the pharmacist. 39 (THIRTY NINE) orders ahead of me!! Plus all the stats!! My patient waited forever for pain meds! I was so hot under the collar, I’m making all kinds of frenimies here! ?

People, please give a lot of love to pharmacy staff! JadainGa, thanks for all you do, and I hope your hospital system takes much better care of you than the one I’m currently at.

Same situation everywhere methinks…..I work for the State of GA, and our governor is looking to cut $6 million from the mental health care system in the next 2 years. Where is the world do you cut that kind of money when we are barely getting by in the 1st place??? Grrrrrrr

Your situation sounds like a real safety issue though, not to mention terrible customer service! :(

Omg, pretty soon healthcare in this country is going to be nonexistent! But I bet those CEO’s, CFO’s, ad nauseum, are still pocketing six figures. ?

I will say, I believe in transparency, so I told the patient exactly what the hold up was so he didn’t think I was not taking his pain issue seriously. I refuse to be blamed for poor patient satisfaction when it’s a facility issue, not a nursing issue.

No kidding! ? It just blows my mind how hospitals are skimping in so many important patient care areas. I feel like handing out flyers to patients as they come in so they know what’s going on behind the scenes. I’d rather have a pharmacist than a tinkling piano in the lobby, and waterfalls in the courtyards. This is BASIC CARE we’re talking about!!

I do on occasion, and definitely when I am out and about at a perfume counter and want to get a preview of a scent.

When my son was home from college over the winter break, we did a hunt through my frags for perfumes for him to sample (yes, I am a totally over-indulged mother!). I first sprayed the perfumes on paper for him to sniff, and then had him test on his skin the ones he liked. There were a few that smelled wildly different on skin. I remember that Le Cri, Encre Noire, Dzongkha, and Santal 33 were among those that didn’t work on paper at all for some reason.

Colleagues made a new coffee this morning called Death Wish. Evidently the amount of caffeine is above and beyond what is normal and hence, you might die from it? I passed on this and waited for the regular brew. Heart racing and the shakes do not appeal even if it does help with energy level.

Testing out Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid, on loan to me for a few days. I’m not getting a lot of the intense oriental I’ve read about; it’s more like a really fruity patchouli on me. It smells good, no doubt, but it doesn’t strike me as – well, it doesn’t really strike me very much at all.

I’m off to the gym. Post shower, I’m gonna try to get back on the CP track.

PG’s Shermine today. Good grief, I’d forgotten about this one and all that came to mind was Lune Feline which I haven’t worn in ages either! SOTD = Angelys Pear. It does go a little sideways in the middle to more herbal and vaguely synthetic cooling, in a masculine sort of way, but it is coming back around to more peary petally now. Seems to be keeping me alert. I like it, on this first sampling. If I still like it after a couple more wearings, I will get one of those practical small bottles. It seems like a good safe for work scent to wear when it is really hot out.
Tomorrow, I expect to wittily participate in the CP. First wearing of that for this year. :-) Wish I had bought a bottle of Wit when I had the chance…

I’m still test driving Bois des Iles. I smelly classy.

So my dad’s birthday is coming up and after some covert research into his olfactory preferences I just ordered a bottle of l’air des alpes suisse for him. I figure this is an excellent choice because 1) my Dad is Swiss and has many times told me about his adventures as a boy in Switzerland and these stories always involved the Alps and 2) his current one bottle bottle of perfume is Davidoff’s Amber Blend and I feel the Tauer is from the same family.

So I got 3 free samples from Luckyscent for ordering. Didn’t they use to give 5? And why have their samples become so expensive? I saw some going for 8 dollars!

I think there was just a discussion about this with insight into sample pricing, let me see if I can find it… Yes! Take a look at Cazubon’s reply to Hajusuuri’s comment from Wednesday.

Yes I saw that but the bottles that the samples were coming from weren’t themselves that expensive!

Some of their samples are super expensive, one I saw for 10 bucks..no way I am gunna pay that much for a sample. I have paid six or seven dollars per sample before but those were for full sized manufacturer vials..not the .7 ml from Luckyscent. I need more value! Lol

Yes, they always give 3 samples, it depends on the total dollar amount of the order but for 1 bottle usually 3. They explained sample price is dependent upon how much discounted tester juice they get from the mfg. If the mfg is not generous, they have to charge more.

Well I don’t know Robin, there are sure a lot of ‘P’’s in that perfume, so I think you partial credit for the CP.
I am commando but perhaps AG Eau su Sud for this late afternoon sun.

No points for me, first time I’m checking in this week, Ciel d’Opale with Bodyshop Sweetenia body lotion, which is a match (sweetenia is obviously simpler and overall less everything, but still a relation).
    Happy Thursday1

Sampling Winter Palace thx to a nice nst’r. Can’t go wrong with spiced tea. Love the orange note in here, reminds me of my favorite tea I am drinking lately, Citrus Sunrise by Celestial Seasonings, all orange goodness.

I hope you find some treasures in San Francisco.

Really late posting tonight! I was asked to be the maid/matron of honor in a friend’s wedding this afternoon, so I had a pleasant hour or so talking about that kind of stuff. Exciting, since I have never done that before!

SOTD = TF Oud Fleur EdP, from the sample stash. I do wish this one came in a travel spray!

It’s finally my Friday! Wearing a sample of Profumi Del Forte ‘By Night Black’. I was kind of expecting a bit “more” from this but it’s a bit citrussy. I’m not getting much else yet.

Very excited for my local greenhouse to open next Friday. They only have a few plants ready this early, but apparently there are lots of new tropicals! My work buddy and I plan to go to just smell the nice spring air. ??❇️

They usually open early March but seem to be pushing the date. Maybe because it’s a Friday opening, just in time for the weekend! People are just itching to get outside.

I think they also stock lots of different seeds for folks who have genuine green thumbs and want to start their plants from scratch. That’s definitely NOT me!

It’s just such a nice place to go, plus it’s 2 minutes from my house! Very dangerous in the best way.

It can be! Thankfully my yard isn’t that big plus I have lots of perennials. I end up buying mostly annuals for numerous pots and containers.

My friend has nearly an acre and is always adding lovely new things!

    SOTD = Pacifica Spanish Amber

On theme with a listed small P! It’s ambery, incensey and resinous?.

I left my cell phone at home so I did not get a chance to post on Instagram or read some of today’s comments during my commutes and lunch time. I survived!

I stopped by Marshall’s the other day and saw a 15mL bottle of Philosophy Fresh Cream Soft Suede for $7.99. Yes I did ?

I’m wearing No.5 L’eau tonight. My daughter had some trouble in school again today, so I’m gearing up for more phone calls in the morning. I just found out that she has another new teacher. The second in a month! And no one informed me. Change is always hard, but especially difficult for special needs kids.
