Wednesday scent of the day 2/19

Posted by Robin on 19 February 2020 279 Comments

It's Hump Day, and there are 29 days left until the end of winter. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking partial community project credit in Providence Perfume Co Vientiane.

Reminder: on 2/21, wear a fragrance by Parfum d'Empire, Parfums DelRae, Penhaligon's, Pacifica or Parfumerie Generale, if you have one. (Yes, we already did a community project for Parfums de Nicolaï). Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter P.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

That is a beautiful photo Robin. I feel as though my day has started off so peacefully by looking at that photo..
We have lots of Buddha’s around our apartment, they are like little reminders.

SOTD is Shalimar ( I know I am boring )

I haven’t made anything hot to drink yet. Having dal and rice for breakfast

A bowl of dal and rice sounds glorious right about now! Yum!

Shalimar is never boring…..always glorious too!

I have a lovely and serene statue of Kuan Yin on my nightstand. I like to look over at it, and then try to match her facial expression.

I have always wanted one of the Aldo Londi ones…like this:

          https://assets-vinterior-1.vinterior.co/uploads/listing_image/image/2210886/vintage-bitossi-chinese-decor-blue-pottery-kwan-yin-aldo-londi-italy-aldo-londi_0.jpg

Of course, coveting expensive antique pottery is not hardly in the spirit intended! But I’d like one all the same.

Smelling wonderful in Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple. Beautiful, comfy scent sadly discontinued. Love it, especially in cold, sunny days, like today.

I have TMT too, but I see (smell?) it as a warm weather scent. Amazing how differently we can perceive the same perfume.

TMT smells very sweet on me in warmer temps. It has an incense vibe that is more pronounced in cold weather and that I really enjoy.

Today I am wearing Lake by Rosie Jane. I received a sample from a very generous NST’er at the last freebiemeet and fell in love, purchased a fb. Over the years I’ve seen numerous fragrances described as “orange creamsicle”, but this one hits it right on the nail. Love it.

If you love orange creamsicle, get thee some Bath and Body Works Snowy Citrus when it comes back at Christmas time. It is spot on and would layer well with your Rosie Jane!

Parfum d’Empire Iskander from my sample set that I ordered ages ago. It’s a lovely scent, I’m glad I’ve got a little more left in my sample.

Tea is Earl Grey vert primeur by DF, a green Earl Grey.

    Good morning Y’all….

Wearing a treasure hunt winner today…..Bvlgari Omnia. I found this goody at Marshall’s last night in the clearance bin and squealed out loud! :) Having good luck with finding good stuff lately…
The batch code is 2015, so wonder where this bottle has been hiding all this time?

Very pretty and soft chai tea and exactly what I expected, but longevity is pretty terrible.

In other smelly good luck, I also found a bottle of Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille for $12.99! Smells like straight up coconut cake on my skin….. Good time to shop the discount stores now that Christmas is over and the stores are restocking!

YES! The original! It was $39.99 for the small bottle….I snapped it up!

They also had several Jones NY fragrances that I’d never seen before. I’m also on the lookout for some Korres scents that have been seen in store…..

Jada I just found a Korres Lilac and powder perfume and lotion at my Marshalls for 4 dollars! It’s in a big odd shaped box. It’s not very apparent that it’s perfume at first glance.

Last week I found a Korres Amethyst Oud for $6.99. It’s really great, but will probably smell better on my hubs. I wish I had bought the Emerald Oud at the same time…now it’s gone!

Was going to comment here that I saw an unboxed but full 100 ml bottle of Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom at Marshall’s the other day. It was $100. No idea if that’s a good price…

I’m in Nanadebary Bronze again today. I’m noticing that it blends especially well with food and drink, such as my coffee this morning. It’s like having a sprinkle of cinnamon over one’s latte, only better somehow. I had it on last night as well, and it enhanced my bedtime tea’s fragrance. I almost want to go back to school and learn about brain chemistry and how it works with scent and flavors. Almost. :)

Ooh I have your SOTD Robin – I will try to remember to wear it Friday for partial credit.

In Bois des Iles. I’m testing this to see if I should buy it or Coromandel for my bday next month. It’s nice and reminds me a little of Nivea cream. Anyone else have that association?!

Today is the first time I went outside after staying five months indoors. This February is uncharacteristically warm, and it is a dry and sunny day, so I had a short walk. I hope my back will continue to improve without setbacks.

I am wearing Parfum d’Empire Eau Suave on my neck and a bit of Philly & Phill Midnight On Max Street on my wrists. Eau Suave is a rose chypre (reminds me of Soir de Lune and Coriandre), and Midnight On Max Street is a cozy oud with plum and cinnamon. I like both, but I think both are better enjoyed outside in winter or early spring/late autumn. Today the weather was right for them.

P is for Project Renegades Geza Schoen. This is a fine pepper-woods-iso thing, but it is so similar to other pepper-woods-iso things (for example, my current shower gel) that I don’t see why you would have to go renegade in order to make it to make it.

Participating today in Parfum d’Empire’s Ambre Russe. Just a dab though because I have an appointment and this one is quite boozy. It always makes me think of someone who posted (maybe it was Deva?) that they wore this to work and was asked if they had been drinking, lol. I took note and never wear this one to work. No one wants a tipsy smelling nurse.?

Sotd was Infusion d’iris by Prada. Yes it starts with a P, but far from small-ish ?
This is one of those scents i prefer for warm weather or those situations where I have to stay in one meeting room with lots of folks for more than one hour haha.

I had a training, so thats why.
It was interesting but also information overload.

Luckily we wrapped things up earlier than expected so now I have this window of opportunity to do some jogging/running…because its not dark outside. Yay ?

I did a little LUSH damage yesterday, and came away with things I didn’t really go in to buy. I was looking to see if they got in the other newly reformulated pressed conditioner bars. Jungle, in particular. I bought it in it’s former iteration many years ago because of I looove the smell (passion fruit, banana, green-ish fig), but it was a failure as a functional product so I never used it again. Anyway, they said next week.
But, I left with a solid of American Cream, which I’m kind of addicted to and am wearing today.
And a 1oz bottle of Sun, because Orange! Freshly juiced orange and tangerine, with a rather hippie sandalwood base. Love it despite the meh longevity.

Nice haul. There is something addictive about the scent of American Cream, isn’t it?
Jungle does not work well as a conditioner for me either, this why I was so excited when they released it as a body spray. I recommend it if you love the smell, by the way.

I never would’ve been drawn to AC (I’m not drawn to sweet/vanillic), except that I bought the solid conditioner- which is great for me as an actual conditioner- and the scent really grew on me.
I smelled the Jungle body spray but it didn’t smell the same to me as the conditioner scent. Maybe I need to spray it on skin to see how it morphs?

Hm… I have not tried the conditioner in ages, but I instantly recognized the scent in the body spray. Maybe the spray is greener and woodier, while the conditioner is fruitier. Yes, trying it on the skin might give different results, but so far it seems fairly linear.

Yes, the conditioner strikes me as lush green and fruity. The spray smelled mossy and woody to me. But there’s always sensory overload in those stores.

Some of the solids don’t have as much oomph as the perfumes- I could barely smell Sun in the solid form.
I like both of those perfumes. I also really like The Smell of Weather Turning (it reminds me of missionista). Nice that they make solids for many of them. I hope you get to smell them soon!

I have a prejudice against that perfume–when I was last poking around the Malle counter at Nordies, the perfume salesperson was wearing MR, and was raving about it. The problem was that she was wearing an inch thick slick of make-up that put me off my game. So I always associate MR with weird, thick, make-up–having zero to do with how it smells.

Sometimes pockets in (fancier) jackets and trousers are stitched up so they don’t stretch in transit to the store. With luck a seam ripper will set them free…

    I am testing . . . Rose Prick.

In my opinion–ladies and gents, hold on to your wallet. It has a whiff of Amouage Lyric (almost like orange/clove but not quite), what I would characterize as spice-lite, and then a pretty, albeit sophisticated patchouli-ish, floral patchouli drydown.

Of course, take my opinion with a grain of salt because 1. I did NOT like Lost Cherry (just for reference); and 2. the perfume seems underpowered for a TF, which may mean that I am anosmic to much of it, and perhaps to its charms.

The “prick” if not the rose, seems aspirational!

And I got through that entire mini-review without giggling once at the name ;-)

I dragged myself to an afternoon class too! I am proud of both of us!

I still cannot do crow, after all these years, and I bruised myself trying today, ha! When I was on vacation last week I went to a “beginner” class where they did crow — HA, I have been doing yoga for years and did crow once for about 5 seconds and that was my high point. Good thing I did not try the “advanced” class, I probably would have killed myself.

They said Jorum is less generous with discounted testers to them than other brands so they have to charge more per sample. I thought it was only based on the sales price of the bottle but apparently not.

I think I was playing hooky the day I sampled it from my 15mL bottle and just left it somewhere in a pile – ha! The other ones are still wrapped.

In Penhaligon’s Elizabethan Rose first version. IT’S an old school rose English rose which is surprisingly tenacious, the drydown resisted the bath I took this evening.

I know alot of people like perfume to last all day, but I prefer to have it gone after a bath. That way it’s a clean slate for something else?

        Maybe the bergamot?

It’s a note I love normally but no matter how much I **want** to love Earl Grey flavored chocolate, it’s never the smash success I imagined when I bite into it.

Sometimes two great things don’t taste or smell good together, or at least not for every taster! But that’s the fun part of perfume too is that so much of it comes down to individual preference.

I agree on two great things sometimes being not at all great together. I love mint and love chocolate, but don’t like mint-flavored chocolate at all. That means more for the people who do love it, though. ?

Thanks to Regina’s aha! moment yesterday, I’ve pulled out a load of samples that fit the cp. Today, Parle-Moi de Parfum’s Guimauve de Noel. Denyse of Grain de Musc has this to say: “This is Séville à l’aube’s Provençal cousin playing Sugar Plum Fairy.”

Calligraphy Saffron, because it got colder today. On me it’s dry, herbal saffron with just a touch of rose.
Finally got my used bottle of MKK today, so liberally sprayed myself. It reminds me a lot of unwashed sheep’s wool. I am a spinner and knitter, so I like the scent a lot.

I’m late posting again. I had to do some correspondence today and house organization plus visiting Mom, a bit of shopping, time goes by…. In looking for some “P” scents (that sounds bad!), I decided to begin alphabetizing my samples…. Huge project, begun with just a few little bins. (I have way more in A-L than in M-Z. Is that unusual?) I found more options than expected. I chose Penhaligon Amaranthine which it turns out I love! Ylang-ylang, so no surprise. Discontinued, alas.
I got mad at a “friend” today who invited me to a conference… a rather small and select one, where there will be about eight speakers. I would just go to be an active participant, I guess. OH, and, pay my own travel, hotel, meals, and a $175 registration fee. I wrote straight back to say thank you, but I won’t make it. Am I petty? Retired folks don’t get fat travel stipends—hello!

I should be wearing a different Penhaligon’s every day this week, as I have several I like a lot, but I’ve been mostly commando as I’m getting over sinusitis and a head cold! I should be back in full “perfume mode” by tomorrow, though, so one of the Penhaligons will be taken out for a spin!
