Thursday scent of the day 1/23

Posted by Robin on 23 January 2020 222 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy Pie Day! A couple of (French) birthdays: Stendhal and Édouard Manet. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in L'Artisan Parfumeur Timbuktu, thanks to BobH.

Reminder: on 1/24, you're Among Friends...wear a fragrance someone else wore in the scent of the day polls this week. Suggested by Regina.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

BobH has had great choices this week. Today, however, I am wearing Chergui, which I saw mentioned in passing in an extended comment session.

    Shalimar body powder
A few nights ago I followed SmokeyToes advice and sprinkled some in my bed, I had the sweetest sleep and felt like an Indian Princesses

Tomorrow it will be Samsara since that was a hit this week by some NSTers. I have a bottle of the parfum, and will dab some on!

I’m in another Artisan thanks to Gaynor, Tea for Two, which I had not worn in a while! Lovely scent and very wearable.

I’ve read just about every obituary on Terry Jones since yesterday. Some very funny and very heartfelt comments about him. I’m sure he will be missed by many.

I am wearing Bois d’Ascese by Naomi Goodsir
It smells like a campfire and after an hour it develops into a nice woody tobaccco.

Its my husbands signature so I dont wear it that often (it feels like wearing someone else’s coat…even though its a very comfy one ?

I’m about to pop into the shower. After that it will be Seville à l’Aube, worn yesterday by another NSTer.

Is that a slice of Déjeuner sur L’herbe I see up there? I can’t tell. In any case, I still remember my gasp as I rounded the corner at the Musée d’Orsay and saw it for the first time. And then turned around and saw Olympia behind me. I had fallen in love with both paintings in a class in college. And one of the best exhibits I ever saw at The Met was from Velasquez to Manet…it also included Sargent and others who were influenced by Spanish style. Stunning. I’m a total fan girl of those artists…

So, I guess that settles it. Seville a l’Aube is entirely appropriate!

Testing Gucci Memoire D’une Odeur… wish it was MORE. Love the bottle, juice color—the 70s feel of it. But the perfume does not wow me. I have applied so much of it, that I am suspicious that I may be anosmic to some of what it has to offer.

I know some people have trouble smelling Memoire, I think cm8 said it was very fleeting on her. On me though, 2 sprays is almost to much and I can smell it all day.

You mean to see if it’s the real deal? I got my samples made at the jc penny sephora, maybe check in store? But I do think that most people have said they found it to be very light, some have even said skin scent. There must be something in there that reads very loud on me, because I’m used to wearing powerhouse perfume and I still find it strong.

I had planned on getting up at the crack of dawn to do last minute stuff, but it was dark and cold and I was warm, cozy, and comfortable. Fast forward, just now for the larder stocked, gassed up the tank, and emptied the trash, toilet and doggo in their respective receptacles. Sheesh! I’m lazy.

Inspired by the excellent taste of IrisJasmine, I’m once again in SL Vetiver Oriental and tootling towards the Grand Canyon.

I was anticipating an episode of reeking havoc to erupt any day now, but I don’t think I’m gonna be able to do that today – this is a powerhouse! I was very excited to be able to place an order for Juste un Reve from BeautyHabit but received a refund yesterday and an email saying they were no longer able to send “dangerous goods” to Canada. I am so tempted to make a sarcastic political joke, but I will let you make up your own and also to ponder the potential danger of a Canadian with a fruity floral in her hand. I think I will wear Ta’if after I go to the pool.

Three or four hearty sprays of Ginger Piccante, again thanks to a decant from hajusuuri :) Fits the CP because I started badly wanting this because many of you lauded its virtues (quite rightly). I will be sorely tested to buy a bottle when my decant is empty. I wonder how long I’ll be able to maintain my no-buy.

Hi all! Haven’t posted in a while. ?hope everyone is have a great day. I’m gonna be testing some samples today so I’m scentless at the moment. I have a question I hope to get some help with. I had the bronze goddess shimmering oil, loved the scent, but the shimmer irritated my skin so bad I had to re-home it. I’d like to get the scent again but find the line confusing. Which is the closest scent to the oil the eau Fraîche or the Eau de parfume? Or is there any real difference between the two? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe it’s closer to the eau fraiche. The perfume version is relatively new to the line. I haven’t smelled the oil in a long time though, just going by memory.

Thank you! I figured it probably would be. But I’ve yet to find a review comparing the too. I suppose I’ll have to brave the wilds of the local mall and see if I can sniff it out myself. Lol. If it’s the Eau Fraîche, I should be able to get a good deal on Walmart’s website next month. ?

SOTD = Rania J Ambre Loup

I am continuing Indie Week. While not on CP today, perhaps someone will copy the perfume or the house. This perfume is one of the best ambers I have in my collection!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B7qXYqnhPo3/?igshid=1kzpnd8a0nt4a

I ended up buying Lush Turmeric Latte Body Spray yesterday – right place, right time, after trying to get it in NJ to pay a lower tax. Anyway, on a comment I left to thegoddessrena, I was SHOCKED at how much more expensive this one was compared to the others. I paid $29.99 for 2 others and this one was $49.99! When I asked the SA why it was more expensive, she said that’s the price point the company decided. Okaaaay, that doesn’t answer the question! She could have said the price of ethically sourced turmeric and tonka had gone up. I haven’t bought any other LUSH products lately so I don’t even know if this was a fluke or if the prices have all just gone up! Also, at the store, I saw the same homeless woman (from a week ago) washing, then hosing herself down with several perfumes.

Now that I think about it, I experienced a price difference several years ago on the solid shampoo. I saw a sign for one, bought another one instead but was not quite prepared for the small price difference and I insisted on only paying the amount I saw. The cashier relented as I will not get off the line until my transaction was complete.

Went to the post office to ship my freebie to Sebastian and also have passport photo made, it took me four trys to get an acceptable photo. Glad it’s all done.
In Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille, but it looked for a while as if it was going to be vintage Coco EDP. I’m a long time lover of the EDT, but I’m warming up to the EDP.

Thank you Lillyjo. Yes, in general I think the EDP is more popular and it smells more ‘Chanel’. I remain very fond the EDT for its spicy edge, very noticeable in vintage version. Well, I suppose it justifies owning the two.

I think you’re right. The current edt smells closer to the vintage than the current edp, imo. My skin tends to turn it though, in the drydown unfortunately. Otherwise I would own the edt too.

Why is it that taking an acceptable photo for an ID is so difficult? I recently renewed my driver’s license, and was allowed to use the same photo I already had. But they made it look worse! I was able to compare new and old license side by side.

It’s fun to be different. It wouldn’t be very interesting if we all smelled the same. ?

Not following the CP today. SOTD = Relique d’Amour EdP, from the sample stash. Just got my credit card bill for December… that is definitely a push to keep the “No Buy” going.

Thank you! I probably should have set aside the sample for testing around Easter. It won’t last that long, though. I have been enjoying it too much now.

Woohoo, it’s my Friday! I’m wearing Samara edt tonight as it has been mentioned here recently, and it spoke to me as well. Haven’t worn this forever.

Off to enjoy reading the comments!

Samsara in EdT and EdP are both desert island perfumes.

The EdP is a heavier scent and feels ‘warmer’ to me. There are also more floral notes in it. They are definitely related.

Good evening! I spritzed on Atelier Cologne Vetiver Fatal while the folks are at choir practice, then took my bath not long afterwards.
Oddly, I was getting the same “Play-Doh” note from this one as from several of the Ormonde Jayne samples I tried and from Tauer Amber Flash. I wonder what the heck I’m perceiving that way.

I don’t find that note unpleasant, but it overwhelms the other aspects of those scents for me. Oh, well, I got maybe half an hour of a try of Vetiver Fatal.

I’m wondering what could create a “Play-Doh” note in those perfumes, too. But I haven’t smelled any of them. So I guess I’m not much help without sniffing data.
