Happy Almost-Friday, happy National Science Fiction Day, and happy 9th day of Christmas (ladies dancing). What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m taking a community project point in Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu.
Reminder: on 1/3, wear a fragrance to match Classic Blue, Pantone's color of the year for 2020. ("A timeless and enduring blue hue, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. Imprinted in our psyches as a restful color, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser like clarity, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue re-centers our thoughts. A reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience.")
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello, still from the seaside. It’s my last day before going home.
Sotd is Memo Winter Palace.
That scent has been popular on NST
Enjoy the sea
Thank you, the weather has been lovely so far.
Yay, you brought it! Enjoy your last day and a safe trip back!
I did! Thanks
I bought myself a bottle of Winter Palace for Christmas too.
Keeping up with my own animalic theme I am in Amouge Beloved.
I love the dirty animalic rose opening
I am sipping chai tea and listening to Le Trio Joubran which is 3 brothers playing the oud. Goes well with my chai tea and Beloved.
I’ve listened to them before – quite good. I have their Majaz album. In a more fusion-y vein, I also like the Ensemble Aromates album titled Rayon de Lune.
I am listening to your Ensemble Aromates.
My favorite from LTJ is their Majaz album and As Far. There new album Carry the Earth or something like that is also good..
Ahh, your FIL arrive safe and sound! Enjoy your chai and your company. ?
Thank you Nancyleandros..we will take him out this weekend for his birthday.. he will be 71
Beloved does have a purr in it. My cat licks my wrist when I wear it. You smell beautiful.
your cat has good taste
Beloved was a quick sample THUNK for me.
Ooops… I meant a quick THUNK as in “used it all up”!
I know it’s beyond late but I was so amazed that we wore the same perfume today that I decided to comment anyway. You (we) smelled great!
Milk of Flowers since I have a job interview in a few minutes
Good luck! ☘
You go, goddessrena!
Hope it went well!
Wish you luck
Knock ’em dead
Hope it went well!?
Hope it went well!
I hope that your interview was a good one! ?
Hope it went well too!
Good morning! I hope you’re enjoying your time off, or adjusting ok to the first workday of the new decade! It’s the latter for me
SOTD TF Ombre Leather.
Ombre Leather is one the TFs I just can’t resist; you smell so good!
I added yellow and went with Muguet Porcelaine today, bright enough to cut through this gloomy day. I’m incredibly tired and hoping today goes quickly.
Hope you find some energy and cheer in the Muguet, and can get home soon to rest.
I am joining the tired club!
There’s at least 4 of us in Club Tired… ?
Waving to everyone who is headed back to work today. I’m in Encens Mythique.
New Year Greetings to all: may your sorrows be fewer, your cares lighter, and your joys much greater in 2020!!!
You smell wonderful! That was my New Year Eve scent.
A beautiful way to start the new year!
FearsMice, you smell so lovely. I think you would fit right in with the morning I am having with your perfume. We can be transported to the Orient somewhere…
Have a great start of the new year and hope you get all the perfumes you wish for
Oh yes, I’d love to be transported along with you to a fabulous place; we’d smell terrific!
Chai = FIL? Enjoy!
Hello, and happy 2020 to you, also! Yep, back at work.
Be well and happy!
A very happy and healthful New Year.
Same to you, Aurora; no sprained ankles and such this year, I hope!
Happy New Year!? What a lovely greeting, the same to you!
Happy New Year to you, FearsMice!
Wishing you smooth sailing in 2020, Jalapeno!
No points for me today, but my scented year is off to a good start with Incense Rosé. Kind of a sparkly purple-pink in my head, the color of NST purple but with more blush.
Analytics on 2019 perfume usage are complete! (“Analytics” is quite a highfalutin word for the simplistic spreadsheet counting I did.) I did have a number of unscented days, which makes sense given the circumstances of the past several months.
My most worn fragrances were Passage d’Enfer (a repeat most-worn from 2018) and Jour d’Hermès extrait de parfum, each of which I wore 12 times. These were followed by Camel, Mohur, Safran Troublant, and Amari, each of which I wore 11 times. In 2018, by comparison, I wore my most-worn fragrance only eight times.
In terms of most-worn houses, l’Artisan Parfumeur rang in at 35 times, followed by Hermès at 24 times. In 2018, I wore Hermès 26 times, while l’AP came in at a lowly third place with 17 times. (Serge Lutens was #2 with 18 times in 2018, which fell to #6 with 14 uses.)
In general, I rewore perfumes more in 2019. I wore 153 (!!) unique perfumes in 2019, while I wore 201 unique perfumes in 2018. That is consistent with my lower sampling rate of 2019; I’m much less interested in discovering new perfumes now than I was the year before.
In 2020, I hope to continue to focus my attentions on my favorite scents. As I purchase less and spend more time with my collection, I look forward to polishing off more of those swiftly evaporating decants so my collection is whittled down to my manufacturers’ bottles only. I do want to buy a FB of Camel (I have maybe 1/3 of a travel spray right now). There are plenty of other things I would like to buy but really shouldn’t, so 2020 may only see the purchase of a single bottle
That’s all of my end-of-year perfume analyses/resolutions. What are yours?
I enjoyed reading your breakdown. I didn’t keep track, but can tell you off the bat that all my lovely, unique perfumes (Lutens looking at you: MdB, FeA, Chypre Rouge, even Santal Majuscule), did not get much wear. Safe for work is a consideration and Hermes, Bas de Soie and Etro Shaal Nur were staples.
Chypre Rouge! I love that one.
Ah yes, that’s a good point! Some of our favorites don’t get much skin time because of their unfriendliness to those around us and most Hermèses are lovely or at least sheer enough to avoid that exclusion! I’ve really enjoyed keeping track of my perfumes for the past two years in a simple spreadsheet, and I hope to continue doing it in the foreseeable future.
Love your analysis! It’s interesting that some scents stand the test of time and others fall to the wayside.
Yes! I was surprised by some of my taste shifts and unsurprised by others. My spreadsheet also has room for comments, and helps me understand if I should give away or swap certain scents
I love reading breakdowns like this! They fall into the same category as the perfume cabinet posts for me.
My empties for the year: 76 samples, 12 decants and 1 full bottle. My 2018 total was 81 samples and 2 full bottles.
I’m kind of surprised the numbers were so close, since 2018 was a quieter year emotionally than 2019, by far.
Someone inquired yesterday about top 10 desert island fragrances. Man, that’s a tough question. A couple stand out, like Shalimar and Coco, but I didn’t get much farther. ?
WOW! That’s a lot of empties. What were your full bottle empties for both years? I should start tracking when I empty things, too.
That is a tough question. Let’s see, I’d need Camel, Mohur, Jour d’Hermès extrait, Passage d’Enfer, Ambre Narguilé, Cedrat Enivrant, LADDM, Incense Rosé, Vétiver (Guerlain), and Honey and Crocus. That’s ten. There’s a lot of arbitrariness, especially for slots 6 – 10, but I’d be pretty happy for the ten I picked? I think? Hmmmmm. Maybe if I could have a top 20, it would be easier.
My 2018 empties were Lavanila Vanilla Lavender and Caudalie The Des Vignes Eau Fraiche. I emptied a lavender sleep spray from Origins this year. It’s funny, all three of these I used in the evening before bed. I have yet to empty a daytime use fragrance! ?
I’d definitely have LADDM on my list, and Coco and Shalimar as well.
Nice! I guess when you only have a few nighttime scents, it’s easier to use them up? All three of your empties sound lovely!
?♀️That was me. I love reading top 10 lists! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read Victoria’s 10 in 10 post over on BdJ.
Hello mtg! ?? I’m a fan of top 10’s also….I’ve been going through food blog emails listing the best recipes of 2019. I am bogged down!
I read the BdJ article; it was quite good. Thanks!
Nice! My most worn was a 3-way tie for first place with 9 wears each for Dilettante, Terracotta and Dear Polly. Favorite discoveries of the year were Chinchilla, T. Rex, and Corsica Furiosa. I’m sort of the opposite of you – I am interested in sampling more this year, and buying less FBs. Because my collection is big enough, but I still want to know what is out there!
Nice top picks! (And hooray for another tracker!) I’ve never tried Dear Polly or Corsica Furiosa, but both of them sound very intriguing. Happy sampling in 2020! Maybe you can tell me what your top few favorite samples are and I’ll check out those few
Love Dear Polly and CF. Great smelling year!
I don’t track my wears. But I’m looking forward to very little sampling in 2020 and a lot of wearing my full bottles, of which I have too many. It will be a low buy year.
High five for low sampling/FB wearing in 2020!
fantastic! I enjoy learning how, what, and why we wear perfume.
I’m also hoping to use up more of what I have this year, especially samples and decants.
Me too! So what have you learned about your how-what-why? Happy using up in 2020
I realize I always go for the comfy scents in winter and colognes in summer ? I’m very predictable ?
I love reading your breakdown. I wish I knew how to use excel, I’ve never had to for work or home, but then I’d need a bigger collection to put into the spreadsheet I guess, lol.
Hahahaha. Isn’t that a great incentive to learn how to use it?
Yup. I wish I could spend my 9 hours at work analyzing perfume spreadsheets instead of the annoying data that I look at. ?
Think of all the pivot tables you could do! lol
Hi Koyel, I’ve been in and out this year so missed a lot, but I am sorry you had a tough one. A really tough one it sounds like. On perfume, I started using the basenotes scent of a day about a year ago, which might be a bad way to do it as I am always afraid somehow it is going to disappear, but for now I can say that my most worn — with the note that I often where more than one perfume in a 24 hour period:
Azemour les Orangers 20
Bengale Rouge 20
A Chaque Instant 19
I Miss Violet 18
Suede de Suede 17
Tobacco Rose 15
The upper end are things I love and that are also good for work. (Not sure how I define that, but there you go.)
I also wore a lot of Trimerous, which isn’t on the Basenotes data base!
Hoping 2020 is a good one for you!
Basenotes is how I track too, but it never occurred to me that it might disappear! Better figure out a way to download those stats….
Thank you, Amy <3
I love your list. It sounds beautiful. I’d be worried about not finding all my perfumes on Basenotes, too—that’s why I prefer then customizability of Excel. I hope your list doesn’t disappear on you!
Interesting… I don’t see Incense Rose as a pastel at all. And I am impressed with all the data crunching you’ve done with your SOTDs.
I was wondering if you’d bought Camel b4 the end of 2019. Congrats on exercising restraint! Wow your list and summary is so impressive – I should try this while I only have 2 days into the new year. Some of the ideas yesterday were also inspiring and I think I will focus on my newer decants so that they don’t evaporate. That is some good focus for me to keep me from any new buys. My curiosity gets the better of me too often.
SotD is Le Cri de la lumière
Because ElisaP wore it earlier this week and reminded me of its existence and how lovely it is ?
Its effortlessly elegant, and this works for me even though I am not a big fan of rose notes.
This may end up on my fb wishlist when my sample is empty…..
…and happy new year of course!!!
I wish you love, health, well being and of course great perfume experiences ?
You smell fantastic! I never think of this one as a “rose perfume” eventhough I can smell some in the mix.
Great description of Le Cri. You smell lovely!
I love Le Cri, such a delicate scent esp. so for a Corticchiato.
Amouage Blossom Love. First decant thunk of 2020! Very pretty, but it will not be replaced!
Starting the year off right!?
Trying my best! ?
Wow, that thunk was quick!
It was faster than I expected! ?
I’m continuing on with my Guerlain week wearing Apres l’Ondee. Lovely.
And I think that one is blue, although I couldn’t say why…I considered it for tomorrow.
Beautiful! And I agree with Robin, Apres L’Ondee smells blue to me too.
Feliz Ano Nuevo!
Leaving for the airport shortly after a whirlwind vacation in Mexico City.
SOTD = Chanel No.5 L’Eau from my super cute travel spray.
I am going home 3 perfumes lighter ?. At one of the lunches, a fellow traveler mentioned that her 19 year old granddaughter asked for perfume. Scent – vanilla. So the table got to talking about perfumes in general and trying out perfumes, returning perfumes, etc. Anyway, the granddaughter ended up getting Clinique Happy which I would have never pegged as a vanilla perfume. So I told the grandma that I would be happy sending her other perfumes to try. In addition, last night, I gave her the remains of my Mugler Aura sample, Cedrat Enivrant 4 mL travel spray with perhaps .75mL left and Bergamote Soleil with 3mLs left. So while these did not go into an empty metal trash can, I felt like I started the year off with a very virtuous Thunk Thunk Thunk which had to take the place of ? ?? since I plain forgot yesterday!
Have a safe trip home!
That was so nice of you and I’ll bet the granddaughter was/will be thrilled!
That is lovely story. It’s nice to meet people with similar interests and so generous of you to share your decants. Safe trip!
Oh, fun on the random perfume conversation! Maybe you’ve created a new perfumista.
Happy doesn’t smell like vanilla to me either.
Hope you have an uneventful trip home!
Safe journey–hope the trip was fun!! You are only enhancing your good perfume karma when you gift virtual strangers with excellent scents. Hope all good smells come your way (particularly on NJ Transit)!! Happy New Year.
Safe trip home and kudos on the gift thunks!
So kind of you. Safe travels home!
I am so happy when I meet someone who wants to talk about perfume! More than once I’ve handed them decants out of my bag like the crazy old lady I am!
Lol! I’ve done the same!
Crazy ladies unite!
Ha! Same here ?
Safe travels home! I hope you don’t get in at oh-dark-thirty tonight.
I love this! That’s a great story; very kind of you!
Jour parfum is absolute perfection. I have more back-ups than I care to admit to.
I started 2019 by wearing a different perfume every day, to make sure I’d worn everything in my collection. (I made it June, which seemed short!) This year I’m just going to wear what I want, which can be hard to narrow down….
Ah, this was to Koyel!
Hehehe. Yes, it’s spectacular! A kind NSTer sent me multiple little decants before I caved and got myself a bottle. Good for you for stocking up on the precious!
Wow, five or six months of unique perfumes! What an extensive collection; that was very ambitious of you. Just wearing what you want this year sounds like a great plan
How does the parfum differ from the Absolu version?
Safe trip back home!
This was for Hajusuuri!
Spending the morning in vintage Shalimar and spent a half an hour paying some of those pesky bills. I am still arguing with myself right now. Coco Mademoiselle? No 5? Should I even get anymore perfume at all? I don’t know why this is so difficult, I haven’t bought a full bottle since August but haven’t finished a full bottle in months. Not being able to wear perfume at work is slowing the emptying of bottles. I can get away with a tiny dab on me knees much later in my shift. I am going to see the new Star Wars movie this afternoon and I think that a dab of no 19 will do.
I would go with what you would wear more…
For me Coco Md use to be a love for me but I feel like its not the same as it used to be..
No 5 is elegant but I wouldn’t be able to wear it everyday but then the bottle would last longer..
Have you tried the intense version of Mademoiselle? I am curious on how it smells.
At first spray, I liked the intense version better than the current CM, but it dries down more chemically smelling, because of this I still prefer the original. It is darker and more intense though.
I can’t think of a fragrance I have that matches the Pantone color of the year, at least in my mind. Maybe I can think of one that contrasts nicely…a lime green accent might look cool with that blue. I’ll dig around for a fragrance with lime.
Wearing Skin Deep by CJ Scents today – it’s a cedar musk that turns into a long-lasting, soft background skin scent.
I can’t think of any fragrances either…
I just think of my blue bottle of Niki de Saint Phalle
The two I thought of yesterday were Kenzo Air (which I will probably wear tomorrow) and Apres L’Ondee.
I love the thought of that contrast of colors! Well done!
Jacomo Silences. I’m ready for tomorrow’s confession. Could I have been in an Orthodox Church in a previous life?
I love the smell of the Orthodox church. I didn’t know Silences was similar.
Sorry, no, two separate thoughts. Silences is very green and crisp and no incense or dank stone smells. It’s just that I’m looking forward to confession! Something I certainly did not grow up with, but I like the idea here at NST. Sort of ‘fess up and be absolved. And try or do not try to be better next time!
Oh, got it! ??
Oh, confession tomorrow? But i was relatively good?
Donatella is coming!
Aedes de Venustas Grenadille d’Afrique. I think it is more green than blue, but the description fits – peace and tranquility.
It is not the most interesting vetiver scent I smelled, but it is pretty in a quiet way.
I somehow smoosh the word Grenadille into Nile — and come up with green, too. (My brain is just weird.)
Pretty, peaceful, and tranquil: those aren’t bad qualities at all for a perfume to have!
I always think of grenadine when I see the name of this scent.
I’m in Jill Sander no.4 for a day of errands and sun.
Yay for sun! That sounds like a good day!
I have a bottle of that one too but I seem to forget it as it is at the back of the cabinet, you smell elegant.
I use a tall home made bookcase for my perfumes, so nothing really sits in the back. Also, I do a weird arrangement by bottle shape and size. It’s the merchandiser in me, lol
Errands and sun twins!?
Hey twin! Hope it was a good day!
Seeing the sun at this time of year just feels so GOOD!
The weather has been surprisingly mild over the holidays, I’m in the delicately fruity leather AP Traversee du Bosphore.
Same here, except for a one snow storm. With today’s temps and sun, alot melted.
December was a lot warmer for me than November was. Weird.
I am at a loss for the cp. I have plenty of purple perfumes but nothing that evokes that shade of blue.
SOTD is Fils de Dieu for Thursday/Monday.
Ha! Yeah Thursday/Monday sums it up. I woke up yesterday thinking it was Saturday, then “reoriented” myself to the correct day, which I was convinced was Thursday. This week is turning put to be longer than expected ?
I can’t think of a match either, except for Sideris because the box is that color-ish.
I thought of Sideris as well because of the dark blue label. Or perhaps Shalimar because of the cap. I also thought of Robin’s SOTD but do not own it.
These mid week holidays can be very disorienting. ?
I hope that you are feeling better!
I just rememebered the blue Tauer bottles!!!!!
I had that thought, too. The Tauer blue is so pretty, just like the old blue bottle of Hermes Hiris.
Yes! Good call on Tauer and Hermes!
OMG yes! (slaps forehead)
Bottle color seems the way to go. Very few perfumes make me think “blue!”
I can think of a couple purple/on the edge of blue perfumes, but it’s tough coming up with a “true blue” perfume.
Happy New Year! I already wrote “2019” twice today. One of those was on my rent check ?
I woke up earlier than my alarm for a change so spent some time puttering around in my drawer digging out samples, a few unlabeled. I have what smells like Amouage Interlude on one hand (it’s fairly unmistakable), and I think is either Atelier Rose Anonyme or the eponymous Pinrose perfume on the other. Ended up with a small spritz of FM Dans tes Bras on my wrists.
ha! one of the reasons I love online banking so much is that it takes me until March to remember to bump up the year when I write paper checks.
I’ve been puttering in the perfume piles, too. I feel a bit restless, like it’s time to do things differently.
You smell lovely in Dans tes Bras, that has to be one of my most favorite perfume names ever!
Thank you! It is a great name and can’t help thinking of “Dante’s Bra”, as someone called it (can’t recall who).
I’m a bit perfume-restless, too. I think I’m just not as drawn to cold weather perfumes as I used to be. I *could* just wear all the lighter fare, but then I feel bad for snubbing my heavier stuff.
Perfume should be guilt free!
Try just wearing whatever calls your name the loudest.
I would, but that’s nothing these past few weeks ? Though nothing is also an option, I suppose, for someone, somewhere ?
Sometimes if nothing looks good, I start smelling the ones I haven’t worn in awhile. Sometimes too, though, I look at what I have and think, these all have to go! Lol.. perfume is very mood dependent for me.
Mmm I love Dans Tes Bras. Sharing the house in Dries Van Noten with you.
I used to really love it when I 1st smelled it. I still like it, but not quite as drawn to it (as evidenced by the fact that this FM 3.5 ml sample is over 4 years old). I do prefer DVN. You smell fabulous today.
Busy day at work, but wearing the gorgeous Songes edp.
Tea is a nice Christmas tea.
Songes is gorgeous. Enjoy your fragrant and busy day.
+1 to this!
It’s drippy and cool outside today, so I’m in Bengale Rouge. It’s so warming and cozy! Thank you, adanst!
BR is a great cozy scent and I really notice the different stages of development. Perfect for a rainy, cold day.
Me too, Petunia. I love how the cinnamon note sings out at first.
You smell amazing. I love BR and think it has one of the best dry downs ever.
There’s wet and drippy in my forecast for tomorrow and possibly Saturday. ☔
Yuck. I hope you get at least one day of good weather over the weekend.
Tangier Vanille , but its a very forgettable scent for me.
I made my statistic for 2019 today.
The most worn scents are
Fils de Dieu 13x
Felanilla and Covet 11x
l Air de Rien 10x
Lovely Sheer, Terracotta and Untitled L Eau 9x
Batucada, Calligraphy Saffron and Cristalle Eau Verte 7x
Ambre de Merveilles 6x, but i just got it in november….
mmmmm, vanille! I’m imagining you smell delicious.
Your statistics are intriguing. I love Terracotta, so happy you enjoy it too.
We both spend a lot of time in Terracotta this year! And we smelled great.
I really like Covet for in-between days. It wears effortlessly, yet is distinctive.
SotD = Jardins de Bagatelle
BWF FTW in 2020! lol
JdB always makes me smile. Reminds me of a florist’s shop, all the smells of all the flowers, but warm, not refrigerated.
Taking down the Christmas tree today, feeling a little sad to see it go. Until next year then, good-bye little Santas and snowflakes and stars.
Hope everyone has something to feel thankful for on this first Thursday of the year.
I did the same, put away the holiday decorations. Feeling very thankful for health, sunshine and my dear husband and puppy.
yes to all this!
BWFs are pretty good at fighting the winter blahs. I’m always sad to see my neighbors taking down their Christmas lights around this time.
yah, I have to admit I hit the happy flower perfumes pretty often this time of year.
Happy New Year to all, since I did not get here yesterday. One of my resolutions is to enjoy my current collections more and wear special scents everyday!! To that end, I am in Amouage LYRIC and loving it, although it is competing with the excellent beef stew that is perking away in the slow cooker….
Love your resolutions! I need to do that too.
Yes! to wearing perfume loves more often.
Yes, you are!
You rule. ?
Hello Everyone, and Happy New Year!
Haven’t been around lately; sooo much drama. In the month of December, I was laid off from my employer of 19 years. So, job hunting and paperwork, etc. Because my employer provided my housing, also had to move. Within the next two weeks, will start a new job and become a first time college student at the age of 39. Yep, busy.
SOTD is E&J Nirvana Black, from a little rollerball I forgot I had but found when packing. Oh my goodness, the things we tuck into drawers and closets and forget about until we have to pack the whole house up…
Wow – those are some life-changing events. Good luck to you on all fronts!
Thanks, Lisa D!
Hope 2020 is a better year for you, NR! Good luck on all your plans!
That’s the kind of drama you don’t need! I’m glad to hear that things are working out.
I hate drama. And conflict. I just keep making plans and moving forward…
That’s a lot all at once, whew. Wishing you a calmer 2020.
Thank you! Calmer would be so nice…
Exciting times. 39 is a good age to be doing this, it will keep you from becoming boring and staid!
It is exciting! I really think I’m much better prepared higher ed than I would have been at 20ish. I don’t think I would have done well at all if I had gone at the “normal” age.
Oh, dear, that sounds so stressful! Sounds like you’ve got a good plan though. Best of luck with all the transitions!
Wow! That’s a lot, but it sounds like you are handling it well. Good luck with school!
Thank You! I’m doing my best…
Wow, good bye 2019. I hope all the best for 2020!
I hope the door hit 2019 on its way out…
Oh my gosh, good luck with all of this!
Yeesh, what a year! Best of luck with your studies.
That’s alot to deal with at once. Wishing you the best of luck with everything!
you smell fantastic today! I have that same little bottle of Nirvana Black.
One more day of Breath of God, but my sense of smell is coming back, hurrah! I’m determined to play tomorrow, I really love that blue.
Hurrah! Hope you feel even better tomorrow!
Hang in there!
I am thinking of marine blue for the CP… So Epice Marine. I associate ‘blue’ with some of the perfumes I have tried on the men’s side of our department store’s perfume counter…all mainstream like Le Male, Cool Blue, anything ‘Aqua’ …sea breezy, ozone. Later I will switch to my sample of Paris-Deauville for the same coastal vibe. Wearing a breton tshirt and denim and about to put out the washing.
I love Breton shirts and Epice Marine is a beautiful scent.
I’m wearing SL Le Participe Passe today, and it is one of the few “newer” SL scents that I’ve liked. SL was a house that I fell in love with early on, but the offerings over the last several years have disappointed. Le Participe Passe is a throwback, for which I am grateful.
I agree with you on the disappointing recent releases from Serge Lutens, and on the return to form with Participe Passé. An FB is on its way to me from Fragrancenet.
Have you tried La Couche du Diable? I like it too.
I haven’t tried that one, but it is on my sample wish list. How is it, for you?
It seems to me to be in a similar vein to Participe Passé. It’s got a touch of the SL stewed fruit that I like. It’s got oud, but not too much, which suits me.
Despite a decade or more of perfume addiction, I’m still hopeless at describing them
Butting in to say that I think you described it really well. I really liked it and also got a bunch of that retro SL stewed fruit.
I actually have a 5ml decant of Le Participe Passe that I’m looking to swap out because it didn’t work on me. I need immortelle to be so well blended that I can barely tell it’s in a perfume, and it’s quite prominent in PP to me. If you’re looking for more and are interested in a little swap, just let me know!
Thanks, therabbitsflower – I think I’m good with the big decant that I have. I absolutely love immortelle, in just about every perfume that I’ve tried that’s had it. After about an hour or two, though, it starts to wear me out.
I think the best I can do for the CP is say that classic blue makes me think of powdery iris and/or medicinal, herbaceous lavender. So today I’m back to work wearing Infusion d’Iris, basically the polar opposite of the Bengale Rouge I wore yesterday.
You’ve summed up my thoughts perfectly! I find blue a hard colour to match perfume-wise.
I agree that blue perfume is hard to think of. I can only come up with JM Wild Bluebell, although to my mind it’s a baby blue…
Infusion d’Iris is a great back to work scent anytime, IMO.
Beautiful sunny day today. Put away the holiday decorations and did a bunch of financial stuff to budget for the year. All my biggest expenses are in the first three months of the year, so I need to be on top of things. I’m feeling stoked about my 108 sun salutations yesterday, it got me properly energized for the new year! The last two years have been difficult but I’m feeling hopeful for 2020. I am focused on bringing more joy, adventure and connection into my life.
I’m feeling hopeful for 2020 too!?
Happy 2020 to you!
Happy 2020 to you as well!
Happy New Year, cazaubon! Hoping 2020 turns out fantastically for you.
Thank you and I wish you the same!
It sounds like you made it thru all those sun salutations just fine yesterday! ?
Just a bit sore.
Congratulations on the 108 sun salutations! That’s a great accomplishment!
Returning to work for the first time in two weeks is HARD in a way I didn’t expect— I think I might be overdue for a career shift of some sort this year.
I don’t have any meetings today so I’m rocking an ever so slightly slightly office-inappropriate overdose of Chinchilla to keep things cozy.
I hear you. Good to be cozy when facing the shock of the return.
LADDM is my SotD. The cobalt blue mini is close to that classic blue, so partial points for the cp?
Had a busy morning of appointments and errands. The sun is out again and it has warmed up to 44 degrees, I’ll take it.?
I’m loving this sun! It’s like I could reach out and touch spring.????
Sun and mild winter temps are so nice right now! I’m hoping for at least one hard freeze, though, to kill off the summer pests.
Scent at bedtime/early this morning: Serge Lutens Gris Clair. Not on project, but I was curious to try it. I liked it all right, but it’s not a love. It lasted a lot longer than the light citrus sorts of things I’ve been wearing more often than not lately.
I should make a resolution to work on trying the samples I have before getting more. Or, at least, try five or so I have before getting a sample of something new to me. I just need somewhere that’s not the house to do so! (lol)
It’s got to be hard for you to sample. Could an air purifier in your room help?
Sometimes I’ll spray a perfume in my room, and it will scent the entire second floor of the house. But thank you for the suggestion. I just need to go to the house of some friends who don’t mind trying “smellies.” (lol)
Scent of the early evening: L’Heure Bleue. I haven’t tried it enough times to really get used to it, but don’t find it harsh, per se. It’s just different from the usual modern perfumes.
I’m also trying to get samples used up or re-homed before getting more. It doesn’t seem to work that way, though…
Sadly, no, it doesn’t seem to work that way for me, either. Oh, well.
Scent of the late evening: Shay & Blue English Cherry Blossom. Yes, it’s a stretch, but the “juice” is blue. (lol)
I think it will be back to Blue Encens for bedtime/early tomorrow morning.
Noting that I inadvertently celebrated science fiction day by reading The Steampunk Bible. I don’t have the skills to make the clothing or jewelry involved in dressing up, but I have read some of the books. I’m not into grim, dystopian worlds with mechanical devices, but I’m generally good with the lighter-hearted stories in that sub-genre.
I am wearing a very red, literally and associatively, perfume today — Fille de Berlin — both because I love it and because it is so cheerful. I usually don’t think much about the calendar shifts, in terms of years or decades, but why not start off on a good foot anyway?!
I agree, let’s start off optimistic!
Hah, it’s funny that you say that! I love Fille de Berlin but it has always felt really sad to me, a rose in mourning. Wild how that happens!
It’s fascinating how different smells ‘feel’ to different people.
Juste Un Reve, which I think I will put on the To Buy list. It is lovely.
It is, I don’t wear it enough.
Trying to get back into a regular, non-holiday rhythm today, and it’s kinda not happening. So very groggy! Extra tea has been consumed, but I don’t know if it worked.
SOTD = Sole Nero EdP from Spadaro Luxury Fragrances and jepster. It’s lovely! I get vanilla, a hint of citrus, and a very smooth sandalwood. Not at all blue, but I wanted to try it today.
Did you get any sun there today? It really helped perk me up today.
There was a little bit in the morning. Lots of clouds, though.
Was in Kelly Calèche today… for a trip to DMV to give them everything but bloodwork to get the Enhanced ID that will be required to fly later this year…. I had an appointment, so it actually took very little time. Gathering the documents took more time.
Then an appointment for interview later in the afternoon…nothing specific, more an intro and general discussion. It was fairly close to the Hermès perfume boutique downtown, so I was able refresh my scent before my meeting…
Thankfully, my voice held out. Had a sore throat and cold coming on over the last day. Now that I’m home, I’m much croaker. My husband and I seem to have this bizarre tradition of giving each other colds as New Year’s presents… About to drown myself in herbal tea and honey. So looking forward to bed…
Ugh and yuck on the NYE colds tradition! Feel better.
I don’t think those enhanced driver’s licenses are mandatory, are they? I feel like I don’t need one because I always have an up to date passport. Hope you feel better soon.
To drive, the enhanced licenses aren’t necessary. To fly on a plane or get access to a government facility, they are.
Wondering if you can use a passport for government facility…. I assume that means federal facility…
I had to exchange my CA license so made sense to get the enhanced one.
I believe you can use a passport at a federal facility. I won’t bother getting the enhanced driver’s license.
I mean, I am assuming not having one doesn’t let you off the hook for jury duty… ??
Wearing a dab of Prada Iris tonight. I feel like the bad cold that’s been going around the office has finally landed on me; I’m at the sore throat stage. We don’t have any honey at home, so I’ve made some Bengal Spice Tea and had a shortbread cookie instead. Thinking I will stay home tomorrow.
Definitely stay home! Get some extra rest so you can feel better soon.
