Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, and welcome to 2020! It’s also the 8th day of Christmas (maids a-milking) and the last day of Kwanzaa. (And don't forget that Donatella will be dropping by Friday to clear out last year’s damage.) What fragrance are you wearing to usher in the new year?
I’m starting off with Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré, and when that fades I am planning on Aftelier Candide.
Reminder: on 1/3, wear a fragrance to match Classic Blue, Pantone's color of the year for 2020. ("A timeless and enduring blue hue, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. Imprinted in our psyches as a restful color, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser like clarity, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue re-centers our thoughts. A reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience.")
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Herend Royal Bunny Sapphire ("Herend's porcelain figurine collection is completely handpainted by talented artisans at the Herend factory in Hungary with each detailed piece trimmed in 24kt. gold.") is $295 at FX Dougherty Home & Gift.
Going to repeat last year’s resolution of trying more samples than I acquire. I tried 224 scents on skin last year and did manage to come out ahead. Sample of the day is Bluebijou which has a strong blueberry note
Wow. 224! That’s amazing. I didn’t keep track but would guess I was under 25. It was a very busy year with other stuff.
224 is most impressive…of those tried, which ones did you buy more of please?
Mercy Lewis from Sixteen92, Golden Wood from The Harmonist, Sharkskin from DSH, Vine Street from Soivohle and I ❤️ YY from Bogue/Luckyscent. I also fell in love with Une Ile, Un Reve from Nana M but haven’t bought it yet and as much as I adore Poeticus from Cultus Artem, a full bottle is too pricey for me
Thanks! I have heard good things about Sixteen92 but haven’t tried anything from that line yet. I had not heard of Cultus Artem before and looked up their prices…yowzers!
? ? ?- I remembered!
BK Amber Oud as a comfort scent.. Didn’t sleep well last night (I heard noises outside at 3 a.m. and started worrying about everything: Australia’s fires, an upcoming trip, work, my son’s job—you know that train of negative thoughts that just goes around and around in your head…). Despite that, I have resolved to be positive today and do what I can this year to make the world a better place. Thanks to NST and perfume friends for making my world better!
And meant to add Happy NewYear, all!
Amber Oud is lovely
Thx, I agree!
I had to take a sleeping pill to drown out the noise of the partiers and my husband’s snoring, but I’m determined to be positive too!
Oh, that’s a lot to think about in the middle of the night. Here’s to a worry-free 2020!
I know. If I am going to worry about it, I would prefer that it’s at least the middle of the day when I am coherent.
Happy New Year, Springpansy! That 3 am worry train sometimes makes an unfortunate stop in my head too.
It’s no fun. We need to get that train to bypass us. Happy New Year, She-ra!
That 3-4 am hour is my worry time too when I have insomnia. Fortunately, when I do fall back asleep and get up in the morning, things usually seem less worrisome in the light of a new day. Hope the same holds true for you!
Yes, I’m better now, thanks!
Hope you get better sleep tonight springpansy!
Thanks, Robin. Maybe if I count perfume bottles (rather than sheep)…
Amber Oud is a first rate comfort scent. I can relate to the middle of night worries. Problems seem to be very big when I don’t feel well, when I’m short on sleep/healthy food and….at 3am! I hope you sleep soundly tonight. ?
Yes, exactly all of this. Thanks for the well wishes.
Pleasant dreams and restful sleep for tonight! ?
Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit!
Wearing Chanel Paris-Venise. Resting and watching TV today.
Have a relaxing first day of the year!
Yay for relaxing! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! And enjoy your quiet day. Paris-Venise is a beautiful scent.
Happy New Year to you too, Gail! Paris-Venise is a beautiful and simple choice for a quiet, relaxing day.
I think I’ll follow you – a day of relaxations sounds like a great way to kick off the new year.
Trying to relax the most I can today and regain some energy. Tomorrow, work will be hectic again after 2 quiet weeks with many employees off for the holidays.
Smelling good for a relaxing New Year!
Thank you, KellyC!
You are very deserving of a peaceful day!
Thanks! I am really enjoying it!
You’ve had a decent break to chill out and de-stress! You’ve deserved every bit of it.
SOTD: I brought my small decant of Under my Skin, waking up slowly next to a wood stove and reading Persian Boy by Renault. Heading back home soon, but enjoying this quiet moment
This sounds so peaceful.
More peace in 2020
Its my SOTE right now, although i would love it more with abit less costus….
Just relaxing at home today. I am looking at the Chanel travel sprays. It’s a debate on either Coco Mademoiselle or no 5. It’s a pity they don’t do travel sprays of no 19. Does Donnatella count travel sets as a full bottle? Testing out L’Air des Alpes this morning. Will switch to vintage BaV after my shower.
I think you should get both
Wish I could but bank account isn’t having it. I am just happy it’s allowing me one.
L’Air des Alpes would be perfect for the CP this week. I have a sample and like it quite a bit…I would probably reach for it as a summer or spring perfume ( haven’t tried it in winter).
Oh a travel spray of No. 19 would be perfect.
Good morning! Happy 2020! Went for Demeter Blue Spruce this morning.
Happy New Year neyronrose!
Early evening: Trying Demeter Honey. I’m not getting much of a scent, but odds are that that’s me.
Well, your morning SOTD could be an option for Friday.
You and Robin (and others) know how darned literal-minded I am. (lol) I’m trying various perfumes with Blue in the title. I may go back to Blue Encens on Friday — I enjoyed that one quite a bit. I have a sample or two of L’Heure Bleue (sp?) from lovely NST people. That may be what I try sometime on Thursday.
I was trying to catch up with comments from the last few days. I’d missed a bunch. I’ll get my list for Donatella together. I think it was Austenfan who said something about how she and Donatella were best buds these last few months? I could relate. It was a funny line, but I could relate.
If I remember right, I was pretty good in October, after being very bad in mid- to late September. Then I did a bunch of online perfume shopping on Black Friday, as I noted at the time. I think I was relatively good in December? I remember exploring the Fresh perfume and body product section at the local Sephora, and getting some perfumes there…
Brighter and lighter blues than the classic are good colors for me to wear, but I think that darker classic blue would wash me out. I hesitate to judge too much by a color as seen on the computer. The colors Mom and I saw in an L.L. Bean online catalog were quite different than the colors of the blouses we got in the mail. The colors online were much brighter and stronger. I’d say the real-life colors were saddened in comparison to the online photos, but they were also lighter in color. Anyway…
Happy new decade! I’m relaxing and drinking lots of mint tea. Today I cracked open a new bottle of Las Flores from Provision Scents. It’s supposed to smell like Malibu. I definitely think it smells like California, and I adore it.
I love the Pantone color this year. I’m having a hard time trying to pair it with a perfume.
Have a cheerful and relaxing day!
Never heard of that perfume but anything that smells like California gets my attention. I’m thinking of either Piguet Insomnuit or AG Nuit Étoilée for Friday’s blue theme. Wishing you a lovely day & new year!
I’m at a loss on the cp too, sistine. I may just go with Hiris, but that’s kind of cheating.
Hiris was the first thing I thought of. It is cheating, but if my Hiris had not spoiled it would be my pick!
I’m sorry to hear your Hiris spoiled, but that confirms my suspicions that mine also has. I was planning to give it one more try just to make sure, but I’m quite certain it’s no good anymore.
I will replace it eventually with a 15 ml, if I can find one! Mine went quite off, even the base notes.
I can think of a properly blue perfume either. Maybe Epice Marine is the closest I have. Though surely that’s sea green.
I think that maybe camphor smells “deep blue” to me. I do have a couple of blue bottles that I can resort to if I am not feeling the camphor notes.
Happy New Year everyone!
I’m looking forward to everything this year and the new decade will bring!
Today I’m wearing DSH’s Fleuriste, which is my favorite carnation scent and an all-round favorite overall.
That’s a good one — doesn’t get enough mention. Happy New Year!
Thank you, springpansy! I hope it will be a good one for you.
Happy New Year Holly. Your perfume sounds lovely. I haven’t found a perfume to replace my old red CDG Carnation despite looking for quite a while.
Thank you, Kanuka! I hope it will be a good year for you.
I haven’t gotten my nose on CDG Carnation beyond sampling it years ago, so unfortunately I can’t compare it to Fleuriste.
Hello there and Happy New Year Holly!
Hi Jalapeno, and Happy New Year to you!
I haven’t been posting this week, but I’ve been doing a Guerlain week. Up today is Samsara.
I bet you’ve smelled perfect all week!
Desert island worthy!
I completely forgot about the rabbits, as I slept badly because of all the noise. New Year’s Eve was its usual chaotic self in the Netherlands. We tend to be quite a calm country but we go mad with a vengeance on the 31st of December. Lots of people injured and I believe even two people died in firework related injuries.
On a happier note I’m wearing the lovely and understated Satin Doll by Ys Uzac.
Good heavens, I wouldn’t have expected that in the Netherlands. What a shame. You smell great though.
We seem to share quite a few favourites, don’t we?
I’m always amazed at the madness that happens around this time of year. We need to get new laws around fireworks. I love my country but this is just awful.
Nice perfume choice. Sorry about fireworks madness.
Thank you! I know you like Ys Uzac. All my best wishes for you too and a happy birthday to your son! Did he show up at home in the end?
I’m rather surprised to hear about the Netherlands crazy time on New Year’s Eve. I wouldn’t have ever guessed.
It’s very out of character. But it happens, every year…
I remembered to rabbit when I woke at 2 a.m., and again at 7:15 – slept badly in between so am currently plotting my choice of perfume to simultaneously wake and soothe myself. Then I’m going to make German Pancakes (some call them Dutch Babies) while Mr. G makes lattes. Life is pretty good despite the interrupted sleep. Happy 2020, everyone! ??
Oh, I love a Dutch Baby for a late, leisurely breakfast!
Happy new year fragrant friends! I am going out to Balboa Park this morning for a yoga event, we will be doing 108 sun salutations to start off the year. I’m expecting to be very sore tomorrow. ;-). Wearing Micallef Rose Extreme.
That sounds like fun!
I’m up for a challenge, want to get the year off to a positive start!
Happy New Year, Cazaubon! Yay for Balboa Park and sun salutes.
I would love to meet up some time this month and I think I have a brand new BUB of Mon Exclusif if you’re interested…I think you posted you were looking for some. About 2 years ago I believe I bought two bottles from a discount site and now I just have to locate in my Closet of Shame…albeit a very small closet so the shame is mostly contained.
Yes, let’s do it! Email me and we can discuss details.
My first thought was why is Cazaubon in Philadelphia? Because even though I never heard of Balboa park, that’s where I thought it would be? apparently, my phone has heard of it though, lol. Happy New Year!
LOL. Balboa Park in San Diego. Happy new year!
Wow, that’s a lot of sun salutations!
So I asked the teacher why 108 – apparently that’s the number of beads on the mala prayer bead necklaces, and has other significant meanings. But yes it’s a lot!
I know of another. There are 108 movements in the Yang style taiji long form.
You are my hero
Ahhh I wish I had started the year off with 108 sun salutations!
I think 10 or 15 would do me
Happy New Year, everyone!
I’ve been absent from posting due to a slow boil of work and family medical drama. Most of it should wrap up in the next couple of days, and no one has died, so I will soon be through this patch and have more time for the fun stuff like perfume. We are going to make this a great year, with less drama and more fun, no matter what.
No perfume as I’m still sick, but hopefully by this weekend, I will have my nose back.
Perfume resolution— find a swap for a partial bottle of LL Rose 31. Otherwise, I’m quite content.
Wishing you great health and no drama asap!
Less drama and more fun sounds like a wonderful plan.
Glad everyone lived through the drama! Wishing you a peaceful 2020 gvillecreative.
Totally with you on wanting less drama this year!
My goal this year is to pare down unloved perfumes. I plan to sell or swap 6 bottles by 7/1. Seems realistic and attainable.
I’m also going to make a dent in what I already have…that goes for perfume and makeup. More days than not, I feel the need for one more new lipstick or blush and I have several I haven’t even opened yet.
I forget the exact year Vanilla Quest began it’s safe to say the journey will continue in 2020…please join me…
I think I can help you reach your goals.
Glad it’s not just me with the overflowing makeup cupboard. Like you, I can’t seem to stop with the lipsticks (and eyeshadow pallets). I am trying to be on a no-buy for the next few months. Except that I was eyeing up the Lisa Eldridge lipsticks (even before Christmas)!
Good luck with Vanilla Quest 2020.
I have overflowing makeup and tea
It’s makeup, tea, perfume, music CDs, skin care to some extent, and books, especially cookbooks for me. I come from a long line of collectors.
Good luck with all of your goals and vanilla quest!
Enjoy the continuation of your Vanilla Quest! I’m also trying to make a dent in the lippies I have.
Happy New Year She-ra! Hard to admit but my lippie problem is much worse than my perfume problem??
Happy 2020! I was fast asleep at midnight like the old lady that I am, but hope others rang in the new year with some excellent festivities.
SOTD SHL777 Taklamaken, thanks to a very kind NSTer.
I finally got to sleep at 11:30 no thanks loud partiers and a snoring husband. Happy new year to you and T-Rex, you smell great!
I was fast asleep at midnight too. I can’t actually remember the last New Year’s Eve I was up at midnight.?
I was up until after 1am, but I didn’t even toast the New Year last night! I was hanging out on the couch with the cats. ?
You smell wonderful!
Back to dull grey drizzle. We spent all of yesterday in hazy yellow twilight with the smell of smoke in the air ( smoke blown 2000km from Australia). Today the colours in the garden are less surreal and the birds are chirping again. We had a terrific swarm of bees pass through our garden. They moved like a tornado and then stopped for an hour in the trees before rising up in a big column and spiralling off into the pine trees. It was impressive…I read up on scout bees and how they locate new homes and it is mind-blowing.
To perfume: ys-uzac twins with austenfan in Metaboles
If you are interested in swarms. The section on how the scout bees have to agree on nest selection is amazing….just wish I had Zoologist Bee now
It’s shocking the smoke from Oz traveled so far that it even affected you and your air there in NZ. Gosh. But the images from various places in Victoria that I’ve seen have been absolutely hellish, with bright red skies and people fleeing onto boats. So very frightening. I gave a donation to one of the organisations helping Australian wildlife, but it feels like a drop in the bucket.
It seems such a devastating situation with no end in sight. The volunteer firefighters are incredibly brave….we saw footage of a truck engulfed in flames as they drove along a road on yesterday’s news….and the financial strain on the volunteers who are missing out on work income due to fire fighting. It’s hard to think about all the creatures caught in the fires, the huge losses.i wonder how Lillibet (?) is doing ….with the Adelaide Hills fires.
It seems such a frightening situation even without all those financial implications. Heartwarming though that those volunteer firefighters are so brave.
Who is Lillibet?
She was another reader here, but hasn’t commented since 2018.
Is the drizzle helping with the smoke at all?
We had high winds last night, so Seattle didn’t set off fireworks from the Space Needle like usual. I was so happy to be able to hang out at home and sleep without hearing partiers outside. Where I live there is an unobstructed view of the Space Needle and downtown, so people flock here to see fireworks on NYE and July 4th. I was able to be fast asleep by 11:30 because I just can’t hang anymore, especially after a work day’s 5:45 a.m. wake up.
I still smell like the Lolita Lempicka Midnight (or eau de Minuit? I can’t keep track of the different versions and my decant just says Midnight) that I put on last night since I’m still lounging in my pjs. But I will be wearing Bengale Rouge after my shower to keep me feeling cozy all day. I may thunk my little spray sample from Indigo. I was able to jump in and get the last of adanst’s split. So yay, I have plenty of BR to save me from buying a bottle for a while!
I didn’t even work yesterday and still barely made it to midnight lol! Happy New Year!
There was some wind where I am last night, but it didn’t seem to affect fireworks over in Philly. Both displays went off.
Happy New Year everybody, like many it seems NYE celebrations outside kept me awake, as a result I feel tired this evening.
I’m in Timbuktu today, not sure why but it’s been companiable.
You smell great!
Thank you apsara, Timbuktu is such an unusual perfume.
Happy New Year, Aurora!
Thank you Lillyjo, we are both happy to see the back of 2019, I think.
Happy New Year Aurora!
Thank you Jalapeno, may this year be a healthful and exciting one for you.
Happy New Years wishes to all. Love the rabbit, Robin!
I am so glad I moved, all is so peaceful and quiet here. Only fireworks over Long Beach Harbor earlier in the evening.
The year of no spending has begun. I unsubscribed from a bunch of websites, the less temptation the better.
Commando thus far.
I’ve unsubscribed to a bunch of emails too and it does help.
Email *lists* I guess I should say.
But now I feel like I’m missing out!
Boy, I will need grit for this.
I unsubscribed to a lot about a week ago too. Need to do more but it does help.
I am busy unsubscribing as well.
It was a quiet New Year’s Eve for me, except for the neighborhood idiots who can’t tell time and started setting off fireworks at 8:30, scared the poor dog right out of his nap. Fortunately things quieted down pretty quickly. Today is the day I replace things–the toothbrush head, the Clairisonic brush head, and the furnace filter. I do them all quarterly on the first, it’s easy for me to remember. I’m wearing Shalimar Vanilla Mexique.
Here’s hoping your 2020 is wonderful.
You smell so good. Happy New Year!
Now I am wondering about our furnace filter. If there is a filter. I am very good about the water filters and smoke detector batteries, and the stupid dishwasher filter, but the furnace filter, if we have one, is apparently outside of my remit.
Yikes! Do you get your furnace serviced? They normally replace them when it’s serviced. I’m super paranoid when it comes to furnaces. ?
We don’t get it regularly serviced, no. I know we either replaced a part a few years ago, or replaced the whole thing, I just can’t remember. So we are apparently not super paranoid about the furnace!
That’s a very sensible system for remembering to replace stuff.
I’m continuing my complete confusion on what day it is, so suddenly thought I needed to find something for the CP…forgetting completely that it is Wednesday.
I had already done a spritz of a Mitsouko when I got up, but I just added Eau de Narcisse Bleu…which is not what I want to wear as I fight off a cold. Too harsh. Oh well.
I was in bed by 10:30. I’ve always preferred getting up early on Jan 1 for some reason. Drank coffee, filled out my application for new NY Drivers license, gathered all my documentation so am ready for my appointment tomorrow morning. (Swapping out a CA license…). Half watched Rose Parade and am settling in for football. My team won its Bowl game on Monday, so I got no dog in the hunt today other than certain conference preferences.
I’m like you. Having Christmas and New Year’s mid-week has proven to be utterly confusing to me.
I’m watching football today as well, however my team is playing today so I’m starting out the new year a little more stressed than I’d prefer lol!
I have to renew my driver’s license this month. Unfortunately, I don’t think NJ lets you get a Real ID compliant one without physically going to a MVC office.
Just relaxing after a huge “lumberman’s breakfast”. My hubby brought out bacon for this morning, so that along with scrambled eggs and hash browns plus strong coffee to start the day and year off.
After my shower I will probably put on some vintage Shalimar edt.
That’s my favorite kind of breakfast.?
Delish breakfast and you’re going to smell great!
I’ve heard that same thing called a “cowboy breakfast” before. ???☕
That about describes it! We should have been going out to do physical labor all day to work that food off instead of sitting on the couch watching tv.
Happy New Year everyone! I wish for a peaceful and beautiful year for all. Fell asleep last night to the sound of owls hooting, so calming.
My cold is slowly slowly slowly getting better… I can smell a little, today. SOTD is Floraiku First Dream of the Year, a pretty orange blossom.
Not smelling is the worst, because it usually goes hand in hand with not being able to taste for me, and I love to eat! Glad you are feeling better!
Glad your feeling better! Happy New Year!
Nice to hear that you can smell a little bit today! ?
Happy New Year Pixel, hope your cold will go away soon.
Hello everyone. I totally forgot to rabbit this morning. It’s as if I knew it was a new year but forgot that it also meant a new month. Duh! I had a very quiet evening after the “wild” partying at Mom’s senior place in the late afternoon. Seriously–champagne, music, singing and dancing, noise-makers–a fun party! Houston had fireworks downtown but it’s too much of a madhouse to try to go. And as usual people were hurt setting off their own fireworks and one woman was killed when drunk crazy people were shooting off guns into the air “for fun.” Yeah, Texas.
Today I plan to make those golumbki I mentioned yesterday. I’ll let you know how they come out. I realised I’m out of rice so have to go get some.
The Herend rabbit is beautiful, but I can’t see it without an unpleasant memory. Once long ago I was invited to a very wealthy area of town for a party celebrating the Ph.D. of a graduate student in English. She was an older woman and I had served on her committee. Her husband was a bigwig lawyer and the home belonged to one of his clients. My colleagues and I walked around kind of just gawking at everything including unbelievable huge masses of flower bouquets, a terrific food spread, drinks, etc. Among other exquisite objects, the lady of the house had about 1000 Herend animals and objects beautifully displayed. Wow. So anyway, my poor-professor friends and I got our plates filled and found a quiet area to eat in, which was in the guy’s study. That turned out to be filled with memorabilia like signed letters from Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon, framed medals, etc. to the guy’s grandfather. Who was Somoza, the president of Nicaragua. Yes, that guy. When we all realised this the food kind of went dry in our mouths. I know I ought not discuss politics but surely nobody would feel pleased taking advantage of that family’s heritage of misdeeds.
I forgot to say, today I’m trying out Cuir Mauresque, gift of a generous NST-er. I didn’t care for it at first, as it’s got some kind of really weird sweet notes, but now it’s growing on me. Someone online mentioned a comparison to L’heure Bleue, and I’m now picking up on that.
That’s great that your mom’s senior place has a fun party like that! How terrible that a woman was killed.
Good luck with your cooking adventures!
What an amazing story! And a very strange connection to Herend, indeed.
Fico di Amalfi as a pick me up scent in the morning.
We had a friend over for dinner, so i made salad with truffle burrata, then homemade pasta with homemade walnut pesto followed by mousse au chocolat with pomegranate seeds. We made it til midnight and went to bed shortly after that. Had a nice long walk in the sun today and ate lentil soup for good luck and money this year.
Yesterday i wore Ambre Russe as a festive scent.
Your meal sounds amazing! Happy New Year!
I need to eat some lentil soup!!
I did not know until today that lentils were considered a lucky New Year’s food!
The form of the lentils symbolize coins in italy, so you will have money all year!
Such a lovely fig, great choice.
Happy New Year everyone!?
I’m in White Cube and lounging in my sweatpants. Today feel like it is going to be a lazy day, which is just fine with me. The sun is out and the skies are blue, so far a good start to the year. We’ll probably tune into the Rose Bowl later this afternoon. I’ve given up on trying to keep up with what day of the week it is, all I know is I go back to work in 2 more days.
I don’t have any perfume resolutions but like many others here, I would like to make it through all the samples I have accumulated before getting more (often very difficult for me?) and continue to refine my small collection to true loves. I don’t aspire to have a large collection, I know that works for many, but it feels overwhelming to me. I love lists and wonder if you all had to pick your top 10 desert island favorites, what would they be?
Today mine would be: Vintage Obsession, Casmir, Lea, Le Labo Bergamote 22, Vanille insensee, Tam Dao, Eau Premiere, White Cube, Dune and 10 Corso Como.
I’ll have to check back next year and see if these are still my top 10.?
I’m at work, but will chime in later with my list. This needs some thought. Happy New Year!
Goody!? I look forward to your list!
Also, let me know if you’re interested in the Hermès Cedre Sambac, I could drop it in the mail tomorrow.?
I emailed you.
My top 10 today would include Eau des Merveilles, Hiris, Philosykos, Oliver Peoples, No 5 L’eau, Bois Farine, Arielle Shoshana
Sunday, Wood Sage and Sea Salt, Earth Mother and Andree Putman L’Original.
That was a difficult list to come up with! There’s a lot of beautiful perfume in the world.
Ooh, that’s a great list! We share some favorites…Eau des Merveilles, Wood Sage, Earth Mother and L’ Eau. The Oliver Peoples is Byredo? What’s that one like?
I also need to try Ari’s Saturday and Sunday.
I can send you a sniff of Oliver Peoples if you send me your address. I know I had it once but don’t know it now.
You are so kind to offer, but a generous NSTer just recently sent me a huge box of samples that I need to make my way through before acquiring more. Thanks for offering though!?
That is a great list!! Happy New Year
Thanks! Happy New Year ltsg! Do you have a top ten?
2. Encens Mythique
3. My solid perfume of Alahiine
4. Coco Noir extract parfum
5. No 19 Poudre
I will think of more ..
Ok here’s my list
1. Coco edp
2. Alien the taste of fragrance
3. TM Over the Musk
4. Vintage Cabochard
The next 5 are perfumes I no longer have, but would want them with me on a desert island
6. Gucci Envy
7. Dolce and Gabbana Sicily
8. Ysl Paris
10. Givenchy Ysatis
It took the last 4 hours of my shift to think this through!
OK, here’s my Top 10 (of the moment, and in no particular order):
older Opium EdT
older Opium EdP
AG Encens Flamboyant
Alien Les Perfumes de Cuir
I would be extremely upset about leaving behind other perfumes!
Such a good list. We share a love for Encens Flamboyant, it is probably a top 5 for me.
Happy New Year, I like your list very much.
Happy New Year, one and all! We had a low-key evening at a party hosted by some long-term colleagues who are new neighbors, and met some new people there. We were back home and jammied up by midnight. It was a quiet night on our street, but nonetheless I slept very poorly. It is some comfort to read here how many of you had the same trouble.
I baked a loaf of wheat bread this morning, a new-to-me recipe. I have misgivings, but we have not sliced into it yet. For SOTD, I think I may do a blind dive into the sample bin and see what I get.
Hope the bread is better than you expected! A new loaf for a new year seems like a nice thing.
Happy New Year, fragrant friends! I’ve been MIA just enjoying time with the fam the past week. I have been smelling good though- Floris Honey Oud, Wood Sage & Sea Salt, Edward Bess Genre, Orris & Sandalwood are some I’ve worn this week. Commando thus far, but will probably go with a Chanel for the first day of the new decade!
I’m making a black-eyed pea soup (includes ham, greens, etc) and some cornbread for our New Year meal. Made a wonderful charcuterie tray last night for a party. Had a baked brie with garlic and sundried tomatoes that was soo tasty. Also did another baked brie with nuts, dates, and honey. Yummm. Now to get my healthy eating back in order ha!
Sweet and savory brie, you had your bases covered! I need to get on the stick with my black-eyed pea stew. Enjoy your day. ?
Do report back with your SOTD
Sounds like a nice party! Lots of great food. I’m with you on the healthy eating now; just have to get rid of the shortbread cookies first!
Growing up, my family didn’t have any special food for the New Year. I think we were busy eating Christmas leftovers…
Happy New Year Kelly. The food sounds delicious.
Rabbit rabbit rabbit! And Happy New Year! I worked last night and today, but have 4 days off starting tomorrow, I can’t wait! It didn’t even occur to me that this is a new decade, I wasn’t too impressed with the last one. Anyway… wearing Superstious today, and smelling spectacular. My resolution is to get in a position where a little bottle of perfume here and there won’t seem like a big deal. Also, I’m going to try and not sample as much. I would rather wear what I already know I love.
Here’s to a better decade! Happy New Year lillyjo! ?
Yea for 4 days off! You smell great.
Enjoy your long break!
Tough decade for me too, lillyjo. Onward, and enjoy your vacation!
Yeah the 2010’s had a lot of stuff happen that I wouldn’t want to go thru again. Enjoy your vacation! You smell great today.
So glad you are having a four-day break. I have prepared your package and my brother gets back to Paris tomorrow and will post it soon after.
Happy 2020! May it be good to us all!
I’m starting this year with Prada Purple Rain.
You smell fabulous!
Happy New Year, everyone! I’m in Ummagumma, the last of a gallant sample that seems to keep on giving.
I was walking the dog this morning, and a little girl and her dad rode by on their bikes. She saw my pup, smiled and her eyes lit up with glee. She lolled her tongue out like a dog does and just giggled. It was a moment of spontaneous joy. The new year is here, and I want to be more aware of those moments. Yep, I think that’s my resolution for 2020. ?
That is an excellent resolution
I agree, that is an excellent resolution. I had a similar moment recently. I was riding up the escalator into target and a little girl and her mom were a few steps in front of me. She looked to be about 3ish and was wearing her pajamas-which in and of itself just cracked me up- I smiled at her while she held her moms hand and looked back at me. She mouthed the word “Hi” back at me and my heart just melted. She literally made my day.☺️
Oh, that’s so sweet. It’s so nice to have those little moments, because it seems like kids are taught to be more guarded these days than they used to be. Thank you for sharing that story!
Great resolution. The older I get, the more I appreciate those kind of moments.
Oh that’s a wonderful resolution!
A terrific resolution!
Happy new year!
I’m heading to a friend’s afternoon New Years brunch in No 5 Eau Premier, which is suiting me very well today.
I rolled over into the new year looking at increasingly expensive and outlandish light fixtures with my partner, which is, I suppose, starting how I mean to go on in more ways than one.
I love fancy lighting. It always gets triaged off of our to do list because there are so many things we have to do to fix up our house first. But I have fantasies…
Happy New Year one and all, creatures great and small!
We are in Los Angeles and my husband and I were able to sneak away for a bit yesterday for perfume sniffing and a great Italian meal. I think I spent over an hour and a half at Scent Bar, and in the end made two purchases of perfumes that were entirely new to me. I bought something call Chronic from a house called 19-69: a mossy, heather-y scent to my nose that reputably has a cannabis note, but fear not. This scent is completely office friendly. The other was Bois Sacre by Arte Profumi, which is billed as a woody oriental, but to my nose has a lovely, slightly naughty amber note that make the scent really addictive.
Anyway, back to the inlaws and guests–but the perfume break was a blast.
Congrats on your purchases
Envious you got to visit Scent Bar!
I was afraid to try Bois Sacré due to the oud note. How strong is the oud? I bought Samharam, the incense one, and Sucre Noir, the vanilla.
Cazaubon, I kid you not, I thought of you when I was testing this one. I think you will love it. The Oud is not particularly strong. Ping me via email and I will send you a sample. xxoo
That’s such a fun store! My first thought was, “only an hour and a half?” Congrats on your new pretties. ?
Instead of a strongly-worded resolution, a gentle self-reminder to ponder perfume decisions this year. I’d been rather tempted when a local store had 10% off for Covey, of which I had finished a decant pretty quickly last summer. I already have a small bottle of Heeley’s Menthe Fraîche, so this morning put it into a sniff-off against the Covey. The latter lasts longer than the former, but both are pretty nice. Maybe I will make myself finish off the Heeley first…?
Rabbit, rabbit rabbit, and alittle smudge in the house today for starters.
SoTD: Ormonde Jayne Elixir. It suits the weather and the sweeping out of the old and reorganization of the new.
This version of Woman is more assertive, but still very close to the original. The addition of Oud is not overwhelming, I have never sniffed ‘Man’ so I have no reference. It is hemlocky.
Today is the first time that I remembered to rabbit. Since it is the first day of the new year and a new decade, it seems like a good start.
Wishing a happy, healthy and prosperous new year to the NST community!
I rang in the new year with Avignon. It felt really perfect today!
Happy New Year, Petunia. If you’re gonna remember to rabbit, Jan 1–of a new decade, no less—is a good time to do it! I completely forgot, which was extra dumb since I was awake until after 2am and could’ve done it then.??
Oh gosh, I never remember either. I am sort of amazed that I did. ?
Happy New Year, Petunia! I hope the rabbits bring you luck this year!
Happy New Year lillyjo! ?
Yay you for remembering the rabbits!
I surprised myself. It’s amazing how much brain function is restored with a few days off from work! ?
Happy New Year Petunia. I almost bought Avignon in Nov for a good deal but refrained so it is still high on my list for this year.
If it’s something you love, then you should buy it. I enjoyed it very much.
Happy New Year Aurora! ?
?Happy 2020, NST! Wishing you all a year of happiness and good health.?
I’m on my first wearing of Guerlain AA Flora Rosa, which was a blind buy. I had hoped to start off the year with an ‘auspicious’ scent like Amouage Gold but couldn’t manage anything remotely robust with the allergy crud I woke up with. The FR is as light and pretty as I’d hoped and therefore a happy alternative. So, here’s to a year of flexibility, and adaptation then, I guess???♀️?
Have a good one, peeps.
Nice to see your post! My allergies have been bothering me too. I took an allergy pill and an ibuprofen last night before bedtime so I would be able to sleep. I hope you feel better soon.
Happy New Year!
Good to see you Creosote! Happy New Year! And I hope your allergies give you a break soon.
I’m happy for the folks who remembered to “Rabbit” today. I totally spaced it. ⭐?? A very late night for me last night, even if it was a quiet one.
Resolution-wise: I’m thinking that I will try to use up or re-home more of my perfume samples this year. I’ll also go for a “No Buy” or a “Very Low Buy” for perfume. I know better than to make it for a whole year, so I will take it one season/quarter at a time. It’s also time to get back to exercising regularly.
SOTD = Aramis Calligraphy, from the sample stash and Lisa D. I smell like a luxe and somewhat boozy fruit compote. A warming scent for a chilly day. ??????
Happy New Year Jalapeno!
I gave up making resolutions. I just try to bump along doing my best. ?
I’ve started using resolutions more as a focus and less of a set in stone “must do”. That seems to work better for me.
Happy New Year! Good luck with your resolution!
Happy New Year to you lillyjo! And thanks!
I bet you smell great, I have the Calligraphy Rose which I greatly like.
? ? ?! Keeping cozy in Benjoin Boheme.
Oh, I think this is the one Petunia was asking about the other day. What do you think of it?
It’s a great cold weather fragrance. Resinous and powdery amber, strong at first but calms down in a few hours. Great longevity.
Oh that sounds nice. Not sure if you’ll see this but is it discontinued?
I think I can answer Petunia. It is a Paris boutique exclusive as far as I know.
It’s not discontinued, it’s a boutique and online exclusive.
SotD = Chanel No. 5 EdP
Feeling well-perfumed and ready for a great 2020. Hope everyone had a healthy and happy day.
My resolution: make more time for NST and wearing scent each day. I’ve spent this evening sorting and organzing bottles and samples (again!), this time I think I’ve got it.
Happy New Year Tiffanie, great resolution and well done for having organized your collection.
thank you, Aurora!
