Happy last Monday of 2019! It's also Bacon Day, the sixth day of Christmas (geese a-laying) and the fifth day of Kwanzaa. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm trying to wake up in Donna Karan Black Cashmere.
Reminder: on 1/3, wear a fragrance to match Classic Blue, Pantone's color of the year for 2020. ("A timeless and enduring blue hue, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. Imprinted in our psyches as a restful color, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser like clarity, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue re-centers our thoughts. A reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience.")
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

We are packing for the New Year’s Eve celebration at the seaside. We’ll be leaving tomorrow morning and we have a 5 hours drive ahead. Crossing my fingers that tre traffic won’t be terrible.
Today I’m wearing Mon Ame from 1907, a brand from Slovakia.
I have to plan my sotd for the next few days as we won’t be back until January 4th. I know I am taking Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense for NYE, what else should I take?
Happy New Year! Have a great trip! Take something that makes you feel happy for New Year’s day. Winter Palace?
Oh, that is a wonderful idea! That dragon from the bottle kinda makes you think of a Chinese new year parades, no?
Enjoy your trip and new years eve party!
The seaside is wonderful isnt it?
When I was a child I had always taken for granted that the sea has always been within a 30 minutes to 1 hour drive for me. We also went on holiday to the French or Danish coast most summers.
But when I grew up and learned more about the world and even met some folks who never even saw the sea when they were young….wow that makes me feel immensely greatful for having the sea and the beach so close nearby.
Thank you! I think it’s going to be quite magical and atmospheric on the New Year’s Eve tomorrow. There’s going to be a concert under the sky and we plan to join it. Should be fun!
Same for me, I grew up close to the ocean. My parents didn’t see the ocean (or a mountain) until they were 18-20 years old. They grew up on the prairies.
Enjoy the trip!
If you have a bottle of perfume about which you haven’t written yet on your blog, you could take it with you and do some photo session with it in unusual setting.
I don’t have any bottle of perfume about which I haven’t written yet but it’s a good idea to take a few more to do a photo session.
Well, after weeks and weeks of craving warm, spicy leather and amber scents, all of a sudden everything changed – yesterday was Chanel 19 EDT, and today it’s the EDP. Neither matches the Pantone shade, of course – have to give that some thought. Happy Last Monday everyone!
Funny how that happens sometimes. You just wake up one morning, and it’s “OK, done!”
Wearing deep purple with MPCPC from Goutal. My most gothic perfume. I need to get out my bottle of BC, haven’t worn it in a while.
You smell great!
Great match for these dark cold days.
I love that its getting less cloudy though. We had some amazing red/purple sunrises and sunsets lately!
I agree, the sunsets are spectacular at the moment!
I am in Sous le Vent by Guerlain..
Recently emailing with a fellow NSTer about animalic scents and Sous Le Vent on some days smells like an animal in heat.
I finished a book On Earth We are Briefly Gorgeous, I would give it one star at best. To me the author is trying too hard, too pretentious IMHO
We are taking the kids to see to their first movie today, Frozen 2 and I am wearing a fur trimmed cardigan and Sous Le Vent fits the bill, the little one are dressed up in their Elsa get up, even my son!
If you have a moment to send some positive driving vibes, my FIL is journeying down from Canada today..
Positive driving vibes sent! I see chai in your future.
Safe travels to your FIL. Enjoy the movie!
Have fun on your movie date
You smell lovely! Enjoy your day with the little ones
Safe travels for your FIL, I know there is a lot of ice. Scary.
Safe travels and clear roads for your FIL.
What fun, do come back and tell us if they loved it!
Safe Travels for your FIL and hoping the kids love the movie!
Granted, it’s early and I’ve only downed one cup of coffee, but I couldn’t figure out the picture!
My bathrobe smells delicious… a culmination of Cuir de Russie and Tigers nest?
Post shower I get to work from home today and tomorrow. Something easy and cozy post shower, maybe Ambre Nepal.
right there with you..I thought it was a single row of sink faucets.
That’s what I saw too.
Ambre del Nepal is a gorgeous scent. You smell wonderful!
So long as you knew it was classic blue, whatever it was
I thought it was the inside spine of some sort of clip binder. I would never have guessed. ?
Back after a vacation and then having my mom stay with us over Christmas. My mom is 78 and getting frail. I can see how her world is shrinking and it saddens and scares me. Perhaps because I see my future self in her? Perfume wise I’ve been uninspired. Did wear JLo Deseo today for its bright, optimistic pineapple note.
Sorry about your Mom..we all get there eventually.
I am sure you brighten her world with your presence…
Same with my mom, who is 79. I am scared for her and ultimately for myself.
I’m seeing that with my mom, too. She’s already forgotten so much.
Cancelled a doctor’s appointment that I didn’t want to go to today. Spent most of the morning in Tigress Musk but since I have taken a shower I am commando right now. I added 3 more candles to my collection. Couldn’t resist the sale at BBW. I think Jicky today.
Yay for cancelling things that aren’t any fun.
The Christmas tree came down this morning. I swear the week between Christmas and New Year is the longest. I’m temporarily wearing JHaG Not a Perfume. I thought it was ambroxan but it’s Cetalox. This is the smell I hate. The drydown of every new release. I could spray any perfume in Sephora right now and in five minutes it would smell like Not a Perfume. I don’t understand why this is a thing. I will switch to something else after my shower.
Ugh. This is a smell I hate too. Wish the trend would die!
I am hoping the fact that our tree shed a lot of needles means my husband will let me take it down earlier than usual. I generally want it gone at New Year or right after…he delays and delays.
You’ve been trying to ID that note you hate for a while, right, lillyjo?
Yes! Omg, I hate it with a passion. I’d rather smell a cat pee note!, LOL
I wish somebody would come and take down my tree.
Lillyjo, I just remember another jasmine perfume for you to try, if you haven’t already: Clinique My Happy Peace & Jasmine. I gave it a quick sniff around Thanksgiving.
* “remembered”, not “remember”.
I’m wearing French Lover and I’ve just brought my wife to the maternity because her water broke. Hopefully it will all be fine!
That is exciting news! I hope all goes well for everyone!!!
(Oh and you smell gorgeous)
Oh my goodness, good luck to you and your wife, and congratulations!
Wonderful news!!!! Everything will be fine and congrats in advance!!!
Hope so, thanks!
So exciting! Wishing the best to you and your family!
Wow, you smell great and best wishes to all involved!
Good luck wishes to you all!
Hope it all goes well for mother and child.
Best wishes and congratulations!
hurray! Congratulations to you and your wife.
Oh my, best wishes for momma and baby!
Exciting! I hope all goes smoothly!
Congrats and fingers crossed for an uneventful delivery!
A New Years Eve baby! Congrats.
A baby gives us all new hope for the future. Congratulations on this life-changing event!
Thank you all! Just heard that they are both fine! She has 3.3kg. I am sitting at home now with our 3 year old.
Hooray, I’m so glad!!
Congratulations to you both!
Bacon day!!! I need, have, must indulge in some!
Feeling better today, but very drained.
Wearing Jo Malone Orris & Sandalwood. A new for me scent on 2019 that I really adore!
I tried that JM once and it was a quite nice, concrete-cold orris. I was also told it was a last chance to buy it, because apparently they’re discontinuing it?
It is very nice indeed! Unfortunately, it was discontinued and not easy to find anymore.
You smell lovely. I’m so happy I bought Orris & Sandalwood before it was discontinued.
Thank you! A partial bottle is on its way to me thanks to a swap. So excited!!!
I’m dragging, too. I missed sniffing that particular Jo Malone, but maybe they might bring it back at a later date. Iris can be challenging for me.
I don’t really get much iris from it, but mostly violets. It has a powdery lipstick vibe on me. No sandalwood and it is pretty sweet and kind of woody. Comfy and uplifting.
Comfy and uplifting sounds perfect for today! ?
I’m in Caron Piu Bellodgia, from a sample, now drained. Starts out a pretty floral, with an even better spicy clove dry down. I think I’m a fan. ?
Gorgeous! I adore Piu Bellodgia
Yum! Fiery carnation goodness!
SotD is New York Intense
Yay I survived the christmas festivities. ? I hope you all had a lovely and peaceful time as well.
I am enjoying my staycation doing all kinds of fun and relaxing stuff
I try to sleep in (somewhat) almost everyday.
Husband and I are re-watching the Alien movies (yes all six of them) and spend a few evenings playing Age of empires 2 definitive edition.
I found great jeans with 30 percent off. Something that we’d call a regular model in the 90s (normal waist, slightly tapered leg), but nowadays its called ‘girlfriend’. And the colour is a dark black/blue, I love it!!!
Finding jeans is really a challenge nowadays. I am not a big fan of the skinny jeans (I am not 18 anymore), i hate those pre-destroyed models with holes, rips and tears, and I dont like flared jeans. But these 3 kinds seem to make up 90 percent of the collections right now. Even Levi’s store was no success. Also, I am quite short and i have no hips and I live in a land of giants. And I always have a thing for less popular colours (grey or a very dark blue) ? haha
…..Oh and to make the jeans shopping experience worse:
I just cannot pull off the high waist that most stores offer on 60 tot 70 percent of their collection.
It just looks ridiculous on me. ?
I hate jeans shopping too. And I’m with you on not liking the pre-destroyed or pre-strange-color-faded look either. And being a short person, high-waisted looks dreadful on me as well!
We are binging the new season of The Expanse
Yay, The Expanse!
It looks amazing right?
I love most characters and actors, but Chrisjen is something special haha.
Have you read the books?
Oh I adore Chrisjen! No, I haven’t read the books…
I havent read them either but apparently they are quite good as well.
I still have to finish two other books but I am really curious…
same is true for me, I’m only five feet tall though I come from a family of Dutch and Danish giants, LOL
Shopping for jeans makes me crazy too. When I find a pair that fit the way I like I usually buy two or even three at a time so that I don’t have to shop again for a long time.
Same for me, I am short and want a moderate waistline and straight leg jeans, when I find what I want I buy lots.
I am with you on the jeans. Glad you were successful! I’d buy three pairs.
It was last one in my size in this colour, but I already had this model in another colour (grey). ☺️
I just hope they dont discontinue it and i hope they will release a light grey or light blue one for this spring/summer.
I’m also on the short side. Finding jeans with an inseam that matches me can be challenging. I’m too tall for petite, but too short for most women’s jeans.
Sotd: Elie Saab’s Essence No. 1: Rose. I never imagined I’d appreciate such a rose-centered fragrance but this is beautifully done, clearly with excellent raw materials.
Hope everyone’s holidays have been good to them!
Hope your holiday was lovely too sayitisntso!
SotD: EldO Vierges et Toreros layered with Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée to make it slightly less “sexy goat.”
Snowing/freezing rain here where I am in Mtl, hoping Knives Out is as good as everyone says cuz I’m going to see it this afternoon with a friend.
I want to see that too, I hope it’s good.
hahahaha! Vanille Insensée is the perfect complement to many things, so it must be lovely with “sexy goat!”
Bad weather lately, glad I am spending the winter in San Diego instead of Montréal. Bon courage and stay warm!
Morning NST… I have been out of commission with a horrible cold since Xmas. It is not fair to be sick when you have time off of work!! Well I have this whole week off work too, hoping to eke out a few non-plague days later. So no SOTD unless you count cough drops.
I crunched my perfume numbers yesterday, since I can’t smell perfume right now but I can still think about it. I’m dubious about the quality of some of my record keeping, but still: my most worn scents were summery things, it seems I press ‘repeat’ more often in the summer: Atelier Cologne Clementine California is #1 (surprised me) tied with VCA California Reverie (not surprising); Carthusia Meditterraneo; Chanel Paris-Deauville; Olfactive Studio Still Life In Rio; AdP Fico di Amalfi; Atelier Cologne Pacific Lime; ELdO You or Someone Like You; Vilhelm Dear Polly. The only wintry scent that appears in the most-worn list is Armani Prive Bois d’Encens.
Most worn houses are Chanel; Atelier Cologne (thanks to the above re-wears); Guerlain; Tom Ford; VCA.
As far as this year’s resolutions go, I said I’d stick to 2 FBs a month so 24 total; instead I bought 31. Well a net of 31 anyway, since I did get rid of some along the way. Also said I’d pay for new purchases with sales of old stuff. Ha. Ha. Ha.
I think no resolutions for next year, other than doing more pruning of the scents I don’t wear. Also, No More Soap Or Shower Gel until those piles reduce!!
Get well soon, Pixel!
I had a cold as well, two weeks ago (for the 2nd time this fall/winter season, urgh)….the worst part lasted 4 to 5 days, but I kept on sniffing and coughing for another week. I hope i will be able to stay cold-free now!
hope you feel all better really quick! Isn’t Pacific Lime glorious? I love citrus top notes so much.
I feel like I should keep stats but part of me is scared to because then I would have to face how many scents went unworn all year due to the excessive size of my collection. My resolutions for last year are better left unsaid, but this year’s goal is a no-buy from February through October. A shopping pause so to speak.
Same for me on the shower gels!
Oh, and hope you feel better asap!
Lots of cold germs going around. I hope it passes soon!
I’m still teaching for lighter, summery fare.
Yuck on the cold! So many people are catching something right now. ?? Feel better soon.
It was 65F and raining here yesterday and today it’s 35 with a howling wind, brrr. I haven’t been able to decide on a scent but I’ll join Robin in Black Cashmere today, it smells so toasty. Time to make another pot of soup!
hey there I’m making soup today, too. Trying to decide between minestrone or split pea. Stay warm!
I was trying to decide between split pea and chicken & rice. I’m thinking split pea is the winner
I did split pea, too!
I’m commando still but am eating bacon right now! Thanks for the inspiration! I try to eat vegetarian most of the time but I do love bacon. You can buy the fully cooked bacon in stores now and I do that as a treat sometimes. It’s kind of expensive but so easy to just do two slices in the microwave for 20 seconds and voila–bacon! I recommend the Oscar-Mayer kind with maple–it’s thick-cut and nicely chewy. We have a beautiful sunny day today and I’ll have to get outside at some point. I’m trying to get some writing done for now. I’m also pondering something blue to wear for Friday–a blue
kitty hit the “return’ button just then!
a blue-evocative scent, that is.
I try to eat all veggie most days, but lately it’s hard for me to resist the bacon, especially the already-cooked kind I find at Trader Joe’s. Love it crumbled into a salad.
On Friday I’ll probably go with something in a blue bottle because I haven’t thought of anything the smells classic blue yet. Hoping inspiration will strike tho!
Bacon-adjacent with a pulled pork sandwich for lunch. ?
Greetings NSTers! We’re having a lazy Monday morning over here in AZ.
I’m wearing SL Vetiver Oriental and T-Rex is wearing her sockeye salmon coat and Eau de Kibble.
We had a nice 5 miler yesterday. Weather was GLORIOUS! Cool, clear, and crisp! Here’s a hidden gem we found:
Happy last Monday of 2019!
Love your hikes, Deva! Thank you for sharing.
Happy new year to you and T-Rex! You smell great.
Envying you both the weather and your hike!
SotD = Vol de Nuit EdT
whoa! I smell to high heaven. I dropped my bottle of VdN a while back. Now the sprayer is broken, but I’ve been able to get a few drops to dribble out of the top and all over my hands and arms, lol!
Going to spend time today trying to decant some VdN into an atomizer bottle. Then it’s time to sort bottles and samples into some sort of meaningful order. I need to make better use of what I have.
Reading lots of best of years lists this weekend and today. I see I’ve missed a lot! Hope everyone has had a lovely new year. My scent goal for 2020 is to wear scent every day and post here on NST each day too.
Scented hugs for everyone! mwah!
I had a broken sprayer yesterday too, on PdE Equistrius. Fortunately I have a handy husband who uncrimped the top so I could decant into an atomizer. Yay!
My goals are also to wear (lots of) perfume every day and post daily!
Did your husband use a special tool to uncrimp that bottle?
I’m so curious. I have a bottle with a wonky sprayer too.
Just a pair of very slim-tipped needle nose pliers.
un-crimp the top of the bottle? that’s genius!
Scent twins! We smell great, if I do say so!
Sorry you have a wonky sprayer; I hope you were able to rescue the rest.
Hi twin! agree, VdN smells great
Ambre de Merveilles for my first work day after jolidays. I slept badly and too short and needed comfort. Luckily i had a very lazy day at work, more surfing the net than real work.
This year I took a short holiday but I never minded working end of december.
Usually its not too busy and the mood in the offices is quiet and relaxed. At most jobs we always put the radio on for sing-along-songs, and we took our sweet time for lunch and coffee breaks. But I also experienced offices closing between xmas and new years day. Then you had to work from home…
To match my Muddled Plum shower gel (which is absolutely gorgeous), I’m wearing Serge Lutens Bois et Fruits. I think there’s only one or two wearings left in my decant, and I’ll be sad when it’s gone. It has aged down to be very oily when sprayed on skin, but it still smells as good as ever.
Has anyone tried Molton Brown candles? Not like I need any more candles to lust after, but I’m curious about Muddled Plum and Bizarre Brandy because those candles are part of the 30% off sale they’ve got going on right now.
I haven’t tried the candle, but I totally agree that Muddled Plum is a gorgeous shower gel. So imagine it’s a good candle.
I have just finished the Muddled Plum shower gel I bought last December. I liked it but not enough to repurchase.
I have not tried their candles but I am one week into using the Bizzare Brandy shower gel and I like it very much. It smells like boozy vanilla with some warm spices on top. It lathers well and feels velvety on the skin (as all MB shower gels do when they are fresh). I recommend ?
Today I had to say goodbye to my beloved Schnooky, my cat. We had been together for fifteen years, she had kidney failure and deteriorated very quickly.
I had chosen Hiris this morning and it did suit my mood and was comforting.
Oh no! I am so sorry Aurora. She is in a beautiful place now free of suffering. Sending comforting hugs.
Thank you so much, yes, the end was painless.
I’m so sorry to read this. Sending hugs.
Hugs so appreciated, thank you apsara.
I’m so sorry, but how wonderful you had her first so long. May all the memories comfort you.
Yes, Lizzie, thank you, I think of the good times together.
I am so sorry for your loss. Sending hugs and wishing you strength!
Thank you Jiji, it is comforting to share with you all.
I am sorry, that is a sad day
Thank you Tannina, it all happened so quickly.
Oh, so sorry Aurora. 15 years is a good, long time, but sometimes not long enough. Wishing you much comfort in your memories of Schnooky.
Thank you Elisa, she really was my ideal cat.
I’m so sorry for your loss. May the beautiful memories comfort you.
Thank you Cazaubon, it was a difficult day, focusing on good memories help indeed.
I’m so sorry, Aurora. My thoughts are with you.
Thank you so much foxbins.
Oh Aurora, I am so sorry to hear that you said “Goodbye” to your beloved kitty today. Hugs, and my sympathies.
Thank you Jalapeno, it was a shock, it evolved very quickly.
I’m not sure which is worse, losing a pet suddenly, or watching them waste away. Different kinds of heartache. ?
Aw, rest in peace Schnooky.
Thank you Robin, she did look very peaceful with her beautiful golden eyes open.
Please accept my deep sympathy. It’s just the saddest thing to lose our beloved companions.
Thank you Calypso. I wasn’t quite ready for it, it was so sudden.
Poor Schnooky. So sorry for your loss Aurora. Sending hugs your way.
Thank you Petunia, to me, she was so special.
I’m so sorry, Aurora. Sending you ((hugs)).
Thank you so much, Gail, hugs received with thanks.
Aurora, I’m so very sorry for your loss. I know how heartbreaking it is. Sending you comfort and hugs. ?
Thank you so much Lillyjo for your kind words. It was difficult and I will miss her.
A cold gray day, wearing Guérlain Gourmand Coquin as a warm fuzzy comfort scent. Getting ready to give the dog a bath.
Cold gray here too, and rainy again. Blech.
Glad you have a nice comfort scent to wear. You’ve have had some yucky weather lately; hope it warms up there soon!☀⛱
I’m in a bit of a perfume slump these days. Nothing really jumps out for me. Le Cri has become an easy go-to and is my SOTD. It’s on the full bottle short list, but not until I finish my decant (my sort of resolution re perfume buying).
Oh I need to wear Le Cri again, soon.
I remember it as a versatile and easy-but-elegant fragrance. I can see how this can be the perfect allrounder in a collection
Wear it! It does manage to be all of that. It’s kind of genius, actually. And I didn’t think much of it when I 1st sampled it.
Oh, I hope that slump goes away soon… that “Meh” feeling is a downer!
Thanks Jalapeno! I’m enjoying my SOTD so there’s hope ?
Does Le Cri remind you at all of BV? I need to do a side by side.
Hmm, no, I never connected it with BV, smell-wise. The only perfumes I can think of that it reminds me of are Le Labo Ambrette and Chanel 18. But only certain aspects.
“Trying to wake up” twins with Robin. I did not feel rested when I woke up this morning. And the gloomy, grey, soggy weather didn’t help things at all. Squishy. ☔??
SOTD = Soivohle Purple Love Smoke, from the sample stash. It’s definitely purple-smelling to me even without the name. I’ll have to ponder what would match that Pantone color; it’s a tough one. I can’t think of anything offhand that I would call deep blue.
The grey, soggies=sleepy weather.
I love the name of that perfume. I remember someone suggested I might like it because of another perfume I was liking at the time called Smoke & Violets.
Wasn’t that only last year? ?
Ha! Probably ?
Purple Love Smoke starts off with a puff of smoke and incense that quickly dissipates and leaves behind violets, orris root, and a bit of jasmine. I think it is a little head-shop-ish, in the best possible way.
Thanks for the description! It does sound kinda similar.
The only thing I can think of is an aquatic scent. Other than that, I have no idea. I have purple perfumes but not blue.
Maybe that Joe Malone Cornflower blah, blah perfume would work?
I “see” aquatic perfumes as a lighter shade of blue. The saturated hue is what’s throwing me off. Maybe I should think of smells associated with the night?
SOTD was Avignon for back to work Monday. I really enjoyed it today.
Today I’m wearing the December scent trunk scent by Dawn Spencer Hurwitz. Rose and coriander. It’s quite leathery. Very recognizable as DSH.
Hi all! Checking in from Pebble Beach after a few days in Pasa Robles, California. I am wearing Jo Malone Poppy & Barley, and relaxing before dinner.
Jealous!!! I should be in Pebble Beach…
ooh, i often reach for DK Black Cashmere – i had to buy a backup bottle to my oval stone original, that and Stash by SJP are two of my go-tos for cozy winter perfumes!
I should reach for it more often — I forget to wear it!
