Monday scent of the day 12/30

Posted by Robin on 30 December 2019 186 Comments

Happy last Monday of 2019! It's also Bacon Day, the sixth day of Christmas (geese a-laying) and the fifth day of Kwanzaa. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm trying to wake up in Donna Karan Black Cashmere.

Reminder: on 1/3, wear a fragrance to match Classic Blue, Pantone's color of the year for 2020. ("A timeless and enduring blue hue, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. Imprinted in our psyches as a restful color, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser like clarity, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue re-centers our thoughts. A reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience.")

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello world!
We are packing for the New Year’s Eve celebration at the seaside. We’ll be leaving tomorrow morning and we have a 5 hours drive ahead. Crossing my fingers that tre traffic won’t be terrible.

Today I’m wearing Mon Ame from 1907, a brand from Slovakia.

I have to plan my sotd for the next few days as we won’t be back until January 4th. I know I am taking Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense for NYE, what else should I take?

Enjoy your trip and new years eve party!

The seaside is wonderful isnt it?

When I was a child I had always taken for granted that the sea has always been within a 30 minutes to 1 hour drive for me. We also went on holiday to the French or Danish coast most summers.

But when I grew up and learned more about the world and even met some folks who never even saw the sea when they were young….wow that makes me feel immensely greatful for having the sea and the beach so close nearby.

Thank you! I think it’s going to be quite magical and atmospheric on the New Year’s Eve tomorrow. There’s going to be a concert under the sky and we plan to join it. Should be fun!

Same for me, I grew up close to the ocean. My parents didn’t see the ocean (or a mountain) until they were 18-20 years old. They grew up on the prairies.

If you have a bottle of perfume about which you haven’t written yet on your blog, you could take it with you and do some photo session with it in unusual setting.

Well, after weeks and weeks of craving warm, spicy leather and amber scents, all of a sudden everything changed – yesterday was Chanel 19 EDT, and today it’s the EDP. Neither matches the Pantone shade, of course – have to give that some thought. Happy Last Monday everyone!

I am in Sous le Vent by Guerlain..
Recently emailing with a fellow NSTer about animalic scents and Sous Le Vent on some days smells like an animal in heat.

I finished a book On Earth We are Briefly Gorgeous, I would give it one star at best. To me the author is trying too hard, too pretentious IMHO

We are taking the kids to see to their first movie today, Frozen 2 and I am wearing a fur trimmed cardigan and Sous Le Vent fits the bill, the little one are dressed up in their Elsa get up, even my son!

If you have a moment to send some positive driving vibes, my FIL is journeying down from Canada today..

    Hi NST
Back after a vacation and then having my mom stay with us over Christmas. My mom is 78 and getting frail. I can see how her world is shrinking and it saddens and scares me. Perhaps because I see my future self in her? Perfume wise I’ve been uninspired. Did wear JLo Deseo today for its bright, optimistic pineapple note.

Cancelled a doctor’s appointment that I didn’t want to go to today. Spent most of the morning in Tigress Musk but since I have taken a shower I am commando right now. I added 3 more candles to my collection. Couldn’t resist the sale at BBW. I think Jicky today.

The Christmas tree came down this morning. I swear the week between Christmas and New Year is the longest. I’m temporarily wearing JHaG Not a Perfume. I thought it was ambroxan but it’s Cetalox. This is the smell I hate. The drydown of every new release. I could spray any perfume in Sephora right now and in five minutes it would smell like Not a Perfume. I don’t understand why this is a thing. I will switch to something else after my shower.

    Hi everyone!

    SotD is New York Intense

Yay I survived the christmas festivities. ? I hope you all had a lovely and peaceful time as well.

I am enjoying my staycation doing all kinds of fun and relaxing stuff
I try to sleep in (somewhat) almost everyday.
Husband and I are re-watching the Alien movies (yes all six of them) and spend a few evenings playing Age of empires 2 definitive edition.

I found great jeans with 30 percent off. Something that we’d call a regular model in the 90s (normal waist, slightly tapered leg), but nowadays its called ‘girlfriend’. And the colour is a dark black/blue, I love it!!!

    (Warning…rant)
Finding jeans is really a challenge nowadays. I am not a big fan of the skinny jeans (I am not 18 anymore), i hate those pre-destroyed models with holes, rips and tears, and I dont like flared jeans. But these 3 kinds seem to make up 90 percent of the collections right now. Even Levi’s store was no success. Also, I am quite short and i have no hips and I live in a land of giants. And I always have a thing for less popular colours (grey or a very dark blue) ? haha

…..Oh and to make the jeans shopping experience worse:
I just cannot pull off the high waist that most stores offer on 60 tot 70 percent of their collection.
It just looks ridiculous on me. ?

I hate jeans shopping too. And I’m with you on not liking the pre-destroyed or pre-strange-color-faded look either. And being a short person, high-waisted looks dreadful on me as well!

same is true for me, I’m only five feet tall though I come from a family of Dutch and Danish giants, LOL :D

Shopping for jeans makes me crazy too. When I find a pair that fit the way I like I usually buy two or even three at a time so that I don’t have to shop again for a long time.

I’m also on the short side. Finding jeans with an inseam that matches me can be challenging. I’m too tall for petite, but too short for most women’s jeans.

Sotd: Elie Saab’s Essence No. 1: Rose. I never imagined I’d appreciate such a rose-centered fragrance but this is beautifully done, clearly with excellent raw materials.

SotD: EldO Vierges et Toreros layered with Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée to make it slightly less “sexy goat.”

Snowing/freezing rain here where I am in Mtl, hoping Knives Out is as good as everyone says cuz I’m going to see it this afternoon with a friend.

Morning NST… I have been out of commission with a horrible cold since Xmas. It is not fair to be sick when you have time off of work!! Well I have this whole week off work too, hoping to eke out a few non-plague days later. So no SOTD unless you count cough drops.

I crunched my perfume numbers yesterday, since I can’t smell perfume right now but I can still think about it. I’m dubious about the quality of some of my record keeping, but still: my most worn scents were summery things, it seems I press ‘repeat’ more often in the summer: Atelier Cologne Clementine California is #1 (surprised me) tied with VCA California Reverie (not surprising); Carthusia Meditterraneo; Chanel Paris-Deauville; Olfactive Studio Still Life In Rio; AdP Fico di Amalfi; Atelier Cologne Pacific Lime; ELdO You or Someone Like You; Vilhelm Dear Polly. The only wintry scent that appears in the most-worn list is Armani Prive Bois d’Encens.

Most worn houses are Chanel; Atelier Cologne (thanks to the above re-wears); Guerlain; Tom Ford; VCA.

As far as this year’s resolutions go, I said I’d stick to 2 FBs a month so 24 total; instead I bought 31. Well a net of 31 anyway, since I did get rid of some along the way. Also said I’d pay for new purchases with sales of old stuff. Ha. Ha. Ha.

I think no resolutions for next year, other than doing more pruning of the scents I don’t wear. Also, No More Soap Or Shower Gel until those piles reduce!!

      Get well soon, Pixel!

I had a cold as well, two weeks ago (for the 2nd time this fall/winter season, urgh)….the worst part lasted 4 to 5 days, but I kept on sniffing and coughing for another week. I hope i will be able to stay cold-free now!

I feel like I should keep stats but part of me is scared to because then I would have to face how many scents went unworn all year due to the excessive size of my collection. My resolutions for last year are better left unsaid, but this year’s goal is a no-buy from February through October. A shopping pause so to speak.

Same for me on the shower gels!

I’m commando still but am eating bacon right now! Thanks for the inspiration! I try to eat vegetarian most of the time but I do love bacon. You can buy the fully cooked bacon in stores now and I do that as a treat sometimes. It’s kind of expensive but so easy to just do two slices in the microwave for 20 seconds and voila–bacon! I recommend the Oscar-Mayer kind with maple–it’s thick-cut and nicely chewy. We have a beautiful sunny day today and I’ll have to get outside at some point. I’m trying to get some writing done for now. I’m also pondering something blue to wear for Friday–a blue

I try to eat all veggie most days, but lately it’s hard for me to resist the bacon, especially the already-cooked kind I find at Trader Joe’s. Love it crumbled into a salad.

On Friday I’ll probably go with something in a blue bottle because I haven’t thought of anything the smells classic blue yet. Hoping inspiration will strike tho! :D

SotD = Vol de Nuit EdT

whoa! I smell to high heaven. I dropped my bottle of VdN a while back. Now the sprayer is broken, but I’ve been able to get a few drops to dribble out of the top and all over my hands and arms, lol! :D

Going to spend time today trying to decant some VdN into an atomizer bottle. Then it’s time to sort bottles and samples into some sort of meaningful order. I need to make better use of what I have.

Reading lots of best of years lists this weekend and today. I see I’ve missed a lot! Hope everyone has had a lovely new year. My scent goal for 2020 is to wear scent every day and post here on NST each day too.

    Scented hugs for everyone! mwah!

This year I took a short holiday but I never minded working end of december.

Usually its not too busy and the mood in the offices is quiet and relaxed. At most jobs we always put the radio on for sing-along-songs, and we took our sweet time for lunch and coffee breaks. But I also experienced offices closing between xmas and new years day. Then you had to work from home…

To match my Muddled Plum shower gel (which is absolutely gorgeous), I’m wearing Serge Lutens Bois et Fruits. I think there’s only one or two wearings left in my decant, and I’ll be sad when it’s gone. It has aged down to be very oily when sprayed on skin, but it still smells as good as ever.

Has anyone tried Molton Brown candles? Not like I need any more candles to lust after, but I’m curious about Muddled Plum and Bizarre Brandy because those candles are part of the 30% off sale they’ve got going on right now.

I have just finished the Muddled Plum shower gel I bought last December. I liked it but not enough to repurchase.
I have not tried their candles but I am one week into using the Bizzare Brandy shower gel and I like it very much. It smells like boozy vanilla with some warm spices on top. It lathers well and feels velvety on the skin (as all MB shower gels do when they are fresh). I recommend ?

“Trying to wake up” twins with Robin. I did not feel rested when I woke up this morning. And the gloomy, grey, soggy weather didn’t help things at all. Squishy. ☔??

SOTD = Soivohle Purple Love Smoke, from the sample stash. It’s definitely purple-smelling to me even without the name. I’ll have to ponder what would match that Pantone color; it’s a tough one. I can’t think of anything offhand that I would call deep blue.

Purple Love Smoke starts off with a puff of smoke and incense that quickly dissipates and leaves behind violets, orris root, and a bit of jasmine. I think it is a little head-shop-ish, in the best possible way.

I “see” aquatic perfumes as a lighter shade of blue. The saturated hue is what’s throwing me off. Maybe I should think of smells associated with the night?

Today I’m wearing the December scent trunk scent by Dawn Spencer Hurwitz. Rose and coriander. It’s quite leathery. Very recognizable as DSH.

Hi all! Checking in from Pebble Beach after a few days in Pasa Robles, California. I am wearing Jo Malone Poppy & Barley, and relaxing before dinner.

ooh, i often reach for DK Black Cashmere – i had to buy a backup bottle to my oval stone original, that and Stash by SJP are two of my go-tos for cozy winter perfumes!

I should reach for it more often — I forget to wear it!
