Tuesday scent of the day 12/17

Posted by Robin on 17 December 2019 187 Comments

Happy (teapot) Tuesday! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm copying SheriG's Monday choice in Bruno Fazzolari Feu Secret. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Tsarevna, from a very old tin that I just can't seem to use up.

Reminder: 12/20 will be De-stress Friday (a repeat from 2014)...as we approach the holidays, wear something that keeps you tranquil and relaxed.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is the Cabas teapot from Bernardaud, about $438. "Bernardaud is partnering with another craft native to Limousin, artisan leatherwork, to create this elegant, contemporary tea pot. It has turned to J.M Weston to make the leather handle."

    Cute tea pot Robin..

I am drinking my Jane Austen tea from S&V, a nice black tea with a minty twist.

    Its another awful day here..

Inspired to wear more of my Chanels I asked over the weekend which was everyone’s favorite and a lot gave Coco as the answer so that is my SOTD. I am in all 3 forms, the EdT, EdP and a drop of the parfum.

Isn’t this depressing weather? Your tea sounds lovely, though, and you’re really fortified with a Coco shield!

Riviera is quickly becoming a favorite Chanel of mine. It’s very light, more of a skin scent, but great for days you want a little scent but not have to think about it.

Same here! And I just got another decant. I also thought it was a light skin scent, but I wore it the other day before going out, and my husband’s comment: “you have a lot of sillage, missy” ?

Love that teapot. I’m wearing Mon Guerlain, which I adore.

Drinking Charlotte au Chocolat by DF.
Do you like Kusmi Robin? I love the design of their tins and the look of the shops, but the actual teas not so much. Some of the Russian blends are nice enough, but not quite nice enough to justify a purchase.

I feel the same way about Kusmi tea..I have tried some (at friends) but was never moved to by a tin.
Speaking of tea..Austenfan I know you love MF. My neighbor is waiting for a list of tea that she can buy me from MF when she goes to Paris this week. I am open to your suggestions.

        If you like Earl Greys:
Earl Grey Provence ( an EG with lavender)
Earl Grey d’Or (a good quality Assam with a nice bergamot)
In the sweet category I love Wedding Impérial, Black Orchid, Thé de Lune, Phénix
        Spicy: Noël, Chandernagor
        Fruity: Marco Polo, Montagne d’Or
Jasmin: Jasmin Précieux (a jasmin oolong) and Brume de Jasmin (a jasmin white tea)
In the flavoured green tea category I love: Bel Ami, Festin d’Or, Lune Rouge, Vert Provence, Thé des Impressionnistes and probably a few more.

I like a few. They do a really good spearmint green tea, although generally speaking I can mix an equally good one much cheaper so it is not a staple.

The buffalo grass black tea (Zoubrovka) really grew on me — did not like it at first, in fact IIRC I sent it to Kevin and he didn’t like it and sent it back. If I do another Kusmi order, I’ll buy that one again.

I like a cup of the Violette once in a while — I probably go though a small tin every 2 years or something.

I like a pinch of Anastasia mixed into a regular Earl Grey…adds brightness, but on its own it’s too soapy for me.

The Tsarevna, no, I have probably had this tin 5 years or more? I should have given it away. Supposedly they have reformulated the tea this year but I doubt I will take a chance. But generally speaking I do not like sweet flavored black teas.

Their chai is unusual, with lots of bay, but it is not my favorite chai, just nice for a change.

So, overall, it is not my favorite place to buy tea. Most of my tea comes from Upton, with a few from Harney, Mariage Freres, Palais des Thes, Tea Trekker, Ten Ren.

Can I throw in another tea recommendation?
Smith’s Tea, from Portland. They do loose and bags, but I’ve only done bags (I know loose tea is better in so many ways – but I’m just too lazy!!).
I found out about them because the hotel I stayed in in Portland had their tea – and now I’m a loyal customer!

I’m testing Moon Bloom. It’s lovely, but not a must-have because the opening reminds me of Fracas and the drydown reminds me of Terracotta and I like both of those better.

I’m in B683 today, while mourning a broken decant. I was unpacking my gym bag this morning and bobbled my decant of MMK CPLS, and it shattered on the granite countertop. When will I remember that I have butterfingers in the morning?!?
Ah well, I have the best smelling kitchen trash can in the neighborhood. ?

RIP CPLS ? I’ve had that happen a few times as my bedroom is basement level and has ceramic tile floors. The worst was losing a decant I was getting ready for a swap (Alahiiiiine!) ? Fortunately, the swapee was a very understanding NSTer ?
I hope you can get a new one if you loved it!

Gah, ceramic tile! No forgiveness there, sadly. I’ve dropped 1ml glass vials on our tile floor and they’ve survived. I guess the lighter weight saved them. There’s always that gasp of breath when you realize it’s *falling*.

Adorable tea pot! I just put on the water for a cup myself.

    SOTD: Winter Palace

This scent is exquisite, especially the opening which is a burst of citrus and tea. It’s a shame it’s so pricey but I will say it’s got great longevity, easy to wear (I can see it being a year round scent) and just a delight to wear. It reminds me of Tea for Two but only just slightly.

Gris Clair for another grey day with cold rain.
I was successful in at least getting my Kris Kingle gifts yesterday: a metal, enameled soap dish shaped like a footed bathtub with a bar of rosemary-mint goat’s milk soap, Swedish dish towels which look like dehydrated sheets of something that absorb water, along with a snarky button. And the David Bowie ornament as a host gift. It is pretty creepy looking, but in the best, kitschiest way IMO, lol:

Hermes Poivre Samarcande for me, I find it smooth and relaxing, it’s kind of my “incense” scent.

I find Tuesdays to be the hardest day of the workweek. I can get myself geared up for Monday, but Tuesday always has lots of meetings and the work week still stretches ahead. Wednesdays I generally work from home which is lovely and then Thursday and Friday are a little more low key at work and I’m able to accomplish at least a few things.

Last night wasn’t a great night. My parents have a Fire Stick on their TV and I have one on mine. I was watching something on mine but my mom hollered up and said she wanted to watch the Marvelous Mrs Maisle. Then I went to Netflix to watch something and got a text from my aunt to get off Netflix because she wanted to watch something. I don’t watch a lot of TV. I think it’s time to get my own Netflix account then I don’t have to deal with this stuff. I was working on unclogging a wonky Epic spray bottle and accidentally sprayed myself in the eyes. I was crying and for a few hours, everything was pretty blurry. Water and eyedrops helped with the pain and some of the blurriness. I am getting in the shower to wash off the Epic and go with either SDV, Havana Vanille or Vanilla Flash today.

Ouch in spraying yourself in the eyes! I don’t have Netflix and probably never will since I’ve barely taken advantage of the nice offerings on Amazon Prime, let alone what I have on cable.

    SOTD = L’AP Seville a l’Aube

Perfect antidote to this cold gray wet day that a whole bunch of us have right now.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B6Lo_DvhvYr/?igshid=1lw93frqztgjt

I decided to just have lunch at Pret (a half sandwich and half a cup of chicken noodle soup). Two guys sitting next to me were discussing their work life. One was complaining about his boss (what’s new). (Honestly, Based in the examples he gave, I think his fire had died down and he has not been hustling and it shows.). Then he started to talk about compensation and bonus. “I negotiated for a higher base salary.” ???. “When I used to be in investment banking, the bonus as a % of salary used to be a lot higher.” wah wah. No sh-t Sherlock. Did you even consider the total $s instead of whining about %s? You now have a much higher salary (thanks to your great negotiation skills) so unless you brought in the $$s in a huge way and your company is making a lot of money and there are no other bright stars in your group, don’t except that % to keep getting higher.

Okay, I am seriously procrastinating… totally off topic opposite of rant: I have just had two amazing customer service experiences… something must be in the air. Ordered a really expensive Patagonia nano puffer hoodie thing in bright orange for my son who is challenged crossing streets–it was on sale, but still really pricey. The package seems to be stuck in the NC doldrums and hasn’t left the PO for over week (sent from VA to CA). I emailed the company last night about it. By this morning they had sent another, expedited shipping, one that is not on sale, no questions asked. The second experience was with a gourmet charcuterie company. I called to find out if I could add $30 of something to an order I made a while ago, due to be delivered next week at my FIL’s. There was no way to bill me for the item so the company just added it gratis. Hmmmm…

I really have to face this mess I am writing, but maybe first I should go buy a lottery ticket… or at least shop for perfume online…

Something must be in the air! I had similar experiences with skincare products, one was a product that didn’t work but I wanted to return, the other was a mis-shipped product (I didn’t receive the product I originally ordered).
In both cases, they let me keep the items, free of charge and shipped replacement products.
        I think I’ll purchase a lottery ticket tonight…

We have a cold (for us) but gloriously clear and sunny day today here. I wish I could send some sunshine out to all of you! Yesterday we had the dismal weather, though it was freaky because it started out warm (84 degrees!) and went down to the 40’s by about 7 p.m. with a lot of wind and some rain. I kind of enjoy having a bit of chilly weather around Christmas.

So, I called yesterday for an appointment with an audiologist. They had a cancellation for this morning and I went in and got tested and–ta ta–I now have hearing aids! I have had hearing lost for a long time and really should have done this sooner. It’s going to take some adjustment still but they are quite comfortable and really don’t show (that is, my hair covers them up). I had a bit of insurance coverage and they have a payment credit plan that I took. After too many years in the classroom of having to ask (women) students (especially) to speak up, I feel sorry for not acting before now. I was prompted into this by reading up on the links research have established between hearing loss and dementia or cognitive decline. That scared me into it. So, if you’re thinking about this, I’d like to encourage you to pursue your options!
PS: Here’s an article link: https://www.aarp.org/health/brain-health/info-07-2013/hearing-loss-linked-to-dementia.html
PPS: SOTD is Indult Tihota. Tropical wonders for a chilly morning.

Hi all, my SOTD is Henry Jacques Femme parfum. I’ve been under the weather of late, this oakmoss, carnation, iris, geranium, and patchouli bomb is providing just the comfort I require.
I was doing so well with my no-buy until I discovered a bottle for sale and POOF! Money gone.

It looks like I will have sins to confess to Donatella this year.

My boss gave me a wonderful assortment of nuts, dried fruits and teas as a Holiday gift, so my cup I’m sipping this morning is Gunpowder Green Tea – smoky and very smooth.

I do. At first I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t a huge incense beast on me. But this is a perfume oil, and I suspect it has a large percentage of natural scent components. So it wears close and quiet on me. And for some days, that’s exactly what I need.

Kelly Calèche parfum today. And just now a spritz of Bizarre Brandy (thanks hajusuuri!) to warm me up even more.

Checking in late today – spent most of the day in the kitchen, baking. I’m making a Hummingbird Cake. Both it and I – because I’m wearing Palo Santo – smell marvelous.

Almost finished the decant of Bois d’Argent which has worked well both for office and evening.

Well, at least I’m commenting before midnight. lol

Used pumpkin pie spice sugar scrub in the bath again. Allergy-prone person that I am, I just used that on my arms and legs, and used my regular soap elsewhere. The crooks of my elbows were itchy for a bit, but that seems to be fading.

After my bath, I tried Demeter Fresh Ginger to see if that was soothing, as I like the scent and taste of ginger. I did a few sprays on my forearms, and it seemed quite a realistic scent to me. The scent of the spice is crisp, and it’s got that funky quality that ginger has. It’s fading some an hour or two later, but that’s just as well.

I had a yen for Shangri-la from Hiram Green so that was my SOTD. It became almost undetectable by 6pm, so I added some labdanum oil, a 10% dilution. Now I smell like a root beer cookie.

Late to the party as usual. Just can’t get used to this Pacific time zone thing.

Shalimar edp today, Eau D’Epices yesterday. Both cozy. I may do Shalimar again tomorrow, maybe the edt or extrait. It does comfort me- in fact, I spritz before bed a lot of times.

Last call! I wore Heeley Cardinal today. Will top off with some palo santo oil before bed.

Do you recommend a palo santo oil blend? Thank you!

I tried to make my own, it was a disaster, so I use the body oil version of Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s Be the Shaman.
