Wednesday scent of the day 11/13

Posted by Robin on 13 November 2019 238 Comments

Hump Day and World Kindness Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Boy Chanel. I'd forgotten how good it was, although it's still not as good as Allure Homme Édition Blanche.

Reminder: on 11/15, wear a fragrance by Chanel, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2014.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the image above is not for the Boy Chanel fragrance, but for the Boy de Chanel makeup line.

YUM. Another of my many regrets. (It is good to have regrets, though, and in that sense I regret nothing. Ha.)

Thank you so much for offering, that is really kind, but I am really really trying not to let myself accept any more decants!

I have too much perfume, and would like to have less, and just accept that I can’t keep some of every perfume on earth I like — that is kind of related to my saying “it is good to have regrets”.

In Chanel Coco EdP. I keep forgetting how beautiful it is.

I finally sampled AS Sunday last night. Very unusual and interesting scent. I could not smell the matcha tea, but the rice note was pretty strong on me. Nice and cozy. I need to try it again in the coming days. I might consider a decant in the future.

I totally agree! Tried it several times over several years and it never worked for me.

A SA gave me a sample of it recently with a sparkle in her eye, like she’d given me liquid gold. I smiled and thanked her for her kindness. Will pass it on to someone who enjoys it! ?

I agree! Coco Mademoiselle is a scrubber on me. I just can’t tolerate it. I still have some samples, just in case, but I am sure I am completely done with it!

My daughter’s signature is Coco Mad, it smells great on her. I admit that I like the Intense version of Coco Mademoiselle but then again, the original Coco was my signature for years and I get some similarities.

I sprayed some Coco EdT at Ulta last weekend and it smelled glorious all afternoon. Sooooo good. My arm had glitter on that spot though??? Does Chanel add body shimmer to their perfumes for Christmas or what not???

I know there’s a No 5 body oil with shimmer, but not sure about Coco. Could you have had glitter migration from eyeshadow swatches? Ask me how I know to suggest this. ?

I’m so jealous that you have an Ulta that carries Chanel! The closest one to me is a considerable drive. Does Ulta carry Chanel body products too or just the perfumes?

Thanks. I knew someone would understand. It went okay. We had to schedule a follow-up meeting as the psychologist had not submitted her report and was a no show, apparently due to the fact that she had felt ill and took herself to ER. I sound a bit cold, but there you have it. Also, apparently, her report was to be a summary of past reports and she had done not a single evaluation–this for my son’s triennial. Since she did not deign to pass it along, it is hard to make heads or tails of what she was thinking. We will press for evaluations. Sigh!

          Thanks for the virtual. :-)

1932 a few drops, and I don’t know why I picked this. It is my least favorite Chanel.

one of those days, that I can’t do anything right even with picking my SOTD.

and the headache associated with getting an almost 5 year old and a 3 year old in winter jackets, hats, and mittens.

My FIL chai has never been so comforting on a day like today..or more needed!

I had trouble with my teenagers this morning! My son went to school in a windbreaker and SHORTS. He has always hated pants and only wears them if there is snow or ice on the ground (my rule, not his). I reckon if he gets cold enough, he’s old enough to put on pants without nagging from me…. :)

Seriously, I hid my sons shorts. He hates pants. Granted he is 3 so its hard to negotiate or reason. When I hid them he came out in his bathing suit shorts. I want to hid those too, but Mr L takes them to an indoor pool some days so we can’t put those away just yet. I can’t win. But you are right, some battles you just can’t..
        Good Grief!

Oy! I’m sure you got that sorted out!

We’re having potluck lunch next week at my old work location, as good an excuse as any to go visit. I (yes) sent an email to organize the team and suggest contributing towards some trays of food and I asked for volunteers. Some opted out for legitimate reasons. One particular one struck me as so not legit: I have a 5-month old baby. ?????‍♀️. She returned to work 2 weeks ago, the volunteering is to be the central point for contributions (from 12 people) and order the food from the restaurant next door. If she cannot handle this because of a 5-month old (and her parents are staying with them taking care of the baby), she should just not even bother returning to work. She is NOT busy and I don’t really know how her manager justifies her position. Off my soapbox.

If I can get on my soap box

I am still waiting to receive my large sample of Vetiver Tonka. This morning our package room was closed, so I gave it a few hours and went around 11, still closed. Finally I went a moment ago and a shy guy said to me, I am the only one here, no one showed up this morning and I just opened at noon. With one guy it will take him hours to go through USPS to find my package.

I was thinking, when 1932 fades I can use spray some VT..but no..the universe has other plans for me today, its called patience all around!

    Good morning and BRRRRRRRRR…….

Wearing Britney Spears Circus Fantasy this morning, because the morning was a CIRCUS getting 2 teenagers rousted outta bed and out the door. My FANTASY is a peaceful organized morning where everyone is friendly and takes ownership of their morning routine…. HA HA HA #Someday

Anyhoo, Circus Fantasy is better in the spring and summer and is not really doing much for me at the moment. Tonight I’ll switch over to something warm and rich and substantial….. :)

I’m trying to remember if my mom ever rousted us out of bed. Of course, we lived in CA, and it was a short walk to HS. So, she really didn’t need to be involved. Knowing my mom, I’m not sure she’d have made it more peaceful….

Woo hoo! My Sonoma Scent Studio package arrived last night, so I’m in Winter Woods on this cold, cold day. It was a blind buy. I’m getting both pine and fireplace. Works for me.

I spent the evening knitting a scarf and watching Hallmark Christmas movies. (My husband was out at an event.) I’m a bit concerned that the combo of these movies and knitting will make the gray hairs grow in faster…. oh, and add in that I was wearing slipper socks. (Which always makes me think of the movie The Ref.)

My husband usually tells me that I’m too conservative in my spraying, but on this one he said I’ll need to be careful. It’s a powerhouse. I really noticed it lingering in our bedroom.

Winter Palace. Really liking it but wishing it lasted longer. Most perfumes last a good long time on me, but this one is “POOF!” after about 4 hours.

I will try to be kind to idiots today. I hope people that consider ME an idiot will be equally as kind to me. ?

I’m wearing Memo Marfa from the sample discovery set I got recently. This one has really captivated me. It’s deceptively simple but has a haunting quality when I wear it. I can’t pin it down, but it’s strangely dusty and conveys that sense of wide-open space you get out in far west Texas. Appropriate to Marfa, with its UFO’s, eerie lights, etc. I sense a FB or at least a travel spray in my future.

It’s been a long time since I’ve smelled LADDM, which I did not like, but I don’t think so. Marfa is up-front way more floral and I recall LADDM as having a more spice-resin-amber smell. The mystery element in Marfa sort of creeps up on you like something very dusty/sandy underneath. Marfa says it has peach but I don’t perceive it as such. It’s got tuberose and orange blossom, but I don’t find it a white floral bomb, despite that, because there’s some other things in it that mitigate that aspect and tone it way back. Try it the next time you go to N-M.

You have amazing powers of description, Calypso. I can handle OB and tuberose when they are part of the chorus and not singing solos, so I’ll definitely give Marfa a try. Thank you for the perceptive review! ?

I’m in a couple of drops of Coromandel parfum from a generous NSTer. My goodness. This is so beautiful. ?

I tried my third SSS scent yesterday, Bee’s Bliss, from a travel spray. Too sweet for me at first, but the drydown was very nice. I’ll try it again, but I think this one’s going to the swap pile. Everything was shipped securely, and as others mentioned, a handwritten note was included. The velveteen bag was a nice touch, too. ??

Waiting to hear your review of Drunk on the Moon!

Also, did anyone else hear that Oliver & Co. is going away? I got a strange email from them yesterday to this effect, made me sad. I love their M.O.U.S.E II.

LunaGrrrl, Drunk on the Moon is awfully close to its description… “A voluptuous buttery tuberose eau de Parfum with exotic spiced fruits and a velvet cream sherry base”.

If it was synthetic, it might be too much, but since it’s natural it calms, and also since it’s natural the tuberose note, while strong, doesn’t really dominate for long — it does linger, but the scent overall doesn’t scream TUBEROSE for long. I like it and it’s a good match with the Tom Waits song.

I had not heard that about Oliver & Co, but am no longer surprised when any niche brand goes under. It is a tough market.

I’m wearing Jour d’Hermes Absolu today; my dedication to Jour d’Hermes evidently is not waning, but it’s hard to keep it going on my dry-ish skin. So I got a decant of the Absolu to see how it holds up in winter. We’ve got good test conditions here; it’s been frigid for the last couple of days, and the air is pretty dry. (Note to self: go dig out small humidifier.)

So, the first few minutes of grapefruit strike me as perhaps a shade more enthusiastic than I was bargaining for, but it’s easing back beautifully.

I’ve heard it described as chewy and it’s spot on. The first hour or so, it’s dry incense notes, after a few hours, the sweetness of vanilla and labdanum emerges, the sandalwood lends a creamy and thick note throughout. I applied it at 5:30am today and at 8:00pm it’s still going strong.

    SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’eau

I was going to wear this on Friday and posting my latest acquisition of this…I still may. I had intended to wear vintage No.19 extrait but was in so much of a hurry this morning I had to grab the most convenient bottle instead!

I also received my SSS package yesterday. I got the postcard but not the velveteen bag. I like the box artwork — very refreshing! I ordered a big bottle of Bee’s Bliss and travel sprays of Champagne Du Bois and Incense Pure. I’m set for a while!

I have a plan to anonymously place a bunch of manufacturer’s samples in the Ladies Room to see if people do the same (or if they all disappear quickly)! I will report back after I do it once.

I don’t leave my scarf inside and I’ll be careful which coats I hang inside when she’s around. Or actually, I’ll use the other coat closet and if someone asks why (not that they would but just in case), I’ll say I don’t want my coat to smell perfumey.

No scent yet, though I have been a Chanel Girl so far this week: 31 RC on Monday, Gabrielle on Tuesday. Gabrielle is in my purgatory box, and I’ve decided that she’s voted off the island.

In other news, airlines are crazy. Yes, I know that’s not an original observation, but I was booking flights for a Central American vacation, and had one of those whaaaaaaat??? moments. On United’s website, the flight was $190 to my destination, and $1500 returning!!! On Travelocity, the same United flights were $190 each way. Insane. Needless to say I booked on Travelocity.

Madness, eh? $190 sounds like a good deal though…a round trip for the price of two bottles of perfume

I know! The crazy part is that it will cost us more to get from SF to Houston than from Houston to Guatemala. (Well, it would, but we’re using frequent flyer miles for US segments. Neener neener, United.)

Oh of course. $30 per bag each way. And we could have paid $160 instead of $190 if we agreed to zero carry-ons (no we will not be checking our cameras, thanks) and no seat assignment (meaning they can bump you without any recourse on your part). A pox on all of them.

Just home from walking the dogs . I went out early, before breakfast, and decided to walk around the neighbourhood for a change,to see what was flowering in gardens. It was like every second house I passed was frying bacon for breakfast and over the hour I got more and more hungry and distracted by thoughts of crispy bacon and eggs with toast and butter, tea and coffee. No such luck.
I tried the spearminty Fiele Mentha yesterday and it was pretty good, though there was something…maybe vetiver….that didn’t appeal. Nice though.
    Keep warm everyone!

Wearing Osmanthe Yunnan, from the split meet (thanks, hajusuuri!), and smelling lovely. For a Hermessence, its projection and tenacity is pretty good. Flowers and tea – such a wonderful combination.

I have samples of Chanel, thanks to hajusuuri generously sending me some, but this week I haven’t been focused enough to follow the project. However, I do have a scent on — The Different Company Osmanthus, which I’ve been obsessively collecting samples and decants, etc., of for the last couple of years or so. And a few days ago it was on sale at Luckyscent…

Somewhat related to that, I need to get back on the wagon with the no-buy. I lasted a month rather than the three months I was trying for. Black Friday sales will be coming up, even online, but with that likely exception, I think I’d like to go back on the no-buy starting on the 15th, and see if I can last a month. Maybe if I set smaller goals I’ll do better.

FragranceNet had some sort of discount — not unusual for them — and I got CSP Love of Chocolate, but with the name in French. I got a couple of travel sprays, lemons and oranges (Eau d’Hadrien and Eau d’Orange Vert), and a couple of samples. I do think those travel sprays of theirs are a good idea for when a customer doesn’t want to get 100 ml of a particular perfume.

I got a couple of travel sprays from Sephora, and the solid perfume of Vanilliary from LUSH.

Yes, I think I should be done shopping for myself soon. Very soon.

Smaller but meaningful goals are the key, says she who has given up on no-buy goals since it usually sparks more intense buying.

Scent of the evening: Chanel Jersey, thanks to a sample from hajusuuri. We do have quite the theme of hajusuuri “sharing the love” of perfumes, as I said below. :)

This is a lavender-vanilla. The 2018 Perfume Guide notes that other companies are more known for their mixes of lavender-vanilla, but that rather than their styles, “Chanel instead bookends lavender with a big backstop of metallic violet leaf and adds more jasmine. This is lavender in a Prussian dress uniform, with monocle and riding crop.” Okaaay. This is the first time I’ve been near an association with a Prussian dress uniform, with monocle and riding crop. LOL

Trying to stay cozy in Alien essence absolue. Today is my monday, but at least the snow will stop for awhile. I’m sitting in my car in the work parking lot and and a young man just came up asking for money. I don’t ever carry money, but I “know ” this kid from around the area and I gave him my hostess apple pie and berry juice I was saving for lunch. He always gives me the same story, and I’ve tried giving him area contacts, but anyway, I guess that’s my kindness for the day. I don’t know what else to do.

I heard someone recommend keeping a few $5 gift cards for McDonald’s on you for when you’re asked for money. I’ve only run into people begging in and around the train stations in Philadelphia, and I don’t go into Philadelphia very often. Anyway, stay cozy in the Alien, and good luck with that situation.

It’s been a bright sunny and COLD day today! Last night the wind chill was 13 degrees F before I headed off to bed. Both cats have spent most of today on the heat vents. Not even sunbeams in the bay window could tempt them.
