Friday scent of the day 11/1

Posted by Robin on 1 November 2019 199 Comments

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, welcome to November! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with dried fruits, if you have one.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I am copying everyone else who wore Ormonde Jayne Ta'if this week.

Reminder: 11/8 will be Art House / Stunt Perfume Friday...wear a fragrance that you find weird and wonderful but that might not be appreciated by anyone but another perfumista. Bonus points if you've ever received a spontaneous negative response or odd question and still wear it! Suggested by HemlockSillage.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I remembered the rabbits right after my alarm went off this morning! Will it bring me good luck? I hope so.
SotD is Dune, so I’m a fail for the cp but at least I smell good.?
My sniffles have turned into a full head cold. Normally I wouldn’t complain about a cold, but the timing is a real bummer. I was going to visit my gramma this weekend but now it will have to wait. As much as I want to see her, it would be selfish of me to expose her to whatever bug I’m fighting off.
Looking forward to that extra hour of sleep this weekend.

Here is a virtual cup of chai tea.
My FIL put so much ginger in it this morning I think it would cure any cold or illness. He must of been in a ginger type of mood…

I love ginger in Chai! When we go to see the bigs there is a little coffee shop on the way that has a house made chai that has ginger in it and it’s so good!

    Ciao! Rabbit x3

I had a blast yesterday with the kids for halloween but had horrible sleep because of all the sugar I ate.
The Cleopatra eyes came out so good, however, it took me 30+ minutes to do it. I guess that is why Cleopatra had servants to do hers.

I was in such a rush I grabbed a decant out of my makeup bag and it was Black Perfecto so that was my scent for Cleopatra and my SOTD today since I can still smell it. Question: Has this one been discontinued?
Its a beautiful fall crisp day, I will take anything as long as there is sun!

Hi all, My SOTD is Straight To Heaven By Killian. I finally managed to have a CP perfume!
My new employee started yesterday and we had a lovely discussion about perfume. Perhaps she is a budding perfumista? She loves drinking all varieties of tea, and prefers green teas or fruity teas, so that’s where I’m starting with making samples. I have Fleur de Rose Bulgare by Creed and Eau the Blanc by Bvlgari. :)

Oh, that’s one fluffy rabbit! Adorable!

I’m still in my spicy fruity rut with Kenzo’s Perfect Pachyderm ?

My bottle is half gone, or half full if you happen to be a delusional optimist. ?

We seem to have had two days of fall and then straight into winter with highs in the teens and 20’s for the next 10 days. A complete bust of a season and I’m so disappointed I really didn’t even get to see any real fall colors.

The count down had begun, only 12 more shifts and I can’t wait. No break or lunch the last two shifts. When you do get a lunch, you’re constantly interrupted on average 10-20 times. They need some legislation up here, because this place is ridiculous. This facility and hospital organization has definitely made my “Do Not Return” list.

Yeah, they definitely need some legislation about uninterrupted lunch breaks. There have been lawsuits over that kind of thing (ask me how I know?). I have to punch out for my lunch break and hand off my phone so that it IS uninterrupted.

I was planning on heading back to hopefully sell my house. Yeah, no phones here, they use the Vocera system. I’ve tried to keep track of the number of calls I get in a shift, and I lost count at 75. ?

Haha! HIPPA?! Never heard of it! Seriously, some of these hospitals still have multiple pt’s in the same room and INSIST nurses to bedside report. So now, you know your neighbor drinks 2L of vodka a day, is admitted for detox, is schizophrenic, the last time he or she pooped, and the results of their morning labs. When I brought this up to a manager, I was politely told: This is the way we do it. If you don’t like it, bye-bye.
            So, 13 weeks later, I went BYE-BYE ?

12 shifts = 1 month, so not as quick as you’d imagine. Plus, they pushed my start date back 2 weeks, and then expected me to push my finish date back 2 weeks to accommodate them, after I signed the original contract. Nope. Don’t want to be here in mid-December, then trek through the US to get back to Florida.
So 11 weeks instead of the usual 13, just a wee bit shorter.

I’ve been on vacation (at home) this week and have been very lazy about commenting here, but have lurked a fair amount … and remembered to rabbit, both at 4 am when I first woke, and again following a further “nap” and the realization that no more sleep would happen this morning.

Right now I’m getting a head start on next week’s CP in Ummagumma, but will switch to this week’s CP with SL Cuir Mauresque, or maybe Chergui if I can find the sample vial, later on. I finally settled on new paint colors for a couple of rooms and am midway through primering (is that a word?) my little home office. Primer is very white, isn’t it? Color to start going on later today!

Staycations are the best! Lol at primering, I think maybe it’s just called priming. Agree that it is very white, we have learned through years and 3 houses that priming is definitely the way to go. It makes the color so much richer and true when you’re finished.

Agree that staycations have a lot of advantages (less expensive, no travel, ….), and that priming (thank you for the word!) is the way to go. Sadly, I’m painting over a rather deep chocolate brown, and two coats of primer were called for … so no color for me today – my aging knees, back and shoulders can only do so much at a time. Plus, our trim is white so I didn’t have to tape before priming, but I definitely HAVE to tape before putting color on, and I want to wait until the primer is really, really dry before taping (having learned from dire experience).

Meanwhile, no Chergui for me – I keep forgetting that I have a sample of Chene, not Chergui. However, there in the spot where the sample of Chergui would have been if I had one, which I don’t (are you all following this?), was a forgotten half-sample of SL Boxeuses. How could I have forgotten about that one??? No points for me, but who cares – I smell like Boxeuses and it’s heavenly!

No points for me today. SL Cedre called my name. I love this perfume so much, that noticing my bottle is a half inch down, made me panic. Yesterday, I had my stupid tooth pulled. I had a sedative from the doctor, plus the laughing gas. Then got home and took the pain killers. I pretty much lost the whole day. I hope I didn’t say anything stupid or weird. I’m going in to work with just plain ibuprofen, but the pain is dulled now. Happy Friday everyone!

Glad the pain isn’t too bad. I thought about you yesterday and wondered how it went. I hope if you did say anything stupid or weird, nobody videotaped it and sent it to AFV, lol.

I insisted on no meds when I went into labor with my first child–that lasted exactly 22 hours, and then I had had enough. I do not recall what I was given (eventually I had an epidural and a c-section–but that is another story…) but apparently I sat up very suddenly, and with great passion announced to everyone that I was the Statute of Liberty.

Lol! I had foot surgery and was completely out. Apparently I woke up during surgery and threatened to take the OR hostage. While the anesthesiologist was telling me the story, the pain broke through and he gave me a bump of Demerol. I left very happy and tried to apply for a job at McDonalds while ordering a Big Mac at the drive through.

That is hilarious! In all seriousness I once went for a real job interview pumped up on steroids and a broken foot (long story). I tried to reschedule it, but they said no. So, I get every side effect listed for prednisone–I mean every single one (instant 15 pound weight gain, raging face rash, and manic aggression are just the tip). Anyway, I thought I was holding it together, between limping in my big black boot, tight suit, crazy make-up to cover rash, tamped down mood swings between violence and depression, you know, the usual. It took me 45 minutes to drive to the interview in San Francisco, and 45 minutes to find parking close enough for me to shuffle to the offices in my boot. The interview lasted 12 minutes. Having now conducted countless interviews myself, I wonder how horrible I must have been for them to have cut it short so quickly! Did I growl? I hope I growled.

After my epidural didn’t work with my son, I threatened to jump out the window if they didn’t give me something for the pain. After he was born, they sent in a suicide counselor. At first I laughed, but they didn’t leave. I apologized, then they left. Ugh.

Pom Noir again for me. It needs to be used up, I’m poor, and the perfume I ordered even though the rule was I had to drain 2 bottles before purchasing hasn’t got here yet. And also a sampler of 5.

Arabie, Arabie, Arabie! The queen of this category as far as I’m concerned. After luxuriating in a generous spritz this morning, the Mr. declared that he hates cloves all of a sudden. He’s going to have to just deal with it until winter ends, in May.

I can’t believe I’m the first person to report in wearing Arabie this morning! I thought everyone was planning to wear it this Friday. Yesterday afternoon while I was still wearing Camel I decided to do a side-by-side comparison. Interestingly, when stacked against Camel, Arabie did NOT smell sweet. It smelled much more buttery and resinous. Still very gourmand and spicy, but I don’t get what some people comment on, notes of curry or liquorice. It’s pretty potent. I do really like that plump Chinese rabbit, Robin, though it also looks rather like a sweet little lamb!

NST peeps are smelling great today.

I put on some more Fresh Cream this morning. I had forgotten that I had this, but then suddenly remembered and spritzed some on after last night’s shower, hoping it would ease this strange, vague discontent I’ve been feeling for the perfumes I have on hand, combined with my longing for something comforting. Fresh Cream isn’t quite the right answer, but it isn’t getting on my nerves, either, so that’s good. Guess it’s time to practice radical acceptance of the situation and just get on with things…

A couple of rabbit books I’ve enjoyed lately: Bunny Boy and Me by Nancy Laracy, and The Rabbit Effect by Kelli Harding.

    Happy Friday!

I’m sampling Hendley’s Mown, which purportedly has a dried fruit note. I’ll be generous and say maybe it does. I don’t actually *like* dried fruit as a food, so maybe I don’t like it in perfume? Anyway, I wanted something golden to match the fall foliage which is at its peak in my neck of the woods, and I thought of hay. I’m not getting much of that from Mown either.

Perhaps a reeking havoc episode is in order?

I wore AALavande Velours for the calming effect. I have thought that LV smells kind of chewy, like an herbal/floral fruit roll.

In remnants of Straight to Heaven.

Question for ladies and gentlemen. I contacted the seller of the fake perfume I bought off Ebay. The one that burned me. The response was they have certificates and for me to send it back, then, she would refund me.

So. I send back a fake that burned and caused a painful rash, only to be resold to someone else. No thanks.

What recourse do people have, besides feedback? Is there a place where people list good sellers?

Dying to share sellers name. ?

I didn’t realize that if the seller offers it back that Ebay wouldn’t do something. This seller must have known. I received a message from them moments after the purchase asking me to contact them, not Ebay if there were problems.

You can put in a claim or complaint w/ Ebay, but since the seller is offering a refund upon return, probably not much will be done on eBay’s end. I think it takes a lot to get thrown off of eBay and if you read negative feedback for perfume sellers, “fake” is probably the #1 complaint (though there are shady buyers as well- I know some people here reported they had sales claimed as fake).
I also think buying perfumes on eBay is a “buyer beware” situation, especially with brands that are prone to counterfeiting like Chanel, Creed, Tom Ford, etc.
I do check feedback and negative comments when I consider buying from someone with <100% rating so leaving feedback does help steer buyers somewhat.

Fragrantica lists “fruity notes” but combined with the spices I get a dried fruit vibe in Nicolai Sacrebleu Intense. One of my favorite Nicolais. Hoping it gives me the illusion of warmth for tonight’s playoff football game – kickoff temperature 38 degrees, dropping from there. Yes, that is one seriously gorgeous scent. I wore it earlier this week. Like you, I was eyeing my bottle to check how much was left.

Couldn’t find my bottle of Arabie at the moment. I think that I will organize that box. My aunt basically just threw everything in there with no regard. She still doesn’t get that half of what I have costs $125 and up. Spending the day in Frapin 1270.

I have them all but they are just jumbled in a plastic storage bin but it’s at funny angle in my closet.

A sweet and warm scent was perfect for today’s early morning temps in the 20’s after yesterday’s Halloween snowstorm brought nearly 4” of snow amidst howling winds. I’m a person who enjoys winter but this was too much even for me! SOTD is JCB Fleurs d’Ombré Ombré Bleue, which has long been a favorite of mine for its warm honey note. Fragrantica tells me it also has a dried fruit note, so it’s perfect for today’s cp as well.

Wishing everyone -and their pets – who are under the weather – whether that’s literally the scary winds and wildfires on the west coast, yesterday’s heavy storms on the east coast, and the ice and snow here in the Midwest, – or you’re just not feeling well, a better weekend ahead, with at least a peek or two of sunshine to brighten your day.

Meant to check in this morning but got really busy at work soon after I got in. I’m in Volutes EDP for CP points and because its one of my go-to favorites lately. I’ve heard people say the EDP doesn’t last very long or have a lot of oomph, but man my older decant lasts forever on me. I will be buying a bottle after I finish my decant, and I hope I like it from the bottle as much as I have from the decant.

Twins!!! I smell dried fruits but Fragrantica does not list it as a note. What does Fragrantica know anyway??

Ha, well apparently I was looking at the Fragrantica page for the EDT! I agree though that I smell dried fruits in it too.

I’m wearing L’Air du Temps (modern new bottle of Edt, and I bought Pdt and parfum after a couple of days going crazy about EdT – I want everything smelling like that!) :D
And it breaks my heart to read reviews of perfume community about it being a thin shadow of itself compared to the original vintage formula
I think it is magical just the way it is today
    What do I know? :D
    The bottle is great too!
Waiting to see if they ever make this black crystal thing again with the doves =)

Finally settling down next to the fireplace wearing Frapin 1270. It has been a long, frustrating day dealing with the after effects of last night’s windstorm. I think I’ll take a cue from the Frapin and have a sip of cognac, too.

    ???!

Late again today! Still playing catch up with chores.

SOTD = TM Womanity Les Parfums de Cuir, from the sample stash. I’m getting both fresh and dried figs in this one, in addition to the leather.

    SOTD = Diptyque Volutes EDP

Yesterday, I accidentally wore Volutes EDT, which has a dried fruit note. Since the EDP is sweeter and fruitier, I decided to wear it today for the CP. To my surprise, Fragrantica does not list dried fruits as a note in the EDP entry! ? Whatever. For all intents and purposes, there’s dried fruit and I get credit. Okay? Okay! ?

I’ll be sending out Splitmeet payment info tonight. I will try to get the answer to the Hermes question tomorrow. I guess if you’re Hermes, you can close the store at 6PM on a Friday!

In other news, I left the office at 4 this afternoon and stopped by the Bryant Park holiday shops. Mostly the same vendors were there but then again, I only perused half the stores before I had to leave to catch my train. Olfactory NYC was there and one can customize a perfume using one of 9 base perfumes. I got a 10mL travel spray of “Dylan”; unfortunately, the travel sprays are not customizable, but of course I can simply layer to achieve a similar effect! I’ll be revisiting at some point to see if there’s a combo that is different enough from what I have in my collection to be worth buying.

Sotd = 34 boulevard Saint Germain

I love the spices in this one, it reminds me of dried fruit compote, though no dried fruit notes listed for the scent.

Imagine how delicious we would smell if we could all be in the same place together!

Hope everyone had a fantastic Friday. Weekend, watch out because here! I! come! :D

I was commando for most of the day. Went for lunch and some shopping with a work friend. We had a great day!

We stopped him at Sephora so I could get a brush cleanser, but they don’t carry that particular product. In the meanwhile, I tested Dior Joy on one hand and the new Gucci on the other. I didn’t keep track of what was sprayed where, but sadly, it’s a big fail. Right now the musk from one of them has morphed into the dreaded bleach scent on my skin. Blergh! But money saved.

    Happy Friday everyone.

Wasn’t able to post earlier… strange.

Put on a bit of Zen Classic a few hours ago — and maybe it’s just the power of suggestion — but this felt soothing to me. :)
