Tuesday scent of the day 10/29

Posted by Robin on 29 October 2019 188 Comments

It's Tuesday and National Cat Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: taking a point with the dried apricot in L'Artisan Parfumeur Havana Vanille. Tea at the moment is a free sample from Upton, Zhen Shan Xiao Zhong Congou. That probably sounds more exciting than it is.

Reminder: on 11/1, wear a fragrance with dried fruits, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Dias de los Muertos Porcelain Lucky Cat Sugar Skull Teapot ("The Dias de los Muertos Lucky Cat Sugar Skull teapot is one of the coolest teapots out there! The front of the teapot has the skull face in purple and black of a smiling cat. The back of the teapot is sculpted to look like fur") is $25 at The Good Cat Company.

I’m not typically a fan of florals, but this is a true beauty that I find quite comforting and elegant without the cool reserve of No. 19. I get white flowers (no one flower in particular) over a delicate incense base of benzoin and opoponax.
For me, it’s a perfect bed time scent, especially in the winter time. It has relatively nice staying power, I still have a light dusting of powder and tonka the next morning.

Me too, I like the newer version, the vintage No. 22 is more incense and quiet, the newer EDT has a champagne-like quality, sparkly and effervescent.

I don’t see it, to my nose, joy is all about the roses/jasmine and a powder/civet dry down.
On my skin, No. 22 is white florals over incense, very meditative in feel.

The weatherman predicted it, and even though I refused to believe it, I woke up to a layer of the white stuff covering everything.❄️ It’s the heavy wet kind that hangs in the tree branches and now that the sun is out, it looks so beautiful….I just wish it had waited a month, or two, lol.

Broke the “no-buy” this morning by ordering travel-sized perfumes directly from The Different Company. I had the website up in the English language version, but then got knocked offline for a bit. When I resumed, it was all in French, but I could read that well enough to continue. It’s amazing what comes back.

When someone linked to the Tauer website a few months ago, I could figure out the comments that were in German. I haven’t formally studied German, but informally picked some up, and English and German have a number of cognates.

Adorable teapot! I do coffee in the morning and tea later in the day so no tea for me right now, but I made a discovery over the weekend – Whiskey Cinnamon Snap from a local store, Summit Spice + Tea Company. Aged in whiskey barrels so you get a rich boozy flavor without the alcohol. Good to keep warm with on weeknights.

To all the kitties I’ve known and loved! ? Also, that is the best teapot yet because is is a multitasker- fits cat day, Halloween, and best of all, it fits my budget! If I were a tea drinker and lived in a non-mobile dwelling, is snatch it up.

SOTD is SL Arabie, which I got in a swap moons ago. Hardly wear it because I’m not fond of it. I thought I’d give it another try as so many mentioned it here for this weeks CP, but nope, still not fond of it. ?

I finished the 3 book prologue to the Kevin Kearney mysteries and thoroughly enjoyed all three. The new word I learned while reading was “remuda,” which I’m surprised I didn’t know, as much as I loved and read about horses as a youngster.

Cheers, smell well, and stay safe NSTers!

Yes, there’s a quite strong coconut element to it. In fact I began to feel a little overwhelmed by it so sprayed on a layer of Tam Dao to up the sandalwood factor, and now I’m happier with the whole combination.

I think I didn’t want too much coconut because I cooked a light Thai tofu curry last night using coconut milk, and it reminded me too much of my dinner (of which I’ll be partaking the leftovers tonight!).

Ah yes! yes you did! Sorry ? but I smelt so many samples last years….
To my memory it was mostly a gorgeous dark patchouli. Funny how it did not really register as fruity.

I think I still have some left… Next time I wear it, i will pay attention to the fruit ?

SOTD: Ormond Jayne’s Ta’if,- roses and sweet dates. I think I have 3 perfumes with dried fruits in, just respritzed with Tobacco Vanille, I do love this comfort in a bottle, even tho it smells like a delicious candle.
Perfume with dried fruit in to repurchase: Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant!- another candley one, now I come to think of it..

Le Cri de la Lumiere for a misty Tuesday.
Adding my love for the teapot because cats+Day of the Dead is a win. A friend invited me to travel with her to Oaxaca for DotD this year which was a tempting proposal, but decided that as much as I love her, I couldn’t travel with her. Plus I thought maybe it’d end up being more touristy than I’d want. Anyone ever been? Curious…

After the debacle with my sister’s co-worker, I have decided that I will never travel with friends unless they have their own room and they would be ok being left alone at times because I will skip doing things I don’t like or don’t enjoy (it’s my vacation too).and I din’t have to pretend to please anyone.

The house smells of wet dogs and damp washing as it has been raining off and on every day for ages…heavy down pours and hail, then clears, then rains, then clears, then rains…then rains again. The lilac trees are in full bloom now. There is one down the road growing in a gap between a corrugated iron shed and a corrugated iron garage … A burst of violet in the grey. Al Oudh today.

Well I don’t think it is a listed note, but that is what it smells like to me, very early on. Given that no perfume has “real” dried fruit in it, I think that’s a point for the cp. Anybody who wants to challenge me on that is welcome!

If there is any interest in a split of Ormonde Jayne Woman edp, I’ll add it to the Split Meet. I bought a bottle at Arielle Shoshana when Linda Pilkington made an in-store appearance back in September, and haven’t opened it yet. I could split up to 30 ml, in 5 and 10 ml increments.

Sampling Dates Delight from House of Oud which started off with a pretty true date note but now smells like cinnamon and powdered sugar. (I amp cinnamon) I am hungry

Last night I was looking for a hotel near my in-laws for Christmas break since spending more than 2nights at his parents’ place tends to drive my husband crazy. Found an incredible bed and breakfast that is totally farm to table, and we’ll have a cottage with a private hot tub plus we added in the Sat night 3 course dinner. It seems that it’s also in the same Texas small town as my in-laws. Expensive but it looks so worth it

Welp I obviously suck at being a perfumista these days. Well, I mean, I wear it, I just forget to check in with my friends in this wonderful community! Yesterday I wore Santa’s Majescule (lovely!) and today an in Tea for Two (also lovely).

We closed on our house and are no longer in the hotel- yay! I always thought I’d like to live that hotel life for a while but as it turns out, I do not care for it haha. So we got into our house this weekend. Our furniture doesn’t get delivered from storage until Friday, however, so we are basically camping but at least we are out of the hotel.

In the meantime, we are getting some work done on it- painting and updating fixtures and bathrooms and such- while it is empty. It’s looking great!

I have another interview tomorrow. Haven’t heard back from the one last week but that’s not a surprise. These huge companies I’m interviewing with have terribly slow HR hiring processes. I’m okay with it though because it’s giving me some time to work on the house and such.

Miss you all! You all smell super wonderful as usual!
